ah, my favourite question to answer, fuck it, this time im going to give the long answer:
a primer on FIP
you know.
i dont have the best memory of my past, i truly dont. i claim that certain things happen at certain ages but there is no way for me to know for sure.
long long ago i decided, a bit at random, that the age at which i came up with the concept of FIP industries might have been when i was eleven. that was a guess, an educated guess but a guess all the same.
i know the very first idea of something akin to fip industries came to me on a family trip after watching the now forgotten cartoon show called the project zeta. and this all happened roughly in 2003 - 2004. so that is why i use that date.
which would mean that its been 20 years since i came up with this project. i do remember distinctly that i promised my self at that age that i would not allow maturity or growing up to take this thing away from me. that i would not forget this story or these characters. indeed that i would make it grow and dedicate the surely considerable resources i would have as an adult to make it come true.
and i didnt.
ten years after that, when i was 21, i wrote a novel called F.I.P. industries. it's... fine, for a first draft of a first work of someone who had never written a novel before at 21 years of age. it develop the story, it crystalized it. it gave it a coherent shape and a strong foundation. what's more, it cemented the arcs of many of its key characters, characters that had started as broken, improvised toys made out of key chains and legos and pieces of toy cars. the lore also went through an EXTENSIVE overhaul, i incorporated elements from other stories, fused characters together into a single character, changed the race and gender of many other characters, changed dates, names and arcs around and streamlined the whole thing.
then in 2020 i decided to overhaul the entire lore a second time. dramatically changing the timeline and the importance of certain characters, cannibalizing a bunch of other stories, retooling a lot of things and, once again, pushing everything into a new direction.
and of course i should add that during those 20 years i kept adding characters, side stories, spin offs, lore, backstories and actually continued the story along. twenty years have passed both in the real world and in-universe.
and given that this is the story's 20th aniversary (i think), it is time for me to share this story with all of you, from beggining to end, explaining every character along the way. this is going to be a long and arduous excercise and i genuenly dont know if i am going to get through it all, but i will try all the same.
ill be making a series of posts under the tag #FIPindustries the story can be divided in three eras, it will be one masterpost per era, where i will go over the main chronology of the story and the main characters in each era.
Era 1, also known as the golden years covers the founding and original expansion of fip industries as a research lab covering multiple different disciplines and fields of studies, trying to find synergies between the different investigations. this was all financed and directed by its founder, Filander Ignatius Patrick. this era ends with the collapse of the company during a terrible incident that ended up killing, vanishing or transmutating most of its employees. what few survivors there were left scattered to the winds. key characters in this era are Montogmery J. Black, also known as the shadow, Craig Sterling, legally assigned as grim reaper, and Franchesca Turimov, cyborg, rabble rouser, bad news.
Era 2, also known as the dormant era, covers the fallout of fip industries collapse and the different stories of the multiple scavengers that managed to salvage the lost technology from the ruins of the company. this era is mainly dominated by Maximillian Sicamore, a sinister man with many secrets and even more plans, who used to be an employee at the company and one of the few survivors of the collapse. key characters in this era are Maximillian Sicamore, criminal mastermind, proud father, The four crazy kids, Marten, Ralph, Sarah and jessica, freelance heroes, The harpsichord crew, sky pirates.
Era 3, is the return of FIP industries to its former glory under the helm of maximillian's son, Erik Sicamore, who takes over his father's empire, re hires many of the old scientists that survived (and many of those who didnt as well), and includes a fresh batch of new blood, amongst which you can find many of fip industries old enemies. Under the control of Erik the company is redirected to more "charitable" goals, such as finding a source of infinite renewable energy for the world (which is all a front for his real plans, killing god). key characters for this era are Erik Sicamore, leader of FIP industries, broken man, trans, Peter, tamed serial killer, Leenard and Sasha, scientists, lost in time, lost in space

"For All Mankind"

The lofty motto of the Aldsten Empire, one of the primary ruling powers of the Western Territory and a major antagonistic force in the story. They rely on intimidation to keep their citizens in check. At the time the story takes place, they have a number of small, failing colonies on other continents and are struggling to maintain their foothold as one of the world's leading industrial superpowers.
This is concept art I made when designing and exploring the major players and other lower ranking individuals.
Soldiers and guards of varying ranks are clad in standard issue dark blue uniforms, peaked caps bearing the winged insignia of the empire, and gas masks to conceal their identity and strip them of any individuality. They can often be seen patrolling the streets of Dronreugh or working as palace guards. The empire has recently been rolling out test runs for highly advanced clockwork automaton soldiers, virtually indistinguishable from their humanoid counterparts.
Inferno troopers are higher ranking foot soldiers authorized to handle powerful flamethrowers. They are primarily used for clearing out forests, settlements, and other landmarks the empire considers obstacles in the way of expansion. Soldiers often joke that being promoted to this rank is a curse due to the dangerous conditions and the prevailing legends of a vicious "forest demon" that hunts you down.
Clerks, secretaries, telegraph operators, and other white collar government workers don a pair of goggles along with the standard hat, these individuals are known to come from many walks of life and can include humans, half-elves, dwarves, and even sometimes Dragonborn.
The Brigadier is a woman only known by various titles, and one of the highest ranking military officers. Sharp and tactical but very distant. Her mysterious nature and somewhat sudden appearance within the empire's ranks has caused rumors to spread.
The Wolf is a crude and sadistic vagrant who appeared around the same time as the Brigadier and serves as an enforcer. Over the years he's received various experimental enhancements to his body, all created by the royal scientist.
The Marquess is a shrewd nobleman that gained a lot of favor with the Emperor after some successful business dealings and is often seen by his side. He presides over public exhibitions and handles diplomatic business, among other tasks. A slimy, jealous man, his views often clash with those of his superiors.
The Emperor is an intimidating behemoth of a man, and the empire's leader. Suddenly thrust into a position of power as a teenager, his ambitious plans and interest in technology drive his ruthless ideologies forward. A popular rumor abounds that he's nothing more than a figurehead, however these are often vehemently dismissed.

The 21st century has ushered in technological wonders beyond our dreams. From this, the DIY art scene has grown tremendously and fluidly where more expansive and connective networks have formed which has furthered the scene as a whole. However, within the last year, the art community has been hit with its biggest technological and ethical challenge yet. AI Generated Art.
AI Generated Art is a type of computer program that has jumped into the spotlight recently. Some of these programs include DALL-E, Midjourney, StableDiffusion, and NightCafe Studio. Essentially what it does is an AI will take a user generated prompt, scour the internet looking for images that fit within the reference, then compile set images from the inputted results. With this program, anyone with a computer and a creative mind can utilize the program to create pieces of art or media that would otherwise take weeks, months, or even years to create. While this is a massive advancement in AI technology, it is making many DIY artists worried.
However, the concept and practice of AI art generators aren’t new at all. In fact, one of the earliest programs called AARON was developed in 1973 by Harold Cohen. This program was more oriented towards “performing tasks as directed by the artist.” as opposed to being a full on art generator. Since then, many programs have been refined and developed to utilize machine learning technology, algebraic formulas, and different coding practices that integrate data analysis.
The DIY art scenes foundations are built upon physical interaction and creation with their artistic mediums without the artist conforming to industry standards or the status quo. However, with the introduction of this type of technology, it seemingly puts in jeopardy the scene itself and everything it stands for. What will happen to these communities when more people access AI Art Generated programs? Will DIY artists be replaced completely by a seemingly almost sentient program? Will DIY artists be able to maintain their culture while also adapting to the ever changing environment?
The primary concerns of AI Generated Art is the capability of the program to create something no one else has created and its qualifications for art. For starters, the program itself is absolutely fascinating when it comes to creating a piece of never before seen art based on a user generated prompt. While it is impressive it is at the same time terrifying. Through this, it has the potential to saturate fields of art with quantity over quality to the point where innovative and creative pieces no longer stand out. Unique, inspirative ideas are no longer original but rather they blend into the potential amalgamation of generated art. Artists with standout qualities and skills no longer are seen or heard but rather fade into the abyss of mediocre rendering of bears riding unicycles in a pit of chocolate. 
Due to this oversaturation, it also begs the age old question of what even is considered art. Does art need to come from a sentient being in order for it to be considered? Or perhaps developed skill and talent along with unfettered creativity and passion behind the artist's medium? In this case, it seems that anything not created by an AI can be considered art. Therefore, when AI generated art becomes indistinguishable from human made pieces, the dilemma arises.
It is also worth mentioning the financial and art industry implications of utilizing AI art programs. In August of 2022 a man named James M. Allen entered an AI generated art piece by the title of “Théâtre D’opéra Spatial” into the digital art/digitally manipulated photography division under the Fine Arts competition at the Colorado State Fair. He won first place and $300 for his piece. This sparked outrage in the art community as he seemingly duped the judges and other competitors. However, in the process of submitting, he made sure through various different communicative avenues, from saying in the subtext of the piece that it was developed by an AI art generator to getting approval from Olga Robak who oversees the Colorado State Fair, that he was allowed to utilize his AI art piece. This instance of AI art winning over other human competitors, especially with a financial prize involved, may seem to some as theft or fraud. Furthermore, if this type of engagement with AI art spreads to larger competition and perhaps even galleries it may have the potential to diminish the qualifications and entries of human competitors. However, I don’t think that this falls on the individual artists but rather the industry as a whole. A simple mitigation to this controversial issue would be to designate a specific digital AI division within competitions or galleries. Therefore, if someone were to submit an AI piece, they still can be featured and express themselves without confusing audiences and sparking outrage. But this shouldn’t be the main solution. The main solution comes in the form of equitable integration, where the program isn’t necessarily the finished piece itself but rather a brushstroke on a larger canvas.
While all this may seem scary and quite frankly terrifying, it shouldn’t be. Many of the arguments towards AI created art are very reactionary in nature. The chief of them being the aforementioned question of whether it is considered art or not. AI Generated Art programs aren’t as easy as many may think. There are many programs that have extreme depth and nuance to them. If someone wants to utilize the program to create something provocative and profound, it takes hours upon hours of editing and revising topics, constraints, sizes, references, etc. The amount of time it takes to craft something of genuine quality could be equated to someone who is physically taking the time with materials to produce something.  Furthermore, artists have been using advanced technological programs in order to create art for quite some time. Take DAWs for example. Digital Audio Workstations are programmed with various intricate editing techniques and instrumental packs that musicians can use. A musician can make a music pack from this program, use their MIDI, and create beautiful music from it. So what’s the difference? In both instances artists are just inputting data, refining their work, and producing a product that is both consumable and of quality. The difference is the AI part. And to that I pose the question, aren’t we all just computers? We all have a CPU (brain) that processes data and outputs it in the form of multiple reactions and expressions and feelings. I think we’re just too afraid and scared to admit that we’re becoming gods in our own little world.
So what do we do with this? How should the DIY art scene proceed? In my opinion, we should embrace it. These AI art programs can help grow our community and foster innovation. By excluding and fearing them, we ruin the chance at making our community more accessible and inviting. Many people want to participate in artistic practices but don’t have the materials, time, or refined physical skill to do so. Therefore by embracing these programs instead of discrediting them, we can welcome multitudes of new artists who have a fiery fervor to produce but lack the skills to do so. 
Due to the simple yet nuanced qualities of AI art programs, it can foster creativity and inspiration while also acting as a doorway into different art mediums for new artists. Look guys, art materials are extremely expensive and in order to hone in on your skills and creativity, you’ll have to buy in at some point. For many people, that just isn’t an option. So by destigmatizing the use of AI generated art programs we won’t be as exclusionary and gatekeeping to our communities. Furthermore, by integrating AI art programs into our mediums, we can find new sources of inspiration and ways to hone in our skills than we would be able to before. Many of us run into brick walls when it comes to creating. However, because of the expansive nature of the program, we have an unending bag of inspiration to reach into and pull from.
Despite hearing all of this, I’m sure you’re still scared and apprehensive of the idea. I get it. I am too. However I encourage you to not be as reactionary. Take time to use some of the programs and see what you can do. Deliberate upon it and come to a conclusion. If you still feel the same at least you tried. However, if you’ve been swayed, I encourage you to try and use it for some of your work. Play your part in destigmatizing the practice so that other artists are more encouraged and less intimate to take part.

It’s one of the only places in Dallas making the Japanese fast food classic.
George and YuYee Kaiho of Ka-Tip Thai Street Food leaned on George Kaiho’s childhood as inspiration for Ookuma, which they opened in late June 2024.
Teriyaki burgers, said to have first been created by a Japanese fast food chain in the 1970s, can be found on nearly every street corner in Kaiho’s native Japan.
He saw a wide open opportunity to introduce them to Dallas, the city he’s called home since 2005, he said.

Ookuma means "big bear" in Japanese, and Kaiho and his wife designed the restaurant's logo to match.
Kaiho, bar manager at cocktail bar Jettison, started making Japanese burgers during the pandemic and served them for a while at the bar as sliders.
He resurrected his recipe when Sandwich Hag chef and owner Reyna Duong asked him and his wife if they wanted to sub-lease her closed restaurant’s kitchen space.
Duong will reopen her Vietnamese coffee shop ChimLanh alongside Ookuma in the coming months.
“I was confident it would work as a concept,” Kaiho said of Japanese burgers.
He couldn’t find any restaurants in Dallas serving Japanese burgers, but he knew they’d be a hit in a city that has proven its love for both burgers and Japanese food.
He also felt compelled to bring a lesser-known facet of Japan’s rich culinary history to Dallas.
Ookuma’s teriyaki burgers, which come with pork, beef or vegan pea protein patties, are the kind of burgers you can’t easily (and wouldn’t want to) set down after the first bite.
The teriyaki sauce yields a delicate patty and a softer-than-average burger.
To make the burgers, Kaiho first gives the patties a quick sear, then finishes them in a simmering, thin teriyaki sauce.
As the patties cook, the meat absorbs the sauce, creating a supremely flavorful burger.
Kaiho serves the patties on toasted brioche buns with Kewpie mayo (no other kind will do, he said), crisp iceberg lettuce and four dill pickles.
The magic of the burger is in its simplicity.

Along with teriyaki burgers, Kaiho also serves a panko fried chicken sandwich with tartar sauce, chicken karaage, takoyaki (battered octopus balls), korokke (potato and meat croquettes) and furikake-seasoned fries.
The menu is simple, and Kaiho plans to keep it that way.
After all, Ookuma is his third job, and he doesn’t consider himself a chef.
“I’m a bartender,” Kaiho said.
“In that sense, I have never cooked and probably will never call myself a chef.”
Kaiho does consider himself a project guy, though.
He’ll pick a food and study it until mastery, then move onto his next project. Ookuma is the product of his pandemic-era Japanese burger project.
His hope, he said, is for Ookuma to be received as not just another burger spot, but an expansion of the city’s diverse culinary landscape.
“I would be very happy if people who live in Dallas feel it is a cultural addition to the city,” he said.
