Granted, I was never able to play the fan translation of AAI2, but the more I think about it, the more I kind of like the name Eustace Winner? Maybe because the first associations I have with the name is Eustace Clarence Scrubb rather than the old man from Courage the Cowardly Dog.

But like annoying asshole know-it-all kid who figures out he was kind of a dick and tries to do better? Sounds like a Eustace to me.

What do you think of the new fan names? Eustace Winner, Tabitha Lylod, Verity Gavelle, and Eddie Fender? To me, they are a mixed bag. I like Gavelle and Fender (Miss Raymond Shields) but Eustace Winner is a WTF name. What is he Courage the Cowardly Dog's owner? "What did I do"?

They've grown on me very quickly. I love Verity Gavèlle. So silly. Gavèlle. Eddie Fender sounds like the name of the player character for a guitar hero game, but I think it suits him! Uncle Ed. Tabitha Lloyd seems speculative? I know we know her surname is Lloyd, so that probably is the pun. Not bad, honestly.

I'm looking forward to finding out what Mr. Knight and Mr. Rook are called. And obviously we have Di-Jun Wang now official too, but that's just a direct transliteration.

I have a theory about Eustace.

Honestly, it's just stupid enough. Yeah, that boy sure is Eustace Winner.

I can't help but wonder how they're going to do his dialogue! From what I gather, in Japanese, it's to do with the way his surname either sounds like or can be read as "first rate", and in the fan translation, it's "best", but Winner just seems like it wouldn't lend itself as well to this kind of dialogue. Maybe we'll be treated to some Dual Destinies level subtlety...

In theory? I've actually come to love "Eustace Winner" as an AA character name. ...Minus the still incredibly boring and lazy spelling of "Winner". Again, change the spelling, make it "Wynnur", or something else along those lines, and it's great. The double pun of "Justice Winner" and "Useless Whiner" is perfect. It's really clever, I love it.

But in practice? I look at The Boy in question, and. That's Sebastian. It's Seb. He's Sebby. Sebby Debebby. Who's ""Eustace""

Alright I feel like my problem with the Eustace Winner name (Sebastian my boy I'm so sorry) is that he's a really major character with depth and development.

From the start AA has had really stupid pun names and I loved them. April May, Redd White? I thought those were the best when I was playing ace attorney for the first time.

But characters who were actually important -- Phoenix, Maya, Edgeworth, von Karma, I could be wrong but their names aren't as stupid of puns as Redd White or my beloved Detective Detective Detective (love you gumshoe). I mean, Wright is literally just a play on right, but it's not a phrase, like I feel Eustace Winner (Useless Winner?) Is supposed to be. And Phoenix is a reference to his nature, how he "rises from the ashes", it's about his general overall character and doesn't feel like a mean joke. To me, naming Sebastian Eustace Winner is like if Edgeworth was named Meenin Evil so you know he's a bad guy when you meet him.

Poor Sebastian though, he has a LOT that happens (I never finished aai2 actually but I want to give him a hug and a mug of hot chocolate), hes a very important character, and it feels like they gave him a side character name? When he has a lot more importance to the story than just one case
