Not to get all preachy here but i think this could stem from the really harmful media analysis we're taught in school, which often has us answer questions like "if you were the protagonist in this situation, what would you do?"
And something i read in a post elsewhere really stood out to me, in response to that question - what does it matter what *I* would do? And what I would do is entirely dependent on whether I only have the lived experiences and memories of the protagonist, or if I only havr my own, as the reader.
Because if i only had the protagonist's experiences and memories, I wouldn't know I'm a character in a book (or horror movie). I wouldn't know what genre I'm in. I wouldn't know that this camping trip in the woods with my friends is going to end with all of us dying. It's just a camping trip. And we're teenagers having fun, being silly, and how were we supposed to know the evil tome had a real genuine curse on it? If this is the case, asking what I would do doesnt matter, because my lived experiences speak to what choices I'm going to make, and as such none of the choices I make will be different.
But if I have only my own memories as the reader to make my decision with, that's also a useless question to ask. I know things as the reader that the character never could. Like I mentioned before, I know that this is the horror genre and people are going to die. So obviously I can sit back and think of all the perfect ways to win, the perfect flawless ways of surviving. But that wouldn't be very satisfying, narratively, would it? There's no plot without struggle and hardship. There's nothing satisfying about winning too easily. That's not the story the author wants to tell, especially in horror stories.
But all we're ever taught in school is "what did the character do wrong? How would you do it better?" Instead of the actually meaningful questions such as "what message was the author trying to convey? How can this message apply to your life? Is this message even aimed at you in the first place, or is it aimed at someone else? Did the author successfully convey their intended message?" Questions like that.
And that's doing us a disservice in all media, all across the board. For example, if a character does something you would never do, because it's a Bad Thing To Do, the character is problematic! Because I, an upstanding citizen, would never do that! Forget the fact that the character is still going through character development at this point. Forget that the character's background led them to make this decision, and they thought it was the right one at the time, when it wasn't. Forget that the author may be setting up events in the future or trying to teach a lesson or trying to show that someone who does such things is still a human being and can still be a sympathetic character even if they mess up...
Anyway, I'll get off my soap box now, this is just what this post made me think of. To go back to the original post, if you dont want to see a story about horror protagonists falling victim to circumstances out of their control, and would rather see a cute romance, go find yourself a cute romance to read instead. If you want to see protagonists making all the right decisions and overcoming all odds, go find a story about that instead. This is a horror movie. And in horror movies, people make stupid mistakes, because they don't know theyre in a horror movie. Go find something else to watch or read
people are so mean about horror movie victims like. sorry but if i had gone to a cabin in the woods with my friends as a teenager you couldn't have stopped us from reading aloud from the evil tome. how were they supposed to know the ancient curse was real they're like 17

FAVE ANON HERE đ
Itâs been a minute since Iâve submitted but after the vitriol I have seen on Twitter this weekend, I felt the need to speakâŚ
First things first, all of us are brought here with one definitive common thread - we are all fans of Bridgerton. If we were not, we would probably not find ourselves in this fandom at all.
With that being said, if youâre on this blog you are probably a fan of both Nicola AND Luke. More than likely, you want them to be together romantically or believe they already are. And if you donât want any of that, I donât know why youâre here reading this posts. This is how you become a troll.
You are allowed to be a fan of one and not the other. This is not a dictatorship and no one is holding a gun to your heads. But this is the point where it is VITAL for me to remind you how many times Nic and Luke have a real love for each other and at the core are best friends. WHAT THIS MEANS IS you cannot call yourself a fan of one of them while simultaneously spreading hate and contempt and overall nastiness about the other one all over social media.
Now I have approached the topic of the RUMORED insignificant others. Did you know that there is no general rule of fandom that states if you are a fan of a character performer that you must also become a fan of any performers they may date now or in the future? WHAT THIS MEANS IS THAT no one is required to become Jakeâs #1 fan just because the rumor mill wants to say Nic is dating him. Hell no one has to become his #1 fan if Nic herself came out and said she was dating him. Again, there is no need to speak with malice about his looks or his talent all over the internet but you do not have to be a fan. Same goes for the dancer who shall not be named (I know itâs a trigger for many around here). And if they act in deplorable ways - such as the dancer has displayed in the past - you are allowed to speak out on it while using decorum.
This is ultimately bringing me back to why I wrote this today. Tell me why Iâm seeing tweets talking about how Jake is a more successful and more talented actor than Luke. Tweets saying Luke canât act and how amazing Jake is. These tweets are from Bridgerton âfansâ. These tweets are from Nicola âfansâ. Based on everything Iâve written up until now, the math ainât mathing on the word âfanâ.
Iâm not spreading hate to Jake. Fact of the matter, heâs a 24 year old kid almost fresh out of drama school. He has had one season of a failed show on a streaming network riddled with failed shows. He now has a small part in a movie that probably is not even recognized yet out of this fandom and extreme movie fans - if weâre being honest. Luke is 31 and is on his 4th season of one of Netflixâs top shows. He was the male lead last season and the season broke records. He was on a Disney channel show when he was younger. He was on multiple stage shows on the West End. Heâs had many other roles in smaller projects and just picked up a lead role in a new film. While it is considered an independent film, it is a LEAD role.
With that evidence laid out, how can anyone actually say with their full chest that Jake is the better and more successful actor? Oh right they canât. What it comes down to is the fact that the âJakola shippingâ movement is not based on anything more than being an Anti-Luke Newton movement and it is GROSS. No matter what they tell you, there was no ârelationshipâ being universally talked about prior to late summer. On August 25 those festival pictures were released and some very twisted narcissistic people in this fandom took them and ran with them. They created a narrative to help dictate what and who people in this fandom are allowed to discuss online. Theyâve bullied creators off of TikTok and Twitter and gaslight the hell out of everyone when called on it. A 24 year old gay man (OMG I SAID IT) is being bullied on the internet and the blame is fully being put on âLukolasâ when the truth is that no one would be paying any attention to him if this narrative wasnât perpetuated in the first place. (Side note: if youâre sending hate to Jake on behalf of being a Lukola, please stop. Please treat him like you treat every other one of Nicâs male friends. No one should be getting hate.)
The majority of the hate and toxicity in this fandom stems with the Jakolas Jackholes and those who blindly follow and defend a certain creator. Iâm not going to say her name because I know how much she gets off on people talking about her (even when itâs bad) AHAH. This is the shit that everyone else is afraid to say out loud but itâs true. And for those of you in that discord reading this to report back, hiiii!
Oh and if anyone has a problem with this and wants to call me out for being on Anon, let me know and Iâll DM you because Iâm not afraid. Iâm grownup.
Xx
Finally seeing people with common sense!
My fave anon pulls through yet again.
Everyone say thank you fave anon.

Steve knew that one day he wouldn't be able to refuse to play dnd.Â
Especially since he was now dating a dragons master or whatever it's called. He can't keep up with all the names.Â
And don't get him wrong Eddie is great and dnd sounds sort of interesting but he's been against playing for so long he doesn't want to give up the act.Â
But he if was going to give up the act he was going to get something in return.Â
The kids were all gathered at Steve's house for a movie night.Â
They had 2 different kinds of movie night, one where they all actually watched movies and the other where the movie was just there for background noise while everyone either talked or worked on something.
Tonight Mike, Will, Lucas, and Dustin were making character sheets for Eddie's new campaign while trying to get Steve to join as well.Â
"Just play one campaign" Dustin whined for the 20th time that night. And probably the 100th time in his life.Â
"Are you ever going to let this go?"Â
"No! You have to play one now that you're dating Eddie. Aren't couples supposed to try out each other's hobbies?" He got him there.
"He's got a point Stevie," Eddie says finally engaging in the conversation after being glued to the TV. Despite the volume being low he was still watching it with intense interest.Â
"You're right, couples should try each other's hobbies" Steve agreed.Â
"Uh oh," Robin says without looking up from the puzzle she was going with Nancy, knowing what he was going to say next since he ran his plan through her first.
"I will play a campaign but!" He says before the kids could get too excited, "you all have to play basketball with me"Â
They all groaned. Except Lucas who was completely fine with this arrangement.
-
It was Saturday and they were all at basketball court in the park. Most of them were wearing their gym clothes.Â
Except for Lucas and Steve who actually had basketball jerseys.Â
Max and el were also playing since they wanted to join despite the fact they won't play dnd either.Â
And who was he to say no to them? The more the merrier.
Robin and Nancy were sitting at the bench in the shade, Robin saying she refuses to play a sport because she's too clumsy and Nancy saying Robin shouldn't have to sit alone. But Steve knows they just want to talk shit about them.Â
He wasnt going to stop them, he knew it was a lost cause to try to get them to join as well.Â
The only rule they had before playing was that Steve and Lucas couldn't be on the same team, 'it wouldn't be fair' Dustin said and everyone else agreed. Even Robin and Nancy.Â
So they ended up being the team captainsin on each team.Â
Steve's team was Max, Mike, and El while Lucas had Will, Dustin, and Eddie.Â
And it was going well! Better than Steve thought it would. Especially with how unathletic most of them were.Â
Steves team was winng, and despite Dustin whinning about how it was because Steve was older and had more experience he hasn't even made all the points.Â
He did score the first point but El scored the last 2.Â
It's was 3 to 1. The only point they had was from Lucas. Eddie couldn't throw for shit, Dustin kept dropping the ball, and Will was actually doing pretty well but was kinda being ignored because Lucas and Dustin wouldn't stop arguing.
He can tell eddie was getting annoyed with having to constantly break up their fights.
Their team only needed one more point to win and Mike had the ball.
"Pass it to me!" He yells towards Mike and he does pass it to him. Just way too hard.Â
Because it goes past his hands and right towardd his face. Smacking him hard in the nose and knocking him over.Â
He hears everyone gasp as he groans on the ground.
He heard the tapping of people feet on concrete, and on grass, get close to him.Â
"Holy fuck are you okay?" Despite his eyes being closed he can easily tell that's Eddie's voice.
"Damn Mike why did you throw it so hard" he hears max says. He also hears a light punch but doesn't comment on it this time.
"I didnt mean to!"Â
"I'm okay" Steve says while getting up, grabbing his nose when he felt something on his lip. Blood, of course.
"That would've been a great throw if I was a little bit farther from you," he says towards Mike as Eddie helps him off the floor and leads him to the bench despite saying he was okay to keep playing.
Everyone gather arounds him as El hands him some of the napkins she keeps in her pocket.
"If this is how you all act everytime someone gets hurt it's going to get extremely annoying as we keep playing" Everyone makes weird faces, except for Robin who was grinning.
And Nancy because Robin definitely told her.Â
He smiles. "You guys are going to want me to play more than one campaign, so you will all be playing more games of basketball."
While Lucas smiled, everyone else groaned.
#i like the thought of them all playing basketball together#lucas was definitely happy he got to play basketball with his friends#stranger things#steve harrington#eddie munson#robin buckley#steddie#implied ronance#lucas sinclair#dustin henderson#mike wheeler#will byers#max mayfield#el hopper#nancy wheeler

series masterlist - chapter 5 â chapter 7
Leaving was easy once you got past the one incident. You and Logan had stopped that day at a hotel a bit out of New York City only to be found by your fatherâs men.
But what happened was almost like magic. Logan, your Logan, took them all out with claws. At first you were bewildered, shocked at what you just saw. But now, after 6 months of living in the Canadian Rockies, it was normal.
Normal.
Mornings would start with the soft light streaming through the windows, casting a warm glow over your shared space as Logan brewed coffee and you stretched, enjoying the easy comfort of it all.
Logan had found work quickly enough as a lumberjack, something that kept him outside and busy, and it suited him. Meanwhile, youâd stumbled upon a small animal shelter in the nearby town. Youâd started going once or twice a week, helping out with the dogs and occasionally picking up shifts to keep yourself busy and connected to some semblance of normal life.
The routines you fell into together were quiet, steady, and for the first time in a long while, you felt grounded. Though you missed New York sometimes, especially the volunteer work at the retirement home, the silence of the woods and the small town was a peaceful change.
Not only were things peaceful, but Logan had started opening up to you in the quiet of your cabin, usually in the early morning or after one of his nightmares. It started with little thingsâdetails about his mutation, his healing ability. Then, as the days blurred into weeks, he told you about his age and the wars heâd fought in, his voice quiet, words weighed down with old memories.
One chilly morning, you found him staring out the window, his gaze distant as he sipped his coffee. You moved up beside him, nudging his shoulder with yours. âHey, you alright?â
He looked down at you, a flicker of a smile breaking through the shadows. âYeah. Just⌠thinkinâ,â he murmured, his voice rough but calm.
âAnything you want to talk about?â you offered, watching his face closely.
Logan considered this for a moment, then took a long breath. âI think⌠just realizinâ how long itâs been since I had somethinâ like this,â he finally admitted, a glint of honesty in his eyes. âItâs been a hell of a road, darlinâ.â
You reached out, resting your hand on his forearm. âI donât need to know everything, Logan. Iâm just glad youâre here now.â
He gave a short nod, letting his hand rest over yours, a simple gesture that spoke volumes. He didnât say anything, but his fingers wrapped around yours, holding them a moment longer than necessary.
---
Life in the cabin wasnât extravagant, but there was a certain charm in the simplicity. Nights spent by the fire, mornings with the scent of pine and fresh coffee, and the comforting weight of Loganâs arm draped over you as you both drifted into sleep. But there were also the little bumpsâlike the time you tried making him dinner.
It had been a stew recipe, something you thought would be foolproof. Youâd stirred, added spices, tasted⌠but when you served it, the look on Loganâs face was priceless.
He took a spoonful, eyebrows lifting as he held back a chuckle. âThis a new recipe?â
âOkay, I get itâitâs not great,â you sighed, laughing a little as you took a bite yourself. âAlright, yeah, maybe itâs terrible.â
Logan chuckled, setting his spoon down. âItâs not so bad. I mean⌠itâs got heart.â
You nudged him, rolling your eyes. âHeart doesnât mean itâs edible, Logan.â
âMaybe not,â he smirked, âbut Iâll still eat it.â He winked, lifting another spoonful as he pretended to struggle through the bowl, making you burst into laughter.
---
Late one night, Logan awoke from one of his nightmares. You knew, even before heâd fully come to, just by the way he stiffened beside you. He sat up, rubbing a hand over his face, and you reached out, fingers brushing his shoulder.
âDo you want to talk about it?â you whispered.
He looked down at you, the muscles in his jaw tight. But after a moment, he nodded. âIt was a long time ago. Just old ghosts.â He paused, exhaling heavily. âThereâs been a lot of violence. Stuff⌠I donât ever want you to have to see.â
âI know youâve seen a lot,â you murmured, giving his arm a reassuring squeeze. âBut you donât have to go through it alone, Logan. Not anymore.â
Loganâs hand covered yours, and he turned his head just enough to meet your gaze, his eyes soft but searching. âYouâve been more than I deserve, Y/N,â he said quietly.
Your heart twisted, and you reached up to cup his face. âLogan, I donât care what youâve done or where youâve been. All that matters is who you are now.â
He leaned into your touch, closing his eyes. âThen Iâm one lucky man,â he whispered, his voice low.
He held you close that night, your presence calming the echoes of a past that seemed finally willing to rest, if only for a while.
---
One day you were trying to make something simple, roast chicken and potatoes before Logan got back from work. You diligently checked the oven, making sure that nothing was burning, until Logan came home, wrapping his arms around your waist as you stood up from the oven.
Loganâs hands settled warmly around your waist, his chin resting on your shoulder as he looked over at the oven. The familiar, steady weight of him grounded you, even as you felt your heart give a quick little skip at the simple, domestic gesture.
âSmells good in here,â he murmured, his breath brushing your ear as he took in the scent of roasting chicken and herbs. âDidnât know you were this fancy in the kitchen.â
You let out a small laugh, shrugging one shoulder. âFancy might be a stretch. Iâm just hoping it doesnât come out dry.â
His arms tightened just a bit, pulling you closer. âEven if it did, Iâd still eat it,â he said, a hint of that playful glint in his voice. âMeans a lot, havinâ you here. Feels like⌠home.â
A warmth rose in your chest, one that went beyond the physical, and you leaned back into him, a smile tugging at your lips. âYou know, I could get used to this too.â You tilted your head, meeting his gaze. âLong days, quiet dinners, just us.â
âUs,â he echoed, his voice softer, thoughtful. There was a flicker of something deeper in his eyes, something unspoken yet weighty. His thumb brushed small, slow circles along your hip, as if anchoring himself in the moment, and he gave you a slight smile that didnât quite mask the intensity behind it.
Logan was quiet for a moment, and you felt a shift in his posture, almost like he wanted to say something but was holding back. He looked at you in that way he sometimes didâlike he was seeing more than just you standing there in your small, cozy kitchen. Maybe he was seeing all the days stretching ahead, those simple moments youâd have together, and the weight of that left him speechless.
âLogan?â you asked, brushing a hand along his arm.
He blinked, then smiled, the intensity in his gaze easing back into something gentler. âNothinâ. Just thinkinâ how lucky I am.â
You laughed softly, leaning your head against his shoulder. âGuess that makes two of us.â
The kitchen fell into a comfortable silence, with just the faint hum of the oven and the quiet, steady beat of Loganâs heart against your back. In the quiet of your little life together, things felt simple, natural. Here, there were no expectations, no obligationsâjust the two of you, building something real out of those little, ordinary moments.
But later that night, as you drifted off beside him, Logan stayed awake, lost in thought. His hand brushed over the small velvet box in his drawer, the ring that had waited all this time, the one that had been meant for you once before. He ran his thumb along the edge, thinking about when the right time might beâor if heâd even have the chance. For now, though, heâd savor each day, each quiet moment, holding on as tightly as he could.
---
You lay nestled between Loganâs legs on the couch, your head resting comfortably on his chest as you read, while he watched TV, idly sipping his beer. His free hand drifted up and down your arm absentmindedly, and you could feel the faint rumble of his quiet breaths beneath you. There was a calm in the cabin tonightâa peace youâd found only since being with him.
âWhatâs got you so hooked?â he asked, glancing down at your book with a smirk. âLooks like youâre deep in it.â
You tilted the book so he could see the cover, Jaws. âItâs a book about a shark.â
Logan raised an eyebrow, âa shark, huh?â
You turned back to the book, keeping a small smile hidden. âKind of. Itâs a little deeper than just a shark, though.â
âDeeper than a shark, huh?â Logan smirked, shifting slightly to glance down at you, looking mildly amused. âDidnât think a fish story could be that interesting.â
âItâs not just any fish, Logan,â you said, letting your hand rest on his as you settled back into his warmth. âThis sharkâs on a whole other levelâa menace, basically unstoppable. And thereâs all this tension between the people in the town, like whoâs responsible, what to do, whether they even believe itâs happening.â
He gave a soft grunt of understanding, taking a sip of his beer. âGuess I can see why youâre hooked. Townsfolk fighting over a monster they canât get rid of⌠kinda familiar.â
You tilted your head to look up at him, a glint of curiosity in your eyes. âYou got experience with monsters, Logan?â
âMore than youâd believe, darlinâ,â he murmured, his eyes holding that far-off look he sometimes got when his mind slipped somewhere else, somewhere harder. But his grip on you stayed gentle, grounding him here.
There was a momentâs quiet, then he smirked, leaning down closer. âBut I could take out your shark, no question.â
âOh, really?â you teased, closing the book and giving him a look of mock skepticism. âA great white shark, Logan. One that can bite clean through a boat. I think even youâd have some trouble with that one.â
He snorted, giving you an exaggerated look of disbelief. âIâm tellinâ ya, Iâd have it done in five minutes.â
You laughed, poking his chest. âIâd like to see that. You, in the water, with a shark. Youâd probably scare it off.â
âProbably,â he chuckled, his tone playful but carrying a hint of something genuine. âBut Iâd do it for you.â
His words caught you off guard, softening the teasing banter into something warmer, something real. You looked up at him, and the light in his eyes held a familiar steadiness, a promise you hadnât expected. You felt a smile creeping up, one that made your heart beat a little faster.
âThatâs sweet of you, Logan. But donât go risking your life over a shark.â
He shrugged, giving a small grin. âRisking my lifeâs kinda my thing.â
With a smirk, you shifted to put your arms around his neck. âI donât need you to fight any sharks. I just need you here, safe, preferably not trying to tackle any more sea monsters.â
Loganâs hands came up to cradle your face, his thumb brushing along your cheek. âDonât worry, darlinâ. For you, Iâd stay outta trouble⌠or at least, try.â
Your breath caught as he leaned in, his lips brushing yours softly. You melted into him, feeling the solid warmth of him beneath you, the steady beat of his heart, a promise in every kiss, every touch.
When you pulled back, he let out a small sigh, looking at you with a softness that made you feel as though you were the only person in the world.
âNow,â you murmured, your voice quiet as you tried to keep the mood light, âhow about you let me finish reading this book before you start making any plans to fight sharks?â
âFine,â he chuckled, leaning back into the couch, his arms still loosely around you. âBut Iâm just sayinâ, the offer stands.â
You rolled your eyes, shifting back to lean against his chest, your book in hand. But even as you returned to the words on the page, the comfortable silence between you filled every corner of the cabin, your heart warmed by the man beside you.
---
When Logan came home and removed his jacket, the sound of music drifted to his ears, mingling with the low hum of a vacuum. The cabin was warm, a sharp contrast to the biting chill outside, the smell of pine and faint wood smoke greeting him like an old friend. The soft glow of late afternoon sun streaked through the windows, and as he stepped further in, he caught sight of you.
You were standing in the middle of the room, barefoot, wearing one of his old flannels that hung loose on your frame, the hem brushing just below the tops of your thighs. The vacuum roared in your hand as you cleaned, entirely oblivious to his arrival.
Logan leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed, a faint smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth as he watched you. Something about thisâa simple domestic sceneâmade his chest tighten, a warmth blooming there that he couldnât quite name.
âYâknow, youâre not supposed to wear clothes that fit me better than they fit you,â he drawled, his voice cutting through the vacuumâs roar.
Startled, you turned it off with a quick flick of the switch and looked up, a sheepish smile spreading across your face. âLogan! You scared me,â you said.
âDidnât mean to,â he replied, his tone warm as he pushed off the frame and walked toward you. His boots thudded softly against the wooden floor, and as he got closer, his eyes drank you in, lingering on the way the flannel gaped slightly at the neck, exposing the soft line of your collarbone. âGot a habit of sneakinâ up, I guess.â
You laughed softly, setting the vacuum aside. âIf you were a little less loud, Iâd think you were some kind of predator.â
âOh, darlinâ,â he said, his grin spreading as he reached for you, hands settling at your waist and pulling you close, âif I wanted to catch you, you wouldnât stand a chance.â
Your breath hitched as his words settled between you, his voice a low rumble that always managed to make your knees feel just a little weaker. You placed your hands on his chest, feeling the solidness of him beneath your palms. âGood thing Iâm not running then,â you murmured, tilting your head up to meet his eyes.
He leaned down, his nose brushing yours. âGood thing,â he echoed, before his lips claimed yours in a slow, deliberate kiss. His hands slid lower, fingers splaying over the curve of your hips, pulling you tighter against him. The flannel you wore rose slightly under his touch, and you gasped softly into his mouth as his fingers found bare skin.
âLogan,â you breathed against his lips, your voice a soft plea.
âYeah?â he rasped, his mouth trailing down your jawline, his scruff brushing your skin in a way that sent shivers racing down your spine.
âThink you should let me finish cleaning,â you teased, though your hands had already slid up to wrap around his neck, fingers threading through the dark strands at the base of his skull.
He huffed a laugh, his teeth grazing the delicate line of your throat. âNah, think I got a better idea.â
With a swift move, he bent and swept you off your feet, one arm under your knees, the other supporting your back. You let out a startled laugh, clinging to him as he carried you toward the couch. âLogan, the vacuumââ
âVacuumâll be there later,â he cut in, his voice gruff but tinged with amusement. âRight now, youâre the only thing Iâm worried about.â
He set you down gently on the cushions, his large frame hovering over you as he knelt on the floor, his hands sliding up your thighs, pushing the flannel higher. The intensity in his gaze sent a flush rising to your cheeks, your heart pounding in anticipation.
âBeen thinkinâ about you all day,â he admitted, his voice thick, raw. His hands paused, fingers curling just under the hem of the shirt. âMind if I show you how much?â
You nodded, breathless, and he smiledâa rare, almost boyish expression that quickly dissolved into something darker, hungrier. He leaned down, capturing your lips in a kiss that left no room for doubt about where his mind was. His hands roamed freely now, skimming along the curve of your thighs, pushing the flannel higher and higher, exposing bare skin to the cool air of the room.
âGoddamn,â Logan muttered against your lips, his voice thick, raw. His hands splayed across your thighs, gripping them as though grounding himself, his thumbs brushing along the tender skin there. âYouâre a fuckinâ dream, darlinâ.â
A shiver ran through you, anticipation building as his kisses trailed lower, down your jaw, your neck, leaving a path of warm, open-mouthed caresses. You gasped softly, your hands tangling in his hair as he moved further down, sinking to his knees before you, his broad shoulders nudging your legs apart.
"Logan..." Your voice was barely more than a whisper, already trembling.
âShh,â he murmured, his hands gripping your hips as he pressed a kiss just above your knee, his eyes flicking up to meet yours. The intensity there made your breath hitch. âLet me take care of you.â
He kissed his way up your inner thigh, taking his time, each press of his lips deliberate, teasing. Your heart pounded as you felt his warm breath against your skin, so close to where you wanted him, needed him.
When his lips finally brushed against you, his tongue darting out to taste, you couldnât suppress the soft moan that spilled from your lips. His grip on your hips tightened, pulling you closer as he buried his face between your thighs, his tongue working you with an expertise that made your head spin.
âFuck,â you gasped, your hands clutching his hair, your hips arching into him. He didnât stop, didnât let up, his tongue delving deep before retreating to flick against the sensitive bundle of nerves that had you trembling, your thighs pressing around his head.
Logan growled against you, the vibrations shooting straight through your core, and the sound of itârough, primalâonly spurred you on. He was relentless, his lips and tongue working you with a fervor that left no doubt about how much he enjoyed this, enjoyed you.
âLogan, Iââ Your words dissolved into a whimper, your body tensing as he pushed you closer and closer to the edge. His name was a mantra on your lips, each syllable punctuated by gasps and moans as he pulled you apart and put you back together with every stroke of his tongue.
When you finally shattered, the release crashing over you like a tidal wave, he didnât stop. He worked you through it, his hands holding you steady as you trembled, as your body arched and writhed against him. Only when you were completely spent, your breaths coming in short, ragged gasps, did he pull back, his lips and chin glistening as he looked up at you with a wicked grin.
âYou taste like heaven,â he said, his voice rough, gravelly, as he rose to his feet, his hands still resting on your thighs. âI could do that all night.â
You laughed breathlessly, leaning back against the couch, your body still tingling, your cheeks flushed. âYouâre insatiable.â
âSays the woman who was just begginâ me for more,â Logan teased, his voice a low rumble as his lips brushed against yours. His kiss was slow and deliberate, his tongue sliding into your mouth with practiced ease. The taste of him mixed with the remnants of your own release sent a thrill racing through you, your hands gripping his shoulders tightly, keeping him close.
When he pulled back, his forehead rested against yours, his breath warm against your skin. âYou sure youâre not tryinâ to kill me, darlinâ? Feels like every time I get my hands on you, I lose a few more pieces of myself.â
Your lips curved into a soft smile, your fingers idly playing with the short hairs at the nape of his neck. âThat doesnât sound like such a bad thing.â
Logan huffed a laugh, the sound deep and almost self-deprecating. His thumb traced lazy circles on your thigh, his gaze locked on yours. âFor you, maybe not. For me? Iâm startinâ to think I wouldnât mind it.â
The weight of his words hung in the air, a quiet confession that made your chest tighten. You reached up, brushing your thumb along the rough edge of his jaw. âI wouldnât let that happen,â you murmured, your voice soft but steady. âYouâre too important, Logan. To me.â
His expression softened, the hard edges of his usual demeanor giving way to something more vulnerable. âYouâve got no idea what you do to me, Y/N.â
âMaybe you should show me,â you said, your voice carrying a teasing lilt, though the heat in your eyes betrayed how serious you were.
Loganâs lips quirked into a small, almost mischievous grin. âYouâre insatiable, you know that?â
You shrugged, feigning innocence. âMaybe. But you donât seem to mind.â
He let out a low growl, his hands sliding up your thighs to grip your hips. âYouâre damn right I donât.â
In one fluid motion, Logan had you lifted, his hands firm as he repositioned you to straddle his lap. You let out a surprised laugh, gripping his shoulders to steady yourself as you settled against him. The warmth of his body seeped into yours, the solidness of him grounding you in a way that felt almost necessary.
âSee? Told ya I had better plans than cleaninâ,â he murmured, his lips brushing against your collarbone as he spoke.
You tilted your head, giving him more access, a soft hum escaping your lips. âI think Iâm starting to agree.â
Loganâs hands roamed over you, calloused fingers exploring the soft curves of your body with reverence. There was no rush, no urgency in his movements. It was deliberate, almost tender, as though he wanted to memorize every inch of you.
His lips trailed a path along your neck, his scruff scraping against your skin in a way that sent shivers racing down your spine. âYou drive me fuckinâ crazy,â he admitted, his voice low, almost like a growl.
âI could say the same about you,â you whispered, your fingers trailing down his chest, tracing the lines of muscle beneath his shirt.
Loganâs hands gripped the hem of the flannel you wore, his knuckles brushing against your skin as he slowly lifted it. He paused, his gaze flicking up to meet yours, seeking permission.
You nodded, your breath catching in your throat as he pulled the shirt over your head and tossed it aside. His eyes darkened as they roamed over you, taking in the sight of your bare skin bathed in the warm glow of the late afternoon sun.
âGoddamn,â he muttered, his voice thick with something between awe and hunger.
You felt heat rise to your cheeks, but the look in his eyes kept any hint of self-consciousness at bay. âYouâre staring,â you teased, though your voice wavered slightly under the weight of his gaze.
âCanât help it,â he said simply, his hands sliding up your sides, thumbs brushing just beneath your ribs. âYouâre fuckinâ beautiful, Y/N. Donât think Iâll ever get tired of lookinâ at you.â
The sincerity in his words made your heart ache in the best way. You leaned forward, capturing his lips in a kiss that was slow and deep, your hands threading through his hair as you pressed yourself against him.
Loganâs hands gripped your hips, holding you steady as he shifted beneath you, the hard press of him against your core drawing a soft gasp from your lips. He swallowed the sound with a groan, his grip tightening as he began to rock you against him, the friction sending sparks of pleasure racing through you.
âLogan,â you breathed, your voice trembling with need.
âShh, I got you,â he murmured, his lips brushing against the shell of your ear. âJust let me take care of you, darlinâ.â
His hands moved to your waist, guiding your movements as he kissed you again, his lips moving against yours with a deliberate slowness that left you breathless. Each roll of your hips against him was maddeningly slow, the steady build of tension making you ache for more.
âLogan, please,â you whispered, your hands clutching at his shoulders as you tried to quicken the pace.
He chuckled softly, the sound vibrating against your lips. âPatience, Y/N. Iâm not in a rush.â
You huffed in frustration, though the warmth in his gaze softened the sharp edges of your need. âYouâre cruel,â you muttered, though the slight smile tugging at your lips betrayed your words.
âCruel, huh?â he echoed, a smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth. His hands slid down to cup your ass, squeezing gently as he shifted beneath you. âPretty sure youâll be thankinâ me when Iâm done with you.â
You couldnât help but laugh softly, the sound dissolving into a soft moan as he bucked his hips against you, the friction sending another wave of heat coursing through you.
âLogan,â you gasped, your voice a mix of exasperation and longing.
He grinned, clearly enjoying the effect he had on you. âYeah, darlinâ? What do you need?â
âYou,â you said simply, the single word carrying a weight that seemed to hang in the air between you.
Loganâs expression softened, his teasing demeanor shifting as something deeper flickered in his gaze. âYouâve got me,â he said, his voice steady, his hands firm on your hips as though anchoring you to him.
Your heart stuttered at his words, the raw sincerity of them making your chest feel impossibly tight. You leaned in, pressing your forehead against his as your fingers slid down his chest, the fabric of his shirt rough under your touch. âIâm glad,â you murmured, your voice barely above a whisper.
Loganâs lips found yours again, the kiss unhurried and deliberate, his hands roaming up and down your thighs. The heat of him seeped into your skin, grounding you as you moved against him. The friction was maddening, a slow burn that made you ache for more.
âDarlinâ,â he rasped against your lips, his voice thick and strained, âyouâre makinâ it real hard to take this slow.â
âMaybe I donât want slow,â you countered, your tone teasing, though the way your breath hitched betrayed your own urgency.
Logan chuckled low, the sound vibrating through you as his lips moved to your neck, trailing kisses along your skin. âTrust me, you do,â he murmured, his teeth grazing your pulse point just enough to make your thighs tighten around him. âI want to feel every second of this.â
His words sent a shiver down your spine, your fingers tightening in his hair as he took his time exploring every inch of you. Loganâs hands slid beneath your thighs, lifting you slightly as he shifted on the couch, settling back further into the cushions.
The new angle pressed you more firmly against him, drawing a gasp from your lips that he swallowed with another kiss. âFuck,â you whispered, your hands clutching at his shoulders.
âYou okay?â he asked, his tone softer, though the hunger in his eyes was unmistakable.
âMore than okay,â you replied, your voice trembling as you shifted your hips, testing the pressure between you.
Logan growled low in his throat, his grip on you tightening as his hands slid up your back. âYouâre somethinâ else, Y/N,â he said, his words heavy with reverence.
You didnât reply, too caught up in the way he was looking at you, as though you were the only thing in the world that mattered. Your fingers found the hem of his shirt, tugging it upward. âOff,â you said simply, your voice breathless but firm.
He smirked, obliging without hesitation as he pulled the shirt over his head and tossed it aside. Your eyes raked over him, taking in the broad expanse of his chest, the scars that marred his otherwise flawless skin.
âLike what you see?â he teased, though there was a hint of vulnerability in his tone.
âAlways,â you replied, your hands trailing over his chest, fingers tracing the lines of old wounds. âYouâre beautiful, Logan.â
He huffed a quiet laugh, his hands sliding back to your waist. âDonât think anyoneâs called me that before.â
âWell, they should have,â you said, leaning in to press a kiss to his collarbone.
Loganâs hands tightened on your hips, guiding you as you moved against him, the steady grind of your bodies making your head spin. âYouâre gonna be the death of me,â he muttered, though the words were laced with affection.
âNot likely,â you quipped, a soft laugh escaping you.
He chuckled, the sound low and warm as he shifted again, one hand moving to undo the button of his jeans. Your breath hitched as you realized what was coming next, anticipation coiling tightly in your stomach.
âYou sure about this?â he asked, his voice softer now, his gaze searching yours.
âLogan,â you said, your tone steady despite the way your heart was racing. âIâve never been more sure about anything.â
He nodded once, his hands steady as he slid his jeans down just enough, freeing himself. You couldnât help the soft gasp that escaped you as you took him in, your cheeks flushing at the sight.
âCome here,â he said, his voice rough as he guided you closer, his hands firm on your hips.
You moved slowly, adjusting yourself over him, the heat of him against you making you tremble. Loganâs hands were steady, his thumbs brushing soothing circles on your skin as he guided you.
When you finally sank down onto him, the feeling was overwhelming, a perfect mix of pleasure and fullness that made you moan softly. Logan groaned, his head falling back against the couch as his hands gripped your hips tightly.
âFuck, Y/N,â he rasped, his voice raw. âYou feel... Jesus, darlinâ, youâre perfect.â
You didnât reply, too caught up in the way he felt, the way he filled you completely. You braced your hands on his shoulders, your breaths coming in short, uneven gasps as you began to move.
Loganâs hands guided your movements, his grip firm but not controlling as he let you set the pace. His lips found yours again, the kiss deep and consuming as you rocked against him, your bodies moving in perfect sync.
The steady rhythm built slowly, the intensity growing with each roll of your hips. Loganâs hands roamed over you, sliding up your back, tangling in your hair, grounding you in the moment.
âY/N,â he murmured, his voice thick with emotion.
You met his gaze, your heart skipping a beat at the way he was looking at you. It wasnât just lustâit was something deeper, something that made your chest ache in the best way.
âIâve got you,â he said, his hands tightening on your hips as he thrust upward, matching your movements.
The new angle sent a wave of pleasure crashing over you, a soft cry escaping your lips as you clung to him. âLogan,â you gasped, your voice trembling.
âRight here, darlinâ,â he murmured, his voice steady despite the strain in it.
The intensity between you grew, the slow, deliberate pace giving way to something more urgent as your bodies moved together. Each thrust, each kiss, each touch pushed you closer to the edge, the tension building to an almost unbearable peak.
When you finally shattered, it was like nothing youâd ever felt before. Logan held you through it, his hands steady on your hips as your body trembled, his name falling from your lips in a breathless mantra.
He followed moments later, a low, guttural groan escaping him as he buried his face in your neck, his grip on you tightening as he found his release.
For a long moment, neither of you moved, your breaths mingling as you clung to each other, the world outside forgotten.
âYou okay?â Logan asked finally, his voice soft, his hands rubbing soothing circles on your back.
âMore than okay,â you replied, your voice muffled against his neck.
He chuckled softly, pressing a kiss to your temple. âGood. âCause Iâm not lettinâ you go anytime soon.â
âDidnât plan on going anywhere,â you said, a smile tugging at your lips as you leaned back to look at him.
Loganâs expression softened, his hands moving to cup your face. âYouâre somethinâ else, Y/N,â he said, his voice filled with quiet reverence.
âAnd youâre mine,â you replied, your tone steady despite the warmth spreading through your chest.
âDamn right I am,â he said, his lips curving into a small, almost boyish grin.
The two of you stayed like that, tangled together on the couch, the rest of the world fading away. For now, there was only thisâonly him.
---
You turned off the water that was filling the bathtub and dipped your hand in to test the temperature of the water. The water was just rightâhot, with steam gently rolling off the surface. You stood, wiping your hands on the towel, just as you heard the front door creak open and close with a soft click. Loganâs footsteps padded quietly through the cabin, but you could still feel that familiar presence, that comforting weight of him even when he wasnât yet in sight.
You barely had time to turn around before he appeared in the doorway, eyebrows raised as he took in the sight of you standing by the tub. âNow this is a surprise,â he said, a hint of a smirk playing on his lips.
âThought youâd like a soak after all that work you did today,â you replied, a little smile tugging at your mouth. You stepped aside, gesturing toward the water. âGo on, itâs ready.â
Loganâs gaze softened, though his smirk never quite faded. âSo youâre spoilinâ me now, huh?â
âMaybe a little,â you teased, leaning against the doorframe as you watched him. âCanât have you overdoing it. You might be practically indestructible, but a hot bath never hurt anyone.â
He chuckled, unbuttoning his shirt and shrugging it off. âGot a point there,â he admitted, tossing it onto the nearby chair. You tried not to stare, but you couldnât help your eyes drifting over the familiar planes of his chest, scars crisscrossing his skin like a map of all the years heâd survived. He didnât seem to noticeâor maybe he didnât mindâjust kept undressing as if it was the most natural thing in the world.
Logan stepped into the tub, easing himself down with a contented sigh as he settled into the water. He leaned his head back, his eyes fluttering shut as the steam rose around him. For a moment, you simply watched him, a fond smile on your lips.
âGood?â you asked softly, breaking the silence.
He cracked one eye open, glancing at you with a lazy grin. âBetter than good. You joininâ me?â
You laughed, shaking your head. âThis oneâs all yours. Iâll go make us something to drink.â
Before you could turn, Logan reached out, his wet hand catching yours. He looked up at you, his expression softer now. âStay, darlinâ. Least for a bit.â
His thumb brushed gently over your knuckles, and you found yourself nodding, unable to refuse him. You sat down beside the tub, close enough that you could still feel the warmth of the water, and he let his hand rest in yours.
Logan kissed the top of your hand, a mischievous glint in his eye. "Sure ya donât wanna join me? Promise I donât bite."
You raised an eyebrow, smirking. "Uh-huh. That's what they all say."
He chuckled, his fingers still wrapped gently around yours, as if he was savoring this quiet moment between you. âCould use a little company, thatâs all,â he murmured, his gaze never leaving your face.
âThis is supposed to be a bath for you.â You replied, your own eyebrow quirked.
âIâd enjoy it more if you were in here with me.â
You raised an eyebrow at Logan, the corner of your mouth quirking into a teasing smile. âIs that right? Well, maybe if youâre lucky.â
Loganâs smirk deepened, a playful glint in his eye as he leaned forward, resting his arms on the side of the tub. âOh, come on. Iâm always lucky when it comes to you.â His voice was a low murmur, pulling you in with that familiar, lazy charm he always seemed to have.
âUh-huh, says the guy who tried to convince me he could take on a shark,â you shot back, crossing your arms, leaning casually against the wall. âYouâre just full of bold ideas, huh?â
He chuckled, giving a shrug. âI stand by that. But Iâm talkinâ serious here.â His hand reached out, fingertips grazing your wrist in a way that sent a warmth through you. âNo sharks, no messinâ around. Just you, right here.â
The sincerity caught you a little off guard. The tension settled into something deeper as you looked at him, his hand steady on yours, like he was holding onto more than just the moment.
âI guess⌠I could keep you company,â you said softly, the lightness of your earlier words giving way to something quieter. You slipped out of your shirt, feeling Loganâs gaze follow you, his eyes dark with a warmth that made you feel both nervous and excited.
Sliding into the water, you settled in close to him, leaning back as his arms naturally came around you. The water was hot, relaxing every part of you, but it was Loganâs touch, the gentle press of his fingers tracing over your arm, that made you feel completely at ease.
âSee?â he murmured against your hair, his lips grazing the top of your head. âTold ya this was a good idea.â
You hummed, closing your eyes as you leaned into him. âYou did. Guess I should listen to you more often.â
Loganâs hand slid along your shoulder, trailing down your arm with a steady, careful touch, like he was trying to memorize every inch. You felt the warmth of his breath against your neck, followed by the soft press of his lips just below your ear. The tension of the day melted away, leaving you relaxed and content in his embrace.
For a few moments, you both just stayed there, the only sounds the quiet rustle of water and the occasional creak of the cabin settling. Loganâs fingers traced small, lazy circles along your arm, his other hand holding you close against him, anchoring you to him like he was afraid youâd disappear if he let go.
âSo,â you murmured, breaking the silence, âthis isnât so bad, right?â
Logan let out a low chuckle. âCould get used to it,â he said, his voice rumbling against your back. âPeace and quiet. Just the two of us.â His hand dipped below the water, wrapping around yours.
You squeezed his hand, feeling a warmth bloom in your chest. âThought youâd be the type to get bored out here, all this peace and quiet.â
He gave a noncommittal shrug, though his thumb continued to brush over the back of your hand. âCan handle a bit of quiet if it means youâre here,â he said softly, almost as if he was talking to himself.
You smiled, tilting your head to look at him, your faces close. âGuess that makes two of us.â You felt a strange flutter in your stomach, the weight of those unspoken words lingering between you both.
Loganâs eyes flicked down to your lips, his gaze soft and intent. âYou gonna kiss me, or do I gotta ask real nice?â
âAlways so impatient,â you teased, but you leaned in, closing the distance, your lips meeting his in a soft, lingering kiss. His hand moved up to cradle your face, his thumb brushing your cheek as he deepened the kiss, slow and unhurried, like he was savoring every second. When you finally pulled back, you were both breathing a little heavier, your forehead resting against his.
Logan looked at you, a small, crooked smile on his lips. âSee? Worth the wait.â
You laughed, shaking your head, but there was no denying the truth in his words. âYou really know how to charm a girl, you know that?â
âOnly got one girl Iâm tryinâ to charm,â he replied, his voice rough but warm.
Your smile softened as you nestled back against him, letting the silence settle over you both once more. The warmth of the water, the feel of his arms around youâit felt like a small eternity in that moment, like nothing else in the world mattered except this.
---
Trying to turn the conversation away from what Logan told you, about Stryker coming to visit him about a âmissionâ, you started to talk about your day, with Loganâs head in your lap as you ran your fingers through his hair.
âThe stray was matted but Tina started calling him Wolf. Said the dog reminded her of another animal.â
Logan hummed, his eyes still closed, âlemme guess, she showed you a picture of the animal from her book.â
You giggled, âyeah, she did. Gotta admit that dog looked quite similar to the wolverine in her book.â You tilted your head downwards to look at him, âReminded me of you. Grizzly, sometimes dirty.â
Logan opened one eye, a smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth. âOh yeah? Grizzly, huh?â
âMaybe a little.â You grinned, your fingers drifting through his hair in slow strokes. âNot just the dirty part, by the way. Wolverines are pretty fierce, donât let much stand in their way.â
He let out a low chuckle, closing his eye again, seeming to relax further under your touch. âGuess Iâll take that as a compliment, cominâ from you.â There was a slight pause, and his voice softened a bit. âNot everyoneâs a fan of the grizzly type.â
You scoffed lightly, continuing to thread your fingers through his hair. âWell, good thing I am. You know, even wolverines have a soft side somewhere.â
Logan huffed a small laugh. âYeah? Donât think Iâve got much of that left, but Iâll take your word for it.â
âOh, you definitely do.â You brushed a thumb gently along his temple. âTrust me. Like todayâtaking the time to help out with that old coupleâs truck, even after a full dayâs work.â You smiled down at him, admiration clear in your gaze. âI see it, Logan, even if you donât.â
He tilted his head a bit, opening his eyes and looking up at you, his expression unreadable for a second before he sighed, a smirk breaking the moment. âKeep sayinâ things like that, and I might start to believe you.â
You laughed, rolling your eyes. âIâve got plenty more where that came from.â
Loganâs gaze softened, but he kept his usual, laid-back tone. âGuess Iâm lucky you put up with me, huh?â
âYou know it.â You winked, letting your fingers trail down to his jawline, and you felt him relax a little more, like he could melt under your touch. âPlus, someoneâs gotta keep you in check.â
âNot an easy job,â he muttered, a glimmer of amusement in his eyes as he leaned into your hand, his voice barely above a murmur. âYouâre somethinâ else, Y/N.â
The two of you fell quiet for a moment, the warmth in his gaze making your heart beat just a little faster, and you couldnât help but lean down, pressing a soft kiss to his forehead. When you pulled back, he just looked at you with that familiar mix of amusement and something elseâa depth you didnât need him to explain.
You shifted slightly, a small smile still on your face. âNow, about that dogâthink you could convince Tina to bring him around here?â
Loganâs eyebrows lifted, a smirk tugging at his lips again. âBringing a stray mutt up here? You sure?â
âWhy not? Heâd be a good watch dog for you when Iâm not around,â you said, with a wink.
He chuckled, a bit softer this time. âGuess Iâll think about it.â Then, his eyes crinkled with that familiar spark of humor. âBut only if you promise not to call me Grizzly in front of anyone else.â
You laughed, leaning back against the couch, his head still in your lap. âDeal.â
For a few minutes, neither of you spoke, and you just let yourself soak up the comfortable silence, the simplicity of Logan resting there, perfectly at ease. And as your hand drifted gently through his hair again, you couldnât help but wonder if thisâthese quiet momentsâmight be what youâd both been needing all along.
---
You were driving down a narrow road, the trees thickening as you made your way toward town. The familiar hum of a cassette player filled the car, and you tapped your fingers against the steering wheel in rhythm. It had been a good weekâa small but sweet milestone with Logan, half a year together, and youâd even managed to keep things peaceful in that cabin of his. Tonight was supposed to be simple, a little surprise youâd planned: a tiramisu. Probably the only thing you could bake to perfection.
You rounded a curve, smiling to yourself whenâ
The sight in the distance made your stomach twist. A figure stood in the middle of the road, dressed in black, unmoving, watching you with an unsettling focus. You slowed the car, blinking to see if you were imagining things. But noâhe was still there, large and unflinching in the middle of the narrow path.
As you approached, your heart hammered against your ribs. Something about him was familiar, but not in any way that felt safe or warm.
You pressed on the brake, bringing the car to a cautious stop. The man took a slow, deliberate step forward, his face coming into view under the faint sunlight streaming through the trees. His eyes were cold, almost amused, and his mouth twisted into a cruel smile.
It was himâVictor. The man Logan had mentioned a few times, enough to make you know he wasnât someone youâd ever want to meet, much less find waiting for you like this.
âGoing somewhere?â he asked, his voice deep, mocking, and calm in a way that was anything but reassuring.
You tried to keep your face calm, hands gripping the steering wheel tighter. âJust heading into town,â you replied, voice steadier than you felt. âIs thereâŚsomething you need?â
He tilted his head, like he was sizing you up. âLogan ever mention me?â
A chill crawled up your spine, but you kept your expression guarded. âMaybe once or twice.â
Victor took another step forward, his gaze raking over you with a twisted curiosity, almost like he was toying with the idea of letting you goâbut only almost. âSee, Iâve been meaning to have a little chat with him,â he drawled, his tone venomous, âand here you are, just making it easy for me.â
You felt a pulse of dread, instinct telling you to turn the car around and get out of there, fast. But you knew better than to provoke him. âLoganâs not here,â you said, hoping that would be enough.
He smirked, that same cold expression never leaving his face. âIâm aware,â he murmured, taking another slow step toward you. âYou think heâd leave someone like you on your own if he thought youâd be safe?â
Your heart raced, a knot of fear tightening in your throat. You wanted to say something, anything, to stall him, to get yourself out of this, but nothing came to mind. The realization was dawning, and from the look in Victorâs eyes, he knew it too. There would be no bargaining, no reasoning with him.
"Didn't think Logan would be the type to leave someone behind. Guess I was wrong," he said, sounding amused.
You tightened your grip on the steering wheel, refusing to give in to the fear swirling in your chest. "Loganâs not here," you repeated, your voice firm.
"Like I said, I know," Victor replied smoothly, taking another step. His eyes traveled over the car, then over you, a twisted curiosity behind them. "But I figure, maybe you can pass along a little message for me."
Every instinct told you to run, but the car blocked you in, and Victor was only feet away. "What do you want, Victor?"
He grinned, his sharp teeth glinting under the dim light. "Simple. Tell Logan I said 'hi'... if you get the chance."
The dread in your stomach crystallized as he lunged forward. You tried to move, to react, but he was too fast. His hand closed around your throat, lifting you out of the car as though you weighed nothing, and you fought, kicking, clawing, anything you could think of to get free.
"You know," Victorâs voice was disturbingly calm, "heâs been through a lot. But thereâs always that soft spot, that weakness he canât seem to shake."
Desperation flared within you, and you kicked harder, one foot making contact with his chest. It only made him laugh, and he tightened his grip, his face drawing close enough that you could see the cold cruelty in his eyes.
"Youâre just like all the others," he murmured, voice almost thoughtful. "Maybe a little more stubborn, but thatâs hardly new."
Black spots began to dance at the edges of your vision, your breath coming shorter and shorter. You knew there was no getting out of thisânot with him, not with a monster like Victor Creed.
But Logan...
---
Logan walked through the vegetation right by where he and the other guys were cutting apart a tree. He stopped short once he saw the head of an animal laying on the yellow grass.
âWhat you doing, Logan?â One of the guys asked from behind.
Logan looked around before seeing large scratch marks on a tree trunk, lined with red. âY/N.â He whispered, before running down the hill and through the forest.
Once he hit the clearing, he could see the truck on the side of the road. Logan reached the car, his hands gripping the window frame as he scanned the empty interior. âY/NâŚ?â His voice was rough, the crack of worry breaking through, echoing in the quiet forest.
His eyes darted down to the disturbed earth, faint scuff marks in the dirt telling him where you mightâve been dragged. His heart hammered as he followed the path into the trees, every step growing heavier with dread as he moved through the dense underbrush, the silence unsettling.
And then, in a small clearing, he found you.
You were lying there, so still, your skin pale against the forest floor, hair fanned around you like a dark halo. Blood flecked the ground, stark and terrible against the greenery. He staggered, dropping to his knees beside you, reaching out with trembling hands, one of them clenching briefly before he let himself touch you.
âY/NâŚâ he whispered, voice breaking as he cupped your face, his fingers brushing a smear of dirt from your cheek. Your eyes were closed, lips parted just slightly, as if youâd been trying to say his name. For a split second, he could almost pretend you were just asleep, and that any second youâd open your eyes, make some joke, or reach up to tug him down to you.
But there was no warmth, no spark, nothing.
Loganâs breath caught, and he pulled you close, his arms cradling you as if he could shield you from the reality already etched into his heart. The rage simmered below his skin, burning through the grief, fueling the ache with something primal. He rocked back, jaw clenched so hard it hurt, his face buried in your hair, trying to hold on to any last trace of you, the faint scent of you still lingering, even as everything around him felt like it was falling apart.
âYou⌠You were supposed to be safe here,â he whispered against your hair, voice hoarse. âI shoulda been here. I shouldaâŚâ His words trailed off into silence as he sat there, unmoving, clutching you in his arms as if the weight of his grief alone could pull you back.
He looked down at you, his thumb grazing over your cheek one last time, as though trying to commit every detail of your face to memory. âY/N⌠I swear⌠Iâll make him pay.â The last words came out like a promise, a vow laced with the kind of anger only a man like Logan could bear. He leaned down, pressing a soft kiss to your forehead before letting out a long, broken breath.
When he finally tore his gaze away from you, his eyes turned cold, a new resolve searing through him.
This wasnât over.
umm... sorry??

Also you can just choose not to watch media that includes sex scenes. Granted, it's not always possible to know for sure in advance, but it often is, especially if you're willing to exercise some patience and not rush out to see something the nanosecond it's released.
I don't like graphic/realistic gore or horror (unless it's pretty brief or very comedic, I'm gonna be struggling), and I don't mean "these things make me uncomfortable", "this is awkward to watch", I mean I saw the second Scream movie in the cinema and didn't sleep properly for a fortnight. I read the summary at the top of the Saw franchise page and felt ill - I didn't even get to the plot parts. I am a full on wimp, and I've come to accept that about myself.
What I do: avoid most horror movies, avoid a lot of action movies, take myself out of conversations that go into too much detail about horror, read a lot of content/parental guides so I can work out in advance whether I can watch a show/movie, whether there are parts I might want to fast forward/not wear my glasses, whether there's nothing that would bother me and I can relax and enjoy this piece of media. Sometimes something becomes easier to deal with on rewatch because I know what to expect (TWN) or because it sounded worse than it was (BtVS).
What I don't do: go "everyone hates that! why is it in movies! movies and TV should never show that!"
Like don't get me wrong, I think a lot of us who have things we just cannot cope with go through a phase of doing that, but eventually you gotta grow up and realise not everything is catered to you, and that's okay. If you won't wanna see sex scenes, don't go to movies that are rom coms with a rating that allows for sex scenes, or wait till it's been out for a while and look up content guides. Also, fast-forward exists. Use it.
Sometimes you won't wanna see a movie or show at all, and that's okay. It wasn't meant for you. This is why I'll never watch GOT, even though the music and the costumes and the stories appeal to me. But it's not catered to me. I'll watch something that is.
(FTR, I am not into gratuitous sex scenes, but sex scenes that are story and/or character rich? GIMME. And yeah I do think some of it is poor sex scenes that mean nothing, but suggesting sex scenes are inherently pointless is pretty silly imo. On a level with that author who claimed it's impossible to write good sex scenes.)
Yeah we should do this for action scenes too. Have Aragorn draw his sword and fade to black and the fellowship have killed all the Uruk Hai.
This is the weird wave of purity culture that I mentioned a day or two ago. If you really are *an adult* then you can decide whether or not to watch films and tv shows with sex scenes.

wc: 7.2k (not beta read)
It was he who woke you.
A quiet sacrifice in the evening that felt like the freshest breath of air you could have, more intense than what you could have atop any mountain, near any spring. The scent of burning meat and smokey vegetables grasped at your lungs, and you almost choked on it. How long had it been since someone had offered you something so kind? Real food, not just scraps of something they didnât wish for.Â
Youâd never complain about how difficult it is to be a minor Goddess, you know that you could be a mortal, but most donât think of how Gods can fade. Itâs a physical process, one where youâd notice how your fingertips passed through things like chalices and bowls, how a spoon slid through your hand once. The clatter of gold on the table was embarrassing, even though you were alone. Nothing about being forgotten, or fading, physically hurt. It was only mentally taxing, knowing that you werenât as important as you once were, that mortals found you insignificant.
Generals used to come and offer things frequently sometime ago, but you couldnât even begin to understand how long ago that was. When youâre immortal, or supposed to be, mortal lives seem fleeting. You had taken them for granted, and regret it now, for all you have now are the empty clouds above your temple.Â
The last offering you can gather was from a young boy, who wanted to win a board game against his sister the next day. He had given you half a bun with strips of meat. Sure, it was thoughtful, but this was something rich.Â
You finish inhaling the offering, and then hear the offerer's voice. But itâs muffled, and you want to see who it is anyways, so you swipe through the clouds and create a window to see. Then you can hear him clearly.
Someone who is clearly a general kneels at your altar, which is chipped and dirty. The ashes of the food are in front of him, smoking still, and you can taste the wealth in his meal. It canât distract you from him though, he is striking.
Broad shoulders support a heavy, curly, grey, head of hair, which is bowed in honor of you. His body is widely built, sturdy for battle, and his voice is just as powerful. Youâre so focused on hearing his voice you only catch the tail end of his request.
â... Allow me to come home safely, if not for Rome, then for my wife.â
Your heart squeezes, and you swear you can feel the ichor gushing through your veins. Scarcely when a General came to give you an offering all those years ago would he mention a wife, only ever wishing for luck in the upcoming battle or war. But here, now, youâve been given a respectful request and offering. It isnât a thought in your mind to not favor him now, your eyes closing and your mouth murmuring a blessing to him. It feels intoxicating to use some of your power again, especially on someone who asked for it. It also feels intoxicating to watch this General leave.
He looks around before he goes, seeming to note how degraded your small temple has become. The statue of you that lies ahead of your altar is yellowing, and ironically, multiple fingers have broken off. The General seems displeased by this, sighing as he exits the temple.
His gait is heavy, sandaled steps weighted as he walks down them and into the torch-lit night. You find yourself looking for him even after heâs disappeared from your sight, the warmth of gratefulness hugging around you. Part of you knows better than to play around with the thought, but still you wish to know more about him.
â
It worsens when he comes back. A few times a week he returns, offering rich foods. Itâs been a month now, and you are coming back to life.
Fading didnât feel like anything, but coming back feels like so much more. The first few offerings had your body feeling alight again, like the ichor in you was flowing again, but within the last two weeks youâve gotten your fingertips back. They were tingling for a day and then the next you were able to properly grasp things again, nothing was slipping through you.
In that time you had also learned his name. A guard had come looking for him one night, and stood behind him whilst he prayed. You had found yourself smiling when he didnât interrupt himself, instead acting aggravated once he had finished. The guard had apologized for interrupting and let him know that âYour wife wishes to speak to you, General Acacius.â
Acacius.Â
You still donât know his first name, but it is enough. You can think of it when you feel lonely, when you are bored. Something to associate with the offerings, with the blessings. The fact he has been so consistent hints at a desperation, which would usually repel you from blessing him, but he is the only one who seems to recognize you. His efforts are not going to go unseen by you, not when you have so little to do.
You can feel yourself conceding to your need to know him more, but just as you begin to fight yourself again, he shows up.
Tonight heâs dressed a little nicer. Usually he arrives in a plain tunic but this one has golden trim on it, and his hair is a little more tousled. He stumbles into your altar holding something in a cloth, but heâs walking like heâs⌠drunk?Â
Acacius meanders to your altar, grabbing a torch along the way, and then empties the contents of the cloth. It produces a small dessert bun, a Libum, or honey cheesecake, and your mouth waters. So much of the food that is given to you is savory meats, masculine foods that are heavy on the senses, but this is sweet and delicate. You can, of course, eat whatever youâd like. Youâre a Goddess, and though you arenât major, you are still very fortunate.
But this feels thoughtful.
The General drops to his knees after lighting the bun ablaze, swaying slightly, and now you know he must be drunk.
âGoddess Felicitas,â he begins as normal, âI am sorry I am later than usual. Though I donât know if Goddesses sleep. I was⌠caught up in other affairs, but I made it in time.â
He is less eloquent than usual and seems particularly focused on how it is nearly past midnight.
âI brought you this though,â he gestures to the half burnt bun. âI wanted to bring you something different than meat and⌠things. I thought a dessert would be fitting for that task.â
Acacius pauses now. His thoughts are probably muddled from whatever he drank, and you find yourself smiling. Foolery has never been so endearing to you.
âYou have been listening to me, I suppose. My requests for luck in battle have been answered, as well as my safety being ensured. Your blessings have brought my wife peace of mind, something I could not previously afford to her.â
He looks so small in your temple tonight. Normally he is not so vulnerable, but his shoulders sag as he mentions his wife. Some sort of shame runs over him at the idea that he could not ease his wifeâs worries, but it makes you feel better that you could help.Â
âGoddess Felicitas, I come here tonight bearing no requests, just gratitude. Your blessings have soothed wounds I could not see, and I feel like a young soldier again. You invigor me.âÂ
Then, he leaves.Â
You watch helplessly as he stumbles back down the steps and away from your temple, and more than ever you wish to chase him. The love he has for his wife is clear, and you hold no jealousy of that, but you wish it were you. Something in you is deeply attached to this General now. He has awoken you so much more than rekindling your power as a goddess, more than releasing you from the grief that comes with fading. Yes, Acacius has made your heart beat again, your mind curious again, and you feel seen. Being worshipped is not the same as being loved, if that were true youâd have had many children by now,Â
But after so long being forgotten, this feels like what you remember being loved as.
â
You try not to interact with the other Gods for the most part. They tend to meddle in things they donât need to, and are sensitive. You are not exempt from this stereotype, but thatâs only more reason for the distance.Â
But today, you venture to meet another deity.
Morpheus is not hard to find. He is pretty stationery where he is, usually lounging on a rock or bench near his temple, or above it in the clouds. He is a bitâŚdramatic, from what you remember, but wise.Â
Today he is stretched out on a cloud above his temple, eyes shut. His pale skin stretches taut on his bones as his lean frame breathes deeply. But, he is not asleep.Â
âMorpheus,â you speak.Â
His body rolls toward your direction, eyes still shut, but a small smile on his face.
âO young goddess Felicitas, what brings you to me?â He questions.
Itâs hard not to feel embarrassed. Youâve spoken to Morpheus on very rare occasions, but heâs always been somewhat helpful, though nosy. Dreams tell a lot about people, and when heâs the one giving them to people, itâs hard to hide anything at all.
You donât want him to know of your true affection for General Acacius, just that he is⌠worthy of a visit.Â
And so you begin to describe it to Morpheus, your need to visit Acacius. He doesnât open his eyes at all, but he raises his eyebrows a lot and seems bemused at your situation. Youâre only halfway through your rambling before he raises a gangly limb and waves at your words.
âFelicitas, you think you are the only Goddess wishing to visit her admirer? You need no explanation,â he says jovially.Â
Morpheus reaches into the air and pulls 6 black berries into existence, then drops them into your open palm.
âWhen you know he is asleep, bite down on one of these and think of him,â he describes to you.
The berries smell like nothing, but a powdery residue is left on your skin as you roll them in your palm. It doesnât repel you at all.
Tonight, you will visit him and express the same gratitude he did to you.Â
â
Marcus lays next to his wife, Lucilla, with her hand in his. She fell asleep sometime ago, leaving him to lie awake by himself.
He didnât make it to her temple tonight and the guilt is festering in his body. Marcus knows that she is a Goddess, that he probably isnât a thought in her mind. He knows that he is just another whiney mortal, giving her food that isnât nearly as good as whatever Gods eat. His insignificance grows as he feeds into his guilt.Â
Stress has permeated his life for much of it, from his time as a young soldier up until now, as a General. Battles, politics, and his family, have created a breeding ground for him to be wracked with anxieties, but he stays strong. Thanks to his time in Felicitas temple, itâs been better.
Which is why failing to make it to her temple tonight is making him feel so bad.
He grabs at the linen sheets of his bed, stressing and trying to reassure himself until he falls asleep finally.
â
Being in a dream is weird. It feels much the same as it does when you disguise yourself as a mortal, the out of body experience is semi-familiar, but itâs weird because someone else is there.
Youâve been watching the General enjoy the lake in front of him for a few minutes now. He hasnât slipped into it, but just walks along the waterline. It seems like he is looking for something. Surely his dreams usually contain more action, or perhaps are memories, so you assume it may be strangely understimulating for him.
The appearance youâve chosen is one of modesty, but elegance. A seafoam green peplos hangs off your frame delicately, with golden clasps at the wrists and waist. You did your hair so it would be tucked out of your face. There is no guarantee that Acacius will recognize you like this, but you look much like your statue thatâs within your temple.
Swallowing your nerves, you shimmer yourself into visibility. The grassy field is odd beneath your feet, and you walk toward him with uncertainty in each step. Youâve never met with a mortal before, and you havenât stepped on anything earthy in a long while. His broad stature only becomes more daunting as you get closer, especially since he seems so focused.
You will have to speak first. Youâre much too quiet in this environment, and you must act fast lest he wake before you get his attention.
âGeneral Acacius,â you speak firmly, though your hands shake.Â
This is so unfamiliar to you. Youâve barely even seen his face, as heâs usually bowed at your altar. It is the first time youâll see him at an equal level, the first time youâll have brought yourself to him rather than him to you.Â
He turns quickly, an instinctual aggressiveness toward the unknown. You stand about 10 feet from him, eyes widening.
Acacius is striking. His nose is what you focus on first, strong in shape and line, but behind it are his eyes which look to you with wide acknowledgement. His hair curls around his head in greying ringlets, like a permanent laurel crowning him. The wide expanse of his back was once impressive, but now you can see the solid wall which he becomes when facing you. Nothing could push him over it seems, a man built to stand.
Your heart squeezes the way it did the first time he gave you a request, a tender rush tingling your whole body. No words come out of either of your mouths, and the General drops to one knee instantly.Â
He recognizes you.
âGoddess Felicitas,â he rushes out in a breath. His chest is heaving as he bows his head and no, no this isnât how you want this.
Your feet are moving before you can focus on your anxiety, bringing you so close to him that you can kneel too. Maybe a goddess should not kneel before a mortal general, but you are just on your knees rather than putting yourself below him. Your peplos billows a little as air rushes through it when you hit the grass.
He is above you like this, and you tilt your head to see his face again. His strong brow is furrowed, eyes squeezed shut like he is afraid of you.Â
âAcacius,â you say softly, âI am not here for⌠for ill reason. Please relax yourself.â
You lean back as he relaxes, head tipping upwards as he kneels in front of you as well. Now you can meet his eyes, see the crinkles that are beside them, and really take him in.
An energy of anxiety is shared wordlessly, with him stiff from the sight of a literal goddess, and you with the fear of⌠something.Â
The identity of your anxieties isnât something that you can figure out. Maybe itâs too much to see such a handsome mortal, or maybe itâs that youâre going to thank him for his offerings so personally. Maybe itâs humiliation from this act. What would other Gods think of this? Is it not degrading to become so attached to a mortal? Are you no better than Zeus or Hermes, the gods who interact too intimately with mortals?Â
The sound of his labored breathing alerts you, calls your attention back to the present moment.Â
âI wanted to thank you,â you admit meekly, âfor your offerings. You have been very generous and⌠devoted.â
His eyes are shifty, and you can see the terror in him still. You donât want him to fear you, but you can understand why. Visits from Gods or other deities can mean trouble, but you arenât significant like that.
âGeneral Acacius you are the first mortal who has acknowledged me in a long time,â you offer a vulnerability, perhaps trying to soothe him.
It feels so backwards for you to be kneeling in front of him, speaking. He has done so in front of your altar for many weeks now, but now the spots are switched, yet you are still in power. You avert your gaze as you speak up, wanting to request something of him.
âYouâve been so generous to me, General, I was hoping to know more about you.â
And now, rather than scared, he seems suspicious.Â
âTo know me?â He clarifies.Â
You nod.
âI only know your last name. I think I could offer more luck and splendor if we were more⌠personal.âÂ
Gods that felt awful to say. Youâre no better than the whorish brutes on their thrones, offering petty glories for intimacy. Everything feels flirtatious but thatâs not what youâre looking for. Acacius has a wife he clearly loves, you would never want to interrupt that.Â
He seems to hesitate, but he knows he cannot refuse you. So far your blessings have brought ease to his life, he wouldnât want to lose that.
âThen⌠yes, I suppose I can offer myself if it would please you.â He responds stoically.Â
And it does please you, to know his name. Marcus Acacius, the one who woke you, the one who has saved you from being a fragmented memory within the temples.Â
Marcus Acacius, who you are too fond of.
â
You visit him 3 more times. In an attempt to space out the usage of the berries Morpheus gave you, you only visit him once a week. The bleak tasting berries are sour on your tongue, a rotten sour which lingers once you wake up, but itâs worth it.
The two of you have grown closer, with Marcus opening up more. He tells you about the stresses in his life, how much anxiety is buried in him. But, heâs confident for the sake of his wife. Youâve learned that her name is Lucilla, and much more about her. Marcus talks about her a lot, in passing or retelling something she told him. In the small amount of time youâve gotten to know him, youâve gotten to know her as well.
It burns you with a strange warmth, a desire and envy which makes your stomach growl. You are hungry for him to admire you in the same way, to speak of you, but doesnât he already? Shame grips your throat when you think of it. You are a Goddess who he sacrifices to, who he wishes to have blessings from. What more do you need? A mortal couldn't offer you what another deity could.Â
After the fourth meeting, you found yourself lonely. Lazing back in the clouds above your temple, you woke with a deep hunger. Marcus is beautiful, an admirable man, and he loves passionately. You are already being such a glutton for even speaking with him, meeting with him repeatedly, so why must you yearn for him too?Â
Worship isnât enough, you want what you will never let yourself to have.
Nothing hints that he might feel similarly. His starry gaze which lands on you is not due to your beauty, your personality, or anything more. You have blessed him, and that is why his eyes glitter. Goddess status has never made you feel so low and isolated. Still, you are happy to help him achieve what he wishes, even as it cripples your heart.
Tonight you plan on visiting him. That fourth visit was a week and a half ago, he may be wondering where you are. He still comes to your altar each night, but the prayers are less personal. Marcus saves his stories and ramblings for when the two of you are in the field, or near the lake, when the two of you are really alone.
â
You bite into the berry at around midnight. Its tangy yet death-tasting juice floods your mouth, clinging to the crevices between your teeth and staining your gums. Closing your eyes, you think of Marcus, and his curls, and his eyes, and his nose, and his strong hands.
And then you are there, and he is waiting.Â
It seems like his subconsciousness has picked to be at the lake today, and heâs sat in the sand at the edge of the water. You walk over to him, but notice how⌠down he appears to be.
âShe is not happy with me,â Marcus confesses before you even sit down.
You stand a few feet back from him, looking at how his curls fall around his bowed head.
âLucilla?â You ask softly.
He nods.
A wicked feeling begins to steep in your heart. She is upset with him, he is in need of you for something more than a blessing.Â
And so you listen.Â
Itâs one of the longer meetings the two of you have had. Marcus doesnât cry, but he seems truly upset. Heâs been called to go off somewhere far again, to fight and kill. Reassurances that you will protect him as best you can only soothe him so much.Â
He doesn't care if he dies, he cares that his beloved is distraught over this.Â
The more the two of you talk, the closer you get. There are marks on the sand from where you originally sat, but now you kneel in front of him, with creased brows and worried eyes. This isnât something you can fix, you arenât familiar with love and its intricacies.Â
His knees were tucked closer to his chest before, but theyâve loosened now and his fists rest atop them, clenching. Frustration sits on his face like a mask, one you wish to take off him.
Touching is not⌠something either of you partake in. Sometimes your shoulders will brush when you sit together, but nothing more has ever been initiated.Â
That is why it doesnât surprise you when he flinches as your hand reaches out to rest on top of his right clenched fist.Â
âMarcus,â you say softly, wanting to offer comfort, but he cuts you off.
âDonât,â he replies swiftly.
At first it hurts, watching as he waves off your hand from his own, but then you look at his face rather than where your hands were joined. The frustrated look on his face is gone, replaced with something worse, something guilty. His eyes arenât glittering at you like usual, nor are they hardened with anger.
Theyâre soft pools of conflict that mirror your own.
It doesnât soothe your burn, satiate your envy. You can see in his eyes that maybe you arenât alone in these feelings of admiration, of want, but maybe this is not what you want.
Maybe you want a different universe, one where he doesnât have to be a mortal and you, a Goddess. So you wouldnât have to worry about him dying, and have this friendship survive off death flavored berries. Maybe you want a universe where he isnât married, where he could be yours and you wouldnât feel like a spectator to his heart.
Maybe you want that, but you wonât get it.
Instead the flames of jealousy die in your chest and are replaced with tumors of guilt. Your whole body feels bloated, embarrassed, and ugly.Â
The pair of you stare at each other, a stupid realization between the both of you as you realize that your secrets have been spilled, even though itâs the same one.
His eyes donât move from yours, so you move from his.
The sandy edge of the lake does not look so bright now, even though there are no clouds in Marcusâs dream.Â
âWhen do you leave?â You ask softly.Â
You will not follow him into whatever battle heâll win. Donât embarrass yourself, Goddess.
He tells you two weeks. You say youâll see him before then.
Then you wake on a cloud again, with a cavity of guilt in your chest.
â
Marcus wakes alone.Â
Lucilla had not wanted to sleep with him that night, choosing to stay elsewhere. She didnât tell him where, she left in a quiet flurry of tears and anguish.
Itâs easier for him to feel guilt over his Goddess than it is to hurt his beloved, even if it is the same.
In a moment of frustration he grasps at the sheets, turning over and biting at his pillow. The bed is so cold, and the room smells like stale air even though the window is open, the night breezy.Â
He knows she is beautiful because she is a Goddess. All Goddesses are beautiful, ethereal beings that mortals cannot even comprehend at times. Marcus knows he is lucky to even perceive her, for her to have chosen to visit him.
Yet through all her blessings, he feels cursed.
A plague of emotional infidelity is crawling through his body, sticking to his bones and making him stiff. Everything he does has felt flat for so long, from pretending he is grateful to the Emperors, to now pretending nothing is wrong in his marriage. Heâs scared, and exhausted.
Marcus rubs a hand over his face after rolling over and sitting up in bed, groaning into his palm.Â
At first he tried to blame her for it. What would a Goddess want from a successful General other than a demigod hero son? What could truly be so special about him? He assumed she was manipulating him, using some sort of power to morph his heart, but now he knows it is not true.
If she had wanted to, she would have had him by now, and he knows this. If she had wanted to, her hand would have stayed where it was tonight, and pushed him further. It isnât unlike the Gods to force themselves on a mortal, but she didnât.
Instead, his hand feels hot where hers rested, and his mind is spinning.Â
Marcus doesnât fall asleep again, afraid that heâll see her.Â
â
You wait for a full two weeks before you visit him again. He had been coming to your temple less, and you had assumed he was busy with preparations for the coming battle.Â
The stubbornness you felt that night has not left you. At first you did not leave your temple in fear that you would grow attached, now you remain there because you have grown attached.Â
âEnough is enough,â you had thought to yourself.Â
But it is hard not to miss him, and his soothing prayers. The way his offerings tasted of smoke and sweet, and how heâd always burn such a large portion. Marcus never gave you scraps, he seemed to refuse to.Â
However, you can only distance yourself so far.Â
It is quiet when you approach him. He is sitting in the field this time, the lake a distant glitter in your eyes. He does not face you, but his head isnât bowed like before.
âMarcus,â you greet, your voice muted.
He raises his head, turning over his shoulder and nodding, as if to direct you to come closer, and so you do.
Tonightâs visit isnât vulnerable, or even pleasant. Marcus seems so distant as he dryly tells you about how heâs preparing, and his wishes to return safely. His eyes barely meet your own as he talks, and he continuously twists the ring on his finger.
It grows tiring, watching him ramble about politics you could care less about, listening to him say things that have nothing to do with him. Heâs so far from the friend you thought you had made. When the air between you goes quiet, you donât fill it for a while. You listen to the sound of the wind in the grass as his eyes still will not meet yours. Itâs breaking you apart.
This is the last night youâre able to visit him, unless you visit Morpheus again. You will not waste it like this.
âWhat is ailing you, General?â You ask, deciding to prod more than you usually do.
To your surprise, he scoffs in light laughter.
âYou,â he responds quietly.
His words donât hurt, at least not yet. You have the option to walk away now, wake yourself and leave him with his final blessings, but of course you donât.
âMe?â You ask, âwhat have I done?â
Marcus rolls his shoulders back, lifting his head to look into the everblue sky above the both of you.
âYou have made my life difficult, Goddess.â
Difficult? You have made his life difficult?
You have half a mind to tear him to pieces, curse him with something awful like snakes for toes, or spoons for teeth. After all that youâve done for him, all the safety youâve provided, he is telling you that you make things difficult? How dare he? Be outraged, Goddess, for he disrespects the holy luck which you bestowed to him.
Thatâs what you should think, thatâs how most of you should feel.
But instead you feel small, and hurt. Yes, he is disrespecting all that youâve given, but also you feel like a failure. Your physical existence is because of him, because he did not let you fade. All you wanted to do was make his life easier, help him to have an eased mind and a safer life.
But instead, heâs telling you youâre difficult.
It feels like your body is shrinking in the white peplos youâve worn, the sheer fabrics swallowing you. Shame is flooding in the form of tears behind your eyes, wetting your orbs with an unexpected outburst of emotion.
âI am sorry,â you manage weakly.
Marcus does not look at you while you cry, and you want to believe it is because he cares too much to watch, but you cannot verify that.
The wind picks up again, but it does nothing to hide the soft cries you canât hold back. Once you were a fading Goddess, now you are just a failing one.
There is no luck involved with love.
Eventually he speaks again, with his head turned away from you.
âI am sorry too,â he says. Thereâs a finality in his tone that makes you ache.
So much is said in such little words. He is sorry to you, for you, and with you. A sorrow is shared between the two of you, knowing that your hearts ache for one another as they are worlds apart yet on earth together.Â
This last berry was only supposed to mark the end of your visits, not the end of everything. It feels like this is all there is for the two of you, since itâs too complicated to continue on like this.
Thatâs why he doesnât move away when you move closer and rest your head on his shoulder as tears leak down your cheeks, or at least thatâs what youâll believe.Â
â
Time moves weirdly when youâre immortal, but it all happens so quickly.
Marcus stopped coming to offer things for you, and so you were blessing him less. Admittedly you had kept an eye on him, but not a keen one. It didnât feel right, not when you and him werenât⌠friends anymore.
But this feels too soon, too fast, too unfamiliar. Has your sadness caused you to be blind?
You watch as a man kneels in front of Marcus, panting and bloody with a sword beside him on the ground.
The only reason you are here was because you had felt the roar of a crowd all the way at your own temple, a wide distance away. It had drawn you in, and instead you had found this.
That roaring which you had heard crescendos to a new height around you as you shimmer into existence, cloaking yourself to the mortal eyes in the stands of the coliseum, but existing enough to touch him.
Arrows stick out of his front, more crushed beneath his back, as he is slumped on the white, gravel, ground. His hair is curled with tacky blood streaking through it, and he is so, so, still.
You drag your hand across his forehead, feeling the remaining heat, and in the echo of the crowd you begin to sob.Â
Everything around you is moving, changing, fighting, and screaming, but you sit invisible in the center of the coliseum, running your hands over the now dead General Acacius. There is nothing you can do to bring him back, to ease Lucilla, to save him and apologize. He is dead beneath your fingers, with arrows lodged deep in his irreparable, mortal, flesh.Â
You were supposed to keep him safe.
Hot tears run down your cheeks as you keep grasping at his armor, unable to move him or yourself. The last visit felt official, but this feels final. There is nothing more for you here, no friendship in a corpse.
Thoughts are running through your mind at the rate that your breath is puffing from your chest. The question of where he will end up in the afterlife is overwhelming you, and the chance for him to go to Elysium feels reasonable. Itâs where he should be, where he deserves to go, especially after all he had done for Rome. You donât even care why heâs here, or why he seems to have been brutally killed, but after the time you spent with him, Elysium seems right for him.
â
Itâs where he should be. Elysium is where he should be.
And itâs where you find him.
His place there is somewhat similar to his and Lucillaâs home back in the mortal world, with lush greenery and airy drapes that flutter in various colours. It seems like he has left space for Lucilla here too, with space left in the chests for her things, and a permanently made half of the bed.
Elysium offers a true celebration of life for heroes, demigodly or not, and youâre sure Marcus has been enjoying that. Anything that he had been shackled to in his mortal life was gone now, and it seems that all he would have to miss is his wife.Â
Most of your time is spent there, in his afterlife home. You peer from behind curtains when he comes back, hidden in drapes and keeping yourself small.Â
He is already dead, but after the last time you abandoned him, you cannot bear to leave him alone again.
The vision of him, bloodied and murdered on the coliseum floor, flickers into your mind every time you see him lying in his bed. Itâs an obsession to be near him, to be looking after him. Pluto might not even know youâre down here anymore, but what does it matter?
Marcus Acacius was the last living mortal to worship you. In the underworld, you are beginning to fade. Your fingers are slipping from you again, which is making it easier to lurk near him, but it is a painful process.
You want to speak to him. No longer do you yearn for his love, not after being in his home and seeing how dedicated his heart truly is to Lucilla, but you yearn to speak to him again. A panicked emotion runs through you at the thought of fading alone, of being entirely forgotten.Â
It didnât matter before he died, fading was just something bound to happen, but now itâs more. Is he forgetting you?
â
Youâve lost most of your arms by the time you work up the courage to speak up. Lucilla arrived sometime ago, joining Marcus in the afterlife. Watching them together brought some warmth to you, some kind of happiness that you couldnât have for yourself, but seeing it for him was enough.
You sit on the terrace of their home, invisible to their eyes, and somewhat to your own. From the tips of your fingers to just below your elbows, you are a specter. Grey shadow fills where your limbs used to be, and they pass through all objects. You couldnât tap his shoulder if you tried.
Oftentimes you sit, hidden, and ponder by yourself about more than Marcus. There were so many things you were adamant about when he was alive, and you regret it all now. Your determination to avoid your feelings, or at least not show them, and your need to not become attached⌠it bites at you now, a stinging, grieving, venom, that wonât leave. Your status as a Goddess blinded you to how tender that friendship could have been, and now you sit as a ghost spectator to his afterlife, obsessed with a mortal as a fading immortal.Â
The tips of your fingers pass through the glass you try to grab as you think of this on the terrace. Youâre glad that youâre such a minor deity, so at least you do not have to feel so humiliated about fading. A smile has just graced your face as you feel blessed for being so unimportant you can essentially stalk this mortal, when suddenly his voice cuts through the humid air of the space.
âFelicitas?â Marcusâ voice asks.
Itâs so hesitant that you think youâre imagining it. You thought you had their home to yourself right now, thinking they had gone to do⌠whatever souls do in Elysium, but when you turn your face, he is there.
Marcus has not worn fancy clothing in a long while now, and right now is no different. He stands before you in a plain looking tunic, which just graces his knees. To see him at ease has been so nice, but he looks distressed at your sudden appearance.
You cannot find your voice as you awkwardly stand up, trying to think quickly. There is no good way to explain what youâre doing here, hidden away in him and his wifeâs home. You could just vanish into thin air, but that feels wrong. He has seen you already, any attempts at pretending you arenât here would be ridiculous.
His eyes scroll from your face down to your arms, and the smoking shadows that used to be there. Concern pinches onto his face with knitted brows and pressed together lips.
Something in you wants him to turn away, so you donât have to think about why he is worried for you, even after all the trouble you caused, but he doesnât.
His sandaled steps are heavy as he comes to you, reaching for your hands but finding the gesture fruitless as his own slip right through yours.
âDulcissima,â he speaks weakly, shock woven in his words.
You had told him about fading a little while ago, when the two of you were in that field. Now it seems the severity of it has hit him.
What is hitting you is the name. Dulcissima, or sweetest. How long had it been since you had been referred to so fondly? All at once you are being remembered, recognized, and shown some affection. It feels like too much and tears are falling out of your control.
âIâm sorry,â you manage, âI was supposed toâ to keep you safe.â
Marcus is shaking his head already, refusing your apology.
âNo, no. You did keep me safe, you did. I pushed you away, I couldnât control myself and I caused this,â he argues.Â
It does not comfort you that you both blame yourselves. You wish to reach out to him and touch his face like you should have when he was warm and alive. You want to know if he is cold now, and itâs as if he hears you.
Marcus places a hand on your cheek, a softness in his eyes and hold that says that he missed you.
âI saw you,â he claims, âwhen I was on the ground. You were the last thing I saw.â
Somewhere between life and death for mortals, there are moments of godly clarity. Some see the light, others see their families and memories, but in that tiny glimpse of time, some see Gods.Â
He was able to see you as you knelt over him, sobbing as you were cloaked to any mortal's naked eye. You were the last thing he saw, and the last thing he truly regretted.Â
All you can do is stiltedly nod at him, feeling like you were in trouble even though it seems heâs not upset.
For a moment, his eyes flick away, contemplative, but then he meets your gaze again.
âI told Lucilla of you, before I died. Notâ not of my feelings which I struggled with, but that you were a close friend, a blessing in many ways.â
A blessing in many ways.
Another choked sob is wracked from your chest, your bottom lip curling out embarrassingly as your face contorts. He almost coos at you, the thumb on your cheek rubbing away your tears.
âGoddess, I have missed you,â he admits.Â
Stupid nods are all you can offer, your voice imprisoned in your ever tightening throat which cries. When he was alive he was never this tender, too confused and insecure to ever touch you, but it seems he has been regretting things too.
âFelicitas,â he says quietly, âdo you come here for ill reason?â
You shake your head this time, rather than nodding. You have no reason to be here, other than the fact that guilt has taken over your mind and heart since he died.
âThen relax, dulcissima. I have an offering for you.â
Marcus relaxes his stature, eyes still gazing over you. He looks at your fading palms and you watch him swallow nervously.
âI will worship you again, lending you offerings here, and all I ask in return is for our friendship again.â
Itâs the opposite of how you met, almost completely, but itâs everything you need. You will not fade, he will not struggle in marriage, and you will have one another again.Â
Again, you are nodding stupidly, but soon youâre embraced by him and nodding into his chest. His hands grasp at your back as he tells you how much he missed you in his final weeks, how he regrets losing you entirely, how he requires you as a friend.Â
You are satiated in his arms as he comforts you, awakening you again there on the terrace. Unbeknownst to you, Marcus has let tears slip down too as he holds you close.Â
âYou will keep me safe here?â he asks jokingly.
It makes you smile, the idea of offering luck to a man who already died.
âYes, General. I will keep you safe here, from all the horrifying glory and splendor,â you assure.
The two of you laugh, breaking the embrace but staying close. A passionate connection is still between the two of you, but in a different way now. Maybe when he was alive it was romantic because it is all you could think of, but through his death the two of you have come to understand it more.Â
You require one another in a unique way, and leaning on one another does not have to be intimate the way he is with his wife. Marcus does need you, just as you need him, and now that you are both immortal in a way, you will never be separated again.

EMPLOYEE STATEMENT 034â
There was this movie I watched once when I was a kid, about a little girl who falls from the sky. Although I canât remember the title of it now. I do remember that she was a part of another world, a part of something bigger. She was important. I donât think you have us write these to talk about movies, do you? Iâm sure youâd rather hear about the operations on board, or the technical difficulties, or if thereâs been any damage to the cargo. You know, the âimportant stuffâ. Everything is running smoothly so far. Is that good?
I want to be a part of something bigger one day. Hopefully this experience will help me. Iâm grateful to have this opportunity.
DAY THIRTY-THREEâ
Pony Express allowed a maximum of five hours of sleep to their employees on haul. During those five hours, the Tulpar was shadowed by a veil of utter stillness. A silence not too dissimilar to that of a library, or that painful pause in awkward conversation. It was too quiet, which led you to stare at the ceiling until the fatigue of work or boredom got the better of you. Even when you could fall asleep, it was far from restful. Over the past month you had gotten the worst sleep of your entire life thus far. Worse than when you lived in those co-ed dorms with unruly neighbors and argumentative hallways. Worse than those nights thunder cracked down from the darkened sky and you clutched stuffed animals in your chubby, child hands. After a certain point, you had given up on finding sleep at all.
The computer screens within the cockpit would beep on occasion, the sound barely audible over the soft plucking of guitar strings in your headphones. The coords of some old folk song filled your ears instead. You sat in the captain's chair, curling in on yourself with your knees to your chest and arms around your person. Your head snuggled into the dip in your legs, cheek pressed your knee cap as you stared at the sea of glowing green.
Curly had given you permission not too long ago to sit in the cockpit at night. Within the first month of your apprenticeship, you had grown on him quite a bit. The captain had always been a kindhearted person. He was a people pleaser to his core, a man simply happy to help. Curly saw a lot of himself in you, and he knew what it was like to feel, well, restless.
âAs long as you promise not to touch anything,â he had said, prefacing his next words with a comforting smile, âyou have my permission to use your clearance to the cockpit at night. But if word gets to the higher ups, theyâll have my head, understood? We wouldnât want that, now would we?â
Normally, you tried to pay attention to how long you had been sitting there, keeping track of each song that played to count the minutes as they passed, but tonight you hadnât. With a sigh, you reluctantly stood from Curlyâs chair, deciding to give sleep another try. You slipped your Walkman into the pocket of your pajama pants and left the cockpit. Each step you took was quiet, almost imperceivable, as you walked down the hall toward the sleeping quarters. You didnât want to disturb the others, although you had a feeling nobody else was sleeping all that well either. The rusted, trusty pipes groaned as you passed, their settling moans somehow bypassing the volume of your music. It made you feel uneasy. You reached into your pocket and turned the music up a bit in an attempt to drown out the sound.Â
Rounding the corner, you finally reached the door to the sleeping quarters. Just as you reached for the door handle, it slid open seemingly on its own, causing you to flinch. Standing thereâholding a flashlight in one hand and with the other placed against his chestâwas Daisuke, looking far more caught off guard than you felt. You winced as he shined the light directly into your eyes.
âHoly shit, dude,â he breathed, voice dropped to a raspy whisper. âYou straight up scared the hell out of me. What are you doing walking around in the dark?â Daisuke adjusted his aim and shot the beam at the ceiling instead, creating enough light for the two of you to see each other a little better.
With a soft laugh, you pulled your headphones from your ears, allowing them to hang around the back of your neck. âIâm sorry. Couldnât sleep.â
âYou too?â Daisuke questioned.
âIâm surprised anyone can sleep on this thing,â you whispered. âWhere are you going?â
His eyes dropped in embarrassment as he used his free hand to rub nervous circles against the side of his neck. âIâm⌠Iâm grabbing a snack from the lounge. You wanna come?â
âYeah, if you want me to.â You didnât hesitate. Anything sounded better than tossing and turning. You stepped to the side, permitting him enough space to walk out of the doorway then alongside you.
Daisuke breathed a chuckle at your response. âI wouldnât have asked if I didnât want you to.â
âThen I guess Iâm coming,â you said in a hushed, playful tone.
Daisuke looked at you with a smile and nodded, shining his flashlight down the hall as the two of you began to walk in silence. In the quiet of the hall, the door to the lounge seemed to open with a deafening wheeze. Deep, royal blue illuminated the large room. The night-time window screen displayed a starry sky with wisp-like clouds, bathing the room with an otherworldly glow. It reminded you of going to the aquarium as a kid, surrounded by water and the smell of saltwater. You half expected to look up and see sharks and fish swimming overhead, but you knew all there would be was a dull, blank ceiling and slumbering lights.
Daisuke stuck his head through the doorway, peeking to see if anyone was already inside. When he determined that the coast was clearâalthough it wouldnât have mattered anyway considering the noise of the door, he motioned for you to follow him inside.
âHell yeah! The place is ours,â Daisuke celebrated, speaking louder once the door closed behind you two. He walked toward the vending machines with long, intentional strides. You tread on his heels, gaze fixed on him in amusement as he looked over the different options.Â
You pulled your Walkman from your pocket, then leaned against the bar, palms pressed to the countertop as you pushed yourself up, and took a seat on the cool, brown laminate. âIs there normally someone else here?â
âHmm?â He barely heard you, too fixated on what he was going to eat. As he processed what you had said, the words loading behind his eyes in a turning spiral, he ordered a pack of freeze-dried fruit and tore into the package. âOh, nah. Not usually. I mean, Iâve seen Anya in here once or twice, but sheâs always coming from medical bay. Getting coffee for those late nights, I guess.â
âShe works too much,â you noted. âI wish she wouldnât push herself like that.â
âYou two seem close.â Daisuke approached, leaning against the counter beside you.
âYeah. You could say that.â A tender smile graced your lips at the thought of you and Anya being close.
There was a pause, a brief lull in the otherwise newborn conversation. A series of crunches sounded from your right where Daisuke stood as he popped piece after piece into his mouth. You glanced over at him, the tenderness of your smile warping into something more entertained. He glanced over at you in turn, his mouth full of apple as he mustered a lopsided smile.
âHey, itâs your Walkman,â he exclaimed after a swallow, pointing at the dated tech in your lap. âWhatcha listening to?â
âOh,â you peeped with a suddenly flustered look on your face. âItâs a mix my mom made for me. Just a bunch of old folk stuff she used to play for me when I was little.â
âCan I listen?â he asked, shoving another piece of fruit in his mouth.
âS-Sure, yeah.â You unplugged your headphones and played the tape. It crackled, the old speaker not what it used to be. Or what it ever was, truthfully.
Maybe the quality of the sound would have bothered somebody else, but not Daisuke. As your small corner of the lounge filled with the sound of guitarâthe stories of rural towns, first loves, and early mornings, Daisuke set his snack on the counter and listened intently. It was far from what heâd normally like, but something about listening to it here, with you made it sound perfect.
âItâs funny, actually. I never used to like this stuff back on Earth, but lately this is the only one I want to listen to,â you said over the music.
âYou must really miss her.â Daisuke inched closer, standing less than a foot away from you as he leaned against the counter. His gaze flickered up to your face, quietly admiring the curves and arches of your profile. Under the blue light of the night time window screen, any blemish or imperfection on your face seemed to vanish. Not that he had ever noticed any imperfections on you. Matter of fact, for some reason, he couldnât imagine seeing any part of you as imperfect. Even if he tried. There was a somber look in your expression as he spoke, one that made his stomach twist in knots.
âSo much. I didnât think it would be this hard being away from home.â Your voice was just above a whisper now. You felt your eyes begin to burn, the familiar sensation of tears welling in the corners as you tried to suppress the ebbing flow. With the shake of your head, you let out a quick laugh, feeling the tension gradually lifted from your shoulders. âWhat kind of music do you like?â
Daisuke didnât blink or care about the change in discussion. He didnât care about what the two of you talked about, and he wasnât going to pry either. He knew that you would open when you felt comfortable enough to do so, and he was happy to wait however long that would take.
âA bit of everything, I guess. It kinda pisses me off when people say that and, like, they donât actually mean it.â He slid his snack off of the bar and extended it to you, shaking it as the pieces inside rattled against each other. âI have a pretty impressive vinyl collection back home. Got everything from Etta James to Duster. You should see it sometime.â
Weakly, you smiled and took a piece of the fruit from the package. âMaybe when all of this is said and done. After the haul?â
âIâd love that,â Daisuke responded quickly, eyes trailing over your face. After another moment of silence, a brief break in conversation, he shifted on his heels and looked away. âSo, you uh⌠you got anyone waiting for you back home? Yâknow, like friends? A boyfriend? Or uh, a girlfriend? If you, like, swing that way or whatever. Which would be totally cool, obviously. Iâve got a bunch of gay friends-â
âDaisuke,â you said with a hint of that ever familiar amusement in your voice. âRelax, okay?â
He looked back at you and nodded. âRight, yeah⌠So, do you?â
âFriends? Yeah, a bunch. I miss them too. But a partner, not so muchâŚâ You felt your cheeks light up, a soft pink flush dusting the peaks of your cheekbones and the ridge of your nose.
âHey, thatâs cool,â he responded, bumping shoulders with you and trying not to sound too happy about your response. âMe neither. I mean, like I said, Iâve got loads of friends. Just not the whole girlfriend boyfriend thing.â
âLook at us,â you mused. âOne in the same.â
âYup, one in the same.â Daisuke glanced back at you hopefully, then looked away. He downed the rest of his dried fruit and crumpled up the package, tossing it in the direction of a nearby trashcan and missing by a couple feet. He winced, feeling a tinge of embarrassment as he rubbed the back of his neck.
âYou gonna go get that?â you asked jokingly, pushed yourself from the countertop, and landed on your feet, securely tucking your Walkman back into your pocket as the music stopped.
âYeah, yeah.â He rolled his eyes and walked toward the trash before picking it up and disposing of it properly. âItâs on the way out anyway. In fact, I meant to do that.â
You trailed after him, following close behind as the two of you approached the exit to the lounge. âTotally,â you teased, smiling up at him.
Yet again, the door slid open with that deafening screech as Daisuke and you left the lounge. Together, you walked back to the sleeping quarters. At the door, Daisuke turned to you and stopped. His brown eyes trailed over your features once more in the darkness, illuminated only by the light of the flashlight in his hands. Even in the blackness of the hallway, his smile was bright. His gap-toothed grin seemed almost bright enough to flood the entire hallway with light.
âThanks for coming with me,â he spoke quietly.
âThank you for inviting me,â you responded.
Daisuke opened his mouth as if to speak, but the words he wanted to say seemed caught in his throat. Instead, he just nodded and displayed that same smile. Your brows furrowed questioningly, an expression that made his heart skip a bit. Before you could say anything, he opened the door to the sleeping quarters and ushered you inside.
âGoodnight, [Name]. See ya in the morning.â He bit his lip, walking backward toward his room and nearly stumbling when he reached the door.
âSweet dreams, Daisuke.âÂ
With that, you slipped into your room with a strange feeling in your chest. A tightness you hadnât felt since high school, since hallway crushes and etching names into wooden picnic tables. An ache at the loss of his presence. How strange.

Eves ass in on full display in Stellar Blade the entire game. If that game was being censored it would be covered up more. But no, itâs just these random costumes that are redesigned. Other costumes that show even more skin are left alone. Thereâs a costume where sheâs butt fucking naked but has no nipples or pussy so itâs okay, and thatâs not censored. Why would Sony demand that she be very minorly covered up in some random instances but let her go fully ass out in others? They clearly donât care about Eveâs ass, and the only reason these designs would be changed is because of the developers changing it themselves. The censored version is not even un-sexy. That swimsuit would get a PG movie a PG-13 both before and after being redesigned.
And if they donât want sexy wouldnât they just not accept Stellar Blade, a game about a sexy lady sexily running around in various sexy outfits and killing monsters while giving you a good long look at her ass? I donât think anyone whoâs supposedly offended by hot women will platform that game in any state.
I donât think this is about horniness, thatâs the charitable interpretation. You could just look at old images of her ass if thatâs what you want. I think itâs about something worse. Entitlement. You are upset that for two seconds your desire to see ass is slightly less prioritized than it was before. That someone somewhere made a choice that made this game pander to you .1 percent less than it did before. Itâs still a game where the camera gets so close to this womanâs ass iâd be embarrassed to play it in a room where someone could see me, and where every outfit she wears is so tight she could probably flash me her asshole while fully clothed, but thatâs just not enough somehow.
Iâm donât know if you specifically do any of this, but other Stellar blade fans get mad that:
In Hades 2 thereâs an old lady character.
In Assassins creed people bow before a samurai that is black, who is based on a real black Samurai, who people would be bowing to in real life ancient Japan.
That in some video games you have the option of designing a character that is ugly, or giving your character vitiligo, an option you have to actively search for.
That in a fucking furry porn game about public sex you get to have gay sex. Because we all want our porn to tell us âNo, no sex for you actuallyâ.
Stellar Blade Censorship
Once again, something risque gets censored and people rush in to say "omg who cares" or "stop being horny".
I'm not big on the game. But the devs had a vision and it was censored. Sony is notorious for stupid censorship of games produced outside of the EU/America and this is another case of it.
Remember what they did with DMC5? Among other games.
We are at a point where corporations are trying to pressure out anything NSFW, like Gumroad evicting anything too risque at the behest of Mastercard and Stripe.
And this is the exact same sentiment. I do not care if it's only adding a bit of fabric to her outfits or the gore is toned down. It is still censorship and against the devs' artistic vision.
The fact that people are willing to let this slide because a personal bias or prudishness is absolutely shameful. If you don't like the art, that doesn't mean you should approve of the art getting censored for no damn reason.
It seems so easy to make people defend censorship. All you have to do it cover a bit of skin and they'll shrug, yet they'll be surprised when their NSFW artist friend gets nuked off of a site.
Stop defending censorship of art for the sake of corporate approval/sensibilities.

~ EVENT SPOTLIGHT : Videotome Jam - "Waiting" ~
November 16th to December 1st 2024
Videotome Jam is a two-week-long game jam for games made in any of the Videotome engines with the optional theme of "Waiting".
What is Videotome?
Videotome is a series of small homebrew IF/VN engines made by Freya Campbell (communistsister), an indie game developer focusing on narrative games that are usually:
science fiction, horror, &/or romance
close to 100% LGBTQ characters
free/PWYW with low tech requirements
liable to make players keysmash due to feelings
Videotome was first released in April 2022 as a part of a game entry for the Domino Club collective. The initial idea for the engine was to make writing text-heavy games as hassle-free as possible, focusing not that much on the visual presentation format, but more on the writer's experience. It would allow writers to write in a notepad and then it would somehow grab the .txt file and parse the lines into an array, spitting them out one line at a time as a kinetic novel.
At the moment there are four engines available:
Videotome, for linear, no frills text / images / music;
Videotome ADV, adding a more conventional layout with ignorable choices and branching;
Super Videotome, for more fully featured and freeform image/canvas use;
Videotome Heartbreak, adding a stat raising dating sim & storylets structure to the above.
If you're more interested in the process of making these engines, check out the devs blog post - Words, Friction, Syntax: Stuff I thought about when making Videotome. (The post also includes a very interesting case study concerning other game engines Freya has experience with.)
If you want to check out some examples of projects made with Videotome, take a look at this collection. It includes games made by both Freya and other devs.
~ ONGOING (VOTING) ~
The voting for ECTOCOMP 2024 has officially started! To vote and participate as a jury, you must do so by giving between 1 to 5 stars on each entry page of the jam. The voting period ends on November 30.
~ ONGOING (SUBMITTING) ~
A Hallmark movie is a feel-good, family-friendly film, often centered around romance, personal growth, or holiday themes. A Very Hallmark Game Jam with a theme of âCharming Love Interest with a Secretâ is also all about that!
Are you a fan of Videotome games? Then the Videotome Jam with an optional theme âWaitingâ is for you!
This yearâs Yuri Game Jam is in full progress. The devs have until December 2nd to submit their projects.

Director ĺşď¨ çľą Osamu Dezaki talks about Oniisama E...
Oniisama E... was the first project I worked on at Tezuka Productions. At that time, I had left my work at Tokyo Movie Shinsha and was focusing on OVA projects like B.B. and SĹ RyĹŤ Den. One day, a producer named Kuniharu Nagayama, with whom I had worked since my time at Mushi Production and who later joined Tezuka Productions, approached me with an offer. He said: "Why don't you direct it?" I replied, "I always wanted to work on Tezuka Osamuâs original works, but at Mushi Production, I was working on Ashita no Joe" Even after joining Tezuka Productions, they still wouldnât let me handle Tezuka-senseiâs works. That dream was eventually fulfilled with Black Jack later.
Since I directed the second half of The Rose of Versailles, which is also a work by Ikeda-san, she apparently remembered me, and I imagine there was a conversation suggesting: 'If weâre going to adapt Oniisama E⌠into an anime, it should be done by that person."
I donât usually read shoujo manga a lot. The only ones Iâve read are The Rose of Versailles and Aim for the Ace!, which I personally adapted into anime. I feel embarrassed to admit that I didnât know anything about Oniisama E..., so I quickly read the original work. I found it very interesting. Itâs a story full of selfish characters, and I really love that kind of thing.
Some may think this work differs from my past projects, but even with series like Ashita no Joe and Aim for the Ace!, which are often categorized as âsports dramas,â what I truly want to focus on isnât the sports themselves but the human relationships and drama behind them. Iâm someone who wants to portray drama, so I thought, âOniisama E... is exactly the kind of drama Iâm talking about!â (laughs).
âThis is a world completely unknown to me. How fascinating!â I thought. As men, we donât understand women, do we? There are times I find them amazing, and other times, scary. They are truly an unknown world. Throughout my life, Iâve had relationships with a few women, but thatâs just a small part of the overall picture. In that sense, i just let my imagination run wild and thought, 'It would be amazing if such creatures existed!'. But as I read and tried to understand the original work, I also thought, They are just human beings like us.
Before starting the anime adaptation, I met with Ikeda-san to discuss about it. She didnât provide any detailed requests or instructions in the direction, she simply said, 'Iâll leave it in your hands.' However, she made one exception: she specifically asked that Kaoru no Kimi, who dies in the original work ending, remain alive in the anime.
Ikeda-san's charm as a writer lies in how every character is desperately trying to live. Their actions make sense as you read, and you can empathize with them. They end up this way because they are trying their best. They end up this way because theyâre hurt. They are people who, in regard to what theyâve done, somehow try to take personal responsibility, aren't they? In that sense, I really "understand" them.
The first character to catch my attention was Rei Asaka, or Saint-Juste. First, I just loved the name âSaint-Juste.â It left a strong impression on me because the name appeared in the The Rose of Versailles as the alias of an assassin. The powerful imagery of that story stayed with me. I thought, âThis guy is really fascinating.â However, in the anime, we only managed to explore his character for one or two episodes. Because of that, I wanted to portray Saint-Juste in Oniisama E... as if she were someone transcending time and space. sheâs such a poetic and deeply complex character, isnât she? That's why I had her take pills from the very first episode.
Since it was broadcast on satellite TV, I was told we could push boundaries... This story focuses on adolescents peeking into the adult world, right? So, I figured that kind of portrayal was fitting. All the characters in the story bear emotional scars, donât they? Whether itâs Saint-Juste or Kaoru no Kimi. Nanako was the only one who didnât, which made her think, âI want scars tooâ. Thatâs essentially what the story is about, right?
Mariko Shinobu was also a fascinating character to depict. Her lipstick left a strong impression. When she made her vibrant entrance in the first episode, I remember thinking, âAh, this series might really work.â Every project has a moment where a certain image feels like its the âstarting point,â and for Oniisama E, that was Mariko. Even in the original work, sheâs very impactful. The way her wavering emotions as a young girl are portrayed is truly compelling.
For instance, the way her fatherâs story unfolds feels incredibly realistic. And the way she quickly bonds with Nanako, that kind of behavior feels uniquely feminine, doesnât it? Between men itâs difficult to overcome emotional barriers, and relationships tend to be much more detached. But between women, they can form extraordinarily close bonds, which might later transform into hatred.
If the other person is just a little more attractive or possesses something you lack, you may initially admire them and try to discover what makes them so special. But the moment you realize that quality can never truly be yours, they become your enemy. On the surface, you might get along, but if something sets it off, everything falls apart. You donât even want to see them or hear their voice. You might even go so far as to steal the guy theyâre dating. It can escalate to that level.
Men, I think, suppress those raw emotional instincts to some degree. On the other hand, women live constantly in that kind of emotional tension... That must be exhausting. Well, this is just from my imagination, of course (laughs).
Kaoru no Kimi has a masculine purity, yet she is bound by the fate of being a woman. She is more manly than any man. In a story like this, which features only women, the contrast might raise the question: 'What should a man be like?'
I created a scene where Kaoru no Kimi and Saint-Juste end up in bed together, but this wasnât about homosexuality or anything like that. It was a manifestation of tenderness between two souls, each burdened with their own profound wounds. It was meant to show that something like this could happen. I wanted to portray it beautifully. However, those who saw it may have interpreted it differently (laughs).
As I was working on it, I came to realize that the one carrying the deepest emotional scars was actually Fukiko. When I realized that, she started to resemble to Reika Ryuzaki, aka Madame Butterfly, from Aim for the Ace! I portrayed Madame Butterfly as a woman so exemplary, so beautiful, and so strong that it inevitably leads people to wonder if such perfection hides deep inner struggles. My basic premise is that "the more beautiful a person is, the heavier the burdens they must bear." "The more beautiful they are, the more they must suffer." Of course, it's not always like that in real life. So, I decided to portray Fukiko's past and inner thoughts, as if looking through a magnifying glass. I even started imagining things that werenât in the original work. Especially in the latter half of the series. Fukiko was particularly well-developed.
In terms of expanding the original story, which only consisted of two volumes, into 39 episodes, the writers really worked hard. At that time, Masami Mori also wrote the script for the OVA Black Jack that I directed, she was around 20 years old. Tomoko Komparu was in her 30s, and Chifude Asakura was in her 40s, so we had three female scriptwriters from different generations, and they all worked really hard. I would often ask them things like, "Isnât this really how women are?" or "You must be thinking this, right?" and try to get them to open up their true feelings. Even so, it was hard to get them to reveal their true feelings, but when women write, sometimes there would be lines that would make me think, "Huh?", "A man could never have written this." Iâm not the kind of director who always follows the script to make the storyboard but i used those impactful lines as a starting point, and then I explored the characters complexities. It was a really interesting and stimulating process. Every time I met Ikeda-san, she would ask me, "How do you understand women so well, Dezaki-san?" I would reply, "Eh? I donât understand them at all" (laughs). Itâs all just from my imagination. Iâm sure in reality itâs different, but thatâs how I portrayed it.
I think Akio Sugino probably enjoyed drawing women like Fukiko. Her grace was something only he could depict. Without that grace, her strength wouldnât have been conveyed. That sense of elegance in his artwork was something he must have been born with. Well, thatâs how it is with all of his works, but that quality really contributed strongly to the drama.
For the cast, I had the late sound director Etsuji Yamada think through a lot of things. We had a truly luxurious cast. Among so many experienced professionals, I had Hiroko Kasahara play Nanako. After listening to her audition tape, I felt something from it. However, I believe it was one of her first lead roles in a series. For that, her character was a bit too heavy, donât you think?. She struggled at first, but gradually, she got better. In a way, I think she probably synced well with the character of Nanako, who was gradually growing and developing. For the dubbing, the first episode had the colors already added to the animation, but after that, we mostly recorded with just the finished drawings. Of course, this wasnât something to be praised, but for this particular work, I think it might have actually worked well. The idea was that, by not focusing on synchronizing the voice with the lip movements, the voice actors were able to pour more energy into their performances. There were a lot of heavy lines, after all. Recording authentic, raw dialogue and then matching the animationâs lip movements to it. I think this approach worked well for the piece in the end. There was one time when the animationâs mouth movements and the voice didnât quite match. It was in episode 17, where Fukiko found the letter Nanako wrote to her older brother and scolded Nanako for it. I decided to darken the scene at that moment. The line "Now, rip it in front of me" was a very striking one, so I secretly thought it turned out to be a good effect.

Tim Minear, here's a hint for you:
For BuckTommy, you don't even have to get them back together as a couple immediately.
You can bring Tommy back to give Buck some closure, and Buck can suggest they just be friends because he misses Tommy's company.
So they still hang out with each other and Eddie, and Buck finally feels ready to start dating again. He doesn't mention it to Tommy, but maybe one day someone lets something slip about Buck going on a great date with this amazing guy, and Tommy overhears it.
Since he broke up with Buck, he knows he can't really question Buck about it, but it still irks him for the very obvious reason that he's still in love with Buck but doesn't think it's fair to ask for a second chance after breaking Buck's heart.
But the slight twist is that Buck is genuine friends with the new guy he's dating, and they like to sleep together on occasion, but it's not an actual romantic relationship. Neither one of them are looking for something serious, but they enjoy each other's company. However, that's their own private business, so Buck hasn't told anyone else the details of his situation. He just allows everyone to believe he's dating.
He knows Tommy will find out eventually, but he doesn't want to tell him or bring it up because it'd be awkward.
Tommy is noticeably irritated and a little curt with Buck on the inside, but he maintains his mask perfectly so that Buck never catches on.
Until one night, they're about to leave for a movie, but Buck's "friend" calls and Buck has to cancel his plans with Tommy.
Tommy leaves, very upset and irritated, but he doesn't even make it to his car before he turns around goes back up to Buck's loft. He knows that nothing is official with Buck's friend, so he knocks on the door, and Buck answers it.
Tommy kisses him hard and closes the door behind him. Buck is in shock, much like the first time Tommy kissed Buck.
Tommy then just lets it all out. He tells Buck that he loves him and misses him, and he hates himself for ending things the way they did and for breaking both of their hearts. He says he thought he could handle Buck dating again, but he can't. He's still in love with him and wants him back. He's willing to do anything: seek counseling, starting over, even moving in with Buck on a trial run basis.
Buck starts crying and releases all the emotions/thoughts he's had/felt since Tommy broke up with him. He's angry, rightfully so, that Tommy hurt him and that it took seeing another man in Buck's life for Tommy to make a move. He asks why Tommy waited until now to really say anything. He talks extensively of all the ways Tommy hurt him when they broke up.
Then his final questions for Tommy are "Why now? Why are you willing to make an effort now and not months ago? Do you actually see a future with me? Or are you scared of being alone if I move on?"
Tommy confesses that he's always wanted a future with Buck, but he's scared of getting hurt again. But he acknowledges that Buck is not at fault for the way past partners have treated him, and he should have stayed and talked things over with Buck instead of ending things and walking away.
Buck kisses Tommy and says he misses him and loves him too. Tommy wipes away Buck's tears and kisses him again and again.
After a few smooches, Buck pulls back and clarifies that he's still angry and hurt over the breakup, but he wants to work through it. Tommy promises not to run away like that again, or at the very least tell Buck when he needs space to think something over before making a decision.
Then they work on their relationship until enough time has passed for them to be happily ever after.
Tim Minear, this storyline alone could last you a couple seasons since Tommy is a guest recurring character.
I'm throwing you a lifeline here, so take it and make something with it. Do what white men are known for and steal this idea and make it yours. Come on, you can do it. Prove to folks that you're not just a mediocre white man who skated by on privilege instead of talent.
Because the queer people of color in this fandom are doing a better job of explaining your mess than you are.
That is all.

ok wow, took me 4 hours to read and annotate this.
i love LOVE the banner, it rly like set the mood of the story and i love your editing skills !!
whoops, this is long.
â plot; easily my most fav wonwoo fic. oh god, i was from the moment you announced in front of me was in the works. angsty fic with best friend wonwoo, i was SOLD. plus unrequited love? pining? realistic characters? yes. the angstiest piece written so beautifully and done with so much effort. and this hits way too close to home. i literally felt called out at multiple points of reading. i just love how realistic and gut wrenching this is.
â oc; she's an idiot, i love her. honestly, i feel like she's me lmao. everything from pining like an idiot to the buzzfeed unsolved and aot, man. she's so well sculptured in a way her characterization is realistic. her sensitivity, the willingness to let him walk over her like that, pining, naivety, accepting him no matter what. fucking hell, she wasn't even angry at last, just so tired and soft with her wordings, only breaking down by the very end. she needed a push to take a stand for herself and i'm so glad she did!
â wonwoo; *sighs* the very introduction and he was already being a dick. but goddamn the fact he's genuinely oblivious to it? when i was expecting toxic bsf! wonwoo, i didnt expect him to be a cardboard cut-out of he-who-shall-not-be-named. ig every girl has stumbled across these type of guys. it would've been so easier to hate by just seeing the story from his pov. but introducing his thoughts and views made me fee pity for him. bcz yeah, he's human too and as much as he's despicable, i understand him. a true gray character. his feelings were so complex. the string of relationships that never worked out were so bitter to read about, him ghosting her yet always crawling back, the uncertainty when she started ignoring him, the jealousy, the anger. his character was so raw and human. as much as i feel sympathy for him, sometimes leaving ppl like this behind is the best answer.
â seokmin; ok, i was so enamored by this guy, that i completely overlooked the fact that he could have bad intentions. like?? if you read thru my annotations, i genuinely liked him? even when wonwoo said he knew what he was doing, i thought wonwoo was being stupid. ... until i heard it straight from seokmin. man, the twist? i was so shocked, i dont even know what's gonna happen lmao. this is crazy.
â the friends; i love them from what we've seen of them. the scene with gyu giving him a reality check? fuck yes, you need friends like that. not only was he looking out for her, he was looking out for him too. i loved it!
â annotations;
Your phone beeps indicating that heâs hung up and you can feel the heartstrings pull inside your chest. How many times will it take for Wonwoo to find someone he actually wants to be with? And why is it never you?Â
the angst is already hitting omfgggg
and the prologue feels like the opening to a movie, i love it so much.
âWait, what? You and Wonwoo arenât dating?â Seungcheol asks you, forcing you into the hot seat.Â
asking the real questions here
Looking over at Wonwoo, you anxiously wait for his answer, your chest blooming with hope, only for those buds to be washed away in a millisecond.Â
nooo, but also yesss for the slowburn
âNo, câmon, weâre just friends. Thatâs it, right?â Wonwoo turns to you, trying to get you to back him up.Â
that hurts..
But you sit there, with your heart crushed in your hands, lifeless and shrivelled. Like his words and actions had the power to tear the life out of you. The worst part was that he did all this without knowing. Heâs completely oblivious to your feelings, and you only have yourself to blame.
this is already hitting omfgÂ
He becomes more detached when heâs in a relationship, and youâre okay with that. His priorities change and youâre okay with that. Despite your feelings for him, you know that you canât force him to feel the same way. And you should be okay with that.Â
ow ow ow, ok.Â
but that doesnât mean it doesnât hurt any less to see the person youâre in love with, fall in love with someone else.Â
đ angst is angsting
Having Seungcheol confirm that Wonwoo has never felt anything romantically for you was like a stab in the stomach, and him getting you to back up his words was just him twisting the knife.Â
reading this while im on my periods is gonna punch me in the gut
âItâs alright,â he coos, pulling you into his strong arms. Â
đ§not me serving lanes with seokmin lmao
You have all these examples of why he would probably be the worst boyfriend ever, yet your heart still belongs to him.
been there, done that. i am guilty your honor
You were hoping that he would go, even looking forward to it. Is that pathetic? To want to see him everywhere you go? Maybe you were pathetic to the point where you only felt like hanging out with your friends if he was there.Â
sheâs down bad and attached af but I UNDERSTAND RAHHÂ
He sighs as he sinks into the plush cushions, spreading his legs while he puts his arms up.
đ§âŚ i giggledÂ
Wonwooâs arm circles your shoulder, pulling you closer to him and forcing your head to rest delicately on his broad shoulder.
RAHHHHHHHH đŚ
âOf course, what are best friends for?âÂ
ofc ofc ⌠best friends âŚ
Most people fall in love gradually, slowly growing feelings for the person before they can even call it love. Like the way the seasons steadily turned from winter to spring. Green grass peeking from underneath the melting snow, or flowers gently blooming and unravelling their new set of stems and petals. For you, it was different.
this was so beautiful, i just had to point it out. Annaâs writing >>>>
If anything, falling in love with Wonwoo felt like a snowstorm in the middle of a sunny day.
alexa play, snow on the beach (annaâs version)
He was the shy, scrawny new kid in your class, and no one paid mind to him except you.
fuck, i feel called out
Despite his interest in collecting pokĂŠmon cards and his crooked glasses that were too big for his face, you were in love.Â
is this about me?
You were like two peas in a pod that whole year, and the only time you and Wonwoo spent time apart was when he had to leave during summer break to visit family in Korea.Â
this fucking play is abt me
It annoyed you to see all these people suddenly interested in him. You were angry that just because he grew a few inches and learned to do his hair didnât mean he was that much different from how he was last year.Â
oh fucking hell, anna are you perhaps stalking me??? im having flashbacks
He started to invest more of his time into her until he decided she wasnât worth his energy anymore. Then the calls would come, his contact name flashing across your phone screen to ask you for advice.Â
wonwoo bro, what is this behaviour
Everything that you werenât.
fuck, ok that hurts (i refuse to cry so early)
Others may have tried to rationalize with Wonwoo, but you didnât care. You wanted your friendship with him to turn back to normal. Your adolescent brain ignored that it was wrong to encourage him, as long as he was fully yours again.
ik normally ppl would hate this, so do i. but been there, done that⌠not proud of it
Like a siren to a sailor, your heart sang with deep imagery. Filling your thoughts with illusions of you and Wonwoo finally together. But your mind doesnât let you go without a fight. It knows that beyond the deep waters where your siren-voiced heart lies is nothing but a bottomless pit. The possibilities are endless, and youâd rather stay safely grounded in your boat of rationality.Â
your imagery ???? holy shit, i never thought of the siren metaphor in this way. anna, ur brain >>
âIt's never a problem if itâs you,â he chuckles as you dawdle over to the passenger side of his car.Â
đ§*sighs* pls dont tell me heâs gonna talk like this the entire time. Wtf jeon wonwoo
Watching Wonwoo move to the side as he opens the car door for you. His actions make you blush, and you know youâll think about it for the rest of the night.Â
listen, this is gonna be difficult if he's gonna keep acting like this
His fingers would probably be laced with yours, or rubbing soothingly against your thigh while his other hand gripped the steering wheel. Planting kisses on your cheeks at every red light. It seemed like heaven on the other side. But you knew reality would crush your delusions soon enough.Â
Delulu is the solulu (in fiction)
The only thing that mattered to you was the fact that she was able to bring out Wonwooâs deep laugh. The kind of laugh that only befalls upon your ears when he finds something genuinely funny.
oh here comes the jealousy.
At this point, you werenât sure who to envy, Wonwoo or the girl he was flirting with. You find it unfair that he doesnât realize how greatly he can impact your feelings.Â
asdfghjkl, jealousy is one ugly demon. I hate it
Everything just seemed so unfair, how could you possibly be happy if your feelings for Wonwoo were constantly in the way of it all? Itâs tiring, worrying about him, yearning for him. You could do so many other things with your time, and when you look toward the future, you know that youâll regret how much of your life you wasted loving someone who doesnât love you back.Â
another hit in the gut, it seems so important at that time but looking back, nope.
âHey, look at meââ he grabs your face, gentle as a mouse, rubbing away the tears from your cheeks. âYou are not a burden. We care, thatâs why we worry, and I just want to be there for you.âÂ
đĽşđĽš friends like this >>>
Seokmin is like your favourite childhood blanket, keeping you warm and away from everything that could possibly hurt you. Heâs always willing to hear you rant about things that you know you could never tell Wonwoo.Â
i need a seokmin in my life rn
Jihoon groans as Soonyoung practically breaks out into full song and dance, causing you to sing along with him.
lmao, i love soonyoungÂ
huhu, im so READY for wonwooâs pov
Rejection is foreign to Wonwoo.
I screamed when i saw this, FROM THE TEASER ASDFGHHJKL
He has no control over whether youâre going to text him back or not, and to put it simply, he canât stand that feeling.Â
wow, try being her for a sec, my guy
Sure, maybe Wonwoo is entitled, perhaps heâs conceited and selfish, but he doesnât care.
10 points for self awareness!!
Because in his mind, youâre his best friend.
I folded so fucking fast, im not immune to possessiveness
[wons <3]: saw a bunny running thru the oval today u shouldâve seen it! reminded me of u.Â
i am not immune to jeon wonwoo
The sight of you getting into Seokminâs car made Wonwoo scoff. Since when did you start getting rides home from Seokmin? And why was he the one opening the door for you? Buckling your seatbelt instead of his own? Wonwoo is completely dumbfounded at what he has witnessed.Â
yes yes YES, heâs jellyÂ
Wonwoo initially thought that even if the world ended, you would be there within arms reach, enough to hold you close, where he could keep you safe.
i love his complexity. the most perfectly gray character, like any other human being. I love your characterisation of him so much!!
That hadnât been the case at all, and for the two months that he spent in Changwon, he couldnât help but count the days till he could come back home. Where you had been patiently waiting for him. He despised being away from you, and he had yearned for you every moment he was gone.
Awww, this is cute but knowing howâs he gonna act in the future âŚ.
âYou know, youâre still so skinny for your age. Do your parents not feed you enough?âÂ
i hate these typa relatives ??? like bro LOOK AT URSELF
Faintly recalling how you were planning to stay up late every night to watch BuzzFeed unsolved videos, or until your mom yelled at you to go to bed.Â
AHHH, ANNA U AND ME, WE ARE THE SAME PERSON omg i love buzzfeed unsolved.Â
Wonwoo missed you, and your stupid obsession with horror podcasts and YouTube shows. He missed the way your smile would shine so bright as you talked about all the haunted places the hosts would visit.Â
fuck this reminds me of him. anna, you stalkerÂ
And it was then that Wonwoo realized that he wasnât all that bad-looking, after all.Â
no fuck, everything reminds me of him wtf
He remembers thinking about how soft her hands were, and how pretty she looked with her hair tied up in a messy bun.Â
đ§u have a girl waiting for u back at home but i wont blame him
By the end of summer, Wonwoo started to miss you less and less.
âŚâŚ this hurts
Finally, for the first time in his life, Wonwoo felt serene, and that made him a little more whole than he was when he first landed in Changwon.Â
but i am happy for him. Itâs important to not base ur happiness on someone else !!
On a subconscious level, Wonwoo could not stop comparing Haein to you, and as fucked up as that was, it was completely out of his control.Â
uhâŚ. Wonwoo ??
âIt all makes sense now! Eren had Zeke fooled!âÂ
AOT MENTIONED
âI'm sorry babe, but I gave up after the first episode,â
âŚ. ??? im offendedÂ
He was never able to comprehend why he couldnât keep feelings for anyone after the six-month mark, and it almost frustrated him. Something was missing in every single relationship he had been in, and he wasnât sure what that was. But he was determined to find an answer.Â
⌠yeah i think i know
The answer was you.
There it is
With the amount of near run-ins heâs had with you and Seokmin on campus, heâs begun to sense that itâs some sort of karma. Whatever that karma may be for, he fully believes that itâs completely unwarranted.Â
oh it is warranted, trust me.Â
âServes you right, youâre a dick to her, man.â Mingyu shrugs without any remorse to spare.Â
TELL IT, GIVE IT TO HIM, GYU
âHow blind are you? You have glasses and everything but you canât see how mean you are to her sometimes? Really?â Mingyu almost sounds offended on your behalf as he stares at Wonwoo with an incredulous expression.Â
im hollering lmaooo
Wonwoo is going to throw up. There's a tightness in his chest and a burning sensation behind his eyes.
ok, i feel bad for him.
Not only has he been a terrible friend without realizing it, but heâs pushed you so far to the brink that youâd rather ignore him than attempt to hash out whatâs been troubling you.
poor guy, didnât even realise it.Â
What type of person has Wonwoo become that he resorts to stalking you from the front of your building?
đ idk if i shud laugh im so sorry
That same apologetic attitude died a fiery death after watching Seokmin leave your apartment.Â
nvm, this is so messy and so real
You were fine, and he shouldâve known that the root of all his problems started with the name Lee Seokmin.Â
Bro, just grow a pair and go talk to her instead of coming to conclusions on ur own wtf
The deathly twist in his gut intensifies the more he ponders on what may have happened during Seokminâs visit. Wonwoo desperately wants to stop thinking about the possibilities, especially because your lack of clothing only fueled that inferno inside his mind.Â
wonwoo, arenât you her best friend? her sexual ventures now annoy you, hmmmmmmmm i seeee
Wonwoo yearns for you so much so that it supersedes any part of common sense he has left in him.Â
slow burn, yearning, ah yes the only two things keeping me alive
âThe number you have called is not available, please leave a message at the tone,â an automated voice affirmed his suspicions.Â
đ§âŚ i did not expect her to block him just like that but queen knows her worth !!
âWhat the hell are you doing here?â Both Wonwoo and Seokmin speak in unison.Â
i âŚ.. uhm ⌠this is messy
Minnie. Wonwoo almost threw up in his mouth. Minnie. The nickname is parallel to nails scraping against a chalkboard.Â
i feel bad for him but donât balme her either rahhhhhh
âI could say the same thing for you,â Seokmin mutters, unperturbed, âI didnât have to do anything you know? Just a little push and she fell into my lap, voluntarily.âÂ
HUH?????????? WAIT WHAT. WTF OH NO NO
He was wrong about Seokmin. Even though he had known about his friend's crush on you for years, Wonwoo didnât expect the lengths Seokmin would go to in order to cut him out of the picture.Â
oh âŚ.. oh my god. wtf
He knew you well enough that you wouldnât just block him so carelessly, without a word no less.Â
I KNEW IT
Yet he was no match for Seokmin, not after the fact that you allowed him into your home, your heart, so willingly.Â
Nooooo, wonwoo. i am very shocked by the turn of events
Is this how it feels? To actually care about someone and whether their decisions might affect him later on?Â
damn this alluding to his prev relationships ⌠makes me sick. I mean he didnât know better but still âŚÂ
âDid you fuck him?â Wonwoo cuts to the chase, not leaving any room for you to ask questions.Â
đwtf wonwoo
Wonwoo had no clue, but the thought of his friend-now-enemy defiling you, tasting you, while Wonwoo desperately waited for your call caused him to direct all his anger to you. Perhaps itâs undeserving to do so, but Wonwooâs frustration spoke for him before his brain could even register what he was saying.Â
i get him but boy pls, this is not the way
His urge to self-sabotage overrides his common sense.Â
understandable but stil smh
I fell in love with my best friend, and the worst part was that you didnât care enough to notice.Â
SHE SAID IT, OMG SHE SAID IT
He shouldâve known that you were in front of him this whole damn time.
RAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH đŚ

prologue.Â
Despite your age, youâve never been in a serious relationship. There was always something holding you back, or rather, someone.Â
In all the years youâve known Wonwoo, youâve always thought maybe one day, he would look at you in a different light. Hoping that he could reciprocate the feelings youâve harboured for him since the eleventh grade.Â
He was the one who constantly moved out of relationships. You couldnât even count the amount of late-night calls where he asked you what his ânext stepâ should be. The doting best friend that you are, youâd gladly stay up all night trying to help him fix his girl problems.Â
âI just, I donât have feelings for her anymore. Is that wrong?â he asked you over the phone.Â
Tossing and turning in your bed you let out a deep sigh. One thing is always guaranteed with Wonwoo: in a relationship, he loses feelings quickly. No matter how much he likes the girl, no matter how obsessed or possessive he feels for them at the beginning of it all, it diminishes by the time the six-month mark hits.Â
Although he may be a great friend to you, relationships were never his strong suit.Â
âItâs not wrong to fall out of love, but how many times are you going to break up with someone before you decide to stay?â you ask him, and he pauses to think.Â
âI donât know, but I canât stay, that would make things worse,â he sighs. âItâs better to just stop this whole thing now.âÂ
âI agree, but are you sure?â you continue to ask him the same questions youâve been asking since you were sixteen.Â
âIâm sure,â he replies with a heavy sigh.Â
âOkay, then goodnight. Itâs almost one in the morning,â you try to cut the call, but he continues to speak.Â
âIâm not the bad guy, right?â he asks you for reassurance.Â
âNo, youâre just human Wonwoo. Thereâs nothing wrong with losing feelings for someone,â you affirmed.Â
âAlright, thank you, good night and sweet dreams,â he whispers listlessly.Â
âGood night, Wonwoo.âÂ
Your phone beeps indicating that heâs hung up and you can feel the heartstrings pull inside your chest. How many times will it take for Wonwoo to find someone he actually wants to be with? And why is it never you?Â
act one, favorite crime.
chapter one.Â
âWait, what? You and Wonwoo arenât dating?â Seungcheol asks you, forcing you into the hot seat.Â
The rest of your friend group is boring holes into your face as they all sit around Jeonghanâs living room. The blood rises in your cheeks, but you shake your head anyway.Â
It feels like every time youâre with your friends, they ask you the same set of questions. Constantly wondering why you and Wonwoo havenât thought about dating, or why you two havenât decided to take the chance and just be together.Â
âYou guys need to stop asking that. A guy can befriend someone of the opposite gender,â Wonwoo defends the two of you.Â
âYouâre telling me in all the years youâve known her, you havenât developed feelings for her once?â Cheol continues to instigate, and your eyes go wide.Â
Looking over at Wonwoo, you anxiously wait for his answer, your chest blooming with hope, only for those buds to be washed away in a millisecond.Â
âNo, câmon, weâre just friends. Thatâs it, right?â Wonwoo turns to you, trying to get you to back him up.Â
Your mouth runs dry as he stares at you, his eyebrows rising in anticipation.Â
âU-uh yeah, Wonwooâs right, weâre just friends,â you blurt out, not being able to handle all the expectant eyes on you all at once.Â
âSee? Now can you all just get off our backs?â he chastises.Â
The chatter starts up again, moving past the topic of you and Wonwooâs friendship. But you sit there, with your heart crushed in your hands, lifeless and shrivelled. Like his words and actions had the power to tear the life out of you. The worst part was that he did all this without knowing. Heâs completely oblivious to your feelings, and you only have yourself to blame.
You understand your relationship with Wonwoo is different from most peopleâs, but at the same time, it should be normal for a girl and a guy to just be friends. And at least you respect Wonwooâs feelings, and you also respect that whenever heâs dating someone the dynamic between you two shifts.Â
He becomes more detached when heâs in a relationship, and youâre okay with that. His priorities change and youâre okay with that. Despite your feelings for him, you know that you canât force him to feel the same way. And you should be okay with that.Â
Youâve never tried to get in the way of his love life, or purposefully give him bad advice to ruin what he has with someone else. Not since you were seventeen, and at that time in your life your frontal lobe was a measly speck of dust, but it's different now. Now, your morals donât change just because you love him, but that doesnât mean it doesnât hurt any less to see the person youâre in love with, fall in love with someone else.Â
two.Â
âHey, you okay?â Seokmin approaches you, and you turn your head, acknowledging his presence.Â
âHuh? Yeah, Iâm alright,â you mutter, but you know you donât look that way.Â
Seokmin has known you since high school and has seen you through everything, probably more than Wonwoo. He knows when youâre not feeling well. A sympathetic permanent on his lips as he continues to observe you play with the food on your plate, pushing around the food aimlessly but never taking a bite.Â
The sounds of people conversing throughout the dining hall never die down. But luckily, the commotion keeps your thoughts of Wonwoo at bay, or at least thatâs what you like to think. But your heart canât seem to let go of that moment from the other day. Having Seungcheol confirm that Wonwoo has never felt anything romantically for you was like a stab in the stomach, and him getting you to back up his words was just him twisting the knife.Â
âWhatâs the matter, sweetheart? You can tell me,â he sighs, pushing the hair covering your face and placing it behind your ear.Â
You can feel the tears start to pool, but you try your damndest not to let them spillânot like this, not in front of so many people.Â
âIt was just something Wonwoo said when we were all at Hannieâs house,â you mumble, refusing to make eye contact with your friend.Â
âWhat did he say?âÂ
âThat heâs never liked me before,â you sigh, feeling a tear slip from your eye.Â
Cursing yourself in your head, you hate how much your feelings for him affect you. You hate how he doesnât have to even be in front of you, yet he can still cause your emotions to fluctuate.Â
âItâs alright,â he coos, pulling you into his strong arms.Â
It felt weird, to hug Seokmin so tightly in the middle of your universityâs dining hall. But youâre thankful for how aware he is, how he actually cares about your feelings. You felt melodramatic sitting there crying in the fucking dining hall of all places, but you couldnât help but let your tears flow as Seokmin comforts you with his soft voice.Â
âYou deserve more than this, I hope you know that,â he whispers in your ear.
three.Â
Over the next few days, the words Seokmin had whispered to you kept replaying in your head. You did deserve better and looking at all of Wonwooâs past relationships is the perfect example. Heâs not exactly the ideal boyfriend, so why did you even have feelings for him in the first place?
You could feel a migraine coming on from how hard you were thinking, but Wonwoo still seems to be the only person you canât let go of. No matter how many times youâve tried.Â
A knock on your door brings you out of your thoughts. It was late, and you donât remember anyone messaging you saying that they were going to come over, but you open the door anyway.Â
âHey, sorry I didnât text,â Wonwoo moves past you, takes his shoes off, and plops on your couch.Â
âItâs okay, whatâs up?â you move to sit beside him.Â
âI broke up with her,â He says, shrugging.Â
Taken aback by his nonchalance, your eyes widen. He seems calm for someone who has just broken up with his girlfriend. But you try not to think too hard about it, or you might just have to take another Advil to remedy your already growing headache.Â
âWell, how did it go?â you ask with a bit of apprehension.Â
Knowing Wonwoo, you knew that he probably just dumped her over the phone or something. Heâs never been bothered to really break up with someone.Â
You have all these examples of why he would probably be the worst boyfriend ever, yet your heart still belongs to him. Itâs pitiful, to say the least, people probably would think that youâre a masochist because you subject yourself to staying by his side when he has feelings for another.Â
âShe was crying, but at least itâs over now,â Wonwoo informs you as he eats the snacks you had left on your coffee table.Â
âOh.â You could feel the guilt start to seep into your veins.Â
It never felt good to hear Wonwoo talk about his breakups, but youâre not sure how to react. Thereâs a part of you thatâs happy to know that heâs single again, but the majority of you pities the girl who had just gotten her heart broken.Â
Wonwoo continues to munch on the snacks left on your table while your mind tries to process the information youâve been given. Hearing him talk so casually about his breakup leaves a bitter taste in your mouth, but you decide to switch topics instead of asking any more questions.Â
âAre you still going to Seokminâs thing this weekend, though?â you ask him, trying to fill the air with something to drown out your rapid heartbeats.Â
He shrugs his shoulders, âIf I feel like it. Are you?âÂ
The bottom of your stomach tightens. You were hoping that he would go, even looking forward to it. Is that pathetic? To want to see him everywhere you go? Maybe you were pathetic to the point where you only felt like hanging out with your friends if he was there.Â
âI mean, I donât have a ride soâŚâ you trail off, pretending to pay attention to whatever was playing on the T.V. screen.Â
âIâll go since youâre going, that way you have a ride,â he mumbles, adjusting his posture to lean back on your couch.Â
He sighs as he sinks into the plush cushions, spreading his legs while he puts his arms up. Youâre very aware of his proximity, and you try not to let it show. But the smell of his cologne invades your senses, knocking the breath out of your chest.Â
Wonwooâs arm circles your shoulder, pulling you closer to him and forcing your head to rest delicately on his broad shoulder. Exhaling, you let yourself enjoy his way of showing affection. Although to him it means nothing, and to you, quite literally everything.Â
âThank you for agreeing to go to Seokminâs so I have a ride,â you whisper but still avoid eye contact so he doesnât notice your flustered expression.Â
âThank you for letting me barge in here just so I can talk about my breakup,â he whispers back, kissing the top of your head.Â
âOf course, what are best friends for?âÂ
four.Â
Most people fall in love gradually, slowly growing feelings for the person before they can even call it love. Like the way the seasons steadily turned from winter to spring. Green grass peeking from underneath the melting snow, or flowers gently blooming and unravelling their new set of stems and petals. For you, it was different.
Falling in love with Wonwoo wasnât gradual at all.Â
If anything, falling in love with Wonwoo felt like a snowstorm in the middle of a sunny day. Your affection for him grew rapidly, and before you knew it, your mind was clouded with him and him only. It became hard to stay rational as if you were driving down a snow-filled road without any control over the steering wheel. Swerving into different lanes, your brakes malfunction, making it hard to bring your car to a full stop. Falling in love with Wonwoo was not gradual or easy.
When you met him on the first day of your junior year of high school, your sixteen-year-old brain couldnât fully comprehend your crush on him. He was the shy, scrawny new kid in your class, and no one paid mind to him except you. But that didnât stop you from liking him. Despite his interest in collecting pokĂŠmon cards and his crooked glasses that were too big for his face, you were in love.Â
You were like two peas in a pod that whole year, and the only time you and Wonwoo spent time apart was when he had to leave during summer break to visit family in Korea.Â
When he returned for your senior year, you could barely recognize him. Suddenly the nerdy Wonwoo you knew was gone. His glasses complimented his face, his hair was styled differently, and most of all, he got hot. A lot of your classmates mustâve seemed to agree because now your best friend and the man youâre in love with gained attention from people who didnât even bat an eyelash at him last year.Â
It annoyed you to see all these people suddenly interested in him. You were angry that just because he grew a few inches and learned to do his hair didnât mean he was that much different from how he was last year.Â
Even though Wonwoo was in a relationship, he still stayed true to your friendship. He still hung out with you, ate lunch with you, you even came over on weekends to have dinner with his family. Day by day, your love for him strengthened, and you ignored that his attention had been divided between you and his girlfriend at the time.Â
When their relationship hit three months, it seemed your friendship had come to an abrupt halt. He didnât invite you for dinner as often, you two didnât talk on the phone every other night. He started to invest more of his time into her until he decided she wasnât worth his energy anymore. Then the calls would come, his contact name flashing across your phone screen to ask you for advice.Â
âI feel like I need to break up with Haein,â his deep voice flowed through your phone speaker. A sigh left his lips as he faced the truth.Â
Haein was Wonwooâs first girlfriend. She was nice, almost too nice. Wonwoo definitely had a type for girls with a bubbly personality. Ones that were effortlessly beautiful, reminiscent of a freshly made porcelain doll. That was Haein to you, unblemished in every way possible. Everything that you werenât.
You couldnât bring yourself to hate her. She was too nice to hate, but your younger self was so angry at how much of Wonwoo's time she took up that you envied her. Seokmin once jokingly mentioned that you looked especially green when she was around, and you remember how quickly you checked your appearance on the nearest reflective surface because of what he had said in passing. You remember vividly how nervous his words made you, was it that obvious?
Wonwooâs first time calling you about his breakup plans was a delightful surprise, and you were too in shock to sputter out a proper response.
âOh. Why?â was all you could say, still stunned that after a week of no contact, this was the first thing he said.Â
ââDunno, I just donât like her anymore,â he admitted effortlessly.Â
You didnât know how to respond. Your heart was screaming at you to encourage him to break up with his girlfriend at the time, while your brain was telling you to think logically.Â
âWell, if thatâs what you think is right,â you mumbled, trying to hide the fact that you felt a sense of relief at Wonwoo potentially being single again.Â
Others may have tried to rationalize with Wonwoo, but you didnât care. You wanted your friendship with him to turn back to normal. Your adolescent brain ignored that it was wrong to encourage him, as long as he was fully yours again.
History repeated itself over and over, and the older you got, you learnt to not be so selfish with his attention. Mostly out of guilt for the person he was going to break up with, but also because you didnât want Wonwoo to realize your true feelings.Â
Although being in love with Wonwoo was brutal, you constantly wished that things were different between you two, but they werenât. Heâs never seen you as more than a friend, and as your friendship with him progressed, you had begun to learn to mask your romantic feelings for platonic ones.Â
five.Â
By the time you entered university, you had mastered the art of pretending. As if your feelings for Wonwoo didnât exist. You are quite meticulous in ensuring that he never realizes that you are profoundly in love with him. The mere thought of him finding out how you truly felt frightened you.Â
Youâve already envisioned countless scenarios on how it could go. The idea of being rejected by the one you love most. It would change everything about your friendship with him. The look of pity in his eyes, the apologies that would spill out of his mouth. You can't bear even the thought of rejection. Not from him.Â
Two voices are constantly at war inside your mind. Your brain, acting as the voice of reason, constantly reminds you that itâs better to preserve your friendship. To keep the dynamic youâve always had with Wonwoo guarded where it could last, thrive. While your heart persuaded you with deluded, fake scenarios.Â
âWhat if he likes you back?âÂ
âYou never know until you try.âÂ
âTake the risk or lose the chance.âÂ
What if.Â
Like a siren to a sailor, your heart sang with deep imagery. Filling your thoughts with illusions of you and Wonwoo finally together. But your mind doesnât let you go without a fight. It knows that beyond the deep waters where your siren-voiced heart lies is nothing but a bottomless pit.Â
The possibilities are endless, and youâd rather stay safely grounded in your boat of rationality.Â
A notification brings you out of your thoughts. Although you already knew that it was Wonwoo, you scramble to pick up your phone. Thereâs excitement laced in your veins as you look down at the screen.Â
7:06 p.m. [wons <3]: be there in 5.Â
There was no reason for you to be so ecstatic but you couldnât help it. He had already texted you prior, notifying you that he was leaving his place to come pick you up, and yet every time your phone buzzes, you still hope that itâs something completely different. But that was your heart talking; you knew that it wouldnât be anything out of the ordinary.Â
Everyone had planned to meet at Seokminâs place today, just to have one last celebration before midterms began again. You had happily agreed, enthusiastic that you could spend more time with Wonwoo, although it wouldnât be a one-on-one thing. You were more than elated to see him while also being able to hang out with the rest of your friends.Â
Throwing your phone back on the bed, you change into an outfit that is both cute and comfortable. There wasnât a reason to dress up when the vibe at Seokminâs was just going to be sitting around his living room, drinking cocktails and eating pizza.Â
Wonwoo texts you once more to let you know heâs outside, causing you to race down to meet him. A lump in your throat arises, as he comes into your field of vision, appreciating how breathtakingly handsome he is.Â
The chilled breeze brushes through the strands of his hair, glasses perched on his tall nose. He looked amazing, just like he always had, but you never get bored of admiring him. Even if itâs just from afar.Â
âHi! Sorry if I kept you waiting,â your voice resounds into the night.Â
âIt's never a problem if itâs you,â he chuckles as you dawdle over to the passenger side of his car.Â
Trying not to read too deep into his words, you snort at his cheesy line instead of giving a response. Watching Wonwoo move to the side as he opens the car door for you. His actions make you blush, and you know youâll think about it for the rest of the night.Â
âAre you ready to go?â he asks, smiling at you.Â
The ride to Seokminâs house is fairly quiet, the sounds of music filling the silence instead. Your thoughts are overflowing with scenarios once again, wondering how different the car ride would be if you and Wonwoo were in a relationship. His fingers would probably be laced with yours, or rubbing soothingly against your thigh while his other hand gripped the steering wheel. Planting kisses on your cheeks at every red light. It seemed like heaven on the other side. But you knew reality would crush your delusions soon enough.Â
âŚ
The clock on Seokminâs pale white wall is nearing midnight and you donât want to be here anymore. Not when the only thing you could focus on was Wonwoo flirting with a girl whose name you didnât catch. Sheâs Joshuaâs childhood friend and he only brought her along because sheâs visiting from out of town. Whoever she was, it didnât matter. The only thing that mattered to you was the fact that she was able to bring out Wonwooâs deep laugh. The kind of laugh that only befalls upon your ears when he finds something genuinely funny.
The ugly swirl of jealousy sits in the pit of your stomach and you couldn't help but scoff at your wretched situation. It made you sick watching them, and you could throw up any minute now. At this point, you werenât sure who to envy, Wonwoo or the girl he was flirting with. You find it unfair that he doesnât realize how greatly he can impact your feelings.Â
Just a few hours ago, you were in utter bliss. Sitting in the front seat of his car, listening to the music softly playing on the ride to Seokminâs apartment. Making stupid jokes and pointing out the random sights that you had seen while driving down the bustling city streets. You envy how easy it is for Wonwoo to make all those feelings of delight vanish. And he doesnât even know. He doesnât know what heâs doing to you, and thatâs what hurts the most.Â
âYou doing okay?â Seokmin comes up to you, placing a gentle hand on your shoulder, squeezing it affectionately.Â
âHuh? Oh. Yeah Iâm okay,â you chuckle, but thereâs nothing humorous about your laugh at all.Â
His eyes soften, he knows that youâre not okay. Seokmin always knew. After all these years, he can tell when youâre trying to save face. Thereâs a lump in your throat, and if you didnât have a drink to sip on to distract you, you probably wouldâve gone to the bathroom to cry.Â
âYou wanna talk in my room?â he offers, and youâre grateful.Â
Seokmin knew he had to get you somewhere other than the living room. You were practically torturing yourself, sitting on the couch and watching Wonwoo talk to everyone but you.Â
Instead of agreeing vocally, you nod your head before standing up to follow Seokmin to his room. The door shuts softly, muffling the sounds of laughter and allowing your uneasiness to finally subside.Â
As you sit on Seokminâs bed, you feel the tears starting to trickle down your cheeks. It feels pathetic, crying over something so trivial. Why does it have to be you who feels this way? Why canât you just be a normal friend and see Wonwoo in a platonic light? The whole world could turn upside and heâd be the first person you search for.Â
Everything just seemed so unfair, how could you possibly be happy if your feelings for Wonwoo were constantly in the way of it all? Itâs tiring, worrying about him, yearning for him. You could do so many other things with your time, and when you look toward the future, you know that youâll regret how much of your life you wasted loving someone who doesnât love you back.Â
âItâs okay, just let it out,â Seokmin whispers in your ear, embracing you in a tight hug.Â
Crying felt good. You rarely cry over your situation despite how upsetting it is. For the first time in a while, you allowed yourself to finally indulge in your sadness and let go of everything you were too afraid to say or feel. Â
âI know it sucks right now, but honestly, it might be time to get over him,â Seokmin continues to comfort you while trying to help you face the reality of your situation. âYouâre so hurt, and itâs taking a toll on you. Please, I canât bear to see you so sad.âÂ
His words hit you hard because you know it's true. But all you can do is apologize. Saying sorry for feeling this way, even though itâs not your fault, you cannot control your feelings, you still apologize. To Seokmin, to your friends, but also yourself.Â
âI-Iâm sorry,â you hiccup, tears staining Seokminâs white shirt.Â
âWhy are you sorry? You did nothing wrong,â he mutters, his large hand patting your head, trying to soothe your fit of emotions.Â
âBecause, if I was normal, you wouldnât have to worry about me, about why Iâm always upset, you and the others, my feelings are burdening all of you,â you continue to weep softly in his arms, gripping onto his shoulders as his hands encircle your waist.Â
âHey, look at meââ he grabs your face, gentle as a mouse, rubbing away the tears from your cheeks. âYou are not a burden. We care, thatâs why we worry, and I just want to be there for you.âÂ
âThank you, Seokmin. Iâm so happy that I have someone like you in my life,â you pull him into a hug again, knocking the air out of his chest, but heâs still somehow able to hug you even tighter.Â
Seokmin is like your favourite childhood blanket, keeping you warm and away from everything that could possibly hurt you. Heâs always willing to hear you rant about things that you know you could never tell Wonwoo.Â
âIâm so tired, Iâm tired of feeling like this,â you admit to him.Â
Running his hands through your hair, he gives you a reassuring smile.Â
âMaybe itâs time to distance yourself from him a bit, you two have been glued to the hip for so long. Maybe that distance can help organize your feelings better,â he mutters, catching the stray tears that pool at your chin, and wiping them away for you.Â
âI want to feel better,â you agree with him, still trying to recover from how hard you were sobbing into his chest.Â
âI care about you, okay? We all do. Wonwoo cares about you, too, but thereâs a point where youâll have to be okay with whatever outcome happens if you decide to tell him how you feel. Or you just have to find a way to get over him,â he speaks softly, trying not to crush your heart with reality, but you know heâs right. âIn the Future, you will thank yourself for making whatever decision you have to make, but trust me, holding all these feelings in wonât do you any good.â He ends his pep talk there, and you sigh, trying to process everything he said.Â
âThank you, Minnie, Iâm so thankful I have you,â you sniffled.Â
âAnd I you.âÂ
âŚ
Seokmin explained to Soonyoung and Jihoon that you needed to go home after your talk in his bedroom. They were more than happy to take you along with them before heading back to their place, not wanting to force you into a car with Wonwoo at the end of the night.Â
âOf course, itâs really no trouble at all,â Soonyoung reassures you after you had asked about a million times if it was okay to ride home with them.Â
The car ride is drastically different from the one you had taken on the way to Seokminâs, Soonyoung being the number one reason why. Heâs not the best at reading the room, although Jihoon is constantly telling him to shut up. He knows you are upset over something, but Soonyoungâs way of cheering you up is getting you to laugh. While Jihoon believed that you may want a more peaceful environment after everything that happened.Â
As Jihoon drove, Soonyoung sang along with the lyrics of the current song playing. Loud enough for anyone outside the car to hear him. You could tell he was a bit tipsy after the few beers he had earlier, but you didnât mind the noise. Jihoon begged to differ.Â
âSoon, can you tone it down? Please. People are looking at us,â Jihoon grumbles, trying to focus on the road ahead.Â
âBut you love it when I sing,â Soonyoung whines, and you canât help but laugh.Â
âI do, but our friend has had a long night,â Jihoon counters.Â
Soonyoung turns to face you from the passenger seat. âIf you want me to be quiet, I will.âÂ
âNo, itâs okay, Iâm actually enjoying it, thank you very much,â you giggle, and that was all the confirmation he needed, going back to his antics.Â
Jihoon groans as Soonyoung practically breaks out into full song and dance, causing you to sing along with him. This distraction from all the conflicting thoughts gives you a refuge from the war inside your mind. Â
The whole way back to your place was filled with singing and laughter, allowing you to finally feel at ease for once. Albeit Jihoon pretended to act annoyed the whole time, you knew he secretly loved how Soonyoung tried to bring the mood back up to help you.Â
Once you got home, you thanked the two before bidding them farewell. Apprehension flowed throughout you, and you didn't want to be alone with your thoughts after being around someone as cheerful as Soonyoung. But you didnât know where else to go or what else to do.
Laying in your bed, you think about how today went from beginning to end, and youâre scared of what will happen in the future. Sighing to yourself, you allow yourself to at least get some rest instead of staying up all night thinking about the possibilities of tomorrow. Turning your phone on "do not disturb," the stillness in your apartment lulls you to sleep.Â
1:09 a.m. [wons <3]: seokmin said u went home early? u ok?Â
ARE WE STILL FRIENDS?
chapter one.Â
Wonwooâs ride home was sombre, yet desolate. Your absence from his passenger seat irked him. Street lights whisk by his vision in a blur, but heâs too lost in his thoughts as he drives on autopilot, wondering why you went home so early. You didnât even say goodbye. Itâs the first time you went home from Seokminâs place without him.Â
By the time he got home, his curiosity had started to claw at him, but he didnât want to be irrational and assume the worst. So he texted you, hoping that there would be an explanation awaiting him in the morning.Â
Not a single notification from you came that very next morning. No matter how many times his phone went off, no matter how many notifications popped up from his screen. None of them were you. Morning turned to afternoon, and afternoon slowly turned into night. Still nothing.Â
He feels dejected. Everything seemed to be going okay just last night. That was until you abruptly left without telling him you were going home. What changed? Why did it feel like there was a shift between you two?Â
Rejection is foreign to Wonwoo. Most times, itâs him thatâs doing the rejecting. He was the one to always initiate the breakup and lose feelings first; every decision he made was made by him. He has no control over whether youâre going to text him back or not, and to put it simply, he canât stand that feeling.Â
Wonwoo hates not being in control. Whether that be his future, his relationships, and especially his feelings. At least thatâs what he forces himself to believe. That itâs not fair of you to ignore him when heâs worried about you, because heâs your best friend. You should answer him when he texts you. When he calls you, and especially when he shows up at your door, seeking your comfort. In his mind, that is what he believes the foundation of your friendship is. To comfort each other, just like it always has been.Â
Sure, maybe Wonwoo is entitled, perhaps heâs conceited and selfish, but he doesnât care. Because in his mind, youâre his best friend. There was no way in hell that you were ignoring him. His ego doesnât even consider it a possibility. You were busy, thatâs it. That has to be it.Â
âŚÂ
Less than forty-eight hours in, Wonwoo couldnât stop himself from texting you once more. Nimble fingers practically itching to open your contact to update you about the most mundane things. Maybe if he pretended that this moment of silence was perfectly normal, then maybe you would eventually end up answering him.Â
12:36 p.m [wons <3]: class just finished. lunch at our usual place?
Nothing. Not even a thumbâs up reaction. Wonwoo had become antsy, guilt and slight annoyance gnawing at the pit of his stomach. Where the hell are you? What are you doing thatâs so important that you couldnât even open his message let alone read them?Â
1:27 p.m. [wons <3]: this random girl asked for my number after class lol. weird right? i didnât give it to her though đ
Cursing at himself, he regrets pressing the send button on that text. Double texting you is already out of the norm for him, but triple texting? He canât believe how desperate he looks right now. He wishes he could bring himself to unsend it, but he just hopes itâll be the text that finally gets you to respond.Â
2:10 p.m. [wons <3]: saw a bunny running thru the oval today u shouldâve seen it! reminded me of u. [1 photo attachment]Â
Absolute radio silence from your end. Wonwoo is starting to think that you had him blocked, but his messages are still delivering. Unsure of whatâs worse, you ignoring him or blocking his number, Wonwoo still tries his best to remain calm.
4:00 p.m. [wons <3]: im about to head home soon. r u riding w me today?Â
The sight of you getting into Seokminâs car made Wonwoo scoff. Since when did you start getting rides home from Seokmin? And why was he the one opening the door for you? Buckling your seatbelt instead of his own? Wonwoo is completely dumbfounded at what he has witnessed.Â
4:30 p.m. [wons <3]: saw u get into seokminâs car, lmk if u need a ride tmrw.Â
Seeing you laugh and smile while walking to the student parking lot with Seokmin, of all people, solidified the fact that you are actively ignoring his texts. And he just canât stand the thought of it. How dare he be ignored? Especially by his best friend, the one person who had always responded to him, no matter the time or how busy you were, you always texted him back.Â
Wonwoo initially thought that even if the world ended, you would be there within arms reach, enough to hold you close, where he could keep you safe. You were predictable in that sense. But if the world decided to burst into flames, or swallow itself whole tomorrow, heâs unsure if you would be there right next to him by the time he woke up.Â
two, wonwooâs summer before senior year.Â
The school year flew by with the speed of light. And before Wonwoo knew it, he was home back in Korea for the summer. The dreaded fifteen-hour plane ride over was excruciating. There was an ache in his lower back, and his knees felt like they were being struck by a hammer with every step he took. But at least the worst part was over.Â
Sixteen-year-old Wonwoo was quite naive, thinking that heâd be welcomed into his home country with loving arms. That hadnât been the case at all, and for the two months that he spent in Changwon, he couldnât help but count the days till he could come back home. Where you had been patiently waiting for him.Â
He despised being away from you, and he had yearned for you every moment he was gone. With you by his side, Wonwoo had finally understood the true meaning of solace, a peace of mind that couldnât be replicated. Not even the fresh air that breezed through his fingers or the scent of the salty water misting its way onto the shore of his hometown could outweigh the feeling of tranquillity that he got when he was with you.
Every year that Wonwoo was dragged back to Korea by his parents was excruciating. Especially because he had a certain distaste for his relatives. Maybe it was disrespectful to loathe them the way he did, but he couldnât care less. Their scathing comments would flow out of their mouths just to pierce daggers of judgement into his back. To insult Wonwoo was second nature to his aunts, and he couldnât do much but sit back and listen. Â
Much to his dismay, his parents hadnât even bothered to book an Airbnb for their stay, informing him and his brother that they would be staying with his aunt. He couldnât stand his aunt Seo-Ah in particular, and he swore the feeling was mutual. Unsure of why he had to withstand her crude remarks in front of his family without much protest, he forced himself not to dish out rude rebuttals to everything she had to say.Â
There was a time when Wonwoo tried to reason with himself on why his aunt was filled with so much bitterness, but he gave up on that long ago. He was about to be seventeen now, and he couldnât bring himself to empathize with the older lady anymore.Â
âWonwoo! Youâre all grown up now, and I canât believe it,â Seo-Ah forced him into a bone-crushing hug as he tried his best not to push her off of him. She pulled back to take a closer look at him and he could already see the scrutinizing gleam in her eyes, âYou know, youâre still so skinny for your age. Do your parents not feed you enough?âÂ
Wonwoo wanted to scoff at her, but he kept a neutral expression.Â
âNo they do, I donât know maybe itâs my fast metabolism or something,â he refuted her claims. He couldnât wait to get out of her sight.Â
âYou know, maybe you should start going to the gym, get some muscle on you or something,â she patted his lanky arm and laughed that dreadful laugh. The ones that have no real humour behind it, just to cover up the obvious dig she took at his appearance.Â
âYeah maybe,â he dismisses her to head into the house. Setting his luggage down to check whether or not youâve texted him yet.Â
It was about five in the evening in Changwon, but he knew you wouldnât be asleep. Faintly recalling how you were planning to stay up late every night to watch BuzzFeed unsolved videos, or until your mom yelled at you to go to bed.Â
[4:15 p.m. kst] [you: i stayed up all night watching buzzfeed unsolved] [you: im going crazy i keep getting paranoid to the point iâve turned all my mirrors backwards] [you: hope ur flight was ok tho!!! đŤś]
He chuckled to himself, remembering your wide eyes and elaborate plan to sneak snacks into your room in the early hours of the morning behind your parentsâ backs. Wonwoo missed you, and your stupid obsession with horror podcasts and YouTube shows. He missed the way your smile would shine so bright as you talked about all the haunted places the hosts would visit.Â
Wonwoo did not care for horror or anything scary, but if you were to ask him to stay up all night on Facetime binge-watching your little Buzzfeed videos, he would do so in a heartbeat.Â
Two days down, about another 89 to go, Wonwoo thought to himself as he looked through your messages with him. You had already spammed the chat mercilessly about your first two days of summer break, and your intricate mission to stay up without accidentally falling asleep in the middle of it all.Â
[6:00 p.m. kst] [1 photo attachment] [you: currently trying to sneak snacks into my room without my mom knowing] [you: u better not snitch đž] [you: its so boring w out u here btw SO COME BACK SOON PLSS] [you: ok thats enuffâŚtxt me when u land!]
Wonwoo really missed you.Â
âŚ
One more week and Wonwoo would finally get to see you again. The ability to talk to you in person, hug you, and spend time with you gave him something to look forward to, and thankfully, summer break went by fast because of it.Â
He had spent most of his time in Korea eating at local food spots, going to the gym, and trying a lot of new things with his brother, Seongho, giving them time to bond before he went off to University again. Wonwoo had missed his brother dearly during the school year, but at least they were able to pass the time together during summer break.Â
It was initially his brotherâs convincing that got him to go to the gym for the very first time. The idea of going to a place with a lot of sweaty, adrenaline-filled people kind of frightened him, but the more he went, the more he started to like what he saw in the mirror. Wonwooâs shoulders had broadened, and his lanky arms finally started to show signs of muscles. He was satisfied in knowing that all of his hard work, and Seonghoâs encouragement had finally paid off.Â
Seongho told him he looked a lot more carefree now that he wasnât so worried about his appearance all the time. And it was then that Wonwoo realized that he wasnât all that bad-looking, after all.Â
Wonwoo had begun to take pride in his vanity. He searched for different ways to style his hair, bought glasses that better suited his face shape, and, most of all, did his best to act more confidently. The sudden change made him wonder how you would react. He had been anticipating your reaction, wanting to see the look on your face once he returned home.Â
âYou got it. Just one more rep, and we can switch,â Seongho encouraged Wonwoo as he tried to push the bar up from his chest.Â
His muscles were aching in the most addictive and satisfying way. He almost wished he had started working out earlier because only good things seemed to have come ever since he stepped foot into the gym.Â
âOkay! Youâre done, that was good,â his older brother high-fived him, a proud smile dancing along his lips.Â
âThanks, but my arms feel like jelly now,â he huffed a chuckle before gulping down the contents of his water bottle.Â
Seongho chuckled along with him before setting himself down on the workout bench. His actions faltered, and he slowly observed the mirror in front of him, raising his eyebrows in amusement.Â
âUh, donât look now, but I think that girl is staring at you,â Seongho tilted his head in the girlâs direction and Wonwoo couldnât be more confused.Â
âHuh? Are you sure it's me theyâre looking at and not you?âÂ
âIâm serious! You should go talk to her,â Seongho grinned, pushing his younger brother in the direction of the girl who was supposedly eyeing Wonwoo.Â
âHyung!â Wonwoo calls out but it falls on deaf ears as his older brother begins his bench presses.Â
Wonwoo turns towards the girl in the most awkward way humanly possible. He was completely dumbfounded and not sure what to do in the situation heâd been put in. The girl who was staring at him waved flirtatiously, and before he could even think about his next move, his feet had begun to move on their own accord.Â
âHi, I saw you working out over there, are you new here?â she asked him, batting her eyelashes.Â
âUhm, I guess? Iâm only here for the summer though,â he spoke with apprehension, because what the hell was he even supposed to say?Â
âOh! Me too. My name is Haein, by the way.â Haeinâs smile reached her eyes as she giggled, and her hand extended to shake Wonwooâs.Â
Wonwooâs actions were practically robotic, rubbing his sweaty palms on his gym shorts before taking her hand in his. He remembers thinking about how soft her hands were, and how pretty she looked with her hair tied up in a messy bun.Â
âIâm Wonwoo.âÂ
âWonwoo, hmm, thatâs a cute name. But I think I would like it more in my contacts,â she flirted shamelessly, her fingers squeezing his sweaty bicep.Â
Wonwooâs mind short-circuited, and he took out his phone from his pocket so fast it almost slipped out of his grasp. Haein found it endearing though, and happily gave him her phone number.Â
They talked for the rest of Wonwoo's time at the gym and promised to hang out more before they both went home at the end of the summer.Â
To put it simply, Wonwoo was on cloud nine for the first time since heâs been here. Suddenly his aunt Seo-Ahâs words werenât so hurtful, his confidence had skyrocketed, plus he had a beautiful girl to talk to for the rest of his vacation.Â
By the end of summer, Wonwoo started to miss you less and less. Even though he still saw you as his best friend, he began to find peace in other things, like the fresh air that breezed through his fingers or the scent of the salty water misting its way onto the shore of his hometown. Finally, for the first time in his life, Wonwoo felt serene, and that made him a little more whole than he was when he first landed in Changwon.Â
âŚ
The after-effects of Wonwooâs surprisingly pleasant summer vacation hadnât worn off just yet. The gift of Haein appearing in his life seemed to just keep on giving. Not only did she live overseas, she had told him that she was actually from the same city as him. It was a little hard to believe at first as if he was the main character in a cheesy rom-com, but he couldnât find it in him to complain. Haein made him feel wanted, excited, and cared for.Â
Wonwoo wasnât entirely devoid of those feelings, especially with you as his best friend, but it was different coming from Haein. Every time he saw her, he felt like he was going to throw up, in a good way of course, but she also boosted his confidence. He liked that she made him feel like he was a man worth depending on.Â
Haein was his first real relationship, and although he was still young, he could see himself being with her for a long time.Â
âŚ
Quite like the seasons, Wonwooâs feelings for Haein changed drastically by the time school was back in session. Although he and Haein lived in the same city, there was a lot more than just distance that separated them.Â
Six months into their relationship, Wonwoo began to doubt himself. He was less eager to meet her or even text her. He could only blame himself for how things turned out with Haein. Despite his adolescence, he believed he loved her; he just got tired and disinterested.Â
On a subconscious level, Wonwoo could not stop comparing Haein to you, and as fucked up as that was, it was completely out of his control. Why didnât Haein ever want to talk about what Wonwoo was interested in? Why did she seem bored out of her mind when he would delve into his theories about his favourite shows? Or anything about himself and what he liked. As though she didnât see him for the Wonwoo he was, the personality he had behind his looks.Â
âIt all makes sense now! Eren had Zeke fooled!â Wonwoo couldnât contain his excitement about the newest episode, but Haein didnât seem interested in hearing her boyfriend geek out.Â
âI'm sorry babe, but I gave up after the first episode,â Haein sighed into the phone, and if Wonwoo could guess, she was probably picking at her cuticles out of boredom. âI just didnât get anything that was happening.âÂ
âWait, really?â He was a little offended, how could she not be obsessing over the beautiful intricacies of his favourite anime? Wonwoo didnât understand.Â
He didnât understand because when he introduced you to the show, you texted him the next day saying you were caught up to where he had left off. It amazed Wonwoo how fast you were at binge-watching shows, especially because he had told you about it on a weekday.Â
You came into school the morning after with dark circles under your eyes, but even with that tired look on your face, you ran up to him with so much eagerness while thanking him for urging you to watch his favourite show. You two were obsessed and never missed out on watching the weekly episodes together. It had become you and Wonwooâs thing, and even though he wanted Haein to join in on the fun, he found himself more entertained by your theories than by talking on the phone with his girlfriend.Â
It dawned on him that he wished that Haein acted a little more like you. And it made him feel guilty. He knew he shouldâve loved Haein no matter her interests, but he wanted someone who could understand his nerdy side. And that was only something that you were able to do.Â
âHonestly, Iâm really tired, Iâm gonna go to bed now okay?â Haeinâs voice brought Wonwoo out of his thoughts.Â
âOh okay. Night.â He said before ending the call so quickly that Haeinâs âI love youâ was cut off mid-sentence.Â
Haein probably had thought he had forgotten, but Wonwoo just didnât want to say those words if he didnât mean it. He had grown annoyed, and a little bored of practically talking to a wall all night. Â
Comparable to the light switching off in his bedroom, he decided to do the same thing with Haein. He pushed his guilt aside and decided it was probably best to leave Haein and Changwon in the past. The memories of his last week of summer with her would become something he would look back on in the future and smile. But he didnât want to pretend any longer, it wouldâve just hurt her more if he stayed, he couldnât help that he fell out of love with her. The least he could do was not lead her on.Â
Wonwooâs relationship with Haein was merely a catalyst and a peek into what the rest of his relationships were going to look like in adulthood. He was never able to comprehend why he couldnât keep feelings for anyone after the six-month mark, and it almost frustrated him. Something was missing in every single relationship he had been in, and he wasnât sure what that was. But he was determined to find an answer.Â
three, present time.
The answer was you. But of course, Wonwoo didnât know that.Â
âAre you gonna keep checking your phone every five minutes or are you gonna do your homework?â Mingyu lectures him.Â
The two were studying in the library before their stats midterm, but Wonwooâs mind couldnât help but wonder. He hasnât been acting like himself since the night of Seokminâs party.Â
âOh, right.â Wonwoo clears his throat, putting his phone face down on the table.Â
Wonwoo drags his palms against his face, trying to not let sleep overtake him. It is not his fault that every time he tries to close his eyes, your face comes into his mind. The memory of you smiling with Seokmin made his insides twist. He hasnât seen you smile that hard in a while, and he almost misses how your eyes crinkle whenever you do so. You were practically haunting him and he had no idea how to make it stop.Â
âNot to be rude, but youâve been looking like shit lately. Whatâs wrong?â Mingyu questions him with furrowed eyebrows.Â
Wonwoo rolls his eyes at his friend, he didnât have to be insulted to know how crappy he looked, but Mingyu seemed to only be telling the truth. Wonwoo did look and feel like shit. With the amount of near run-ins heâs had with you and Seokmin on campus, heâs begun to sense that itâs some sort of karma. Whatever that karma may be for, he fully believes that itâs completely unwarranted.Â
Forcing a hand through his dark locks, Wonwoo contemplates whether or not he should just go up to you in person and demand answers. Itâs uncommon for the two of you to fight, or ignore each other for that matter. But he canât help but presume that if he were to confront you about your silence, there would be no rightful explanation. Or at least not the explanation that he wants from you.Â
Every time he even fathoms the thought of barging into your apartment and asking what the hell is wrong, thereâs a lingering nervousness that he wishes would dissipate, leading him to lay awake with his thoughts for hours on end.Â
âThanks for that, asshole, I just havenât been getting much sleep,â Wonwoo huffs.Â
âOkay, obviously. You practically look like a zombie with the way youâve been moping around. What has been keeping you up?â Mingyu presses.Â
Itâs not every day that Wonwoo indulges in his problems with Mingyu, thatâs what you were for. However, he canât talk about his problems about you, to you, so heâll have to settle for the next best thing. Â
âY/N has been ignoring me since the night we all hung out at Seokminâs,â Wonwoo confesses, and it feels nice.Â
For the past two weeks, heâs been keeping his frustrations to himself, and now that he can freely speak about it lifts the weight off his chest.Â
Mingyu snorts, obviously finding his friendâs situation humorous. Wonwoo sneers at Mingyuâs reaction, clearly not finding anything about you ignoring him funny.Â
âServes you right, youâre a dick to her, man.â Mingyu shrugs without any remorse to spare.Â
âWhat?â Wonwoo sputters, since when was he a dick to you? His best friend?Â
âHow blind are you? You have glasses and everything but you canât see how mean you are to her sometimes? Really?â Mingyu almost sounds offended on your behalf as he stares at Wonwoo with an incredulous expression.Â
âI am not a dick to her. She would definitely tell me if Iâve ever said something to hurt her feelings,â Wonwoo defends himself.Â
Attempting to rack his brain of all your moments together, he canât seem to pick out a memory where he has been especially rude to you. Of course, you two teased each other from time to time, but he wasnât a complete asshole. He knew when to not take a joke too far or purposely try to upset you.Â
âYouâre a dumbass.â Mingyu lets out a frustrated sigh which only aggravates Wonwoo even more.Â
âCould you stop with the insults for one second and just tell me whatâs going on?âÂ
Shutting his laptop, Mingyuâs posture becomes serious, a deviation from his usual carefree and smiley self. He cares about you just as much as the next person, so if he had to reality-check his friend, then so be it.Â
âShe cares about you a lot. And you treat her like shit. Itâs not about what youâve said to her, itâs your actions. Ever since we were in high school all youâve done is use her to solve your problems. I canât even blame her for wanting to cut you off. I donât know what happened at Seokminâs place for her to realize that, but you donât deserve her,â Mingyu confesses.Â
Soaking up each word that left Mingyuâs mouth, Wonwoo sat in a pool of perplexity. There are so many questions flying through his mind, yet he canât seem to utter a single word. Is that really how everyone perceives his friendship with you?Â
Wonwoo is going to throw up. There's a tightness in his chest and a burning sensation behind his eyes. He wants nothing more than to hear all of this coming from you, not Mingyu. The frustration of wanting to talk to you about this is taking a toll on him, he doesnât want to believe that Mingyu is telling the truth.Â
Itâs not fair. Itâs not fair that Mingyu gets to know these things about you while Wonwoo is just left in the dark. Did he make you feel like you couldnât tell him anything?Â
Ever since Wonwoo met you, it was evident that he can be quite merciless when it comes to his relationships, but thatâs romantic, not platonic. Wonwoo was convinced that he treated you equally because thatâs how it's supposed to be.Â
Hearing Mingyu talk about his friendship with you in that way caused Wonwooâs whole world to crash down. And the only thing he can do in moments like these is seek out your comfort, except he canât anymore. Not only has he been a terrible friend without realizing it, but heâs pushed you so far to the brink that youâd rather ignore him than attempt to hash out whatâs been troubling you.
âI-I didnât know that's how you guys saw our friendship,â Wonwoo falters, clearly taken aback, and still attempting to fully comprehend whatâs been said to him.Â
âItâs not that we see your friendship with her that way, it is that way. If I was her, I wouldâve cut you off a long time ago.âÂ
âWell, thanks, Gyu. I feel like this couldâve been said before she started ignoring me,â Wonwoo huffs, trying to come up with the words to explain his side.
âIt was kinda obvious, man,â Mingyu shrugs.Â
âWas it, though? If I had known, I wouldâve at least tried to be better,â Wonwoo attests, tired of feeling like the bad guy.Â
âHow about you just talk to her about it instead of sulking,â Mingyu suggests.Â
Desperation hijacked his rational thinking, making Mingyuâs advice sound plausible. Talking to you seemed out of the equation since you started ignoring him; he feared you wouldnât even answer if he tried to call or show up at your door. But he canât go on like this, especially now that he knows there is more to your friendship than he had initially thought.Â
four.Â
For the first time in Wonwooâs life, heâs unsure about what decision to make. Although he wants nothing more than to knock on your door, his feet stop him from even entering your building. So instead of mucking up the courage to talk to you face to face, he waits inside his car. Without a solid plan, he continues to sit there, biding his time.Â
Never has he acted so pathetic in his life, not even for the sake of his relationships. He knows that nothing will come from sitting there, just watching, but before he can even comprehend what he is doing and where he is going, he is already across the street from your place.Â
Gripping on the leather of his steering wheel, he just couldnât help himself. He canât help but watch your silhouette from your window. The curtains are drawn, but there are glimpses of you walking around. Heâs such a fucking loser. What type of person has Wonwoo become that he resorts to stalking you from the front of your building?Â
After all that Mingyu has enlightened him on, Wonwooâs attitude has become less angry and more apologetic. There was a line he pondered crossing, and it practically mocked him. Stepping over that line would mean getting answers from you, demanding to be brought into the light that you had snuffed out from under him. But his uncertainty of the outcome outweighed his decision to do so.
That same apologetic attitude died a fiery death after watching Seokmin leave your apartment. There you were in all your glory, the tiny sleep set clinging onto your body as the wind forced its way into the door of your building. Then there was Seokmin, grinning like a fucking idiot as he waved goodbye.Â
âShit!â Wonwoo grunts as he ducks down, not wanting to blow his cover. His car was visible from where the two of you stood, hoping that you werenât able to recognize it in the dead of night. Â
Boring holes into the back of Seokminâs head, Wonwoo's guilt diminished, floating away with the cold night breeze. You were fine, and he shouldâve known that the root of all his problems started with the name Lee Seokmin.Â
The shape of your figure had faded into the confines of your building. Yet Wonwoo can still make out your body through the glass window of your door. He canât help but gawk at your skimpy attire, your ass practically on display for the whole world to see. The deathly twist in his gut intensifies the more he ponders on what may have happened during Seokminâs visit. Wonwoo desperately wants to stop thinking about the possibilities, especially because your lack of clothing only fueled that inferno inside his mind.Â
Heâs never been more annoyed at Seokmin in his entire life, not until today.Â
Wonwoo allowed himself to ignore the signs, but only for a moment. But this, this he canât ignore. Not after what he witnessed. He allowed himself to stay ignorant when it came to your silence because he had been so naive to think that it was your decision. Now that he knows Seokmin had somehow weaselled his way closer to you, Wonwoo had to make sure this plan of his didnât go on any longer.Â
âŚ
There is a heat inside Wonwoo that, for some reason, he cannot extinguish. The curve and outlines of your body burn in the back of his retinas. No matter how many times heâs tried to put himself to sleep, the image of you is clear as day in his mind. Sparks crawl their way up his spine, and he desperately wishes that it would just go away.Â
Thereâs a point where Wonwoo gave up on trying to sleep altogether. Thoughts of you, your body, and the oh-so-painful reminder that youâre still ignoring him. How can he sleep with everything going on? What made things worse, was the fact that the one person he wanted to call most likely wouldnât pick up.
Wonwoo wasnât the type of person to let his emotions get the better of him, but this abrupt rift that has been torn between you two has him acting out in ways heâs never acted before.Â
The urge to grab his phone, to text you, to give it one more try, grows perpetually every second he lies awake.Â
One more time. One more attempt. What does he have to lose?Â
Wonwoo stands up, pacing around nonsensically, trying to think of what to say. For all he knows, you may not even answer, but there is the urge to hear your voice one more time and see your name pop up on his screen. Wonwoo yearns for you so much so that it supersedes any part of common sense he has left in him.Â
[12:52 a.m.]Â [wons <3: darling. can we talk? please?]Â [not delivered]Â
The silence within the four walls of Wonwooâs bedroom is harrowing. Out of all the outcomes he had considered before he texted you, the outcome of you blocking him was not even on the list.Â
Before jumping to some sort of conclusion, Wonwooâs finger hovers over the call button with skepticism. If you donât pick up, then thatâs it. That would be the definitive answer to all his qualms.Â
âThe number you have called is not available, please leave a message at the tone,â an automated voice affirmed his suspicions.Â
The notification is gut-wrenching, but he canât just sit here and pretend like itâs okay for you to do this. To decide without any of his input. What kind of friend were you to just drop him like he was nothing but an old toy? How unfair did you have to be to not even try to talk it out before you completely cut him off?Â
five.Â
Pacing outside the door of your apartment, Wonwoo hasnât been this nervous in years. He has always been so sure of himself, but itâs almost two in the morning and heâs still continuing to weigh his options.Â
Itâs either youâll let him in, and talk for the first time in almost two weeks, or youâll kick him out before he can step a foot past the door. Desperately, he desires that it be the first option. Losing you over this would break him, and not in the way you would expect.Â
Heâs already lost his mind. This shouldnât be the way you two break it off. It wonât be the way you two break it off. Not if Wonwoo has a say in the situation.Â
Sweaty palms and white knuckles rasp against the dark oak that barricades himself from you. Thereâs nothing that Wonwoo wants more than to see your face glowing in front of him. And before he can even get a word out to you, the door whips open. The person on the other side is someone Wonwoo is starting to get really sick of seeing.Â
âWhat the hell are you doing here?â Both Wonwoo and Seokmin speak in unison.Â
Scoffing, Wonwoo rolls his eyes at his so-called friend, âI think I should be asking you that. You clearly donât live here.âÂ
âMinnie? Is someone at the door?â your voice is as sweet as a glass of lemonade on a hot summerâs day.Â
Minnie. Wonwoo almost threw up in his mouth.Â
Minnie. The nickname is parallel to nails scraping against a chalkboard.Â
âYeah! Your neighbour just needed to borrow something,â Seokmin goads through a sickly sweet smile, eyes never leaving Wonwooâs. Without as much as a word of mockery, Seokminâs expression had said more than his words ever could have.Â
Despite his soft demeanour, Wonwoo knew there was something vile hiding under Seokminâs thick skin.Â
A rebuttal to his deception is on the tip of Wonwooâs tongue, but your melodic voice echoes throughout your home once more. The refute dies within his throat, and he hopes you will come out and see what your âneighbourâ is looking for.Â
âOkay!â is the only response you give out. The reverberation of the water hitting the shower tiles causes Wonwooâs stomach to practically lurch out his abdomen.Â
âWhatever youâre doing, sheâs not gonna fall for it,â Wonwoo jeered, staring at Seokmin with looks that should kill, if he could.Â
Seokmin chuckles bitterly, âShe already has.âÂ
There was no need for Wonwoo to put two and two together; he already knew what Seokmin was alluding to. It left a dreadful taste in his mouth.Â
Puffing out his chest, Wonwoo takes a step closer towards the man he once considered a close friend. Sizing him up, he knew that Seokmin was the reason for the wedge in your friendship. And Wonwoo had no problem treating him as such.Â
âYouâre fucking sick, you know that?â Wonwoo practically spits in his face.Â
âI could say the same thing for you,â Seokmin mutters, unperturbed, âI didnât have to do anything you know? Just a little push and she fell into my lap, voluntarily.âÂ
âIâm not just going to let you get away with something like this. Sheâs my best friend.âÂ
âI think the correct tense is was. She was your best friend,â Seokmin taunted.Â
He was wrong about Seokmin. Even though he had known about his friend's crush on you for years, Wonwoo didnât expect the lengths Seokmin would go to in order to cut him out of the picture.Â
Before a breath could even escape his lips, Seokmin cuts him off, âI think itâs time for you to leave. She doesnât want to see you.â
The last few words that he heard come out of Seokminâs mouth nearly fell on deaf ears. It was practically a whisper, laced with enough malice to almost kill the fighting spirit inside him. Almost.Â
âBy the way, donât text her anymore. Iâve made sure she wonât get any more notifications from you.âÂ
The realization had struck Wonwoo hard. He knew you well enough that you wouldnât just block him so carelessly, without a word no less. Yet he was no match for Seokmin, not after the fact that you allowed him into your home, your heart, so willingly.Â
âŚ
Lying in wait, Wonwoo observes the door of your building once more. The distinct difference this time was that Wonwoo had no guilt left in him to care. Whether you see him or his car across the street didnât matter to him anymore. The only thing Wonwoo wanted to make sure of was whether or not Seokmin would be leaving your place.Â
After what had felt like hours, he watched the same scene from last night unfold in front of him once more. The abhorrent hug goodbye that is exchanged between you and Seokmin is nothing but a cue for Wonwoo to make his move.
With as much grace as a bull in a china shop, he slams the car door shut, not even bothering to lock it before he stalks his way to your apartment. The anticipation caused the hairs on his neck to stand straight up. As he presses the button to your floor, he can only deliberate whether any of Seokminâs words hold any truth behind them.
Certainly not, right? Not after all the years you spent together. His friendship with you couldnât end on this vague note. You were always the sentimental type, holding onto trinkets, memories, and even people for far too long. It should be the same with Wonwoo; he believed it would be the same.Â
If there is a chance, you should allow him to talk and voice his opinion. No, Wonwoo will voice his opinion; there has never been a time when you havenât let him speak.Â
As the elevator ascends to your floor, anxiety begins to weigh down his shoulders. The feeling is atypical and Wonwoo hates how his throat constricts. He hates how his clothes feel too tight and stuffy despite his casual attire. Is this how it feels? To actually care about someone and whether their decisions might affect him later on?Â
Footsteps echo within the hallway, and with each step he takes, the illusion steadily becomes more vivid. Your front door almost looks like itâll take a mile before Wonwoo can reach it, rather than a few feet away.Â
After what felt like years, Wonwoo stands before the entrance of your home once more. The foreboding tension wonât vanish and itâs starting to make him itch. Without another thought, Wonwoo forces himself to knock on the door knowing itâll be you who answers this time, not Seokmin.Â
âMinnie? Did you leave something agaiâ,â Abrupt silence engulfs your words, leaving nothing but an echo to resonate within the expanse of your long hallway.
âWonwooâŚâ your voice falters, like you genuinely didnât expect to see him, let alone have him standing outside your door.Â
âDid you fuck him?â Wonwoo cuts to the chase, not leaving any room for you to ask questions.Â
His blunt words caused a frown to grace your soft pink lips, and Wonwoo almost felt bad for being so frank. But he doesnât have time to beg for your forgiveness, the anger surmounting to nothing but harsh words and a push past you and into your home.Â
âDid you fuck him? Yes or no?â Wonwoo continues to press you for answers, agitated that you have the audacity to stand there dumbfounded. As if you donât know who he's talking about. âCâmon, you know who Iâm talking about,â he can almost laugh at the situation in front of him.Â
How is it that all the rage he built up for Seokmin is being taken out on you? Wonwoo had no clue, but the thought of his friend-now-enemy defiling you, tasting you, while Wonwoo desperately waited for your call caused him to direct all his anger to you. Perhaps itâs undeserving to do so, but Wonwooâs frustration spoke for him before his brain could even register what he was saying.Â
âThe past two weeks youâve been ignoring me, spending your time with him, do you know where his true intentions lie?â Wonwoo continues to rant with unpreparedness.Â
He didnât plan what he was going to say because there was a moment of doubt, he had expected you to open the door just to slam it right back in his face. The look you gave him almost brought him to his knees. Your doe-eyed expression couldâve broken down every wall heâs built if only he hadnât let his anger proceed him.Â
Wonwoo shouldâve cried, to plead for you to take him back. To go back to the way things were. He knew he fucked up the moment he uttered a single word. The hurt flashed across your face as though Wonwoo turned your world upside down.Â
âSeokmin doesnât care about you, and Iâll tell you that now because you need to hear it. He just wants to fuck you! And you just gave that to him?â He canât stop talking.Â
âStop. Just stop fucking talking Wonwoo. Do you hear yourself right now?â You cut off his rant. âOut of all people, who gave you the right to tell me who I can and cannot fuck? Especially knowing the type of person that you are. It doesnât matter if Seokmin and I had sex. What matters is the fact that you think you can barge in here at two-thirty in the morning interrogating me over a situation that doesnât involve you.âÂ
âNo. Iâm just trying to help you. Seokmin isnât the person that you think he is,â Wonwoo seethes, annoyed at how youâre twisting his words.Â
The bile in his throat rose further, as you stood before him like he had just kicked your dog. Wonwooâs extremely aware of the hole he had dug for himself, but he couldnât stop. His urge to self-sabotage overrides his common sense.Â
âThat is exactly what weâre not going to do right now. Seokmin has been a better friend to me than you have been in all the years weâve known each other. I have been by your side for years, bending over backwards. I was at your beck and call and Iâm tired. Sometimes I wish I could go back in time and warn myself about you. I fell in love with my best friend, and the worst part was that you didnât care enough to notice.Â
âI gave up so much for you, Wonwoo. I lost myself trying to please you. But I give up. I was drowning in my love for you. It consumed every part of me to the point I couldnât even come up for air. And Iâm just sick of it. I know thereâs a part of you that cares about me too, but itâll never be equal. Iâll always love you more than you love me, and I donât want to feel this way anymore.âÂ
âWhat hurts me the most, is that you thought it would be okay to accuse me of things I didnât even do. I did not sleep with Seokmin, but why is that what you care about? He respects me and just wants to be there for me. And thatâs a lot more than I could ever say about you.âÂ
Your voice was terrifyingly calm, with neither a lilt nor a hiccup during your speech. The heft of your declaration crashed back down onto Wonwoo, leaving him at a loss for words.Â
âIâm sorry,â is the first thing to come out of his mouth after a long pause.Â
âPlease. Itâs late, you should go home,â you sigh, but Wonwoo couldnât move an inch. He refused.Â
âIâm sorry,â he repeats himself, looking into your eyes, searching for the look of endearment you had always given him.Â
âWonwooâŚâ there it is. Your voice had broken for the first time since Wonwoo stepped foot in the place.Â
âPlease. Iâm so fucking sorry. For getting angry, for doubting you, for not realizing how badly you were hurting,â Wonwoo resorted to pleading.Â
A look of desperation mixed with agony was the only thing you could exchange for his apologies.
The stare of grief you had given him caused a shooting pain to swell throughout his limbs. The one that begins at his fingertips, creeping up to tug at the strings that held his heart together. He wanted this nightmare to end, and he was sure you did too.Â
âItâs time for you to go. Iâm tired, Wonwoo.â A single tear slips and trickles down your cheek.Â
He regrets not wiping it away for you at that moment. It was the first time he had been so unsure of his actions. So, instead, he walked out of your apartment, leaving nothing but the lingering scent of his cologne and a piece of his heart.Â
Wonwoo's world was crumbling underneath him, and there was only one person he refused to let go of. He shouldâve known.
He shouldâve known that you were in front of him this whole damn time.
end of act one.

Arcane Season 2 - How Bad Pacing Can Ruin Everything
So, Arcane season 2 ended. And I am sorry, I need to vent.
I am honestly not sure whether the rumors are true and this were originally meant to be more seasons. The Riot CEO apparently denies it, but then again, I have seen CEOs confidently go out on stages to talk about a project which they knew was cancelled at that point in time. So, sorry, but I will never ever trust a CEO. Lying is like 50% of their jobs. Being greedy is the other half. Sorry, not sorry.
I am gonna write something about disability in Arcane (overall) during the next few days, but let me just talk a bit about the pacing issues of season 2.
Spoilers for season 2 - all of it - obviously.
Believe me or not, but I know the exact issue of Arcane season 2. It is called: Too many characters. Too many plotlines. It is something that easily happens when writing an ensemble story (no matter what the format is you publish the story in - it happens in books, movies, shows, games). At times it works fine if you manage to weave the entire ensemble into the same main plot. But as soon as you wanna give everyone their own little storyarc with a bit of their own themes, it often goes haywire. Either you will end up dropping some characters to the side and not properly finish up their story, or you will end up rushing everything. Neither is gonna be good.
Here I am mainly thinking... Was the entire Black Rose/LaBlanc stuff planned to be there from the beginning? Was it put in later? I mean, given that the entire story felt like it might set up Mel as a Champion for LoL... How do I put it? Mel was too overdesigned in the show, to not be a future Champion. That was my feeling from the beginning. I don't know if they gonna make her a Champion, but man, it feels like it.
But no, the main issue really is the pacing. There is just too much stuff happening.
I will remain, that the thing that shows this better than anything was the second "arc" of season 2. Episode 4-6. And the general way the entire Caitlyn, Vi, Jinx thing plays out. We have the following things happen in the first six episodes of season 2:
Cait's mother dies
Cait swears revenge and asks Vi to assist her as an enforcer
Vi does not want to. Ends up getting drunk.
Vi decides to do it anyway.
They do a bit of chemical warfare for good measures.
They go down there. Fight Jinx. Vi cannot do it - partly because Isha.
Cait breaks up with Vi and becomes the evil fascist dictator
Vi becomes an alcohol addict.
Except, never mind, Caitlin is already feeling shitty about it next episode.
Jinx gets Vi and Magic Pixie Dreamgirls her out of her new-found addiction.
Jinx and Vi are good again. They go help Vander.
Cait meets Vi for the first time since the break up. They instantly are back on the same page.
Like, there is so many plothooks in this storyline alone that do go completely unexplored.
There are two characters here, that do play a role in the last three episodes too and that felt like they were some proper characters at some point. Those two are Maddie - the Scottish-dialect enforcer girl - and... Frankly, I do not feel like looking up the name. The big burly one, who after the break-up takes care of Vi.
Those two feel like they were at some point meant to be more real characters. But because of the pacing, they are barely ideas. Maddie starts making out with Caitlyn because...? I don't know. Because I literally do not know anything about this character but "she is an enforcer", "she is queer", "she is attracted to power(?)", and thats it.
And the other guy goes with Vi because... Uhm... I don't know. I know literally nothing about this chaaracter other than that he is big and an enforcer. *shrugs*
It most certainly feels like there was some planned version of this show, in which Cait and Vi both had a proper corruption arc. In which we really saw the two of them struggle. In which we actually saw Piltover and Zaun under the control of Commander Caitlyn and Noxus, and saw the horrible things they were doing and what it was doing with Caitlyn. In which we also saw Vi struggling with addiction and stuff.
But that was not the version we got in the end. Instead in this version... things go magically well.
Hooray?
Same with Jinx. Her mental health issues just magically get better when Isha is there, because that is what the story needs to happen now.
Here, too, it also feels like huge chunks of the story are missing. It feels like there was a story going more into the relationship of Sevika and Jinx for a bit. But if that story had been there once, it was most certainly no longer there. It was hinted at, yeah, but that's it.
And then there is the entire magic plot.
Look, I think among the fans of the LoL Lore I am not the first one to say: "Yeah, trying to marry the worldbuilding of Arcane to the established Runeterra worldbuilding does not work, because of the magic." Runeterra so far was always a fairly high magic world - at least that was implied by comics and short stories. Magic was a common thing in this world. Otherwise we could not have that many magic champions and a whole place whose entire thing it had been: "We are anti-magic Nazis building mage concentration camps!"
When Riot said, that Arcane was now the main canon, A LOT of fans of the lore were like: "You get that it is not gonna work." And yeah, Arcane Season 2 clearly shows how it doesn't work.
Because the way they put in the entire "Mel is magic, also the Black Rose is a thing" stuff just... It did not fit in the entire plot around it. Because Arcane had been designed as a world where magic was very rare and strange. But now Mel had to be magic and somehow had to be connected to the Black Rose.
Also... What the fuck even happened there in the end? Why put that in? Why make Mel go against LaBlanc? I am sorry, but that was simply too much for this plot. The entire Black Rose stuff stuck out of this plot like - pardon the pun - a thorn.
Generally there are several relationships that feel, like they had at one point been a whole more explored, but then got dropped to the wayside.
As I said, Sevika and Jinx are definitely an example. Ekko and Heimerdinger as well. I also feel like what was episode 7 of the show was probably originally more than one episodes and slower paced - though it still to me was the one episode in this, that kinda worked in of itself. And that the Ekko and Jinx relationship was better established.
I also feel that Viktor and that echo of Skye was probably at some point supposed to actually have talks. Like: "I will miss talking to you." - "No, you won't." Okay? THEN SHOW ME THEM TALKING PLEASE?!
Which kinda brings me down to the main thing that happened because of the pacing issue. Season 2 of Arcane knew only two extremes in terms of "Show, don't tell". Either it goes full "music video" in whcih indeed it just shows us shit without context or dialogue - or we get the information just via dialogue, in a complete tell.
This also shows in the last episode, with the entire thing of Piltover asking the Zaunites for help, after brutally surpressing them forever. Yeah, I see where they were going with this. About being the bigger people and planting seeds and what not. But frankly, there might have been a time and space for a story like that, if properly told (you know, with giving more of the Zaunites a voice in this story, showing more of the conflict and spacing this plot out over several episodes). But a) it was not properly told, and b) a world in which several genocides happen while Trump somehow won a second term is not that world. Yes, b) is not the fault of anyone working on Arcane. That was simply bad luck on their part. But a) is very much their fault - and even if we did not have a Palestinian Genocide and no second Trump term: Without a) being done properly, it would not have worked. It would have just not felt quite as miserable.
You know, the most frustrating thing about this was, that... While I think that one way or another I would still have hated how the show handles the topic of disability (again, I will write about this during the next few days), I generally might have liked the same plot, if it had been given the needed space to breathe.
Like... Sure, I would have never really been on board with "fascist Caitlyn", or rather with "fascist Caitlyn, who gets then forgiven by everyone". But I could have somewhat swallowed it, if that forgiveness had to be earned. But because of the breakneck speed of this show, it never got earned. I am not even talking about redemption arcs here - those are always a headache - but specifically about the fact that Caitlyn gets instantly forgiven by everyone.
Also, lol. The entire thing with Ekko convincing Jinx to come along off-screen. That was unelegant.
Heck, it feels in the first four episodes, as if there was an arc being set up for Sevika in general. And it feels like that arc needed to happen, given that Sevika ends up on the COUNCIL OF PILTOVER in the epilogue. However, that Arc just does not happen. Then, like... why set it up?
That is general the issue. There is a lot of set-up and very, very little payoff to any of it.
And here is the thing. I have heard people argue about whether or not this was meant to have more seasons. But frankly: I do not think that the writers who wrote season 1 would have written this story this way had they known it would be two seasons.
Mind you, compared to some people I would not rate the writing in season 1 higher than maybe 6 or 7 of 10. It was solid, but not overwhelmingly great. But season 2 in comparison is a 2 of 10, maybe a 3 of 10, if I am being gracious.
And frankly, I do not think any writer, who is in any way worth their salt, would write a story where a main character goes evil, and then do exactly nothing with it. I mean, sorry, us writers, we are a dramatic bunch. And we will not resist the drama being served on a silver platter unless we are forced too. I cannot imagine a single writer, who will go with the end of episode 3 and then not write a bunch of angst with Caitlyn and Vi - unless they were forbidden.
And mind you, CaitVi is by far the ship I am least invested in. But it is simply such a glaring example of where the plot is rushed in a way that it hinders the character arcs.
Oh, and also... Lest. Lest in the first six episodes clearly felt like a character, who was going to play a role. Only to then disappear to not be seen again during the finale. What happened to Lest? Is she dead? Is she alive? I guess we'll never know.
*sighs* I am sorry. I really am. I am just... very disappointed. This has been a mess. And I think it would not have needed to be.
Like, the animation is still the most pretty thing ever made in the world. But man... The plot? The plot sucks balls. And not in the sexy way.

May 21st, 2024 - Indianapolis, IN
It was late afternoon in Indianapolis when Amelie finally had a free day. The past week had been an exhausting blur of rehearsals, fittings, and long hours on set, and she was feeling the weight of it all. The constant pressure of filming Stranger Thingsâthe long takes, the constant changes in her characterâs storylineâhad started to take a toll. But today, for once, there was a break in the chaos. Her schedule was clear, and she could finally breathe.
But even with the rare moment of peace, there was somethingâor rather, someoneâshe couldnât shake from her mind.
Lando.
He was back in Monaco, having just wrapped up a successful stint in Canada. He was home, and while she was glad he had a bit of time to relax, the distance between them had been harder to handle recently. It had been weeks since theyâd seen each other in person, and with her filming schedule and his race calendar, it didnât look like that would change anytime soon.
She sighed as she set her phone down on the coffee table, knowing exactly what she needed to make the day feel better. A few minutes later, she grabbed a blanket from her bed and tucked herself into the couch, fingers already flying across the screen.

Amesđ: Youâre not busy, are you?
Lanđ§Ą: Never too busy for you đ
Amesđ: How about a date night from afar? Iâm free for the evening, and I think I need something to distract me from how much I miss you.
Lanđ§Ą: A virtual date night? I like the sound of that. What do you have in mind?
Amesđ: Well, I was thinking of a movie. And by movie, I mean lots of popcorn, me in pajamas, and you pretending you donât want to be here with me.
Lanđ§Ą: You know Iâd rather be there with you, Ames. But okay, Iâm in. Letâs make this work.
Amelie smiled at his message, feeling a flutter in her chest. There was something about how sweet and sincere he could be, even through text. Theyâd been dating for several months now, but the intimacy of their connection hadnât worn off. They were still the same playful, sarcastic couple theyâd been when they were just friendsâand it made the distance hurt a little less.
She quickly changed into the softest hoodie she could find and settled in with a bowl of popcorn. The TV was set up, and now it was just waiting for him to be ready. It wasnât quite the same as cuddling up next to him on the couch, but it was the closest thing they had at the moment.
She was about to send him a message to check if he was all set when her phone lit up with his name. She answered quickly, smiling at the sight of his face.
âHey you,â she said, her voice soft with a mix of affection and longing.
Landoâs face appeared on the screen, looking as relaxed as ever, despite the fact that it was late evening in Monaco. He was lounging on a couch too, wearing a T-shirt and a messy grin that sent warmth flooding through her. His messy brown curls looked like they'd been tousled from a few hours of loungingânothing new. The soft light behind him made his green eyes even brighter, and Amelie had to resist the urge to lean into the phone, like maybe she could close the distance if she tried hard enough.
âHey, beautiful,â Lando greeted, his voice low and inviting, that playful glint in his eyes making her heart race. âSo... whatâs the movie tonight?â
âWell,â she said, glancing around at the room, âI was thinking The Princess Bride. You know, the classic. Comfort movie.â
âClassic? Youâre telling me Iâm going to have to watch that?â He raised his eyebrows, teasing her. âIâve seen it a thousand times already.â
âI know, I know,â she laughed, âbut itâs perfect for a night like this. Plus, youâre watching it with me, so itâs different.â
âIâm just here for the popcorn and your company,â he said with a wink. âYou canât trick me with your cheesy movie choices, Ames.â
âYou love the cheesiness,â she shot back with a grin, eyes sparkling. âAnd youâre not allowed to complain until youâve watched at least half of it. Deal?â
âDeal,â Lando agreed, leaning back on the couch. âIâll just have to put up with the true love stuff...â
Amelie chuckled, settling in as she hit play. She had paused it earlier so they could start together. Lando did the same, and for a moment, they just looked at each other through the screen, both of them smiling at the sight of the other. It was strange, this whole virtual date thing, but there was something about their connection that made it work.
The movie started, and they both settled into their respective couches, popcorn in hand. Every so often, theyâd glance at the screen and then back at each other, sharing a look, or a smile, or a quiet laugh.
Landoâs voice cut through the soft background hum of the movie.
âWait, wait, wait. Is this the part where they start fighting off the rodents of unusual size?â He leaned forward, eyes glinting with mock seriousness. âThatâs my favorite part.â
Amelie laughed softly, her body curling into the blanket around her.
âYes! Youâre obsessed with those things.â
âTheyâre amazing. Seriously, rats that are bigger than me? Come on, thatâs wild.â He said it with a grin, clearly enjoying himself.
Amelie chuckled, setting the popcorn bowl down beside her on the couch. She could see him looking at her, and it made her stomach do a little flip.
âItâs all about the cheesiness. I swear, weâd be so good at running this whole movie if we were in the same room.â
âYeah?â Lando smirked. âYouâd be the one calling all the shots, though. I just sit here, look pretty, and nod along.â
Amelie raised an eyebrow, playfully eyeing him.
âLook pretty, huh? Youâd better be careful. Thatâs the second compliment youâve given me today.â
âOh, wait, I gave you a compliment?â Lando smirked, clearly amused by his own teasing. âGuess Iâm getting soft. This distance is killing me, Ames. I feel like Iâm losing my edge. I might even start being nice to people.â
She laughed, shaking her head as she snuggled deeper into the blanket.
âYou know, I might take advantage of this nice Lando. Youâve got a few soft spots in you.â She let the words hang in the air, teasing, but there was something more behind it.
Lando's expression softened, the playfulness in his eyes turning a little warmer. He leaned back into his couch, propping his phone up to get a better angle.
âYeah? Like what?â His voice had a certain vulnerability to it now, not the usual teasing edge.
She stared at him for a moment, her fingers lightly tracing the rim of the popcorn bowl.
âYouâre a lot more caring than you let on, Lando. Youâve always been there when I needed someone, even before we started this whole thing. I noticed it before, you know?â Her voice was soft, genuine, and it made Lando feel a little lighter, despite the miles between them.
He watched her for a moment, silent. Then a small smile tugged at his lips.
âI guess we both had our ways of pretending we were fine without each other.â He paused, his fingers brushing the hair out of his face, the quiet moments between them carrying weight. âBut I hate how far apart we are right now. You donât know how much I wish I could just be there with you, Ames. Youâre all I think about sometimes. Like... I canât not think about you. Even when Iâm racing or in the middle of stuff. And itâs crazy, right? Because itâs only been two weeks, but damn... this distance sucks. So, donât go telling anyone I said that, yeah?â
Amelieâs heart skipped a beat at his honesty. She hadnât realized how much heâd been struggling with the separation, how much it had been weighing on him, too. She smiled gently, brushing her thumb across the screen where his face was.
âYou donât need to be worried about that, Norris. I get it, trust me. I miss you more than I let on, and Iâm not going to go around telling people how sappy youâre getting on me.â Her voice was teasing again, but the sentiment behind it was anything but playful. She meant it. She missed him so much, too.
Landoâs smirk returned, though it was softer this time, warmer.
âGood. Iâm still trying to keep up my reputation here, you know?â He glanced at the movie for a second, but his eyes quickly found their way back to hers. âBut seriously... when I finally see you again, youâre getting the longest hug of your life. Iâm not letting go. I think thatâs the only thing Iâve been thinking about lately. Just holding you.â
Amelie smiled, biting her lip to stop herself from getting too emotional. It had been a while since theyâd seen each other in person, and the thought of finally being in his arms again sent a wave of warmth through her.
âI think that sounds perfect, actually.â
They settled into the movie again, both of them lost in their own thoughts for a few moments. As the characters on-screen began their famous sword fight, Lando let out a loud laugh.
âIs this really the sword fight? These guys are terrible!â He laughed again, shaking his head. âHonestly, this movie is so ridiculous. But I guess thatâs why itâs so good.â
âItâs classic for a reason, Norris,â Amelie shot back, her grin returning. âAnd youâre going to sit there and appreciate it. You might not admit it now, but by the end, youâll be quoting it with me.â
âChallenge accepted,â he replied with a wink. âBut I swear, Ames, if I end up liking this more than I should, Iâm blaming you for the whole thing. Youâre the one who got me on this cheesy movie kick in the first place.â
She laughed, the sound light and airy, her eyes crinkling at the corners.
âOh, Iâm not the only one, trust me. Youâre the one who said youâd suffer through it with me.â
âRight...â Lando smirked, then paused, his tone turning serious again. âIâm glad weâre doing this. Even from far away, itâs nice to have these moments with you. Just... donât think I wonât make you watch the Fast and the Furious next time.â
Amelie raised her eyebrow in mock horror.
âYouâre evil, you know that?â
He only laughed, but there was an underlying truth in the way his voice softened when he spoke next.
âYeah. But only for you.â

Okay here goes
First, the spoiler free stuff:
Ridley Scott knows how to make a fucking film.
If I donât see fics of Acacius x reader x Lucilla I will begin biting
If you are going in it for Pedro, I will warn you his character is very important but kind of⌠idk, shallow is too strong of a word, but not very fleshed out. I donât think thatâs an issue in the greater scheme of the movie though, it makes sense in the plot and doesnât feel out of place or bad in the universe.
If you are going in it for Paul Mescal, you will not be disappointed.
Please watch the first movie first. The story will not make any fucking sense if you donât.
Just the right amount of flashbacks and footage from the first movie . Chefs kiss
Ridley Scott really said âall emperors and tyrants are nasty little freaks with terrible vibesâ
Oh also if youâre squeamish about gore and stuff like. Itâs a movie about gladiators so set your expectations accordingly. There is an instance of a disembodied head used as a prop. So yâknow
Okay, spoilery stuff below the cut
Arishat was hot :( rip
Monkeys at the beginning? Terrible. 0/10 did not enjoy that. Also did not enjoy seeing and hearing Mr. Mescal BITING ONE
I love Ravi I would watch a whole movie just about him tending to gladiatorsâ wounds quite frankly. Give me that story
We love to see bisexuality on screen (even though that wasnât a social identity at the time but weâre not here to talk about that) what with the concubines and drunk as fuck Macrinus
Speaking of drunk as fuck Macrinus: that whole scene was so fucking funny. Theyâre like that meme about people getting high. You know the one
Speaking of MacrinusâDenzel Washington stole the show. When TIME magazine pushed a story to me today headlined âGladiator II Belongs to Denzel Washington,â I was like, pshhhh, nah. But it really does. Itâs not about him? But itâs his fucking show.
The politics . THE POLITICS
It feels a little heavy handed right now but that wasnât probably how it was intended, given it was made before. Yâknow. The election. But the whole dream of Rome being a place where everyone is equal and cared for but you can only whisper it or itâll shatter? Yeah.
Oh, right, Acacius: that dude is so tired he does NOT want to be there. Let him go home to his hot wife. Alas, his hot wife is the way she is and like⌠no good deed goes unpunished.
And I fucking called it with my text post a few months ago. Two (2) movies now where Denzel Washington (either directly or indirectly) kills Pedro Pascal. Brilliant
Admittedly selfishly I wouldâve liked to see more of him. But it felt like the correct thing in the context of the story. If he didnât die then, if he wasnât the inciting event for the uprising of the people of Rome, it wouldnât have made sense and it wouldâve just been fan service and âlook, we got Pedro Pascal!â at that point.
I wouldâve liked to see a more in-depth exploration of the change in relationship between Lucius and Lucillaâit seems like they went from Lucius screaming at her to get out to them hugging it out without any real development between the two of them specifically. Obviously a lot had happened in the world of the movie at that point but nonetheless
Macrinus shooting Lucilla was his Icarus moment. There was no coming back from that. âBut what about Getaâ âbut what about Caracallaâ no. It was Lucilla. If sheâd gotten got by the praetorian guards or something else, it wouldâve been fine. But because it was Macrinus there was nowhere he could go from there other than [checks notes] getting his hand chopped off and then gutted in a dirty irrigation ditch.
Remember kids, the people in power who are causing all of the things going wrong in the world have names and addresses and are mortal <3
Also another takeaway from the movie: imperialism, religious extremism, ableism, and authoritarianism will be the end of us all <3
Anyway. Good movie. Canât wait to watch it again in my own home with subtitles so I can actually like⌠process everything everyone was saying LMAO and take better reaction notes.
Iâm still sitting in the theater parking lot itâs been like 30 minutes LMAO okay thanks for coming to my tedtalk or whatever

ARCANE SESON 2 ACT 3 SPOILERS!!!!
SPOILERS!!! LAST WARNING!!!
Seven things I can't stop thinking about after seson 2
Most of them are about Viktor because he is my favorite character, and I relate to him so bad ...
1. The parallel between Jinx and Viktor...
Inventors with potential
Both wanted good but end up making fucking disaster
Both turned against their loved ones
Both sacrifice at the end ( we don't know if they are dead, but...)
2. No one in their world would be ever know about this
3. Fucking jayvik butterfly
4. The another will in Jace, what Viktor was talking about in act two, was his own... it was Viktor's will....
5. Viktor wearing Jayce blanket... The blanket he gave him in Act 1, he made from it outfit in Act 2 because it's all that left him after Jayce... and he wore it in his final form after Jayce literally killed him... he is so not over him...
6 Viktor giving up, losing everything
They broke him completely that he lost himself, he didn't really work with ambessa he more use them to get what he wanted becouse then he takes control on her warriors too...all he wanted was better world for everyone, he just lose control on his dream, he was blinded... how the fuck he end up like this.... he was in shook when Jayce show him the true, he realized what he doing.. that it is far away from doing good.... he was so kind, good and ambitious men in the beginning... and he still was at the end, deep inside him, and Jayce found it....
7. " But you were never broken, Viktor.... There is beauty in imperfections, they made you who you are "
That line, just burned out into my heart...
I feel like failure whole my life... like I don't deserve love or anything... I feel like... I just so needed to hear that...
I am actually NOT OKAY....
But...
You know, the show is good if it changes your perspective of the world. Viktor and Jayce just improved my perception of word love. No kiss was needed, no s*x scenes and stuff, without it, I can feel their love...
I loved Viktor's character from the very beginning till the very end.. is he perfect ? No. Do I support all his actions ? No. But I can feel that men, I can understand him, and I feel like he would understand me
The only character I relate to more now is Hiccup...( but I relete to him since I was 15 years old so.. ) but Viktor done impossible he gets close to him.. to me....
The show was fucking amazing and I don't know if I finished it or it finished me ...
Music was a masterpiece. the show isn't perfect, but it's really, really good, in my opinion.
This and HTTYD gonna be my favorite movies/series till the day I die...
If arcane or httyd have 0 fans, i am dead ...
What a show....
Who will pay for my therapy....
