Just came across a dynamic I've never seen before and I'm going feral. There's an NBC show called Found about an investigator who's so good at finding missing people she's practically psychic. She's famous because she herself had been kidnapped and saved herself and another girl from their captor when she was sixteen. The preview shows an interview where she's asked if she ever worries that her kidnapper was never found, and she just smiles wide and says no.
Guess what? He's chained up in her basement helping her solve cases. And he doesn't fight. Even seems to enjoy being her partner, though she sneers every time he says the word.

[Image ID: text over a photo of a ceiling and walls with a chandelier and potted plants - "I told my friends that we should have a crow party where everyone brings and trades silver trinkets and we wear black and whoever brings the best object is crowned the crow lord/lady but they said that's a weird and bad idea so there will be no crow party" /End ID]

I think the reason conservatives hate environmentalism so much is that all the terminology is too friendly and lame sounding to take seriously. I purpose we change the following terms to get these people on our side.
Solar powered -> Plasma charged
Wind power -> Vortex energy
Electric vehicle -> Lightning machine
Renewable resource -> Infinity asset
Greenhouse gasses -> Death Clouds
Global warming -> Property devaluation
Environmentalists -> Wilderness cops
For example, saying you're a wilderness cop that drives a lightning machine powered by infinity assets to reduce death clouds and increase your property value sounds 100x more macho than the alternative.

oh my GOD they need to bring back the hoplitodromos for the olympics
i wanna see people running in full armor
#i know this isn’t feasible but it would be soooo cool#esp if each country competing used traditional armor from their country#it would have to be standardized for weight but COME ONNNNN#that sounds awesome

Also I would like to note my cousin (13) got told she looks like an "emo lesbian" as an insult because she was wearing black
Told her since gay people often use fashion as self expression and are good at it that's literally a compliment. The bully gave her the best compliment ever.
At least she liked hearing that
#I'd love to be told I look like an emo lesbian you kidding me?#that sounds awesome#I see no downsides

I love libraries.
I'm browsing the WWI shelves (as you do) and notice a very old book about the war. I glance at the first pages that talk about how one day the war will be over and we'll look at this place and not see any signs of the battlefield.
Then it hits me. And I check the publishing date.
This book was printed before the war's end. Not written. Printed. The physical object was created in 1918, while the war in question was raging and the end was as yet uncertain.
Now I'm standing on the other side of the apocalypse, with this physical link to that era in my hands. I'm living proof that the war did end and life did go on and we can all look at the end of the world as a long-ago memory.
Reading old books is cool enough, connecting our minds and hearts through the ideas of people who lived long ago, but there's something extra profound about holding a copy of the book that comes from the time that it was written. It's a physical link between the past and the present connecting me to those long-ago people. A piece of the past come into the future that gives me the chance to almost take the hand of some long-ago reader, to hold something they could have held, connecting not just mentally but physically to their era, a moment of connection across more than a century.
Excuse me while I go weep.
#books#history is awesome#of course i checked it out#i had no real intent to read wwi non-fic but i couldn't just leave my new friend there it'd be lonely#i want to break out in tears every time i look at it#it's so stupid but sometimes something stupid just kicks you straight in the heart and you just gotta deal#it's old front line by john masefield#i know nothing about it except thinking the author's name sounded vaguely familiar#also the interior design is fantastic#these old books know how to use white space and make something super readable#if you must know i was in the wwi section because i was at the history museum the other day#and saw a local author had a book of wwi letters#thought i'd see if the library had it#looked at the selection of non-fic surrounding it and thought of the wwi persuasion#saw many books that could be useful#and thought 'oh no this looks like fun'#it won't go anywhere i know i won't be able to focus long enough to do real research#but darn if it wasn't an appealing little daydream
