I spent my entire MA studying the influence of the 9/11 attacks on literature and it blew my absolute socks off when I first saw One WTC in Manifest yesterday. It 1. was just the strangest sight because the spike is so characteristic that for a second I was like,,, oh right they built a new one but 2. I realised that series and films have almost avoided showing the new tower? Full disclosure, I watch a lot of old films, but in none of the new films I’ve seen in recent years do they show One WTC. Apparently it used to be in a Spiderman game, but they were told to take it out because they didn’t want to have people virtually jumping off of the building. This is cultural trauma at its finest and I am encaptivated. Can I do another MA for the sole purpose of researching the presence/absence of One WTC in popular culture?
