list of scenarios \ ✧ / accepting          @benevolentgodloki sent: heal
She didn’t know the name of the ship dwarfing the Statesman, but it was easily one of the largest ships Carol had ever come across. She’d picked up the frantic distress call on her way to another world, and had hurriedly changed course in hopes of helping. Ordinarily she would have destroyed the assaulting vessel, but the stillness of the situation struck her, and the battle had already been lost. The Statesman had been sundered into two pieces, with a field of debris floating around it.
Carol dreaded to think of what it was like on board, and the reality of the situation was so much worse. The halls were littered with bodies, soldiers and civilians alike. The Asgardians had been slaughtered. She slunk forward, following distant voices until she came upon what must have been the command deck.
It was in shambles, dead everywhere, and the only people standing were a collection of the most unpleasant looking individuals this side of the sector. One in particular made her scowl, he seemed to like to hear himself speak, and bowed before the one he called Thanos and offered—
The Tesseract.
Carol could have sworn her heart stopped. She almost blasted out of hiding then, but paused when another spoke. Someone else who struck her as loving his own voice, but at least he didn’t have the whole obsessed cult follower vibe. His name was Loki apparently, and Carol just caught the dagger materialising in his hand when he attacked.
He failed, Thanos caught him by the neck and—
Time to fight.
A brilliant, golden gleam washed over Carol as she blasted forward, slamming herself into Thanos and sending the room into chaos. She spun around Thanos, and put herself purposefully between him and Loki, and did not hesitate to smash her shimmering fist into the Mad Titan’s face, sending him to the ground. She grabbed hold of the gauntlet, prying at the blue gem. She didn’t know what the hell the purple one was, but the blue—she couldn’t let him have the blue—
Somehow, the sound of the Tesseract plinking out of the slot was the loudest in the cosmos. Carol held it in her grasp for a second, before a blast of indigo sent her careening backwards. It was rare that something managed to break through her barrier and hurt her. She grunted, rising her to feet, glow radiating once more from her when a fist, surging with the same abrasive power, crashed into her chest. Her light flickered as air was forced from her lungs—
On the third hit, that terrible power Thanos commanded shattered what was left of her invulnerability and every nerve in her body felt like it was on fire. She tasted blood.
"Right,” she wheezed, leaning against a wall. She glanced around. Loki must have been trying to fight the rest. The woman with a spear, she’d subdued him. She held its point to his head. Carol looked back at Thanos. “Guess I should have gone for the purple one.”
“Humour,” Thanos noted, rising up to his full height. “A rarity amongst the Kree.”
Breathless, she smirked, “I’ve been disappointing them for years.”
She couldn’t reach the other who’d been bound this whole time, there were too many of Thanos’ goons between her and him. She could maybe reach Loki.
“No doubt,” Thanos said, the briefest of condescending smiles crossing his face. It vanished when he next spoke; “but your interference will amount to nothing but wasted time. Give me the stone.”
Tumblr media
She scoffed, “no.”
A photon blast surged from her to the woman holding Loki hostage, skimming past Loki’s ear to strike his captor in the face. Carol felt that same terrible energy crash into her again, searing her back and spreading like liquid fire into every fibre of her being. She threw the stone towards Loki, and...
And nothing. She fell into darkness and presumed she’d died.
Carol's eyes flew open, the world was a mess of blurry imagery and harsh light, none of it making sense. She saw a figure, a shadow, and grabbed hold of it, other hand coiling into a seething fist as she prepared to strike. She became aware of two things at the moment. The first was the voice of whoever she had a hold of was familiar, though everything was too much a haze to properly hear what they were saying. And the second was the fact she was trembling.
Everything hurt and she was exhausted.
“You’re not… where… am I?” she murmured.

You’re not him Chapter 1
" Hey Casey, how're you doing?" you walk in and ask the receptionist.
"Hi L/n, nothing much, just  reporting in some standard violations nothing more." Casey replies in his enthusiastic way.
"Nice, where's Hunt?"
" Oh, she's just patrolling, Mobius is in court, and he asked me to hand you all your assignments for the week" he replies, handing you a file.
"Thanks Casey, go on, I'll see you at lunch." you say walking towards your office.
Loki's pov
( The dialogues are not correct, cuz I'm writing out of memory)
"What is this? This never even happened, more lies, tricks." Loki shouts at Mobius.
"Not yet, not to you" Mobius replies, fast forwarding to where Loki and Frigga are talking.
" Then am I not  your mother" Frigga asks
Breath shuddering, Loki says, "You are not."
Tears filling her eyes, she then chuckles humorlessly, " You're so perceptive about everyone but yourself."
Mobius continues, " And then the dark elves attack Asgard and you think you lead them to Thor, but instead you lead them to.."
He fast forward to Frigga, being stabbed by a dark elf as Loki watches on in horror, tears forming in his eyes.
"W-Where do you have her, where is she?"
"You lead 'em right to her." Mobius softly says.
"No! Yo-you're lying! It's not true!" Loki accuses.
They argue back and forth until Hunter B-15 came in and asked to talk to Mobius.
And during that time, Loki like the mischievous scamp he is, escapes.
~~
After completing a few of your assignments, you decided to head to the cafeteria and have some lunch. They did have some bomb salads.
On the way there, you suddenly saw a glimpse of blue that looked a lot like the tesseract from the corner of your eye. Turning to your right, you saw nothing. Putting it down to your imagination, you sighed and walked on when you bumped head-first into Hunter B-16, a good friend of yours.
"Hey Hunt! Where have you been?" you asked smiling
"Hi Y/n sorry can't talk, there's a rogue variant in the premises and I have to look for him!" She replied hurriedly.
"Oh! Well let me help you, who is it?" you replied suddenly becoming serious.
Hunter hesitated to speak.
"Ask Mobius Y/n, he'll explain everything."  she said before running down the hallway.
Confused, you headed down the hallway, but not before spotting a mop of very familiar raven hair heading towards Mobius's office.
Eye's widening you chased after the guy only to run into Casey and  couple of other agents.
"Wha-Casey! What happened? Why the hell is everyone rushing around?" you asked him.
"I don't know Y/n, there was this guy who came and threatened to turn me into a fish or something and he took that blue cube thing and ran away!"
" Blue cube thing-blue cube thing? Wait you mean the tesseract?" you urgently enquired.
"Yes! That's what the thing is called!" he says
" Oh my god." you say and start running towards Mobius's office, where you met Mobius outside.
" Mobius what's happening?" you ask him.
______
Loki was in Mobius's office, just managing to escape the agents when he saw it again, the view of his mother, cold and dead, because of him.
Shuffling in his seat, he reached forward and pressed the 'fast-forward button'.
The projector skipped to Odin, talking with him and Thor.
"I love you my sons" Odin said before disintegrating into a pile of stardust that floated above to the heavens.
Click.
Now it was Thor,
"Loki, I thought the world of you." Thor said," I thought we were going to fight side-by-side together."
The scene cut to the brothers, along with the hulk and a woman in a Valkyrie suit. There was another woman with (h/c) hair, who was walking close to Loki, her face wasn't clear, but he could see she was close to him.
Click.
Now it was focused on the woman, he couldn't see her face, she was turned away from him, again all he could see was her mop of hair. She seemed to be talking to future-him.
Loki, promise me you'll stay alive, don't be stupid." she said to him
"Darling, we both know there's nothing to worry about, Thor and Valkyrie have a plan, we're not going to die, and who knows? Maybe after this we can go back to Earth, you have missed your family."
"Loki, I'm looking out for you here ok? Please stay alive. I don't what I'd do without you, you're way to important to me...and to Thor."
"Love, don't worry" he said kissing her forehead gently as if calming her down.
" Don't be stupid, and yes, we will mostly be going there and I'm looking forward to having a cheeseburger so don't ruin it for me by dying!"
"Ok, I won't die." He said
"Promise"
"I promise I won't die" he said chuckling softly.
Loki couldn't believe it, after all this time, all his failed relationships, he found someone to love, someone who loved him back and he started crying, this time tears of happiness.
That all changed the moment he clicked again,
This time he was being choked, choked by the Titan who appeared in his nightmares, the reason he was in this mess.
The entire time, he could also hear the girl's heart-wrenching screams.
" You..w-will never....be ...a-a.......God..." Future him choked out blood streaming out if his ears and eyes, face a chalky white, all while Loki looked on in horror.
CRACK! Came that vomit-inducing sound, causing him to turn away.
Turning back he saw Thor and the girl crying onto his chest.
The girl was screaming and sobbing her poor heart out and Loki's heart broke for her.
The ship exploded and the file came to an end.
Loki sat there, too shocked to do anything, after everything was finally going good he died.
He then started laughing humorlessly.
Glorious Purpose indeed.
~~
"Mobius what's going on?" you ask urgently to the man who was looking a little worried.
"Y/n I'm going to need you to stay here, you know the person inside, and you can see him, after I talk to him." he said looking guilty. He knew how much Loki meant to you and he felt really bad for what he going to do, but he needed the variant's help.
"But who is he Mobius?" you ask him, eyes wide and breathing heavy.
"Y/n, I'll call you in five minutes." he said, walking swiftly inside and locking the door immediately so you couldn't come inside.
"Wait the doors locked- what the hell Mobius!" you shout and start to work on picking the lock.
~~
" I can't offer you redemption, but I can offer you a chance, there's a rogue variant killing all our minutemen." Mobius said.
" And you need the God of Mischief's help to catch him. Why?"
" Because the variant is you."
At that exact moment you managed to pick the lock and deciding to be a dramatic bitch, you kicked the doors open
and that's when you saw him.
Your eyes widened and your mouth dropped in shock, you were expecting it but it still didn't make it any less surprising.
God, he looked good, and he also looked younger, meaning....this was him from 2012, the guy who escaped.
And that meant-
" Who are you?" he asked.
Oh shit

Loki-Character Analysis (and Rant lol)
Idk if anyone will see this and I frankly don't care too much, just kind of ranting and venting. (for context I am not necessarily in the healthiest head space as of now so my emotions could be more extreme than they normally would be)
Loki's death is really hitting hard for me again. The fact he went from a mischievous kid who just wanted his father's recognition, to sabotaging his brother's coronation to lead up to defeating the Jotuns for his father and proving himself worthy as Thor, in the process finding out his life was a lie and that he himself was a Jotun who was abandoned, to giving up his life only to be found by Thanos to be threatened and manipulated (idc what anyone says, Loki was definitely tortured during his time with Thanos. How else could you explain how sickly and gaunt he looked when he first showed up in Avengers?) to losing his mother and protecting a mere mortal just because his brother cared for her, also willing to sacrifice himself for her and his brother, to finally having a period of success, only to witness his father die, see his home destroyed, and then ultimately get killed by Thanos as he tried to kill him to protect Thor.
He had an arc. He grew. And then he died. While we will get Loki in the new Disney+ series, he will never be the same Loki unless they find a way to implant the experiences of the prime Loki into this one. While I have no doubt he will be shown key points of his alter variant self's life, seeing them from an outer perspective cannot substitute for the experiences themselves.
Loki was such a complicated character who, while sometimes seeming inconsistent, was consistently inconsistent within the nature of his chaotic and mischievous character. He cared. He wanted recognition and to be viewed as equal to his brother. Along the way he got lost and found and twisted even more. Notice how in Thor 1, he never killed anyone other than Jotuns. While he did endanger other humans, he never killed them despite being easily able to do so with the destroyer automaton. And when it came to his brother, he had the perfect chance to blast him, but resorted to a backhand; and while that could have proven to be fatal, when it came down to it, Loki couldn't bring himself to do it the easy way. Deep down he still wanted to be on equal terms. That's why when Thor returned to Asgard, Loki kept instigating Thor, trying to rile him up so he would fight him. He ended up resorting to threatening harm upon Jane just to get his brother to treat him as equal and a worthy opponent. He denied familial connection to Odin and Thor, trying to convince himself that the reason he will never be viewed as equal with Thor is that he is a Jotun, the "monster parents tell their children about". In the end, when Odin still wouldn't show any more sympathy to Loki or try to reason with him, instead just telling him "no", Loki gave up. He was willing to accept whatever happened to him when he let go and he fell into the collapsing portal of the bifrost.
Cut to the first avengers, he is clearly very changed. He's sickly, gaunt, and weakened, needing support just getting onto the back of the truck for Clint Barton to drive him away on. His eyes are sunken in, he's greasy and slow, and borderline sociopathic. He clearly experienced something that turned him into this. We already know the scepter influenced his mind and that Thanos threatened him eternal suffering that would make pain look sweet if he didn't get the tesseract. But I steadfast refuse any statement someone could give me saying he wasn't tortured or manipulated by Thanos or his followers. Loki quickly goes in for the attack when he arrives on Earth, killing without hesitation or regret. When Thor confronts him on Stark tower, for even just the most fleeting second, he pauses. He knows what he's done and that he's gone too far. Even when he doesn't back down, he doesn't try to kill Thor. He simply, or, well, "simply" stabs him and runs off knowing very well it would take much more than that to kill his brother.
When he is brought to Asgard for imprisonment, his pride and guilt eat away at him. He refuses to acknowledge what he did as wrong to anyone, but he is very well aware of his actions the weight of them. The person who affects him the most being his mother, the one who always showed love for him and Thor equally. He tries to hide this knowledge, denying her being his mother as well since he is of Jotun blood, but he cares for her greatly still and can't help but feel guilty for how she sees him now. He still strives for chaos and when the Dark Elves invade, he mischievously points them in the direction of the throne room, not knowing their full capabilities, but living for the potential chaos to ensue. Of course this leads to his dear mother being killed. Loki is furious, broken, and lost. His actions have gone too far, causing the woman he loved the most and felt loved him more than anyone else to die. Thor can easily see through his illusions proving that Loki has shown his adoration for Frigga enough that even Thor knows of it. When they finally get to the Dark World, Loki tries getting under Thor's skin again, but also in an attempt to understand him. He prods at Thor's feelings for Jane and reminds him that her life is but a brief moment in their own lifetimes. They bicker and scuffle on the ride to their destination, but it is ultimately resolved by Loki's declaration that Thor can trust his rage, his rage at Frigga's death. When there, we see Jane in direct danger twice. Both times, Loki throws himself in harms way to protect her, seeing her both as vulnerable but also something that Thor cares for. Loki then proceeds to save his brother's life, being willing to sacrifice his own for him as well. Knowing his wound is not fatal, but also being fully aware of his skills in trickery and illusions, not only does Loki trick Thor into believing he is dead, but he also takes the opportunity to try to relieve his conscience; he apologizes. He then follows it up by saying that he didn't do what he did to make Odin proud or acknowledge him, not this time. He did it for the one who truly cared for him and showed it, Frigga. This gave Loki the opportunity to discreetly get back to Asgard and exile Odin and take his place. Now, Loki got the respect and adoration he felt he deserved. But it would only last for so long.
When Thor gets wind of Loki's antics, they both find themselves eventually facing down Odin and him passing away, but not before telling them that he's proud of them and loves them. Even Loki tears up here. He feels somewhat that it's his fault for Odin's passing, but he also feels empty after finally hearing Odin give him what he thought he always wanted. Hela arrives and Loki tries to reason with her; perhaps thinking he can relate to her and handle the situation. Unfortunately, Loki and Thor get separated for a while, eventually reuniting, but on opposite ends of the social class on Sakaar. Loki could easily continue to bask in his new status over Thor, but still decides to help him when h found him in the waiting area for the fighters (even though he eventually tried to betray him later when he realized he could regain what status he had and that he viewed escape futile and pointless with Hela still around). In the end, despite him having the chance to escape and run off, he returns to Asgard to help fight. He even proves key in defeating Hela as he revives Surtur, also grabbing the tesseract on the way. He doesn't hide. He doesn't show bitterness. He returns to the ship alongside his brother. (despite how much Waititi gave a middle finger to the writing and characterization of the characters, I am still trying my best to piece good Loki moments from Thor Ragnarok and fit it into Loki’s personality given that Ragnarok is considered MCU canon).
Thanos attacks. He has Thor in a precarious situation, threatening to kill him if Loki doesn't give him the tesseract. Loki tries to hold out as long as possible, knowing the consequences of giving it to the mad titan, but eventually yields when he sees no other way to save his brother; after giving it to Thanos, he immediately goes to Thor's side to protect him. When Thanos took down Hulk, Loki realizes the only chance they have to get out of there alive is to use his trickery. He proclaims himself Loki, prince of Asgard and, most impressively, Odinson. He accepts who he is. He acknowledges he is the rightful heir to Jotunheim, but he also knows that, even if not by blood, he is Thor's brother, and Odin and Frigga's son. Unfortunately, he rushes to action quite recklessly, potentially undermining the power Thanos has already with even just the two infinity stones he as acquired. Loki is killed. Neck snapped from the pressure of Thanos choking him. He died trying to protect his brother. Trying to fight for the good fight. Died at the hands of the man who twisted him in the first place and promised him suffering if he didn't deliver the tesseract.
Loki may have started out as a dark antagonist, then to a twisted villain, and eventually progressing to an Anti-Hero, but he died a hero.
This just breaks me. He was such a loveable and complicated character. He had many faults, faults he battled with every day. When it came down to it, he threw his own life down for his brother.
It upsets me he died so quickly and seemingly so pointlessly within the first ten minutes of Infinity War. But he also served a great, if I may, glorious purpose. He brought the Avengers together in the first place, and died trying to make sure another one of them, and his own brother, could live on to fight and stop Thanos.
Loki will always be my favorite character and hero and villain simultaneously in the MCU. And I couldn't thank Tom Hiddleston enough if I got the chance for his stellar performance of this fantastic and complicated character who helped bring the Avengers together, even if unintentionally.

Avengers (2012) | | Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
#seriously though it would've been amazing if the start of the film involved loki warning people about thanos so they could prep#and by prep i mean come together as a team#and maybe forgive loki? acknowledge what he's been through? throw in thor defending loki and insisting he himself was at fault too?#yeah#that way when loki dies the avengers form twice because of loki#AND it's a meaningful death because he's remembered#maybe get thanos to throw loki in vormir because he won't throw gamora (if we wanna say abuse is love smh... OR he throws BOTH)#lets say throwing gamora doesn't work#that red skull mirrors the ''it wasn't love'' line#that thanos says during the fight on Titan that not being able to get one stone won't stop him from his mission#that Loki is on Titan fighting too and he hears this and he hesitates#that he hesitates and Thanos snaps Tony's armour and impales him and he tells Strange to give the stone#but Stephen tells him they need more time#and Loki doesn't want them to die so he says ''you have the time stone! make more time!'' and Stephen says he wont bc there's only 1 way#and Loki says stfu and offers himself in place of Tony's life (isn't that how thanos works? a life for a life? half n half? 50%?)#''it's the soul stone isn't it? you made the sacrifice and it didn't work.'' *thanos turns to him* ''spare his life and take mine.''#and why would thanos take the deal?#because becAUSE BECAUSE 'if there's one thing you love it's power' and that thanos had power over him in the past goes unsaid on tony's face#BAM thank you for coming to another Ted Talk about how the iw/eg saga SUCKED#and then on vormir loki could get his final avengering words out with saying “you’re going to lose” followed with Thanos' amused “Am I?”#“It’s in their nature” “Your heroes are scattered your life is forfeit... where is my disadvantage Asgardian?”#''You're missing the point. There is no throne there is no version of this where you come out a saviour of the universe--''#'--and if they don't save half the world you can be damn sure they'll avenge it' 'i have an army' 'they have a hulk. and im not asgardian'#maybe he reveals his jotun skin here? maybe he does try to fight back now that the others are safer away and he'll save them more time?#he fights the futile fight and loses and Thanos reaches a hand down towards him lifting him by the neck “You will never be a god'' Loki says#loki simply doesn't interject and also gets to use jotun ice powers to maybe make an ice knife and attack (parallel to Laufey in Thor 1?)#that's it#that's the entire rewrite

Prompt: @winterisakiller: “Now or Never Kiss”
Tumblr media
Pairing: Loki/Reader Rating: T, Angst Prompt: “Now or Never Kiss”, or “The last kiss, except it’s not”
_______
“Loki,” you whisper in surprise. “What are you doing here?”
You wipe the drudges of sleep from your eyes and stifle a yawn. When he doesn’t answer, you cross your arms around yourself.
His eyes swim with lost hesitation when he looks at you. “You have to go.”
“What?” You ask with a laugh.
Suddenly, a bombastic explosion rocks the ship.  Screams erupt. Children and women begin running towards the end of the ship as men in their armor race towards the front.
“What’s going on?” Your voice cuts through the noise. As thick, ivory smoke begins to permeate the hallway, you hear the crushing sound of metal.
Loki shakes his head, pulling on your arm and dragging you from your sleeping cabin.
“Is it Hela?” You ask again, trying to dig your heals to stop your protection. “Loki, stop.”
“No,” He grudges and you are unsure what he’s answering.
Another blast shocks the ground, making you stumble on stiff legs. Loki turns around and effortlessly pulls you into his arms.
“What is it?” You try again as Loki hoists you higher.
He pays you no mind carelessly shuffling through the crowds and bringing you to one a large passage carrier. You begin to wrestle in his arms, squirming against him to get free from his cage. After two minutes, he drops you to the ground.
Waves of crowds weave around you, trying to get onto a secondary ship that has begun to board as many people as possible.
The elderly, the young, anyone who clearly can’t fight.
Valkyrie starts yelling at people, hurdling them into the cabin. “We have to go, now!”
Loki pushes you inside. “Go!”
You take a step back to face him and pull him closer when he pivots to turn away. “I’m not going anywhere until you tell me what’s going on.”
“You are an idiot,” He sneers, pulling your hands off of his clothes.
You dig your fingers into his arm, into the flesh, a sense of dread overcoming you when you begin to hear swords clashing.   “I know. Now tell me what is happening.”
You can hear Thor yelling for his brother. A deep, guttural yell as if he were soon to be overwhelmed.
“A relic from my past.” He glances down at you, his entire face forlorn, ashen, serious. “He’s come for something, and possibly for me.”
You know exactly who he means.
Thanos.
Thanos is attacking the Statesmen - the last remaining vestiges of Asgard’s inhabitants.
A shiver rolls up your spine at the mere thought that the Mad Titan is here.
And you know that if he is here, that Thor and Loki and the rest are just trying to buy time for everyone to escape. There is no hope of surviving this. Numbness spreads through you.
You’re too scared to cry, but the pain rips your heart all the same.
“Come with us.” You rush out in desperation, clawing Loki with a renewed vigor. “Come with me. Please.”
“You know I cannot.”
“Stop it,” You smack your fist in his chest. “You’ve just come back. I’ve just gotten you back. Don’t do this.”
“I have to do this.” He argues, for once saying the right thing. The right thing at the wrong time.
You try to remember the last time you held him in your arms.
It was before the attack on Jotunheim. Before Laufey, before Thor’s banishment.
You were children.
And Loki was forever changed, gone, vanished from you.
“Please,” you try again. “Choose me. Pick me.” You’re begging now and the hysteria spreads.  The panic floods you before it bursts, “Pick me… for once.”
“Don’t be so dramatic.” Loki grasps your fist in an ironclad grasp. “I’ll come back for you. I’m a God, there is nothing to fear.” He tries to appear casual, but you can read through it.
And you know it’s a lie.
Before he can leave, you jump into his arms, hands weaving into his silky hair, pulling his lips to yours. If he has to go, if he is forced to fight Thanos, you need this. Just one more time. One more kiss.
You wish you could have a hundred kisses, a thousand. You would move the planets for an infinite amount of more time with him. But to wish for such things would be futile and you aren’t a God, you don’t have the power to move the Universe.
His lips slant over yours, passionately. He licks the seam of your lips until you give him entry. And when he presses against you harder, your souls touch. His teeth nibble on your lips as his hand presses against your jaw, rubbing soft circles into the jowls of your cheek.
Then, Loki pulls back, his forehead touching yours. “I love you,” he says and thrusts you into the ship, just as the doors close.

9. Irresponsible Hate Anthem
…   Reader  …
At least Loki has allowed you to sit down, and good thing too considering that today is the most you’ve done since pushing yourself and your limits by healing the priestess. He has also brought you something to drink and some grape-like fruits. All in all: he is procrastinating and it’s making you awfully nervous.
“Loki.” The god scurries off to fetch you a blanket. “Loki!” you call after him. “Just get your ass back here and start talking!”
Whirling towards you, his jaw clenches and eyes darken with fury...but he stops himself and does as asked. “This is the last time I will allow such insubordination, mortal.”
“Fine.” Ramping up the sarcasm, you clasp your hands and plead, “Oh, mighty Loki. Bestow your wisdom upon me!”
Silence stretches. If he hadn’t been completely stone faced then you might have feared you’d gone too far. As it is, however, the Asgardian simply sighs. He and the others...they should be immortal but he looks old now. A smidgen of discomfort wiggles into your chest, sending tendrils out to legs and arms with the urge to fidget, to tap an unsteady rhythm with a foot, anything to ease the tension you are feeling. At the same time, a self-empowering annoyance is nudging your mind from the other side in an attempt to point out the next issue. I should not feel sorry. He’s a bad guy.
“There are influencing factors to the events that have led to this point.” Loki speaks softly despite a strain to his voice that tells you he is holding back. “In a manner, of all this started many thousand years ago by your time...but what is of relevance to you is the understanding of why your realm was beset by the Chitauri under my command. Who I served by doing as I did.”
“It...it wasn’t your decision?” The wine in your glass is sloshing subtly so you set it down with a clatter.
The green gaze wanders from hands to face, wordlessly binding you to anything he is about to say. “I did not propose it...but I did not oppose it.” Sighing again, he shrugs. “Explaining why will take more time than we have available. Suffice to say that I found myself in the questionable service of a being, an entity, called Thanos. The Mad Titan, is another of his monikers...and quite descriptive too.”
“Titan? Like...Greek myth titan?”
“...no. I would almost suppose the Midgardian titans of old would be preferable. Thanos is powerful in more ways than you can imagine and my fear is that his plan is much worse than even I suspect. Wherever he goes, only half of the population survives to struggle through a ravaged realm, slowly dying from the blows he has dealt them.”
Liar! “But Earth survived! You didn’t even kill half of New York, and now you want to tell me there’s a dude that could end half a planet worth of people? Pfft!”
Loki’s cold hands wrap around your fingers. “Don’t be foolish. Conquering Mi- Earth was not his main objective but a bit of fun to test the strength of the forces, the defences.” Hesitating, he focuses briefly on the way he has grasped your hands. “What Thanos wanted – and still wants – from your realm is an object with immense power. That object, the Tessaract, is one of six and all together they will make him unstoppable.”
“The Avengers stopped you...him,” you try slowly, “they’d caught you. So...you didn’t get that...Tessa-thing to him. Right?”
“No, Thanos does not have the Tessaract,” he agrees before meeting your gaze again, “but he will try again. And he will have me hunted down for leaving his side...for failing him.”
There was a time, when someone claiming the epitome of evil from space would arrive to ransack the Earth they would be considered clinically insane. The problem is that every human watched the news footage from New York and saw the aliens pour out of the sky to follow Loki. Can there be someone worse than him? It stings to admit it, but you don’t doubt for a second it’s possible.
Looking to the god, you fight to keep the fear at bay. “We gotta warn them!”
“They have been and they are preparing.” He still holds your hands, grounding you in an inexplicable way. “After having fought the Chitauri, the heroes of Earth know what’s at stake.”
It’s all too much – worn out from the walking, dazed by the information, and frustrated with the situation you’re in – you slump into the seat in silent despair. “Then...but...nowhere’s safe?”
He draws you in by wrapping an arm around you and you don’t even care to bother about it. Of the two evils seemingly available, Loki is by far the lesser if he is telling the truth.
“One. One place might be safe for you although...it’s a long shot,” the god mutters into your hair.
...  Loki   ...
Night has fallen, enveloping the temple in velvety silence. Watching from the balcony, Loki sees the lights of the guards’ lanterns follow the same predictable pattern as always and he knows that for the moment, his frail mortal will be safe, so he retreats to the shadows of one of their rooms to use the Tessaract once again.
When the blue haze releases him, it’s into a cold world under the grey light of dawn. Crystalline particles are shoved around by gusts of wind, worn from the rock and ice that covers the ground as far as his eyes can see. Admittedly, the view is rather impeded by craggy cliffs to three sides and crumbling ruins to the other, but the Jotun knows what awaits him past the remnants of the civilization that dwelt here. My people. Scoffing at the thought, he stalks towards the open.
Between the castle ruins and the very precipice of a deep canyon stands a circle of Alfheim’s druids hand in hand along the precarious edge. Where Loki’s hair is whipping around his face, his cloak tangling in itself and his limbs, the Älfir seem untouched by the raging of the cold elements. At least none of us are freezing, a thought jeers in his mind.
Only as Loki comes to stand behind them can he hear the song. It’s almost as though he can see the words through the corner of his eye like a shimmer dropping into the darkness below but there is nothing to see when he focuses: no sign of the magic...and no indication that the efforts are working.
Crouching, fingers digging into the icy snow, a part of the god seeks to tether itself with the realm he came from. He can feel it. Or rather, he can’t. The frozen core should echo the songs of the Jötun of forgotten ages, reduced to a whisper before he himself silenced them forever. There is nothing. For a week now, the Älfir have done as promised and poured their living magic into the deadly wound Jotunheim suffered yet despite the constants efforts nothing has changed.
It is a lost cause. Loki knew from the beginning this was a possibility. Not all damage can be undone. Not all wounds heal.
This was never my home! Then how come an icy splinter which has been gnawing at his heart now grows and digs its own canyons until, with a painful snap, something breaks? Screaming out his rage, the agonized howl is swallowed by the wind, echoed by the haunting echoes from the depths below.
...  Reader   ...
You’re not sure what has woken you up. Lying perfectly quiet, the song of nightingale – maybe, you don’t really know what sort of bird it is – floats in through the open window and almost lulls you to sleep again.
Wait...there it is, the sound that doesn’t belong. Sitting up, it takes a moment before you figure out which direction the staccato creaks and huffs come from and you’re in two minds about what to do when you recognize the universal sound of a sob that someone attempts to stifle.
Loki?
There’s no doubt it’s him. He’ll kill me, if he realizes I’ve heard this.

The Support System
SUMMARY: The Avengers have managed to collect all the infinity stones across the universe, and are currently keeping them in far corners of the world, only for research and to see if they can improve the planet and its people. Reader is a researcher with Tony Stark and Bruce Banner, as well as a field agent. Loki is currently serving time for his actions in New York City in 2012.
A/N: You can find the same fic on A03, if you prefer that. Let me know if you like this and I’ll keep posting more :)
Chapter: 1/?

Audience: general.

CHAPTER 1:
‘So we’re close!?’
‘Absolutely, we just have to crack it and baby’s gonna sing’ Tony smiles. ‘I’m good for a drink right about now’.
‘Me too’ you take off your safety goggles and place them on the your immaculately organized workspace. ‘Bruce?’
‘Yeah, I’ll join you’ he waves one hand in the air as he stares at the Reality Gem.
You and Tony leave the lab and head to the bar. ‘Beer?’ you ask, handing him a bottle. He takes it, you get yourself a can, and sit down on the couch.
‘How’s it going with Nat?’ he asks.
‘Great, we expect to be ready in a month to carry out the extraction’.
‘I can’t wait’ Tony’s eyes gleam like an excited child’s. ‘We’ve been tracking these guys for a year now, the tech they’ve managed to get their hands on is insane’.
‘Okay, I get why you want it…’
‘Research purposes, of course!’
‘Of course…’ you grin, knowing that research is never ALL Stark wants shiny new toys for, ‘but I do want to remind you that you did promise me and Natasha a whole day of playing with them before you break them apart’.
‘In a contained, safe environment’
‘Yes. I’m just reminding you because you do get excited’.
Tony chuckles and takes a swig from beer. ‘Next month can’t get here soon enough. But you sure you’re ready?’
‘Oh absolutely. You’ve been tracking them for a year, and we’ve been training for a year. Ask me anything’.
‘How do you hold the Chitauri M7 Blaster?’
You stand up, set your beer down on the table and position your right leg before your left, then stretch out your right arm while tucking your left wrist under your right elbow and having your fingers wiggle from underneath. It looks ridiculous without the weapon, so Tony laughs. You laugh too and sit back down.
It’s been a year and three months since you were recruited by S.H.I.E.L.D. You were originally a member of Maria Hill’s team, but three months later, after Tony Stark found some papers you wrote in secret about the sentience of all the Infinity Stones, as well as your records of correspondence with Doctor Strange, he decided your talents were better put to use in his lab with himself and Bruce Banner. Not wanting to abandon your role as a field agent, Tony offered you an apprenticeship with Natasha Romanova, which you gladly accepted.
Tony teased you for being taller than most of the agents and Avengers initially, until Thor showed up and stole your thunder, pun intended. You have broad shoulders, stand at 5’ 12”, and have jet black hair till your shoulders, which you mostly keep open, because you like how it frames your face. You love that people find you intimidating and hardly talk to you, when the truth is you’re the total opposite, a fact only known by Tony and a few Avengers.
‘Who else are you planning to send for the extraction?’ you ask.
‘You and Nat, of course. Then Clint. Thor might be able to help with the handling of the alien tech, so him. Couple of other S.H.I.E.L.D agents led by Hill’.
You smile at the thought of getting to meet Maria Hill again. She was your first mentor, and taught you nearly everything you know about fighting.
‘What about Loki?’ you ask.
‘I thought of it and decided against it. This is a sensitive operation, and surrounded by all those weapons, if he gets any ideas, you’ll all be at risk’.
‘I’m sure he won’t, he’s been doing well. But it’s your call’ you finish your beer. ‘Back to work?’
xx
After spending another six hours at the lab with Tony and Bruce, you three finally call it a day and head back to your rooms. After getting to yours, you take a long shower, strings of theories on how you could crack the reality stone running through your head. You decide to get another drink, a cocktail perhaps, before curling up with some research papers Doctor Strange sent over.
You walk over to the bar in the residence wing of the tower, sure that it would be empty at this time on a weekday. Just before you reach the entrance, though, you hear two people fight.
‘…it was irresponsible and childish, and you could have gotten them killed!’ Thor’s voice booms. You decide to listen. ‘If I hadn’t taken it from her hand, she would have died anyway!’ Loki responded. ‘You let ME handle it then’. ‘Right, because I can never do anything right, can I, brother?’
Silence. ‘Just let me handle it next time. You do not involve yourself unless expressly asked’. Thor storms out from the other side of the bar, leaving Loki alone. Your own experiences with being grossly misunderstood makes you feel for Loki. You walk into the bar.
Loki doesn’t notice until you get close. ‘What do you want’ he asks, tired.
You go closer and envelope him in a tight hug. Shocked, Loki freezes. ‘What are you doing’ he whispers, fake annoyance in his tone.
‘Nothing’ you pull back. ‘I came to make myself a drink, do you want one?’ ‘No’ he said defiantly. You shrug and go behind the bar to get some cranberry juice. ‘Yes’ he says, in a softer tone. You smile.
You proceed to make yourselves a vodka cranberry. You would normally make it in a regular glass, but because you think Loki needs cheering up, you pour it in a Martini cocktail glass with an unnecessary amount of umbrellas to make him laugh. You manage to get a small smile as you slide his drink across the bar.
‘Thank you’ he says.
You take a sip of your own drink. ‘Wanna talk about it?’
His silence is answer enough, and you know not to push. ‘No worries’ you say. ‘How’s the drink? Want another?’
He nods. You make him another one while sipping from your glass.
‘I’ve been in the tower a while’ he says finally. ‘Yes, I know’. ‘I’m still looked at with nothing but suspicion’. You sigh. ‘I know. They’re only afraid’. ‘I’ve been painfully patient. I just don’t have anybody on my side to vouch for me’. ‘Oh’ is that it you think. He just needs a P.R. agent. You chuckle at the thought. ‘Is that funny?’ he asks. ‘No, I just thought of a thing. But I can do it’. ‘Do what?’ ‘Vouch for you. Be your uh… image manager. Whatever’.
Loki narrows his eyes at you. Even though he’s known you for about a year, this is the first time you’ve actually spoken to him. He can’t understand why you would help him.
‘Alright’ he says. He finishes the second drink as well. You ask if he wants another, and he just holds his glass out to you. ‘Something stronger this time?’
xx
About six drinks later, Loki has a good buzz going, and you are not even close to tipsy. You roll your eyes at him, cursing your high capacity for alcohol, but deciding you’ve had enough of it, you tell Loki you’re off to bed and you’ll see him in the morning.
‘Let me walk you to your room’ he offers. You accept.
xx
You absolutely love your room; an entire section of the room is just glass, overlooking the city of New York. It gets hot during the days, but it looks magical at night. Once you’ve reached your room, you stretch, take off all your clothes, and get under your blankets. It’s quite late, so you decide to keep the research papers Strange sent over for the morning.
xx
A few hours later, just as you feel like you might fall asleep, you hear a knock on the door. You groan and reach for your phone to check the time. 3:35 AM.
‘Who is it?’ you call out. ‘Loki’
You know for a fact he has never felt comfortable enough to go to anyone’s room at 3:30 in the morning in the Tower.
‘One sec’ you call out, hopping out of bed to retrieve your shirt and a pair of shorts. You dive back under the covers and yell ‘Come in!’.
Loki looks like he has sobered up, and smells like he just took a shower. He shuts the door softly and makes his way to your bed.
‘What’s wrong?’ you ask.
He sits on the corner of your bed, next to your feet, so far that he looks supremely uncomfortable.
‘You can sit normally, you know. I won’t get offended’.
He obliges by placing himself further towards the centre of the bed, while still maintaining his corner. ‘Thank you’.
‘What’s wrong?’ ‘I couldn’t sleep, I just wanted to talk. I hope I didn’t wake you’. ‘You didn’t’ you say, ‘What did you want to talk about?’ ‘I-‘ he hesitates, ‘Well. I- I wasn’t in control in New York’. ‘Uhuh…’ ‘I was made to do it. I know that’s a lame excuse but it’s true. Thanos found me when I got lost and he… tortured me. But I can’t tell anybody that because they wouldn’t listen’. ‘Who’s Thanos?’ you ask.
Loki proceeds to tell you about the Mad Titan who killed his own people, his thirst for power over the entire universe, his obsession with the Goddess of Death, and his children. You listen in stunned silence. Thanos’ children inflicted unmentionable torture on Loki when he fell from the Bifrost.
As Loki recounts these events, tears start to fall, and he is visibly shaking. You scoot closer to him and hold his hands. ‘It’s alright’.
He stops to sniff, and catch his breath. ‘Do you want to go on?’ you ask.
‘Yes please’.
You don’t let go of his hands for the remainder of his story.
Once it looks like he has finished, you hand him a few tissues from your nightstand. He wipes his face clean and hands them back to you. You turn to throw them.
‘Why are you listening to me?’ he asks. ‘I don’t see why I shouldn’t’ you say simply.  ‘It’s only the decent thing to do’. ‘No one else seems to think so’ he says bitterly. ‘Like I said, they’re scared’ you say. ‘Why aren’t you, then?’
You shrug. He looks at you. Your room is dark, but some light from the city spills into the room, so he gets a good look at your features. They only look at him with kindness. No fear. ‘Seriously. Why aren’t you afraid of me? What happened to you?’
You quickly look away. ‘Nothing like that. I just don’t scare easy’.
He says nothing. A few minutes pass in silence. You stifle a yawn. The watch says 4:45 AM. You’ve got a long day at the lab, and then with Natasha, and then at the lab again. You need to catch at least a little sleep.
‘Listen…’ you look back at him. ‘Do you want to sleep here, next to me?’
He widens his eyes in surprise. ‘You’d do that for me?’
‘Yeah’ you say, not really seeing the big deal. You move to the right side of the bed and pat the left as if to indicate that he may lay down there. He moves up to the pillow and lays his head on it, then settles the rest of his body down. You feel the bed dip.

Heart Of The Matter
Heart of the Matter- Bucky Barnes x Reader
Requested by @darkness-in-bright with prompts:
46. “Are you decent?” “Not morally, but I am wearing pants, if that’s what you’re asking.
126. I really want to talk to you. And not through the door.
138. “You don’t get to say anything to me!”
So for the purposes of this story- Tony didn't die, Steve isn't an old man. End Game had a happier ending. Reader is Tony’s daughter...because we all know my sheer OBSESSION with Stark readers and OCs. She was about 15 at the time of the first Avengers movie so if I did my math right...With the End Game time jump she should be 27ish. If I’m wrong...pretend I’m not. This is like 7K words and I’m not even sorry. 😂
As always likes, comments and reblogs are SO APPRECIATED. Requests are open (Avengers, Supernatural, TVD/The Originals. I do dabble in some Green Arrow and The Flash (DC TV Only please). Prompt list can be found here.
Please let me know if you would like to be added to this tag list or one of my others.

As Tony Stark’s daughter, people treated you differently your whole life. You were always catered to, and you kind of hated it. It took you a long time to come to terms with the fact that you would never have a normal life. When you were 12, Tony was kidnapped. The video of him that the kidnappers sent still plagued your dreams to this day. When you finally got him back and he came out as Iron Man, that had made you give up your dream of having any normality; You were happy to let it go, you couldn’t have been more proud of your father.
Tony had always been in your life. At first it was minimal because your mother used you as a bargaining chip for money. Your mother had been a girl he met out and had a fling with. By the time you were 3, you were with him full time. When Tony had found out your mother was abusing prescription meds, he cleaned his life up and fought for you. He still had his fun, but taking care of you came first. Eventually she vanished from your life after a handful of supervised visits.
While Tony was busy saving the world, you were working on your studies. You attended a private a school to help keep you out of the lime light. You remembered hearing about Captain America from Agent Coulson and were excited to meet him when you found out he came out of the ice. You didn’t know your grandparents. He knew your grandfather. You wanted to learn about a different side of him. Phil had promised to arrange it, but then Loki and the Chitauri came for New York. You had been only 15 at the time. By some stroke of luck you had gone unharmed. You had been through a lot in your young life already, and watching Tony disappear through that hole in the sky had shaken you to your core. You had been in the tower and had run outside crying. Steve Rogers had caught you in his arms and held you tight while you broke down. He didn’t let you go until Tony opened his eyes. That day forged a bond with you and Steve. He became the big brother you had always needed.
Once things had settled down, you closed yourself off from everyone, including your father. Tony had to hire a tutor for you to continue your school work because you wouldn’t leave the tower. Tony has been distraught when he couldn’t reach you. It had been Steve that had broken through your walls after he moved in to The Avengers tower. He had let you guide him through all of the pop culture he didn’t understand and he earned your trust by treating you like you were his equal, not a kid. He didn’t try to get you to talk like Tony and Pepper did. He didn’t treat you like glass the way Happy and Rhodey did. He would tell you stories about when he was a kid and how he was trying to adjust after being gone for so long. Eventually, you slowly started opening up. You told him how you were certain that being Iron Man would take your father from you too soon but that he had to do it. The world needed heroes like him and Steve. You confessed your fears of being ill prepared for what was coming in the world. You couldn’t protect yourself, and the idea that you would be a distraction from other people being saved ate at you. Steve taught you how to defend yourself, you trained with him. Tony had been grateful that Steve had helped you and brought his brilliant and loving daughter back to life. Like Tony, you graduated high school far too early. At 16, went to Columbia University to get your degree in computer science and engineering, you also minored in Business. At age 20 you had a masters degree and you were helping Pepper with Stark Industries. Eventually it would be yours to take over. You also worked behind the scenes for The Avengers. Tony had been insistent that you never went into the field, but he didn't mind you working at the tower with Maria Hill.
The time of the Accords had been one of the worst times in your life. Watching Steve and Tony fracture down the middle. You saw both sides and cried when you told Steve you had to stand with your father. No matter what, you would never turn your back on Tony. The two of you were a team. Steve understood that more than you knew at the time. You had been shattered when you found out about Bucky being the one that murdered your grandparents and the fact that Steve had covered it up. Steve had told you so many stories about Sergeant James Buchanan Barnes. Your brain couldn’t reconcile the fun loving man and the Soldier that gave your grandparents such a violent end. Steve’s lie had hurt more than anything, yet part of you understood. You knew what Bucky meant to him. Bucky was his family and he would do anything to protect him. After all...there wasn't a thing in the world you wouldn't do to protect your father.
It had been you that convinced Tony that it wasn’t Bucky’s fault. You were a woman obsessed after Steve went on the run. You needed to understand. You had done extensive research into Hydra after everything that had happened. You needed to be able to separate The Winter Soldier from Bucky Barnes. You believed that Steve knew James Barnes best. He was rarely wrong. When you delved into the research into how they had programmed him, you felt instant regret for the rift between you and Steve. You begged Tony to find a way to forgive and move on. You had reached out to Steve a few times and met once. Steve had been hesitant, not because he didn’t trust you, but because he was afraid you would get hurt. You had to forgive him and in person and so he agreed. You spent two days with him and Sam in South America. It had been hard to leave them knowing you didn’t know if and when you would see them again. Tony knew you had seen Steve and made amends, he just wasn’t ready yet. Tony wanted to find your level of empathy, he just needed to work at it. Then Thanos happened and your world shattered again.
your father disappeared onto that space ship. Bruce has called Steve, Nat, Sam and Wanda for help. You had been a wreck when they walked back into the compound. Steve wanted you to stay behind but there was no way you were staying. At the very least you could help Shuri get the Infinity Stone from Vision. You ended up on the battlefield and watched everyone around you crumble into nothing. You were inconsolable until Carol Danvers rescued your father. When all seemed lost, you helped your father heal and settle down into a quiet life. He married Pepper and you finally had a sister.
After 5 years of despair, it was time to fight again. And while you got the world back. While the loss of Nat was nearly suffocating, you couldn't be more proud of her and her sacrifice. You had almost lost Tony when he snapped Thanos out of existence. He was never quite the same physically, but he happily accepted it to live in peace with his family knowing he had stopped the Mad Titan. It was his “one last mission” and he was lucky he made it back home.
You found anything but peace. You needed to do more than sitting behind a desk. After meeting Carol Danvers you realized that another Thanos could come your way and even if one didn’t, the world was in disarray again since the population had been restored. So, you joined the newly formed SHIELD. It was during this time you had gotten to know James Buchanan Barnes and he turned your world upside down. You found yourself getting lost in the blue of his eyes on more than one occasion. Goosebumps covered your skin any time his hands were on you during training. You had started looking forward to missions with just the two of you and then you started to realize he was like Steve. Steve Rogers acting as a over protective big brother was bad enough, you didn’t need his side kick jumping in on the mix. You thought that with all of the training you had done and how you continually proved yourself would be enough, clearly you were wrong. Bucky did whatever he could to block you out, keep you in the jet or back at the compound. You had finally had enough.
“No! You don't get to say anything to me right now." You were raging. Bucky had just gotten back from the mission that you were supposed to go on with him. He had again convinced Steve that he didn't need you. He botched the mission and almost got himself killed. He was trying to talk his way out of it and you didn’t want to hear it.
"Y/N, calm down." Bucky immediately regretted it. He saw the rage burn behind your eyes. Sam had his arms crossed in front of him, leaning against the counter of the common area kitchen enjoying the show. Bucky should have known better, you had quite the temper.
“Calm down?! God I am so sick of this! It’s because Tony is my father, isn’t it? It’s such bullshit! You needed me on that mission. I could have gotten in and out quickly and gotten all of the information off of their drives and you could have watched my back while I did it. Instead, YOU made a big "Winter Solider" splash, dropped way more bodies than necessary and didn't even get all of the information I need! These are huge drug smugglers and now they know we're after them. So now who's going to have to be smarter, work harder and get the info we need from behind the scenes? ME! NOT YOU." You took a deep breath and tried to reign in your temper. You pinched the bridge of your nose. "I don't need you to protect me. I'm not some helpless damsel. If I wasn't good enough to be in the field...Fury NEVER would have me given me the okay and Rhodey sure as hell would have put a stop to it if I wasn’t prepared. I get you're trying to gain points with my Father...because I know he doesn't want me here. But this time, your need to get on his good side fucked up this whole operation!" Naturally Steve walked in during the middle of your tirade wide eyed.
"I don't know if that language is necessary." Sam let out a low whistle, certain that your head was going to pop off your shoulders. He watched as you turned slowly and narrowed your eyes at Steve.
“Actually, Captain Rogers" the tone in your voice oozed sarcasm, "it's perfectly necessary. And you are JUST has bad as he is" you pointed over at Bucky. "You find any excuse to pull me off of missions and keep me in this tower like I'm frickin Rapunzel or something." You pushed past the two of them and stalked down the hall, slamming your door. The three men stood there quietly.
"Soooo...that went well." Sam finally quipped. Buck and Steve both glared at him. "Don't glare at me, she's not wrong. I love going on missions with her. She's smart and fast. She calculates every risk and doesn’t do anything unless absolutely necessary. She doesn't need you to protect her. I mean I get why you want to." He directed the last part of his comment to Bucky.
“What the hell does that mean pigeon." Bucky shot Sam another glare causing Steve to groan. He wasn’t in the mood for their bickering.
"Look...do I think you want to win bonus points with Papa Stark...sure. But not for the reason she thinks. You have feelings for her. You don't know exactly how to tell her or how to deal with it so you try to be her protector. She doesn’t need another man in her life trying to bubble wrap her. Tony and Rhodey have that covered. She wants to be your equal. She’s more than proven herself. And I’m not insulting you, it’s just an observation. We've been working together long enough for me to know you. I know your tells. I also see how you look at her when you think no one else is looking. Try talking to her...outside of missions. Maybe ask her out. Use some of that charm you have that Steve told us about." Sam shrugged and walked away.
Bucky swallowed uncomfortably as Steve turned his gaze towards him. Bucky wasn't sure how he would react and of course Sam had said something in front of him. Sam was right, he did have a thing for you. How could he not? You were so many things; funny, smart, empathetic, which he knew better than anyone. You were beautiful and had a smile that could light up the darkest of places. He even loved your temper. You had a passion and fire inside of you, God help anyone that got in your way.
“Look Steve, you know how amazing she is, how could I not want to be with her? She’s incredible. But I also know nothing can ever happen. I mean the age difference alone. I know how much she means to you. I’d never cross that line.” Steve smiled.
“I don’t think that we can really consider an age difference here when you, like me, spent so much time under ice. And then the fact that you were gone for 5 years. It’s not a normal situation. And yes, she does mean a lot to me. I’ve known her since she was a kid. I watched her grow up. But she isn’t a kid anymore. She’s a grown woman. It’s not up to me who she spends her time with. If I had to pick, you’d be at the top of the list. Buck- you’re not the man Hydra made you into anymore. You healed that part of yourself in Wakanda. You are a good man.”
“Tony won’t approve.” Steve smiled for a moment.
“You really think that would stop her?” Bucky laughed at that comment. But he absolutely thought Tony’s disapproval would put an end to anything he could have with you. “Tony forgave you. It took time but he moved past that. And if you end up being what makes her happy, he wouldn’t stand in the way of that. And she and Sam are right, she doesn’t need us to protect her. I’m equally guilty in trying to keep her out of the line of fire.” Steve clapped Bucky on the shoulder as he pondered what Steve and Sam has said and headed to talk to you.
***
You were pacing in your room trying to work out your anger when there was a knock at the door. You rolled your eyes. You knew who it was without any verification.
“Leave me alone Steve.” You heard him chuckle. He wouldn’t let anger stay between the two of you. You had made an agreement a long time ago to always work out your differences.
“C’mon Y/N- I really want to talk to you. And not through the door.“ You groaned and headed over to your door and yanked it open. Steve had his arms crossed and he was leaning against the doorway.
“What?”
“I’m sorry.” He sighed. “You’re right. I need to stop putting my personal feelings for you in front of the job we have to do. I think after everything that we’ve seen and been through I just want to know you’re always safe. Your father made it clear I was responsible for you. But it’s not fair to you.”
“Thanks Steve. I’m just so sick of being treated like I’m made of glass. I can handle myself. I know the risks.”
“I know. Your more than qualified to be in the field and I trust you more than about anyone. I promise to do better. And Bucky isn’t trying to earn points with Tony. I think he just thinks that the Stark family has been through enough. You’re the one that made it possible for him to be apart of this family. Your forgiveness and understanding led to Tony’s. Being here has allowed him to get back to the person he used to be. “
“Yeah well thanks to him I have a ton of work to do.” You felt your anger deflate like a balloon. “I better get to it.” You nodded over to your desk where two huge flat screen monitors sat.
“Alright, let me know if you need anything.” You nodded and watched him retreat down the hall before you shut your door.
Bucky Barnes was under your skin. He had been since the day you met him in Wakanda. You expected this hardened soldier but found a man with an easy smile and kind eyes. Whatever monster that had lived within him had been snuffed out. It had started when you’d notice that his gaze would linger on you just a little longer than necessary. Your heart would pound anytime he was in close proximity and you were certain he had the most beautiful eyes you had ever seen. But it would never progress past a few longing looks and mild flirting. Bucky Barnes was determined to stay on Tony Starks good side, certainly any sort of relationship with his daughter would be frowned upon. You sighed and sat down.
“Friday- run through the files Sergeant Barnes obtained. We then need to get into their servers and find out when the next deal is going to happen so we can stop them.”
“Right away Miss Stark.” It was going to be a very long night.
***
It had been a few days and you finally got a lead to where the drug ring might be next. You were running down to the gym where you knew Bucky was. You stopped when you saw it empty and stepped towards the locker room with trepidation.
“Barnes! “Are you decent?” You yelled into the doorway. You heard him laugh.
“Not morally, but I am wearing pants, if that’s what you’re asking.” you rolled your eyes and strolled in, your heels clacking on the floor. He had been more flirty than normal the past few days. It was knocking you off your guard. He shot you a grin when he saw you. True to his word, he was wearing pants and nothing else. His prosthetic arm was on the bench, and his impressive form was still damp from the shower. You didn’t realize you were staring until he cleared his throat. You felt the heat rush to your cheeks and you stepped forward looking at the still angry scars on shoulder where his arm used to be attached. He would normally be self conscious with someone staring at him the way you were, but he saw interest, not pity. He sucked his breath in when you ran your fingers over the scar. You quickly realized what you were doing and jumped back.
“Sorry - I, uh, I’m sorry I shouldn’t have done that.” You had a sheepish look on your face. “Just...does that bother you?” Your head was tilted to the side.
“Not since Wakanda. Shuri fixed me up. Now it doesn’t hurt to wear the arm.” You looked up at him.
“You sure? I used the 3D printer to print skin grafts for another agent”
“Of course you did.” You narrowed your eyes at him and pursed your lips. “It’s more cosmetic now, no physical pain. So unless you think I need plastic surgery.”
“Shut up. That’s not what I meant. I’ve just never seen you without your prosthetic. Scars make a person more interesting. I have plenty of my own.” He watched you shudder. He remembered the deep cuts to your back during the battle with Thanos. You had been running to protect Peter and one of Thanos’ soldiers had slashed your back a few times. He remembered your screams from being cleaned and stitched up vividly.
“So...do you need something or just here to ogle me?” He wiggled his eyesbrows at you and winked when he saw your face go red again.”
“You’re obnoxious.” He was enjoying your fluster. “You need to get your shit. You, Steve and Sam are headed to Chicago to try and bust the drug ring. I finally found a lead.”
“You’re not coming?” He was certain after the last time that it would be a cold day in hell before you missed this.
“Well unfortunately I still have my Stark Industries responsibilities. And in two days we have a fundraiser. Please let me remind you that you three are on the guest list and help the elite open their big fat checkbooks. Don’t get killed and make sure Sam doesn’t mess up his pretty face.”
“Of course Doll.” He watched your eyes narrow again. You gave him a quick second look before you strutted out of the locker room completely flustered again. His skin still almost tingled where you had touched him.
***
You looked around the ball room at the richest of the rich. Everyone seemed to be in good spirits, but you felt a cloud over you. Steve and company were successful in stopping the shipment and a few of the ring members, but the leader had eluded them again. They were capitalizing on people’s pain and desperation. It hadn’t been any easy transition back for many who were snapped away. They often turned to substances to drown their sorrows. Maybe it was because you had found out your mother had recently overdosed. You took it personally. You didn’t know the woman, she was a stranger, but she was still your mother.
“Well look at you.” You turned to see a beaming Tony with Pepper holding onto his good arm. The arm that had been touched by the infinity stones was covered by a black brace.
“Hi Daddy.” You smiled and hugged him.
“Hi darling. Morgan misses you. She insists you come visit next weekend.”
“I know. I’m a terrible sister, I’ve just been distracted.”
“You’ve been working too hard.”
“Gee, I wonder where she gets it from?” Pepper quipped and you let out a genuine laugh.
“Well you are your father’s daughter. I couldn’t be more proud.” Tony kissed your cheek. “We’re going to make some rounds. I’ll see you later.” You nodded. You were by yourself again for a few moments and then saw Steve’s smiling face approaching you.
“Hey kid.”
“Steven.” You smiled at him.
“Ready?” You nodded and he led you up to the podium. Steve greeted the crowd and then introduced you. No matter how many crowds you spoke in front of, you always got nervous. As you approached the podium you looked out to the crowd and caught Bucky’s eye. He gave a reassuring smile that took your breath away. At some point between his mission and now he had gotten his long hair cut into a style similar to what it was before the war. He looked stunning in his tux. You cleared your throat and adverted your eyes away from the Sergeant’s.
“Thank you all so much for coming. It’s a happy occasion that brings us all here tonight as we celebrate the one year anniversary that so many of you were returned to us. I would be remised if I didn’t acknowledge the struggle that so many across not only our nation, but the world, have experienced as they’ve tried to adjust back to normal life. With that in mind, and the reason why we invited you here tonight is to announce a new program through Stark Industries that will aim to help those in need get to normalcy. The Romanova Foundation is named for Natasha Romanoff. You had to pause as your voice cracked on Natasha’s name. ”If it weren’t for Natasha’s bravery and sacrifice, many of us would not be standing here tonight. So I ask you to open your hearts and your wallets to help those of us in need as Natasha would have. Thank you.” You stepped away from the podium quickly as the crowd roared with applause. Steve tried to grab your arm but you shrunk away and shook your head. You bit back tears as you rushed towards a door towards a private balcony, grabbing a bottle of champagne on your way.
***
Bucky watched as you made a quick exit. He was going to follow you when he felt a hand on his shoulder. He was surprised to see a smiling Tony.
“Sergeant. I was informed you had a semi successful mission yesterday, glad the three of you stopped that shipment. I also heard you got your ass ripped by my daughter last week for bumping her off a mission and then you made a huge mess of it.” Bucky swallowed hard. Tony must have read his anxiety and held his hands up. “No judgment here. I made plenty of messes myself. And I don’t envy anyone that catches her temper. It burns a little. She gets it from my side.” Tony shrugged. “You know she talks about you a lot.” Tony fired off his comments quickly.
“She does?”
“Yeah...I don’t think she realizes how much she does. She has Morgan conflicted between who her favorite Super Soldier is. You or Cap. Naturally her favorite Avenger is me. I gather you and my daughter work together a lot.”
“We do. Steve or I are usually with her.”
“To protect her?”
“Yes. She’s not a super soldier, though she thinks she is.” Tony snickered. “She’s not enhanced like Wanda. But she’s a huge asset. I don’t know what we would do without her. But some of these people we’re up against are enhanced, So Steve and I, we stick close to Y/N.”
“How close is close Barnes?” Bucky paled as Tony stared him down. After a moment he laughed and clapped Bucky on his shoulder.
“I’m messing with you. Rogers and I had a conversation. While he’s not usually the type to butt in, I think he’s trying to cut through the red tape. Look, the past is the past. After everything that happened, I don’t live there anymore. The only thing I care about is that my daughter is safe and happy. I’ve been assured that the man that they made you is gone for good. And that is good enough for me. I don’t know if you know this, but my daughter and Natasha got very close in the 5 years between Thanos annihilating half the planet and when we got everyone back. She and Nat worked tirelessly with Carol and company to watch the universe. Nat’s death was hard on all of us, but especially my daughter. Today is a hard day for her. If I know her as well as I think I do, she’s hiding outside on the far left balcony. Probably with a bottle of booze drowning her sorrows. Do me a favor...go and check on our girl.” It took Bucky a moment to react but he nodded his head and started walking towards the other side of the room before Tony yelled his name and he turned. Tony approached him again. “I may be out of commission, but just remember that I still have a suit and if you hurt my daughter there’s no serum in the world that can protect you.” With that, Tony turned on his heel and walked away.
***
You tried to hold back your tears. You knew today was going to be hard. You didn’t realize how hard until you started talking about Natasha. You took a long drink out of your bottle and looked out over the lights of the nearby city. You heard the door open behind you and exhaled.
“I don’t want to talk about it.” When you heard the door shut you thought you had been left alone but then you felt the cool metal of Bucky’s hand in your shoulder.
“You don’t have to talk. I just don’t want you to be alone feeling like this.” You nodded but didn’t turn, you couldn’t face him. So instead he stood behind you, his arms on each side of yours protectively caging you in. “Is it okay if I talk?” You nodded.
“You know what I remembered first when we came back? Your face. For me, you represented redemption, forgiveness and all of the things I didn’t think I deserved. When Steve told me that you two had worked things out, that you understood, it was a huge relief. I knew how important you were to him. Tony too. I felt like I robbed him of the family he found after the ice.” He was leaning down so he could speak quietly in your ear. “Then he told me that you wanted to meet me. God, I was terrified. All I could remember was Tony when he saw that video. I couldn’t imagine seeing the monster I had been reflected in anyone else’s eyes. Saying you forgive someone is one thing, truly being able to mean it was another. But then when you all came to try and stop Thanos the first time you waltzed off that jet and gave me the biggest smile and then you hugged me instead of shaking my hand. You took my breath away. And it was so strange to come back and then realize that 5 years had gone by. For me, it was like we just picked the fight up where we left off. It wasn’t until after that I saw you were different. You were harder. More determined to keep fighting. More determined to be a pain in my ass and walk into the line of fire when all I wanted to do was make sure you were okay. Not because of Tony. But because you were the first person other than Steve to really make me feel like I was worth all of this, that I was with saving. The idea that you were going to be out there and possibly getting hurt I had to prevent that at all costs. I just wanted you protected and behind your computer at home. That wasn’t fair and I’m sorry for doing that to you. You’re strong and capable. Getting to know you over this past year, even if you were pissed off at me for most of it, I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I’m sorry that you had to lose Natasha for me to get my life back. I didn’t get to spend a lot of time with Nat- but she was an incredible person. I would give my life up in a second to bring her back.” You spun around so you could face him. Even in sky high heels he was looking down at you.
“Don’t say that! Please don’t ever say that.” He studied your tear filled eyes with a kind smile. He slowly put both hands on your cheeks and swiped the unshed tears from your eyes. “As much as it hurts, Natasha had to make that sacrifice to find peace. And loosing you would be just as hard.” His blue eyes sparkled down at you and you felt a swoop in your stomach. He stroked your cheek with his non-metal hand before he dropped them to his side. He watched you take a deep breath and visibly relax.
“I haven’t talked about Natasha much. It just makes me so sad that she’s not here with us today. That she’s not here celebrating our victory. I think not talking about her has made it harder to heal.”
“Any time you want to talk, I’m here to listen.”
“And I will. But not now. This is supposed to be a party.” You smiled up at him, he was impossibly close.
“Well the 3/4 of that champagne bottle you drank will make this a real party for you in a few minutes when it hits you. You tipped your head back and laughed. “There it is.” He said it in a whisper. You have him a questioning look. “My favorite laugh.” He was making you blush again. This must have been what he was like before the war and it definitely wasn’t in your imagination. The flirting from the past few days was actually flirting. You weren’t sure what made him decide to be so obvious about it, but you didn’t care. “If no one else has told you, you look incredible tonight.” You were clad in a black strapless sweetheart neckline dress with a sequined bodice and jewel embellishments down the tulle skirt.
“You clean up pretty nicely yourself. I like the hair cut by the way.”
“It was time to get rid of the last thing that reminded me of The Winter Soldier...well other than the scary arm.”
“The arm isn’t scary.”
“No? Some of the looks I get say otherwise.”
“No. The metal arm is actually pretty sexy.” You didn’t even think before you said it. He had a smirk plastered to his face and this time you made yourself blush.
“You think I’m sexy?”
“I said the arm was sexy.” He stepped closer so you were leaning against the high railing again, his arms on either side of you caging you in again. You felt the tip of his nose run across your shoulder and up your neck as he whispered in your ear.
“You’re going to be the death of me, you know that?” The two of you had been dancing around each other for the last year, neither brave enough to make the next move. “If it wasn’t obvious by now, I have feelings for you. Big ones. The only question is, do you feel the same?”
“Do you really have to ask? Of course I do.” You felt his lips press against your shoulder and then your neck and it was like someone sucked the air out of you. He placed his hand in the side of your face and looked into your eyes for a moment and then put you out of your misery by pressing his lips to yours. It was like the missing piece had finally been put in its place. As you gripped his shoulders to deepen the kiss you heard someone clear their throat.
“Gross. Get a room.” Sam’s teasing voice rang out through the air. Bucky groaned and dropped his head as you peered around him to look at Sam. “Listen, this is your party Stark, you better get in there before someone else comes out here looking for you. Last thing we need is a reporter snapping a picture of this and ruining everyone’s breakfast tomorrow.”
“Yeah yeah we’re coming.” Bucky’s voice was laced with irritation. When Sam had retreated back inside you cupped both sides of Bucky’s face and pressed your lips to his again.
“Come dance with me. I’ve heard you’ve got some moves.”
“They May be outdated sweetheart.” You grabbed the bottle of champagne and downed the rest of it and then took Bucky’s hand and pulled him towards the entrance.
***
“You okay? I mean you seem okay now, but I know you’re good at hiding it.” You were standing with Steve side by side at the bar. The bar that Nat would often mix drinks at during one of the many party’s your father would throw. Bucky had excused himself to go dig out more of Thor’s Asgardian liquor for him and Steve. You were pleasantly buzzed if not a little bit drunk. Your face hurt from laughing. You had spent the evening dancing with Bucky, Sam and Sam’s date. She worked for you at Stark Industries in research and development. You had introduced her and Sam a few months ago and they, as you knew they would hit it off. She was funny like Sam but tough enough to not take his shit. He needed someone to keep him in line.
“I really am Steve. I promise. It just hit me hard when I was standing up there. Bucky, he.-“ Steve grinned and cut you off.
“It’s about time. I’ve watched the two of you tip toe around liking each other since he joined us. There’s a reason you get so angry with him.” You gave him your infamous eye narrow and lip pursed expression. “Y/N- even your father knew. He encouraged Bucky to go to you.” Your eyes widened.
“He did?!” You knew Tony had let go of what happened but you never would have expected him to be okay with you having any sort of romantic relationship with James Buchanan Barnes...let alone encourage it.”
“He wants you to be happy. He’s happy. After everything that has happened he knows how important it is to say how you feel. He wants you to have what he has. He sees how Buck looks at you, how you look at him. How you talk about him. He’d never deny you that.” You looked over at your father and Pepper dancing and felt your heart swell for him. Your attention was drawn back when you heard Bucky set a glass down in front of Steve.
“God that smells like turpentine” you scrunched your nose in disgust.
“Well sweetheart not all of us can still be light weights.” Bucky grinned at you. Steve excused himself to head over to Sharon. You were happy that he seemed to find some happiness after everything. He had thought about going back and staying with Peggy. But creating a new timeline could have consequences. Plus the idea of leaving Bucky behind what inconceivable. You watched as Bucky downed his drink and shuddered a little bit. You both laughed and then he put his hand out as a slow song started playing over the crowd. You placed your hand in his and led him lead you to the dance floor. His one hand found the small of your back and pulled you flush against him while your other hand was still in his. You placed your free hand on the back of his neck, enjoying the feeling of his freshly buzzed hair. He kissed you lightly and you enjoyed being so close to him. If anyone would have told you this was how you would spend your night, you would have laughed at them.
“So my father gave you his blessing I hear?” Bucky let out a throaty laugh.
“And then threatened my life if I ever hurt you. He said he still has a suit.” You laughed and rolled your eyes.
“That sounds like my father. I’m glad he did. I’ve been hoping you’d make a move for a long time.”
“You could have made a move on me you know.”
“True- but you’re old. I didn’t want to offend your old fashioned ways.”
“You wound me.” You gave Bucky a grin.
“Speaking of old fashioned...your dance moves are pretty nice.”
“Oh yeah?” He flirted. Before you could respond, gun shots rang through the air and a group of men bounded in the room with semi-automatic weapons.”
“That’s the leader of the drug ring. Samuel O’Brien.” You were wide eyed and pulled away from Bucky. Samuel narrowed his eyes at you.
“So I assume it’s you and your friends that took want was mine. Now, I’ll take what is yours.” You watched as his eyes locked on your fathers. Before Bucky could stop you, you ran towards your father and pushed him out of the way as a bullet sank into your abdomen as the both of you crashed to the ground. Your ears were ringing and it seemed like everything was moving in slow motion.
“Dammit Y/N! You shouldn’t have done that!” Tony cried out as he pulled his jacket off to put pressure on the bullet. You couldn’t speak. You locked eyes with your father for a moment and then everything faded to black.
***
You felt pain, white hot searing pain. Your eye lids felt like they weighed a thousand pounds as you struggled to open them. As the white room came into focus you heard the steady beeping of a hospital monitor.
“Y/N?!” You slowly glanced to your right and saw the worried looks of your father and Steve Rogers. Your father had jumped up and was fussing over you and you groaned. “What? What is it? What hurts?”
“Everything.” You saw Steve reach over and click a button on your IV.
“Thank God you woke up.” Tony ran his hand over your head and kissed your forehead. You started to feel fuzzy again and felt yourself slowly slip from consciousness from the pain meds Steve had sent into your veins.
You didn’t know how long you had been out for as you slowly blinked your eyes open again. You felt the heat of someone’s arm next to yours. When you looked to the side there sat James Buchanan Barnes with his head resting on his arms. You picked your hand up and slowly ran your fingers through his hair. It took him a moment to wake up. He slowly picked his head up and gave you a sleep smile.
“Hey.” You whispered.
“Hey yourself.” He sat up and pulled his chair closer and took your hand. “Any pain.” You shook your head no. “Good, I mean they have you pretty drugged. Jesus you scared the shit out of me. I can’t believe you did that.”
“He’s my dad.” Was all you could say. “Did you get him?”
“Yes. We got every damn one of them.”
“How long?”
“You’ve been unconscious for almost two weeks. Most of it was medically induced. There was a lot of damage and internal bleeding. They tapered you’re meds down and it took two more days for you to wake up. We thought we were going to lose you. I thought I lost you and I just finally got you. Not that you belong to me.” Bucky sighed and stopped talking.
“You didn’t lose me. And if you’ll have me, I’d love to belong to you.” He pulled your hand to his mouth and kissed it.
“I love you Y/N...I think I have for a long time. I don’t know what I would have done if you didn’t pull through.” His voice caught with emotion.
“Hey- Bucky- I’m not going anywhere. I love you too.” He wiped a tear that slipped from your eye. He stood up and leaned over to place an gentle kiss on your lips. Your recovery would be tough, but you would get through it with Bucky by your side.

SALEM - Ch. 11
SAVED WORK
Summary: In all the centuries of your existence, you had never been dragged out of hiding by another god, put in a superhero team and forced to save the universe. But it seems your luck has run out.
_____________
***
You could feel Loki’s hand tense on your shoulder. Moros raised his axe and Loki pulled you backward out of his range.
Loki stepped in front of you, attacking Moros before he could lift his weapon out of the ground. He swung again and Loki dodged his attack. You could feel the air from Moros’ swing hit your back. Rather than making the intense heat any better, all it did was make you nervous.
Loki did his best to get a few slashes in, but Moros was at least two feet taller than him, maybe three? Loki kept gripping his side. He was clearly trying to be as subtle as possible, but it wasn’t working.
Moros turned toward you and swung at your shoulder. You leaned back took a few steps towards Loki. Moros didn’t hesitate to swing his axe into your side. You held out your staff, blocking the blow. The metal of your weapons scraped against each other, letting out an ear-piercing screech noise.
You pushed back on Moros’ axe and swung at him. The blade of your staff collided with his shoulder, allowing black blood to ooze out before quickly sealing shut.
For all of three seconds, you wondered if you could win this battle. The sinking feeling in your stomach told you the answer was no, you’d end up dying a gruesome death in the middle of space with your (ex) boyfriend. But the optimist in you also said no, just without all the death stuff.
Loki was only using defense now, choosing to block Moros from hitting you while you got lost in your thoughts. Loki made a small attempt to swing at Moros’ back while he was turned towards you. The knife grazed Moros slightly, leaving him more annoyed than injured. Moros shoved you back, and you gripped the ground, doing your best to hold steady and get back on your feet.
Moros laughed. The echoes of his voice bounced off the walls and through your skull. Embedding itself in your thoughts like some kind of earworm.
“It’ll be fun.” He said. “Watching you die, that is.”
You rolled your eyes. “Well, aren’t you cheery.”
You saw his hand pull back and cover itself with a cloud of dark smoke, much like yours. He was scarier though. While yours reminded you of a dark, foggy night, his reminded you of a building on fire. The type that came with destruction and chaos. The type that burned people away to nothing but ashes. His swing was at Loki’s bad side, and you were certain it would hurt like hell for him.
Without thinking, you had already shoved Loki out of the way and done your best to duck away from the impending blow. It didn’t hit you as directly as it would’ve hit Loki, but the smoke itself was enough to send you barreling over a nearby hill.
After a second of coughing, you propped yourself up on your elbows. Dust was everywhere and the pain throughout your body made you realize you had broken a few rocks on your way down. And maybe a bone or two?
You caught your bearings in time to see Loki arrive next to you. You could hear Moros in the background, mumbling about how he would destroy hell itself. That was enough to completely shake you from whatever daze you were in. Loki helped you stand as Moros walked away, past the hill to something in the distance.
“What is he doing?” Loki asked, still holding on to you.
“I have no idea. It’s been a while since I’ve been here. I don’t really have this place mapped out.”
“Any ideas then?” He said, brushing some dust off his shoulder.
“I don’t know.” You shook your head a bit, thinking through your options. You could always leave now with the tesseract? But that means you accomplished nothing. You could keep fighting? But with all the effort you’re putting out, it was like Moros wasn’t even trying. You were sure to lose. “Honestly, I’m just not sure what we can do? I don’t think we’re going to win.”
Loki let out a small sigh. He wiped off some of the blood sliding down his torso. “Especially not with a wound like that. We need to leave.”
Loki looked disappointed with this idea. “We came all this way. Are you intending to go home empty-handed?” He asked with a slight accusatory response.
You scoffed a bit. “No, but what can we do? We barely have an idea of what he’s going to do, we don’t know where he went, and we’re going to lose this fight. But I’d rather not die too, Loki.”
Just then, you felt the ground shake. It threw you a bit off-balance, making you stumble over your own foot. Loki held your shoulders, keep you and him steady as he leaned on you slightly.
“Whatever your thoughts may be,” Loki started, “I don’t think we have much time to do anything about them.” You nodded, taking a few cautious steps forward. The dust clouded around your feet and another rumble shook the floor. It threw you off balance again, but you were more prepared this time. You fixed your footing quickly.
“Loki,” you said. “I know we haven’t exactly sat down and had a heart to heart since you got here.” He nodded and opened his mouth slightly. Still, no words came out so you assumed it was safe to continue speaking. “But I do miss you. Your stories of Asgard or Thor. How much you enjoyed the sunsets on Earth. I miss those times.” A small smile melted across his face. It made him look so different than he had just moments ago.
“Me too.” He started. “I miss when you were mortal. When you appreciate all the little things. Now it’s all planning and fighting. Then it was long, sunny days and misty rain.” You laughed a bit. Truthfully, you hadn’t quite noticed. Maybe you did rush past the little things now.
The ground shook again, and this time you could still feel soft vibrations under your feet.“Sometimes I do miss my town. But that was hundreds of years ago. Earth has changed. It’s—”
“Gotten worse?” Loki said, quickly interrupting you.
“I suppose.” You resigned.
“They killed you.” He started. “Well, they attempted. They were going to burn you. Burn you alive. You and your friend. Those mortals. They had to have known they were just… murdering innocents.”
You scoffed a bit, “From what I’ve heard, you aren’t one to talk, are you?”
Loki’s face fell. “That wasn’t all my fault, you—”
You shook your head. Was he really going to play that card? You heard about Thanos. What he did. But somewhere along the line, Loki’s fondness for Earth’s sunsets and rain fell away. It wasn’t all the mad Titan.
“Don’t say that it wasn’t you, Loki. I know you didn’t have a choice, but there had to be some part of you that wanted to destroy the place. You had to have realized that if you just told the Avengers, things might’ve gone differently.”
His head shook slowly. His hands came up to meet your face and he stared at you. “I know.” His hands felt cool against your face and you could see him lean in slightly. You took a small step back.
“Now isn’t the time.” You said sternly. You turned away from him and walked in the direction Moros went. You could hear him sigh slightly. You almost turned around.
Almost.
The ground shook again, more violently this time and a rock came crashing down next to you, sending you off balance. You waved your hands in front of your face, trying to clear out the thick cloud of dust around your face. Once you were over the hill, you could see Moros in the distance. He was repeatedly raising his axe then swinging it into the side of a building.
Considering the fact that there are limited buildings in hell, that was probably your mother’s house. Not good.
“He’s destroying her house.” Your voice came out as more of a whisper. Aside from the fact that he was quietly literally tearing your Mother’s house to pieces, your Mother’s house was a lot more important than that.
“Who’s house?” You heard Loki say from behind you.
“My mother’s.” You whispered. You walked towards him again, speeding up slightly. The ground shook almost constantly, making it harder to keep your balance.
“This may seem rude, but I think we may have more important things to do.”
You let out a small sigh, “No. My mother, and a few other gods, keep this place together. That house is like a support beam or a load-bearing wall. Try and break one—”
“The whole place crashes down.”
Another tremor shook the area sending more rocks down around you. You and Loki jumped out of the way of the last one, sending yourselves forward.
“Y/n, I know this may seem contradictory, but I think we should leave.”
Your head whipped around to Loki. “What? We came all this way, you just want to leave?”
He nodded slowly. “Well, we can’t be of any help if we’re dead.”
“Then we wasted all this time. Loki, I’m not going home. We don’t even know what his plan is here. We can’t just leave. Whatever he’s doing? It’s not good. You can’t honestly expect me to walk away, can you?”
His response was slow. His shoulders fell and he swayed slightly with the crashing of rocks near you two.
“I understand. But we still have the Avengers. Perhaps we should go back. Escape with our lives and tell the team what we learned.”
“And what did we learn?” You turned to face him. “My sister is dead. My brother is trying to destroy something and at this rate, Tartarus will probably fall to pieces. We can do something about that.”
Loki walked forward a bit, avoiding the newly formed pebbles beneath his feet. The rocks beneath your own were making every step uncomfortable. “Not like this. Not with hell collapsing in on us. We need to leave.”
You scoffed, “Then maybe you should leave.”
Loki looked hurt. Admittedly, that was much harsher than you meant it to be. But if he was this passionate about it… maybe he should?
“I’m not leaving. Not again.”
“Loki. I think your right. The Avengers would be able to win this fight. But we don’t know anything that can help them right now. So you need to leave. I can injure him at least. Go. Warn them.”
“I’ll repeat myself. I’m not leaving.”
You stepped a bit closer to him, “Yes. You are.” You reached behind you and leaned forward at the same time. Planting a small kiss on his lips you shoved the tesseract into his hands at the last moment, watching him teleport away as another rock fell from above you.

The picture above shows 25 confirmed MCU cast members who will be reprising their roles for the Disney Plus animated series depicting various what if scenarios throughout the cinematic history.
“What If: Peggy Carter was given the super Soldier Serum?” has already been confirmed. Based on the list given we can assume that Captain America: The First Avenger alums will be Dominic Cooper as Howard Stark, Stanley Tucci as Dr Erskine, and Neal McDonough as Dum Dum Doogan. There is a comic with this storyline but based on the cast unless Red Skull is the big bad maybe Toby Jones goes full MODOK?
“What If: Killmonger’s uprising was a success and he remained King of Wakanda?” Kinda feels like a glorified YouTube’s How It Should Have Ended... but mainly I believe it’s definitely more like fan service or plain fan fiction as Hayley Atwell’s Peggy Carter and Michael B Jordan’s Erik Killmonger definitely have strong followings. But here there is a story to tell. Wakanda could succeed in a world take over and would Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa see his side or continue to become a freedom fighter?
“What If: Captain America was never found?” Agents of SHIELD already did a phenomenal “What If: Hydra Succeeded in Captain America: The Winter Soldier” storyline where they were Agents of Hydra and a secret resistance. But if Cap was never un-iced does that mean there’s still no one willing to fight for the price of freedom? Enter Sam Jackson as Nick Fury and Jeremy Renner as Agent Barton, Hawkeye. After Avengers (2012) Barton simply disappeared until Avengers: Age of Ultron. I say that should there have not been a Steve Rogers that Fury would have went to Barton who he obviously trusted enough to allow him a sanctuary home off the records, to help him stop this internal takeover. Sebastian Stan would return as the Winter Soldier and I think Toby Jones returns here as computer Arnim Zola.
“What If: Kurt was Ant-Man instead of Scott Lang?” Hear me out because I find this one kinda interesting. David Dastmalchian’s Kurt is not only a professional heist man himself but he’s also a brainiac like Scott where it was him who hacked and disabled the laser grid. Michael Douglas returning as Hank Pym originally chose Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang because he was brilliant and a crook so skilled yet expendable. But he wasn’t expendable after all! He has a kid that he loves and wants to turn away from crime in order to be with. So he could effectively be the middleman between Hank and Kurt in place for Janet Van Dyne to help whip him into hero shape.
“What If: The Guardians of Galaxy were never a thing?” When a was set into motion originally Karen Gillan’s Nebula not Gamora was assigned to get the orb from Xandar. It could be assumed that Nebula wouldn’t have hesitated to kill Peter Quill in doing so. But this would obviously bring her a whole lot of problems from Michael Rooker’s Yondu Udonta and his Ravagers like Sean Gunn’s Kraglin and... Chris Sullivan’s Taserface? Maybe Nebula might turn on Thanos so then Djimon Hounsou’s Korvath turns on Ronan and then Taserface turns on Yondu forming Queen Nebula and the Boys.
“What If: Jane Foster found Mjolnir before finding Thor?” Again it is HUGE that Natalie Portman is returning to the MCU and of course it’s because the prospect of the damsel but brilliant Jane Foster becoming her own hero. I believe that gets exploited and she becomes Thor earlier in the timeline here wherein her research she finds Mjolnir before Thor and even finds it before SHIELD. Consider that young arrogant Chris Hemsworth as Thor might not have taken too kindly to this blasphemy of his precious Hammer and might even evoke the help of his God of Mischief brother Tom Hiddleston as Loki to help get it back. This actually is less in the vain of a Shakespearean love triangle as much as an odd couple of brothers trying to best an OP chick that one of them or both end up falling for. It could be what Portman’s forgettable Your Highness was trying to be.
“What If: Planet Hulk Remastered” This one excites me the most! Mark Ruffalo may very well never get a solo Hulk film but what about a featured episode? I say simply reboot the old Planet Hulk (2010) animated film but with Ruffalo, Taika Waititi returning as Korg, and Jeff Goldblum returning as himself The Grandmaster. They don’t need no stinkin’ Asgardians for a revolution just enough pamphlets!
“What If: Thanos was truly inevitable?” Josh Brolin to return again as the Mad Titan would need to be for a just reason. He retains the Gauntlet and resets the universe to his own making only to find that any universe he makes might continue to resist him. Maybe greater powers might come to judge him for his playing god. Either way this will be an opportunity for Brolin to really expand this character either to his philosophy or to his madness which I am sure Brolin would love to do.

Tumblr media
This was it. She had survived twelve years in the court of Asgard among sharp eyes, silver tongues and vicious smiles. She had survived a year on the run with a rogue magic wielder under the threat of age-long imprisonment. She had survived five years in a vengeful universe where loss was life. But this was it.
Laying under a mountain of debris, a weight heavier than the knowledge that an army waited so far above. Y/N’s breath came slow and steady as she lay there, defeated. She had fought until her nails cracked and bled. She had been fighting since the moment she opened her eyes. They had all fought and they had won. So why did it feel like they were losing?
A shattering sound brought her attention to the collapsed support pillar pressed to her side. Something was bubbling over it, creeping slowly down the side and onto her face. Water.
The liquid spluttered between the cracked debris around her. Panic rose within her as she tried to keep her gaze on the starlit sky above. Staring at the quickly rising water would only bring her further into despair. So, she kept her eyes on those far away cosmos as she set her mind loose within itself. Her thoughts raced passed, searching for a plan or an ounce of energy to summon forth.
But that liquid was rising so very fast and much of her power had been sapped during the blast. The hasty magical shields she’d thrown around the Avenger’s hadn’t exactly been her best work. Frigga would have scolded her for being so careless, spells of that size took time to put into place properly – time she had not had, so she had instead paid with copious amounts of energy.
“Oh Gods,” Y/N whimpered, water spluttering from where it had begun to cover her face. “Help! Oh, Gods. Oh, Gods. Help! Please! Дядя(----)! Anyone!”
Something crackled behind her head, a muffled voice emitting from it. Her com. It had slipped out of her ear when her helmet had been ripped off in the blast. If she could just get her hands on it, she could call for help. Or she could grasp the vial around her neck – where she had stored power for times just like these. If she could just free her hands…
Y/N cried out; part of the building that pressed against her chest shuddered. It groaned at her movement and for a tense moment, she thought the entire thing was about to collapse on her. Another shuddering sob tore from her throat.
She had survived everything, only to die here while the last of her family was slaughtered by their greatest foe. Loki and Natasha had fought to give her a life that she could truly love. And here she was, a mess under the weight of the world.
Had her parents ever faltered? Had they ever wondered what it would feel like to just exhale and let that weight crush them? When Loki had been fighting to be a worthy king or lying through his teeth to a mad titan, had he wondered why? Why fight? When Natasha had been forced to fight her family or watch them turn to dust around her, had she wondered why? Why get back up?
Maybe. Perhaps just for a moment but… Natasha had gotten back up, she had flipped onto her feet, brushed bloodied knuckles against tattered clothes and stood her ground. Loki had kept fighting, he had summoned his daggers, gave a blood-stained grin and leapt willingly into the abyss without a fear in the world. So, she would too.
Eyes set on the heavens she summoned energy that should not have been there. She tore through the exhaustion, sending adrenaline coursing through her veins. With a final cry of defiance, she shoved, undiluted Elemental power mixed with sheer force of will. The ground around her quaked and then – eyes shining bright gold – she threw the building off of herself.
She threw herself into the air summoning the mystic force beneath her feet. For a moment she stopped and stared hovering over the ruins of her home, looking out across the vast army before her. Demonic foot soldiers crawling with their backward limbs, leviathans swimming toward her, beasts staggering across the shattered remains of the facility.
And then her eyes turned upon the lone man staring it all down. She watched unnoticed as great portals of brilliant gold sprung to life, as men and women marched through. As warriors gathered behind their leaders. She watched as Avengers rallied to do what they did best; to be the heroes that the world needed.
“Yibame-be!” The cry echoed from one portal in particular. It rolled over the others; a rallying song louder than any other Y/N had ever heard. But then the voices faded, and another took up its own call.
“For Loki!” The rough voice of the God of Thunder yelled from wherever he had staggered up from. He already looked brutalized, a smear of blood coating his breastplate and hair.
Y/N didn’t hesitate as she gave her own voice to the chant, “For Natasha!”
A defiant yell that exceeded even the cries of Wakanda’s people, carried to the opposing army. With a few quick bounds on her Vaulting Boots, Y/N found herself among her people. Asgardians who had been dragged down just as many times as her, stood ready. Thor landed heavily beside the girl, nodding once to his people and the valiant Valkyrie that lead the charge.
Raising vanishing daggers, magic axes, swords of every build and makeshift weapons they gave another defiant roar, “FOR ASGARD!”
Y/N watched in awe as they rallied around her, as they cried their furious defiance to the heavens. The ruins behind them crumbled as Scott freed Banner, Rocket, and Rhodey from under the facility. A hush unfolded across them as Steve raised his shattered shield.
“Avengers!” They held their breath as their Captain gave their foe a final moment to simply look upon them. To see the men and women they had angered, the heroes they had unknowingly created, the vengeance they had summoned. Captain America let Thanos and his armies look upon the Avengers as he spoke the word, they had all waited to hear for five long years, “Assemble.”

Mischief and Ice (Chapter 4)
Tumblr media
Synopsis: Thanos’ cruel attempt to wipe out half of the universe failed and the titan is dead; but his actions came with grave consequences. Tears and cracks in the universe, all across space and time formed wormholes within the nine realms and beyond, giving old enemies a vicious opportunity to strike again. When the Jötuns invade Earth and the Avengers assemble to defend the planet once again, it is the help of none other than the former war criminal Loki they are reliant upon to drive the icy warriors back to their own realm. But then the God of Mischief encounters a young woman abandoned in the cold—your body mangled and altered with Jötun blood, a lab rat to the Frost Giants. He decides to take you with him and nurse you back to health, unable to comprehend the confusing affection he begins to harbour for you.

A/N: Heyho there my lovelies! I hope you all had a lovely Easter with friends and family! Enjoy the new chapter! ♥
Quite obviously, you had never been on a quinjet before. Entering the metal monstrosity felt intimidating and frightening. Loki had tilted his head, eyeing you with a thoughtful gaze. You could tell he considered carrying you—how, you did not want to know.
His hand jerked slightly towards you, presumably, to wrap his fingers around your cold wrist yet again. Only the fraction of a second later, however, he refrained and instead simply tilted his head—a mute demand to get you moving. Swallowing thickly, you obeyed, feeling Loki’s scrutinising gaze staring daggers at your back all the while you were marching through the icy coldness of Iceland. Snow, nothing but snow. Nothing but frozen loneliness.
You never saw how Loki was ready and on high alert to catch you every time you stumbled, your naked feet leaving, compared to his big boots, only tiny footsteps on the white path before you, taking you to yet another different life. Would this one be kind to you? There was a chance, after all, that he would decide to kill you anyway, in the end. But then, when you had looked straight into his icy blue eyes, you had felt hope. Hope that maybe there was no reason for your life to end anytime soon.
Loki soon began to speak into a little ear piece device, connecting him to god knew who. He didn’t work alone then. He was here to put an end to the Frost Giant’s reign of terror, this much you aware of…
Your eyes widened, lips parting when you suddenly came face to face with the Avengers, waiting impatiently in front of the quinjet.
The Jötuns had told you about them, too, about the threat they posed to their cause. Ever since then, you had hoped, sincerely, that they would come to your rescue, to stop this icy madness from unfolding.
Swallowing thickly, you did as Loki motioned and climbed on board.
Now, you were not so sure. All but a few of them shot you suspicious and disgusted looks, meeting you with utter mistrust. You were not the only one though. The glares they greeted Loki with were equally cold—colder than the ice the Jötuns had frozen this country with.
Natasha Romanoff raised an eyebrow just as the engines hummed to life, sending a low rumble and vibrations through all the tons of metal. You took it as a good sign. Had they viewed you as a real threat, surely, they would have assassinated you already.
“Who is that?”
“She is harmless.” Loki snapped instead of answering her question. You gasped quietly when you felt his palm on the small of your back, slightly pushing you towards a dimly lit corner. Of course. He had never asked for your name. To him, you were a stranger, a nameless girl, an object, a whore, a…
Suppressing a sob, you sank down on the cushioned seat, hugging your knees to your chest in an instant. You were still shaking, even though the sudden warmth inside the quinjet almost had you moan pleasurably.
Loki joined you as soon as he was done watching you thoughtfully—and as soon as he had won the bitter stare down contest between him and the Russian assassin.
Seemingly out of nowhere, he conjured up a soft blanket, handing it to you mutely. Your mouth fell open. What would he expect in return for this gift? After your capture you had learned quickly that for every act of kindness, the Jötuns wished for something brutal in return. They had laughed upon making you throw up the few bites of edible food they had thrown at you before shoving their long and ice cold cocks down your throat until the hot tears streaming down your face warmed your cheeks.
Shuddering at the memory, you stared at the piece of fabric as if it were the cause of your suffering, as if you were scared of it. Eventually, you shook your head.
Loki frowned, taking a deep breath. He was struggling with his patience, struggling to keep his composure… to not beat you or ravish you, you had not quite figured out yet. It was probably both?
You flinched when he unfolded the blanket himself and wrapped it around your shoulders to keep you warm. It did little to stop your shivering but at the very least, you managed to bite your teeth so hard you tasted blood, bringing tears to your eyes.
“Loki? What’s going on?” Thor uttered quietly. Loki only shook his head.
“Later, brother. She is terrified as is.”
So this was Thor. The Thunderer, the God of Thunder, one of the greatest enemies of the Jötuns, the Giant slayer. He was handsome. Not like Loki—Loki was slender and elegant, mysterious and dark. Thor… Thor was the kind of man you would make a male Barbie doll of.
Blinking, you shook your head, focusing your thoughts back to what was important.
It couldn’t be, did he want nothing in return? The Jötuns had not hesitated to fuck you in front of their comrades, would Loki? You had spent so much time with them you hardly remembered what anyone else would do. What a civilised people would do.
But when Loki still didn’t make a move, you sobbed, both so relieved and so anxious you simply leaned into him, closing your eyes all the while crying silently. The God of Mischief remained silent.
After you had landed—a devastating and silent journey on which you had not dared to utter a single word—Loki brought you straight into one of the huge bathrooms in the compound, not leaving you any time to admire your new surroundings. The Avengers compound was huge, imposing.
“Hey, wait up, where are you taking her? Who the hell is this? We have to question her!” Tony bellowed. “Happy, follow them. I swear to God, Point Break, I will strangle him. What made you think he could work with us again?”
“Stark…” You did not hear the rest.
Happy was a broad security staff member, Tony’s personal bodyguard, as you learned mere moments after. This time, Loki did not hesitate to grab your arm, dragging you with him firmly but not violently. Once you had reached one of the bathrooms, he slammed the door shut in front of Happy’s face.
“Now… let’s have a proper look at you, shall we, little dove?” Little dove… you liked what he called you. It sounded… gentle, like he was caressing your presence. You almost snorted. The king of Jötunheim… caressing your presence.
You did not object when he undressed you, discarding those dirty clothes on your body and tossing them on the tiles carelessly.
Only a few months back you would have attempted to cover yourself, ashamed and too timid to let a stranger look at your naked skin in such a scrutinising manner. There was no need for it now, not anymore. Not after all the tortures, the rape, the experiments… you swallowed thickly, hot tears beginning to worsen your sight. There was no guarantee Loki would not do the same to you now, even after his tenderness on the quinjet. He was their king, after all. And as of now, you were his property.
Loki’s gaze was indeed scrutinising. Inch by inch, he examined your mangled body, noticing more of those familiar ridges and bluish veins on and under your skin before he almost automatically focused on your feminine charms. He blinked when he focused on your breasts, his palms itching as if they longed to find out what it would feel like to cup them and rub his thumbs over those hardened nipples of yours. He imagined trailing his fingers down your stomach and over your pubic mount only to disappear between your folds and feel your heat.
Heat… taking yet another deep breath, he forced himself to look back up.
You were still shaking—the blanket having indeed done little to nothing to fight the cold spreading within you. He was suspecting by now what they had done to you… the question was just… why.
Eventually, when his eyes locked with yours, he sensed fascination along with a hint of fear. You seemed to be in thought deeply, with both terror and strength sparkling in your eyes. That. That was what he had been looking for. Despite your empty and defeated expression, you were not broken beyond repair. The urge to mend you rose. He desperately wished to help you; and he knew now for certain that he would.
“Whatever is the matter, my dove?” He addressed you teasingly, if anything to diffuse the tension. Your eyes widened. Could you? Could you be so bolt and just… ask? He could tell you were pondering. Much to his own surprise, he was desperate to learn what it was.
“W-why a-are you n-not… y-you’re not b-blue, like t-them?” You stammered quietly.
Loki’s smirk was gentle. “Not always. But that is a long story… for another day.”
Nodding, you accepted his answer. You had been audacious enough to bring it up in the first place—there was no need to provoke him any further. Wondering whether ending up with the king of the Frost Giants was going to be worse than your initial, cruel fate you were yet to find out.
Ceasing to put up any resistance at all, you allowed the God of Mischief to approach and lift you up like a bride to heave you into the huge bathtub. He must have let his magic play. Not even Tony Stark could build a bathtub that filled so fast with hot and soothing water it would take only the blinking of an eye. He knew your delicate skin would be able to tolerate the high temperature as long as there was Jötun blood flowing through your veins.
You moaned when the water came in contact with your skin.
For at first, he had only focused on the ridges and the blue veins… now, he quietly examined the other marks the Frost Giants had left on you. There were bruises, blue, yellow and purple, all over you, a few cuts unable to heal properly, for you hissed when the water touched them… and of course, you were incredibly dirty too.
Loki sighed mutely as he summoned a black wash cloth and soaked it until it was dripping wet, the sounds of water drops meeting the surface repeatedly echoing through the warm room. He had manipulated the heat regulation. You would stop freezing now.
Then, carefully, he began to clean you, almost as if he feared to break you. He was worried that if he used his seidr on you to get the job done faster, he would overstrain your stricken body a little too much. All he would do was utter a little healing spell—just enough to heal at least the injuries that could be seen.
You didn’t even flinch when he moved between your legs, studying each of your reactions. You were used to it, after all. Your private parts were no longer private. They were property—and it did not matter whether it was the ice cold hand of a Jötun or Loki’s surprisingly warm hand sneaking between your thighs to touch you there.
The God of Mischief himself, however, suppressed a hiss, his cock twitching painfully in his tight leather trousers upon meeting your innocent gaze for the first time since he had put you in the bathtub. You were downright delicious, a female companion worthy of sharing his bed. Yet it was not only physical attraction that drew him to you, alluring and tempting. It was the fire in your eyes—not the red tint of colour, stains as red as blood reminding him of his own heritage. No… your fire was raging, and it was invisible. He would get into this pretty little head of yours, eventually. He would find out what moved you, what made you laugh, what made you cry… for thus far, all he knew was what made you tremble in fear.
He did not want to stop exploring your petals. You were unnaturally cold, down there, despite the hot water almost singeing his own skin. All he needed to do was clean you from the ruthlessness of his race and then retreat, tending to other parts of your body and yet… yet he lingered for longer than he intended to.
So why… why didn’t you wail and scream and beg him to stop?
“I will not ravish you. You will be safe with me, my little dove.” He murmured, distantly. Why did he say that? It was true, he did not plan to bury himself inside of you, not unless you begged him to… but were you really safe? He was the God of Lies. How could he mean it? By the Norns, he didn’t even know himself if he meant it.

Everyone got back to the tower on the same day. Just as Nat and Clint had finished settling in, Steve and Bruce had walked in with their luggage, when Tony and Shannon were in tow.
“Wow, you two are in a good mood,” Nat noted as she looked at the happy couple when she walked into the common area.
“Well,” Shannon started, holding Tony’s hand and looking at him, “actually we have some news.”
“Oh?” Natasha inquired with a perked, curious brow.
“We’re engaged!” she squealed, holding up her left hand, showing off the dazzling diamond.
“Wow, Stark! Way to pick ‘em!” Nat complimented as Steve shook Tony’s hand and congratulated him. Clint high fived Tony. Bruce pulled her into a hug before smiling to Tony.
“I know. Isn’t it amazing?” she asked, staring up at Tony with adoration in her eyes. “We have so much to do and plan!”
“I call dibs on maid of honor!” Natasha said quickly, which suddenly made Shannon realize she needed to share the news with you.
Shannon went silent for a moment, her face falling. This was it, wasn’t it? This was another huge milestone you wouldn’t be there for…
“Oh… I…” Natasha tried, but even a trained spy couldn’t correct this situation.
It dawned on Shannon that she didn’t share the news with you first, and now she felt extremely guilty. Was she somehow forgetting you?
“If you guys would excuse me for a moment, there’s something I need to do.” She hurried off to one of the elevators. Tony wanted to follow after her but knew where she was headed feeling slightly worried about how she was feeling.
“JARVIS, keep an eye on Shannon’s vitals for me,” he said, going to the couch to sit and think.
“Yes, sir.”
On the ride down she tried to think of a way to tell you the news. “How could I have forgotten to tell Y/N first?” she asked herself. “How do I tell my best friend I’m getting married and she won't be there to see me walk down the aisle?” Realizing this, her shoulders sagged as she finally arrived to the floor you were in.
Hearing the room doors open, you walked to the front of the cell to see Shannon walking over to the cell. Getting to see her again was something you had been looking forward to as you didnt get to at all the past month.
“Oh, hey, Shannon. You’re just in time to watch Loki make lunch. Well, attempt to,” you teased, glancing back to your beloved. “He has many great qualities, but cooking is not one of them.”
Loki glanced up at you and slightly narrowed his eyes into a glare. “Excuse me for being raised as royalty and never needing to make anything. I would think you’d be applauding my efforts,” he remarked.
You laughed and smiled, rolling your eyes as you turned back to Shannon, staring at her through the glass. “You want to come in? Well, why am I asking you? Not like I can exactly open the cell up,” you said with a laugh.
Nervously, she laughed too. “That's funny, Y/N/N. I’d love to see what his royal highness has in store for lunch today.” Trying to calm herself, she scanned her hand and was able to enter the cell.  “It's good to see you, Y/N. I’ve missed our video chats.” She hugged you tightly.
You held onto her, soaking up the feeling. “I missed you too. How was the vacation? I hope Tony spoiled you.”
She stopped for a moment glimpsing at her hand and seeing the ring while you weren't looking. “You won’t believe where Tony took me. I didn’t even know he had a little place there,” she said, stepping back a bit to look you in the eyes. “I’ll have to bring down my camera to show you the pictures and upload them to the holograms so you could see its beauty.” She had an unreadable face which bothered you a bit.
“Sounds good. Is everything okay? Did you and Tony fight or something?” you asked, concerned as you touched her arm slightly.
She looked back at the ring like it was burning a hole on her finger. “Yeah everything’s fine, we didn’t fight… it’s just--” She stopped not knowing how to say it. “It’s just a few days before leaving he… he asked me to marry him.” She twisted the ring on her finger, showing you the simple diamond on the band.
“Oh my god! Wow! This is utterly amazing!” you gushed, nearly yanking her hand towards you. “That Tony has some good taste. Why did you not want to tell me this?” you asked, realizing she was being hesitant.
She looked up at you with tears in her eyes. “Because I know I won’t be able to have you help me pick my dress and do all the things we’d planned if I ever got married.” She sobbed, collapsing a bit. You caught her and let her cry for a moment holding her close and realizing what that meant.
“Oh… Well… I might not be able to go out but I can... “ you wanted to offer something but you couldn’t. There was no internet down here, nothing to get online with, no way to look anything up, book any vendors, order anything. You were literally useless in this cell as Shannon’s best friend. Eventually, you sighed, just holding her close.
Thoughts sparked in your head on how your life had ever come to this. Shannon getting married was going to be one of the biggest days in her life, and you had always planned on being there. It was almost like a felony to not be there. And now… now you’d given that up, given up everything… for one man. Your eyes flashed to Loki who was pretending to still work on lunch, but you noticed he wasn’t really moving. His eyes were glued to the counter as he just stood there. More than likely, he was listening, realizing the same thing you just did:
The only reason you were here in the first place was because of him.
Before you could address that, though, you needed to comfort Shannon. “Shan, hun, it’s okay,” you tried as she slowly lifted herself back up, wiping her tears. “You can still send me pictures, we can video chat when you go try on dresses, you can bring down bridal magazines. I can still do my part. I can do whatever you need me to do.”
Tears still slipped down her cheeks. “It won't be the same, Y/N/N.” She hiccuped. “When did our lives become this complicated?” She seemed to ask herself rather than you.
JARVIS sent an alert to Tony that her heart rate had increased a bit.
“Show me where she is, Jarvis,” Tony requested immediately, the Al responded with showing what had caused her heart rate to increase and his heart broke for Shannon, hearing what was happening, he wanted to help but had no clue how.
“How am I supposed to plan my wedding when my maid of honor isn't out there?” she asked you, hearing the pain in her voice. “I wish I could take you out of here so we could do all those things but Tony would never agree to it.” She knew it was true he still distrusted you.
“He has every reason not to,” you agreed, the anger slightly sparking under your skin. “Look I know it’s not ideal, sweetie, but please don’t let my… life decisions hold you back from marrying the man of your dreams.”
She looked at you like a sad little puppy not knowing how she would do the planning without you. “We could try to plan this together?” She sounded unsure, you could see the gears working in her mind as to how you would still be able to help her. “We could probably look at things that could be brought down here for us to pick out.”
You nodded, eyeing her with concern. “Yeah, absolutely. I can do whatever you need. You can bring magazines or swatches or pictures. Whatever. I’ll be here, patiently waiting,” you assured.
She smiled up at you, a few tears still falling. “Thanks, Y/N/N. That means a lot.”
You wanted to ask her who was going to be her maid of honor instead. You felt it would probably be Nat, but who knew? Shannon knew a lot of people, and was loved by dozens. People were probably lining up to be by her side on her wedding day, meanwhile you were still here, shackled to the confines of this glass box.
You wanted to ask her all kinds of questions about an event that you couldn’t even witness in the flesh. But, that would only upset the both of you, so you didn’t mention any of it.
The two of you said your goodbyes for now, wishing her congratulations before she left. She said she had to unpack and check in with Fury about anything the team missed while they were gone.
You watched her disappear behind the huge metal doors, your back to Loki who remained quiet for a long time before finally quietly saying, “I’m sorry that you won’t be able to attend their wedding.”
You closed your eyes and slightly clenched your fist. “Are you?”
Loki frowned at your words as you spun to face him. “What?” he questioned, confused.
“Are you actually sorry, or are you just saying that? Is that just another one of your lies, your manipulations?”
“Y/N, what’s wrong with you?” he asked, his eyes narrowed on you.
“Wrong with me? I can’t be with my best friend on the best day of her life because of you.” You pointed at him. “Because you had fucking family issues.”
He took a step towards you, a frown etched in his features. “I didn’t ask you to jump into that portal after me, that was your doing.”
“We could’ve ran from Sanctuary when we got there. But you refused to fight, like a coward. Instead of telling Thanos to eat shit, you bowed down to him.”
“He’s a titan, Y/N,” Loki stressed, using both hands. “He isn’t exactly someone that can be reasoned with. I chose our lives over everything else. Or would you rather me pretend to be some hero and get us killed?”
“I would’ve rather had you use your magic or something, anything to get us out of that situation. Do you have any idea how much I’ve lost? Maybe you wanted to let go. Maybe you hated Odin and Thor and Frigga and the whole lot of Asgard. Maybe you felt you didn’t want to go on, but I had a family, a life, a career. Now what do I have? I have a lying bastard as a cell mate for the rest of my life.”
“You’re honestly angry with me? I never wanted you to jump in after me! That was your own moronic decision, do not put that burden on me! She can hardly be called your friend.”
You reeled back from his words. “How can you even say that? It’s because of her we aren’t in the worst prison in the nation, and we aren’t separated.”
“What exactly has she done for us? She knows we were threatened and brainwashed, and yet, she still has done nothing to get us out or plead our case. So she put some pretty pictures on the wall and broke you out for therapy, I don’t hold that as equivalent for stabbing me in the back and nearly killing you. She pushed you out of a window, remember?”
You clenched your fist. “She was only reacting to the monster I’d become. The monster you made me when you refused to get help. We could’ve gone to Thor. We could’ve told him the truth! But instead you had to make Earth your crown jewel. You had to own something! You were so desperate to prove yourself to a man who never thought you worthy in the first place. Why would anything you do now matter?” you challenged.
“You might want to watch your tongue.”
“Why? You going to stab me? You going to turn me over to Thanos?”
“As I recall, I took a good portion of torture onto myself, instead of letting them hurt you. So do not accuse me of not caring for your wellbeing. It was your doing that got you into this mess. Not mine.”
“I jumped after you because I loved you. I didn’t want to see you be alone,” you quietly reminded.
“And that’s exactly why sentiment and love will ruin people. At the end of the day, they’ll die for someone,” Loki remarked coldly.
“So that’s it then, I shouldn’t have jumped in after you? That this is all my fault?”
“This is all your fault!” Loki snapped, his voice raising. “You jumped after me. You failed to properly get Banner from Shannon. If you had just succeeded in your mission, we would’ve never been captured, and we might’ve stood a chance against Thanos. But as it stands now, all we had was your lack of conviction and pathetic excuse for power.”
“You wanna see power? I’ll show you power!” you responded, your fingertips sparking with purple energy.
“Oh, please. I would love to see you even try to--”
You threw your hand out, the purple energy shooting at him like a forcefield. It knocked into him, and threw him back into the counter. Loki quickly recovered from the blow, returning to an upright position quickly and gracefully. His eyes widened on you.
“I tell you the truth and this is how you respond? You violently attack me?” he asked darkly. “You claim to love me and yet you’re purposely trying to hurt me.”
“It’s not the truth. The truth is you were too afraid to actually be a man, and it’s because of that, that I lost everything I loved.”
A look of hurt and betrayal shadowed across Loki’s face. “Everything you loved?” he echoed. “So what was I then? Something to experiment on? Something that your curiosity got the better of? Now that you had to pay the price just for pretending to give a damn, you’re angry with me? You’re just like everyone else in my life. Using me for your own purpose. I was Thor’s doormat to walk all over, to look good in front of his friends and Odin. I was a relic for Odin to use when he felt the time would come. I was just a chess piece for Thanos. And to you I am nothing more than exotic creature you could pretend to care about for a while.”
“I nearly died for you,” you reminded, your breathing still labored from the attack.
“And I for you, but clearly that escapes your memory, so let me remind you,” he said, before stalking over to you and putting his cold hand on your head. His thumb hit your forehead and you gasped, not from the temperature, but from the memories.
The memories were yours. Of the worst time Loki was tortured in front of you. He was nearly completely on the ground, blood pouring from his ears, nose, and mouth as he looked at you. You begged Thanos to stop the horror, but all he said was, “Agree to be my winning token and I’ll spare his life… for now.”
You had finally agreed.
When Loki finally ripped his hand away from you, he was glaring at you with cold eyes. “Most of my torture could’ve been avoided if you’d just agreed to do his bidding. My pain came at your hands and your hands alone.”
“Me? You’re blaming me? I never asked you to take on the torturing.”
“And I never asked you to jump in after me, so it looks like we’re even. You gave up your life for me, and I gave up my health and sanity,” he retorted, dark mocking in his tone. “Quite the pair, aren’t we?”
You glared back at him, his words cutting into you, getting under your skin. “You don’t even realize how badly you’ve ruined my life do you? You might be fine with living your days out in this cell, but I’m not.”
“Well maybe I should’ve just let Thanos and The Other have at you then! Maybe then you’d have put more effort into trying to succeed at the mission.”
As he said his last word, you picked up a lamp, charged it with your energy, and hurled it at him, before he deflected it with his own magic easily, causing it to shatter against the glass wall.
“Did you ever think that it’s your fault my mother died? Hmm?” he asked, anger and patronizing in his voice. “If you had actually succeeded in your mission, we could be back on Asgard where I could’ve protected her!” His anger caused the glasses on the counter to fly off and hit the walls, making you dodge one of them.
“Maybe if you didn’t let go in the first place, and fall into an abyss, you could’ve been there yourself!” you retorted, charging another piece of furniture before ejecting it at him. Again, his reflexes were unparalleled and it simply crashed into tiny pieces on the glass wall..
Upstairs, the alarms for your cell were going off, tipping Tony off that there was an attempted breach at the cell wall.
“What the--?” he asked, glancing to the monitors. It stated that multiple objects had been thrown at the wall. He rolled his eyes and stopped what he was doing. “What the hell are they doing down there?” he muttered to himself before walking to the elevator. He reached your floor, stepped into the security hallway, then through the large metal doors. “Hey! What the hell is going on in here?” he asked, shouting over you two.
You turned to face him, ready to explain your side. “I’m just… upset. That’s all, Tony.”
“I’ve got all kinds of alarms going off upstairs. Are you two trying to bust out?” Tony asked, a little playfully.
You sighed and ran your hand through your hair. “No. I’m just… Our fight got out of hand, that’s all.”
“And what was this little lovers quarrel about?”
“I’m just… mad I can’t be there for Shannon, that’s all,” you answered.
“I want to feel sorry for you, Y/N/N, I really do. But see, you wouldn’t be in this mess if you had just come back to Earth and worked for me. You wouldn’t be in this cell, locked up with the poor child king who didn’t get enough hugs from his daddy. You could be upstairs with Shannon, helping to plan our wedding, be the maid of honor…”
Loki glared at Tony from far back in the cell.
At this, your anger and powers were triggered. One bad word about Loki, that’s all it took.
“Take it back,” you ordered, your demeanor changing, as you took another step toward the glass to get closer to him.
“Why? You know I’m right. It’s his fault you’re in this mess. And it pains me to see it. Do you know why? Because I have to watch the woman I love suffer, because you had to chase after some spoiled prince who wanted his dad’s job so bad he killed for it.”
“Tony, stop. Leave him out of this,” you tried, feeling the animal inside you grow. “This is between the two of us, not you.”
“Oh, but it is. Especially when you’re trashing the cell I built you, and breaking Shannon’s heart. So I have every right to make you feel as miserable about this as she is.” Tony broke eye contact with you and looked over to Loki. “Let me ask you something, do you feel good about this?”
“About what?” Loki snapped evenly, motionless as Tony got a better view of him.
“About all of this. Killing, destroying people’s lives. I mean, I think Shannon would kill me if I did half the shit you’ve pulled. And yet, you somehow manipulated Y/N here enough to love you. Now, you gotta tell me how you swung that.”
At that, you lunged at the glass, slamming into it. Your face fierce as you tried to get to Tony, pounding on the glass.
At that moment, Shannon was downstairs. JARVIS had informed her of the commotion going on and she made haste to get down to you. She walked in, seeing you like a wild animal, clawing to get out of the cell as Tony seemed to be taunting it on.
“Does it feel good to fuck with peoples lives? Tell me, do you do it for fun or is it just something that just happens to you?” Tony inquired, but Loki remained quiet.
You however, were going mad not being able to get to him. Your fists were slamming the glass, your lip curled up in disgust as you yelled incoherently at him.
Loki watched on in stunned horror. Of course, his face didn’t show that though. He was stoic as he watched you change. As he watched you turn into a ravenous bloodlusting goddess. He had done this to you. It was because of him that you were… entirely reprogrammed. You were no longer the innocent, sweet, and compassionate woman he’d met on Earth.
Loki had seen the way you moved before you fell into the portal and after the capture of New York. Before the fall you were pensive, quiet, but a sort of tamed whimsical to you. You mildly obsessed with your work and became animated over things you loved. You smiled constantly, but ever since you’d been in this cell… You’d been broken. Smiles, laughter, were few and far between. And that went for him and Shannon. It didn’t seem to matter who you were around, you were timid, on edge. You acted like an animal that had been beaten, mistreated, and abused. You didn’t even carry yourself with confidence.
He had noticed it. Sure, he’d seen the signs of you retreating into yourself. But that comes with isolation and loss of freedom… But it wasn’t until this moment where he really saw the true toll his affect had taken on you.
And now… this. You had never even raised your voice in your time on Asgard. And now, short of foaming mouth, you were a rabid animal.
“Y/N/N, back away from the glass before I do something to hurt you,” Tony warned in a tired voice.
But you didn’t hear anything. All you could hear was what Thanos had programmed in you -- your trigger, and now Tony was your target. So you were fighting with all your might to get to him.
“Don’t wanna listen? Alright.” He flipped up his watch before Shannon could stop him.
“Tony, no!” she begged, but she wasn’t quick enough. A powerful charge of voltage shocked through you, enough to send you flying into the wall, causing a dent in the drywall.
Loki feared for your life in that moment seeing as you hadn’t moved from where you landed in the wall. He rushed to your side at the same time that Shannon ran and quickly scanned her hand to enter the cell. Getting to your body faster than him, she began assessing your vitals and did an internal scan with her powers.
“There’s no internal damage but she will be unconscious for a good hour or two,” she told Loki without looking at him. She lifted your body up shocking both men because at 5’4 and curvy they didn’t believe her to be able to carry a person. That was one thing neither man knew about until that moment.
Loki followed Shannon all the way to the bedroom and saw how she held you with one arm while moving the covers to lay you down. He could see that he had made the mistake of believing that she was some mere mortal who only cared about herself, he could see how much you meant to her and that she was willing to jump in to make sure you were okay. He watched how carefully you were laid down and covered up making sure the strand of hair was moved from your eye.
“Thank you for making sure that she’s okay,” was all he could say.
“I didn’t do it for you, I did it for her because she’s my family and I would never let anything happen to her.” Loki could see she was worried for you but there was also anger in her eyes she left the room, and he curiously followed after her.
“What the fuck, Tony?” she said as she walked out of the cell. “Why did you turn on the shock system in the cell?” She was mad at him and Loki could see it in the way she walked up to him.
His face faltered seeing the anger in her eyes “Babe… she was acting irrational. She could have broken the glass and gotten out,” he tried to defend himself.
“It’s reinforced glass with a very thick plastic in between the layers of glass. It was built for Hulk. You and I both know she wouldn’t have gotten out,” she grounded out trying not to let the anger get to her. “So, what? The rational thing was to render her unconscious?” she asked, furious.
“Well… probably not but she was going to get herself hurt.” He knew that was no excuse.
“You do realize that she was acting that way because of the trigger, right?”
“What the hell triggered her?”
“You! Talking that way about Loki… Thanos did it to her, to keep her angry during the fight in New York. If he could keep people angry with Loki, and people negative about him, he could keep her insane… and dangerous.”
“Well how was I supposed to know?” he asked incredulously.
“Tony stop, you had no right to do any of this. Whether you knew or not, you just knocked my best friend unconscious.” She looked tired. He could tell she was trying hard not to let the anger get to her. “I really wasn’t expecting you to do something like this.” She sounded disappointed she walked away from the room not letting Tony say anything more. The day had gone from nearly perfect to horrible in a matter of a few hours.

It was hours later that Loki came in the bedroom. He contemplated not coming in at all. He was going to sleep on the couch, to give you space. But he had been pacing for hours since you’d been knocked out. He was incredibly worried about you. Shannon said you’d be fine, but you hadn’t moved for over seven hours, which had him concerned.
He quietly stepped into the bedroom and gently sat down on the edge of the bed. Silence flowed throughout the cell, as it often did, thanks to no access to music. A war was waging inside him on whether or not he should talk. On one hand, he didn’t want to wake you, but on the other, the words inside him were eating him alive.
He wrung his hands before diving in.
“I know it’s my fault we’re here… you don’t think I’m eaten alive with guilt every day?” He peered down at you, you were facing away from him, your eyes closed, your breathing even. He marveled at your soft hair. He smiled down at you. “I wish every day you never followed me into that portal. That this was mine alone to bear…”
Some more silence filled the space.
“As much as I love you, and cherish your love, if it meant your freedom and happiness I wish you had never even met me.”
A tear rolled down your cheek. You realized he didn’t think you were awake, and you didn’t often see a side of him so vulnerable, so you stayed quiet. Not to mention, you weren’t sure you were in a headspace to talk to Loki. All those things you said to him… did you even really feel that way? Were you just tired of being cooped up? Were you just throwing your anger in his face when really you were just mad at the situation?
“It was never Thor’s fault, or Odin’s… It was me. I was the failure. I couldn’t accept that, so I took it out on my family… The truth is, I never felt good enough, and I knew that… but I drug you down with me, and for that I am truly sorry. I never intended for you to be some sort of recompense for my shortcomings.”
Another tear rolled down your cheek before he spoke again.
“I just wanted you to know that, even if you didn’t hear it. I needed to admit that, at some point. You were right… It is my fault that we’re here, and I’m sorry for being the reason your life is ruined. The reason you can’t be with your friends and loved ones. If I could get you out of here without me, I would do whatever I could… I am so sorry, my love. I wish I could make this right.”
He leaned down and kissed the side of your head.
“I love you so much… And I don’t deserve you…”
You felt the bed shift and he stood up to leave.
“Don’t go,” was all you said.
He stilled for a moment before returning to the bed, where you rolled over and faced him, putting your arm around him.
“I’m sorry,” you quietly said, stroking his cheek.
He shook his head. “You don’t need to apologize.”
“I do. I shouldn’t take my frustrations out on you. It was my choice and mine alone to follow you into that portal. And even though I’ve lost everything… I would do it all over again for you.”
Loki half smiled. “As lovely as that is to hear, I’m not sure if I want to be the reason you hurt your loved ones.”
You shook your head. “You aren’t… That giant space grape was,” you assured. “That wasn’t you. We’re moving forward, all of us,” you said gently.
“I’m glad to hear that.”
You smiled sweetly at him before pulling him closer to you, and kissing him earnestly, a suggestion behind your kiss.

Lady Death: This is the second of three chapters I am uploading tonight as the finale of Asgardian Soldier. I worked for over a week to try and give our Loki the ending he deserved, so I hope you all enjoy!
WARNING: This story is based after Avengers Endgame and will contain some spoilers from the movie. Story also contains lemons, so feel free to make some lemonade ;D

Part 8 The Found
Originally, Loki dreaded the idea of sitting in the cramped schoolhouse with the children. After weeks of working with his hands, mending fences, and cleaning out the stables, he thought surely the children would be their own kind of headache.
Yet he was pleasantly surprised. Sif ran a rather tight ship, keeping the children both quiet and entertained with her lessons. She went over things such as letters, numbers, words, both Asgardian and Midgardian. While the other children listened intently, Loki noticed his friend Frig was reading another thick book he had hidden in his lap.
Meanwhile, Loki was tasked with sitting in the farthest corner, asked only to be still and keep to himself while class carried on. Frig turned every once in a while to offer a reassuring smile, but otherwise the god spent his time reading his new book.
It was about an hour after they came inside that the school’s front door flew open. Alarmed by the disruption, Loki jumped from his seat, readying himself to fight if need be.
Yet he relaxed at the sight of you breathless in the doorway. You huffed in and out while your eyes met his, fearful and begging, though he didn’t understand. About to ask what was wrong, a familiar child’s voice caught his ear.
“Mother?”
At the sound your heart leapt into your throat, your eyes immediately falling on your son sitting just a few chairs away from Loki.
“Mother?” you heard Loki repeat. His eyes went from you to Frig, brow creased while he connected the dots.
Your lips opened to speak, half expecting to scream but instead all that came was a short, choppy, “Out. Now.”
His piercing eyes never left yours as he came around to your side. Just as he passed you, he glanced back at Frig, who's face was scrunched in concern.
That’s when Loki realized it was he, and he alone, who didn’t know the truth.
Letting out a breath, he went outside.
“Mother,” Frig repeated, getting up from his seat, “May I…”
“Sit!” you commanded. Everyone in the schoolhouse landed on their bottoms, including Sif. “Continue with class, I’ll speak with you when you get home.”
On that note, you closed the door.
Loki’s stare was cold but he didn’t speak, his mind spiraling with what he just discovered.
“Valkyrie is in the stables,” you directed, “That’s where you’re working-”
“You had no intention of telling me, did you?”
Maintaining eye contact, you went on like he said nothing, “She’s in the stables, you know where that is, I trust you don’t need to be escorted.”
He stepped closer towards you, his eyes burning down into yours, his voice threatening. “No. I’m not going to the stables.”
“No?” you repeated, “You don’t get a choice, Loki, you’re going to have to work if you intend to stay here. We all pull our own weight-”
“I’m not saying I won’t work,” he took a step closer to you, “But what I am saying is that you're going to give me answers. I believe you owe me that much.” When you didn’t speak, he lowered his head. The fists he made at his side made you tense up but when he looked back up, you saw the pain so clearly it made your own heart ache. “I can’t stand this any longer, y/n, I have to know what's happened between us.”
“It’s complicated,” you said too quickly.
"Complicated…" he repeated, his face contorting like the word was sour. “Do you hear yourself, y/n? Complicated?” Loki’s anger was becoming apparent by the straight line of his lips and fire in his eyes. “What about this isn’t complicated! I’m from the past, you’re from the future, Thanos is gone, and Asgard is reduced to ash while her people struggle to get by!”
The rampage stopped when he regained control, closing his eyes tight while he realined himself.
“Why didn't you tell me we have a son?”
“We don't. I do.”
At that, Loki once again lost is temper, “Frig has MY blood in his veins! You act as if my mere existence is so painful for you, yet at some point you must have had love for me! So why do you hate?”
“Blood doesn't make a parent! Choices do, and I know who you are, Loki Odinson of Asgard. I know right now you are a version of yourself that is broken! I know that because I spent what felt like a lifetime trying to help put you back together only to fall to pieces myself.” Tears swelled in your eyes, but it was the truth. For every moment you had with Loki, there was a heartbreaking truth that you were never truly his goal. Something would always come between you, some new strive in his life. A throne. A kingdom. A titan. You weren’t his priority, and so now he could no longer be yours.
Frig came first.
And then your people.
You simply couldn’t afford to lose yourself to the fantasy that this was somehow meant to be.
“I loved you for so long and for mere glimpses I was allowed beautiful moments with you that I will cherish for a millennium,” you were finally able to say, “but I cannot go through it all again.”
“Is…” he hesitated bringing it up, but went on, “Is this about what happened in New York? Because that was not me, y/n, that was…”
You cut him off. “I know, Loki. I know it was Thanos, because I'm the one who figured it out. And then I begged you to admit it all to your father, but you refused, because of pride or hatred I don't know.” Your eyes grew colder, sharpening as you took a step towards the god of mischief. “And do you know how you thanked me for trying to help you? You made me a traitor of Asgard, a place I had spent my life preparing to serve. And then,” you closed the distance between you, but Loki didn't flinch even as you poked a finger into his chest, “And then you faked your death to take over Asgard, while I was on Midgard trying to drown the pain of what at that time was your second death! And then, I crash landed on a planet ruled by a lunatic when of course you just suddenly appeared! I believed you were dead for four years!” you cried out, shoving him back. "Three times, I have mourned your death, Loki! Three! And every time, it seems like you've come back just to break me down again!"
His voice came out small when he admitted, “You make me sound truly awful…”
His words froze you in place. As angry as you had become, it subsided enough for you to take a breath.
“No," you admitted." No, you didn't stay like that." Your tone softened, though you hadn't realized it. “We were battling on Asgard with these undead monsters when we were overwhelmed. I got injured, was bleeding so much I could hardly see anymore, yet somehow you managed to get us both out. I was unconscious for the worst of it but when I came to you were just… there. Sleeping beside me. You had been there waiting for me to wake up…” You choked up a little and cut the story short. "It was so perfect. You were so perfect…" You took in a breath, but didn't pick back up. Instead you looked into Loki's sorrowful face.
“May I at least know why you changed your mind? After everything that happened, you loved the version of Loki that died. I just…” he cleared his throat to keep his voice from cracking as he held back tears of his own, “What made you love him despite all of those travesties, when you can’t even give me a chance to love you having done none of it?”
At that, your jaw fell open, but nothing came out. It wasn't that you didn't realize you were holding things against him that your Loki had done, but it was the dryness in his words that stung. All this time you had been using the past to avoid getting close to him, afraid he would just repeat those mistakes.
It had never occured that this Loki may be different.
After some thought, you answered, “There's no specific reason. Something about him had shifted, as if he had finally become himself. After all those years he was simply my Asgardian prince again. He changed and so did I. We may not have had the time together that we wanted, but it was worth it because it gave me Frig. And if it wasn't for his sacrifice, the Asgardians would nothing more than midgardian folklore.”
"If he was capable of being who you needed him to be, why don't you believe I can?"
You closed your eyes to hold back unlashed tears. Seeing the face of the man you had to lose over and over and over again was too much to stand. It's why you avoided him all this time and why you tried your damndest to not talk to him.
"If you don't learn from the past,” you tried to argue, “Then you're doomed to repeat it…"
"But it's not my past, y/n. I will never experience what your Loki did. My life, My choices. I'm not influenced by what drove him." When you didn't respond, he asked, "What if I'm different?"
You looked up, tears still trying to fall. "I'm not strong enough to handle anymore heartbreak, Loki, and that's what loving you is. It's pain, it's loss, it's this never ending cycle of picking up my broken pieces. I cannot do it anymore, and I won't put Frig through it either."
"But..."
He didn't continue. For the first time ever, his silver tongue had nothing to say. You could see his apparent aggravation, the sheer agony of trying to convince you to give him a chance but being shot down at every turn. After a painful reality set in, he started, "I love you, y/n. I always have. I cannot begin to fathom a lifetime, a realm, or a version of me that wouldn't do what needed to be done in order to have you. You say I’m broken. You say I left you in pieces. If that’s the case, then don’t you think together we can create something whole?"
Suddenly, he wrapped his arms around your shoulders, pulling you into an embrace as he went on, "Y/n, if you would just give me a chance, I'll do whatever it takes to prove it to you, each and every day. Let me show you that I can be the man you deserve."
At that you lost control, letting the tears fall down your cheeks. You could feel him cupping the back of your head to nestle you against his chest as you sobbed.
“Y/n,” he whispered, but choked back whatever other comment he was going to make, instead squeezing you a bit tighter as he kissed the top of your head. "I swear on Valhalla, I just want to make you happy."
Your lips quivered as you struggled to wipe your face clean. It was infuriating enough that you were crying, but you weren't going to let him see. Lightly placing your hands on his chest, you pushed yourself off of him and out of his hold. "I think you should leave."
"Leave?" he echoed dumbly.
"Yes. Go find Valkyrie. She's in the stables." To keep your voice from shaking, you shot your words out and looked down. You couldn’t even bring yourself to meet his gaze.
At that, his brow furrowed, but he held whatever argument he was going to make in favor of the more passive aggressive, "Alright, y/n. If that's what you wish." Loki took a step back, gave a short bow and left to find Valkyrie. At the sight of him disappearing down the hilltop, you covered your mouth to stifle back your crying. Once you regained control over yourself, you turned back to face the schoolhouse.
"Frig," you whispered to yourself, feeling yet another piece of your heart break that much more. Taking a deep breath you headed back towards your house. Just as you got to the door, you changed your mind and headed down the path to the tavern.
This day was worth the loss of your sobriety.
*****
Valkyrie was already set up in the stables when the god of mischief slinked in.
“It didn’t go well, I take it?” When he didn’t answer, she pressed, “At least tell me you met him?”
“You knew,” he acknowledged, “You knew I’d meet Frig. That’s why you sent me.” Letting out an exasperated breath, he scoffed, “Was I the only person who didn’t know?”
Valkyrie turned to face Loki when she said, “He hasn’t stopped talking about you since you arrived.” She bent down to pick up a stack of hay for her pegasas as she added, “And I didn’t see y/n coming to her senses without a little nudge.”
“I’m afraid the effort was in vain. I don’t believe she intends to ever speak to me again.”
Valkyrie hesitated, looking back over her shoulder to him. She couldn't ignore the devastation in his face, notable shake in his words. “You really love her don’t you?”
Loki leaned back against the railing, not willing to meet her stare. “She’s just always been there. My childhood, my adolescence, while I was studying to be prince, she was there for me. She even joined the royal guard and I saw her every single day.” His head shook taking in this realization, “I thought we would be married. I thought we would be a family.” The realizations kept coming, pouring out of him like an unwritten play. “We were going to have this amazing life together, I had it all planned, we were so close.” He closed his eyes, tilting his head back so that it came against the rail. “I am such a fool.”
Stuck in his own self pity, he jumped when Valkyrie grabbed hold of his arm.
“If that’s how you feel, show her.”
“She won’t listen,” he pointed out, “I tried to tell her-”
“NO!” she yelled, her voice causing a stir amongst the animals. “You SHOW her! Y/n has proven she won’t listen, so you make her see.”
He thought she might as well have been speaking in rhymes with her vagueness, but Loki took a moment for himself to contemplate it.
How could he show you he wasn’t just here to hurt you?
How could he prove that he did, truly love you?
*****
You hadn’t been inside the tavern to drink since the celebration of Thanos’s defeat a year ago. When you set yourself up at the bar, you could feel the eyes of the regular drunkards watching their chief order a bottle of midgardian whiskey and a glass.
So encased in your own thoughts, you didn’t notice Korg take a seat at your side, setting his bug friend on the stool on the other side of him.
“Oh, hello, y/n, how are you?”
Glancing at him over the rim of your glass, you remembered he was now rooming with Loki. You let out a sigh, realizing nothing you did made the god of mischief go away.
“Hi Korg,” you offered, pouring yourself another glass while he accepted a beer bottle from the bartender.
The two of you sat in bizarre silence until he started, “So, Loki’s been living with me a while-”
“No offense,” you cut him off,” But if you have some issues with Loki, then take them up with Valkyrie. I am not his keeper.”
“Oh, right, okay then.”
The silence was even more stale before you finished your second glass.
Feeling him holding what he was originally going to say, you snapped, “Spit it out then. What about Loki?”
“Oh, well, it’s just that, our mutual friend, well the friend of our mutual friend, he’s not really my friend, he scares me a bit honestly, but he’s not a bad guy-”
“Out with it, Korg.”
“Oh, well, I know what’s going on between you is none of my business, but don’t you think you should, I don’t know, talk to him?”
You slowly turned to look Korg in the eye, certain he wasn’t brazen enough suggest such a thing. He looked more uncomfortable, shifting his eyes around to make sure others were there in case you flew off into a rage.
“Is that all?” you asked flat tone.
“Oh. um. Yes?”
“Thank you for your concern, I’ll think it over,” you answered, reaching over the bar for a brown bag to shove your bottle in. You went towards the door without another word.
“Oh, Ok. Good talk,” you heard him say, more to himself than you.
You walked home taking swallow after swallow from your bottle with every other step. Outside your front door, you were met by Sif and Frig. Quickly, you hid the bagged bottle behind your back.
“Y/n,” Sif scolded you through her stare, but you didn’t look at her. Instead, you were watching Frig.
“Are you mad at me, mother?” he asked, his voice as small as his form.
The question tugged at you, making you feel guilt over your selfishness. While trying to protect yourself from Loki, you had left Frig to deal with his feelings alone.
The shame humbled a smile onto your lips as you ran your fingers through his hair. “No, sweetie. You’ve done nothing wrong.”
“Does that mean you’re angry with father?”
You and Sif both stiffened at the question, not expecting it. “It’s just… complicated adult stuff.”
“It certainly is,” Sif affirmed, squeezing her nephew’s shoulder. “Why don’t you go get cleaned up for dinner? Your mother and I need to speak.”
His curious eyes went between you both before he nodded and went inside.
When the door closed, you expected Sif to raise her voice, to berate you, to guilt you for putting Frig through this.
Instead, she did something she had never done before.
She hugged you.
“I cannot fathom what you must be going through,” she admitted. “But know that I am here. Brunhilde is here. And,” she pulled back to look you in the eyes, “Loki is here. If that isn’t a sign from Valhalla that this was destined, then may Thor’s lightning strike me down.”
You closed your eyes. “Sif, I…”
“Y/n, stop being so hard headed. We are all grateful for what you’ve done for us here, but it’s time you do something for yourself. You have this incredible twist in fate that has given you something you shouldn’t have had to lose.”
It was such a revelation to hear from Sif, someone who had always detested Loki. To hear her encourage you was something you had never seen coming.
You hugged each other again before she left you with even more to think about.
“Frig, you called out as you went into the house, setting the whiskey on the kitchen counter, “Sweetie? What did you want for dinner?”
No answer.
“Frig?” you yelled towards his bedroom, “Frig!”
That's when you noticed something in your living room was missing.
Loki’s battle horns.
*****
Loki had been finished helping Valkyrie for half an hour before he finally started his way back towards his house. He smiled at the friendly faces he passed on the street, shaking hands with one couple that were thanking him for his help tending to their garden.
Though he was able to keep it together, deep down, he was falling apart.
Even after Valkyrie’s certainty that you would see differently, Loki honestly felt there was no more hope in rekindling the love the two of you shared.
“It’s over,” he told himself, “Y/n wants nothing more to do with me.”
It was hard to admit but it was the truth. As much as he wanted you, he couldn’t make you be with him.
It was becoming harder and harder to maintain the cheerful facade when he saw something strange out the corner of his eye.
Something familiar.
Something gold.
“Hey!” he roared, breaking into a full out run to catch up with the figure as it turned down an alleyway. Loki pursued, certain he must be so depressed he had crossed over into madness. He came to the mouth of the alley in time to see the horns bolt out the other side to a side street. “Stop!” he commanded, darting after it.
*****
You were absolutely furious with yourself for not speaking to Frig sooner. Knowing the way his mind worked, you should have seen he was struggling though he didn’t press you about it.
He was his father’s son, after all. Once his mind is set on something, he is hooked.
You had already taken to the streets, ducking in and out of shops down main street while calling out his name. Just when you were getting desperate enough to seek out Valkyrie, you caught sight of him coming out of an alleyway, the oversized helmet set on his brow, his hands holding onto the sides of the temples to balance the oddity.
In that moment, he looked so much like Loki it took your breath away.
“Why, hello, mother,” he gushed, taking a step back as though to prepare to run. “How’s dinner coming along?”
But before he could, another figure emerged from behind him, blocking his path.
“There you are!” Loki announced, taking hold of the horns and lifting them up, “Now what is thi-”
His eyes locked onto yours.
He looked down and saw the bright green gaze of Frig.
“Oh,” was all he managed. “Well, I’m a tad confused…”
While every nerve on your body was on edge, Frig simply smiled up at him.
“Actually, Mr. Loki, I was bringing this to you. I thought that since you were back, you would want to have it.” Frig’s eyes were just so bright as they looked up to Loki that for a minute, he didn’t know what to say.
Resorting his thoughts, the god grinned sweetly to the boy before kneeling in front of him. “Actually, I don’t much have use for a battle helmet lately,” he explained. “So, if it’s alright with you, I would feel much better if you kept an eye on it for me. You know, keep it safe.”
You saw Frig’s face light up in delight when Loki lowered the battle horns onto his head, and something inside of you turned like a switch.
“Would you like to come for dinner?” Loki and Frig but whipped their heads towards you, certain they had misheard. “I mean, it won’t be anything fancy, but if you would like-”
“I would love to have dinner with you,” he breathed out, standing up straight with a hand flat on Frig’s back.
The two of them walked a few paces behind you while your brain ran over what you were possibly going to say to him once you got to your home. Knots formed in your stomach as you opened the door and let them in, Loki hesitated at the door, locking eyes with you to get one final nod of approval before he entered. As you closed the door behind you, you watched Loki take in the sight of your modest little cottage, so plain and Midgardian compared to the Asgardian homes. But Loki was busy watching Frig as he went up to the mantle. He hopped onto the fireplace, clung to the sturdy block of wood that sat as your mantle, and set the helmet in the middle of your two broadswords.
“There's blood on those blades,” Loki noticed.
Frig exclaimed, “Mother cut Thanos in half!”
While Loki shot a surprised look in your direction, you corrected, “I cut his cheek,” you drew a line across your face with a finger, “Nearly got pummeled to get that little bit. But it was worth it.”
It was then that Frig grabbed hold of Loki and dragged him to his room to show him his various books and collectibles. You took the time to busy yourself in the kitchen, managing to cook up some vegetables and seared fish while you did all you could to keep a level head.
When the food was ready, you went to find them sitting cross legged in the floor. Loki was telling him a story you recognized from your youth, about a sweet love story of two birds finding each other after a lifetime apart. The boys came out and set themselves at the table as though this were just a normal routine. You ate quietly while the two of them went on and on about different things, one of which being Loki’s use of magic. With his obsession of all things Harry Potter and wizards, Frig was wide eyed at the idea that Loki knew spells himself.
They carried on while you cleared the table until, at last, it was time for bed.
“Please, mother,” he begged. But with one look, he knew it would be in vain. He scurried off to bed while Loki waited outside his bedroom, watching as you went in to tuck in the blankets. “Would it be alright if Mr. Loki tucked me in?”
The request left you speechless, but Loki was already at your side. “It would be my pleasure,” he told him, leaning down to tuck the folds of his blanket around his small body. “Goodnight, you clever boy.”
Frig flashed a proud grin as you added, “Too clever.”
You planted a kiss on his cheek before following Loki back out into the living room.
You stood in the hallway for a moment, watching as he made his way back up to the battle horns.
“I bet you looked ferocious,” he commented as you got closer. “I can only imagine you sparing with Thanos. It’s a fight I wish I could have witnessed.”
“I certainly didn’t feel ferocious when he threw me across the battlefield like a child’s ball.”
The two of you were quiet while you both tried to work through everything that had happened up till now.
It was Loki that spoke up first, offering up a simple, “Thank you.”
“It’s no trouble, I’m sure Korg isn’t much of a cook-”
“No,” he corrected, “For this. For letting me be here. For letting me talk to Frig. I know this hasn’t been easy…” His eyes met yours before going towards the helmet. “I know that I’m a part of him that’s hard to see, but,” his hand reached up to brush your hair back from your face, “But I’m not everything he was. My life isn’t taking the same path as his.I hope you can see that, y/n.”
“I know you’re not,” you admitted, taking a deep breath as you looked up at the helmet yourself. “And I have to stop treating you like it.”
Another silence fell between you while you searched for something to say.
Instead, you opted for something to do. “Would you like a drink?”
“I would love a drink,” he cooed, following you to the kitchen. You pulled out two glasses and poured the whiskey you brought home from the bar. After you handed him his glass, he held it out to you.
“To the future,” he cheered.
“To the past,” you retaliated. The glasses clinked in solidarity, your eyes locked while you took a drink.
You put the glass back on the table after a sip, but Loki finished his in one gulp.
“You drink like you’re nervous,” you pointed out.
“Not nervous, no.” He reached to pour more in his glass, topping yours off. "Mostly anxious."
The two of you shared a glance, feeling the rhythm of your heart pick up just by looking at him. You quickly turned away to take another gulp of liquid courage.
Loki opened his mouth to say something, but just then you both heard a sound come from Frig's bedroom. Instinctively you got to your feet, "Let me check on him," you excused yourself.
Alone, Loki also rose from his chair. "Now where is that stone?"
Frig had only called out because in his sleep he had a strange dream. He couldn't manage to tell you what it was about, only asking you to sit with him a moment longer until he finally fell back asleep. You pet his hair, lacing your fingers through his tresses as you tried to prepare to face Loki.
Gently setting his head out of your lap once you were sure he was out, you snuck out of the room and slowly closes the door. Taking a moment to regain yourself, you closed your eyes and took a deep breath.
Perhaps this was all a mistake, you wondered.
Debating on asking him to leave, you went back into the living room, just in time to see Loki standing in front of your mantle.
Though you expected to see him examining his helmet again, you realized that's not what he held. Your mouth opened, but you were stunned into silence as Loki turned around, the compartment inside the mantle open, the tesseract in his hand.
He held a hand out to you, "I promise this isn't what it looks like, I just-"
"Use it."
Loki's brow creased at your words, his eyes scanned you for reasoning.
"If that's what you really want," you allowed, willing to meet his eyes. "Then have it."
Loki swallowed the lump in his throat, looking down at the cube before staring back at you.
"I have something I have to do, y/n-"
"I don't care about details," you told him dryly, keeping eye contact with him. "Just. Go."
You could tell he was thinking hard, rolling thoughts around before biting down on his cheek, making his choice.
You watched him vanish with the space stone.
There was such a vast emptiness in your body that you wondered if you could die from shock.
He did it again, you thought. He used you for what he wanted.
Your thoughts were interrupted by the flash of the space stone reappearing with Loki, but something was different. The stone itself was inside of a golden case, while Loki was in his old Asgardian leather. “I haven’t been gone long have I?” Jaw dropped you watched as he nonchalantly reached out and took hold of your hand, “Come, y/n, I have something to show you.”
You didn't have the opportunity to dispute his offer before he used the stone again and you both vanished.
In a split second, you were transported somewhere foreign yet familiar. The sky was a clear blue and rather than the chill of your home in Midgard, you felt the warmth of the sun. At your feet, tall grass brushed against you as a breeze swept over the land. Looking out, you recognized the hilltop you stood on, the golden palace that sat out in the distance, the ocean who’s waves washed up on along the beaches.
You were once again on the hilltop in Asgard, the same places you visited in your youth and the last place you spoke with Loki through his illusion.
But this was no illusion.
This was a reality, just not yours.
Breathless your head swiveled around while you took in the sight of your old home world, glowing in all its glory. Not far from where you stood, something different caught your eye. A modest home of clay and stone, sitting on the highest point of the hill, facing out towards the castle.
"Do you know where we are?" Loki asked.
"I do, but I don't," you answered honestly, stepping closer towards the house. "I remember this place, but that didn't used to be here-"
You heard a voice coming from the home.
One that you recognized.
Loki's hand wrapped around your shoulder to pull you down to crouch in the grass, instructing, "Shh, we mustn't be seen."
You were too entranced to argue, watching as out from the house came a raven haired boy you recognized.
"Frig.. He's here?" After him came another, smaller child that desperately tried to catch up with him. She waddled a few steps before tripping, only to get back up and go after him.
"Don't let your sister get dirty," a disembodied voice called out, just before an alternate version of you came into view.
And there, behind you all, came this alternate world’s Loki with a small bundle in his arms. He walked around to your side and planted a kiss on your cheek before whispering something to you. Your cheeks flushed as you laughed, taking the bundle from his arms as the baby began to softly coo at her parents.
As this family lived out their moment so innocently, unaware of the two of you watching them, you remained crouched in the grass, hand covering your mouth.
"Why are you showing me this?" you finally managed to ask Loki, your voice quivering. “And what have you done to the stone?"
He held up the contraption encasing the space stone, explaining, "I had to find a time where someone could devise me something to better control the stone’s power. After that, I searched." You followed his gaze as he looked back out to the happy family. "I spent four days hopping in and out of timelines, alternate realities, different futures. All in the hopes that I could find this one particular future.”
At that, you were speechless. Watching the children play, you felt tears swell up in your eyes. Finally, you managed to ask," Why though? Why did you want to find this? "
"Because this is what I always dreamed for us, y/n. A house on our special hill. Children to raise. A life together. This is what I always wanted, this is what I always saw as our future." A part of him choked up when he admitted, "This is how I saw our story play out, y/n, I always knew you and I were destined to have a life, a family. I know this isn’t a future you thought you could have since I died, but I'm here now. This," he pointed towards the house, "This can still be us. Obviously not here, but in Midgard. We can have this life there, if you'll only give me a chance." When you still didn’t answer, only stared blankly up at him, he finished with, “I can live without this ideal storybook ending, this fantasy of a world with no pain, no strife. But what I cannot live without,” he tilted your face towards him, “is you. I cannot go another day living like this, y/n. I cannot live in the same town as you, see you every day, and not be able to speak to you. To touch you. To hold you. In every reality I visited, every version of how our lives play out, the one truth above all else is that we are meant to be together. Me getting the space stone, coming to a time where you’ve lost me? This is more than a coincidence, y/n, this is the universe rewriting itself to give us the life we always wanted.” He brought his hands to both sides of your face, running his fingers back into your hair while tears fell down your face. His forehead pressed against yours while he finished, “I love you, y/n. I loved you in your past, and I want to love you in your present. I only need you to let me.”
Your hands came up to his, running your fingers over his skin.
Could it really be this easy?
Rather than give you another moment to doubt him, Loki pulled you closer. You felt a jolt echo through your body at the sensation of his arms wrapping around you, but nothing could prepare you for the feeling of his lips as they pressed against yours.
The kiss, light as a feather, was enough to send you soring.
There were no words left as you felt the soft light wash over the two of you, taking you back to your cabin on Midgard. As you pulled back from him, you could see the softness behind his emerald gaze that you had witnessed after you and Loki fought Hela’s army.
This version of Loki that you were so sure would repeat your pasts grievances, had proven he loved you more than anything else.
Even with the tesseract in his possession, he used it only to show you how much you meant to him.
The two of you stood quiet for a moment while he set the tesseract on the mantle next to his helmet. He turned to look at you, a small glint in his eye just before he presented you with a small bundle of wild flowers.
Curious, you took the bouquet from him, inhaling sharply when he purposefully grazed your fingers. Your eyes locked onto one another and for a moment the world was still.
Just as you were about to say something, the flowers in your hand began to wiggle. Instinctively you let go, expecting to see petals floating to the ground.
But instead, what you saw was a set of light green, five inch long snakes, slithering across the ground to escape whatever madness they had just been conjured to.
You bit down hard on your lips to stifle it down, but the jerks of your shoulders were evidence enough that were, indeed, laughing.
“What the hell was that for?” you had to ask, completely confused by the theatrics.
Loki’s eyes fell to the ground while his lips curled into a smile. A small huff escaped his mouth. “You laughed the last time I did that. Do you remember?”
The snakes? You wondered, He had turned flowers to snakes?
It wasn’t but another second before you realized he was right. The first time you ever met Loki, he had turned a flower that Thor was giving to your sister Sif into a harmless grass snake.
At that, you let the laugh leave you willingly. “Yes,” you admitted, “I remember."
You were taken off guard when Loki reached up and took your chin to turn your face towards his. His eyes burned into yours while he ran his thumb over your lower lip. You knew what was going to happen next.  “Loki…” you breathed out.
And yet all of that changed when his lips met yours. Like a tidal wave washing over you, his mouth opened for his tongue to sweep across your lips. Despite yourself you kissed him back, unable to contain it any longer. Your arms went around his shoulders, while his hands moved down your body to cup your ass. Letting out a shaky breath as you pulled back from the kiss, Loki didn’t let you move out of his grasp. He looked down at you, his desires written as plainly on his face as they were on yours. In one swift motion, he lifted you up in his arms, urging your legs around his waist as he pressed your back against the wall.
Reaching up, you took a handful of his hair in your grip to try and maintain some sense of control. But at the tug of Loki's hair, a deep throated growl escaped him, driving his hips to grind against you as his fingers dug into your bottom.
Even through both of your clothes you could feel Loki’s excitement threatening to erupt from its constraints with each agonizing motion. You yourself were overflowing with a heat that boiled in the pit of your soul, a raging inferno that could melt you from the core.
His mouth broke loose of yours just as suddenly, due to newfound control over himself or a need to catch a breath you weren’t sure.
Your eyes were on each others, chests heaving, grips tight, bodies tense.
"Y/n," came out in a husky tone from his quivering lips. "If you ask me to stop, I will." Though he was showing restraint, the pressure to do so caused his fingers to dig deeper into the soft tissue of your ass. "If you don't want this, I won't go any further."
You hadn't expected the gesture, your mouth opening to speak but nothing came out.
Inside, your heart pounded, your head unraveled, your stomach flipped. Some part of you still feared what Loki was capable of, but your mind was so blurred by the raw desires building between you that you couldn’t protest.
Giving into your lust, you pulled his face closer to yours, whispering, "Let's go to my room."
The excitement in his eyes sent a wave through you while he took you up in his arms bridal style.
You let him tote you down the hall, resting your head in the crick of his neck as the anticipation mounted. The feel of his skin against yours, the scent of his hair, even the way he held you was all so familiar,  so comforting. Once in the seclusion of your room, he moved to your bedside and laid you down.
His mouth came down on yours with a vengeance, no longer seeking approval but rather to feed the primal urges that had been tearing at you both since the day he arrived. You weren't any more gentle, knotting his hair between your fingers, latching onto him. The sensation of his fingertips sliding under your shirt sent delicious shivers through your body as you and Loki both began pulling at one another's clothes. As the last clothing was tossed to the side, Loki parted from your lips. He held himself above you, his eyes combing over every inch of your body before moving between your thighs. You brought your legs up, wrapping them around his waist as he situated himself at your entrance. Without hesitation, your heels dug into his waist, urging him forward.
Your eagerness brought a smile to the god's face as he teased, "So impatient."
Narrowing your eyes, you smiled back just before leaning up from the bed. In a quick motion, you wrapped an arm around his shoulder and slung  him onto his back so that you could mount him. With a slight realignment of your hips, he was sliding between your lips.
The animalistic groan that escaped from Loki was reflected by his nails carving deeper into your thighs. Moving back and forth over his shaft, there was an insurmountable pressure building inside of you that came out as soft moans as you pleasured yourself with his body.
But you gave pause at the tightening of his hold.
Instead of going on, you leaned down to kiss him, only to change direction and gently nip at his neck.
It proved to be too much for him to stand as Loki reached to tangle his fingers in your hair to hold you in place while sitting up with you in his lap. His hips backed away enough to let his member raise between you and before you could even respond, he slipped inside of you.
You stifled back your euphoric cries by locking onto his lips, moans echoing between you as you moved in unison, pumping his cock and and out. Your arms were wrapped around one another, helping you keep the rhythm as you both came closer and closer to finishing.
Just before you came, Loki's mouth left your's and the two of you cried out in unison as you felt such a release that once you came down from the high, your body collapsed onto his. Cradling you in his arms, Loki kept you close to his chest while he rolled back onto the pillows. Your body relaxed, your breathing steadied. At absolute peace with the world for the first time in a long time, you slept.
It wasn't until sunrise that your eyes began to gutter at the sound of your neighbor's rooster. Over and over is cawed at the beginning of a new day, as if everything in the world was the same as it had been the day before.
Giving out a much needed stretch and deep breath, your hand brushed the empty side of your bed.
You sat up, looking down.aware Loki was gone.
That's whe you heard the scrambling in the kitchen, not rowdy but possibly a mess ensuing. Slipping into a robe, you wandered down the hall to the kitchen.
Loki was standing with his back to you, Frig at his side on a chair so that he could reach the counter.
"This is an avocado," Frig informed Loki, "You'll need a knife to cut it, but be mindful of the pit."
With a flick of the wrist, a slender knife appeared in the god's hand, causing the boy to gasp in excitement.
Neither had noticed you when Frig asked, "Do you think I can do magic like you and grandmother, father?"
The title rolled off your son's tongue so effortlessly that you could tell it tugged at Loki in such a way he whipped his head to look down into his bright green eyes.
"I…" You were just about to speak up when he came out with, "I certainly believe you can learn. You know I was only a few years older than you when I learned my first trick."
"Really?"
"Oh yes, I-"
"Knock knock," Valkyrie cut in as she opened the front door. At the disturb ce, Loki and Frig both turned towards the door.
Loki's eyes fell on you, realizing that you had been there there that whole time.
"Oh, good morning, Mother. Aunt Hilde. Father and I are making breakfast."
"Oh?" Valkyrie asked as she glanced over to you, answering with, "You and Father were making breakfast, how sweet."
You could see the smile plastered on her face with an all too knowing I-told-you-so spark in her eyes as Frig and Loki set the table for you to all sit and eat. You and Brunhilde went over the day’s agenda while the Loki showed Frig small feats of magic. It all felt so normal that when Valkyrie left to go ahead and walk Frig to class, you didn’t give another thought to Loki asking to escort you all through town. The two of you walked a few paces behind them, quietly soaking up the settled world around you.
Loki’s stopped walking, making you glance up to meet his gaze. “Thank you for giving me a chance, y/n. I can’t express how much this means to me, to finally get to have this life with you.”
You looked out in front of you, seeing Frig pass a smile back your way before you looked back at Loki with a full heart. Pulling yourself up by his shoulders, you planted a kiss on his lips. “Thank you for showing me we could have it,” you spoke to him. He brought you close to an embrace, nuzzling his face into your hair.
Frig called out to the two of you for getting behind, calling out, “Mother? Father? Sif will be upset if we’re late!”
Loki’s hand took yours, his thumb rubbing across your palm as he pulled you forward. “Musn’t make Aunt Sif wait,” he laughed.
The four of you went on towards the hill, waving goodbye to Frig and the rest of the children before you went to go on your day. Watching Valkyrie head on ahead, Loki started on the path back down towards main street as you took in a breath.
This was your reality, you told yourself. Your people, your friend, your son and your love. Finally, you had come to where you needed to be.

Lost Forever, If I Never Knew You (Loki Odinson x Reader)
written for @melonpanbread. i know you don’t like pocahontas that much but i will change your mind by forcing you to listen to my favorite song.
**p.s we are pretending Asgard wasn’t completely destroyed for this, ok?**
songs used:
If I Never Knew You/Farewell (Instrumental) (recommended to listen to this while reading the first part of this imagine)
If I Never Knew You (for the singing parts obvs)
Tumblr media
You and Loki knew that a relationship was risky. There were a million reasons why you shouldn’t pursue one with him. There were billions of reasons he should have turned away from you the minute his heart skipped a beat upon meeting you.
You were the daughter of Thanos. Adopted as a child by the Titan that murdered your entire family right in front of you. You were only a toddler when they were killed. You didn’t shed a tear for your mother as she was slaughtered. Thanos considered that to be strength. Really, he was proud of a child for not weeping over a mother he had never given her a chance to know.
You were taken to live with him. It was you and your sisters, Gamora and Nebula, until they left home. You’d never had a real reason to want to leave home - your father was all you knew. He was horrible, and you knew that. You had seen him commit unspeakable crimes and get away with it all because people were terrified of him.
But he was your father.
And you had no one to save you.
Gamora escaped on her own, sure, but she would have never survived without her group of friends. Nebula was saved by Gamora. And they left you behind without so much as a second thought.
Your father never wasted any time in telling you about how little they cared about you. He reminded you of it every time he thought he saw a twinkle of a dream in your eye.
And yes, you did dream of being free. You dreamed of running away and finding Gamora and her friends. Maybe they would have room for you on their ship. Maybe you would find a place.
But each dream was destroyed before you even got to plan.
Thanos made sure of that.
It was because of the constant putting you down that he allowed you to wander around on your own. Whatever planet you were on with him, you were allowed to explore on your own. So long as you came back when he called.
You were on a planet called Asgard. Your father had come as soon as he’d heard of Ragnarok taking place. He and his other Children went to work. They would see if there happened to be any survivors, kill half of them, and torture the other half for information on the location of the next infinity stone.
You were allowed to roam free.
The planet was in fiery remains. The roads were flooded with lava, the palace completely destroyed. You found a way inside, anyway. You would go through impossible means to find a way to escape the sounds of death and destruction that happened wherever your father went.
Inside of the palace, the only place to go was down a set of stairs. It was long and they were made of gold. While they were soft from the extreme heat of the magma surrounding them, you were able to go to the very bottom.
At the very bottom was treasure.
You admired it; not wanting to touch it. There was no use for gold or jewels or ancient artifacts where you lived. The only thing that mattered were the infinity stones, and more likely than not, you would bring those to your father if you ever happened to come across them.
As you admired a set of vases, you heard the crunch of a boot against glass. You whipped around, gasping sharply. You saw the figure on the other side of the room only briefly (long enough to see the dagger in his hand) before you decided you had to duck behind the display.
“Wait!” the voice said. “I don’t intend to harm you.”
You remained silent, hearing him approach you slowly.
“Come out,” he said, sounding mildly threatening. “Don’t pretend you aren’t here.”
You knew how to fight. You could hold your own. In fact, it was mostly your fault that Nebula was more machine than anything now. But that made you less inclined to want to fight.
You held your breath.
“Again, I say that I don’t intend to harm you,” he said.
“I saw your dagger!” you said, trying to keep your voice even.
He stopped moving. “So you speak.”
“Of course I speak,” you spat.
“Stand up,” he said. He sounded... impressed. Intrigued.
You did, assuming it was better than being fatally wounded. You stepped out from behind the display and stood before him, back straight, fists at your sides. His eyes raked over you, like he was trying to recognize you.
“What is your name?” he asked.
“I am ___,” you answered, “Daughter of Thanos.”
His eyes flashed. “Thanos.”
“Yes,” you said. You drew your own dagger and pointed it at his throat. You walked towards him, stopping only when the tip of the weapon touched the base of his neck. “Now tell me who you are, or you will suffer more than you ever dreamed possible.”
He flashed a grin. “Promise?”
You pushed the weapon into his flesh. Barely. He hissed, but still smiled. “You name.”
“I am Loki,” he said. “Son of Odin.”
“You are the prince of this castle?” you asked.
“I was,” he replied.
You pulled back your weapon and put it away, urging him to do the same. He did. “What are you still doing here, Prince?”
“I was escaping,” he replied, “before you came down and frightened me half to death.”
“Hm.” You nodded.
“Your father... is he on this planet?” he asked.
“He is,” you replied. “And he is gathering what survivors he can find. He will murder half of them and then torture the rest for information. He knows that an infinity stone was located here.”
“Why are you telling me this?” Loki asked you.
“Because,” you said, “I want to warn you now so you have a chance to run.”
He smiled. “And you want to help me why?”
“Because what my father is capable of... is beyond what you are prepared to deal with.”
“I am more than familiar with what your father is capable of. Do you not know who I am?” He stepped closer, and you stepped backwards. “I am Loki. Before I accepted my name as Odinson, I was Laufeyson.”
You nodded. “I’ve heard of you.”
“So you have,” he breathed.
“I remember you,” you said. “The terrified young man that would struggle to obey my father’s commands. Don’t worry, I felt scared, too. I didn’t like to listen either. My sister was considered to be the galaxy’s greatest assassin. I was not.”
“You were the girl that hid behind her father’s throne,” he said.
You looked at the floor.
“I knew it was you,” he said. “From the moment I saw you enter this room.”
“What is your father intending to do with the stones?” he asked you. You were both venturing further into the depths of the palace, desperate to get away from unwanted ears and eyes.
“He is planning a massive genocide. He will kill half the people in the entire universe. The other half will survive under his rule. The food and water supply will be greater. He thinks it will prevent another tragedy like the death of his planet.”
“Your father is absolutely mad,” Loki said.
“I am aware,” you replied.
“Do you wish to stop him?” he asked.
You stopped walking. He paused, turning to look at you. Although your mind was screaming, Yes! Stop him! Do anything you can!, you knew better. You gaped at him briefly, then shook your head.
“How could I?”
“Don’t tell me you couldn’t betray your father,” he scoffed.
“I could. If I was strong enough to do it on my own.” When he lifted his chin, you continued: “My sisters betrayed him without me. They didn’t even look back for me. I was left behind.”
“But you wish to be free,” he said.
“Who doesn’t?” you replied.
He took a deep breath and looked at you sadly.
“I am no slave,” you said, pulling at the end of your sleeve, “but I wish I had a say in what my best interests are.”
“You do now,” he said. He took your hand. “My brother is Thor, and he has a team of... of people on Earth. They can stop Thanos, I know it. They stopped him before.”
“What are you saying?” you asked.
“I am saying that you can come with me. You said your sisters left you behind, but if they hadn’t, you would follow them. I can’t make them come back to get you, but I can save you myself.” He tugged gently on your arm. “If you are willing to come, of course. Are you?”
You stared up at him, eyes wide. Your mind was swirling with a thousand different thoughts. You knew it was dangerous. It could end so poorly. But if you didn’t... if you didn’t take this chance...
“What choice do I have?” you breathed, more to yourself than anyone. Then, to him: “I must. I will.”
He had a plan to escape. You only had to trust him.
Your father decided to spend days in Asgard, searching deeply because he was positive that the infinity stone was near. You used this to your advantage; your father wasn’t calling you back, so you remained with Loki, night after night, day after day.
He found a ship. He asked if you trusted him.
You assured him that you did again and again. He took you to the top of the ruins of the castle and said that he had a way off of the planet. However, you grew scared of what could happen. Not to you. A death, no matter how painful, would me mercy compared to another second spent with your father.
“Loki,” you choked.
“What is it?” he asked, looking back at you. “Is something wrong with you?”
“If we are caught,” you said, “my father will kill you. And it won’t be a quick death or a painless one.”
“We won’t be caught,” he assured you.
“It isn’t that simple,” you said to him.
He turned to you. “And what will happen to you if you are caught?” he asked.
“I do not know, but whatever it is... I hope it is a death. Because the price I will pay for betraying my father is...”
“Is this price worth the potential freedom?” he asked. “Well? Is it?”
You didn’t need to hesitate. Thinking of the years of agony - of being forced to fight your sisters, of watching Nebula get tortured in punishment, in witnessing countless murders as a child.
“Yes,” you breathed. “It is worth it.”
“Good,” he said.
“But Loki,” you said, grabbing his arm. “Is it worth it to you? Saving me?”
He looked you over. “___ - you may feel like I don’t know you well. But I remember that terrified girl hiding behind her father’s throne. I remember the look in her eyes when it was clear she needed help. I remember you, and I remember thinking, even back then: I need to rescue her. You can call me mad all you want and I will agree with you, but rescuing you? That is worth it to me.”
You were reaching up and he was reaching down. He kissed you on the lips, his movements almost harsh, if it weren’t for the way he gently held the back of your head. You felt foolish, but desperate for this. This was your first rush of closeness, your first feeling of what only could be a form of love.
It only ended when you felt the rush of cold in your veins. You heard Loki draw his dagger and felt him push you away. He turned away quickly and guarded you, weapon at the ready.
Standing in front of you was Ebony Maw. You sucked in a sharp intake of air.
“___,” Ebony said, smiling smugly. “What a shame it is to see you acting this way. And yet... it isn’t surprising. I knew it was a matter of time before this happened.”
You put a hand on Loki’s shoulder. He glanced back at you for a brief moment, then looked to Ebony Maw. Ebony barely had to lift his hand; you were smacked with an invisible force and tossed directly onto the hard floor of the palace - directly at your father’s feet.
He looked down at you. “My daughter,” he said, leaning down. He stroked his fingers down the side of your face as you closed your eyes and began to weep. “What a disappointment you have become to me.”
“No,” Loki whispered, and two of the Children of Thanos grabbed him by his arms. Thanos picked you up by your arm.
“That one will try to use magic,” Thanos threatened him. “I will have you know that trying to escape using those tricks will make me kill her. It is that easy.” He placed his hands possessively on your shoulders.
You didn’t look at Loki. You were so ashamed to have thought you could escape. And now you’d sentenced this man to death by your own foolishness.
“Take him away,” Thanos said.
Your face twisted in pain and you opened your eyes, meeting Loki’s. He struggled, but not too much.
“I am so sorry,” you mouthed to him.
He didn’t say anything.
You were back by the throne of your father. He had Loki locked somewhere nearby. Every now and again, you could hear his screams as he was tortured.
“You thought you could escape me. This saddens me, daughter. You are not a slave. You never were. You have and always will be...” He paused to stroke your hair. “My beautiful daughter.”
You cringed against his touch. “You are a liar.”
“I am not,” he said simply.
“You murdered my family, tortured my sister, and kept me here even though I hated you. How could you not be a liar?” you hissed.
“I am many things, my child, but a liar is not one of them.” He stood off of his stool and knelt in front of you. He tilted his head, smiled, and said, “I know what will make you believe me.” He reached over and wiped a tear off of your cheek.
“What?” you breathed.
“I will let you see him,” he said. “And you will see that I am no liar.”
You were allowed to step inside of the room he was being tormented in. He was tied to the wall, chains against his wrist, keeping him attached to the wall. When you came inside, and the creatures watching him left, he lifted his bruised head.
“___,” he breathed.
“Loki,” you said. You went over to him and dropped to your knees. Your hands fluttered over his chest, which had been cut open. He cringed as your fingers got too near to his deep wounds. “I am so sorry.”
“For what?” he asked. “This? I’ve had worse scrapes than this. Can’t think of any right now, but-”
“This is all my fault.” You dropped your head in shame.
“Please,” he said. “Don’t speak like that. You still have a chance to escape.”
“No, I don’t. And I sentenced you to death. It is because of me that you will die.”
“I didn’t have much living for, anyway,” he laughed bitterly. “And the one thing I regret in my life, above all the other many things, is that I never rescued that scared young woman that hid behind that chair.”
You raised your head.
“You may think that it was fate that brought us together, and maybe it was. I don’t know. But you and I were meant to cross paths again. What other reason is there that you would be in my mind every day, even six years after the last I saw you?”
“It would have been better if we had never met. None of this would have ever happened.”
“___, look at me.” You did. “I’d rather die tomorrow than live a hundred years without knowing you.”
You leaned into his chest carefully. As he spoke, you wrapped your arms around him.
“If I never knew you,” he breathed, “if I never knew this love... I would have no inkling of how precious life can be. If I never held you, I would never have a clue, how at last I’d find in you the missing part of me.”
A sound outside of the room made you jump. He lifted himself despite the pain, desperate to cover you.
“In this world, so full of fear - full of rage and lies... I can find the truth so clear in your eyes, so dry your eyes...” He looked down at you and smiled. “And I am so grateful to you, I’d have lived my whole life through... lost forever, if I never knew you...”
You looked up, your forehead touching his. “I thought our love would be so beautiful. Somehow, we’d make the whole world bright. I never knew that fear and hate could be so strong, all they’d leave us were these whispers in the night.” You stroked his face, and he leaned into your touch. “But still my heart is saying we were right... If I never knew you, if I never felt this love-”
“There’s no moment I regret,” he said. “Since this moment that we met.”
“I would have no inkling of how precious life can be,” you finished.
“If our time has gone too fast, I’ve lived at last.”
Your father came inside of the room. Loki glared at him for half a second, then looked to you.
“I can’t leave you,” you said, shaking your head.
“You never will,” he said. “No matter what happens to me, I’ll always be with you. Forever.”
You began to stand up, your hand still on his cheek. He turned his head and kissed your palm.
Before you left, you turned and looked at him one last time.
He stared at you, taking in everything so he could remember it always.
And I’m so grateful to you
I’d have lived my whole life through
Empty as they sky
Your eyes filled with tears and you followed your father outside.
Never knowing why
Alone now, Loki dropped his head, letting his eyes close.
Lost forever
If I never knew you
Standing back at the throne, your father touched your shoulder. “See, my child? I am not a liar. I am only thinking of what is best for you.” Behind you, the screams coming from Loki’s cell resumed. Pained, agonized screams.
Your soul hardened.
You would kill your father, and you would save Loki.
Your hand found your dagger, and you got ready.

Coming Down || Loki Imagine
Note:Hellow hellow! It's been a while since I have written something but I have been in Marvel mode and have been mourning my lover (F U IW) so here is a little something to fix what Infinity War showed us. Might be a two part thing so yep. Summary, Loki lasts longer than 5 darn minutes. Possible second title to this imagine? Finding Loki. Do I need to say there are spoilers? Cause yep, there are a few. Also things have been altered to fit the imagine. Feedback is encouraged!
”So we are really doing this” you say to the prince of Asgard while your eyes are fixed on the shining Teserract before you in the room in the spaceship.
”If you are having second thoughts…” he says. You were always by his side when it came to his plans. Yeah, it made you a little bit more like him in his choice of good and bad, but you enjoyed this life. Even if you didn't, he would never make you do things against your will, so all the plans you shared together were willing, and he never made you feel guilty about it. Loki was a different person when he was around you, yet keeping his mischievous and Godlike reputation.
”No. No. It's just…” you trail off. Loki had taken the Teserract from Asgard before you all left as it was destroyed. He was right, they couldn't leave an Infinity Stone just laying there for Thanos to take so easily, and you knew that Loki wouldn't think twice of handing it over if it meant some kind of benefit to him. He will know about Asgard’s destruction and locating the ship would be easy if you didn't all hurry.
”Yes, love?” He asks as he takes some steps your way.
”He will come for us…” you say.
”You knew so.”
”He will come after you” you emphaize the last word because that was your fear. Loki had already failed him the first time and Thanos didn't seem like the type to let mistakes slide. The Accuser had told Loki he'd long for something as sweet as pain, and you weren't looking forward to the consequences.
”You knew so as well” he says and smirks. It was almost as if he was ready for the consequences. “I do have a plan.”
”What if I can't protect you? What if my shield isn't strong against him? I can't extend it to everyone here” you slightly panicked.
”Just make sure everyone gets somewhere safe, I can take care of myself.” You almost scoff at that. “I'll go see my brother. Would you like to join?”
”I'll catch up. I'll see how everyone is doing” you nod your head.
”Don't take long” he says, his cold fingers resting on your chin to lift it for his lips to meet your own in a soft kiss before he disappears.
You look at the Teserract one last time with wary eyes and turn to leave through the doors to where the Asgardians were at. You comfort a few, some of them thanking you for being with them. You were just a human with gifts, from Earth, Loki had brought you to Asgard when he took over as his father and wanted to have some fun. Since he couldn't go out of Asgard, he sneaked out for a few moments to come and get you. Just then, the doors to the room the brothers were in opened and Loki came rushing in, his blue hues instantly calling for yours. Hues that showed some fear when they met yours to the point that he stopped in his tracks and gestured with his finger to follow him. You, of course, rush to him.
”Loki-”
”He found us” he says quickly as he holds your arm.
”What!?” That was too fast.
”Keep everyone safe. I'll go get it” he uses his gift to change you into your battle suit. A somewhat not-so-tight black and blue latex suit that helped your movements.
”What!? No. I'm coming” you say as you meet his eyes and his lips part to say something but stops. “I'm not letting you go alone” and just then, the ship shakes after an impact, Loki quickly covering your body with his.
”I'll be fine, protect them” he says before he rushes away and you are left with the Asgardians and Thor rushing to you, Valkyrie following.
”What the hell was that!?” She asks.
”Thanos is attacking the ship!”
”We need to get the ship somewhere safe” you say to Valkyrie, another impact making you lose your balance, screams filling the Ark.
”On it” Valkyrie says and Thor turns to Hulk
”Any suggestions?”
”We can try to hold him off” you say.
”Let's move.” It's all he says.
Everything happens in a blur, almost instantly another impact hits the Ark and you hear a cracking before you lose balance and go unconscious. You are not sure how, but next thing you know the Ark has an opened side and you know there weren't many ways to endure the attack. The whole Ark on fire, the Asgardians on the floor, some motionless, some hurt, that's your first sight after your eyes open. You look at your side as you feel a hand on your shoulder and you jump away.
”It's me. It's me.” Loki says, a hand raised. “Come on, I need to get you somewhere else.”
”What about them?” You ask referring to the Asgardians.
”We don't have much time, most of them escaped through pods with the Valkyrie” he says. You look around to see corpses around you and you gasp, tears filling your eyes. You had one job, to protect these people, and you failed. ”It is not your fault” he assures you as he helps you up.
”I had to protect them...I should've” If you could've at least focused enough, you would have used your shield as you were told to, or your telekinesis to fight back... Your telekinesis was all mental, you could guide objects with your mind by focusing and imagining it going to the way you wanted it to.
”No time to feel guilt, love. We need-” he stops speaking and you raise your gaze to look at him and spot one of Thanos minions. Ebony.
”Hear me and rejoice” he says and your eyes widen. You remember your boyfriend saying that his gift was persuasion, and you were scared for what he could do. “I believe you have something that belongs to the Titan” he says once he is close to Loki.
Loki pushes you slightly behind him, his hues fixed on Ebony. “Does Thanos not trust me that he sends you for it?”
”He does not trust you ever since you failed to get him the Teserract the first time. He would like it now” and his head tilts to the side to look at you. “Or your partner will suffer the consequences.”
”Why don't you try to do it now?” You say as you take a step forward, Loki sighs and holds you back and as he does, another hand catches you, a much larger one, and pulls you back harshly before turning you around and holding you by the neck and lifting you up, not strangling just yet. “Wondering why you haven't showed up.”
Loki turns around and his eyes widen at the sight of Thanos holding you by the neck.
”You choose a mere mortal to be your companion?” Thanos says to Loki with a chuckle as he looks at you. “Pathetic.”
”I can show you how mortal I am” you snarl. You focus on a rock behind Thanos and have it levitate before throwing it at him, but the Titan seemed to have a sixth sense or something because he breaks it with his hand.
Thanos chuckles and the hand around your throat tightens, “Nice try, but not enough.” He turns to look at Loki, “One last chance”
Loki looks at you before he turns to Thanos, “Let her go” he pauses as the Hulk shows up and starts rushing towards Thanos.
Thanos smirks before tossing you to the side, your body hitting the floor with a loud thud. You look around and spot Thor hurt, possibly by the impacts of Thanos’ ship against the Asgardian one. As you watch the scene before you, Thanos and Hulk fighting, you are trying to stand up from the ground but the impact of the fall had you with a painful back and you could barely stand up without wincing, but you were also trying to get something to use as a weapon.
Loki tries to move towards you but Proxima aims at him with her staff and he holds back. You fall back on the ground as your head still spins from the impact but all of a sudden you are being lifted up by one arm like a rag doll and you grunt at the abrupt action. You hiss and try to squirm away, as you listen to Thanos speak, “The Teserract” A pause. “Or their heads...I believe you have a preference…”
”Oh, I do...Kill away.” Loki says and your eyes widen for a moment but you knew his words were because he had a plan, he has said it.
Thanos chuckles and places his hand with the gauntlet on your head and starts squeezing it slowly, you hold back a scream until it starts to get unbearable and you hear Thor’s scream as yours take over who was also having his head squeezed by what you could see from the corner of your eyes before they closed in pain.
Your head felt like it would be ripped from your neck in any second. There was too much pressure on it and your eyes felt like they would come out like your brain, causing your scream to get louder at how unbearable it was. There was nothing you could do to try to defend everyone, the pain didn't let you concentrate enough.
”Alright! Stop!” Loki shouts and just like that your head is released from the painful grip. You groan and a hand goes to your head to try to soothe some of the pain, your breath uneven. You look at Loki and he lets out a sigh of relief, eyes closing as he does and for a moment, he looks so vulnerable and relieved. You nod your head as he eyes you questioningly, you two didn't had to talk, a simple glance with the right expression would do it for the two of you. Just like it was between him and Thor. You look to the side and spot Thor on the floor, chest heaving, blood and dirt covering his skin.
”We don't have the Teserract. It was destroyed on Asgard” Thor says.
In cue, Loki hesitates for a moment before raising his hand and dismissing the glamour that hid the Teserract on his hand from everyone's sight. The look on your partner’s face screamed so many emotions at once. Regret. Fear. Relieved. Disappointment. The clear feeling that he failed and lied to his brother.
”You are seriously the worst brother” You glare at Thor for a moment before turning to Loki as Thanos approaches him to take the Teserract. You spot the Hulk slightly moving again after the beating he got from Thanos. You look at Thor who is eyeing the scene before the two of you. Thanos takes the Teserract from Loki and crushes it with no struggle in his hand. You watch him place the stone in the gauntlet as power takes over him, and it's so clear that he is getting stronger with every stone that is placed on the gauntlet it gave you the worst feeling ever. Thanos starts going on about a speech of what he wishes to accomplish once he has all the Infinity Stones, which honestly you don't even listen at as you try to process everything going on and plan a way to get away from the Mad Titan with no more harm. This goes for a couple of seconds, and all you can do is keep your eyes fixed on the Titan.
Your eyes then fall on the God of Mischief who is again approaching Thanos’ children. He looked...different. You could even say he looked confident. A complete change of how he was a few minutes ago as you and Thor were being threatened in an exchange for the Space stone. “I don't mean to interject, but if you are going to Earth, you might want a guide. A bit of experience in that arena” he chuckles and if you didn't feel like he had a plan you'd be screaming and running towards him to slap him. What was he really up to? You wish you knew.
”If you consider failures experiences” Thanos interrupts.
”I consider experiences experiences” Loki says. “Oh mighty Thanos. I, Loki, Prince of Asgard, Odin...son,” his gaze meets Thor, lingers on him for a moment before they shift to you, then to Thanos. “the rightful king of Jotunheim, God of Mischief, do hereby pledge to you, my undying fidelity.” Your hues shift to his hand and you see the weapon being conjured. “I assure you, brother” he looks at Thor and then to you, his eyes shouting for an apology as they meet your own, “my love, the sun will shine on us again.”
He wouldn't…? No. That would be so unlikely of Loki. If only it were a desperate measure but it was not. You would be freed or hoped to be since it was given what Thanos had asked. Loki couldn't really be considering the idea of attacking Thanos with a dagger after he has now two of the Infinity Stones. You felt like a scream was bottling down your throat, your heart beating too quickly to be considered healthy or normal at the possible consequences. One step...Two steps, and he pulls the knife from behind him and aims it at Thanos neck, hoping to stab him but the Titan knew better. The Titan was using a stone to hold back the attack and your eyes widen. “No!” You stand up in a rush, but Ebony sends some scrapped pieces from the ship to hold you back, doing the same to Thor, way too fast for you to find something to counter the attack.
”Undying?” Thanos questions and chuckles. “You should choose better your choice of words” he says and reaches for Loki with his free hand and it goes around his neck.
”Let him go!” You shout. “You got what you wanted now go and leave us!”
Proxima and Corvus approach you in a few quick steps and you snarl between your teeth.
”Forefathers, let the dark magic flow through me one last time…” you hear Heimdall say and you see the bifrost beam surrounding Hulk before you see it on yourself.
”No! Heimdall, stop this! I don't want to go!” You look at Heimdall and then at Loki in Thanos’ grasp. You see the Titan’s hand tightening the large fingers around him and then, you see nothing except the colorful beam of the Bifrost as you are transported to inside of a building. Hulk lands on the stairs and you land on the floor with a loud thud making you yelp in pain. You can't see much, but you see two men hovering over you, orange circles around their hands aiming at you.
”Identify yourself” the small one says and you just groan and let your head fall to the side, too exhausted from so many things going on at once.
”You can't expect me to just wait for Thanos to make the next move!” You say to Tony after Bruce ran some details as to who Thanos was.
”Y/N, there isn't much we can do to locate Loki. For all we know he could be allying with Thanos once again” Tony says and you scoff. “But don't worry, we will find a way. We have one advantage, we have that stone which he needs, all we have to do is make a plan and defeat him.”
”He gave that up long ago. He'd never go back to working with him. He just wanted to give him the Teserract as an exchange for his freedom. If he had any possibility of joining him I'm sure Thanos wouldn't have hold him by the neck” you say. “And I'm sure the part that you are missing is the plan.”
”Loki trying to be good? Sounds suspicious to me” Doctor Strange says. “And giving an Infinity Stone to someone he worked for before for the same objective?”
”Yeah, well, I believe in him and trust him” you turn to the others. “All he wanted was to get rid of the debt he had, once it was handed over he was going to be done with him, or so it should've been” you say with a frown.
”We still need to wait-” Tony starts but you interrupt him.
”Wait for what!? For all we know Loki could be dead by now and Thanos could be already on his way here to get the rest of the stones” you were losing your patience. It was a possibility you refused to give it thought to.
”Y/N, we understand you want to find him, we actually really don't, but going on our own and not knowing where to start searching will not help us. We are not sure what happened to the remains of the ship” Bruce was besides you and you frown at his words.
”Sitting here and waiting for the next move won't help us either unless we want to get ourselves killed” you say. “He already has the Power and Space stone.” Everyone stays silent for a few seconds, gaze meeting with each other. “If we find Loki, we could find Thanos, he'd know what he is up to or his next move” You try to push in.
Tony pinches the bridge of his nose, “Alright” he looks at you. “We are going to need some help.”
You stayed at Tony’s house for the night as he, Doctor Strange, Wong and Spiderman fought Ebony and Black Dwarf. He was planning to send you to Wakanda along with Bruce to get some help. You sat on your bed holding a necklace Loki had given you. You were looking out at the city of New York, enjoying the city lights while your head spun with ideas and thoughts of ways to find the God of Mischief.
”You still have it” a voice you recognize rings behind you and you jump from the bed. His hands raised on the air.
”Loki! Don't do that!” You say and you frown. “It's not really you.”
”It is me, darling. Not in the flesh but-”
”Are you alright?” You look at him, you notice the color of his lips are paler, his hair more of a mess than usual, and there were dark bags under his eyes. “What is he doing to you?” You ask and you instinctively stand up and walk towards him. “I thought he had killed you…” your hand raises on your side to touch his features, until you remember you won't be able to feel anything and they fall back.
”Nothing you should worry about, love. I've been through worse” he says, a forced smile coming to his pale lips.
”Where are you? Loki, if he is threatening me I can take it. The others know, we are just waiting on picking up a signal to get to him and get you back.” Your tone was slightly panicky.
”I find that hard to believe” he smirks. “They must be trying to block any sign.”
”It's not like that. I got them looking for you and Thanos” you assure him. “I just need to know where you are and we will be on our way” you say and sit back again on the edge of the bed.
”Don't dare to come on your own” Loki says to you. “Thanos already has the Power and Space stone” he informs. “I could be here one moment and the other somewhere else.”
”So that means that there are only four more left...” the last words are a mutter. “He will come for Vision next possibly.” Your eyes look up at him somewhat hopeful. “He can be the bait.”
”I don't think Vision would agree to such thing-”
”He doesn't need to know” you say. “If I warn the others, they will be protecting Vision, specially Wanda. If Thanos does show up we can defeat him if we are all there.”
You can see some pride on his lips knowing you were planning things step by step, like him, but at the same time there was hesitation on agreeing. ”Y/N, you do not understand the complexity of this. Thanos could leave the Mind Stone for last, with the other stones, he is powerful enough already. It won't be as easy as you think. He can even send one of his children to do the work” he says before he looks to the side for a moment and turns back to you. “I have to go, but promise you will think this through before doing a stunt, love. I don't want to see you here with me.”
”I promise” you say but you don't mean it. If that's what you had to do to bring Loki and protect Earth from Thanos, then so be it.
Loki knows better and he sighs in defeat. “Be safe” and then he vanishes.
You stare at the spot where he had vanished from, your mind buzzing with possibilities and ideas to make your plan work. You had to think it through like he had said, you couldn't defeat Thanos alone, and any move you made wrong, could result in all horrible consequences, including Loki. What really could you do? You had to plan one step ahead, think of Thanos’ possible moves before making your own. Only problem was, how ambitious the Titan could be? How predictable? Only Loki might know and he was gone so you will have to improvise.
Your eyes close for a moment as you try to get some sleep at late hours. If only you could go back in time and change everything...If you could only protect Loki from Thanos, the Asgardians, go back to when you were both in Asgard and he was ruling it happily...When it was just the two of you...
”Don't say a word” A female voice says behind you and your body tenses at the feeling of something poking your back. “Don't do anything or you will regret it” you feel something poking your back. “Thanos would like to see you.”
”Well, tell him I only wish to see him dead and gone” you say and you feel whatever was poking you dig a little deeper.
”I'm sure he will like to hear you say so in front of your partner” you want to turn around when she mentions Loki but you know better than to risk so much. “Let's go.”
All of a sudden you can't see for an unknown reason. Did they put something to cover your eyes? Were they doing this so you didn't see where you were being taken to? Probably.
”Ah, Y/N” Thanos says and suddenly you can see. What did they do that you didn't notice the move in the first place? “We can finally meet properly” Thanos says from his chair.
”Wasn't very fond of doing so” you say, and you notice that you can't move your hands, they were tied. “Afraid I might do something? You know my mind is my real threat.”
The Mad Titan chuckles, “I see why the Asgardian Prince is fond of you” he says and you glare at him. “Fearless and not afraid of consequences, but you see, everything will have a consequence sooner or later. That, if, no measures are taken in consideration” he says.
”To the point, what do you want me here for?” You ask.
”Before we talk, I thought you'd like to see your companion” he says. Your glare towards the purple man softens you hated how words referring to Loki would cancel any aggressive thought and have you think twice of things. “I'm sure he would like to see you, he won't be able to visit you anymore” he says.
”What are you doing to him!?” You hiss and take an aggressive step forward, but Corvus and Proxima show their spear and blade before you.
”Nothing he does not deserve” he makes a gesture and the blades are pulled away, but one pushes you forward and you guess that is meant for you to follow the Titan. “You could be more, Y/N” he says as you both walk, suddenly whatever was holding your hands together vanishes and you can move them. “Sometimes the people who we are surrounded by are not the ones that mean the best” he says. “Or make us grow…”
”What are you on about?”
”Just saying, you could join me. I'm sure you wouldn't fail me like Loki has” he says, “but I'll let you consider that with time.”
You both stop in front of a wall, all dark, they open and there's some dim light inside before it shines too brightly for your eyes. Inside, your gaze falls on a Loki you don't recognize, skin too pale, lips chapped and white, hair all over his face and you can see purple and red bruises along his exposed skin, some with blood, as he lays down on the floor with his back resting on the wall. Your breath is caught on your throat and you gasp, and it's not until then that he turns to look at your direction. “Y/N?”
You rush to his figure, dropping a few feet away from him, knees hitting the ground as you slide over to him. You cup his face between your hands and he jerks away. “It's me. It's me” you say and he looks at you weirdly. He looked so broken...
”Are you?” Were they torturing him with you? How?
”It's me” you nod your head and he takes your arms, a tight grip before he pulls you close and you shiver because he was much cooler than usual, the whole room was. You hear the door slam shut, but you honestly don't care. You pull away and run your hands through his greasy hair, “What is he doing to you?”
”He said he killed you” he says. “He killed you because I warned you.”
”No. I'm here” you say and kiss his forehead. “I'm okay” you hadn't noticed that you were tearing up. “Can't believe I made the God of Mischief worry” you say with a chuckle and he joins you for a brief second.
”What are you doing here?” He whispers and holds your hands, pulling you to him and you try to wrap yourself around him to warm him, even if he was a Frost Giant.
”Proxima brought me here, she said Thanos wanted to see me.”
”Why did you agree?”
”Didn't had a choice” you inform. “And if I could get a chance to see you briefly...Just a second…”
”You shouldn't have come, Y/N. Whatever reason he asked you to come for, he won't let you go until you agree.”
”I don't care. I'll find a loophole or something” you wave off. “This way I can try to find a way to defeat him.”
”He is too powerful...”
”Why does he still have you? You are no use for him. He already knows where the stones are, why does he need you?”
”I'm guessing it is to get to you if he brought you” Loki says and you frown. “He is missing the location of two stones and you know where they are...He could've brought you to tell him so”
”What can I do? Tell me what I can do to help. Please…” your eyes close, ignoring the possible reason for Thanos to bring you to him. His thumb brushing over your cheek to wipe away the tears that have fallen.
“Don't do anything he asks. I told you I didn't want to see you here…”
”I can play along…” you say. “If that can help me win some time…”
”It's too dangerous.”
”I don't care” You hated this. You hated how he made you forget that you did care, all for his safety. Loki have been through too much, he did not deserve any of this...Maybe he did but whatever torture Thanos put him through was too much.
”Care for yourself” he says and runs his shaky hands through your hair. “I'll be alright.”
”You are fucking dying here. What does this have? Why can't you use your powers?” You say as you look around.
”I don't know” he says. “But I'll be alright. Don't worry for a God.”
”You don't look like one now” you spat, maybe hurting his ego would get him to shut up.
”Ouch” he teases and you smirk weakly. He smiles so briefly before he kisses your cheek. Your body quickly reacts to him and you relax, squeezing his hand. You duck and press your lips against his own, and they were nothing like the few kisses you two have shared. His were soft and plump, and now they were thin and harsh. Tongue brushes his lips and he pulls you closer, not wanting to let go of you and honestly you didn't want him to. You keep the kiss slow, knowing it might be a while until you could kiss him again. His free hand is resting on your neck, and you peck his lips before sighing against his lips. “Love...”
”Shh..” you hush and brush your thumb along his lips. “Don't.” Your forehead rests against his and he sighs.
”He wants something in return” he voices. “He is letting us enjoy this moment too much.”
”I will find a way” you say and bite your lip. “I will get you out of here. I'll defeat him. I'll save everyone…”
Loki chuckles and kisses your lips. “So naive…”
Then it hits you. “What....What if I can make this go away?” He gives you a questioning look. “My shield, I can block whatever is blocking your powers.” You look into his eyes, and you can swear they were so soft and small, they weren't their vibrant blue color.
”I don't think that would work. It could also block it.”
”Let's give it a try” you say and close your eyes, imagining a shield covering the two of you, like a dome. Your eyes open slightly and you can see the slight blur around the two of you and you grin. “Try it.” Loki eyes you curiously, maybe he couldn't see it? Yet he takes your necklace, undoing it before tossing it in the air and all of a sudden, the necklace flies to the other side of the room and you laugh triumphantly. “It doesn't block my shield” you say happily and look back at him. His hand is held up as he brings the necklace back to his hand.
”We need to be careful about this, love. He is always one step ahead” Loki says, his fingers delicately brushing your neck as he places the necklace around it. His once soft touch, now was almost rough because of the texture of his hands.
”Maybe for once we can go ahead of him” you say with a hopeful smile, yet Loki wasn't so fond of the idea by the look he gave you. That was only bad news, Loki always found a way to be ahead of everyone, but it seemed that Thanos has been the exception and if Loki, being the mischievous God that he is, couldn't assure you of such, how were you supposed to get ahead of Thanos when you were just a mortal?
His lips part after he sighs, and it looked like it almost hurt him to release that breath, but a thud is heard and you both look at the door that opened. Thanos was before you both, Proxima and Ebony by his side. You look at Loki and you stand up and he does so as well after struggling briefly. It only confirmed that they have been hurting him in ways you couldn't imagine. Your shield goes around the two of you again, just in case Thanos had something planned with Proxima and Ebony. “I hope you both managed to catch up” he starts and Loki tries to pull you behind him. Even as weak as he looked, his blue eyes were glaring at the Titan.
”Just barely” Loki answers. “Why did you bring her here for? She has nothing to do with what I've done.”
”Does she?” Thanos asks. “I want her to join my side. She has information I need and I want to have it.”
”She-”
”The location of the Infinity Stones?” You ask the Titan. “Yeah. I know where they are, and if you want to know you have to stop doing whatever you are doing to him” you say.
”One condition, you join me and get me all the information I need.”
”Y/N” Loki’s voice warns you.
”Deal” you say and Loki closes his eyes in defeat. “And to start...Vision is in London, in case you want to get your hands on the Mind Stone. Only Wanda should be there.”
”Fair enough…” Thanos says and turns around, arms behind his back. “Let them be. Keep the doors opened.” Proxima only eyes the two of you suspiciously before turning to follow Thanos.
”Y/N” Loki says. “What have you done?”
”I have a plan.”
