ableism is shockingly common in the neopets community, especially with the release of today's chapter. it was bad enough that certain groups reacted negatively to the library faerie being a wheelchair user despite us previously never seeing the lower half of her body. but now that tavi's been revealed to have lost her leg up to the joint in a climbing accident i've seen some really nasty comments regarding it.

someone saying they "take issue with too much of our real world bleeding into our make-believe one" especially is so incredibly callous. are disabled people suddenly excluded from escapism in fantasy because this person can't stand to be taken out of their fantasy where everyone is like them?

and trying to smokescreen blatant ableism with "well i'm just worried about the creator of the design! they probably weren't asked about these changes and i'd be pretty upset if someone changed my character to be a cripple- i mean disabled!" is honestly even more pathetic. even if TNT did create new disabled characters instead of being creative with minor characters that had zero plot relevance (or even art of their lower half in the case of the library faerie), they probably wouldn't be well received by these people either. insert obligatory "you just changed/made this character to check a representation box" comment that would happen whether it was an existing character or a brand new one.

i'm honestly disgusted with this kind of response, especially given how well baelia and ozzy's mental disabilities/disorders were received. baelia was already a metaphor for a lot of things, one of which being chronic illness and disability given her inability to fly or use magic. so why is the reintroduction of two (2) physically disabled characters who had no relevance before this plot such a grievance to people?

Sanders Sides theory (rant). I know im mainly a mh acc here but I have thoughts i need to get out there

(just fyi this theory is Roman centric, I know most TSS people nowadays are talking ab Orange and Logan so if Roman's not interesting then continue on 🔥🔥)

Okay so. I was scrolling through Sanders Sides theories and found that no one seems to have this theory, even though I thought the Roman angst enjoyers like me would be writing this all over the place but. Ig that means I need to talk about it.

I've had this theory for years now, since the day I first watched SVS Redux.

I think Roman is going to duck out.

I dont know if I have to explain why but. I mean, just looking at the explosive end SVS Redux had will tell you a lot.

He doesn't belive Patton when he tells him they love him. He thinks Thomas has lost all faith in him in favor of the person Roman views as the epitome of evil. He's been switching views left and right to stay on Patton's side (because Thomas prides himself on his morals), but he always ends up doing something wrong - he always ends up as an antagonist. He no longer believes that he is the one thing that being has kept him stable since "Am I Original?" - Thomas' hero. The only side he has a stable and positive relationship with is VIRGIL of all people. And tbh that could quickly be ruined too. Logan is second, though, but that's EXTREMELY fragile, as we've seen.

Roman always does something wrong and it will and has sent him over the edge. From Roman's perspective, with a very flawed view of everyone around him, he is inherently the thing that flaws Thomas.

+ Roman is really dramatic obviously, so ofc he would do this.

When you look at Virgil's reasonings for ducking out, it seems plausible after everything Roman has gone through recently, too. I mean like:

"I quit. Decided it wasn't worth it anymore"

Why would Roman keep fighting a battle he knows he will never win?

"Well, It didn’t seemed like I was wanted. You all made that pretty clear any time I showed up."

Again, from Roman's perspective, he is constantly and consistently antagonized.

"If I wanted to stand around being insulted, I would've shown up I would've shown up in person like I usually do."

"I actually think you were right to not want me around."

Roman fears that he is becoming the villain (as we see in SVS, SVS Redux and DWIT).

(In fact, Roman has already said something quite similar to that last one in sentiment.

In SVS Redux, Roman says this, which is pretty funny because of the dramatics and the stupidity, and does get shot down quickly, but I am begging you to listen to him.

"The blame falls to me. If you're missing that do-gooder drive... I think It's because I'm in the driver seat... And I'm an awful driver... Perhaps... Perhaps I should let Patton take the wheel.")

(2nd sidenote to the Virgil quotes, can we talk ab Thomas' acting again I just love how tired Virgil is in AA. He's so. Troubled. I love him.)

THIS!! First of all his face makes me so sad BUT SECOND OF ALL yeah. Roman core idk what else to say, you get it right.

So yeah.

Anyway, I think the episode where Roman does this will be centered around depression. Without Roman, Thomas is depressed. Let me explain this further.

Roman is Thomas' creativity, imagination, ego, passion, love, wills and wants, hopes and dreams, aspirations and enthusiasm.

Without any of that, what is left? A guy who can't even will himself out of bed, but can still feel the nagging voice of reason and logic telling him how unreasonable he's being. A guy who cant will himself to talk to friends, family and loved ones, but can still feel sorrow for letting them down and worrying them. A guy who can't will himself to pursue creative content that he relies on for a living but can still feel anxious about letting millions of people down and never being able to create again. A guy who cant even make food for himself or brush his teeth, but still knows he NEEDS to take care of himself. A guy whose only creativity is activly trying to disturb and scare him.

So yeah thats really awesome idk.

Furthermore, I think the sides might be SEVERELY impacted.

It has been said many times over the series that the sides are purely figments of Thomas' IMAGINATION. so. Without Roman, I doubt anything would be left. Obviously, if Roman does duck out, I don’t think they'd all immediately just cease to exist because an episode still needs to occur, but I find it likely that they'd all start slowly fading or maybe even "malfunctioning", glitching, putting them on a timer to get back Roman and making it far more tense.

Is this theory weird?????? I feel like it's the natural progression TO ME but I've seen no one even getting near this and im just confused ghfhfhfh. Maybe it is kind of weird and im just too much of a Roman enthusiast. SORRY I LOVE ANNOYING WEIRDO FREAKS!!!! AND IF I WAS HIM ID DUCK OUT TOO BECAUSE NO ONE IS APPRECIATING HIM ☹️☹️☹️ EVEN THOUGH HE'S LITERALLY WHAT MAKES THOMAS DO THINGS. 🙄🙄🙄🙄

Anyway.

I also think it fits really well because of Prinxiety's parallels, such as:

(using the ship name just as a duo name because that's what I usually do I am not trying to push the prinxiety agenda although I am a fan of it ghfyfgfh)

The only difference in these two is obviously that Virgil just silently ducks out, while Roman has the entire "You make us better" speech, probably effectivly saving Virgil and Thomas, because it seems like Virgil was going to insist.

(Also another sidenote that I think everyone will agree with: WE NEED A "YOU MAKE US BETTER" SPEECH BY VIRGIL FOR ROMAN that is all)

There’s blood dripping from Max’s hands. It’s staining the hotel carpet, but Lando can’t be bothered by it when Max approaches the bed, bloodied hands leaving red imprints against the pristine white bedding. He tugs at Lando’s ankle to pull him away from the headboard, laying him out across the comforter. Lando goes with it, incapable of not following Max wherever he leads.

He moves them so Lando is flat on his back. It accentuates the slow rise and fall of his chest, the steady calm of his heartbeat. Sometimes Lando is unsettled with the way he’s comfortable around Max. He’ll allow the hands that choke to cup his cheek and stroke his hair. Max is so gentle with him, but he can see the tension jumping beneath his skin. Lando can see the wild gleam in Max’s eyes, the saliva that pools in his jaw. He doesn’t know what keeps Max from snapping and biting and ripping and pulling until Lando is so wholly undone he’s nothing but strips of tendon and shredded bone. But sometimes, he doesn’t care because Max is Max and when Max decides it’s time to finally consume Lando then so be it.

His attention slips back to the present by the weight of Max’s body pressing against his torso. His cheek is resting on Lando’s chest, but Lando swears he can feel the ghost of sharp teeth at his neck. He doesn’t feel alarm, the pressure isn’t biting, the threat of his throat being torn out by Max is nonexistent.

Sometimes, he thinks this is all Max wants. All Max needs. A place where he can exist with no expectations and no need to be anything but present and alive. Deep down, Lando knows being quiet and docile is the only thing sparing him of Max’s brutality.

It’s different out on the track. While racing, Max succumbs completely to the animalistic side of him. The side that hungers. No one is spared because when Max is hungry, he devours. Lando can recall the collision that ended his race early. He can recall the way Max shrugged it off, eyes glinting. Lando’s just a human, fragile, so he didn’t argue his defense. He knows his place and he won’t be forced to bow like some of the other humans standing before Max.

(Is what he’s doing any different? Is it any better? He’s laid himself out, but his fate won’t be any different.)

He remembers Max’s first championship. He remembers how Max came to Lando with blood running down his hands in thick rivulets more times than not. Lando never considered what would happen if it was his own blood. He can feel it drying between his own fingers from where Max is holding his hand. It’s gentle, far too gentle for a raging beast, starving for everything he could ever have and beyond that.

This thing being nurtured between them is dangerous. It could easily sour and destroy Lando. He knows he wouldn’t be able to stop it, he’d probably welcome it because if anyone were to ever to ruin Lando, at least it’d be Max.

He runs his hands down Max’s spine. Back up again to scratch the fine hairs at the nape of his neck. He rests his head back against the pillow, falling asleep to the phantom feeling of hot breath panting against his throat.

Is it just me or does Himiko Toga sort of, at least in an allegorical sense, read as autistic child failed by the system.

No one ever gave her a chance, no one bothered to work with her on her level, no one tried to understand, to see things from her viewpoint.

She was only ever told her behavior and very way of being was unacceptable, but was never given an actual explanation from the adults in her young life because they just went straight to trying to 'fix' her instead of actually working to figure out why she thought her behavior and perceptions of affection were normal.

ok I guess I will explain what the symbolism in this drawing means under this cut now :)

BASICALLY Rave’s tags on his art got me thinking about mutual sentience theory & the idea that who these puppets actually are does not align with what playfellow workshop created them to be — specifically, the actual desires of the puppets in whps are not the same as what playfellow thinks they should desire — and it made me think about how it might apply to Frank & Julie.

We know that neither of them fall into (strictly) binary gender labels, we know that Frank is gay, we know that Julie was confirmed sapphic in a stream — and yet we see playfellow putting them into the roles of cisgender heterosexual man & woman respectively, that they cast them to be in the roles of each others romantic love interests (see julie-rella animation cels). So I wanted to draw something based on that concept, the contrast of who they are vs who they’re “supposed” to be.

This is why I included 2 Franks and 2 Julies here, one set in my usual style for drawing them and the other being more ‘on-model’ — the former are a representation of who the puppets actually are, with their agency, while the latter are who playfellow themselves outline the puppets to be. The playfellow puppets are a ‘perfect’ version of sorts, their canonical accuracy + their sparkling appearance being extensions of how true to the script they are.

The framing of these two sets, how they interact with each other within the image, is meant to show the situational helplessness Julie and Frank share. They are stuck together in a ring of lavender flowers (do you get it. wedding rings. lavender marriage. I’m a master of artistic metaphor /j), looking to one another in worry as they’re surrounded by playfellow’s expectations. Neither of them want this, for themselves nor for each other, but what are they meant to do? They aren’t trapped by something they can just escape from, they’re trapped by their own identities; the will of their creators and the will of themselves are intrinsically linked, each at their core are answers to the question of who “Julie Joyful” and “Frank Frankly” are, to try and sever that connection is an impossible task.

The circles above each of the on-model puppets’ heads are primarily meant to be halos bc well. you know how queer religious trauma goes (there’s a ‘playfellow workshop is a stand-in for american christianity and possibly god’ metaphor in there somewhere) BUT they are also supposed to represent wedding rings too, to show yet again how playfellow likely wants them to be a couple — and not in the “a couple of bestiesss(๑>◡0)~☆” way they’d like to be

I think that’s all????? not really much else I can say here. background is black + slightly red for that whrp undersite feel and the on-model puppets are drawn in white to contrast with the primarily black background but also because they’re technically Julie & Frank’s straightsonas & black+white=straight pride flag. ok bye

Especially ones with faces such as stuffed animals. to the point where more than once you have cried over a stuffed animal lost in the street <- and for context im not someone who cries often thats not really how i express things so like. uh
