This is such a cool idea!! I've been kind of frustrated with Mark this season, but he's also a teenager just trying to navigate the world in a way that makes the most sense to him.

After Nolan goes insane and abandons Earth, Cecil decides he needs a constant feed of information on Mark's mental state

Enter stage right: his teenage child

Who, up till now, was a secret from all but the highest ranking government officials.

but now he's transferred you to Reginald Vel Johnson High School, rigging the system just enough so that you have three classes plus lunch with Mark.

He gently suggested it might be a good idea to make friends, and send you on your way.

and much to his chagrin, you and Mark hit it off immediately!

You only find out why your dad made you change schools when Mark reveals his secret identity to you

but luckily for Cecil, you know your dad well

He has reasons for things

"Y/n... I'm... Invincible."

"oh? OH-! Cool- thats- amazing, Mark, really! I'm gonna be right back!" And you crash into the hallway, running down the stairs out to your car and calling your dad

"Y/n I told you not to call this line at wo-"

"YOU SET ME UP WITH INVINCIBLE?!"

"Woahhhh, no. No, not like that I just- I need to keep an eye on him. I'm not asking you to spy or betray anybody, just make sure he's level-headed and not an evil Viltrumite. Okay, kiddo?"

So you begrudgingly start reporting to your dad on Mark's mental state

And this goes fine, for a while

You and Mark get into college together, staying in contact even when Mark goes rogue

All until Mark threatens Cecil, and Cecil reveals he basically has an audio bomb implanted into Mark

Mark comes home to tell you and William about it, not understanding when you choked on your drink at the news

"He did WHAT?" You yelled, slamming your mug down onto William's dorm table and pulling yourself to your feet "That fucking- I can't believe-" You mumbled incoherently, trying to keep your cover

Would Mark still be your friend if he knew?

Would your dad blow this for you?

You didn't know what to expect at all

Mark's right across from you, talking about how he threatened your father, and you don't know if he would do the same to you

I mean, of course he wouldn't

You've known Mark almost two years by now, you're practically family

You go on like this, nervously keeping your fathers secret

and it's fine until he starts asking more and more of you

Ask deeper questions, get more specifics, figure out what he's planning, try and convince him Cecil is right

and how can you say no when his throat is purple and bruised

you loved your dad

and so you start digging deeper into Mark

"Say, Mark," you pop a fry into your mouth, him, you, and William at a drive through parking lot "Why don't you believe in rehabilitation? I mean, like, you were pretty anti prison in highschool, remember that whole presentation we had to do?"

Mark tenses, and he can't give you a better answer than "It's just not right. Y/n, it just.... it isn't okay."

There isn't a lot you can do with that.

Mark, in secret, is growing suspicious

He's paranoid, though, and can't take his suspicious seriously

What if though? What if you're an alien or a spy or someone who could get someone really hurt?

He asks Rudy to run a background check on you

"I'm surprised Mark, what do you want to know?" He seems candid, like this is an unusual request but nothing he can't do

"I want to know- uhg- everything! Where they come from, are they evil? A criminal past? Wh-"

Rudy cuts off Mark, with a curious voice "Where they come from? Mark of course they're human, just as human as Cecil is, and he swears the mother was human as well"

"What does Cecil have to do with this?"

"Oh. Oh you don't know."

Mark is growing impatient "Don't know what, Rudy?"

"Y/n is Cecil's child. How else would I know them?"

"I didn't know you knew them! I- what???" Mark is furious, his chest starts heaving and he crouches down on the floor of teen teams hideout

He has to talk to you.

Tensions are high when you meet

in the woods

behind your university

alone.

He knows, he has to know, there's not way he doesn't know and he's not going to totally murder you oh noooooo

So when Mark arrives, and you're shaking like a leaf, it only reaffirms your guilt in his eyes

"Y/n- You're working for Cecil? Why?!"

"Why? Mark- he's my dad!" You're on the verge of crying, a state of hysteria Mark has never seen you reach

But he's relentless, and continues "Our whole friendship was a lie?! You've been, what? Spying on me? Poisoning me slowly in my sleep? What- are you just waiting to strike?!"

He approaches you, and you duck to the ground, covering your head with your hands

"Please don't hurt me!!"

Mark pauses, watching his friend- who never felt scared of him before- cower beneath him, flinching when he raises his voice

He felt his soles hit the ground, unaware he'd even begun flying

"Y/n.... I'm not going to hurt you."

He patted the top of your head as you looked up at him, bleary-eyed

"But... I can't let you hurt me either."

and with that, Mark was gone, the fallen leaves flying everywhere as he left

and you were left alone in the woods, still shaking like a leaf

Mark was hurt and betrayed, and he couldn't hurt you

but he could definitely hurt Cecil

and he just might.

This really got me thinking and praying 'cause I had no idea how to portray this. I decided to focus on the reader to have a lot of that Penelope style loyalty, but it's really hard to portray in a single oneshot. And of course I made this a Zane x male reader. I hope it's good!

Takes place between the end of season 3 and the start of season 4.

Never Forget

"(y/n), Zane's gone. It's about time you accept that."

"And just move on? Who do you take me for, Nya?" As usual, (y/n) was sitting on the same bench in the same park at the same time of day as usual. The place where he visited every day.

Everyday. Everyday (y/n) came to Ninjago City Central Park and sat down on the bench opposite of the giant titanium statue in the shape of, well, the Titanium Ninja.

Nya, who had ran into (y/n) by pure coincidence, set her tote bag on the ground and sat down next to the boy.

"You should stop torturing yourself." Nya spoke, watching how a birds huddled together on the arm of Zane's statue. "It's been a year since Overlord's attack. If Zane had survived, he'd surely have shown himself."

"Since when did you become such a pessimist?" (y/n) asked, tilting his head at Nya.

The two hadn't seen each other much since the Overlord's attack, and even the ninja team had officially split up. Though neither (y/n) or Nya were ninja, they too went their separate ways.

Of course they used to be a lot closer back when Zane was around. The team's very own Nindroid brought life into their lives, and even introduced (y/n) to them.

It was a strange match, a Nindroid and a human, but the team didn't seem to mind.

Nya sighed, pulling her jacket tighter around herself as the cool autumn breeze rustled the trees. "I'm not being a pessimist. I'm just... trying to be realistic. We all miss him, (y/n). But holding onto the past like this' it isn't going to bring him back."

"But why do we act like he never existed in the first place? No one seems to care at all anymore, like they've forgotten all about him! I fear I might too..."

"You won't," Nya assured him gently. "None of us will."

But fiddled anxiously with his fingers. "And it's not just that. It's..." He hesitated, fingers tightening into fists. "I feel like he's still out there. Somewhere. And if there's even a chance, even if just a hundredth of a prosent, then how can I just walk away?"

Nya studied him for a long moment, something unreadable in her expression. Then, with a quiet sigh, she stood, grabbing her bag. "I can't tell you what to do. But I don’t want to see you spend your whole life waiting for a ghost."

"But I've got to take these groceries back to base." She hesitated before giving (y/n)'s shoulder a brief squeeze. "Take care of yourself, (y/n)."

He didn't answer. He just kept staring at the statue as Nya walked away.

The sun had begun to set, and the time (y/n) usually left the park was approaching. (y/n) closed his eyes, listening to the wind for one more moment. Listening to the distant hum of the city, distant chatter of people, some birds singing, and then-

A whisper. (y/n)'s eyes snapped open. (y/n) could have sworn he heard his name.

Then he heard a soft flutter of wings. (y/n) turned just in time to see a sleek metallic falcon land on the back of the bench, tilting its head at him.

"Oh, it's just you." (y/n) relaxed, moving a hand and petting the robot bird's head gently. The falcon squinted its eyes contently, even letting out a quiet caw.

"You scared me." (y/n) admitted to the falcon. "You miss him too, don't you buddy?"

(y/n) asked as he lowered his hand, once again glancing at Zane's statue.

As if remembering something, it suddenly flailed its wings frantically, letting out a sharp cry before taking off, circling above (y/n) once before gliding toward the city streets.

though in confusion, (y/n) took off after it, weaving through the park and into the dimming streets of Ninjago City.

The falcon turned sharply, diving into a narrow alley. (y/n) followed, skidding to a halt as he spotted something in the dim light. It was a folded piece of paper, placed neatly on an old crate.

The falcon landed next to it and pecked the paper aggressively, definitely making a few holes in the paper.

"Hey, calm down." (y/n) softly told the falcon before picking up the paper. The falcon looked restless as it stared right into (y/n)'s eyes.

(y/n) unfolded the paper and froze. There were no words on the paper, just a picture. A picture of Zane.

The falcon shrieked, suddenly even more restless. (y/n) glanced at it, but didn't know why it was so panicked, and turned away. (y/n) was still wondering silently what the picture was, and what it was doing here.

(y/n) missed completely the quiet noise the falcon had tried to warn him of: a group of shady people approaching him from behind.

When (y/n) finally heard the out of place rustling of fabric behind him, it was too late. A thump sounded out, and everything went went black.

When (y/n) woke up, the back of his head was throbbing. The place was dim, but from somewhere in front of him came dim orange light.

(y/n) tried to reach out to it, but was stopped when his hand ran into a wooden door.

He was in a cell. Like, prison cell, but a lot creepier, and the only light came from a tiny circle shaped window on the wooden door. Though (y/n) couldn't see well, he noticed the cell he was in was cluttered. (y/n) there was even a computer and spare robot parts. Something about them looked familiar, but (y/n) wasn't sure why.

(y/n) waited until his head wasn't killing him, then picked up a gear from the floor and hit it against the door as hard as he could.

"Hey! Is someone there?!" He called, no one answered.

"Just so you know I am friends with the ninja! When they find out about this, you are in so much trouble!"

"The ninja?" A sudden, mechanical voice called from the other side of the wall on (y/n)'s left.

"Yes, the ninja!" (y/n) held back a scoff. "So you'd better let me out of here right now!"

"I can't do that. I'm trapped, just like you." The same voice answered

"Ah, sorry about that." (y/n) let out an awkward laugh, then sunk to the floor.

"No worries. But If I may inquire, your voice sounds very familiar, have we met before?"

"Umm... Maybe? What's your name?" (y/n) spoke, leaning against the wall from which the person's voice was coming from.

"Zane." No. No way. (y/n) wondered what he'd do to get this cruel prank played on him.

"Zane?" (y/n) repeated, thinking he must have just heard wrong. They person in the other cell didn't sound like Zane after all. Or at least he didn't sound exactly like Zane. The more (y/n) thought about it, the more similar they sounded.

"Yes," the voice responded, calm and steady. "And you are?"

(y/n) felt dizzy, his mind racing. Could it really be him or was this really just a cruel prank. (y/n) pressed his palm flat against the cold, rough wall between them, as if he could somehow reach through it and touch the person on the other side.

"(y/n)," he finally managed. "I'm (y/n)."

There was a pause.

"…I know that name," Zane then continued. "But… I do not understand why."

Now (y/n) was sure. On the other side of the wall, Zane had inched as close to the wall as he could, but since one of his hands was shackled to the back wall, he couldn't get very close.

His otherwise neutral face showed something akin to confusion... with a hint of sorrow.

But that all turned to surprise as he heard a quiet sniffle from the other side of the wall, and before Zane knew it, the quiet sniffling turned to whimpering and crying.

As if on instinct, Zane tensed up. "I'm sorry, I had not intention to make you cry."

When his words did little to change the situation, Zane continued.

"I can tell that you know me… but I cannot recall how. My memory is fragmented. I barely remember my own name. I'm sorry… I must have forgotten you."

"No, don't apologize." (y/n)'s voice came from the other side of the wall, sounding like he was holding back on crying again.

"But I made you cry."

"I'm crying because I'm happy!" (y/n) suddenly insisted, his voice rising. "It's been so long since I last heard your voice. How could I not?"

Zane was quiet for a moment. "You truly do feel familiar… but I cannot-"

"Don't force yourself to remember," (y/n) interrupted gently. ane couldn't see it, but he had started smiling. "I'm here now. Just… don't forget me again."

I can understand the animators wanting to add Miyo sympathizing with Fuyu and seeing a human side of her but it just feels awkwardly placed here at this moment of the story because Miyo is still working hard to get along with Fuyu. I kept expecting the actual dialogue from the Light Novel here of Miyo hilariously saying she'll only tell what happened with Fuyu if Kiyoka promises he won't get mad (which he broke anyway lol)

but the anime just went to a totally different direction and I was like, "what?"

I think this anime scene would have been fine if this was added at the end of their visit to the Kudo villa when Fuyu has finally acknowledged Miyo.

The stupidity of not understanding that a show being staged is kind of part of its basic principle aside, I also don't really think saying El brought everyone together is correct ? I mean, if you consider that she's the one who opened the portal and everything is on her because of it, sure, but I'm pretty sure that's not what they want to imply. (I hope at least because that would be a bit cold if it were)

Narratively speaking, the groups were brought together by Will, not by El. She helps them in Season 1 for sure, but she's not the one that makes everyone actually ally with one another : Will's vanishing (and the hope to find him) is.

I will also comment on the idea that El has to save them all on her own : the show has been making it clear since the beginning that El can't do it alone (she dies the first time because no one can help her in S1, then would have died if someone didn't decide to help her in 2 - the tunnels - and 3 - the fireworks, and loses in 4). Sorry not sorry, but if the writers decide that the right ending for the show is "Superhero El can do it all on her own"... I am turning off the TV and never watching it again because that would be stupid as hell. I really don't get why someone would want that ending : it is so boring to me.

I would say this post is a good example of the fact that multiple interpretations of the why behind a shot are possible (this specific shot doesn't have to refer to couples, the people could just be stand-ins for their overall groups for instance), but they're still not created equal. If that was the actual message the shot wanted to give, it would have made way more sense for Will to be alone, in front of or behind everyone. Every single of the couples that would then be behind/before him have explicitely been brought together because of everything that happened to him : El and Mike met, Jonathan and Nancy became friends, Joyce and Hopper rekindled their high school friendship; and those duos united to save Will. But that's not what they chose to do, and considering how staged the shot is: there might just be a reason for that.

It *does* hurt that I got let go without any warning (even if I knew it was a possibility, especially since it's the slow season now and they're specifically replacing half of my department with other stuff) *because* I've been looking for other jobs with the plan to do a full two-weeks notice when I found one, and I've been secretly planning this entire time to eventually leave, making things as neat and easy as possible for whoever ends up overseeing my department. I didn't want any of the extra work to fall on my coworkers, the other department managers who have their own workloads. So it really sucks that higher-ups decided that I didn't deserve any warning, and neither did any of my teammates who will now have to pick up all the slack without any guidance from me.

Omg you talked about 2012 TMNT and I suddenly remembered how much of that show I watched when I was younger,,, oh the nostalgia. I don't remember all too much from it now but I remember loving it. I've never watched rottmnt but like. I probably should if it's as good as everyone has been saying it is

honestly i only watched a little bit of 2012 as a kid, i was never super into that style/genre of cartoon so i only watched it if it happened to come on hjsdghj

rottmnt is SO good. it's very very different to 2012 in a lot of ways, but the art and the writing and the voice acting are all sososo good. the characterization for all the turtles is super different as well so if youre used to a snarky Raph and a. well. a Rob Paulsen Donnie. you might not vibe with Rise at first

but thats one of the things i really love about the entire franchise, each version keeps the core concept (four mutant turtles raised by a rat are trained to be ninjas) and most of the characters the same while also all being really unique and having different takes on all the characters. i enjoy this aspect of the franchise to the point that im making my own fan reboots and everything hjksdhg

the main reason i initially watched Rise was because i heard Donnie was really good autistic rep and i have to agree, ive never connected with a character this much before hgjsdhg hes also a really good example of low empathy imo, and i very much feel like my own experience with low empathy is being represented here

the art is something i see people complain about a lot when theyre coming from a background of watching 2012 or 2003, and i definitely felt like the art was kinda weird at first, but it's also so fun and striking and as you get used to it and start picking up on little details it gets better and better

a lot of classic TMNT villains dont make appearances in Rise, and the ones who do are WAY different to the older versions, but they also have a whole ton of new villains who are super cool and compelling as well (Draxum and Big Mama my beloved <3)

the movie can technically be watched as a standalone but i highly recommend saving it til youve watched both seasons because HOLY FUCKING SHIT. THE EMOTIONS. the scene that always makes me cry probably wouldnt hit me the way it does if i didnt have all the background of the seasons

every day that goes by it feels more and more likely that I'll get this promotion and I can't believe I'm at a place in my life where that's even a possibility. like last year I had just the absolute worst time with employment and just had a horrible year in general but I feel like I got so lucky finding this job. except they felt lucky to find ME. like the hiring manager told me she was so happy to have multiple candidates and that I was easily the best out of the group (she's had to hire people out of desperation/only having one candidate before and they never worked out bc they weren't good fits at all) and my confidence has skyrocketed since I started working there because my boss and coworkers treat me like an equal even though I'm young and relatively inexperienced. they treat me like they believe I'm capable and competent and it makes me feel capable and competent and it's incredible. the idea that I could be getting a promotion for the first time in my life after only 3 months at this place is insane but I'm so hopeful because nobody acts like it's a far-fetched idea. I'm taken seriously and it gave me the confidence I needed to actually say that I'm interested in that promotion and that I know I'm capable of doing that position. plus the company itself is great honestly, I feel really lucky to work there. even as a part time employee at the lowest level I feel genuinely important and appreciated. I've already met the person who would be my boss if I get promoted and she seems just as respectful as everyone else. are all employee-owned companies like this???
