So, the Silesian word for "queer" is - as decided by the community in the recent years - "przegięty", which is an adjective that means "bent out". As in, when you bend something like a pipe out of shape. Make it a new shape instead. Make it fit, like we do with our bodies and our presentation.
But also, "przeginać", the verb from this word, means to go too far. To do too much, to the point of annoyance or even danger, something that you would tell a child when they're misbehaving and you warn them your patience is running thin. And we do that - we bend the norms, further than people would like us to.
And I think that's neat.

I guess there are people who like to portray a wholesome dadbastian where he’s a good parent but as for me, I view him as a mentally deranged and irresponsible guardian who should not have charge over a child. He didn’t become a dad by choice, it just kind of happened to him as an unexpected consequence of his contract? And he’s emotionally conflicted and doesn’t really realize he’s turning soft or doesn’t want to admit it. Giving him a kid to raise is a bad idea, I mean look at poor ociel I don’t think sebastards rly doing him any favors. My hope, my delusional fantasy is that we get a culmination of the positive and protective behaviors he displays and a change of heart but
probably won’t happen 💔đŸ„ČI mean Yana could very well have shown what I interpret as the softer side of Sebastian as a way to convey “he always does the logical thing to protect his meal and maintain his image, it’s only out of pride and self-aggrandizing”

It's so funny to me that J. Balvin was one of the stops for Ateez at Coachella because they ONLY thing I know about that man is that whenever he had a show at the arena ALL of my Dominican and Puerto Rican coworkers would walk around for the week leading up to the show mocking him. So, to me, it's the equivalent of the cool freshman chilling with, like, the designated annoying kid from the senior class.

I'm knitting in the corner at a party
and guys my age stop by to tell me I remind them of their aunt, of their grandmother. This is a compliment and I take it as such. They confess to having tried crochet once, and I smile. They get back in line for the bathroom.
I'm knitting in the corner at a party and a queer woman sits on the floor next to me, arranges her skirt, and smiles up at me. (I try not to blush.) She asks me all the questions on her mind about my craft and I answer them, hands still moving. We swap yarn sources. She doesn't stay, but she knows where to find me.
I'm knitting in the corner at a party and everyone knows where to find me when they need a minute, when socializing is too much and the music is too loud and they need to catch their breath. They pretend to be checking in on me, which is sweet, but I can see the relief in their eyes the moment they stop performing for a house full of people. They sit down and tell me things and all the while they never take their eyes off my hands.
The party has wound down and I'm still knitting and the hosts, two guys in their twenties, thank me for "helping to curate the vibe." I had no idea that's what I was doing. I leave the party having forgotten to drink anything and without that woman's number but with many rows added to my top-down raglan sweater. I call it a night, and a good one.

Cozy Fantasy and Why It Doesn't Work
I think I am among many who feel like they should love cozy fantasy and have found it an incredibly lacking genre.
This newly branded "cozy fantasy" genre that has taken readers by storm since 2020 and while it is new that books are now marketed as cozy, the genre itself isn't new. Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones is a great example of the genre before it was labeled and also how to make it work.
Cozy fantasy is defined by many as fantasy with low stakes. Fantasy aesthetic but less sword fights. On paper, it sounds great. But the execution has been less than stellar for readers like me. The lack of physical stakes has also impacted the emotional stakes of these books, creating forgettable characters with boring problems. As a romance reader, I find this frustrating. Romance is known for being a predictable and formulaic genre, the now defunct Romance Writers of America defined romances as needing happy endings, a term romances have continued to follow. Yet these romance texts manage to have low physical stakes (how to date your neighbor, how to confront your toxic friends, etc) while still maintaining high personal stakes that keep readers invested and begging for more. So I was initially confused why cozy fantasy authors struggle to write texts that connect to readers like me.
I think I have found the answer which is the genre is just here for vibes. It is all about aesthetic, not even worldbuilding that fantasy is known for as most cozy fantasy I read have so many problems as soon as you ask one question. It is hard to acknowledge that a genre that is pitched to work for readers like me doesn't work for many of us. Especially because occasionally there is one that works beautifully to my taste.
I often say my favorite cozy fantasies that are more contemporary are short and visual, which I plays into the idea of the genre being an aesthetic. The Bakery Dragon by Devin Elle Kurtz is a good example because it is a simple story that is given the perfect amount of pages and gorgeous visuals without dragging on when the message is very clear and easy to understand. Books like The Phoenix Keeper and Legends and Lattes have absolutely nothing for me, their very clear message hitting the reader over and over so the readers don't miss it and focusing on the aesthetic of worldbuilding rather than the reality of the fantastic elements within the world.
I guess my point is. . . I realize this genre isn't for me since I have realized it is more of an aesthetic than anything. .. .but I want it to be. Should I let it go and put my efforts elsewhere? Or should I keep exploring this new trend and find the hidden gems?
