And a friend gave me the Series 1 boxset which I devoured in a day because 9′s her favorite doctor. It was such fun to experience Who that way. Would do it again. I got them all at once.

What do we learn from this?  I’m a big fan of the stand alone episode.  I’ve seen a lot of complaints about 13′s first season not having archs.  But, I’ve been enjoying the hell out of it.  Not to say I haven’t enjoyed archs... I think I got way burnt out on them (and their lack of pay off) during Moffat’s reign. 

8. What is your favourite episode of 5?

The first one that always pops to mind is “Coda.” Not only is it shippy af, it deals with death and the afterlife in, I think, an interesting way.  Also, it rips my heart out every time.  I seem to like episodes that make me emotional. lol

11. How did you become interested in 3?

I remember when the ads first ran for it and I made a mental note that I wanted to watch it because I have a soft spot for David Boreanaz.  I don’t think I watched it, though, until a few years later.  It was something my dad and I enjoyed watching in the evenings.  My stepmom didn’t like it because it was lighter and sillier than things like Criminal Minds or Law & Order.

Lily Tomlin, without question

13. Which do you prefer, 1, 2, or 5?

OH.  I’m the most obsessed with 2 at the moment.  But, 1 has had me for six years.  And 5 is one of my original fandoms- it’s basically my home.  You can’t do this to me.

I’ll say 3 because I’ve seen almost all of them?  Maybe actually all of them?  Have I watched the end? OMG I can’t remember now. *mental note* But I’ve only seen a few episodes of classic who.

15. If you could be anyone from 4, who would you be?

I would want to be Grace so I could hang out with Frankie, I guess.  I don’t really want to be any of them lol I enjoy their drama, but I don’t want to be in the middle of it!

16. Would a crossover between 3 and 4 work?

If you stretched, I suppose.  It wouldn’t be the first time Voyager got flung in to the past or people from the past got flung in to Voyager’s present.  Generally speaking I’m not a fan of crossovers.

Look.  I’m a nearly-closeted Jack/Doctor shipper.  One of my favorite fics in the whole world is a Jack/Ianto/Tentoo fic.  I read it when I’m really down. I don’t bring it up much because it also has some personal stuff tied to it... But, yeah.  That’s my strange/okay couple.

I just love them so much, okay? how could I ever properly choose out of my wonderful gals?

Doctor you started with: Technically One, which gives me some nice fandom cred, lol. I only watched one serial of his tho, and the Doctor I first saw significantly was actually Eleven, because once I finished watching Being Human on demand on my parent’s TV (ah, high school....) I noticed it also had Doctor Who series five and watched that.

Favorite Doctor: This is such a difficult question for me rn negl!! I’ve always answered Ten, or Nine & Ten tied, and seeing as I like how their season were written and their characters developed, that’ll probably never change. But I also love Eight, and he really encapsulates a lot of what I think of the Doctor as a person, plus listening to BF audios/reading the EDAs kept me in DW fandom for a while even when I wasn’t enjoying the show at all. So......Eight&Nine&Ten? lmao

Favorite Companion: I’ve yet to meet a companion I haven’t liked, but Rose Tyler has my heart. She’s one of my absolute favorite characters ever tbh. Martha and Donna would be next, and maybe even Bill...? Genuinely love all NuWho companions tho tbh, and a lot of the Classic ones I’ve seen. 

Favorite Episode: God, idk that either. Maybe Turn Left? 

DW OTP: Doctor/Rose!! I ship quite a few Doctor/companion pairs, I enjoy Doctor/Master, but Rose/Doctor is my favorite by virtue of Rose being my favorite, and because I can see them in an actual relationship thanks to Tentoo.

Favorite line/quote: A thing about RTD era dialogue is that it’s not often very quote-y, and I like that quality as it means the dialogue is often quite naturalistic. (Also it’s been several years since I’ve watched any of these eps and can’t remember good quotes, lol). I do really love Rose’s “a better life” speech to Jackie and Mickey in Parting of the Ways though,, makes me cry evrytiem

There are also many side/one-off characters from NuWho that I love!

Favorite DW fanart/blog (if you have one): The majority of people I followed for DW back in the day have mostly stopped posting it lol RIP. For fanart, I do always enjoy seeing @johannesviii‘s lovely work!

If you could pick anyone to be the next Doctor, who would it be? (Why, if you feel like explaining): I honestly want it to be someone I don’t know! I agree with the commentators that say the right step forward for the show is an actor of color, though. Pls not a a white cis woman lol

If you could pick anyone to be the next companion who would it be? (Why?): Like with the Doctor, I wanna be surprised!! 

Favorite fan theory: I can’t think of any one in particular off the top of my head, but I actually really enjoy a lot of the more creative Gallifrey headcanons, about their biology, the caste systems, etc (yes, even the ones about looms). I’m just a sci fi nerd at heart and that stuff’s fun tbh, although I prefer the actual canon to focus on the Doctor wrt his companions & Earth.

Doctor you started with: Time to admit the shame: at first, I skipped Nine. My sister and I already knew David Tennant from Harry Potter so we decided to start at The Christmas Invasion. We watched most of series 2 until we knew we were about to lose Rose and then we went back for series 1 to have more of her and better understand her history with the Doctor. Of course, fell equally in love with Nine as we did Ten, so that was kind of crushing to only have him for one series. But anyway, yeah, my first Doctor was Ten.

Favourite Doctor: Such a difficult question, because I always love the Doctor equally the same every single time, just in different ways. Choosing a favorite Doctor is always going to be out of the question. I suppose if I were forced to pin down a “my Doctor”, I have to say William Hartnell and/or Peter Capaldi. One is near and dear to my heart, he’s so lovely and he undergoes some of the most beautiful character development, and I think he very much embodies who the Doctor is at his core. Twelve feels like such a perfect amalgamation of every one of his past selves, and Peter brings such life and love to the character. He’s very much one of my comfort Doctors.

Favourite Companion: Alas I can't choose between companions either, but I do tend to have periods of loving certain ones especially. Aside from the 60s era companions, because they're all on my mind constantly and I love them all so much that putting them on a list feels almost unfair, a couple of favorites at the moment are Nyssa and Bill. And Sarah Jane, of course, is Sarah Jane, I love her.

Favourite Episode: To be fair, I haven't seen the entirety of the classic series yet, so my favorite episodes are very 60s-biased, and probably always will be lol. There are many that I love a lot, so I'm going to say The Romans as a tiebreaker (but to name a few, Marco Polo, The Chase, The Gunfighters, The Enemy of the World and The Mind Robber come very close). From the modern series, my favorite always has been and always will be The Impossible Planet / The Satan Pit.

DW OTP: Ian and Barbara, for sure. I have some other ships that I really really like but these two are always gonna win.

Favourite line/quote: “It all started out as a mild curiosity in a junkyard... now it's become quite a, quite a great spirit of adventure, don't you think?” Perfectly sums up the show. That night in the junkyard began it all, and it's come so far since then.

Favourite Character that isn’t the doctor or a companion: Though I personally tend to call her a companion, at least honorarily, I know she's technically not one, so my answer is Jackie Tyler. I always loved her.

BrOTP: Everybody?? I don't know. I really love friendships and Doctor Who has a long history with an abundance of them, each lovely. Just to have an answer, though, I'm going to say Steven and Dodo.

Favourite DW fic (if you have one): I don't actually read much fic. I love anything that @unwillingadventurer and @lissy-strata write. I used to read a lot of Ten and Rose stories but I can't really recall them.

Favourite DW fanart/blog (if you have one): There’s so much great fan art that I love, but I generally don't know who it's from lol. I’ll go ahead and say @lissy-strata again. :P

If you could pick anyone to be the next Doctor, who would it be? (Why, if you feel like explaining): I’m generally pleased with whoever they choose, since they always bring their own specialness to the role. If I had to pick someone it'd be Andrew-Lee Potts or Alexander Siddig. On the note of fancasting though, whenever they next introduce a new incarnation of the Master, I really want it to be Paul Darrow.

If you could pick anyone to be the next companion who would it be? (Why?): No preference in actors, really (though I have a secret dream of them casting me...). Character-wise I'd love seeing a companion from another time again. I’d love to see more alien companions too, but we presently have Nardole filling that particular role so I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't do another alien for a while. I’m still hopeful for a companion from the past or future though. I miss that dynamic. 

Favourite fan theory: Well, most fan theorizing is rooted in the modern era, and I typically try to stay away from that part of the fandom because it's pretty messy, so I'm not very well versed in the fan theories. The ones that come to the top of my head are 1) Nine travelled without Rose when she turned him down and that's where all of the pictures of him are coming from, since he seemed to be somewhat newly regenerated when he first meets her and reacts to his own reflection for the first time, and he was lonely and came back to make the offer again. It makes sense and I kinda like it. The other one I've seen, which makes me laugh every single time, is 2) Rory is secretly the Master. I’m pretty sure this theory got dumped a long time ago but sometimes I still find the remnants of it and it cracks me up.

Doctor you started with: Nine. I had been curious about Doctor Who ever since it was announced on a Harry Potter fansite that David Tennant would be the Doctor in the revival, but it didn’t air in my country, so I didn’t watch it. But I really loved Christopher Eccleston in Heroes, so when I found out he had been the Doctor as well, before DT, I decided to make an effort to seek it out. I loved him so much in the role I was unsure I’d continue watching when he regenerated!

Favorite Doctor: Plot twist: Ten ended up becoming my fave! I remember thinking: ‘Ah well, I’ll watch his first ep, and if I’m not convinced I’ll just watch the Shakespeare one with the Harry Potter references and I’m done.’ Well, I was convinced. He was so quick and funny, and I grew fascinated by the complex, contradictory aspects of his character that got explored more and more: the immediacy with which he’d form connections to people, yet his reserve about his past and his feelings; his vulnerability and his danger; his humour and his earnestness; his profound value for life, for better or for worse.

David Tennant played a blinder. I already brought up his comic timing, but there’s also his incredible expressiveness. I particularly love how he played a Doctor that could be saying or doing one thing, but in his eyes you could see what he’s really thinking.

I think he was written with great skill, making relatable mistakes throughout his arc, but always pushing through nevertheless, and that to me is truly inspiring.

Favorite Companion: Donnaaaaaaaaa! She’s so funny and heartfelt in her reactions, and cuts through the nonsense wherever she goes, bringing joy to people in spite of themselves. It’s lovely to watch a companion that’s so fully engaged in the spacetime-travelling life, finding so much happiness and meaning in it all.

DW OTP: Rose and the Doctor fit like a glove with only their lifespans standing between them, so I like the idea of Ten 2 and Rose being disgustingly happy and in love in their parallel universe.

Favorite line/quote: This show’s writing has always been its strength, and over more than fifty years it’s built up a catalogue of immortal lines that are impossible to choose between. Favorite Character that isn’t the doctor or a companion: Adelaide Brooke probably doesn’t count as a companion, does she? What a great character. That scene where she explains how seeing a Dalek as a child inspired her to explore the stars rather than seek revenge, because what would be the point of that? The Doctor melted and so did I. It breaks my heart how such a romantic soul nevertheless had the clarity to comprehend the situation at the end and the gravity of what the Doctor had done, and the steel to do what it took to turn it around. Which in a way is the essence of what she’d always been: someone who could intuit the bigger picture and would put aside her personal loss in service of it.

BrOTP: Ten and Donna! Donna was exactly what the Doctor wouldn’t have known he needed, and they had a blast together, brilliant chemistry.

Favorite DW fic (if you have one): Can’t choose, but these are my favourite writers: thirty2flavors (tumblr), tripwirealarm (tumblr) and rosa acicularis. Also, the No-Nose Dog Project aka the Spanish fanfilms makers.

Favorite DW fanart/blog (if you have one): So many incredible artists in fandom. Some faves include Adele Lorienne,  Alice X. Zhang, Anni Viech, Halorvic and Paul Hanley.

If you could pick anyone to be the next Doctor, who would it be? (Why, if you feel like explaining): No idea but a POC, please. And maybe this time it can be someone chill with a dorky self-effacing sense of humour? Feeling kinda done with the arrogant lecturing.

If you could pick anyone to be the next companion who would it be? (Why?): I love your idea of Clyde Langer and Rani Chandra! Especially as Rani Chandra is my patronus.

Favorite fan theory: lol I love fan explanations for inconsistencies in the show. For example, I like to think that the Eighth incarnation of the Doctor really was half-human because of the influence of having regenerated on Earth so many times. He was joking about it being on his mother’s side.

what’s your otp for your muse?

Definitely Liu Shan x Xingcai. The potential chemistry they have, professional and platonic and romantic, is very exciting for me. I like to think they are a couple that will explore each other as their relationship progresses, along the way revealing facets about themselves that they have never shown before. Which basically means in my case that I can make them do almost anything and it can be believable. For me writing a fanfic for those two, that helps a lot.

what are you willing to rp when it comes to shipping?

Pretty much ANYTHING! I like all sorts of ships, platonic, romantic, sexual, fobidden, hateful, acquaintainships, political, WHATEVER springs to mind. And even then, these relationships with other muses aren’t always set in stone. Liu Shan changes ever so slightly in my mind as I write him and as a result he can switch moods with the same person. Heck, I’ve done it in a thread before!

how large does the age gap have to be to make it uncomfortable?

I don’t personally mind different age gaps in fiction (I mean, it’s fiction) but I limit any romantic/sexual relationships to be within a 10 year gap. It’s not 10 years because of my preference but more like I feel Liu Shan wouldn’t be interested in someone who’s too old or too young. Romance with

are you selective when shipping?

I am completely unselective when it comes to shipping with very few exceptions, that being ships that I find abusive. Sure I play along with some of the more ‘popular’ non-canon interpretations of Liu Shan like how he’s some secret BDSM masochist but those are usually as jokes. Don’t get me wrong I don’t want to discourage writing about abuse as I think it needs more exposure and I certainly do hint at it sometimes but if I do it, there’s usually some moral/story point to it. Abuse for the hell of it? No thanks.

Outside of that, I really am not selective. Each muse has some potential chemistry with my muse and it all just boils down to “do I think Liu Shan will take this relationship one step further?” and the answer really does vary.

You whip the genitals out and do the helicopter, that’s pretty much NSFW, that’s what I say. No but seriously, though my previous statement is MY opinion on what NSFW is, I understand a lot of people in this fandom think it is something far milder than that so I usually put the Read more when the clothing is about to come off or the more ‘inappropriate’ thoughts begin to arise.

who are other muses you ship your muse with?

Well it seems I am famously known for my ships with @perfumednightingale and @nobleconsort. Yueliang and Zhen Huan—from the two blogs mentioned respectively—are as different as can be, fire and ice, sweet and bitter. And yet Liu Shan has some rather sexual relationships with both these women (thank god not at the same time that’d be terrifying) and after reading my first threads with these two, ironically they both start out the same way: Liu Shan revealing his true self and his true intentions to these two women whom he connects to for reasons he has yet to understand.

I personally will always be a fan of the interactions with @professor-goodwitch and the ever-awesome Bacon with @cutthroathero/ @zhuge-kongming/ whatever they’re doing now. Those two helped me settle into this RP fandom and I always treasure the silly, crazy situations they have with each other. Liu Shan will always care for them, albeit in the way a roommate cares that their other roommates don’t trash the house while he’s gone.

I should also talk about the more mellow ships, the ones that may not get much attention and that goes to @oath-of-three-arrows, @heavenssoaringwings and @severemarquis for kinda but not really putting up with Liu Shan. Whether it be as friends or as enemies or as acquaintainces, they all have a special relationship with Liu Shan that will probably never change or grow into more than what it is but that’s still alright in my books.

HELL no! You can just make a thread and suddenly Liu Shan’s, like, in love with you and I’ll be cool with it. Just, uh...if you’re gonna try and manipulate my character’s point of view at least keep it believably how I write him.

how often do you like to ship?

Every now and again, I’m not picky but I also don’t really feel the need to seek it out nowadays. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll ALWAYS be waiting for another Xingcai to whisk me (read: Liu Shan) off my feet with their strong yet feminine arms but until that time comes, I’ll just sit and wait.

are you multiship?

Don’t get me wrong, I have threads with Yueliang and Zhen Huan and I love them to pieces but they are technically non-canon. Out of the canon characters in DW, I cannot imagine Liu Shan falling for anyone else other than Xingcai. I’m multiship when it comes to crossover muses or muses outside of the canon but inside the DW canon itself, Liu Shan x Xingcai will be my OTP fo sho

are you ship obsessed or ship more-or-less?

Honestly, Liu Shan x Xingcai is the only ship I’m ship obsessed with. For every other fandom I’m in, I’m pretty OK with whatever ship’s popular and I’m pretty OK with whatever fanart or fanfics there are—however little they may be for some fandoms. But Liu Shan x Xingcai? Oh GOD you can’t believe the amount of times I ended up squealing because SOMEONE ELSE OTHER THAN ME posted stuff about those two. Doesn’t even have to be romantic or anything, just SOMETHING about those two.

It doesn’t help that a lot of fanfics in the Dynasty Warriors section usually make Liu Shan a scapegoat by villainising him to legitimise Xingcai’s romantic relationship with someone else in their fic. Like, I’d be fine if it’s one of those one-sided things and he lets her go but forcing her to marry and later RAPE her is not only COMPLETELY out of character but it sucks for fans of his character like me. It also reduces the likelihood of other fics about the two because other people may be scared. Hence why I’m writing one currently. If no one else will make the content, I guess I’ll have to do it.

what is your favorite ship in your current fandom?

Read above. Lol, but outside of those two, I kinda like the Qiaos and their respective husbands, it’s very cute. Recently, I’ve liked this very specific relationship between Liu Bei and Sun Shangxiang that they loved each other but it kinda mellows out to this strained but trusting relationship. Also, it helps if Sun Shangxiang stays in Shu to adopt the role as Liu Shan’s mother so I have another reason to explain why Liu Shan is attracted to dominant women. (Not that he won’t become the dominant one in the bed room, wink wink)

finally, how does one ship with you?

Do you exist? Do you not want to kill Liu Shan at first sight? Do you not mind my random silliness and my character’s tendency to become dark at the most random of times? Then you’ve got all you need to ship with me XD

Tag Game: Doctor Who Edition

Doctor you started with: Nine.  I started with the episode “Rose” and continued in chronological order until I was caught up with NuWho, which at the time was between “The Angels Take Manhattan” and “The Snowmen.”

Favorite Doctor: Ten.  He’s got the winning combination of several companions I adore, a really wonderfully written character arc, and a delightful actor.  Second place is a close tie between Eight and Nine, and an honorable mention goes to Six (but only the Big Finish version).

Favorite Companion: ...is it cheating to say a three-way tie between Rose, Martha, and Donna?  I usually say Donna if I have to pick one but I can’t properly defend that position; I love them all too much.  Also, because I can, I’m gonna pick a favorite BF companion too, and say Evelyn Smythe.  (Sorry Lucie Miller, you’re a very close second place.)  Who doesn’t love a middle-aged historian with a penchant for chocolate cake?

Favorite Episode: “Turn Left.”  It’s always fun to see companions interacting and all the Rose/Donna stuff here is gold, and it’s a wonderful lead-in to the s4 finale (which is basically a space family reunion, how can I resist), but the biggest reason is that I adore its central premise, that even ordinary people can do great things.  It’s basically RTD’s 45 minute thesis on the role of the companion, and I totally agree with him.  For BF, “Jubilee,” although like all stories about fascism, it hits a little too close for comfort these days.  And I’m gonna add a shout-out to “Doctor Who and the Pirates” because pirate musical!  (As a bonus, both work as stand-alones and are only $3.)

DW OTP: Doctor/Rose, for sure.  Partly because it is a really well-done relationship, but also the only competition is from Eight/Charley, and BF kinda backpedaled on that after “Scherzo.” (Which is also a very good serial, though decidedly not a stand-alone.)

Favorite line/quote: “But it was... it was a better life. And I, I don't mean all the traveling and seeing aliens and spaceships and things, that don't matter. The Doctor showed me a better way of living your life. You know, he showed you too. That you don't just give up. You don't just let things happen. You make a stand. You say no. Favorite Character that isn’t the doctor or a companion: Adelaide Brooke, from “Waters of Mars.”  Can’t resist a lady astronaut, and her death really gives the episode its punch.

Favorite DW fic (if you have one): Oh man, this is a question I was better equipped to handle three years ago.  I know I still have a bunch of things bookmarked on my old Teaspoon account.  But I’m gonna go with Time v.3.0, which is both an excellent fic in and of itself, and, since the fucking 50th anniversary special, is the one true canon of the Time War in my head.

Favorite DW fanart/blog (if you have one): For fanart, @halorvic.  I have some of their buttons on my backpack!  I don’t have a favorite DW blog, mostly because everyone has fled to other fandoms after seven years of Moffat.

If you could pick anyone to be the next Doctor, who would it be? (Why, if you feel like explaining): Any actor of color, honestly.  

If you could pick anyone to be the next companion who would it be? (Why?): Camila, you took the best answer (Rani and Clyde from the Sarah Jane Adventures), so I’ve got nothing.

How I feel about this character: THE BALL OF MY EYE. my precious darling baby girl. my golden girl with flowers in her hair. i LOVE her, i ADORE her, i would DIE for her, i love her so so so so so so so MUCH. she’s my favourite character in the series naturally i just love her SO MUCH 

All the people I ship romantically with this character: every single sansa ship is CURSED and i want them all to burn to the ground so i can dance on their ashes and burn them for the second time. EVERY single time i go into her godforsaken tag i have to get past heaps of fucking sansan (literally my second biggest notp ever), ppl shipping her with TYRION, with JON, with LITTLEFINGER, with THEON, with MARGAERY and whatnot. EVERY single ship with her is garbage, she is 11/12/13 through the series pls find jesus immediately

My non-romantic OTP for this character: i cry at her relationship with arya, the way they eclipse and mirror each other, the way that they’re still in each other’s hearts even after years of being apart. like idk but out of the stark kids the bond between sansa and arya is the strongest imo, they were created to balance each other out after all

My unpopular opinion about this character: say what you want but she’s the most sorrowful out of the stark kids & i really don’t care if u disagree. it’s because of lady. their wolves were literally part of their souls, it’s implied that all stark children are skinchangers and their wolves are their soulmates in a way, but sansa? sansa’s wolf was killed off early in the first book. such a sad child, my heart will always ache for her.also on another hand, ppl be acting like sansa/margaery is somehow woke or whatnot because it’s a femslash ship but it really isn’t? don’t get me wrong i love margaery but she’s a known snake in the grass, her only use of sansa was to… well, use her for her name, for her claim, for her heritage, she never gave a fig about her as a person and ppl who think that this ship is somehow better than all the rest of garbage sansa ships are… a little delusional in my opinion

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: sansa and arya are really the only characters i actually root for. i want them to survive. i want sansa to inflict vengeance on everyone who wronged her. i want her to stomp on littlefinger’s little finger while he begs for mercy before he’s exterminated. i just really want sansa to prevail

Doctor you started with: Gotta be Eleven, at least officially, but I did see some of Ten before that, before they were kicking off Matt Smith’s seasons. So I guess that dates me LOL!

Favorite Doctor: Twelve, with Eleven a close second. I loved Eleven’s whimsy and was at first sad to see him go, to the point of rejecting Peter Capaldi outright as the Doctor. But Capaldi retained some of the whimsy while also being his own badass outright (I saw some clips of him being awesome and dove right in). Also his electric guitar skills. And that song Clara.

Favorite Companion: Bill Potts.

Favorite Episode:  OOOOO a hard one... I love a lot of the scary ones: Sleep No More, Flatline, Last Christmas, anything that introduces a new monster. Including Blink.

DW OTP: Another hard one... I don’t think I really have one...

Favorite fan theory:  A friend and I have many awesome theories about Weeping Angels, but my personal favorite is that they’re less psychopathic and way more Blue and Orange Morality. And they find us just as confusing and terrifying as we find them, but hey we’re food.

Other fandoms:  The Little Vampire, National Treasure, Legends, Hitman: Agent 47, TURN: Washington’s Spies, I’m getting into Queen of the South but I’m not sure if I’m in that fandom yet.
