I don't know any statistics, but I assume that economic class probably plays a role as well. My parents both have high school diplomas and both went to college (mom finished, dad didn't). But they were both raised poor and stayed poor as adults. They both smoked well into their elder years and only stopped for personal health reasons.

All of my siblings (young Gen X to mid Millennial) smoke or smoked in the past, despite all of them having high school diplomas and varying levels of college education. However, with one exception, we're all poor (and I'm the exception to smoking at all). My younger sibling, who has smoked the least besides me, is the one who has managed to rise above our original economic class. Most of our poor relatives smoke as well while our more middle-class relatives don't.

I'm sure that it's not a perfect graph, but I can see the logic.

I just had to share this email I got so all y'all can appreciate the absolute state of welfare services in Australia with me:

The NILs Loan Scheme is a government funded, no interest loan scheme for people on low incomes, but this leaves me wondering exactly who tf can qualify for their loans. Because it seems like if you have any symptoms of poverty it's a no.

I applied because I need the clutch replaced in my van, which I live in. It's lucky that I actually CAN afford the cost myself (due to living in a van & not participating in Australia's increasingly ridiculous housing market). I thankfully can afford such an expense these days & was just looking for a responsible financial buffer, just in case. But if this had happened to me a few years ago when I first became homeless and was far less financially stable, then my next living situation wouldn't be "affordable housing" it would be a fucking tent.

Anyway, the backwards ass state of a GOVERNMENT FUNDED welfare scheme refusing to assist those who need welfare the most because they don't want to encourage homelessness or whatever the dumb fuck? Just really rustled my jimmies tbh. Just screams "yet another govt welfare scheme that's actually just about handing out money to fake charities & not helping the poor". Good Shephard just got on the "do not donate to these grifters" list along with the Salvos😒

#MCtober2024 - Week 3 Amortentia Potion pt 1

Based on @lamieboo's #MCtober2024 event (click on #MCtober for more info).

Amortentia Potion To Sebastian, Iñaki smells like the following:

1: Freshly Brewed Coffee/ Hot Chocolate

Iñaki is known to drink some coffee -or as she likes to say it- café con leche in the morning. Not so much because of her American culture and using it to wake her up like her British peers like to assume, but more so because of her Latino upbringing. Her Latino-ness shows more when she is drinking coffee at night with a small roll of bread and cheese to eat. No one knows how she can sleep at night after drinking coffee in the evening. Sebastian is rather shock to hear she's been drinking coffee since she was a toddler. If Iñaki isn't drinking café con leche, she is mostly likely enjoying a cold Scottish morning or evening with chocolate caliente - not the American style of coco powder and hot milk, but from a chocolate tablet she brought from her parents' homeland and hot water.

When she is drink either café con leche or chocolate caliente it's one of the few times Sebastian catches Iñaki being still, content and happy at Hogwarts. The hot beverages' scents is something that makes Sebastian think of her. 2. Mellowsweet

If no one has what is the canon smell of mellowsweet, I would like to imagine it smells like a sweet citrus mint with a dash of chamomile...like a chamomile mojito. Iñaki is always up doing Merlin trials and sometimes drags Sebastian with her, so she always carries mellowsweet around with her. It's one of the smells Sebastian always associates Iñaki with since she always has it on her. Iñaki sometimes likes to chew on it for the minty citrus taste it leaves in her mouth so after the two do have their first kiss at some point in the future, all Sebastian could taste is mellowsweet.

3. The Beach/Sea Air

Iñaki misses home, especially the beaches she went to on Long Island. Often Sebastian would find her hanging out in the beach portion of the vivarium in the Room of Requirements and would sit next to her, just listening to the waves. Or she would ask Sebastian if he wanted to go to the coastal beach in Scotland, despite how cold it can get. The beach always makes her feel like at home and it's where she would spill whatever is bothering her or her life secrets to him without any pushing. There's just something about the beach that relaxes her. It's also where she is the most happiest whenever she feels down. Sometimes the two would just sit in the vivarium beach, listening to the waves splash, the seagulls flying and wheeling as they watch the sunset (this is one memory both would later use for their patronus - moreso Sebastian than Iñaki). The one constant all beaches have is the salty tangy air that reminds Sebastian of Iñaki

Currently reading - McShep fics. i just finished watching the Stargate shows and i fell head over heels in fucking love with Rodney McKay, so i wanted to read fics about him and ao3/the fandom was like "we have McShep fics, those have McKay" and since i did like that ship it felt easier to find Rodney heavy fics in the ship tag than to try and find them through the character tag. i did find lots of Rodney feels there, but i also found lots of John Sheppard feels, as well as a brand new OTP... x'D but it's nice. i like it.

Currently watching - catching up on Halo. i am very weak for that big boy in his fancy armor. (the decision to add a gif here was a painful one, because how do i choose between a gif like this one and one with the helmet on? oof. in the end Pablo Schreiber's face won because it's very expressive, but christ i love that armor)

Currently consuming - tea, though "consuming" is a stretch as i've only drank half the cup and the tea has long since cold xD

Currently craving - i'm getting hungry and i have food planned (and mostly prepared) that i'm gonna fix soon and tbh i'm just thinking about that, so wraps with pulled pork i guess.

okay I've decided against pursuing any sort of diagnosis re: my growing suspicions I have ADHD/something of that ilk for a variety of reasons, but it will NEVER stop galling me how I lack object permanence. like a baby. I need to have clear storage containers because if I cannot see something I forget it exists. it's both a relief to know that there is a potential "explanation" for such behavior but also realizing that most other people can do convenient things (like: remembering the existence of stuff) is also FRUSTRATINGGGG because I wish that was me! imagine being able to remember things not only casually but well! imagine that! god!

Does MaxRoy happen in all Roy verses, or is their meeting and getting close to one another only possible in some of them?

MaxRoy. These two will be the death of me. 

I can't say for certain if it definitely happens in all of them well, okay, I can, but shh, but I can tell you it always has the potential to happen. See, Roy and Max have very complementary personalities. It really does not take much for them to start getting along, so that’s not a problem. But, y'know, yeah, they do actually have to meet first. 

Forgive the following ramble, but I do want to share this thought: This is an obvious thing to say, but the events that take place depend entirely on the circumstances that surround them. Think of the Roylore as a sort of board, and the Roy stories as the consequence of placing and misplacing the pieces around it. There is, of course, the main timeline - the one where everything goes just right the way it was meant to and all the pieces are in place - and every other AU or variant is an offshoot of that. Sometimes that's because a piece was placed directly in the way or just out of reach (event variables), sometimes that's because someone swapped the control panel board with a game of snakes and ladders when we weren't looking (setting variables). 

My point is, a Max and a Roy will always be able to get together BUT for that to happen they both have to be at the right place, at the right time. And sometimes that takes a while. A real good while. I'm talking real good while. 

For example in, say, Glitch Roy's part of the Royverse it'd be difficult at the current point in the timeline for them to even meet, seeing as Glitch Roy is stuck in the immaterial static plane between reality and the simulation, and his Max is not - I mean it just wouldn't make sense for a Maxwell to be there, because getting there requires very specific circumstances and a case of particularly bad luck. By the time Roy gets back out it's been a good decade at least, but from that point on it's free game. However, if Max was around during the event that caused Glitch Roy to happen, it wouldn't have happened. For this reason, he simply cannot be there without neutralising the split back into the main timeline. 

On the opposite hand, something like The Drifter and its sequel (and here I go spoiling my WIPs again lol) wouldn't be able to happen if Max wasn't there, Max is the driving force behind the main event. Multiple events, even. He gives Roy and his son a place to stay the night as they're passing through town, he's the one who asks Roy if he'll come back (to burn that town to the ground) and he gives him the information he needs to go where he needs to be to get things done. If Max wasn't there, he wouldn't have stayed because he wouldn't have a place to stay, and if he didn't stay then the following chain of events wouldn't be possible. You know what I mean? 

So TL;DR: Yes, but at the same time yes. If given the opportunity, they will, but it can only happen at specific times without nullifying the direction of the timeline. So while the potential is always there, occasionally it has to be delayed, occasionally it has to be hurried up, in order to get to the point you want to get if it's outside the main timeline and setting.

I have a shitty refurb laptop that I bought for less than a hundred dollars on a New Egg sale a couple years ago. Do some people think that computers are only sold shiny and new? Or that poor folks can't receive them as gifts? Or that a computer, which can last many years, might have been bought before someone fell on hard times? tldr a computer in and of itself isn't a sign of wealth
