If you thought the singles released prior to the album were indicative of the direction this LP would take, think again. Y/n’s highly anticipated latest release, "TIDES," is an ambitious and masterful exploration of love's euphoria and its darker, toxic undertones. Known for her sultry R&B style, y/n transcends genre boundaries in this 15-track opus, weaving together dance, electronic, pop, and reggae influences to craft a cohesive narrative.

The album opens with "Cellophane," a haunting electronic ballad reminiscent of FKA Twigs' ethereal work. This opening track is something we’ve never seen from y/n, yet her delicate vocals float over a sparse, echoing production, setting a tone of vulnerability and foreshadowing the emotional journey ahead. This track is a stunning prologue, drawing listeners into a world where love is as fragile as the titular cellophane.

As we transition to the 3rd track of the album "Forgive Me," the album's pulse quickens. The track opens with a haunting, ethereal intro that quickly gives way to a pulsating beat and assertive bass line, setting a commanding tone. Y/n’s and Halle’s harmonies are immediately striking, blending seamlessly while each woman’s distinct vocal timbre adds depth and texture to the song. That is what y/n wants you to believe but the climax arrives with "Mary Magdalene" an electronic ballad that ties with the opening track “Cellophane.” For me "Mary Magdalene," is a standout, embodying the album's central themes. Drawing on the figure of Mary Magdalene, y/n reclaims and redefines her story, exploring themes of femininity, devotion, and resilience. The song's intricate layering and hypnotic rhythms create an almost spiritual experience, inviting listeners to delve into its complex emotional landscape. The production is haunting, with distorted synths and echoing beats mirroring the disintegration of trust and affection. y/n’s vocal performance here is raw and powerful, her pain palpable as she sings, "a woman’s touch, a sacred geometry. I know where you start where you end. How to please, how to curse.”

"TIDES" concludes with "Mirrored Heart," a poignant ballad that brings the narrative full circle, echoing the album’s opening. With an album so tumultuous listeners would probably wish for a sense of closure. This song does not give you that, rather you’ll be left questioning ‘what’s next.” y/n’s voice, both fragile and resilient, lingers long after the final note.

In "TIDES," y/n not only expands her musical palette but also delivers a profound and relatable story. This album is a testament to her artistry, marking her as a versatile, timeless and fearless force in contemporary music. It’s a disjointed album, songs sometimes seem out of place, but like the title “TIDES,” suggests, and given the situation that inspired the album, that is exactly the atmosphere y/n was looking to create.

I've been missing Jikook so very much and watching song edits, cause why not, right?

And Only then, that is one that is on repeat for me.

JK's cover of this song is so damn good.

And I'm sitting there eating my breakfast (tmi of the day?) and watching the edit and reading the lyrics again and it just clicks in my brain.

Obviously those lyrics and JK's choice to cover the song and his unbelievably emotional singing that just draws you in is not something new. This song meant something to him, way back in 2018. Let's not forget that he released his cover for White day 2018, surprise surprise. Yeah, White day. We know what he was doing on White day 2023...

March 2018, following Jikook's Tokyo trip. March 2018, when members were rethinking if, what, where and how to continue as BTS, as artists.

This one wasn't written by him, but it sure meant A LOT to him!!!

They meant everything back then in 2018.

But now. In 2024. Looking back at the two of them, and even more so at the last 3 years, these words, they hit me like a freight train.

Is it normal to have a journal dedicated to someone you hate? Whatever, I just need to get this off my chest. Whenever you’re involved, it’s like I could have nothing I want. It’s stupid, but I don’t care, it just pisses me off when you easily follow instructions, perfect things on your first try, and get all the awards I wish to have. I admit, jealousy consumes me. It's frustrating how effortlessly you seem to achieve anything you want without even trying. Seeing your achievements plastered all over the school only intensifies my anger, making me wish I could tear your posters into shreds. I've never despised second place more than now. Why can't I find contentment with my own scores or position, just like you? How can I remove you from my life and find peace within myself?

#2 – HOW CHEERFUL YOU ARE.

How is it possible for someone to remain so happy throughout the entire day? I can't help but wonder if you possess some magical influence over my friends, as they seem to shower you with compliments non-stop. It's weird to hear nothing but praise for you while I find myself complaining about various things. It's almost as if nobody comprehends why I harbor such animosity towards you, and this frustrates me immensely. Every time I express my emotions, they tell me to laugh and smile more, as if I don't already do it enough. But then, when I contemplate your cheerful and positive demeanor, it becomes clear why they encourage it. You're like the epitome of a model student everyone aspires to be, while I remain the perpetually angry and stubborn person. No wonder everyone wants to spend time with you, and perhaps that's one thing I can agree with others on.

#3 – YOU LIKE THINGS THAT I LIKE.

It's almost like a curse that we share the same interests. It's the reason I keep encountering you everywhere. Whatever I do, you seem to be there, expressing your fondness for the same things with your friends. It's frustrating, and I can't help but roll my eyes at the thought of encountering you even more. Even listening to music has become a challenge, as I know you like the same artists. I purposely skip their songs because they only remind me of you, and I hate being consumed by thoughts of you. I yearn to stop learning more about you so that I can enjoy the things I like in peace, without these constant reminders of you.

#4 – YOU MAKE ME OVERTHINK.

Maybe because of how perfect you seem to be in other’s eyes, I wonder how I look in other people’s eyes too. Am I that awful to hang out with? Am I always seen as this angry person who hates everyone? I’m not that, I know that–my friends do as well. But others? I’m not so sure about that. What confuses me even more is why you persist in wanting to spend time with me despite any perceived flaws or stubbornness on my part. You could easily choose to be with other people who might seem better to converse with. Yet, you continue to stick around, refusing to give up on our “friendship”. And because of this, I can see how others might form a negative opinion about me. My constant push to keep you away could be misunderstood, leading people to believe I'm simply a horrible person.

#5 – YOU LIKE ME.

I'm not sure if you have romantic feelings for me, but I can tell that you consider me a friend. It's interesting because I hadn't thought of you in that way before, but it doesn't seem to bother you. Today, you stood up for me, and it felt really heartening. Normally, I might have felt angry or vulnerable when someone defends me, but this time it was different. I don’t know, it just did feel really nice. Your quick response in telling those people to stop was captivating, even though I didn't express my gratitude at the moment. Lately, I've been struggling with the loud voices in my head, and sometimes I wonder if you could help quiet them too. But now, I'm not sure what I'm trying to convey. You confuse me a lot.

#6 – YOU GIVE THE WRONG PEOPLE SECOND CHANCES.

The other day, I saw you in tears because someone had broken your heart. I must admit, I was taken aback because I had never seen you sad or upset before. It was quite a contrast to the cheerful version of yourself that I'm familiar with. What happened to you that everyone sees all the time? I hope you had someone to tell you your problems too, as it’s not easy for someone who is your rival to be comforting you. What surprised me even more was that the very next day, you gave the person who hurt you a second chance. I can't help but wonder why you keep allowing people to hurt you when it's likely they'll repeat the same behavior, ultimately affecting your radiant smile. Stop going back to the people that hurt you once, it’s only going to be a cycle. Ever since that day, I always thought about it, so how could I let it slip out of my mind this time? I’m sorry for yelling at you today. I’m sorry for saying I hate you. I didn’t mean it, I was just extremely frustrated today, and not at you. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I know how saying this won’t do anything, but I truly mean it. I wish I could rewind time once I saw water fill up in your eyes, but what’s done is done. You made me realize something crucial—that I've always seen you as a rival, whereas you only wanted to be friends with me. I allowed my competitive nature to ruin our chances of a meaningful connection. I fear now that you might avoid me, and I understand if you do. I worry that I might continue to hurt you, just like the people you often encounter, who don't treat you with the kindness you deserve. What were John’s plans with Paul in 1980, what did he expect?

Energy: This was so heartwarming…like I really loved John’s energy here. I wanted to give him a hug 😭.

The cards start telling me about John trying to be as careful as possible, to be mindful of every action and word about Paul, because he was planning to get back to him. He tried his best to be as good as possible.

John thought a lot about being sure about his decision, but then he realised he wanted to be with Paul again, no matter what would happen. The thing is, what stopped John was the fact that maybe, Paul wouldn’t want more than work opportunities - to collaborate as songwriters, and for him it was more of a sentimental matter. Eventually he decided to give in to Paul’s proposal (I have read many times that they planned to work on Ringo’s album. I think that is true). For John it was a lot of effort to do this, but he really wanted to see him, to be near him, even when it was just because of work. But the true nature of his desires was to “be” with Paul. He took this chance because it was a great opportunity, even if it didn’t 100% satisfy his true desires. When the proposal was 100% confirmed, John felt so much peace. He felt powerful again, full of love. Time to time he would think of the past, the good and nasty parts, he would wonder why he would do this if he was through so much shit, but then he would realise how much they changed and grew, so this was a good decision. I think Yoko (or someone near with feminine energy) questioned him about this, but he really didn’t care (😭), he knew that he was “sacrificing” something to get back to Paul, but he was so sure about this guys…😢. It’s heartbreaking.

So yeah, in 1980 100% John wanted to be back with Paul. In any form.

What were Paul’s plans with John in 1980, what did he expect?

The cards start telling me about the feelings that Paul had for a long time and wanted to change.

Paul thought almost always about John, about how he lost him, because he had to have other things. For a long time he thought about everything that he had constructed, how that would tear into pieces If he really tried to be with John again. So he couldn’t reach him how he wanted, and that was torturing him.

So when he thought of changing that mindset, he, in fact, didn’t digest it at all 😭. It was like one day he was thinking about the beautiful things from the past and took the phone. In that feeling of happiness he proposed something to John, something that he regretted IMMEDIATELY. It was like this could go very wrong. But the “damage” was done. He initiated something. When he did this proposal, he didn’t realise that this was like a fuel to John, he only thought about trying to do this the most impartially possible, even when he thought this wasn’t very good because he wouldn’t be able to meet his own expectations (more of the sentimental, emotional type). So he tried to work very hard in making this experience a good one. He was very keen in writing these songs. Even when he knew they wouldn’t be like he wanted them to be (probably because they were Ringo songs?) but he knew anyways that they would be very successful. There was a part of him that was VERY excited for this to happen, but also very worried about Linda and the children. He thought about why he was doing this, then he would convince himself that it was because it was his job. He was going to be responsible. He was going to be impartial. He was going to follow the rules. But the other side of him knew what was going on, he was that expectant of this moment because he was going to see John, he was going to be near him, his mind would be sparkling with new ideas. But this would confuse him, this probably would lend him to “remember” that he loved him. And that was a very depressing thought. Because he was okay with Linda, so he thought that when that would happen, when he would be writing with John, he wouldn’t do anything. It would just be business. But he was scared of John’s “manipulative” moves, it’s like he knew if John would do something, he would “fall”.

Watching TOUR 22-23 PHALARIS DVD's for the second time.

(Just wanted to write down my thoughts and feelings from watching them, so nothing important here. My random notes for myself, never mind meeee. 😅)

TOUR22 PHALARIS -vol. I-

Schadenfreude is such a strong starter song. I'm dying to experience Oboro live on day. It's so good. 😢 And damn Toshiya is theatrical nowadays! 👀 (Does he practice in front of a mirror or something?)

After a very long break from Diru, watching Kyo feels different now. It feels like he's somehow more into it? I'm very impressed how someone whose skills as a vocalist and performer I already respected a lot evolved to be even better. I wonder if it's because half-assing never crossed his mind, and with that attitude one can evolve into a beast like this? Huge respect. Dance moves are the cherry on top of the cake. 👌

Ochita Koto no Aru Sora! 🤟🤟🤟 Very powerful. 🖤 I want to jump to this aaaaaa.

Somehow Shinya looks so light, almost like he's flying, even when he's hitting the drums like crazy. Since long ago I remember thinking he and Die have this... sense of lightness to them. 🤔 It's beautiful. I cannot explain it, but in Die's case it's that when performing he comes across more relaxed. I suppose it's something about his way of moving, posture, and all that. And face, of course. Kaoru, Toshiya, and Kyo have more of a heavy vibe to them on stage.

Mazohyst of Decadence is fucking impressive. Guitar gives me shivers. (Also, starting from this song Kaoru's face becames more expressive. 😊)

I'm always in awe how all instruments stand out in this band. 🤔 That's one thing I love about DEG; the balance. Everyone gets to shine.

T.D.F.F is such a great live song. I love how this makes the members move. (Is it packed with good memories? 😄)

Great encore songs; Itoshisa ha Fuhai Nitsuki (got me quite emotional); Gyakujou Tannou Keloid Milk, Stuck Man ("Oooosakaaaaaaaa" 👹😁); Clever Sleazoid. Ending with Ningen wo Kaburu! 🤩 Shinya in this one! 🖤🖤🖤

I just love to see how they end the last song; the epic drumming, Kaoru's fingerguns (or drumming??), Toshiya being rough with his bass, Die lifting his quitar up like THIS IS MAH GUITAR 😇🎸. Kyo just died. Thanks.

Stylewise, we got one semi-formal prince, one vampire, one gothic bullfighter, one flashy uncle, and one rock musician. (I love them all equally.)

@crimsalwaysawake my sibling in Orpheus x Dionysus, your asks have finally been answered. (I apologize for the wait.) And thank you for the brilliant questions. There were some really scintillating ones in here! 

3. Most common argument? 

One word, Apollo. Let's rub a bit Orpheus in that festering wound of brotherly rivalry shall we? 😅 I've already gone into the hows and whys here. So I won't repeat it.

But yes, the God of the Arts (and all round perfectness) is definitely the main hiccup in that extravagant, unbridled but at its core, harmonious love of theirs. 

If love is Orpheus’s life blood, then music is the heartbeat that pumps it. And no matter how much he loves Dionysus, adores him beyond all reason… I think he'd be just a touch too obstinate to give up the patronage of Apollo/ devotion to the God of his craft. Not the wisest of moves when it traps you in a tug of war between two notoriously antagonist brothers. Chaos vs Order/ Madness vs Reason. Thoughts and prayers Orpheus. And obviously this is going to play on Dionysus' natural insecurities about his worth amongst the Olympians. Especially when he's up against the glorious and golden Apollo for Orpheus’s n.1 god spot. 

Generally, I feel this would be more a cause of petty squabbles between Apollo and Dionysus, with Orpheus caught in the middle, then arguments between Orpheus and Dionysus. Orpheus was brought up in a polytheistic religion. His worship of Apollo (calling) and his worship of Dionysus (love) are two very different things and expected. Still, the gods are petty. And we can't deny Dionysus a few tantrums over having to share his favourite. Especially when it's the first time he's had love all his own. 

8. Nicknames? And if so, how did they originate?

I think with this couple, it's going to be casual and cute abridged names. Or odes of sweet nothings. As both have the tendency to go from 0 to 100 in minutes. 😅 

Day to day, I think you yourself came up with Orphe…(And just, the cuteness of Orphe! 🥹) Phe, Dio, D. Little nicknames used by themselves alone in that way loving partners often do. 

Deep in their truest hearts, Orpheus is Dionysus’s ‘Reason’ and Dionysus is Orpheus’s, well… If Riddy was his ‘Muse and Saviour’...Then Dionysus is his ‘Idol and Liberator.’ It's actually one of Dionysos’s ephipets, Eleutherius or Liber in latin meaning liberator/freedom. He who frees man from himself and deliverer of man from care and sorrow. It's an obvious nod to the effects of wine, but I think it's exactly what he is for Orpheus, especially following the events of season one. His liberator from sorrow. 

 17. Who says I love you first? 

Oh Orpheus. Most definitely Orpheus. The moment that man realises he is in love, I don't believe he has the capacity to keep that within himself. He's not a shy, self doubting person, this isn't a secret he's going to hoard. He's going to declare it on the spot like a vow. He's going to look Dionysus right in the eye and state with fervour, ‘I love you.’ Not a question, nor a request. But a declaration of devotion. I. Love. You. No matter whether the feeling is returned, know I love you. I think at Orpheus’s MOST subtle, he'd pour his emotions into song after song. Until someone literally has to point out to Dionysus, ‘He's singing about you. You know that, right?’ 😅 But I truly don't think Orpheus would be able to hold it in long enough to be a tormented artist. He'd NEED Dionysus to know. Him blurting it out in a moment of realisation at an awards ceremony would be more likely. Tell the person, tell the world is so on brand for Orpheus. 

On a more sombre note, I think Dionysus would be a little reticent about outwardly declaring his love for anyone after Dennis. Lest it act like a lightning rod for Zeus's ire. 😢
