(Also applies to both yuri and hetero ships.)
It's all about the balance. Even if the abused partner is also an asshole, if they are mistreated by their partner without returning 'the favor' to them, that's not 'toxic relationship that is such a shitshow on both sides, that it's entertaining to watch'. It's just abuse that should not under any circumstances be romanticized or downplayed by the show/movie or its fandom, even if it's fictional.
#this post is about st*litz and c*tradora specifically#but they are far from the only ships#that get terribly mischaracterized by the piece of media#and its fandom#fandom discourse#fandom stuff#anticatradora#anti stolitz#she ra critical#helluva boss critical

Ah, he never changes..Vanitymoth is back with another shitty review and this video proves he truly doesn't understand or gets Murder Drones as a whole, say whatever you want about the finale as I've had a few issues about the finale myself and think it could've been a bit better but it was at least satisfying and entertaining. I'm not even surprised by this (in the slightest) since as I've said in my post about Vanitymoth, he's almost never positive about whatever he reviews, he barely has ANYTHING positive and praise to give when it comes to the pieces of media he reviews even though there are things you can praise but Vanity choices not to, it just feels like he has very high standards and if they don't meet up to his expectations then he just sees them as bad overall and sees his opinions as definite facts everyone should take to heart and listen to, this dude is just insufferable both to listen to and watch.
He also hearted this comment here...As someone who's in both communities I personally don't think the MD community is as awful and terrible as the Helluvaverse community can be, tbh. Yes, the MD fanbase has shown to be terrible and awful but that's all fandoms, all fandoms are toxic and terrible no matter how big and small, and just for the record the MD fanbase has been called out before by many people. And one more thing, although all fandoms are toxic, there's also good aspects to them as well too. There are good aspects to the Murder Drones fandoms as I've met and see many incredible people in there, despite its bad aspects in the fanbase it's still a fine enough fanbase with some bad and good apples but again, no fandom is perfect and you'll always have good and apples no matter what fandoms you're apart of.
But I'm overall tired of Vanitymoth and can't stand him for the life of me, he's very unbearable as a cartoon reviewer and just doesn't understand MD, this comment says a lot honestly and I personally don't think he's truly ever cared about the show because he gets so much wrong about this series and these characters and overall gets them wrong and mischaracterizes them to make them look worse as a result and to fit his own narrative and shitty theories.
Listen, if y'all want someone, a YouTuber who ACTUALLY understands and gets Murder Drones, actually understands the characters and gets everything right about the show and the theme of it itself, if y'all wanna watch a reviewer who gets MD, please go watch Sarcastic Chorus. Although I don't always agree with his opinions, he's always valid and positive with his opinions even when seeing the flaws in whatever he reviews, he's a great and much better YouTuber than Vanity. And just like @wayward-delver said when it comes to Sarcastic Chorus, SC genuinely understands how the show was meant to be understood and watched, he sees the hard work, love and dedication that went into the show and he's also able to point out flaws without being a dick and shooting down the fans of the show.

saw trap idea: get them hooked on a really cool and intriguing piece of media but the entire fandom is either perpetually horny or terribly mischaracterize all of the characters

i would love to get through the rest of this season without being ashamed of the TMA fandom
how many times is it going to take folks to learn that a list of CWs is not the same thing as an episode summary, and that you don't actually know what the fuck an episode is about until you listen to it or read it? because now we have people accusing RQ of co-opting black voices and writing an episode about black death and profiting off it.
hey, y'all. since you obviously don't know. the episode is about a white person who experiences the horrors of police brutality and the carceral state because their privilege stops protecting them, and explores how someone who has clearly never had to think about that shit deals with being thrust into it. the refrain of this statement giver is iirc "this kind of thing doesn't happen to people like me." the ode of the privileged class.
and if you don't wanna listen to that, if that's rough for you, jfc that's FINE. that's what the CWs are FOR. but reading the CWs and playing a game of telephone about the content of the episode bc you want a reason to harass RQ and accuse them of shit makes you the asshole.
and also, frankly, as someone on my discord pointed out? it quashes ACTUAL discussion. what I find really interesting about the episode is that I wonder if for ppl who live with police brutality, if this is MAG180 was for me.
MAG180 was the episode where I had to pause the statement because I was LAUGHING at it. Like, it completely didn't work for me. I grew up nominally jewish and heavily agnostic. I lack any concept of the religious abuse people go through, and so a lot of the episode just... fell utterly flat for me, because it was so divergent to my experiences as a non Xtian or former Xtian person.
Now. Does that mean people who did connect to it are dumb or their traumas are bad? NO! Here's a wild concept: in a show about displaying many different types of horror that now spans almost 200 episodes, not everything is going to land for everyone. Not everyone's fear and trauma is the same.
MAG180 was not for me, and for a lot of people MAG185 is not going to be for them. But when we have a vocal minority of this fandom that is telling RQ "not only are you terrible people but you don't have the right to tell this story" WHILE ALSO purposefully or ignorantly mischaracterizing what that story even IS because they don't fucking know--
our discourse gets stuck. We're stuck.
Another example: my public take is that anyone who wants to write Jon, an asexual character, having sex should be allowed to and if you don't like it, shut up and hit the back button. But at the same time, I wish I could have the in depth talk about how we depict ace people having sex, the many ways ace people feel about sex, the nuances of it, etc.
But I can't! Because there's a vocal minority of assholes who call people freaks if they write sexy fanfic, and those people keep the discussion level stuck at fucking 101. I can’t talk to you all about the expert level shit because I’m too busy protecting people’s ability to even comfortably try to write the damn thing in the first place.
This fandom, I feel, has yet to learn shit. When you see a piece of media you don't like and your first tactic is to jump to "this creator is bad and shouldn't create this thing," instead of discussing anything with real depth and compassion, we have to just drown out and deplatform people like you, so nothing gets done! Until people learn to engage critically with text and have any nuanced reaction, everyone else is fucking stuck, and it's so goddamn frustrating!

Summary: The Impotence of Gabriel Agreste
Notes: I’ve received some amazing fanart for Rebellion. @redcoloredpanda drew Luka and Adrien snuggling, and @momo-oh-nono drew Marinette’s rocker outfit! So now chapter 17 is writing itself in my head, yay! Thank you for inspiring me!

Chapters 1-2 | Chapter 3 | Chapter 4 | Chapter 5 | Chapter 6 | Chapter 7 | Chapter 8 | Chapter 9 | Chapter 10 | Chapter 11 | Chapter 12 | Chapter 13 | Chapter 14
------------
Gabriel Agreste watched, fingers steepled, as the scene outside the school unfolded. He had, of course, realized quite quickly attempting to counter Adrien’s claims would be a foolish move. True or not, he would look like the villain if he were to try, accused of homophobia and perhaps classism given the way this Luka boy dressed. He had cancelled the story that was to appear, and hopefully nothing would leak.
On the bright side, he had a patsy. Lila was a loose cannon, currently proving so to the entire world, and he could easily claim she had mischaracterized her relationship with his son. She was currently trying to do the same thing, taking advantage of the fact that Adrien had not yet arrived to the mob of reporters.
“He told me he loved me. He told me we would go public, and he used me and then dumped me,” the girl was telling a reporter tearfully.
Gabriel was rather displeased with the implications of that accusation, which could impact the brand.
Fortunately, the reporter was more interested in the limo that had pulled up and deposited… was that the young designer?
The girl nearly fell, but someone rushed forward to embrace her. When the camera focused…
Kagami Tsurugi.
Nathalie shifted beside him, and he could feel through the miraculous that she was as startled as he was.
He could only assume Adrien was also in the limousine; from the “leaked” text messages the previous night and implications on social media, Marinette Dupain-Cheng was an accomplice. But this meant the scion of his business partner, someone he thought would be a good influence on his son, was likely also involved. Her presence was unlikely a coincidence.
Perhaps this was information he could use, but he filed it away for later as none other than Jagged Stone exited the limo next.
Despite the video the night before of the “jam session,” it was unexpected to see the rock star accompanying his son to school.
The announcement came as a surprise, as he didn’t follow the music world terribly closely, and certainly not a ruffian like Stone. Gabriel had been unaware that Marinette had been so prolific, that she had designed anything beyond the bowler hat.
“Please prepare a dossier on Mlle. Dupain-Cheng,” he ordered Nathalie. She immediately began to tap away on her tablet. “And perhaps her parents as well. We should know who we are dealing with.”
Next to leave the limo was Adrien and his… boyfriend. Clearly, the Gorilla had not been able to intercept them as ordered. Though he’d seen the disaster that Adrien had made of his hair in the photos and video the previous night, it still shocked him.
He studied the body language of his son and Luka Couffaine, frowning. They appeared to be close, the other boy looking at him in such a way as to make the “boyfriend” claim believable. For the life of him, Gabriel couldn’t figure out how they could have met—though from the dossier Nathalie had prepared it seemed the boy’s younger sister was in Adrien’s class.
When Mlle. Tsurugi caught Lila’s wrist, he found himself letting out a breath he didn’t know he was holding. From the angle of the camera he had been uncertain who she intended to hit.
The teens played for the cameras masterfully, and Gabriel couldn’t help but be a little impressed. If this was staged, they had organized a believable PR opportunity on extremely short notice. If they weren’t working against his interests, he’d consider giving them internships at Gabriel.
Beside him, Nathalie let out an involuntary incredulous snort at Lila’s ridiculous accusation of pederasty.
Luka Couffaine gave a remarkably level response, and barely had Lila spoken again than the cameras jostled, moving around in a way that made it difficult to see what was happening, though it sounded like Lila let out a little shriek.
The camera’s focused on a young woman with purple in her dark hair as she yelled, “How dare you talk about my brother that way! You’re not worthy of the bottom of his shoes!”
Rather creative, as far as insults went.
Jagged Stone saw fit to introduce the girl as Luka Couffaine’s younger sister, who had been mentioned on the dossier Nathalie had prepared on the “boyfriend.” And identified their mother as a former bandmate of his.
Gabriel let out a disgusted sigh. Of all the riff-raff Adrien could consort with, he chose someone close to a disaster of a man like Jagged Stone. That certainly explained why the rocker was involved.
Lila’s desperate claims that Luka Couffaine was courting Marinette Dupain-Cheng, though interesting, were quickly refuted.
And then Kagami Tsurugi spoke, a complete falsehood as Gabriel had not been aware of this supposed boyfriend before Adrien took his Instagram account rogue the previous evening. He would have to find out if she was being misled or intentionally lying to damage his image.
He frowned at Mlle. Dupain-Cheng’s allegations of sexual impropriety toward Adrien by Lila, glancing toward Nathalie. “Have HR investigate that.”
The cameras jostled again as Lila childishly threw herself at the girl. When they focused, Lila was on the ground, a woman in a smart business skirt suit looking down at her with a bored look on her face.
Nathalie started typing notes on her tablet as the woman, apparently M. Stone’s lawyer, outlined a list of charges against Lila. Her fingers stopped at Lila’s accusation—which, while twisted, was technically not entirely a lie.
Gabriel narrowed his eyes. He had miscalculated, using this girl. She was far too much a loose cannon, clearly, out only for herself. He had known that, of course, but thought her controllable, someone who would not bite the hand that fed her.
“Have HR fire her immediately. Gabriel social media should put out a statement announcing that, stating an investigation will be made into the sexual assault claims.”
More drama unfolded on the TV, the situation interrupted by the inept principal of the school. Lila’s attempts at getting Mlle. Couffaine in trouble were cut off by the lawyer, who announced further charges based on the defamation and attempted assault against M. Couffaine.
He watched, stewing, as a touching goodbye took place between his son and the other boy, as they exchanged pet names, even.
Truly, if this was a performance, much had gone into it in under 24 hours. It left him uneasy.
The paparazzi continued filming as Mlle. Tsurugi left, as Jagged Stone tried to coax his ridiculous crocodile out of the limo, as Adrien and Luka flirted further, as Lila shrieked and tried to interrupt through what would have likely been violence if not for the snapping crocodile taking offense to her.
Her ire turned to Mlle. Dupain-Cheng, whose large father stepped in front of her as a shield, before she was scolded by the principal and ordered into the school.
Lila’s last attempt to turn matters in her favor, claiming Marinette was a bully, was laughed off by Jagged Stone.
The press swarmed them, calling out questions that were largely inane at best, though the one questioning the relationship between Mlle. Dupain-Cheng and Mlle. Tsurugi caught Gabriel’s attention.
“I think a call to Mme. Tsurugi shortly will be in our best interests, perhaps,” he murmured.
“I’ll add it to your schedule, sir.”
He was impressed when his son shut down the reporters, asserting his right as a minor not to be filmed. The boy had jumped to defend Mlle. Dupain-Cheng from a question regarding the “leaked” text messages, confirming he released them himself.
Ending his association with Lila Rossi was necessary, particularly if she was foolish enough to leave such damning evidence to be released.
The drama moved into the school, where the cameras would not follow, and Gabriel stood.
“You will watch through a butterfly?” Nathalie asked.
He only nodded in response as he moved past.
Gabriel didn’t transform until he was safely in his lair, ignoring the reproachful look from Nooroo. He quickly sent an Akuma out toward the school, letting it hover so he could get a better picture.
What he found was… boring. The group including Adrien and Mlle. Dupain-Cheng were seated outside the principal’s office, waiting on something. The girl herself was half-asleep against her mother.
Movement and anger caught his attention. A woman was stalking across the courtyard, then up the stairs. She marched right to Mme. Bustier’s room and started yelling… in Italian.
He guessed this was Lila Rossi’s mother.
The argument spilled into the open-air hallway, the rage from both of them potent Akuma possibilities—though he preferred not to use the younger Rossi any longer.
The Akuma was noticed, he realized, when shock and horror assailed him from all around. The Akuma dipped lower, drawn by the tumult, only to be captured.
Lila Rossi’s mind was a dungeon of grudges and entitlement, filthy and haughty. It always had been, but the sheer narcissism of her inflated self-import was cloying in a sickening way.
Before he could even begin to speak to her, though, pain assailed his senses, and he was abruptly aware that his connection had been severed. When he had his senses back, he realized his Akuma had been captured in a jar. He didn’t know what had led to that, but the emotions he felt were even more promising than the Rossis’.
The guilt and horror and anger of Alya Césaire was so potent he sent the Akuma beating against the glass to try to reach her, to no avail—it was only as strong as a simple butterfly. He couldn’t Akumatize her, no matter how powerful she would be. He couldn’t send out another Akuma, not with one already out, and Nathalie wasn’t strong enough for another try at Scarlet Hawkmoth, though this was the perfect occasion for it.
Before long, the Akuma was shut in darkness, and was thus useless.
He snarled in frustration, letting his transformation fall. Nooroo only regarded him silently.
Useless.
Only the mundane was left to him—a call to Mme. Tsurugi, after he’d calmed.
It would be hours, the Akuma long since purified by Ladybug, before he’d realize he could have recalled the power and sent out another.
No amount of railing at Nooroo would give him that opportunity back—and the kwami only murmured cheekily, “You didn’t ask” when Gabriel demanded to know why he hadn’t recommended it.
--
Marinette felt her phone buzz on her lap and snuck a peek at it.
Kagami: Are we dating now, too?
She could feel the heat rush to her face. A coughing fit overtook her. She only vaguely aware of what was going on around her, until a cup of water was pushed in her hand and she found herself in the hallway with Adrien.
He looked concerned, so she silently showed him her phone.
Another text had come in, as it turned out.
Kagami: M. Agreste called my mother. She wishes to know the answer to the question from that reporter.
To her surprise, he quirked a cheeky grin, his eyes lighting up. “Oh, you should.”
He was going to be the death of her.

Conrad Murray’s trial for manslaughter predictably became about Michael Jackson instead of his doctor because the use of Propofol was unusual and the patient was famous. In court, the displaying of medication bottles was high drama and the media pounced and rushed to publish “Michael Jackson’s addiction.” A close look at the dates, the number of pills prescribed measured against the number taken, number left and span of time the pills sat in that bedroom proves not that Jackson was an addict, but that he was actually non-compliant with medications he was prescribed. But that isn’t sexy; and it’s all about sexy and getting viewers for a trial that was predicted to be “bigger than the Casey Anthony trial.” Except it wasn’t. Hysteria fatigue, perhaps? Have we had enough? Pundits on HLN seemed to push the “addict” label because it suited their agenda to promote books and careers. “Michael Jackson” has promoted many books and careers involuntarily as people conscripted his name for their own purposes. HLN was no exception. An addiction specialist physician jumped on the same “addict” meme despite the conflicting information between addiction, bottle labeling and usage, and despite medical records entered in evidence that were unsigned and confusing. The physician’s questionable records were allowed in court but the physician was not and he wasn’t made able to explain his treatment of Jackson for facial procedures to reconstruct his face. Jackson had Vitiligo and Discoid Lupus — the same disease which has left the entertainer Seal, facially scarred. It is entirely reasonable that Michael Jackson’s face be treated and re-sculpted; he made his living on stage. That same physician also hypothesized that the nightly use of Propofol accounted for the poor condition of Jackson’s lungs while it was well known to insiders that Michael Jackson had a Tryptophan Synthetase Deficiency which is a lung disease characterized by a lack of protein for lubrication. Jackson’s fans could have enlightened any one of these talking heads but they didn’t fact check nor ask fans. If you want to know something about a sports or pop culture figure, ask fans who know everything about them. In fairness to the pundits, the coverage could have been much worse and the fans could have been depicted in a much poorer or darker light. Unfortunately the fringe elements of fandom were highlighted and that included conspiracy theorists who believe that Jackson is alive and in hiding. And for the most part, fans behaved well except for an occasional scuffle. Mainstream Jackson fans who get less attention than the vocal fringe, are articulate, thoughtful, bright, and interested in justice and vindication. Many are professionals who contribute to society, pay their taxes and raise children in the suburbs and cities. They have an interesting story to tell society should anyone ever want to listen. What they have to say is shocking. The trial, it seems was all about Michael Jackson despite Murray’s dalliances are well known — seven children with six women, his methodology even in his clinic appeared reckless to other physicians and one who ventured: “The only thing Murray could have done that was more dangerous was to push Jackson out of an airplane without a parachute.” And what doctor ships a stockpile of medication to a private residence? What doctor using a dangerous drug does not have the proper emergency equipment required for safety and for resuscitation when he is the only one there in case something happens to the patient? The drug labeling requires it as do protocols. A simple regulator pump that would have saved Jackson’s life by regulating the flow of Propofol according to body weight and dosage guidelines would have cost $1,500 of a salary one hundred times that per month. Murray owned a clinic; if he could order Propofol in bulk, he could order medical equipment that would have saved Jackson’s life. Yes, it was the Michael Jackson trial because once again, Jackson was put on trial even in the afterlife. And it’s ironic that the most compelling piece of evidence came not from the prosecutor or from the defense, but from Michael Jackson himself. Jackson, whom a nurse anesthetist says sounded like he was under the influence of Propofol — with no cameras filming, no media in attendance, was clear about his motivation, his intention and his future plans even in that sedated state. He said: “Elvis didn’t do it. The Beatles didn’t do it. When people leave my show I want them to say ‘I’ve never seen nothing like it in my life. Go. Go. I’ve never seen nothing like this. Go. It’s amazing. He’s the greatest entertainer in the world.’ I’m taking that money, a million children, a children’s hospital, the biggest in the world. Michael Jackson’s Children’s Hospital. Gonna have a movie theater, game room. Children are depressed — in those hospitals, no game room no movie theater, They’re sick because they’re depressed, Their mind is depressing them I want to give them that, I care about them angels. God wants me to do it. God wants me to do it. I’m gonna do it, Conrad. Don’t have enough hope; no more hope. That’s the next generation that’s going to save our planet starting with - well talk about it. United States, Europe, Prague, my babies. They walk around with no mother. They drop them off, they leave — a psychological degradation — that. They reach out to me — please take me with you. I want to do that for them. I’m gonna do that for them. That will be remembered more than my performances. My performances will be up there helping my children and always be my dream. I love them. I love them because I didn’t have a childhood. I had no childhood. I feel their pain. I feel their hurt, I can deal with it. ‘Heal the World,’ ‘We are the World,’ ‘Will You Be There?’, ‘The Lost Children.’ These are the songs I’ve written because I hurt, you know, I hurt.” A children’s hospital or healing center was Michael Jackson’s dream. And this is not the first time the subject of medical treatment and healing of children has come up in Michael Jackson’s legacy. When Jackson’s slurred declaration was first reported Jane Velez Mitchell of HLN declared on air that this recording of Jackson proves what Michael Jackson fans have been saying all along — that Michael was misunderstood and mischaracterized and Neverland Ranch was misrepresented to the public. She called the conversation vindication for Michael Jackson. She only said it once as that very same day people who made money with “hit piece” biographies chastised her on Twitter and she went silent. Conrad Murray is not the first nor the last person to be privy to Michael Jackson’s dream for children. In an article by Italian journalist Silvia Bizio, Anjelica Huston who played opposite Jackson in the Captain EO film for Disney, accidentally ran into Michael Jackson about a month before he died. They hugged, hunkered down in a room together and caught up on each others’ lives. Huston remembered Michael as being tender and fragile, having trouble mustering up enough anger to carry out his role as Captain EO with a spaceship crew who sings ‘We are here to change the world.’ She said it was as if anger didn’t live in his DNA. He needed her there, in costume and sneering her lines to play off her villainous character. Huston said he seemed even more fragile especially emotionally, during their brief encounter. She put her arms around him; she says: “We talked about how he had felt humiliated by the accusation of sexual harassment and about the sorrow for the loss of Neverland, where he had lived many years. I remember his words: ‘They ruined my dream. I had this dream, perhaps childish and foolish, a place designed to celebrate the innocence of that childhood that I never had, and they took it from me. I love children, I could never do them harm. I spent all my life loving them and trying to do good things for them. The libel of harming a child—that breaks my heart. It is an unbearable pain, those accusations are unjust and terrible...’ As he said these things, he began to cry. I held him in my arms...He was so skinny and frail.” Jackson told her he was preparing for the London concerts. She remembers: “He was training hard because he would have ‘no more hope to be loved back again.’ He wanted to be let back in to the hearts of the public after his public lynching for something he said he didn’t do and a jury of his peers agreed with. Huston goes on: “he was thin and pale; I could feel so much pain in him for the past and a lot of anxiety and uncertainty for the future.” When asked by Bizio, “What do you think really killed Michael Jackson?’ Anjelica Huston didn’t hesitate: “Michael had a broken heart. For this he died. The truth is that they broke his heart.”
