ok heres how i split up the dnp eras (loosely based on dan's timeline in his interview w anthony)

ALSO. they were NOT A DOUBLE ACT AND NOT GAY 🙄. it could also be called the No Homo era lmao idk this is when a lot of shitty things were happening wrt leaked information, harassment of their families, and just generally becoming more in the spotlight especially while still in the closet being a horrible experience. but also, they moved to london and got cool opportunities with radio stuff and were starting to actually make a living on this shit.

2014-2016: Peak Dan And Phil™ Era. at the height of their popularity. they realized oh shit, we ARE a double act and not only does everyone enjoy us best as a double act, WE enjoy working together. tabinof, tatinof, dapgo, still doing the radio every month up until they start touring, 7 second challenge app, gamingmas, what the hell DIDNT they do during this time period (what they didnt do was uhh take care of themselves and not overwork and not blur their work and personal lives so much to the point where they felt like the whole apartment was a film set.)

2017-2018: Gay Softlaunch Era (aka post-baking aka glass closet) the baby steps toward authenticity, moved to the double apartment to separate work and life, ii's whole theme, dan talking abt depression, phil getting the quiff, both of them being gay as hell in every way other than saying it explicitly. important things of note: TRUTH BOMBS dropped, Interactive Introverts happened, still uploading gaming vids and honestly by the end you could feel their fatigue. and then they hiatused dapg.

2019-2022: ok these four years each feel like whole eras in themselves, but also theres an overarching theme. THE GAY ERA.

2019: im gonna futher split this year in half. first half- dad left to buy milk so other dad is taking care of us. rough six months for dannies im sure. important phil thing of note- he changed his film set from his "bedroom" to a fairly basic but cute shelf backdrop. honestly prob didnt wanna keep pretending that was his bedroom considering.... second half- DAN AND PHIL GAY. dan uploads his magnum opus. phil comes out via tweet. they go to japan and its really gay and it's The Trip to japan for them like yes they first went in 2015 and again in 2023, but Japhan 2.0 Was The One. what does this mean? proposal? anniversary? idk exactly but it was gay as hell dude and theyve talked about that trip with such love in their hearts.

2020: Phandemic (sorry that was bad) but also where tf is dan again? even with the big C-word happening, it was business as usual for phil, regular vids but make em gayer, caught a pigeon nbd, and end of the year introduces the Stereo app show Phil and Phriends where he's had chats with pj, louise, his brother, seth everman?????, and finally. dan reappears. they reveal that they bought and FULLY PLANNED a house together and are ready to move!

2021: they don't move house for another like six months! basically their house was (and is??) still being worked on AND they were in lockdown AND turns out at the end of last year, they were kicked from their Life apartment and were now living in the Work apartment so you can imagine what all of this can do to their psyche and lowkey they were getting sick of each other like it wasnt just bordering on phivorce it was nearly Phurder. Phidow. but to fill the time so that DOESNT happen, my favorite fucking thing ever happens: Lockdown Lads (and all the other names). the first taste of what a dnp podcast would sound like, with the added bonus of chaotic listener interaction. oh yeah also dan wrote a mental health guide book whatever (IM KIDDING I REALLY LIKE YWGTTN I WROTE LIKE TWO REVIEWS ON IT NOW) and they finally become Homosexual Homeowners. theres quite a bit more dnp content this year, dan being on phils channel a bit more, the phodcasts, dan's gay and not proud special.... oh yeah and hometown showdown i guess AND TEXT VIDEO 2!!! my favorite and my namesake!!!!!!!

2022: Prophecy Year..... but they didnt get married. dan returns with another longass video to say: hey i hate being a youtuber and also youtube majorly fucked me over. but also fuck that im gonna do a weird talk show and ALSO GO ON TOUR WITH THIS APOCALYPSE THEME! phil actually... slows down this year. more dan uploads than phil somehow??? but also Dan Is Leaving me is posted and i go completely insane and become the deranged individual you see today. WHICH FINALLY LEADS US TOOOOOO

2023-present: The Unhinged Era. dan's tour was a huge Emotional success for him but uh not without its hiccups due to management and all that and i think he and phil finally realize. Fuck It Who Cares. dan flies back to england FROM AUSTRALIA to make sure he can be with his future ex-husband on his birthday. CAKE HEART EMOJI. YELLOW PLAID SHACKET. they go on a gamer date and post a picture of playing footsies in a cab. THE PHUDE HAPPENS. they go to japan again and while this one will never be The One it was still a well earned holiday this time with bryony! and they took a bunch of very cute film camera pictures.... yn's current board! the nose of their old deck got badly chipped after it hit kuroo's head and flew into the corner of some wall, and it wasn't worth it to try fixing it so they bought a basic black deck, yanked the aux cord from suna, and went ham with the board. they were really nervous about if they were going to fuck up the thermal hands or not, but obv it turned out fine. suna wrote the "overthinking will fucking kill you" text on the nose of the new board and ended up totally shredding the posca marker he used for it

suna's board is pretty old in comparison to everyone else's – he snaps the least amount of decks (but to be fair, everyone can only afford cheap ones at this time). red is his favorite color so yn has made sure to incorporate it into all his decks that they get their hands on. they also wrote his name on the grip tape (ignore how it doesnt actually say suna) for funsies since they wanted to practice a new font

wanted a domo board SO bad after he and samu went home for a weekend and helped their dad clean out the garage. he found his and samu's old domo hats and could not stop thinking about a domo board. his board at the time was fine and everything too but once he was back in tokyo he bought a pink board (the brown one looked too much like shit bc he stared at it too hard) and presented the idea to yn ...... obv they said yes. they threw in the poser text on his grip tape for funsies lolol they wanted to try out the thrasher fire font

no grip tape paint for samu bc yn was practicing the spider web grip tape cut out on his board. usually yn paints on grip tape but mattsun was commissioning yn at the time and sent them a vid of some guy doing web grip tape on a board. yn figured it was easy enough but they still wanted to use samu's new deck as a guinea pig. he was fine with it and to make up for possibly messing it up, yn brainstormed something extra cool to paint on his deck. samu is considering displaying this one since this one is extra cool

noya snapped his last deck clean in half from skating on rails lmfao. he and yn watched spirited away the night it happened so that's where the no face on the nose comes from. he goes through the most decks out of everyone bc he's always attempting some crazy ass rail trick. coincidentally he works the most shifts at ace since he's gotta pay for these decks somehow

kuroo has accumulated two boards so far: his first one that yn picked out at ace (shown above) and the one that yn made for him at community day. he's not planning on skating with the second one for preservation reasons. after finding out that yn designs decks though, he asked if they could customize his somehow, so they doodled gir (in disguise) from invader zim, one of kuroo's favorite tv shows as a kid.

ukai doesn't skate as often anymore, but sometimes, if he's at ace, he'll join a sesh right after ace closes for the day. yn designed this board for his birthday last year, and he usually keeps it on display in the shop since it's one of yn's best works. it was definitely a process for them to make and took a lot of experimentation, but it paid off and is one of their best performing decks on their socials

I'd never even heard them mentioned?? and okay the answer to that could be 'well they happened in 2004', but they don't even come up that much in discussion of old races!! they're all bangers, they're all DIFFERENT bangers, a real range of flavour that all heavily feature the same two title protagonists. they change the championship picture completely in a way where okay with the benefit of hindsight you can go 'oh ho ho valentino was always going to win that title' - well no he wasn't! valentino showed up in mugello with the wooden medal helmet for a reason! it was his first yamaha season and after that initial welkom high, he did look like he was in trouble! and you get those races to completely change the tone of the title fight?? not crashes, not just dumb mistakes, a direct contest! individually all three of those races would be a decent shout for best or second best race in a lot of seasons, let's be honest. as back-to-back-to-back races, the only trio of races that is even in the same DIMENSION this century are austria/silverstone/misano 2019 - which is undoubtedly a great shout too in all being bangers and having a sort of mini storyline arc with a fantastic conclusion, but it does feature different protagonists and also has less than zero championship implications. plus the biggest interpersonal relationship story we got out of that trio involved a rider who literally wasn't even involved in any of those duels, which is objectively pretty funny and speaks to the lasting power of that particular feud - BUT!! it's not quite the same thing as the 2004 trio

genuinely valentino is so lucky biaggi showed up at welkom to do the dramatic duel with him so that's the crowning achievement everyone remembers from the yamaha switch. like the way the pr works is that - well, people vaguely remember biaggi being the big rival for valentino at some point in his early years and valentino beat him at welkom for his first yamaha win so that might as well be the only important race of that season?? which. the biaggi thing ALREADY wasn't the main rivalry at the start of 2004!! valentino's getting away with a massive act of historical revisionism through dumb coincidence!! literally you can make the argument that this is the only real one-on-one race duel biaggi and valentino EVER have, it's not their only memorable battle (suzuka + phillip island 2001 obviously) but it is the only one in that category of race-long one-on-one! and it just HAPPENED to fall exactly then, which is obviously extremely valentino because he loves having everything work out that way for narrative reasons. but it's also super convenient! by the evidence of the entire 2003-05 period, it is so so so much more likely that duel happens with sete! it'd be unfair to call it a biaggi cameo appearance since he was still a serious factor until honda promoted him to their factory team in 2005 (I have many unanswered questions about what on earth honda was doing with their line up for much of the early noughties) and finished p3 in the standings in both 2003 as 2004, plus there was a time in 2004 where biaggi was super close to the championship lead after... uh. rio? actually no I double checked, after sachsenring he was a point off valentino. point being, biaggi was absolutely a factor but not really in terms of on-track battles!! the actual duels were happening almost entirely between valentino and sete, with ONE exception. of course valentino gets to say his favourite career win was against biaggi. twat

- Time Stand Still is best music video and anyone who disagrees is being a grinch!

- Our favorite album is Roll the Bones and our favorite Live CD is A Show of Hands! I think Rush in Rio and Permanent Waves are the *best* though!

- They should just release the Different Stages live recording. It's pretty much out there as extra features on the other DVDs!

- The Clockwork Angels book and graphic novel are pretty average but are worth it for making Seven Cities of Gold not suck. The worst song is the best chapter of the novel

- I would buy a Blu-Ray that is just the backing videos for the live videos and I hate that the only backing vid that exists in full form is By-Tor from Rush in Rio (as an Easter Egg)

- Emotion Detector is the most underrated Rush song and I would have preferred Tom Sawyer or YYZ not get played in one of the tours to accommodate it in a concert! Only 44 songs have never been played live before and of them the only one that I think deserved to be played more is Vapor Trail because it is the ONLY title song of an album never played live (after Presto was pulled out for Time Machine)

- It is pronounced Why-Why-Zed. It is spelt Vapor Trails. The American spelling of Vapor is essential to the song's message

- Analog Kid is Alex's best song, Ghost of a Chance and Between The Wheels are second and third-- though live versions of Working Man are up there

- Geddy's solo at the end of Leave That Thing Alone (Time Machine Tour) is the exact peak of Rush, that was their highest point as a band!

- SARS Fest concert kinda sucked? Spirit of Radio with Paint It Black intro was amazing but the equipment was shot and they gave Alex a hot microphone. They also cut off the "encore" which just sucked. I am also a little salty that Rush were an opening band for the Stones *in Canada*.

- Tom Sawyer is overrated and they're not even Peart lyrics. Limelight and YYZ off of the same album are better.

- Neil's Ayn Rand period is a valid part of Rush history and provides so much extra context to The Garden. The same pen that wrote "begging hands and bleeding hearts will only cry out for more" ended his life with "the measure of a life is a measure of love and respect, the way you live and the gifts that you give, in the fullness of time it's the only return you can expect" - a man with a storied life as Neil with as much tragedy as he endured ended with him completely giving and loving in his heart when 35-40 years prior he wrote empathetically that "you don't get something for nothing"

- La Villa Strangiato is in my opinion not just the best instrumental but it is in contention for best Rush song period. I would never give it that title because it lacks Peart's lyrics and I find that people who say that have an irrational dislike of Geddy's voice... but it's still a valid take. Natural Science would get my all around best song badge. But best and favorite are not the same in my world and even still I mean *technically proficient* mixed with lyrics. I'll change my mind, likely. But that's my feeling right now.

- Geddy didn't get vocal training until before My Favorite Headache (2000) and Neil didn't get jazz drumming instruction until Burning For Buddy (1994). Both artists were just fine as they were but they perfected their arts and I prefer late era Rush because of that. The band never stopped evolving.

- I would have liked to have heard one of the solo album songs live (I Am The Spirit, Promise or My Favorite Headache) or have Bob and Doug do Take Off for a charity event like the South Park or Hawkings concerts last year. I *still* want that. Neil wasn't involved in the solo albums. It could still happen.

- I want a Jukebox Musical of Rush music so that The Body Electric isn't the only piece of fiction scored to Rush.

- Alex Lifeson could have been a comedian. He's one of the funniest humans on the planet.

- Peaceable Kingdom is better for having been the only song where lyrics were written after the music. Vapor Trail has amazing lyrics in general but I feel the limitation had positive impact and I wish Neil and the band did this practice more than once.

- Rush's improvised and last minute songs when they are running out of studio time are the best. Malignant Narcissism was the result of the album director seeing Geddy warming up with a vintage fretless bass and said "put that on the album" so they composed around the improvised riff, Force Ten was literally a last minute addition to Hold Your Fire. La Villa is said to have been recorded in a single take (I do not believe that legend as it wasn't in any of the biographies I have read). Rush just work best with limitations. They're a bunch of goofs and giving them a time limit makes them go into a Saitama style serious mode.

Had another divorce hearing this morning (at this point, 3+ years into the damn process, I've had close to 20 hearings… which is just… yeah.)

I now need to work on finding a pro bono lawyer that's gonna help with the last (hopefully) bit of this cursed divorce… I'm not looking forward to that process because I have very little hope I'll find someone good. Not with the luck I've had.

However, it's a different judge than the one that was seemingly empathetic to the ex. It's also the one who will be making the final decision, which is set for September 6th. I have until mid August to file the last papers so there's still a few months of pro bono lawyer searching… Blegh.

The worst part about today was having to listen to other cases (as you do for these goddamn hearings). There was one that triggered me deeply and it made me angry that that person was verbal vomiting and being selfish. I know more than anyone else how frustrating it is but I also think it's selfish to subject other people to your traumas because YOU need to be heard, over what the judge was saying as well (that this is not the time and place).

So yeah. I'll be decompressing the rest of the day and doing nothing because, as usual, it was stupidly stressful.

Now it would start with Brooke noticing Jeremy for the first time pre-canon (freshman year, gonna rb the vid i have of this later) and being like huh. He's kinda cute ngl. She doesn't really do anything about it bc Jeremy is never Not with Michael and Chloe usually takes her attention away anyway, so the most she really does is look on from afar throughout the years.

She doesn't think a whole lot of him. She doesn't even know him beyond fleeting glances from across hallways and classrooms. He's really just That One Kid She Recognizes. She accepts that they'll never really cross paths until she meets him at the mall for BMC Pt. 1 and.. hey, he's actually talking to her and not Chloe.. that's really cool..

We get our getting together via eminems death stuff, a look into what they looked like as a couple pre-halloween, and it seems like everything's going great! Chloe seems kinda pissy, but that's probably because of Jake dating Christine, and Jeremy hasn't really been sparing Chloe any second glances. It looks like Brooke's love life is finally looking up! Someone actually likes her for her and not for her best friend!

...but it couldn't last. Of course it couldn't.

Naturally she figures out later that Jeremy didn't actually sleep with Chloe, but she also remembers enough flashes of The Play (and gathers from the brief moment when all the squips were linked) to know that Jeremy actually had eyes for Christine. Not Chloe, so, small victory there, but not exactly better.

Whether jeremy and christine actually get together isnt the point, but Jeremy and Brooke do eventually talk about their relationship, and if anything about it was actually real. Any little speck. Brooke has done all this thinking about Jeremy, but did Jeremy ever think of her? Even if he had other romantic interests in mind, did he think of her at all?

Jeremy didn't have a bad time dating her. The only thing he really regretted was that it wasn't genuine. It wasn't what Brooke deserved. He apologizes, because of course he does, and wishes that he could give her the relationship she actually deserves. But he can't. It wasn't the real me. There's someone else. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry for giving you the best thing that wasn't real.

And it hurts. It hurts a lot. But in a way, it's a little comforting that Jeremy is thinking about her and her happiness. He can't give her what she wants, but he still wants her to have it. Wishes for her to have the real version of what he was mechanically told to give her. She still has his friendship, and that's almost as good.

Summer months here we go! Just wrapped up my time with Zelda so I foresee more reading and tv in my future again. In the meantime, here’s how I spent June!

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023) Saw it twice and the first time was very nearly too much to take in. The second viewing was far less overwhelming and still a joy. While it didn’t feel like a complete story following Miles, at least there’s some satisfying conclusion with Gwen. I’m glad part 2 comes out in less than a year. 

Ali Wong: Baby Cobra (2016) Maybe I wasn’t in the right mood or maybe going with one of her older specials wasn’t the right call but I wasn’t really feeling it. I can see hints of overlapping themes that pop up in BEEF (which I loved and why I wanted to watch one of her specials) but that was more interesting than it was funny. Still gonna check out her other specials.

Goldeneye (1995) I have more memories playing the game than watching the movie but still a big fan of this flick. Really great characters and locales and I forgot just how comedic it is. So many one-liners! Always feels a little long at the end but worth it to see Boris’ death scene.

Encanto (2021) Late to seeing this and really great! Beautiful and personal and peak musical songs where characters basically ONLY share their personality through song.

Ted Lasso (Episode 3.11 to 3.12) I was really dragging my feet about finishing the series as I found season 3 wasn’t as consistently enjoyable to watch. But those last two eps really stuck the landing. Some beats were expected, some were welcome surprises, and there were so many callbacks that were naturally woven in that I was really impressed. Some of the best from the season (and on par with the rest of the series) and I’m really glad I finished it.

Bullshit Jobs by David Graeber (Page 7 of 285) Clearly I’ve only just started this (thanks to me dragging my feet on The Righteous Mind) but really excited to dig deeper. The prologue is the original essay that inspired the book and that alone already has so much in it! A really great primer and I wasn’t expecting it to lay a lot of the blame at capitalism’s feet so I think it’s gonna be a great read. 

The Righteous Mind: Why Good People are Divided by Politics and Religion by Jonathan Haidt (Complete) The first time I read this (at a time when the COVID-19 vaccine was just coming out and folks were choosing not to get it) the book really helped me understand the reasoning behind other people’s choices. For that it was really helpful. This time around, with more time and more political moves behind us, I find it glaringly obvious just how out of touch (or conservative-leaning) this book is. There’s a whole section about how the free market and capitalism is good for healthcare. Wild stuff. If you want more in-depth reviews explaining why this didn’t sit right with me this time around, I found Storygraph had a lot of great write-ups (also Storygraph is great if you want an alternative to the amazon-owned Goodreads).

Delicious in Dungeon Vol. 12 by Ryoko Kui (Complete) Listen I sing this series’ praises every time I read a volume and this is no different. Somehow the story, setting, and characters grow while still remaining connected to the main theme of “what if we ate the monsters we fought in an RPG?” It’s truly top-tier and I can’t stress enough that if you like charming, funny, expertly-illustrated comics, you should try out this series.

The Fade Out by Ed Brubaker, Sean Phillips, and Elizabeth Dismang (Complete) Really fun read. Old Hollywood murder mystery with a lot of really nuanced characters. The resolution felt a little abrupt and unsatisfying, but without giving anything away I think it was appropriate. I’m also not sure if it was a stylistic choice but all of the women have different shadows than the men. It feels like they’re living in two different worlds but maybe that’s intentional? Still really great.

PetroDragonic Apocalypse; or, Dawn of Eternal Night: An Annihilation of Planet Earth and the Beginning of Merciless Damnation by King Gizzard (2023) Loved King Giz’s first foray into metal and this continues that trend. I may not love everything that they do, but I love that they do everything that they do.

Oz: A Fantasy Role-Playing Setting (Andrews McMeel Publishing) The Tuesday Crew is currently up against a young dragon (Dragonette) plaguing a mine (recap HERE) while the Mof1 Crew is divided across Munchkin District and each dealing with their own small crisis. They say never split the party but I think the trouble gets way more interesting when you do.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (Nintendo) Finally moving on from this after countless hours spent in this world and it’s all bittersweet. Loved the familiar stuff, loved the new stuff, and loved the overall arc of the game. Hopefully the next game in the series goes back to something smaller and focused.

1. how long have you been watching smosh? WELL i do have very fond memories of watching the boys with my brother back in maybe 2011? 2012? maybe later idk. i specifically remember the pokémon vids, man-spider, the paranormal easy bake oven, and this one where the entire time you thought that he (i cannot remember who. i think anthony) got his dick stuck in a port-o-potty’s door, and he’s like stuck there for days, and the whole time you think it’s his dick that’s stuck, only for it to be revealed at the end that it was the burger that he brought in with him. THAT got stuck in the door 😭 idk why that one lives in my head so prominently, but it’s so stupid LMAO. anyway… then i started watching pewdiepie and eventually got more into shows on netflix (superwholock nation😐✊) than youtube. THEN in like 2019, my brother rediscovered smosh by way of try not to laugh. and showed them to me. and for a couple years that’s ALL i watched. like legitimately just checked smosh (pit) once every two weeks and watched it, then carried on. i loved it and them but i still didn’t have the desire to check out any other stuff lmao. and THENNNNN at the beginning of 2023, i just very randomly decided, in my boredom and unemployment, to check out their other stuff. and boyyyyy did i get hooked. and i’ve been watching everything ever since. so, very long-winded way of saying i’ve known about them for over ten years, but i’ve been DEDICATED to watching ALL of them for about a year and a half :)

She ends with Cut to the Feeling, one of the most joyous songs ever made! I am on a happiness high! Nothing can ruin my night!

And then I am sitting at the bus stop and I check tik tok and realize it was a full song! A full song about a long-distance relationship! And I start SOBBING!!!! Because guess what? That song is SAD!

So I go from absolutely forgetting every bad thing that had ever happened to me to full-on crying about a failed relationship I was still not over!!! In the middle of 5th Avenue, no less!!!!

Idk if you've heard the full thing, but it is DEPRESSING! It's basically the opposite of Francesca (or the "I'd do it all over again" motif) ! He literally sings "And there are some people, love, who are better unknown" like??? Imagine thinking you're better off never someone than knowing them at all! (which, I know is my interpretation, and I can very much be wrong but that's what it's giving to me!) I can imagine! I was still in that mindset! Especially since this one was about a long-distance relationship! It hit me too fucking hard!!! I have literally ignored every live performance I've come across of it on social media since because it makes me absolutely sob!!! I wish I was joking!

Anyway, a hilarious bookend to this: the day he announced in that Instagram Q&A the date Unknown was officially being released? Guess who I was seeing in concert that night? That's right! Carly Rae FUCKING Jepsen!!!!! *Insert the "If I had a nickel" meme here*

But (I am sorry for repeating "But"... BUT!) he also confirmed it's from circle 9, which is treachery! Which... well I am not defining a successful relationship as treachery, I'm sorry! Judas is in that circle! And I did too many years in Catholic school to know what that guy fucking did!

Anyway, unlike me and my ex (and whoever the fuck Hoz is singing about, may they have their peace and never have to hear this one randomly in a store or some shit), Andrew and Lovely are definitely on better terms in my mind and are absolutely thriving <3 As I said before, love those crazy kids! They're in their own universe probably looking at rings as we speak! Or face-timing since he's out on the road! Good for them!

This is also not an insult to long-distance relationships in general. I loved that shit. It was wonderful! The guy, though? He sucks! And I am still doing some reflecting on that (which I am sure will continue once I force myself to listen to Unknown in a non tik tok way!)

this is kinda funny to me but it’s ironic how the digital devil saga duology is often considered the forgotten atlus rpg by video titles and thumbnails and yet i still see it talked about significantly more than any of the other more niche megaten titles.

is dds underrated? yes in comparison to a lot of jrpgs including ones on the ps2, but i think being deemed niche and a masterpiece made it relatively more popular lol, at least in comparison to other smaller mainline spin offs. it’s still one of the most talked about megaten games that aren’t persona which isn’t a bad thing!! dds is a great and unique duology and a lot of the franchise has been overshadowed by modernsona + the toxic elitism the vocal part of the fanbase has continued to drive a lot of potential fans away, so it being relatively well known in the niche side of a fandom is nice and refreshing. however, i think it grew out of the forgotten/underrated label, which also gives it so much potential as a gateway.

i think the action games are way more overlooked (maken x (technically not megaten but it’s often associated with the series so it gets a mention) and devil summoner raidou kuzunoha) probably because they’re not turn based rpgs and the latter’s an action rpg (a genre that didn’t really get big until a bit more recently thanks to square enix and games like genshin impact). it’s a real shame since action games also were rampant on the ps2 thanks to titles such as devil may cry so some of the greats were heavily overshadowed. nobody talks about the raidou games unless it’s about raidou’s inclusion in other games i stg. tumblr’s the one place where i’ve seen recognition along with really small art accounts scattered across other social medias. i don’t think both games being vastly different than how megaten games normally play helps (and maybe the historical fiction angle ik not everyone’s a fan). this isn’t even to account for stuff like devil survivor or majin tensei or fuckin demikids.

i love how experimental the franchise used to be. it doesn’t get that way anymore i feel, with smt 5 being the most creative game in awhile if only from a gameplay standpoint. sega buying out atlus definitely marked the end of as much experimentation because sega’s significantly more corporate and their influence shows. persona’s a fantastic gateway into the rest of the franchise mainly due to how marketable it is as well as the stylization, and dds feels like the second best way to ease someone in due to the character focus balancing with the religious and philosophical themes, so i’m hoping the dds recognition also gets more people interested in other entries because this is actually one of the most influential and interesting game franchises i’ve ever seen and i think every side of it should be given more love. maybe that’ll influence more experimentation. who knows.

meanwhile the chad last bible enjoyers have been dying in a ditch for years despite it being possibly the biggest megaten spin off in terms of quantity of titles and ports, only able to live off the vids made by marsh. it’s actually really tragic. donate to your local charity and help save a last bible enjoyer’s life today.

this year my goal was to read at least 25 books (which now seems too easy) and i decided to start with rick's books cuz i loved pjo

(i then realized i had actually never finished the pjo series - i didnt finish the LAST book... thats crazy)

i went on yt and found a vid that showed the RIGHT way to read all his books so my journey started.

anyway blah blah blah, i wanted to talk about the kane chronicles

hell nah. that series was so bad 😭😭 (imo ofc and ill explain why i think so)

i should mention that i read the first and third book, but i only read half of the second book cuz it got very looooooong and boring to me (i just read the wikipedia summary for it)

also the only reason i read these books was cuz i knew there would be a collab between the magicians and demigods and that sounded rly interesting to me!

im usually not that picky when it comes to books/fics/anything so i was surprised i didnt like these books. first of all theyre so long, and for what.. the world ends in 3, 4, 5 days yet each book is 90k words at best and 120k-ish words at worst. it just dragged ooooooon and onnnnn and onnnnnnnnnn. i thought maybe its just the length that im not used to (even tho ive read way longer fics but i thought maybe its not the same..) then i started reading the heroes of olympus series which was a similar length and i sped thru those. which prob means that the kane chronicles were just boring. i was gonna say that it just felt like there were attacks and fights just cuz, but then again, thats kinda similar to percy jackson books. i cant put my finger on why some fights felt kinda useless and filler.. unlike in pj books. also when they beat apophis it felt too easy. there was so much build up to that final battle, and in the end he got destroyed in like half a page or smt.. not satisfying! and since we know the kane siblings are still alive (cuz of the recording being sent etc), it didnt feel like there was anything at stake.

the egyptian mythology was actually pretty interesting, i did like learning about it. however, at times there was just a LOT of info being dumped- so many gods/stories etc that i had a hard time remembering everything. i think w the percy jackson/greek mythology books there was just more time for rick to set the scene and build the world so it didnt feel that overwhelming (even tho it was still a lot, im ngl).

and now my biggest complaint... i thought rick could write powerful female characters butttttttttt maybe that was just annabeth LOL. SADIE WAS SO ANNOYING!!!!!! she was SO unlikeable but i think we werent supposed to dislike her??? yeah shes young but so was percy and annabeth and every demigod from the pjo series and they were much more enjoyable to read about. all she cared about was guys. more specifically, sadie, a 12yo, was head over heels for ANUBIS, a THOUSAND YEAR OLD god, who oh yeah,,, looked like a 16yo guy but idk if its just me, thats still a WEIRD/uncomfy AGE DIFFERENCE 😭shes so lucky that she ended up w basically both guys she had a crush on, but she still made it such a big deal when that happened.

like anubis had stabbed her in the back or smt lmfao. also should mention that in the pjo books for ex., percabeth didnt just happen when they were 12/13... a long time passed so that relationship could feel unrushed and natural.

dont get me wrong, liking a guy etc is all normal and very teenage-y (even tho sadie wasnt even a teenager when all this happened). but making that MOST of her personality, or smt she constantly thought about and prioritized during the END OF THE WORLD. she just seemed very irresponsible and immature (which makes sense cuz shes a child.... maybe i shouldnt be reading these books as an almost 20yo) (but i can still tell when some1 has annoying qualities objectively) (even if its still a kids book)

idk thats just annoying. carter was tryna save the day/world and sadie had other things in her mind. or when she wanted to go hang out w her friends for her bday even tho the world was ending VERY soon and they had to get going. yeah she wants to be a normal kid but rn theres more important things you gotta think about bbg (and yes i do understand that the dance or her bday hang out would help w morale but at least be on the look out for stuff and dont think that youre not still on the job and most likely putting every1 in danger..). save the world first, then enjoy your life. maybe take a cake to go while youre traveling. maybe call your besties and talk to them on the phone for an hour or whatever

carter wasnt perfect, but even his obsession w zia wasnt THAT bad. it felt more normal and smt the reader (or i) could get behind and not dislike him too much for.

i feel like theres more i had to say but theres too much negativity in this post already LOL im sorry 😭 this trilogy wasnt a 0 or 1 star, it was closer to 2 or maybe even 3. i didnt mind ignoring most of these. the only thing i couldnt ignore was sadie's attitude sometimes and ofc the weird relationship between her and anubis, but when walt showed up etc i had hope and it did get slightly better!

ofc im not a writer and i couldnt prob never write anything half as good as any of rick's books, but this is just my experience as the reader. as i mightve mentioned , rn im reading the heroes of olympus books for the first time and im enjoying them quite a lot!

Okay I think I'm mostly recovered, so here's the good and bad abut my Disney Wish vacation~!

THE GOOD

Really most everything but I guess I'll do some specifics

We got Concierge service and while it's expensive, it is 100% worth the cost OMG. Just the way it cut the boarding/disembarking time and made it much easier was worth every penny. But the staff, the longue, the perks- all was just so great~!

The ship itself is HUGE and has so much to do~!

As I said, the Concierge Lounge, as is the adult area, is lovely. I got to be in an infinity pool for the first time and gosh what a view~!

The views. OMG the VIEW~!

It was my first time out of the USA (went to The Bahamas) and while the experience was... rough, we went to this conservation garden area and seeing all the animals was so great~!

Meeting so many characters! The only ones I met that I hadn't in DIsney World were Pluto, Daisy, Moana, and Rapunzel. But even meeting the ones I had before was still a joy. When I told Mickey that the last time I saw him was 20 years ago? He immediately gave me the biggest hug and it truly felt like I was a little girl again meeting him. I almost cried XD

The food was fabulous~! The restaurants were also nice. There was a Frozen-themed one, a Marvel-themed, and 1923 which had TOMS of memorabilia of several classic and modern animated features. There were cels, concept art (some even having the animators and Nine Old Men's notes on them~!), models, and other trinkets from the era, and needless to say, 1923 was my favorite~!

I went to two karaoke events. The first time I sang the Christina Aguilera version of Reflection, the second time I did For the First tIme in Forever. My mom said I got the best reception both times haha~! She also filmed them so once things are a bit more calmed down I'll see if she'll send me the vids so I can post them.

Overall, I had an absolutely fantastic time~!

The Bad

As I kind of alluded to, The Bahamas was... ehhh. The location of Nassau itself was lovely (busy, but so are most big cities), but our excursion? The disembarking was utterly chaotic and disorganized, we had to wait on a bus in the heat for like... half an hour, and the drive to and back was rocky. We got a tour and tbh, it was a pretty underwhelming tour. Needless to say, we're probably not going to do an excursion again if we go again.

We saw an Aladdin show. The show itself was fun, but it started I think close to an hour late. Obviously, stuff like this happens and these people are worked to death enough so I'm not mad about it, but it was annoying at the time.

The ship actually broke down while we were in The Bahamas. Apparently, they even had to fly some mechanics in to get it going again. As such we had to skip the cruise's island. Now this wasn't so bad for me and my mom since it let us do more on the ship, but it just sucks for the staff because SO many people were angry. Seriously if you go on one of these cruises, be nice to the crew and staff. They are trying their damnest and there are many things beyond their control. They get it hard enough from higher-ups, we don't need to make it worst for them.

DEAR LORD PARENTS NEED TO LEARN TO CONTROL THEIR KIDS. The number of young children running around, getting rough, not listening to their parents, etc was utterly unnecessary. I know it's a vacation but your jobs as parents don't stop. Mine would have NEVER let me act like that and they sure as Hell didn't in Disney World 20 years ago. Part of it may be because they were cooped up on a ship, but still.

It was really hard to find your way around the ship. The safety drill was also utterly chaotic. Not much else to say there.

So it wasn't flawless, but what vacation is? Despite those downer points, I overall had such a fantastic time. And due to the ship breaking down, we actually got a 20% discount for the next one that's valid up to 2025, which was a fair trade to me~! The dogs also did super well with their dog-sitter which is what I was most anxious about because Petey doesn't really like strangers (Dante loves everyone so I wasn't worried about him as much), but that makes us less worried about going anywhere. But yeah, I'm hoping to go on another cruise one of these days even if it isn't Disney cause it was such a lovely time~! It was my first time on a ship and was something I'd always wanted to do and I loved it~! But I am glad to be home with my dogs and cat haha.

THAT'S THE ONLY ONE I LIKE!! i love watching vids about journaling and that kind of thing and they make the cutest decorated polaroids so i wanted to do something like that but very cutesy themed,, spring made me think of picnics so gingham <3 i actually played around with a few similar concepts like polaroid + random stickers and i planned to make banners with that but uuuu there are so many characters,, can't keep my focus for too long. i think they came out cute but it's probably too late to use them </3

i always wonder about what do people use to edit their pics because i was born a ps girlie and i still don't know how to use ps properly oops making your themes look nice and cohesive,, those cute pinned etc etc people who edit icons and make them look super aesthetic

i think i never tried to promote my blog because followers don't feel like an integral part of the process for me. i just write what comes to mind and share it with the world: if people like it i'm absolutely delighted and if they don't well,, at the end of the day most of my writing has been fun for me ^^ like come on i've written things that are silly and self indulgent and they worked fine and i'm here like. wow

i have an immense amount of cute enstars thoughts a day and i feel like if i can't share them i will combust (my best friend has to deal with me every day),, it's mostly cute romantic stuff with my favs and my ocs, for obv reasons so i'm like uuuu should i even tell this to someone it's just embarrassing. like only other enstarries could understand why i keep rotating this bunch of dorks around my brain and getting the biggest serotonin boost out of it ueeee

- Had to go back and check I hadn’t already post some ‘Chubby’ on this thing already and I’m surprised to see I hadn’t. I love both Chubby albums, and was paying pretty close attention when they were dropping visuals and generally building a lot of buzz around their tours and shows last year. 

- I caught them opening for Turnstile, my first live gig post-covid lockdowns last spring / early summer. I’ve gotta say they probably weren’t at their best. Charlie looked a little lost on a stage the size of the Kentish Town Forum. The fact he necked a good half a bottle of JD during their 20 minute set probably indicates a degree of nervousness about being up there, and fair fucking play, I’d probably do much the same. That said, it was a great show. Turnstile killed and the kids went off. I certainly left happy. I similarly left happy after seeing Big Cheese play with Fucked Up a couple weeks ago in Kings Cross. The connection here being that two members of CATG play in BC also, and Meg played with Fucked Up on the recent tour too. Once again proving that irrespective of however many great punk bands and records come out and how big a scene might seen from the outside, it always the same small handful of very creatively motivated people doing 80-90% of the work!

- I don’t think Chubby and The Gang tend to play I Hate The Radio in their live sets. Although it might technically be regarded as ‘the slow song’ on their second album, ‘The Mutt’s Nuts’, it would be wrong to dismiss it as somehow less good than their usual oi-phetamine anthems. What I particularly love about this song is the chorus, and particularly the wicked vocal melodies between Charlie and Meg. It gives me very sixties melancholic Motown, girl group vibes, which, when think about it, still connects back to the band’s wider Rock’n’roll, proto-OI, bovver rock aesthetic and sound on this record. It might have blended a bit less well on Speed Kills, mind you. Aside from the killer vocals, there’s some low key fire drumming from Joe that stops the rhythm section from feeling a ploddy and pedestrian background beat to the harmonies.

- The video itself makes the band and central London look very cute. It’s a simple, vibes based vid and that’s ok. Maybe it was coming of age in the early 00s, the era of the DSLR democratisation, but I’m still a sucker for len’s flare and over exposure which the directors use a lot of here, to very good effect. And hat’s off also for taking full advantage of the much less busy streets of London a year or two ago to have fun with this video in an area of London you’re best avoiding any time after 5 in the evening.

- I’m sure there must be hundreds of music videos that have been filmed inn around Piccadilly circus (not a bad idea for Youtube Playlist!), but off the top of my head the only other one that springs to mind is Devlin’s ‘London City’. Although sonically quite different to ‘I Hate The Radio’, both artists shared a strong distaste for radio: Devlin was a member of infamous lyrical grime crew The Movement who filmed some of their most famous freestyles on a DVD series called Fuck Radio. The visuals on both videos share a similar late night central London wooziness and melancholy. They low key communicate that strange feeling of disconnection or loneliness in the busiest part of a city, at the busiest time of the week. What Dostoevsky say, eh?

- Anyhow, existential ramblings aside. This tune and video are very cute. I look forward to seeing Chubby play live again soon.
