my bus driver this morning was so funny, he spoke as if he was straight out of a 1940s film. he was like ‘ah, yeah, i used’a love that city, when the blue jays won and the leafs had a chance -sighs forlornly-’
#that city = toronto hahaha#then he was complaining about the traffic in toronto#anyway absolutely hilarious everything he said just felt like it was out of a 1940s movie#we were almost late but he got me to my destination right on time and he goes#‘how’s that for timing! 😏’#clari chatters#clari chapters#so funny

hi this is gonna be my niall experience as I just need to get it out and I’m sure irls are SICK of me talking abt it <3 pls enjoy or ignore up to u
proof being delusional works!
june 27: I fly my ass out to toronto!!! and at this point I’m just giggling w a friend joking around what if I meet Niall
june 28: today is niall’s 1st show in Toronto hehe
I was eating lunch at a random restaurant I stopped by on queen st and I was soooo excited / nervous I couldn’t eat! basically forcing myself to eat so I don’t die at the concert fjdjskks but yeah after like half an hour of picking my food I start to feel unsettled.. and a lil bit uneasy! idk it was suchhhhh a weird feeling but u always gotta listen to ur gut!!
U GOTTA LISTEN TO UR GUT!!
DONT IGNORE IT
it was sooo strange like at that moment I knew I had to leave the restaurant RIGHT NOW and so I did! I was like half an hour walk away from my air bnb so I’m like that’s fine I’ll just walk back & still have plenty of time before the show to get ready and stuff! there were so many different ways to walk back. I could’ve crossed the street earlier or turned the corner sooner but the path I chose led me right to Niall 😭😭 I wasn’t even looking for him!!! but I was waiting for the crosswalk… look up and who do I see? NIALL FUCKING HORAN RIGHT THERE
- ngl tho niall in a cap and sunglasses is such a great disguise FJKSKAKA I would not have recognized him if tour manager wasn’t with him! shoutout to jstir (I met him when I was like 13 when he was working for Cody simpson and taking everyone’s m&g photos fjdjskks that man’s face is engraved in my mind so I was able to recognize him pretty quick!) like who knew my 13 year old phase would come back 10 years later and help me out !!!
anyways so Niall is across the street and I’m just fighting w myself debating if I should go up to him or not 😭😭 the saying never meet ur heroes is kinda true JDKDKAKA it changes u & all the expectations u have! Ultimately I figured that this was my 1 chance to say something so I just went for it. If I didn’t I’d probably regret it for the rest of my life!
I just know my voice was shaky and I was super nervous but niall was so sweet and patient <3 like I felt so bad just going up to him 😭😭 hes just out and about… trying to be incognito & enjoy some free time FJSKKA like I am quite aware but when else could this happen u feel 🥲 anyways here is the convo from what I remember bc I blacked out (as u do when u meet ur fave)
me: hi Niall!! just wanted to say hi and let you know how excited I am to see you perform tonight and tomorrow <3
niall: hi how are you! oh you’re going to both shows? is that right? we’re actually headed to the venue now
me: oh! If that’s the case I don’t wanna keep you guys. Would it be alright if we took a photo?
niall: yes of course!
the photos (cropped myself out bc Toronto humidity is my enemy & I was a sweaty mess from walking back to the air bnb)
and then I just say thank u so much! see u at the show hahaha and SPRINT OFFFFJFKSKAK like I ran so fast bc I needed to get away and scream 😭😭
mind u I be carrying my leftovers the entire time JFKSKAK SO FUNNY
I DIDNT EVEN INTRODUCE MYSELF! WISH I TOLD HIM I FLEW MY ASS OUT! THAT HE NEEDS TO TOUR MORE CITIES IN CANADA! TO PUT NEW ANGEL ON THE SETLIST!! so much I wish I said but again thankful they were on the way to the venue so I was forced to keep it short so I didn’t continue to yap and embarrass myself further. it could’ve been so much worse! just gotta remind myself that.
sat in the air bnb for like 2 hours in silence trying to process what happened fjdjskks would’ve been longer but I had to get to the show! anyways I was like 15 rows back on the floor and had the best time <3
june 29: Toronto night 2!!!
I’m sat 2nd row floor… right next to the barricade and I’m so close I know that niall can see me 😭😭😭 idk if it’s the delusion but I keep making eye contact with niall and he keeps looking at me! probs thinking oh is it that weirdo from the street yesterday 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 LMFAO but U TELL ME!! IS IT DELUSION BC I THINK I GOT PROOF RIGHT HERE
felt too perceived by him tbh JDKKA needed to run and hide! like eye contact was crazy djdjjsjs
OKAY THAT IS ALL FOR NOW I THINK! if u made it this far I am so amazed ty for reading the rambles <3

I am reading Affliction and I am OBSESSED. As a Toronto resident myself i’ve gotta ask - was Zuzu based on Toronto? The poutine + double double made me think Canada, but after the aquarium and tower I was totally convinced!
Obviously you don’t have to share, was just wondering :) Love your work!
Hahaha. You found me out!
You're spot on. Zuzu is heavily based on Toronto because it's one of my favorite cities. :)
Fun side note: the aquarium is based on Ripley's Aquarium of Canada in Toronto, ON, CA, and the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.
And thank you for taking the time to reach out. I love hearing from readers, and I'm so glad you love my silly little (well, more like ginormous) story. It means so much to me. 💙🥺

this is kinda a weird thing but I can reality shift no problem when I'm fully awake.
Just the other day I was fully shifted to TWD as we were driving home from my grandparents' house. I got REALLY excited to see a plane and when I turned around to point it out to Shane and Lori (this was a shift to like basically precanon. They found me as they were leaving the city, alone and only a little older than Carl, and Lori convinced Shane to take me with them) I got pulled back to reality cause actually that's my parents driving the car and we're leaving Toronto, not Atlanta.
But what I haven't been able to do, no matter how hard I try, is shift in my sleep. I've tried both unscripted and scripted, I've used music, I've tried several different subliminals, some with theta waves, some guided methods. Nothing. Nothing has worked.
Then last night I just go to sleep, not trying to shift to any reality, much less The Walking Dead. If anything I would have expected yet another Supernatural shift
But with zero effort I shifted to the walking dead, which also hasn't happened (low-key started to think I either got overconfident in my ability to survive and got myself killed, or my parents actually dragged me out of town and we all died either to walkers or the government, cause my brain just would not let me go there.)
And as happy as I am, I'm also pissed, because I'm not going to be able to shift back just because I don't know what I did! Like I literally did not do anything!
And I do know that this was an actual shift, not just a random dream, because it continued one of the shifts that I partially scripted. I don't like to script every little detail, I tried when I was getting desperate, but I like to leave room for the story to adapt and change and feel more natural. I don't want to know every little detail of what's going to happen, especially when I'm shifting to TWD.
I'm not quite sure why we went back to the specific script that we did if I'm being honest. Like ok, I'm a savior, great. But there are other realities where I am also a savior but it's before we run into Alexandria. I like those ones better because it means I'm not grieving the loss of several of my friends and comrades, and I'm also not considering siding with Simon on his little rampage to destroy the communities. Hell there are some where I'm a lieutenant myself. Which is a WAY better position to be in. I mean I'll take being a soldier over working for points any day but being a Lieutenant is where it's at y'all. We have it sooo good.
Surprisingly (or maybe not) I don't really enjoy being one of Negan's wives. I say that's surprising because if y'all know me, you know that I want to fuck Negan so bad it makes me look stupid. But I just can't sit in that room all day waiting for him. It actually drives me insane. I love him, I'm the only one in that room who actually loves him, so the others all hated me at first. Tanya still doesn't like me very much, but Sherry has definitely warmed up to me a little bit. Like I am 100% there for the girls, I have zero intention of ratting on them to Negan, but they don't fully trust me and I understand that. The fact I will take every possible opportunity to get out of that room, including sneaking out, did help though. I'm still trying to figure out how Frankie feels about me. I really like her, she's my favorite of the girls, so I hope she likes me too to some degree. I want us to be friends. Obviously I do draw the line at any plots against Negan, THAT I will absolutely be telling him, but I doubt any of them would talk to me about it if they were planning something.
Ah sorry I'm rambling about things that are not totally relevant hahaha
Yeah anyway
Brain did a silly. I'm conflicted about it cause I want to go back but also yay!

TOOL PART I!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey everyone, here's my 12th review of 2023, Tool!!!!!!!!!! Reason this is my 12th review is because last show I saw was Unleash the Archers with Lutharo, but I didn't bother reviewing that show as to me that was more of a local show and I had missed Ammo at that time as well. But anyways, this was my 4th time seeing Tool and first time in 4 years seeing them as I last saw them on 11/12/2019, which was 4 months before Covid took a stranglehold on the world and when I saw Tool both times 4 years ago, they delivered the goods live.
Let's start the festivities!
First band up was Steel Beans. I had never heard about them before, but from what I saw it was a one man band who could drum, sing, and play guitar all at once and that took a helluva lot of mad skill to perfect those 3 things at once. In between songs the Steel Beans dude told a story of meeting a chap in a washroom in Saskatchewan and the chap said something about being in a small town and noticing the Washington state licence plate, and the dude said to the chap that they were heading to Manitoba to which the guy replied "Manitoba's a shithole" which drew laughs from the crowd and he then mentioned Toronto and Montréal and the chap said "Oh those are both shitholes and all they do is vape with that Blueberry cheesecake" and then went on another comical rant. All in all, he was more entertaining compared to Killing Joke. At the end of his set, there was a giant bag of popcorn that dumped from the rafters, which was fun to watch.
After Steel Beans it was time for TOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This was my 4th time seeing Tool as it had been 4 years since I last saw them which was their 2nd show on 11/12/2019 and at that time, Tool played a number of their hits which included Schism, Parabol, Parabola, Ænema, Vicarious, Forty Six & 2, etc. This setlist was more deep cuts this time around, which was a pretty good change of pace if you ask me. After Fear Inoculum ended, Maynard was telling the crowd to get loud and he said "Toronto, this is one of my favourite cities, don't embarrass me" and he then also said "Don't make me call you Montréal" which drew resounding boos, probably from all the diehard Argo fans who were still salty after they got trounced by eventual grey cup winners, Montréal Alouettes, hahaha 😆. He had also told the crowd to "Keep your phones in your pocket" in line to their strict no photos and no recording policy. Before Tool got into their last song Maynard had said "Here's the deal, take out your fuckin stupid cellphones you selfish entitled pricks" in which it was him trolling the crowd like he's known to do and he said "Here's the thing, people in the front, no light, no flash, no light, no flash. If you do it! We'll have no choice but to come down there and shit in your mouths" which drew resounding laughter and Maynard continued "I mean not healthy like runny option shit, but your hands are tied now, open your mouth wide. We love you, see you tomorrow". Maynard definitely was making the crowd laugh with his in-between song banters. I'll also say at 59 he's still got it and it's more remarkable he made a recovery from having contracted covid 3 years ago and having his lungs damaged from when he first contracted it in February 2020, and he's since contracted it 4 times but he sounded great on stage. Here's their setlist:
Fear InoculumPlay Video
The PotPlay Video
Rosetta StonedPlay Video
PneumaPlay Video
DescendingPlay Video
The GrudgePlay Video
Jambi(with Alex Lifeson) (with “A Passage To Bangkok“ intro and guitar solo)Play Video
Intermission
Chocolate Chip TripPlay Video
Culling VoicesPlay Video
InvinciblePlay Video
StinkfistPlay Video
Dancing Queen(ABBA song)
All in all a great show and a great way to spend a Monday night. Tonight is round 2 for Tool.
HEAVY METAL FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Day 6: It's time to learn!
As English pedagogy students, we wanted to enrich our culture more, so we went to explore a school in Toronto City to know how the education is done and how much different it is from the education in Chile.
As part of our proyect, we went to some schools to know more about the educational system and its characteristics
1. School Levels:
Canada: So, in Canada, You start with elementary school (grades 1-8), then move on to high school (grades 9-12), and after that, it's off to college or university if you choose.
Chile: Down in Chile, it's quite similar. You've got your basic education (grades 1-8), followed by secondary education (grades 1-4 "medio" thats the equivalent to grade 9-12 in Canada), and then you can also head to university or technical institutes for higher education.
2. How They Grade You:
Canada: Canadians tend to use letter grades, F is the worst, and A+ is the best. But this can varies by province and level of education.
Chile: In Chile, it's all about that 1.0 to 7.0 scale.Being 1.0 the worst and 7.0 the best that you can have. (BTW, We hope we get a 7.0 in this project, hahaha), sometimes the marks could eveng go since 0.0 or 2.0 depending of the school or city.
3.Lets talk about money $$
Canada: Education is usually free through the public system. University and college might have some fees, though.
Chile: Chile has both public and private schools. Public education is free, but private schools can cost you a pretty penny. University fees vary, and scholarships exist but might not cover everything. For example, Millaray is studing with a load that the banks give her which its called "CAE" that she had to pay when she start working, however Miguel is studying free because he has a schollarship that the goverment give him.
4. Language:
Canada: English and French are the official languages, and most instruction is in these languages. But bilingual programs exist in areas with a strong French or indigenous presence.
Chile: In Chile, it's all Spanish, but you can learn English too, in the school they teach English and there are institutes that teach only English like "Instituto Britanico". but we do not have to forget about our culture, there is another language called mapudungun, it comes from our original people, unfortunaly, just few people know this language and with the time it has been decreasing his speakers.
5.Inclusion and Special Education:
Canada: Canada is all about inclusivity. Special education services are available to support students with diverse needs.
Chile: Chile is working on being more inclusive, but it's still a journey to ensure that every student gets a fair shake.
So, there you have it, amigos and amigas! While Canada and Chile both have their unique flavors in the educational kitchen, there are also some tasty similarities. From elementary to higher ed, it's all about learning and growing.
something good for both countries is that they have plenty of programms for academic exchance, so the opportinities increase way more, and you do not have to be studying in the country hahaha

Omg! You have seen him in person! Stop being chicken and get over there! Lol! I live East of Toronto and have been to lots of games but I’ve never seen him outside of a game. I’ve seen him in videos only give autographs to kids so I feel like if I asked for a pic with him or an autograph and he said no, I’d probably take it personally. I’d be so upset.
Omg obvs you don’t have to share where hahaha but I’m from east of the city too! Well, north east hahaha but I probably know where you live. ANYWAYS man see I’ve never gone up to him cause I don’t want to bother him right like I don’t know, seeing him the few times I have ofc it took me back a bit and I was like hello???? But he’s also just a person and one time he was with people and another he was on the phone also no one else around me realized it was him so I wasn’t gonna just go up to him and be like heyyy and interrupt lmaoooo maybe one day if I see him again and don’t think I’d bother him

Thanks so much for tagging me @mjf-af !
I'd say about 2 times
2. Y E S I D I D ! I bought a Dark Blue BTTF T-Shirt at BlueNotes at the mall which was perfect because it happened to be my favourite colour and the logo gives the perfect contrast ! PLUS it has orange which is also my favourite colour as well ! My dad also bought me an action figure of Marty in his Part II 2015 outfit at Toys R Us lol very cool stuff
3. I've never tried Pepsi but everytime I see it now it just reminds me of Marty and how much I'd love to give him a can/bottle LOL
4. I'm not sure if I have a favourite haha
5. Woo! This is a tough one... I love a lot honestly but @future-boi 's artwork of Marty and George on the ground looking at each other really caught my eye. The message and art style is super wholesome and the colours work super well together ! I said this in the comment box and I'll say it again, it looks like something I'd want to have on a very nice quality front cover leather notebook and the whole thing is pastel purple! And that fabric thing that closes and keeps your notebook intact is brown just like the font ! https://www.tumblr.com/future-boi/735057220355735552/ive-been-searching-for-the-meaning-trust-me?source=share
6. I sure have created BTTF fanart! The one I'm proudest of at the moment is this one I made with both Doc and Marty in it and the film's sick iconic logo (https://www.tumblr.com/pepsifox88/724319280042311680/so-i-said-ill-upload-both-marty-and-doc-together?source=share) The reason why is because it's really the only art piece I have right now with both of them in my line less art style and it's really wholesome to see both of them side by side
7. I can't recall but I wasn't the type to be late for class
8. Hahaha I love this question, yes I have! I watched a bit of Family Ties in terms of shows but in terms of movies I've seen Midnight Madness (This is actually a really funny movie lol), The Secret Of My Success, Stuart Little, Bright Lights Big City (I haven't finished watching but it's such an emotional roller coaster), Teen Wolf (Also haven't finished watching but LOL what a film so far)
Starring the one and only Michael J. Fox of course !
9. Totally ! The Heart Of Rock And Roll ! My dad plays this tune in the car when I'm with him and it's bangers man ! 10. Lol I don't recall falling so zero !
11. I've never seen it before
12. a lot
13. "This Is Heavy!" - Marty McFly
14. trains - YES (Public Transportation in Toronto is very prominent !)
skateboard - No sadly ! I've always wanted to learn how to cruise around on one ride a horse - No sadly ! Would be such a wild ride ! But a ride with style !
Drive a Delorean - Lolllll nooo hahaha but that would be really awesome, I think I'd want Doc or Marty to drive the Delorean while I chill in shotgun because the car looks really cool and I don't wanna wreck it LOL
Run in the rain - yes hahaha
Go to a dance - yes I have although school dances at my school were boring and lame, no one really dances their heart out and plus the music is just not in tune with my taste
hang up a clock - I haven't LOL but maybe one day I will
Play the guitar - Noooooo but it sounds really cool to learn how to play one
Pull an all nighter - never have and I don't think I want too haha it's not healthy and I don't wanna end up feeling tired the next day
read science fiction - yess haha it's not something I'd just pick up and read but it's kinda interesting when I read it
Drive Thru Burger King - Flip yeah man ! My dad drove me to a nice burger king location a couple times this year, we didn't eat inside but we'd eat in the car and talk about life lol
15. Support my family and friends and post more cool BTTF art for you all folks! Additionally, I want to continue self care and self improvement ! Using time effectively while having a good time and having fun ! (Thanks again for tagging me ! I really enjoyed answering these questions : )
BTTF Year-End Tag Game!
This year:
How many times would you guess you watched the first back to the future movie?
Did you get any sweet bttf merch? If so, what!
How many cans of Pepsi Free did you chug this year?
What was a favorite bttf fanfic you read this year?
A favorite bttf fanart you saw this year? (please give us a link, not a screencap/repost!)

Your future is whatever you make it! So what are you going to make of this coming year?
I tag: @agentmcfly24601 @moonlightandstarshimmer @brinkle-brackle @bg-sparrow @bttf-dork @mrfutureboy @pepsifox88 @tsukinikawatteus @itsthemorph @synthsays and anyone who would like to answer these questions! as always, no pressure!

Blue Art, Red Wine
How did we choose this theme? Blue art to see at midnight (you and me)
M: Well, it was late at night, I was drinking with Peter and Johann, and we were frankly tired of art. The rhetoric, the jargon, the rigid categories of art, god, it was all so boring and conformist. The boundaries of location and time, for example, Dutch Still Life 1700s, no longer apply in this day and age. We wanted to move beyond that, into the soul, and truly connect with youth. Pete’s even got us hooked on this uh what’s it called low, low music?
P: Right, we are inspired by lo-fi music album titles, it puts you in the mood to look at art. When you get home from a tiring day at work, I like to pour a glass of red wine and listen to lo-fi. It reminds you of the hours between midnight and dark rainy mornings, when the sky is dark with a tint of blue. It clears my dusty soul...
J: I love the night! Makes me feel alive. Forgive me, I’m still a bit inebriated. My age must be catching up to me…
M: Ah careful, what if those are your last words, Johann?
J: So be it.
Why did you choose your piece of art or exhibition?
P: I am more of the techy one here, unlike Hans and Mike, those two are too consumed by their back pains. Though I have to admit, being on my phone in bed has not been great for my neck either...hahaha…. Anyways, I see myself in Chiao’s drawing, of course except that my room wouldn’t be full of silly posters and uncanny adornments. But the colours, the “vibe”, the little human figure, everything is so relatable, yet in perfect harmony. I aim to achieve that level contentment in life, and I want my readers to feel the same.
J: I would take offense to Peter’s comment, but unfortunately I learned how to ride a bike just a few months ago. Aside from the unsolicited comments, I’ve been feeling absolutely wonderful after a summer trip to a very hot place (definitely not Hell), and am now undertaking an infestation at a quaint old house in Toronto, which as you can imagine, is a very large ordeal. I’m honoured. Living in a city really allows you to become acquainted with what humanity really tastes feels like, and I find that there is creativity everywhere. Just yesterday I saw a tasteful mural on a fence by the grocery store! It’s as if that mural could transport us to a different time: these thoughts are what reminded me of Kanghee Kim’s photographs.
M: Oh I’m all about adventure, sweetheart. As a man plagued by insomnia and burnout and Instagram, I… need to escape. We all need that. Especially when you have “friends” like Pete and Hans.
The merging of art & architecture in New Circadia was simply sublime. When I went last year, each time was better than the last. The naps - bellissima! The soft pillow gear, the disco ball, the low-lights and hum, the recorded dreams all coalesced into this sanctuary.
After all, I write about what I’m drawn to — and maybe my next piece will be about a certain interviewer.
P: Of course the naps got you Mike. I agree with you that the New Circadia was indeed a much needed escape, simply the act of pushing through the heavy curtains resets my brain. Sometimes I don’t realize how tired I am until I lay in bed, and that was my experience with New Circadia. This brings me to think about our relationship with rest in everyday contemporary life, who decided to place such a heavy emphasis on productivity and efficiency. Do you live to work, or work to live?
J: Who doesn’t like a healthy dose of existential dread on a Monday morning? Although I haven’t personally visited the New Circadia exhibit, I have to say, I don’t find the idea of softness enticing. I prefer the hard cement of a Satanist church’s basement, or perhaps even the deteriorating wooden beams within an old Victorian house. But back to your question, Peter… I don’t know. I’ve been alive for as long as I can recall, but working for only the past two years.
M: That’s because no one would hire you, Hans.
J: As an immortal being, I have no need for earthly pleasure and glib monetary transactions! Plus, McDonalds already had a supernatural being working for them.
M: Then pay us back for the bubble tea.
J: If you want the money so badly, come and get it.
M: I’ll cut you in half, demon boy!
*muffled shuffling sounds, a singular groan of pain followed by heavy breathing from opposite sides of the room*
P: Idiots. Hopefully, you’ll feel better in the morning. I’m not writing this blog by myself.

...Tom sharpling also went as lana for halloween this year? Speaking of luke, and tom scharpling, and lana. I was on mushrooms with luke once just after new year 2015 and he got me into best show. (Basement apartment, sidewalk score white bauhaus couch, snow high outside. Both dismal and cozy, nauseatingly both, intoxicatingly both, the room on mushrooms was an infinite breathing in and out of glimmering malignancy contained in a dimly lit cube surrounded by an endless void, the place made the outside vanish somehow, like entering a bunker presuming the apocalypse, was the subconscious effect). Instagram tells me luke got cale weir onto scharpling, too, hahaha. Speaking of cale weir i met that one kid from the lana show on the soybomb roof with nat and shrew, so, spring '14, and they were super friendly but they were just leaving when i said i liked their slimer backpatch and then when they talked to me about it i was like oh its a kid, sheesh is this place lousy with children? Jay what on earth, this is why we (the fort) dont have shows anymore (a policy we should have stuck to honestly, even the anomaly show during pride '14 before i moved out of the fort in october that year, was a pain in the ass, because of all the misbehaving teens)(cheers to glorious time bomb, kampai baby, if we'd had as many shows as you did we'd have had rapes happening at some of them too im sure, and we'd have had an inadequate response too im sure, i mean like not to spill house tea but our rape responses were presumed internally by a teenager living with us to be "figure it out yourself" so she did that first and then told us, which like, pretty admirable how decisively she managed to get someone off the house roster and someone we all liked even better moved in instead so we wouldnt question it before she even ran the why of it all by us. People in toronto make moves). Fastforward to when i saw that kid from the show again: it was winter 2014, they were hanging out with cale at an ocad party where someone I'd hooked up with the summer before was drunkenly holding court about how fucked up trannies are to a bunch of ocad students totally enraptured by the spectacle of someone being so honestly problematic in such a gritty oldschool way (while also disavowing herself as being schizo and "old"-at-22) while there were trans people right there. That one kid from the show saw me and luke and was like "soooo cale, hanging out with the Punkssss," and then they sat down and pitched me on some coffeeshop in leslieville and i was like this is about the arcade somehow, because id finally figured out where is was, but i assumed the tone shift between soybomb and then had something to do with the arcade, or luke, or both, but i didnt even mention like i dont go to leslieville. I was just like oh maybe, i dunno thats so far away...
(This was after my random-latenight-bikerides-thru-the-east-side phase during the spring of '14 and before the living-at-the-spit-in-a-tent phase in the spring/summer of '15 (even so, i was avoiding leslieville proper to be courteous but the spit was the best place i could think of to have a permanent encampment in the city as an urban tenting noob, and i was honestly hoping that if i blogged it explicitly enough and hung out at the starbucks all day my old roomie who lived in leslieville would wander by and we'd talk, but it was nat who joined me there and that meant a lot to me, its nat im still friends with. just went to ottawa to visit)...i think the concerts were happening when i was in a pattern of couch surfing with nat and luke; i know nat and luke and i tried to sneak into the tragically hip show on canada day this same summer and then we ended up at emmas, and after we dumped luke and the hospital wheelchair off with marjie the next day, nat and i went back to the spit for a while).
Leaving that end-of-'14 ocad party Luke and i walked back to my place partway with mikey cheekbones while he talked about metal gear solid. I think mikey was aiming for what was, in his frame of reference, universally common ground, but luke doesnt know what msg is and ive like, watched an hour of ps2 gameplay at my friends house in highschool (so itd already been 10+ years by then) and absorbed a hypnogogic smattering of info about it memetically but it was not enough to parse the tangent mikey was on and he was like, ok this breakaway old people party is too old, goodbye. Later at the apartment I cried about the scene at the party to leni and while, at that time, luke came off as someone who reads loud dramatic sobbing as fake, i guess he sort of took it seriously in a way, because he was trying to cheer me up with the mushrooms and comedy radio a week or two later. Because, he had told me i should go to the party even after his roommate i hooked up with was there and starting her tirade. Luke swore he just didnt put 1 and 1 together and wasnt just trying to add to the drama but i never really bought it, so i guess what got bought was my forgiveness. Nahhh, he earned it, buying it would have been dropping off the shrooms and running. He did them with me and tried to curate a positive trip for me. It worked. Even when, later, after we'd gone out in the snow to a show and then left to go to another bar, he brought up carlos castaneda and again i was like this smacks of someone whos somehow aware of the situation with me and the eastsiders, specifically of someone whose been "warned" (or overheard a warning to emma) that im a wannabe cultleader, and i know exactly 1 person in toronto who's invested in that theory......Anyway when i saw the kid who recommended the cafe in leslieville again, the slimer-patch-sleeveless-plaid kid who knew cale weir, it was with luke and their two friends at lana, because they were a big fan. I went because we'd tried to get into ovo fest that year and gotten caught and i wanted to actually get in to a molson show, and i wanted to see grimes (imagine genesis live on poppers and grimes is still a queer marxist) but we were out behind the venue for her set, and which like, i was a fake grimes fan, i only cared about the 2 big songs. Compared to her opener lana's set devastated.
7 years later tom scharpling was lana del rey for halloween. I mean he's the best cosign you can get, really. Its vindicating that he agrees with me about her. "California's bruce springsteen" actually has potential as a compilation title
youtube
This was the first molson show i ever snuck into...i remember sitting down on the grass to do poppers and luke hauling me up to try to sing along with him and the others off a lyric site on someones phone. I had never heard a bunch of lana del rey songs all together before. All the previous couple years i would hear summertime sadness playing in public and i had finally figured out oh its that headdress girl. Ive told this story before. The ocad kids, especially the poc one, loved flirting with the problematic. Hanging out with luke even tho a famous artpunk said his band was a nazi band. Listening to lana del rey even tho she has colonial entitlement baked into her ethos. The question was are you having FUN? And if the answer is yes how much do you really care about the rest.
Hedonism is an ethic i respect the honesty of.
(You can tell im a virgo because i am compulsively compelled to couch my hedonism in self-critique and reflection)
(Also, to include a list)
Bangers.
I dunno like what am i saying? Try to place yourself there. Look at this setlist, at least. The amyl is probably pretty important...... I think you have to have a partly melted brain to sign off on listening to lana del rey for the aesthetic peak of it all, when that aesthetic is a bunch of weird coquette bullshit. What an artist, i mean that. Hard to know how to sum it all up. Tom sharpling says lana del rey writes songs about california the way bruce springsteen writes songs about NJ. Speaking of the boss, he wrote born to run and i guess thats a good enough segue into: probably born to die is where i was totally sunk wrt ever maintaining the abstentious highground. I was like welp, gonna be listening to this forever, now. I dunno i just didnt go into it expecting her sheer caliber to undermine my predisposition to dismiss her, and i got served so hard, i was undone by the whole experience. Actually being there was so viscerally impressive. But i think thats the selling hallmark of her music like even for home listening--its visercally impressive. She'll getcha. Now youre in a gingham halter pushing milfdom and hanging off the back of a motorcycle with an american flag, too.
It was cute when she was trying to rehab her brand of whiteness by working with the weeknd. She feels about hollywood how i feel about toronto. It fit neatly to me that they would collab. But like imagine having such a crackerific image that a "my black friend" cardpull was a step UP? Sort of like luke changing his band name and hanging out with me & those kids at a lana del rey concert haha

OMG me neither! I’ve never ever been to a concert but there are so many people, and tours in particular, that I wish I could’ve gone to. I understand about the expensiveness and the distance, I live in England and it is about a 4 hour drive to London. Which probably sounds like nothing to you, but to get to the top of Scotland from the bottom of England takes 8 hours. So for me it’s a way away. Yeah I agree with that whole thing about the money. But luckily, Gaga doesn’t actually price that high compared to other successful females of this century (£500 to see Beyoncé! No thank you!) but yeah, she is still a lot of money. I’ve never been to a concert, or a Gaga concert, but I would’ve killed someone to go to one of her tours. Especially Born This Way Ball. I would’ve loved to go to that one! I do have the Monster Ball on DVD though and it’s soooo good. I might be going to Chromatica, it dependant on whether or not I can amass the funds for the ticket and transportation and accommodation cause no buses or trains run that late. I hope you do end up going! I’m manifesting it!
continued: Although last time I manifested something I ended up with ball cancer, so... I might not manifest for you actually 😂
i’m with you on that! i wish i could have seen so many people in concert. adam lambert with queen, lana del rey, MARINA, one direction, thirty seconds to mars are just a few examples! but they either only gave shows in montréal or toronto or they were so expensive like sir i had to choose between you and my tuition sorry. FOUR HOUR DRIVE JESUSSSS i complain and i live like 90 minutes away from montréal (but put the traffic and it’s like 3 hours just to get on the island) BUT OH MY GOD THATS FARRRR. wait england is tiny af if you can go through the whole thing in 8 hours. doing my entire province from top to bottom takes three time the amount of hours you need to drive to new york city like what hahaha. i do appreciate gaga’s reasonable pricing, though! i remember, when i was a huge huge huge fan of her during the fame/the fame monster era, her show tickets were half the price of some local country singer. and for the amount of songs she performs, costumes, dancers and all of that, she does make the most out of your ticket! THE BORN THIS WAY BALL WAS AN EXPERIENCE! i saw some videos of it on youtube and oh my god, it feels like you’re in some alternate dimension where gaga is our lord and savior and tbh, i stan.
i hope you can end up going too!!!!!!! my fingers are crossed for you!!!!! <3
OH MY GOD STOP I’M SO SORRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! okay no i’m so sorry this is awful! are you okay though???? have you recovered??????? i hope you’re as healthy as possible! <3
