boo hiss at the fact that i'm still masking for someone who is aware* (i get why it gave me glowing mousegirl but why GIRL. do i exhibit babygirl tendencies) but anyway why is it that the face from buckshot roulette doesn't wig me out but similar faces do... hmm
i guess it doesn't emulate my big "that's gonna get me in the night" fears and the game isn't scary (at least the way markiplier plays it, he's REALLY good) so who knows tbh.
my anxiety is too heightened for most horror games lately but i guess it's not really a horror game??? or, again, it's not with markiplier bc he's good. it's actually very grounding for me to play along. v fun.

So You Finished Disco Elysium and Don't Know What to Play Next
You may have seen my other games rec post (if not, there are a lot of recs there). But I have since played many more games that, if you love Disco as much as I do, you might also really enjoy! (Many of these are on sale for the Steam Winter Sale until 1/2/24, go check them out! Some are even as little as like 2 USD!)
A House of Many Doors
Tumblr media
This one was mentioned very briefly in my last rec post, but I think A House of Many Doors deserves more words dedicated to it. This game is set in The House, a strange dimension of huge rooms that pulls things and people from other worlds into it, trapping them forever. You play as one of the house's denizens, and you are on a mission to escape.
If you enjoyed the concept of The Pale in Disco, I think a lot of aspects of The House will appeal to you as well.
Norco
Tumblr media
Norco has been on my wishlist since I made the last post, but I finally got around to buying and playing it a few months ago. Norco is an RPG set in the oil town of Norco, Louisiana, and paints a beautiful and strange picture of the rural-industrial south. It contains heavy Christian themes and absolutely stunning pixel art. One of my favorite games I played this year.
Clickolding
Tumblr media
Cickolding is a very short horror game in which you play as a person getting paid to click a clicker while the man above watching. It's weird and highly sexually charged, though no actual sexual content occurs. I can't say too much about this but it is an experience, for sure.
The Pale Beyond
Tumblr media
In The Pale Beyond, you play as the first mate aboard The Temperance, which is bound for the Antarctic in search of a missing scientific vessel. Things, as you might expect, do not go according to plan. You must keep your crew alive, relatively healthy, and in good spirits.
This one's also a strong recommendation for fans of The Terror, for obvious reasons. (Side note: if animal death is a trigger for you, I'd recommend playing this with caution, or not at all.)
Inscryption
Tumblr media
Inscryption is the game that changed my mind about deckbuilders (I used to really not like them), which opened the door to my current addiction (Balatro. If you haven't bought it, don't. Your friends may never see you again).
Inscryption is a horror deckbuilder roguelike that is by the same creator as The Hex and Pony Island, both of which I also recommend. It's an incredibly fun game, and I recommend not looking into the plot too much because it's way more fun going into it as blind as possible.
Slay the Princess
Tumblr media
In Slay the Princess, you are the Hero. You must slay the princess. If you don't the world will end. That's all there is to it. Why would you do anything other than slay her, after all? You don't want the world to end, do you?
Slay the Princess is a time loop game where your choices affect the next loop -- I don't want to say too much on that because it's a fun thing to experience yourself.
80 Days
Tumblr media
Inspired by the Jules Verne novel, you play as Passepartout, valet to Phileas Fogg. Your employer has entered a bet to race around the world in 80 days. In this text-based adventure, it is your job to balance his budget and health, and to plan your route.
There are so many ways to make this journey, and enough different events that I'm far from having seen it all despite how many times over I've played it. Highlights for me include: falling in love with a man while we nearly died in the arctic, getting jailed in Russia for nearly a week because I made some poor choices, and abandoning our mission to become a jewel thief.
Other Games You Might Wanna Check Out
Jalopy, Overboard!, Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines, Yes Your Grace, Buckshot Roulette, A Date With Death, Fields of Mistria, Obscura, Tavern Talk, Killer Frequency, Not For Broadcast, The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante, Bastion

Idea for dt clover monster
1- 6 shooter, where the board gets split into 6 sections and you have to remember how the rounds were loaded into it
2- buckshot, where clover will shoot the board with a shotgun but the rounds fan out like the astral dreamer attack
3- lasso and lazer where the board is lined up with a double barrel shotgun and the soul is tied to the center having to avoid each shot from each barrel
4- clover will slowly move their talons in and you have to fire at them to keep them away
Beyond that I’m not sure, maybe they use their wings to block attacks?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
yall are way more creative than me with this kinda stuff AHDJSJCN but ill add my own thoughts!!
YELLOW ATTACKS; If you get hit with one of DT!Clover’s yellow attacks, your HP gets sucked out and used to heal DT!Clover instead (similar to Ceroba’s red attacks).
1) Six Shooter —> Russian Roulette: In a very similar vein, you watch a (yellow colored) round be loaded into a revolver; you have like half a second to react to a reticle being put on your soul before it’s fired and it’s either a live round (normal bullet attack) or a yellow round.
Tumblr media
2) Buckshot: Huge shotgun attacks that explodes into stars. The stars explode into SMALLER stars. Very bullet hell.
Tumblr media
3) Prey: Similar to Ed’s attack, you have to avoid Clover’s talons grabbing you; if caught, you are stuck in one place and aimed at by either feathers, stars, or revolver shots. Very difficult to move and avoid attacks if caught.
Tumblr media
4) Blackhole: Extending their wings, their inner wings turn into the void of space, sucking you to the top of the battle box. You must avoid swipes from their claws or shooting stars coming out of their wings.
Tumblr media
5) One Last Hurrah: Similar to Zenith Martlet’s attack where the screen goes huge and she flies towards you (idk the name lmao); Clover’s tail splits into four; they slam it into the battle box, yellow shards spraying. The main attack is DT!Clover’s SOUL charge up an attack and shoot towards you. They swat your bullets away with their tail, you can’t hurt them during this attack.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
EXTRA CHALLENGES: As the fight goes on, lighting surrounds attacks that have things to do with DT!Clover’s physical body; such as their talons or wings. Extra damage, and occasionally yellow! A lot of simpler attacks also overlap, like how Zenith Martlet has like 3 different attacks going on every round. Things like TNT explosions, gunpowder lines you have to avoid (or else it will explode), and gunshots that shatter the battle box into segments (so you’re stuck in one section unless you take damage to move through the cracks).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You would have to aim for DT!Clover’s soul with bullets to hurt them! No other spot would damage them; just their soul. idk how all this would work in an actually game but this was fun to theorize and think up >:]

Helloooo
I'm intrigued by the design of Dealer, but I don't know the universe or anything! Could you maybe link me to a post that explains? Or if there's a chronological story, link me to the start of it?
Thanks :)
so there's this fun little horror tabletop game by an estonian developer
Tumblr media
Buckshot Roulette is a computer game where you gamble with your life in hopes of killing the Dealer before they kill you, and walk away with loads of cash.
...that's it! that's all there is to it, it's a very short experience. not much of a story or explicit lore, besides some implied stuff and the ARG that hasn't gone anywhere in months. it's very cheap and short, you could probably get it and play it yourself!
that being said, despite being such a short game it's got a Very strong atmosphere to it, and that's basically what got me hooked onto it. i grew up in a decaying town full of ruins left behind by the soviet regime, so something about it all just... clicked and stuck with me, even before i found out the dev was from estonia.
...and then months later i got inexplicably obsessed with that man on the other side of the table so i just keep posting about him
everything i've made so far is derived from the base game and that sense of connection to it. the feeling of ever-present decay, the devices that never seem to break despite the growing rust, constructs that will never be allowed to truly die.
if you're asking whether the lore i expanded and twisted it all into has a post w/ explanation and timeline, there really isn't one. im just making things up on the spot depending on what the heart desires, so you're just better off scrolling through the backlog of drawings i made about it. there's a lot, at least for me

had a lot of fun watching cellbit play buckshot roulette last night and got a rare urge to draw! :D
no promises i’ll keep this up but i slept on it and still like it, so onto the tumblr it goes i guess. man that high score really was something huh. anyway link to a piece of lovely spiderbit fanart i used as reference for the hair bc we cite our sources in this house (and i can’t draw hair.) don’t ask me why the second picture is more yellow my lamp is just weird like that.
medium: mechanical pencil for class notes, regular pencil i found under the couch, and shitty eraser that doesn’t erase on two (2) pieces of lined filler paper taped together.

I should’ve said this earlier honestly, but your PMMM Buckshot Roulette is so so so so good, it made me want to check out the game (finally!) and WOW, I understand the picture a whole lot better. It’s also the artwork I discovered you with and it is beautiful *sobs*
Also, Sayaka cutely shocking Kyoko back to life is adorable (I love the background music too! It’s such a neat addition!)
Oh, hey, glad you checked out the game! Buckshot Roulette is truly innovative for its mechanics and gritty aesthetics, and the music is very compelling in any high-stakes scenario. I just thought it would be fun to have Homura in a crossover piece for once…so I’m happy that you like it, and not only that, but it seems to have reached others to give the game a chance too. Sayaka is also medic core or whatever so it’s only fair I include her in it that way. o_o
Thanks for the support and encouragement! 🙇‍♂️

I'll say it a million times, but I really like Quincy and wish to learn more about your OC and see them more in the future
blinks at you with my big ol' eyes. well you can learn more about Quincy now! because I am bonkers mcyonkers about em rn so FUN FACT TIME LETS GO
Quincy is..... you! Technically. They're a Y/N (wattpad style) situation. I wanted to have some sort of player character that people can insert themselves into, but of course, one character can't truly encompass everyone - in that case, I created their look and personality off of what would make sense in the environment of Buckshot Roulette. They frequent the nightclub, they're an adrenaline junkie, they're sometimes cocky, and they just don't know how to stay dead - and for the low low price of absolutely free, you too can imagine yourself in their shoes and live out the dream of being servalicious and gambling your life with swag
On the topic of Y/Ns, the name Quincy isn't their real name. Their real name is left unknown (of course allowing for self insert purposes), and the name Quincy comes from the fact that they just frequent the nightclub. Frequent -> -quent -> quint -> Quincy
They know how to skateboard. Why? Because it's cool
Yes, Quincy was developed from the player character in my buckshot top surgery post. Their AGAB is still gonna be vague, though. tits out for everyone godbless
It's currently in the works, but the general backstory as to how they learned about the game is through the staff - specifically, the Bartender (another oc I barely have developed). Why were they chosen to be told the game to? Well, I can't just spill everything yet :]
that's all I got rn! I don't have a lot of energy rn but I'll post Quincy whenever I get a good amount doodled. plus the almost 3.5k word fic that I'm still writing that also gives the reason why they don't have a fucking shirt on but alas I am dragging my feet but I'll say when it's finished

I would say that I'm good at it, I think? I've always just really liked strategy games though, but I'll admit that it can be difficult. Sometimes the game is totally just luck, so one way or another, you're gonna get what's coming to ya

Salazar/Sally MK11 KONCEPT:
Bio: Expert markswoman and self made orphan, Sally “Salazar” Rider earned Kano’s attention after taking down some of his goons because they took one of her targets. Kano gave her an offer, more money than home would offer, and double the fun. Now working for the most dangerous criminal in earthrealm, Sally keeps her guns loaded and eyes locked on the next payday.
Skins:
Fast Gun: Her default outfit. A leather jacket over a practical BD vest. Has some southern fashion, but this is her in BD mode.
Family Fortunes: A more fancy outfit, but still practical enough to keep her guns hidden. Has a family logo.
In the fray: A dressed down version of 'Fast Gun' Her biceps are exposed, with a bulletproof vest under her shirt.
Little Orphan Sally: The outfit Sally wore to her parent's funeral. A formal skirt. If you look closely, you'll see some blood on the handkerchief in her pocket.
Normals: (Lots of pistol whips., she has a move with short range gunshots)
Base special moves:
Sally is a woman of many talents, primarily relating to firearms. She can switch between a pair of handguns and a shotgun, but never all at once. Each ‘stance’ has limited ammo before reloading. If out of ammo for both guns, her throw is changed to incorporate a small pocket knife.
(Handguns: Seven bullets each.) (Shotgun: Six bullets.)
Firing off: Salazar grabs the opponent by the neck and fire a shot in their stomach before kicking them down. Amplify for three more shots. (Handgun stance.) if out of ammo, she’ll pistol whip the opponent instead.
Buckshot: Salazar shoves the end of her shotgun against the opponent’s nose, knocking them down. Amplify for her to twirl it around and fire point blank. If the shotgun is out of ammo, she’ll smack them with it like a baseball bat. (shotgun stance.)
High shot: Sally fires upwards, catching airborne opponents. Amplify for a pop up:
Boom: Sally tosses a grenade in an arc. Amplify as it’s thrown for her to shoot it, causing an explosion that bounces the opponent if they’re in range.
Kustom special moves:
Gun spin: Salazar pulls out her gun and twirls it around. Depending on when you release the button, she shoots either upwards, downward, or straight forward.
Connections: Sally whistles and a sniper from offscreen fires at the opponent. Can be delayed.
Old trick: Sally takes off her hat and bows. If the opponent hits her, she dodges and smacks them away. Amplify for a gun shot.
Fatal blow:
Gun-Show: Sally smash the opponent twice with her handguns before firing a twin shot two their opponent’s gut (SLO MO 1) she pockets her guns and takes out her shotgun, ramming the stock into their nose (SLO MO 2) Finally, as the opponent falls on their back, she points the barrel at their face, smirking. She pulls the trigger and fires. (SLO MO 3)
Fatalities:
Long distance: Sally drops a smoke bomb and disappears. The opponent looks around, finding her nowhere to be seen. Then, from out of nowhere, a bullet shoots through their chest. The camera pans away go reveal Sally with a sniper rifle, the crosshairs pointed right at their head. She pulls the trigger, and you get a nice shot of their head exploding through the scope.
Cowgirl roulette: Sally pulls out an old fashioned revolver and spins the chamber two times. She pulls the trigger, but nothing comes out. The opponent breathes a sigh of relief before Sally spins again, and fires a bullet into their throat. There’s a POV shot of the opponent as Sally crouches down with a finger to her lips, as if asking them to die quietly.
Intro animations:
Contract Killer: Sally walks in with a phone to her ear. “Understood, double the pay, half the time.”
Good Girl: A horse rides into frame, the camera pans up to show Sally on her back. She steps off as she talks.
High Noon: A tumbleweed rolls along the ground, leading to show Sally cleaning one of her guns.
Mama’s favourite: Bullets are loaded into a golden revolver, before it’s twirled around and stuffed into a holster.
Outro animations:
Bounty collected: Sally scoops up the opponent, tying their legs and arms up. She then hops onto her horse and she rides off while dragging the opponent across the ground.
A day’s work: Sally tips her hat and walks off. The scene fades to show her sitting at a BD tavern with her hat covering her face. The camera cuts close to her face as she lightly tilts it up, orange light coming from her cigar.
Love the thrill: Sally stretches out with a pleased sigh. “Oh, I love this job.” She turns away, walking into the sunset.
Good ol’ days: Sally pulls out a picture of her family, smiling softly. “Love you, ma.” Slowdown of her blocking out her younger self’s face.
Idle animations:
She stretches out.
She taps her boot against the back of her other.
Intro dialogue:
Vs Kano:
Salazar: What’s the occasion?
Kano: Now that we’ve got Erron back, I’m wondering if you’re worth it.
Salazar: *Chuckle* Oh, now you’ve done it.
Vs Cassie:
Salazar: Cute toys, little girl.
Cassie: That’s a funny way to refer to a deadly weapon.
Salazar: Only if you know how to use’ em.
Cassie, in an impression of Sally’s accent: Howdy, Miss.
Salazar: Knock it off.
Cassie: Someone’s testy…
Vs Tasia:
Sally: Quit stealing my kills.
Tasia: It’s not my fault you’re a slow shooter.
Sally: Allow me to prove you wrong.
Vs Erron:
Sally: This town ain't big enough for the two of us...
Erron: Askin' for a standoff?
Sally: Count of three.
Vs Kitana:
Sally: I'm an heiress too, you know.
Kitana: That doesn't make us equals.
Sally: Yeah, cause I'm no pampered princess.
Mid fight quotes:
“Watch yourself.”
“Is that it?”
"Run on home."

An introduction is perhaps necessary, I'm Hikaye and as a child I was forbidden from playing video games. Of course I disobeyed but my forays in the gaming world were bite and run, mostly a farming web game and some time spent on an old secret Nintendo DS with a cracked cartridge with the 12 dancing princess platform games and some other random ones. When I went to uni I got minecraft and then made a steam account and got the Sims 4, CKIII, TW:Warhammer and played them for a lot, a lot of hours just simply dicking around and having fun.
So I decided to just, learn how to game and so, having never touched an action game i got Dark Souls and bought my first controller. I figured that if I was to start I may have as well gotten gud from the start.
As time goes on I'll add more to the list, hoping to find good titles along the way:

Shadow's 2024 Games List
idk i thought this would be a cool thing i could do where i go through all the games that i played for the first time in <current year> (side note: i would have put this up last year but there was a latecomer so i delayed it a couple days). It wont include *every* game i played for the first time this year, just games that i started playing this year and played a somewhat decent amount of (not necessarily finished), and going through them all and what I liked and/or didn't like about them. Also a lot of these will be older games, not necessarily games that *released* this year since that would bring the total down to 3.
Also this contains spoilers for basically all the games I played, but I will mention some games specifically in case people haven't played them and wish to, since they may be better going in blind:
Superhot trilogy (Minor stuff from the ending of the third game) Inscryption (Go into this one blind, trust me) I'm sticking a keep reading cut in there. Seriously, go play Inscryption if you haven't already.
So, in a particular order (the order i got them in mostly):
Turnip Boy Robs a Bank
Having played the first game turnip boy commits tax evasion relatively close to launch, I was following the development of this one quite closely, getting to try out the demo, and then getting the game day 1 (in fact this is the only game I have ever purchased day 1), and had a blast. It's a relatively short game, I 100%ed it for the first time in around 11 hours, there is some potential replay value though I cannot deny there is less than other roguelites. The main layout is not random, however some item placement is, and the elevator rooms are random. Still, I had a lot of fun with it, and I can also confidently say I am the only player to ever legitimately reach 1B cash in the game which is something normal to want to achieve.
Lethal Company
Didn't try this one out until about 3 months after release, but was playing it very regularly once I did. Still pick it up every update or so for a few days, the reason I don't play it more is because its a very multiplayer-centric game and requires me to have friends online to play (yes I am aware it can be played solo but its not as fun that way). Very much enjoyed this one, and am eager to see where the developer goes with future updates
Celeste
Playing this gave me a sudden urge to put on a skirt. I'm sure its nothing
Superliminal
Messing around with perspective to solve puzzles, I really enjoyed this one. Puzzle mechanics were very intuitive, and I believe this was the mechanic that would have been used in a canned sequel to portal. It isn't in the portal/hl universe obviously, but I did still have a good time with it
Manifold Garden
Absolutely stunning visuals, it feels more like an art piece made into a videogame and- *searches something up* oh wait it was. Really enjoyed this one, definitely worth giving it a go if you haven't yet
The Pedestrian
Puzzle game involving moving a character across street signs, and the puzzles themselves are good as well. It's the first game on this list I haven't actually finished yet (not 100%ed, that would go to celeste since I have basically just climbed the mountain on that), but what I have played I have thoroughly enjoyed.
Buckshot Roulette
This one was a lot of fun i love gambling. Multiplayer was a great addition but I *wish* the developers let you use it on the itch.io version, but still I'm happy that it exists at all. It's a good game to just pick up and play a round or two for.
Dead Cells
Had a lot of fun with this one, haven't beat it yet but I have played a lot, reached the final boss (I think) once but died to them. It's a great one for my steam deck as its something I can just pick up for a run or two while I'm waiting for something.
Superhot Trilogy
So I first picked up Superhot VR for the PSVR in a cex, since I'd heard about it in passing (well, Superhot as a franchise) and the points on the back of the box sold me enough to drop £8 on this second hand copy. Insanely fun. Best of all three of them, It feels like the concept of the game was made specifically for VR. If you have any VR headset that has the option to buy it, definitely buy it. One of the best games I picked up this year.
After beating and enjoying Superhot VR, I noticed the bundle of the two non-VR games (I believe the first and third in release order) on GOG was on sale, and, well, I enjoyed the VR game so I thought I'd pick up the bundle. The original Superhot was enjoyable, basically the VR game but not in VR and you can move about (Well you could move in the VR game but only as much as you had physical space). Had my fun with that, and then moved onto the third game.
Superhot: Mind Control Delete starts off strong but near the end I was struggling to get through it. A roguelite Superhot? Marketed as more Superhot? Why wouldn't I like it, having liked the first two? Well, I did like it, to begin with. The hacks were a neat mechanic, giving you special abilities, and the health was nice, somewhat counteracting the fact that unlike the other games, you can't "learn" each level, since enemy spawns are procedural (In the first two it was partially a puzzle game in the sense that you needed to work out how to defeat the same set of enemies spawning in the same locations each retry). Cores were interesting, but I mostly avoided them. The whole gimmick of roguelite Superhot was starting to wear a bit halfway through. And then the unkillable enemies started showing up. Basically, the three cores you unlock (you start with one that gives an extra HP for a total of three) all have an unkillable enemy associated with them, and later levels will always have one of these (not related to the core equipped, so you cannot avoid them by only using the default core). You cannot kill them, you must avoid them, and the most annoying one can teleport into you. I was so glad when I found out you can give up the cores to stop them spawning, but that is basically at the end of the game. The ending itself.... you have to wait two and a half hours. With the game running. It does not save your wait time progress.
SH:MCD starts off alright but really isn't that fun later on.
Inscryption
Well, back to games i thoroughly enjoyed. Inscryption is a game that you should go into completely blind. You saw the spoiler warning at the top, right? Go play it if you haven't already. I'm serious. You can read my review later. Go play it then come back. Now, where should I start...
I love this game. A lot. All I knew about it going in was two offhanded mentions in a Pyrocynical video, where he says the ourobouros card can be buffed to like 10k if you waste enough time on it, and also the game looks at your files (if you know of Pyrocynical, you'll be able to guess why he brought that up), the latter of which I forgot about until the moment happened. Also a bundle on steam it had with Buckshot Roulette called "basically the same game". I did not buy that bundle, instead I bought it with a coupon code from the GOG newsletter that, upon looking at SteamDB and GogDB, would put the game down to an even lower price than anyone else would get (seriously do not sleep on GOG's newsletter, it gives out free games and coupons on some pretty decent games, I got Shotgun King: The Last Checkmate on a discount from there last year), and since I knew it was kinda similar to buckshot roulette, I bit the bullet and bought the game.
Started out with Leshy's Act I. I died a lot but had a lot of fun, solving most of the puzzles (on my first playthrough I didn't unlock the ring, nor the bee statue to replace squirrels), and beating the moon on the first attempt that I actually got that far on (so it wasn't until later I found out that you get a champion card on the door instead of a deathcard when you win, also I didn't encounter any death card nodes despite dying enough to. I do kind of wish I beat the moon once before getting the film roll to experience that, but still), and then got confused for 3 minutes after picking up the new game button, not realising I had to actually exit out and start a new game.
Act II was slightly disappointing at first, but it definitely grew on me, and I have replayed it standalone a handful of times with some challenges (e.g. 4 runs where I only use one class of cards, and a run where I use every card I acquire in a run since the only requirement is at least 20 cards, and there didn't appear to be an upper limit. The answer is yes, it's possible, but *very* RNG heavy).
I did enjoy Act III, I wish a few more of the mechanics were brought over to Kaycee's Mod (more on that later, also I do wish there was an option to do an act 3 kaycee's mod run but I do get why that's not there in the vanilla game for lore reasons. I'll get to mods later), but it is a decent act and I like Lonely Wizbot and the fisherman. The Archivist boss fight was fun cause i gave it Daily TV #69 which it put on as a face, and then /dev/core from my pc which was 128TiB. I wish Golly had the ability to interface with GOG Galaxy like it does with Steam to show friends there, but still a good concept.
The Finale was.... certainly interesting. Saying goodbye to all the scrybes, Grimora's interesting concept of the chessboard, Leshy's "One more game" (I did shed a tear when he insisted we kept playing and didn't need to keep score), and Magnificus' "All style no substance" battle (seriously is there anyone who has tried to win at that? I cannot find a single result online for that). All culminating with finding the OLD_DATA and then the final video... and Magnificus' act 2 theme is perfect for credits music.
Kaycee's Mod is great, Basically Act I but with a few mechanics removed (I do miss deathcards but yeah, balancing, same with ouroborous not keeping stat bonuses between runs and some unlocks like the bee statue, squirrel totem, dagger, boons before the final fight, etc., though I wish there were more escape-roomy stuff like act 1 had). Loved (most of) the challenges, Royal's boss fight is a fun alternative if you are bored of the moon (boss totems make no changes since none of Royal's cards have tribes)
Overall I would easily say this is one of the best games I played [for the first time] this year.
Webfishing
Imagine club penguin but instead of a whole island you can only go fishing and you don't get banned for saying fuck. Also gay as hell (positive). It's great, you can, if you want, never use online and exclusively play a singleplayer (or coop with friends only) fishing game where you collect a lot of fish, alternatively you could only use it as an online chatroom, or some mix of fishing and chatting, anything's possible. Good fun, better with friends imo but I like multiplayer with friends if I can. Also you can get drunk.
Balatro
The latecomer I mentioned in the first paragraph (feels like a while ago, I don't know how long it takes to read all this but I started making this post like 2 months ago), I got this one as a gift on christmas (well, a day or two after but it was a christmas present). This one has been a blast, this combined with inscryption being some of the most fun games I played this year is leading me to probably check out some more roguelike deckbuilders next year (well this year since this is going up on jan 1st). It is a very popular recent release so you may have heard about it, but the general gist of the game is you play poker hands to score points, and you get jokers which have effects to increase your score and you progress through the rounds. There's other mechanics that can add or remove or modify cards in your deck (adding 3 new poker hands being five of a kind, flush house (combo of flush and full house), and flush 5 (being 5 of a kind and a flush)). Very fun game and a perfect one for steam deck where I mostly pick games up to play a few rounds of something at a time. Also I found a tool to create an apk from a steam install to play on phone which is neat.
So that was my wrap-up of games this year, overall positive, see you again next year when I do the same thing (hopefully I get enough new games...)

DevLog 03: You… Are Late.
This month's post has been hella delayed… life got in the way and I really hadn't opened either of my writing programs like, at all. Kinda sucks, but--as they say, better late than never, right?
While hectic, I made a huge leap forward in progress, so here's to the jumps made so far, and to many more!
Neocities has been pretty slow. I got a bit stuck on flex boxes and decided to put it aside for the time being, until I feel more confident that the information has cooked long enough in my brain and I can jump back in and absorb the syntax required more readily. I did manage to make some writing progress elsewhere, though, and I've been plunking away at the site for my friend's use; it's also slow-going, as my focus is centralized on blender, but any progress is good progress and I felt it important to mention.
The real kicker has been the fact I FINALLY got a hold of how the fuck blender handles things like parenting, and figuring out how best to make use of topology to weight more smoothly.
In other words--I've become some kind of cracked rigging wizard, and I've only accelerated from there. Figuring out curves and hook modifiers has been a gamechanger for organic forms, and I've whipped through completely meshing and rigging some THREE SEPARATE PROJECTS in the span of a month. That is absolutely insane to me!
I did lose power while working and lose a bunch of progress, because of course blender's autosave feature gonks when you restart your PC… but whatever, I'm planning to tackle the problem in a new way later during the course of December. It's good practice to further hone my work anyway, and I honestly have a lot of fun doing this stuff now that I understand it better.
In other terms, stuff has been pretty slow… I'm sitting around waiting for a Warframe update to drop, and kind of tinkering around with looking for some reminder software--or learning bash and writing the damn program myself, as nothing has really been satisfying! I actually got the idea from a discord bot, which reminds me of another thing I've been rolling around, at least in concept.
I got my hands on Buckshot Roulette recently, and I absolutely love it to death (ha!). It's a really fun game, and I've really enjoyed the challenge and chance of it, though my memory struggles to keep up with it. I've actually come up with a logging system for rounds, that way I can keep closer track of what's going on during a given gameplay loop.
Usually I'll start with writing out the initial shell counts--2L3B, for example, to mean 'two live, three blank'. Then I note top-downward which shells are used as the round progresses, and add in any additional notes to the side, such as 4SB via the burner phone, or a little arrow indicating that a shell polarity was flipped (though that's obviously only applicable in Double-Or-Nothing mode). It's been great to be able to remember what's going on and enjoy the game to its fullest!
Which is what inspired me to look into writing a text form of the basic gameplay loop, allowing for two people to play on the same machine--the game's current multiplayer only allows for online connection, which is GREAT, but feels a bit of a loss when I want to play with, say, Axon. I debated doing something like a discord or revolt bot, which… why not both, but the problem thus arises when I get into server costs and hosting and so forth. Maybe someday, when I have more disposable income and the patience to do that. Not today, though.
Anyhow--I think I'll try to remember to share some of my blender work here on tumblr, though if you want to see it, you can also swing by my bluesky and check out progress shots and more of my yapping, hah. Next you see me, I might have FINALLY finished this avatar work for myself… so the next post might include selfies!
