On today's informational on the cast of How to Cast Your Mana, I'll discuss Wilderin's mentor.

Upon arriving in town, wilderin was rather swiftly taken in by an Archmage by the name of Bane Arcan. Despite the name Bane is a rather kind older gentleman who's just as eager to help wilderin as he is to study him like a bug under a microscope, of course as much as wilderin will allow he takes care as to not overstep personal boundaries.

You may be puzzled though as to what an Archmage is in this world and simply put it's a title given to mages that signify that they're well experienced in this world's magicks and is able to perform spellcasting with expertise. Most Archmages go on to work alongside nobles, lords and even monarchs in the world's various kingdoms. Though those days are behind Bane as he's come to enjoy a more simpler life in the settings countryside town, where he can pursue his own interests, at his leisure.

Bane also has quite the large family mainly in having 11 younger siblings, and he's since estranged himself from his parents. Bane also has an adoring wife and 3 kids, twin daughters and an adopted son. He cares very deeply about his family and would move mountains and even kill to protect them.

But for now he's just wilderin's mentor, wilderin works under him as an assistant and most usually is out and about doing tasks for Bane which he is paid for at the end of the day. However this leads to some shenaniganry as most things do around wilderin and his magical curse.

◇ Signature Spell ◇

You're a Star!

Allows the user to grant a power boost to whoever they want. While in this state, the "starstruck" (the person with the powers) gains some of Reverie's powers. This spell lasts for 3 hours.

◇ Backstory ◇

Reverie was always an optimistic boy. He always wanted to help people, and this feeling only heightened when he enrolled at RSA. Since he was the son of the headmage, Rev thought that it'd be easy to spread hope to all, but he soon found out that his goal would be a lot harder to reach. During his first year, Rev found out that there were quite a lot of snobby rich kids who got into RSA. He tried his best to whip them into shape, but he was only scolded by his father. Soon after, Rev was taught to just stand aside. "People make their own decisions, and whether they're good or bad is up to them." His father said. Reverie only frowned. It felt unfair and wrong for all these mean people to be in a school for the heroic and kind.

Throughout Reverie's time at RSA, he was told time and time again to do nothing. To just step aside and let the adults handle it. Yet, Reverie refused to listen and made it his life goal to help the needy and learn to grant wishes. In his spare time, Reverie would study and study, hoping that he'd find a way to spread kindness throughout twisted wonderland.

Reverie's biology is very interesting, as well. He is half fae, and his energy comes from his "glow." It's a diamond shaped hole on his chest that radiates light. It's Rev's source of power and energy, and without it, Rev could possibly die. Along with this, Rev has freckles that glow when he gets embarrassed or extremely angry.

These strange traits made Reverie an anomaly amongst most faes, as powers like his never appeared in either of his bloodlines. He was a first of his kind in the Daydream family. Reverie's father said he got his glow from the stars as a gift, but Reverie still wants to learn more about himself and why he was born with this glow.

◇ Relationships ◇

♡ Malleus: Reverie and Malleus used to have a pretty strained relationship since everyone assumed the two were rivals, and Rev's father wanted him to be the ruler of Briar Valley. But Reverie had a lot of respect for Malleus, and while he was stargazing, Malleus got curious and decided to join him. The two became good friends afterward, and after a couple more meetups, Reverie decided to show Malleus his glow. Malleus became intrigued and decided to make Rev his sort of "test subject."

Neige: Reverie and Neige are very good friends. The two hang out nearly every day and even share their secrets with each other. Neige has seen Reverie's glow, and Neige loves it. Neige thinks Rev is the coolest for having such brilliant powers and being so kind.

Just curious on how it was while writing your story (since it reached such a character limit lol)

And I was wondering if you had any advice for those who wish to write a story like this? (Not the exact same, just how to write characters interacting lol)

🥀 An answer to a question:

It's been difficult— this year's NaNoWriMo didn't go even half as smoothly as last year! Midway through November, I decided to give up on reaching 50k words for the sake of my health. Things shook out in a way that I could take up the challenge again, but by then I had fallen behind on my target word count, and getting back on track was no small task to accomplish. But I've kept at it, and even though I don't like the way this draft is going as I write it, I don't need to. Rough drafts exist to be edited, not to be published! :>

My top pieces of advice when it comes to writing character interacting are to find a way to know how they think, know what they want (and sometimes what they're afraid of) in a given scene, and to give them more depth than the story you're writing explicitly requires.

To write character interactions well, it's important to know how your characters think as well as how they feel. Being aware of what makes them tick is something vital to making them feel like actual people as you write them interacting with others.

In Better the Wool, Narinder is extremely haughty and proud— it's a trait that he's always had, but sank into much deeper after his imprisonment, and defines a lot of his interactions. He looks for ways to boost his ego and will readily belittle others to do that. If you hurt his pride, he'll lash out in response. He always has to get the last word in an argument. He doesn't accept criticism well at all. Egotistical behavior is his bread and butter, and it's largely rooted in shame. He has to act like nothing is his fault, or if it is then it was justified, because it's how he distances himself from his problems. Knowing that makes writing him both in and out of scenes with other characters much easier, and also allows me to recognize that a scene where he strays from his stubborn pride and is undignified and vulnerable will need to have a significant reason for him to behave atypically.

The Lamb, where Narinder is defined by his pride, is defined by her need for control. She is desperate to maintain the peace and unity amongst her followers, and perceives any bump in the status quo as reflecting poorly on her own worthiness as a person. Her need to control people is rooted in a need to keep people around her, as well as herself, safe. She might delegate tasks to others on occasion, but it's a struggle that she only survives out of necessity. Her giving up control of a situation, or even worse, passing it off to someone else entirely, is a choice she would not make lightly, and that's something I keep in mind during every interaction I write for her.

On the subject of knowing what the characters want, knowing what they need in contrast is a great help when writing interactions. Even if Narinder doesn't accept that what he needs is to set his pride down and make amends instead of getting back the Red Crown like he wants, it's always going to be needling away at him in the back of his mind during every interaction he has. This is a method of character development I learned from K. M. Weiland's blog, Helping Writers Become Authors. If you want to learn more about writing a Want vs. a Need, I recommend checking her stuff out!

As for giving characters more depth than your project requires, I like applying this strategy to my OCs the most, but it's relevant in fanfiction as well. I like to think up all sorts of trivia for characters— their favorite food and why they enjoy it (one OC of mine likes brownies with a pretzel crust, but hates brownies without it, because he grew up on his dad's recipe using pretzels and thinks that plain brownies taste bland without it), their thoughts on different concepts like family being the most important thing in one's life (another OC is fundamentally baffled by this idea because her society doesn't have nuclear families and the children in it are raised communally, so it's like asking her if the city she grew up in is the most important thing in her life), etcetera, etcetera. It's a way to get into the characters' heads more and have fun while enriching your understanding of how they perceive and interact with the world around them.

if you could have any job you wish what would it be? idk 😭😭 i like parts of what i do but hate other aspects. i love psychology but idk what i would do with that (i don’t like dealing directly with people) and i have absolutely no science credentials so anything in STEM would basically require a lot of backtracking/catching up for me. which is unfortunate because my brain loves science and coming up with things but it also has adhd and struggles to function in most environments lmao. i also enjoy being artistically creative ofc but most things of interest in that arena are too chaotic like i cannot be doing freelancing or temporary positions and constantly dealing with that. so idk what the right balance even is for me atp LOL

you know what. since I can't draw ambitiously for shit rn you're getting rambling instead while I decide what to draw of some ocs (un-nucarni related)

I just like thinking of Euri's interactions with everyone too much. he's stubborn, but on the flip side for it, he's determined. he's naive, but hopeful; lazy but passionate. he's painfully nostalgic; and in a way, having lost his shrine and no longer going by his true name, "Matsuri", is a reflection of growing up and learning not to lose your inner child; but learning not to cling incessantly to grief & denial, either

on that topic, I think about his shrine very often 🌸. he only obtained his human form far after his shrine's ruin. it used to be frequently visited by the tribes though (or at least the nearest one), and it was a favorite of kids'. his existence as Matsuri was full of folktales. "the tale of matsuri", always something focused on learning to love or appreciate that which was around you, not to be greedy, how to cherish your whimsy or curious heart, etc. hes always been fantastic with kids. it was also probably full of plenty cautionary tales too, about how doing x will get you y, etc. he's a rascal to the fullest definition

once, a little girl visiting with her parents to pay respects wound up playing with him. he let her chase him a brief stint through some of the nearby trees, hiding in their limbs and hopping tree to tree until he heard their prayers finish. he led her right back to her parents arms, all while they laughed as she insisted of the "sunset tiger", the one that hopped through the trees and chuffed at her each time she found him. she promises too, he let her pet his fur; how soft it was, and how he nuzzled her temple and urged her on back to her family, only to disappear into the painted, pink tiger lilies engulfing the shrine.

stories like these probably constantly replay through his head. he spends his days now mostly with Quincy or Kuya, either at one of their cabins or (on the rarer occasion) Aster's mansion (though he's usually only there if Quincy has come to visit. I always imagine he'd not want to give up his duties to the forest so easily, and is more prone to visiting frequently than staying long-term outright). and when he can, he almost always accompanies Olivine to take care of or teach children. he's a natural at it; always giving the most outrageous voices to a story's characters, giving the most absurd traits to the lesson they're teaching.

"it's too boring if we just make them count these as are... but what if they're missing!? what if I lost them around the classroom, and, ah, little cubs..! help! I can't find my wood blocks! I can't remember how many I had! here, for every one we find, we'll count them together. I'll remember when we find the number! ack! how did that one get way up there!? here, here, come, come! I'll put you on my shoulders. grab it for me! I'm too small!"

of course, meanwhile, the idea of anybody else—Dante, Eiden,—calling him short? agh...!! he'll let it slide, but only because that smile on your face seems so genuine... b-but don't do it again...! or I'll .. bite you..!!!

anyways. on a similar note, I think he'd feel infinitely healed to be loved and appreciated for who he is now. he so constantly clings to the legacy of Matsuri, as if this celebrated leoger wasn't him. to hear the name "Euri!", to be called for food or help or even a scolding, he can't help but chase the sound of his name.

maybe... he doesn't have to be forgotten, after all. maybe a prayer, an offering, doesn't have to be something left at the foot of a shrine. maybe it doesnt have to be spoken before clapped palms.

I'm sure the sound of his name now does a lot to convince him he doesn't have to stay in that shrine. he doesn't have to be Matsuri, if that's not who he is anymore.

2. Favorite canon thing about this character?

Burgundy: I think just how different she is from a lot of other characters. And her complexity, too. Burgundy wears her heart on her sleeve. I love her snark, I love her ambition and drive (even if it’s rooted in a desire for revenge), and I love the subtle way the writers show her love for her pokemon. I just wish we’d gotten more of her, and I wish more of her rivalry with Cilan had been explored.

Cilan: He is unabashedly proud to be himself, even in places he probably shouldn’t. He gives 110% in everything he does and always seems to make things fun for everyone around him (the Mistralton contest, Tepig “court scene”, and movie episodes instantly come to mind). I love how he has so many fun hobbies and is super knowledgeable about a lot of things, and is continually curious to learn more about others and the world. I think that’s what makes him an excellent Pokémon Connoisseur.

6. What's something you have in common with this character?

Burgundy: Sadly, I think one of the traits I have in common with Burgundy is a negative one- but, hey, that’s life, right? I think we both have a lot of deep-rooted insecurities that have unfortunately landed us in hot water, either with others closest to us or even with reflecting on our own self-worth. This is something I’ve been aiming to work hard on, and I think it’s something she’ll eventually overcome, too.

Cilan: I think I’m easily excitable like Cilan is! It doesn’t take a lot to impress me, I love finding little details in everything and learning more about people and the world around me. I think also, due to my upbringing, I’m a bit similar to Cilan in terms of wanting to strongly follow my morals and follow the rules to a literal T. Sometimes I wish I could loosen up a bit about that though.

9. Could you be roommates with this character?

Burgundy: LOL, I honestly don’t know how that would go. I could see Burgundy getting easily irritated at little things, but I could also see us having a lot of fun together as roommates? I imagine we have similar taste when it comes to decor- kind of a shabby-chic aesthetic. And it would be fun to kinda just do life together and to live with someone who’s not afraid to be completely honest with me, for better or for worse.

Cilan: I think I’d be living in the lap of luxury if I were roommates with Cilan! I’m a pretty clean person but I have a feeling Cilan is the type that likes keeping everything pristine 100% of the time, so I could see him chiding me if there are a heap of unfolded clothes on my dresser or something. I’m sure he’d make some incredible food though (and of course I’d offer to help buy ingredients and help prepare meals and clean up), and I could see us having a lot of fun exploring our mutual hobbies and perhaps sharing them with each other, especially having movie nights!

21. If you're a fic writer and have written for this character, what's your favorite thing to do when you're writing for this character? What's something you don't like?

Burgundy: I think, self-indulgently, my favorite thing to do is explore all of her feelings about Cilan. In my mind Burgundy is all over the place with her thoughts, words, emotions, and actions, and admittedly it’s a lot of fun to put all of these complex traits onto paper (er, a document lol). But I’ve learned over the years that in the fic I plan to write, much of the development I want Burgundy to have has little to do with Cilan (although, like most rivals in the anime, Cilan is both a catalyst and eventual support in spurring her to be a better Connoisseuse) and more with her internal goal to decide if becoming a Connoisseuse is something she really wants to do, for the right reasons. I love the thought of her growing and maturing, even if it means having to go through a variety of obstacles first.

Something that’s really not my cup of tea in fic is just making her too nice(?) and too lovey-dovey when it comes to Cilan, or like, she confesses her feelings all at once and they’re together at the end of the chapter. I think their relationship is very much a slow-burn. People refer to her as one of the biggest tsunderes in the Pokémon anime for a reason, and it’s satisfying when I see Sommelier fics done right when she’s especially characterized well. I don’t mean that she has to be an asshole 100% of the time though. I guess I just feel like she, like Paul, and Drew, and Trip and others, they have the clear capability to show love and affection, but some characters need a lot of time and development to get to that point. That’s just my opinion and my two cents though- I encourage anyone who loves this character to write what they wanna write and characterize Burgundy the way they see her!

Cilan: I’m so excited to explore sides of Cilan we didn’t get to see in the anime. I have two scenes in particular that I’m REALLY excited to write, because it’s Cilan at his most vulnerable. I feel like Cilan- though we see him comedically emotional in the show in certain cases- definitely puts up a front and wants to maintain a mature stance with things and be the voice of reason. But Burgundy, and other factors, they’re catalysts that break down those walls, and I’m very pumped to explore all of that.

The one thing I have difficulty when it comes to writing Cilan? It’s HARD. I love using fancy words and phrases, but dialogue in general for me has always been a bit of a challenge when writing, so I hope I can do Cilan a justice when aiming to make him sound exactly as he would in the show and to showcase his character decently.

25. What was your first impression of this character? How about now?

Burgundy: If I remember correctly, it was a cross between annoyance and intrigue. I think Burgundy was sadly set up as an easy character for viewers to initially dislike, mainly because her debut centered around Ash and irrationally goading him to change his entire team of pokemon. But as time went on and she made reoccurring appearances in the battle club tournaments, she REALLY grew on me, and more and more I was hoping the writers would explore her history and rivalry with Cilan.

Cilan: Contrary to popular belief- because Brock is my absolute favorite character in the series- I actually liked Cilan a lot and found him incredibly entertaining! As much as I was heartbroken to see Brock leave after DP, I think it was a good move on the writers’ part, and I was satisfied with his conclusion of aiming to become a Pokémon Doctor. Cilan felt like a much-needed breath of fresh air, and I absolutely loved the dynamic he had with Ash and Iris. I just wish he’d been fleshed out a bit more, because he had immense potential, and unfortunately due to many factors the writers just decided not to capitalize on that.

For more details the characters find out during training because they are a new member and aren't expecting much because not much is on their file but then they absolutely dominate the arena

Even better if they/reader learned how to use the weapons and the only true thing that makes them an esper is that they can poof the item into existence

-so you just summon more weapons for him because why not

Their twin brother, Vanni! I don't know the specifics of how they find each other again, but I know Vanni would find a way. :)

Vanni will be a big part of how Velle settles into the world post-game. He won't care that Velle doesn't remember him completely, he's just overjoyed to have his twin back ;u; Plus, his magical talent is illusions and he has a passion for story-telling. #13. What hobbies or skills do they have? How long have they been pursuing them? Why?

Currently: Baking! Less tedious than cooking meals, and desserts are better than real food, anyway :P Mostly they stick to simple stuff. Sugar cookies, cinnamon coffee cake, etc. Things that'll pair well with their favorite teas~

Originally: Calligraphy. It's something their mom taught them growing up. Mama Morandi (gonna figure out her name later lol) runs a Magic Shop in Velle's home country, but instead of ingredients, she sells charms. So, she taught Velle how to weave spells into the paper and ink as they write. Enchantments to ward off fatigue or to attract luck. Pre-plague, Velle would leave these little notes in Asra's things before he left on a journey, for him to find later and to ensure his safe return. Sadly, it's not a habit they've picked up again after being revived. :c

#32. Does their use of/skill in magic differ from canon? How so?

Never, in any universe, has Velle had a talent for fire magic. So, unlike the Arcana MC, whose specialties are things like fire and healing and lockpicking, Velle has a more brute force approach to magic. That isn't to say they don't have great control, just that their greatest talent lies in overwhelming their enemies with deadly shards of ice or turning their bodies to snow.

They move to Vesuvia originally to study under their Aunt's guidance, because they wanted to learn to use magic constructively and distance themself from using magic as a weapon.

Asra (who is several years younger than they are) ends up with a sort of hero complex about them. Velle seems so powerful and invincible, this experienced soldier who can overcome any danger, and it's a comfort to have them around after Asra has spent so much of his life fearing the wicked Count and worrying for his dear firend, Muriel. This is why he has such seemingly-baseless confidence in Velle after they're resurrected. He's still got this larger-than-life version of them living in his head.

Hi, Quinn!! I've been getting back into making One Piece OCs lately and always appreciate a chance to talk about them! 😊

Meet Shriek! The bat mink lookout of the Kid Pirates. I wanted to give the Kid Pirates a mink because they're the only ones of the Sabaody crew trio to not have a fluffy crewmate, but also she was inspired by what we learned in the Zou arc about how minks are capable of fighting and using Electro from birth. So Shriek is 5-7 years old and was raised by the Kid Pirates since they found her as a baby in some caverns in the South Blue.

1. My favorite thing about her is how she's this blend of a fun-loving, hyperactive, curious, sweet kid and a gleefully vicious little beast who literally drinks the blood of pirates and marines and rains down red lightning upon islands to cause wanton destruction. She's the friendliest of all the Kid Pirates and it's through her that more of their soft sides are shown, but she's still just as violent as they are at the end of the day. Maybe even more so in some ways, since she's so in touch with her animal instincts. And based on the stories I've heard from some of my friends and co-workers who are parents, children already plenty feral so combine that with a werebat and you have a recipe for chaos. 😆😆😆

2. Her worst traits are what you would expect from a child- impulsive, stubborn, easily loses focus and wanders off, prone to tantrums at the worst times (especially with Kid as a role model). Also, since she doesn't interact with other children very much, her social skills aren't the best. I mean, her go-to way of making new friends is to give them presents of bugs and bones and offer to commit acts of violence on their behalf.

3. I first came up with the concept for her in 2018 and only started writing headcanons and little interactions between her and other characters this month.

4. I don't ship her with anybody for obvious reasons. Although when Shriek grows up and becomes the captain of her own pirate crew, the Leather Wing Pirates, her first mate is also her girlfriend. She's a hyena mink who I'm still planning out.

5. Her favorite foods are all the bat favorites; blood, bugs, and bananas. Her least favorites are broccoli and peppermint (the former because what kid doesn't hate vegetables and the latter's a reference to how peppermint deters bats)

He'd still be correcting things as he wanted, cause just cause you're a kid doesn't mean you can't learn or whatever, and he'd be very Kid about it. But I think he'd be surprisingly patient with kidlets.

First impression: i didn't think too much of him besides "cool ability" methinks? then started warming up to him properly when starting to learn abut his story + development.

Impression now: I love him so much,,,,,

Favorite moment: if I had to pick just one, I think it'd be the "the words of your past" sskk scene (I also adore the fight against Fukuchi but I'm still sobbing).

Idea for a story: aus aside, the whole "established routine at the Aku siblings place with Tachi and Atsushi being around often" is Very Tempting.

Unpopular opinion: as funny as the omake where he shows his salary details to Atsushi is... I don't really see how that could be seen as him being a big spender/classist even (and I've seen a bunch). Like, spending a ton in durable clothes I can see, but not idk, gold-coated food.

Favorite relationship: Gin and Atsushi, I don't think I have to say why. Also Chuuya, for obvious reasons too.

Favorite headcanon: from an rp plot, the Akus adopting a kitten (the one from that wan chapter specifically). Also trans gay Aku, and Gin gifting him one of those reversible octopus plushies that only gets angrier as an inside joke.

First impression: I had a bit of a softer spot for Atsushi bcs I liked his will to go on and how he remained kind despite everything, but he didn't got the Fav™ status till longer.

Impression now: one of my Faves™ from bsd and one of the characters I write about the most, I love him.

Favorite moment: same as Akutagawa bcs they mirror each other, and how he goes all the way to save Kyoka.

Idea for a story: I have a ton, but to add something new... I wanna tackle more my idea about him basically having religious guilt (since the orphanage looks like a church and there's the director's design too, etc) specially around sex (there won't be straight up smut but there'll be signs). Mostly bcs, I've done/I'm doing it on rp but hadn't really used it for fic yet.

Unpopular opinion: I hope it's not that unpopular but, pls, give this boy his sass. He canonically has it.

Welcome to my break down of the puppet master jutsu.

I've honestly got a lot of thoughts on Naruto. Mainly for my favorite jutsu. Needless to say I find myself b often trapped in the fantasy of my own imagination, unable escape from the dream of being able to one day perform the puppet master jutsu. Sadly, apparently this is a symptom of a disorder I have. Strange stuff, but on to my point.

The Puppet Master jutsu. What is it and how does it work?

First a brief explanation of what I come to believe is jutsu, explained through the Naruto universe.

Basically my understanding is that in the series jutsu is a combination of spiritual and physical energy that all living things have, but the ability to harness it was gifted to humans by the mixed children of an alien to help prevent that alien from seizing control through her monopolistic powers.

(This of course makes me curious about all the animals that seem to have ninjutsu abilities. This is just a side thought.)

Humans and I assume these aliens who now shared this chakra network could then mold and give form and shape the chakra in their bodies in order to create jutsu. Which by using different mental and physical hand signs they can form the chakra into different elements of nature or control things such as light and shadow itself. On a small scale.

What is the puppet master jutsu then?

This is actually a jutsu created in the land of wind. Due to lacking amount of soldiers and military might caused by a lack of food and supplies due to the infertility of the desert an inspired second Kazikage took it upon himself to learn and master my favorite jutsu. He was inspired by a guy putting on a puppet show.

By molding the chakra in his body the creator of the puppet master jutsu was able to project strings from his finger tips. These strings were then attached to an object on the other end of them and he could manipulate said object. (I've read that a few people refer to this as a crappy telekinesis) this would be used to attach 5 strings to a single puppets head, arms, and legs in order to bring life to a manikin based fighting tool which you can alter and manipulate physically to have any number of dangerous weapons to fight an opponent. So basically you become a long range weapon master. Mastering weapons that would normally even be a close range weapon at long range.

There are apparently a few weaknesses to the jutsu.

There is a time delay on the puppets actions.

Apparently as you manipulate this puppet it's not as much of a pulling on the string you with to manipulate as sending a signal for the puppet to respond to. This takes a minor delay to travel down the chakra string and reach your puppet for it to respond.

Even though this delay is minor I believe it's based on 2 factors. The length of the strings. And the speed of your opponent. Such as the yellow flash for instance.

Another issue is vulnerability. If you are controlling a puppet. Your focus is drawn which leaves you open to easily be attacked. There are a few ways I believe this can be resolved.

I believe what most puppet masters prefer is power in numbers method.

As you master your technique you become more proficient as with any jutsu used by any character in the series.

As you get better with the puppet master jutsu you need less strings to control the puppet. So mastery ends up leaving you with the end game of one puppet per string. That ends up being 10 puppets you can use to protect yourself.

As most ninja teams are three man squads however I feel this could still be very dangerous for you. Because even if you're not fighting the yellow flash or any Raikage. Who are known for speed kills. You're focusing on controlling 10 puppets and at least three enemies. That's a lot of things to divide your attention to as your trying not to be the proverbial sitting duck. Hopefully your team can pull their weight and you can just be the one guy and 10 puppets vs one other guy. Seeing as this technique was to bolster military might and not for sending ninja on one man missions.

Puppet armor. This is really like the situation with salamander or hiruko. Where your puppet is actually large enough to climb inside like a tiny Gundam or slightly bulkier suit of armor. This can potentially protect you from taking the full force of an attack.

The only down sides seem to be an increased blind spot and if the enemies technique is strong enough to destroy your puppet then what's stopping it from cutting through you as well?

All in all you might be better off without it unless you're fighting someone like Tenten. Weapons masters are awesome but I doubt season are getting through your armor unless it's made with that special metal that absorbs chakra and enhances it's strength like Asumas chakra blades.

Then there is stealth. As the ninja hides in the bushes his puppet flies around doing the fighting. Yes I said fly. Did I not mention these strings are holding the puppets in air. More on this later.

This is really some of what we see early on a Kankuro fights Shino. This is a nice fight. Really got me excited and I really enjoyed finally seeing crow/kurosu in action other than just going all Almira on a ninja. Which I still enjoyed. I personally would be horrified to see that face while getting a big hug. But I was left with more questions. I always wondered was that puppet carrying his body the whole time? Or was that just a substitution jutsu? More on this later as well.

This stealth issue is awesome as I believe it showcases a very real issue with inconsistency. Which the question for now is, can you see the strings?

The show really goes back and forth on this. In the fight with Shino no, Shino obviously can't. Otherwise hiding would have been useless and Shino could just see where the bright purple lines came from and ambushed him with bugs.

Plus the strings weren't noticed when crow was disguised as a Proctor, nor when Konkuro started his first match. Or even when he tripped Naruto when they first met.

In another fight with sand villiage anbu tryng to kill Gara, yup he sees those strings. His armor is even holding them back as two puppets attempt to strangle maybe even cut straight through Gara like a wire cutter.

At this point I'm thinking well maybe it's based on the amount of chakra and the strength needed for the puppet.

Then there was the famous sasori fight. Granny Chiyo started the fight with her kunai, using one visible string and then several invisible strings. Making them visible I assume to strengthen the pull back on Sasoris, or rather Hiruko's scorpion tail. Saving Sakura from the jab.

This was kind of an explanation. But felt cheap honestly.

Then there was the puppet master rematch with Konkuro and Sasori.

Konkuro attached his strings to Sasori's and literally pulled him off a cliff.

How the fuck would he even aim that shit. Even with all 10 fingers. It was pretty bad ass but there's no way in hell.

Travelling into the far future. In the Boruto series. It's the chunin exams. Sarada is fighting a puppet master who is nowhere near his puppet. Kids on the other side of the map, yet his strings were not perceived by anyone. No one saw them leading back to the kid at all. Until Sarada finally put 2 and 2 together she had to focus to see them with her sharingan and in the end guessed where he was. She didn't just make some distance and follow the strings back.

This is why I thing the signal delay of the technique is so minimal you don't even really notice. Because at the greater distance of a whole stadium this kids puppets stayed combat responsive enough to smack Sarada around.

So now the things I gather on this technique is that it's the best.

It can be utilized with minimal to no lag at great distances.

It can lift weight. It's a swole technique. People say 'but it can only lift wooden puppets that are smaller than people. '

Well fucker. It can lift wooden puppets that are actually larger than the person (Sasori and his third kazekage pupped, granny Chiyo and basically all of her puppets) and all their gear. These puppets are not held together with glue. They have a metal Skelton and mechanisms on the inside for custom weapons. Such as crows mouth impaling spear. Did you notice that mouth of metal? Plus all the blades, swords, knives, junior, senbon, stars, poison capsule, saws, grinders and what ever the fuck that met chest piece on the third mage puppet.

Let's not forget that if Konkuro didn't use substitute jutsu on his first chunin exam qualifier after the forest of death he'd have not just been lifting his puppet with invisible chakra threads but himself as well.

So yeah each string can then lift the weight of a full size puppet plus an undetermined x.

So basically I don't believe there is any reason why a half decent puppet master can't just be spider making his way anywhere and everywhere better than spiderman due to the advanced manipulation of the strings themselves.

I also believe if a puppet master jutsu user wanted to control you. There isn't shit you can do about it.

You'd basically be an action figure for them to impale using their action figure of choice.

Some people if you read this far may be thinking. No they can't control you. Sasori controlled multiple soldiers in full armor. Against the weight of gravity.

Yeah. The only reason they got him was because at that point the writer was all. You can see the strings this time. Hahaha.

Originally chakra wasn't something you could see unless you manifested the element. I assume puppet master jutsu has no element and this is element less which is why invisibility would be a thing.

Otome Reader with Dateables too? Maybe a platonic Luke in there as well? Not sure why he'd play an otome game, but maybe he just watched someone else and got secondhand enjoyment from it? Maybe Simon wanted to join in but still lacks phone knowledge so he asked Luke's help? Just an idea for that part. I love the bizarre thought of even the stern lads playing and simping for an otome character. It's such a fun thing to think about. Also makes me think "what if sentient" but that'd be for another time.

๑DIAVOLO

When he realizes that some of Lucifer's brothers play and enjoy the game, looking at Asmodeus and Leviathan, he's quick to download the game and give it a try.

He's confused, and doesn't know what he's doing since he has never interacted with games, let alone otome games. He does some searching around the internet and asks Leviathan for his expertise, and after a while he understands and is able to play!

He doesn't immediately flock to your character, and probably has someone else as a 'favorite' for a while. He probably didn't like a specific character much, and just enjoyed the game play and plot.

Probably some small interaction in an event catches his attention to you, and he starts digging more into your character. He's quick to find he really likes you, and from there on you're the Devildom prince's favorite character!

Whenever he gets extra lonely, you're a go-to for comfort. He doesn't really have anyone, and here you are, loving him unconditionally. He gets depressed sometimes, at the realization that the only person who will ever love him isn't real at all.

Well, whatever. He doesn't have much luck with your cards, but he is rich and just buys so much to get the cards. He doesn't have luck and it could take him nearly an hour to get the card, but his money comes in handy!

He gets foods, or items similar to what you like in the game, to feel closer to you. He also, just like Lucifer, sends large donations to the game company and your character's voice actor.

Uses the game to ignore his duties as Prince, much to Barbatos' annoyance.

Also, you and the plot for the game is probably what inspires him to do the exchange student system.

๑BARBATOS

After a while of Diavolo repeatedly skipping his duties in favor of a game on his phone, Barbatos naturally gets curious on what's got his young prince so excited and restless. Of course, he already knows the name of the game and the character Diavolo likes, so he has no problem finding the app and downloading it.

He spends most time with you, but not because he likes you, but because he wants to see why his young master is so excited about your presence.

He's probably the slowest to like you, or the game for that matter. He doesn't have much time to play, and it didn't really catch his attention much? He's much more busy trying to get Diavolo off of the game so he can study..

After a while, Barbatos gets used to the game being on his phone and playing whenever he has free time. He gets involved with other characters when he starts doing it less out of curiosity and more from enjoyment. He does end up returning to your character, after getting to meet the others better.

He most likely gets an aesthetic card from you, which makes him study your character more. After getting to know your past more, he comes to learn that you're his favorite. He knows now why everyone is so infatuated with your character.

He is the only one who knows that Lucifer plays the game, though Lucifer doesn't know that he knows.

Barbatos plays any songs that have you involved while he works, or he'll play phone calls he has whenever he's busy, he finds it makes him feel a little less stressed. Or just makes things better.

He makes food based off of your character. Decorates and makes cakes and other pastries to your liking, drinks and dishes that are themed around you, you name it. He finds it very fun, and if you have a canon favorite food he's sure to make it as often as he can without making it weird. His young master is always delighted!

He, again, doesn't have much free time so he doesn't have many of your cards, but whenever there js one he really likes he's always lucky and gets it. It's a bit scary how lucky he is with cards pulling, actually. He usually gets what he wants on the first try, often on the free pull.

๑SIMEON

Everyone was talking about the game so much, and while Simeon wasn't actually planning to play it, Asmodeus and Leviathan managed to convince him, saying it was one of the 'best games out there' with some of the 'best characters out there' and it would surely 'give him inspiration for TSL'.

Simeon ends up giving in, and downloads the game. Much like Diavolo, he is very confused and Leviathan and Solomon spend a lot of time trying to show him how the game works. He still doesn't quite get it, but he's having fun so it's alright.

Depending on how you are, and how the other game characters are, Simeon might like you really quickly, or take his time. I don't doubt he'll eventually dub you his favorite, but the characters around you are what decides how long that takes.

He has horrible luck with cards, and he can never really get the cards that he wants, which makes him feel a bit sad, but that's alright! You know what he is good at? Getting money and gifts for you, as well as leveling up his intimacy with you. Out of everyone, he has the highest intimacy levels, despite not being very good at the game.

This makes some of them jealous.

He doesn't really know what's going on majority of the time, but you best believe he makes a character inspired by you, and writes fanfiction to further indulge his affection for you.

He feels a little ashamed with how much he values a fictional character, but nobody has said anything about it, so it must be fine, right?

๑SOLOMON

Solomon was probably one of the first who was playing the game out of everyone, so he takes joy in gatekeeping the others, saying how he has been playing longer than them, so he knows you better! Of course, it's only for fun but watching how upset Satan is makes everything worth it.

Will make outfits that are inspired by you, just lien Asmodeus does. Hell, maybe he makes some with Asmodeus! He does try following Barbatos, too, but everyone whines that his food is horrible so he keeps his dishes to himself. He bets that you would have loved his cooking!

He does join Satan when Satan has a theory on Lucifer playing the game, and they're both now investigating Lucifer on whether or not he knows you and the game or not. They have nothing solid yet, but just you wait! They're getting there.

Solomon loves whenever you give him a gift. He might try to find an IRL item that matches what you gave him, to feel better! You're so cute, even if you aren't real.

He spends a lot of time trying to help Simeon understand what he's doing, and is amused to watch Simeon fall for your character too. Really, he enjoys watching everyone who is open-ish about being part of the MC fan-club that's unofficial so far.

He has on various times bribed the others with merch of you, and he is as successful each time even when they whine about how 'unfair he's being'. Solomon isn't upset.

Solomon hoards your merch like a dragon, he has almost all of it. Who needs cards when he has your merch. He is also absolutely the type to give donations to the company or your voice actor, or things you liked whenever he can.

He often imagines going on cute or elegant dates with you, just you both forever. He can be seen daydreaming quite often, making potions through muscle memory. He doesn't mind, at all.

When Morax, now Zhongli, first told Xiao of your situation, he didn't really get it

A star that fell from the sky, which came from another dimension, is now looking for a way back while unknowingly and unintentionally helping save their world? It sounded way too absurd for the yaksha

But your actions stunned him more

The first time you came to Wangshu Inn, you left a plate of Almond Tofu on the balcony of the roof at night and just.. Left

And you continued to do it during your stay at the inn

From what he heard, Zhongli himself has offered multiple times to house you, even the Liyue Qixing has offered because of you (unintentionally) helping them with Osial

But you wouldn't relent, you almost had to beg them to let you stay at Wangshu Inn. In the end, you succeeded, and you've been staying at the inn since then

Xiao has been watching over you. It's because he's curious about your strange origins, and to protect you, is what he says to himself

His interest in you only increases as you continue cooking the Almond Tofu yourself (when did you even learn how to cook it?) and placing it on the rooftop to be taken by him. He only takes it to avoid having ants infest the roof, is what he says to himself

It's been a routine of sorts. You come up with Almond Tofu, leave it there and go back down to lock yourself in your room. Xiao would pick up the Almond Tofu and eat it, feeling all the more lonelier than he did before you arrived

That routine was broken one day, when you offered the Almond Tofu as per usual but stayed

You stayed

You stayed and stared at the scenery below, plate of Almond Tofu balancing on the rails of the balcony. The back of your figure looked cold to Xiao, and the change of routine made him question what happened

Still, he jumps down to the roof, silent footsteps approaching you before taking the plate just as quietly. The only sounds to be heard were the plate and utensil Xiao was holding

From the corner of his eyes, he saw your lips twitch upwards just a bit

He also saw how empty your eyes looked

You took a deep breath, bowing to him without even meeting his eyes, and left

Once again, he felt more lonely than he did before you arrived. His grip on the plate went tighter, the sweetness of the Almond Tofu tasting.. Sad. Perhaps it was the emotion you felt while cooking the said dish. Perhaps it was the emotion you felt while overlooking the view of Wangshu Inn

Sadness

It's the emotion he's felt from you ever since that day. The new change to your routine only further piqued his curiosity. Why? Why do you continue to come up here and give him a dish of his favorite food even though he feels your sadness? Your emptiness? Your despair?

Why do you continue to smile after he eats your Almond Tofu? For every night you've come, your lips always twitch upwards knowing he ate your food. Why does it make you smile? And why does he feel more motivated to eat it knowing that fact?

He's isolated himself from the company of humans, he's isolated himself from their warmth, from the things humans enjoyed

It's dangerous to be around him

Yet you stay, you smile and you don't bother him with useless chatter

The last part almost saddens him. Almost

You're comfortable around him. Comfortable enough to cook for him, comfortable enough to stay with him, comfortable enough to smile at his presence

Comfortable enough to.. Cry?

You were crying

It was silent, and he would've missed it had he not reached for the plate of Almond Tofu

Tears were cascading down your face. You were biting your bottom lip as if to stifle your cries. Xiao wasn't even sure if you were breathing

He unconsciously steps closer, hoping to offer at least a tiny bit of the warmth you've been offering him these past few months

After a few more minutes of silent crying, of stepping closer by an inch, hoping to calm you down, Xiao finally opens his mouth

“I.. I can listen.”

That's it. That's all he offers. He didn't offer any comforting words, any warm hugs, anything that may be of value to help battle your agony

But those three words allowed you to breakdown. Those three words had you releasing your cries, had you gripping the rails hard to stop the emotions bubbling up, they had you completely and utterly vulnerable

Then you were laughing, a self deprecating form of laughter. A type of laughter Xiao is very familiar to, yet he aches when he hears it come from you

“I should be happy,” You start off, and your shaky voice wounds him. “I pushed away all my friends from the other world, I was distant with my family, and I love this world so much. I wished everyday to come here, to come to everyone here. I wished everyday to just leave.”

Xiao stayed quiet even as you struggle to breathe. He only offered to listen, he's scared that touching you in any way, shape or form could do you more harm than good. His eyes stayed strained on the moon, not daring to look at your crumbling form. Eventually, you calmed yourself down enough to speak again

“All I did was spend my time wallowing in my own self pity, all I did was push everyone I loved away, all I did was isolate myself,” The words hit Xiao harder than anything ever did, and he had to bite down on his inner cheeks to stop himself from feeling the emotions he was feeling. “I isolated myself. I felt lonely. I felt like I didn't belong. But why–” You laugh again. “Why now? Why am I looking for a way back? A way home? I have a family I care for here, I have friends here, I have you.”

Those words had his gaze slide over to you. You had.. Him? Why him specifically? It's true he's not close enough to you to be family or a friend but why..

Why did it feel different?

“Xiao.” His mouth slightly opens at his name leaving your mouth. The name everyone calls on a daily for help. The name that he's heard so many times. It feels different coming from you. It's deafeningly quiet, it didn't sound like a whisper from the wind, it didn't even sound pretty, what with the way the cry left your vulnerably body

But the fact that it came from you made the difference so large to him

“Xiao, I feel lonely,” You laugh again. “I'm surrounded by all these people and yet I've never felt more lonely in my life.”

He knows how that feels. Being surrounded by a crowd and still feeling like nobody's there. Feeling invisible in a world full of people. He knows how it feels to be isolated and knows how hurtful it is

Why are you going through it?

Why do you have to go through it?

You finally plop down on the roof, tears staining the wooden floor of the balcony. Xiao sits next to you, legs crossed and empty plate of Almond Tofu sitting on the space in front of him. He doesn't do anything to comfort you as your tears run out, he doesn't make a move to hug you or pat your back. He doesn't give words of wisdom or words of warmth

He just stays

And even as the sun rises, even as the residents of the inn starts waking up and busying themselves, he stays

He stays until your eyes shut down, until your cries quiet down and your body tilts

Only then does he move to touch you. His arms wrapping around your torso, carefully adjusting your body so he could carry you with the gentleness a murderous yaksha like he could muster

He disappears and reappears in your room, laying you down on the bed. The sight of your disheveled form just laying there hurts him more than he'd like to admit, and he doesn't even know why

He disappears again, wanting to just leave you to sleep in peace. But the empty plate has him thinking of an idea that past him would laugh at

He wishes he spoke to you. He wishes you two were closer. He didn't even know your favorite dish, he could merely guess. He felt unsure as he left the dish that came from Wanmin Restaurant at your bedside table, carefully wrapped in a box that would help keep it warm. Should he just leave this here? What if you throw it away without knowing what it was and who it came from?

He picks up a spare pen on your vanity and rips off a small pieces of paper from a notebook, writing down words that he had to rewrite a couple of times with more than a few pieces of paper, before placing the final letter next to the wrapped up dish

This would be enough for a compensation, would it?

He looks at your sleeping form again. The morning sun looked just as beautiful on you as the light of the moon does

He hesitates before reaching out a hand, wiping away at the still wet tear tracks on your cheeks. With a quiet voice, he says the second line he's ever said to you in his entire immortal life

“I.. Will be here.���

When you wake up later in the day, smiling at the letter and happily eating the food he left you, you feel much less lonelier than you did before you arrived here

‘Thank you for the food. Have this as compensation.’

And so does he

It Feels Like Today

This is my first Writer Wednesday, but seeing this picture reminded me of a daydream I had and I needed to get it out of my head.

Pairing: Marcus Pike x Short, Baby Faced F!Reader

Warning: age gap, flufffy fluff, noticing and liking body changes, mistaking people with baby faces to be children, singing in Japanese

Summary: Marcus Pike has been living in D.C. for a few years now and loves his job and his life. Success at finding someone to share his life with has been non-existent. On the brink of giving up, he runs into you while on vacation, visiting your sister. Not wanting to dive in too soon or too fast, he takes his time with you. He just wants to get to know you and be friends… maybe.

A/N: This is very much a self-serving fic. The reader character is heavily inspired by me, but I still tried to not include a physical description. I hope you like it. If you're curious which song is being sung, it's Karano Korono by Anly.

Sequel: It Feels Like Forever

Marcus is more than positive that this all looks a little weird. What with him being in a suit and tie, and you in your cute little pleated skirt that's honestly getting a little too short for you these days. Not that he minds, of course. He knows it's because your butt has been getting bigger. You told him that, but what he won't tell you is how much he likes it. No, this all looks weird because you look like a little girl compared to him. Without any context and from the right angle, you could easily be mistaken as his daughter. He can't find it in him to be upset by this though.

When you first met he had mistaken you for a child. Your everlasting baby face and short height weren't helping. You had been wandering around the Smithsonian in your beaten up Chuck Taylor hightops, a pair of cargo shorts, and a Star Wars graphic tee with a cute little backpack to boot. He had been worried you had gotten lost and were trying to find your parents, so in true gentleman nature he asked if you needed help. To which you answered with a question.

"How old do you think I am?"

Marcus wasn't sure if he paled or blushed at your question. Suffice to say, he was surprised to learn you were twenty four. To apologize, Marcus offered to be your own personal tour guide for the rest of your time in the museum and for any others you might visit. You accepted his offer, wanting company more than anything because "moments are meant to be shared" as you would say. A quality of yours he's grown to deeply admire.

It is on your tour that you surprise him again. You don't know everything about every piece, but you have a broad knowledge of a lot of things between the different installations. Curious to pick your brain, he asks you to dinner. You decline for the night. You already had plans to have dinner with your sister. However, you brightened his spirits by agreeing to meet the next night for dinner. Marcus gave you his phone number and planned where to take you. A difficult task given he didn't know much about you at the time. A task he nailed though when he took you to his favorite Italian restaurant.

That was all a week ago. By now, he knows your favorite colors, food, music, and hobbies. You hang out as much as possible. You're always mindful of his job; reminding him to get some sleep, to eat better, and relax. He knows you have another week here in D.C. and he'd be lying if he said he didn't want you to stay. You've become a kind of bright light at the end of the dark tunnel he seems to have found himself in. All of his other relationships have ended amiably, if not poorly, since his engagement to Theresa. Not one of them got that far since it ended. There's something about you though. Not to sound like a Jane Austen novel, but there's something in your air that he can't get enough of.

Perhaps that's why you're here together now, walking under the famous cherry trees of D.C. as they bloom. You had told him how much you wanted to see the blossoms and who was he to deny you? Once you had arrived, Marcus' favorite part of you so far revealed itself. Upon seeing the flowers, you smiled and opened your lips. From there you began to sing in Japanese. The song title slips his mind every time you sing, but he knows it's one of your favorites. The music from an anime he hasn't had the time to watch for himself. It doesn't really matter to him though. He loves how much you love culture. You know and appreciate so many different cultures he's surprised you can keep them all straight in your head.

He watches as you spin around singing. Your pleated skirt picks up a little from the motion, showing off your kitten stockings. Your oversized baby pink sweater holds it down just enough that you don't accidentally flash someone. Your platform loafers drag against the cement as pink petals adorn your hair. The warm sunlight gives you an ethereal glow as you continue to serenade the trees. Yes, anyone could mistake this moment for a father taking his little girl out for a walk among the cherry trees, but Marcus doesn't care. In this moment, your beautiful voice is soothing his aching soul and you're reaching out to him to dance. Taking you into his arms, he embraces your frame. You sway back and forth, not a care in the world. His worries of your departure from him melt away. If only he could have this moment forever. Why can't every day feel like today?
