"Yessss that's it," he hisses and smacks her ass.
It's two months later and they're still at it - not every night, but almost.
He'd otherwise feared it a one time thing with the way she'd so quickly recovered the first night after he'd pulled three astonishing orgasms out of her, but had been positively thrilled to find her yelling at him on his doorstep the very next evening. He honestly cannot even remember what he did to upset her that much, but he knows it must've made her really angry because he vividly remembers three minutes later with his hands full of ass and his tongue buried inside of her.
She's calmed down since then; he doesn't have to provoke her to get her wet anymore but they still fuck like it's the end of the world.
It's the rawest, dirtiest, most destructive sex he's ever had and it's magnificent, carnal, rough! He slaps her ass as hard as he can, eats her beautiful cunt, forces his fingers inside of her until she screams his name, lets her tie him up while she tastes all of him.
It's been two secretive months of bite marks and purple tints on his skin. Of long, red scratches down his back and raven-black hair being pulled out in the most delicious of ways.
She - is - incredible! He wants to cum - fuck, she deserves the praise!
He lets her know.
"Fuck me, Loki," she hisses his name the way that he loves and it sends tingles all the way down to his balls, makes his head float up to the heavens.
"As you please," he flips them around, lies her down on her back, towers over her and admires her pliant body with his hand caressing down over her soft stomach. He still cannot believe he's this lucky!
He pushes himself back inside of her with force, watches her sweet little face contract with pleasure as her mouth falls open in an inaudible sigh.
"Darling girl," he hisses and feels her tighten around him as he diligently slides into her silk. "You feel amazing!" He leans forwards, pinches her beautiful nipple, sucks on her jawline, ruts hit hips against her to the vulgar sound of her hypnotising wetness swallowing him whole.
"Oh," she moans and he almost shivers when her eyelids close halfway with every meticulously-placed thrust of his hips while he moves with control, careful not to let go and cut the moment short - he never has her afterwards...
"Loki," she hums ever so sweetly in his ear, scrapes her nails down over his already raw-clawed shoulder blades, wraps her legs around his back, contracts around him while he's concentrating on the entirety that is her.
He saved her, he thinks to himself and gasps when his seidr begins to glow at the memory. He's thought of it a million times already and still, the mere sight of the scar on her shoulder makes his chest expand - expand - expand!
He connects his forehead with hers, finds her wide eyes and slows his hips down to a tender pace.
He was worthy enough to save her!
Their connection feels like something resembling faith. Like branches weaved at the foot of Yggdrasil, and he sensually rolls his hips and kisses her deeply, fucks her like a lover.
It's suddenly slow and caring. Soft and all-consuming. She seems to love it, and without warning, she's raking her soft finger pads through his long hair, licking his throat like a kitten while he expertly slowly guides himself in and out of her tight wetness. She whispers his name affectionately and everything glows brighter than before.
"Darling," his tongue slides into her mouth again, caresses her lazily, doubles as a non-verbal whisper telling her that he feels the same. He feels the same - and she immediately picks up on the fluorescent seidr that's filling up his chest cavity; she gasps, flutters around him, and she comes - loudly!
"Oh God!" she closes her eyes and tips over the edge while her perfect inner walls contract violently and squeeze him tight.
He's never heard such beautiful, long moans before as her fingers grab onto his curls and she gently pulls him with her, fills him up with sparks while he fucks her slowly.
He can feel every nerve ending in his body being pulled taut as a flash bow as his seidr vibrates and he finally spills inside her embracing heat to the music of her breaths against his ear.
"My sweet girl," he growls as he involuntarily falls down from his high and pulls her close while she whimpers like a wounded animal. "My goddess!" he kisses her throat, rakes his teeth across her humid skin, trails his hand down between them, ready to spoil her over and over again with his fingers, his tongue, his cock! She deserves it all and he's desperate to have her in his room a little longer. He wants her to stay forever.
He can feel the intense bond between them tightening and he slowly starts moving his hips again while his fingers find her clit.
A pang of warmth strikes his belly when he looks at her pretty face, and he cannot help the desperately sincere "you are so beautiful," that escapes his lips as he leans down to kiss her. "I want you to spend the night."
The change on her face comes in a matter of milliseconds. Suddenly, the all-consuming bliss is replaced. First, by confusion and not even moments later by the scorching anger he knows so well. "What the fuck, Loki??" she pushes at his clammy chest, "what are you doing?"
At first, he's not sure if they've resumed their regular game of cat and mouse so he keeps toying with her delicate clit the way that he knows she loves. "What am I doing?" he licks her throat and teases her asshole with his middle finger, "I'm making you come - what does it look like I'm doing?"
"No!" she pushes him again and he finally lets her escape from between his legs when he realises that she's not joking. "What the fuck was that?!"
Confused, he watches her stand from the bed. "...I'm not following you?"
"You're slow-fucking me now?" she hisses as she quickly pulls on her top, hides away her body as if he did something detestable. "Forehead to forehead like you're in love with me or something?"
It stings. "Excuse me?!"
She huffs as she forcefully yanks on her jeans. "I thought we agreed on what this was!"
"We do," he positions himself on the edge of the bed with his hands grabbing onto the sheets so tightly his knuckles turn white with humiliation. "I don't understand what the issue here is."
"Did you enchant me?"
"Enchant you?" He barks, offended. "Is that what you think of me?"
"No - I..." She huffs and looks as if she's about to pull out her own hair in frustration. "You did something different!” She says accusingly.
"I slowed down."
"Well I didn't like it!"
"You didn't like it?" He repeats, baffled. It's his most stunning performance yet; mostly due to the way she so beautifully reacted to him, and now she's trying to make him believe that she didn't like it?! "Excuse me but I'm going to have to disagree with that. I made you come harder than ever before; don't pretend you didn't enjoy it."
She sends him an annoyed side eye. "I was caught up in the moment."
"So was I!"
"That's not the point!"
"Indulge me then!"
They stare at each other, more confused than anything else and the silence between them is eating away at him.
"Tell me what I did," he pleads with a desperation that's unlike him while he instinctively reaches out for her hand although he knows it's a bad idea, "- so I won't repeat it next time."
He's right; it is a bad idea, because she immediately pushes his hand away with new-found flames in her eyes. "There won't be a next time," she says determinedly and with that, she gathers her shoes and storms out the door. Slams it shut.
***
She avoids him. Turns on her heel every time he enters a room, looks straight through him when they pass each other in the hallway, acts like they've barely even spoken a word - and he hates it! Hates the desperation, the emptiness of her face when he's the only one in the compound that knows her like this.
It reminds him of his lonely childhood when he would walk the golden halls of the palace alone, desperate for an ounce of the attention Thor was naturally given.
He gets the sudden urge to cause rampage like he did back then. Break treasured possessions, spread lies. But he's painfully aware that he's only at the tower as long as the Avengers want him there, so he behaves himself and tries to shove down the lonely howls from inside his chest.
***
Four days and seven excruciating encounters have to pass before she finally, graciously stands still long enough to let him speak to her.
It's a rainy afternoon and he's reading in the big winged chair by the fireplace when she unexpectedly comes into view.
She's walking back from the gym with her gaze fixed on the blonde man next to her, and as per usual, Loki's every muscle tightens by the sound of her voice alone, but this time it's for a whole different reason too because Steve Rogers is shirtless in all his virtuous glory and she's giggling at everything he's saying as they walk straight past Loki and disappear into the kitchen without sparing him a glance.
The silence that follows is deafening.
He knows that Rogers is the most vanilla man on Midgard - and definitely way too boring to satisfy her in bed - but the two of them have always been a little too chummy for his taste, so when Loki faintly hears Rogers call her sweetheart from the other side of the wall, there's no doubt he has to do something, so he pushes open the double doors to the kitchen, praying to the allfathers that he looks like a threat to the mighty Captain.
It's evident that Loki, ever so rudely, has just disturbed Rogers in the middle of a sentence but the guy is still so annoyingly polite that he nods respectfully in greeting.
Meanwhile, she only briefly looks up from her sandwich-in-the-making to shoot Loki an unimpressed glance before her eyes fall back down to her plate with a theatrical scoff. It makes Steve Rogers look curiously between the two of them with his eyebrows knitted closely together.
Loki gets the feeling that she's putting on an uncomfortable show only to get him to leave, but he's determined to talk to her so he stands his ground and starts flickering through the compound's tea selection achingly slowly just to piss her off.
"- what I mean is -" Steve Rogers continues as if Loki hasn't just barged in with daggers in his eyes. "I can teach you that leg takedown if you'd like? I'm sure Buck wouldn't mind sparring with Sam again some time later this week."
Loki pauses at Earl Grey and lets his gaze slip over to her.
"Yeah?" she hums with a cute little smile, "that sounds like fun. What about Tuesday?"
Her words have Steve Rogers nodding with excitement as he grabs his uninspiring ham-and-cheese sandwich from off the kitchen counter and walks towards the dining table in the next room. Even his tastebuds are bland. "It's a deal, sweetheart," he says.
Sweetheart. Loki's going to vomit.
He contains himself long enough to ensure the man's out of earshot until he angrily hisses out a "What are you doing?". He bites his tongue to stop himself from asking about whether she's interested in fucking the Captain or not. He has to tread carefully now that he finally has her on her own.
She sighs before looking up at him and he has to bite back a gulp when their eyes finally meet for longer than a tenth of a second. "...What do you want?"
"What do I want? I want to talk to you. I want to know what horrible thing I did to have you ignoring me like this!"
"I already told you," she crosses her arms over her chest. "You've gone soft."
"...Soft?" He repeats in disbelief while staring at her. Had this been any other situation, he might've even laughed. He's never been referred to as soft before. "Excuse me but did you hit your head?"
She rolls her eyes. "Don't pretend you haven't noticed."
"I have no idea what you're talking about."
"Loki..." she places her palms on the stone table top that serves as a physical barrier between them and looks him straight in the eye. It's dominatingly beautiful and it gives him the chills. "You've gone from hate-fucking me like a demon in heat to calling me your girl and telling me I'm beautiful."
"As if I would want to bed someone who looks like a trout!" He bites back, suddenly annoyed with her. She's right, of course, but it's not like he's about to let her know.
She responds to his clap-back with yet another sigh. "I thought we agreed it was a casual affair. No strings. And, granted, I hold some of the blame too; I probably should've stopped you when I started noticing your attitude towards me changing - I wasn't sure of anything, of course, but the slow-fucking?" She shoots him an unimpressed glance. "That one takes the cake!"
His mouth goes dry. "I don't understand what you're implying," he lies and it makes her scoff.
"Why can't you just admit that maybe the sex meant more to you than it did to me?"
He's taken aback by her bluntness. But it's her definitive use of the past tense that truly throws him off. He doesn't even have it in him to pretend otherwise, and with his silence, he's involuntarily admitting that the sex did indeed mean something to him. Exactly what, he's not sure of but something. He tries not to let it show.
"Loki," she cocks her head to the side with a lick of her lips and it makes it harder to pretend. "I'm not the girl for you. If you want to play house, I suggest you go find somebody else."
***
He dreams of black cats. Of Hel. Of feeling like the smallest man on earth while the Bifrost splinters before him and takes away the bridge to everything he loves.
It's been six days without a knock on his door. He shouldn't care that it's been this long - he doesn't, he constantly tells himself but keeps replaying their last conversation while the teeth of Fenrir sink into his lungs. He saved her - is that why she let him fuck her? Because she felt obligated to? Because of debt? It makes his heart burn.
"Loki."
He looks up at his brother and blinks a few times. Truth be told, he'd completely forgotten he was even there. "...What?"
"You're not listening."
"Yes, yes I was," he racks his brain for the last details he'd registered from Thor's gripping tale, but suspects he's been zoned out for at least five minutes.
Thor knits his eyebrows together, tilts his head disgustingly compassionately. "You're quiet," he states flatly and looks almost concerned. It makes the hairs on the back of Loki's neck prickle. He misses when Thor was less intuitive - before the Avengers, when all he cared about were tits and battle and wielding that stupid hammer.
"I don't remember asking your opinion."
"Just stating the obvious," Thor shrugs and thankfully goes back to the lamb chop on his plate, "one thing being that you're usually plotting something when you're this quiet - though something tells me your head is somewhere completely different as of late."
"Well if you want to keep yours connected to the rest your body, I suggest you keep your mouth shut."
His brother leans in close and looks as if he's about to say something vulgar. "It's her again, isn't it?" he whispers as if he doesn't dare speak her name.
"Thor," Loki warns with a sharp side-eye.
"You can tell me."
"I'm not going to."
"Why not?"
"Because you're being nosey."
"Can't I take an interest in my brother's well-being?"
"No. Now shut it!"
"I think she likes you."
It hurts more than he's willing to admit. "Thor!"
"But I do!"
"Shut up!"
He doesn't listen; "are you in love with her?"
A burning sea of vulnerability washes over him right in front of his brother's eyes while he desperately treads water. "She should be so lucky!" Loki hisses as a reflex and immediately feels his stomach churn when his brother grins and lifts his eyebrows in amusement.
"You are!"
Loki points his knife towards Thor, angrier than he's been in a while. "I'm only going to say this once! Stick your nose in my business and I will end you!”
***
They're on a mission in Vienna when Loki's knocked unconscious.
He doesn't remember much apart from an object hitting him on his upper back, a scream of his name - and suddenly, he's back on the rumbling quinjet with a splitting head ache.
He awakes with a groan and coughs up something black and slimy that he immediately spits out on the floor. Charming.
He's dizzy and he's seeing double but he wishes it was his sense of smell that was wonky because he can almost taste his brother's armpits in the air and it's revolting.
"Thor," his voice is hoarse and he coughs again while trying to remember how he ended up here. "What the hell happened?"
With difficulty, he tries lifting his head but is immediately pushed backwards by a hand already resting on his shoulder.
"You hit your head," his brother mumbles from beside him, "I had to carry you back here."
"Well that's embarrassing," Loki mumbles and tries moving his head again but hisses when his neck tenses painfully.
"Lie still," a small voice beckons. It's lighter than his brother's; more delicate, feminine, and the well-known flip of his insides shows its ugly face. Small fingers gently rub his shoulder and first then does he realise that it's not his brother's hand that's resting on his body.
"You're here?" He asks, confused while trying to focus on a spot in the ceiling. "And here I thought we were busy ignoring each other."
"I can keep doing so if you want me to," she says defiantly but sits completely still.
"Be my guest!"
"...Erm," Thor clears his throat in second-hand embarrassement, stands up from his position on the floor and points over his shoulder, "I have to - uh - be over... there."
Smooth.
The fingers that are resting on Loki's body feel more intimate now that they're alone, and he wonders if she can feel it too because she slowly retracts her hand although he wishes she wouldn't. A painful reminder of how she feels.
"Why are you here?" he bites.
"Thor was completely out of it," she says hesitantly, "He thought you were dead. He needed me."
"Thor needed you?” He scoffs, “Well, Thor's not here now so I guess you can leave."
She sighs loudly, "Do you really want me to leave?"
"Yes," he lies. He can still feel the warm spot that her fingers have left behind on his shoulder. It's getting colder now. "You made things quite clear the other day. It was a casual accquaintance, nothing else. There's really no need for you to pity me like this."
"You're hurt."
"I'm hurt? Yes I'm fucking hurt! It feels as if a bloody wall fell on me!"
"That's not what I meant..."
He moves his head through the pain, focuses on her the best he can. "Are you seriously fishing for a compliment right now?"
"W-what?"
"Do you want me to admit to whatever it is you're implying? It won't happen because contrary to your belief, I'm not in love with you." Another lie. "I saved you, you let me fuck you. We're even."
"That's not..." she starts but doesn't end her sentence. Her chest is heaving in heavy pants but she's not saying anything and the tension is thick again. She looks defiant but there's something she's not telling him.
"Was there something else?"
"No, I-"
"Then tell me what happened to my head or be on your way."
"I don't know what happened," she mumbles and gets up from the floor without sparing him a glance. "I wasn't there."
***
"It's a concussion," the new Doctor states the obvious and Loki has to contain himself from rolling his eyes.
"Great, can I go now?" He feels vulnerable enough without the diagnosis, and he's already half-way out the door - away from the prying eyes of the rest of the team.
"Hold up, mr Odinson," the Doctor says and the name feels like another dagger in his back. Loki wants to strangle him. "In your condition, it's important to take precautions."
"Don't tell me we have to start pampering him now!" Stark huffs and Loki's about to snarl something nasty back at him when Thor interrupts:
"Like what, Doctor?"
The Doctor turns back to Loki. "To prevent your condition from worsening, it's important that you take it easy for a couple of days. No TV, no straining exercise. You need rest."
"Right..."
"That being said, you have to make sure you're woken up every two hours. Have someone ask you a simple question like your full name, your birthday, the name of your home town."
"My home town?" He sighs. He doesn't want to think of Asgard right now. He feels lonely enough as it is.
"Something like that," the Doctor brushes it off with a shrug. "Do you have someone who can help you?"
"I assure you, that won't be necessary," Loki tries impatiently. He wants to get out of there. "After all, I am a God."
He can practically hear her rolling her eyes from behind him before she speaks up. "It's fine, Doc," she sighs, "I'll do it."
***
They're lying side by side on his mattress. It's three in the morning and it's the first time she's even in his room for anything other than sex. It's not not pleasant to be lying side by side in the dark, it's just different and neither of them know what to say. He doesn't like that she volunteered. He would've preferred dying in his sleep over the roaring silence.
He sneaks a quick peak at her beauty and accidentally lets out a sigh he thought only Thor was capable of and it seems to bring her to life.
She blinks and rolls over to her side, looks at him with distance in her eyes. "How are you feeling?"
"Dizzy..." he admits though he's not exactly sure if it's due to the concussion or being this close to her again.
"You should sleep," she says so achingly caring that it itches in his fingers to reach out and touch her. "- I'll make sure to wake you up every couple of hours and see if everything's okay."
He nods. "Sounds like you're in for a long night."
She gently shrugs and rolls onto her back again, stares back up at the ceiling. Her chest is rising and falling steadily and he doesn't understand how she can be so calm about the situation when it feels as if everything inside of him is burning with longing.
"Why did you volunteer?" the words tumble from his mouth without having been thought all the way through. "Why not just let Thor do it? He's my brother after all. He would've."
She chews her bottom lip, stares upwards as if stargazing. "I wanted to make sure you were okay."
She sounds sincere and he cannot help the furrow of his eyebrows. "Why?"
"Why?" She asks slowly, hesitantly. "Well... you've seemed out of it lately.”
"And you think it's your fault," it comes out more like a sour statement rather than a curious question so he's surprised to see pain behind her eyes when she finally turns her attention back on him.
"I know it is."
"Don't flatter yourself. I already told you it was merely sex for me. It didn't mean anything," he lies and regrets he even asked her in the first place. He wants to sleep. To get everything overwith and not stay in this moment of torture with her lying in his bed, rejecting him. Again.
"Come on," she sighs, "can't we just be honest for once?"
"You say that as if you've been dishonest...?"
"I guess I have," she hesitates and for once, he actually holds his tongue while she considers her next words. "I - uh - I get defensive when people get to close," she shuffles and looks away in embarrassement. "I guess it was easier to just push you away than admit to either of us what was going on. I tried telling you on the quinjet,” she slowly turns her gaze back on him with her eyes darting across his face. His heart picks up its pace.
"What are you saying?"
"Loki," she sighs and closes her eyes again. Speaks so painfully slowly that he almost cannot take it. "- you got close... When you slowed down and loved me that night, I - I felt it all. What I've been trying to deny."
"Felt what?" He tries as slowly as his racing pulse will allow him to speak. He doesn't want to scare her away again by assuming anything.
"I like you," she finally admits. "A lot."
Surprisingly, he's not even relieved. With the rollercoaster he's been through since he first met her, he's not sure he dares believe it, and a few seconds of silence follow between them while he carefully contemplates and chooses his next words.
On her request, he finally decides on telling her the truth. "I guess it wouldn't be too surprising if I admitted to the same thing."
She moves her head a little closer to him and places her hand between them. The smallest hint of a smile is playing on her lips. "Not really..."
A stab of a reminding thought pinches him beneath his ribs and he has to ask her. "You're not just saying this because you think you owe it to me, are you?" he nods to the scar on her shoulder "because I saved your life."
"No?" she furrows her eyebrows, searches his face.
"I don't want you to feel indebted to me. Despite what I told you back then, there were no ulterior motives to my actions. You don't owe me anything. I just did it to save you. I just wanted you to be okay.”
"Loki, I don't feel indebted," she lightly shakes her head. She looks sincere. "- do you really not remember what happened in Vienna?"
He slowly shakes his head. "Not really. An object hitting me in the back and someone yelling my name. Otherwise nothing."
"I did the yelling," she gulps, "and that object? That was a hand grenade."
"A hand grenade?"
She nods. Her eyes never leave his face. "You, me and Thor had just entered the grand hall of the embassy when it happened. You'd strayed off to the side to admire some painting."
It sounds like him.
"- I was behind you and saw it happen. It landed before your feet and without thinking, I just... lurched. Grabbed you and hurled the two of us forwards. You hit a stone column head-first."
He pulls back his head in surprise when he realises. “…you saved my life?”
It makes his blood pressure drop.
"Don't say it like that," she whispers with her breath fanning over his knuckles. "I merely gave you a concussion. The grenade turned out to be a squib after all."
"You didn't know that," he moves a little closer to her. She saved him and she's still here, still lying in his bed. It's not out of debt, he realises. Not at all. She's there because she wants to. "Darling... I don't know what to say."
"Don't say anything," she mumbles and opens her palm as if to welcome him. "Just kiss me, okay? I've missed you."
Everything inside of him goes soft. He feels squishy and warm and comfortable, and he could look at her forever.
He extends his fingers, engulfs her small hand inside his and dismisses the tension of his neck until their lips finally meet.
It's the gentlest they've ever kissed; lips barely touching, but it's the most heartfelt, the most sincere.
"I'm sorry for how I acted," she mumbles quietly against his mouth. "I really, really like you. I wasn't sure how to deal with that."
"It's okay," he whispers back, "we've all done things we're not proud of."
"Can you forgive me?"
"Of course," he smiles softly and reclaims her lips with the hope that he can show her exactly how crazy he is about everything that is her. His angry Avenger, his fiery goddess.
She saved him.
He feels the emotions pour out of both of them as their kiss deepens and he swears he can feel the allfathers blessing him as he jumps head-first into the burning sun; he can run with the wolves, fly with the ravens. And if Hugin and Munin are watching him from the great beyond, they'll tell all of Asgard that he, Loki Laufeyson, was worthy enough to be saved by a Valkyrie.

Loki x Reader • enemies to lovers
You never asked to be put on assignment with the one being you can't stand, and you certainly didn't ask to be called a shrew...
“Whatever anomaly you thought was out here Stark, is gone, if it ever was here.” Leaning forward in his chair, Loki pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed.
“Huh, my sensors have never been wrong before.” Tony’s voice crackled through the responder.
“I’m telling you there isn’t anything out here.” Loki hissed into the microphone again.
“You win some you lose some I guess, bring her on home, Reindeer games.” Flicking off the switch, Loki rolled his eyes at the nickname. He’d always found Stark’s pension for absurd names taxing. Turning towards the window of the shuttle Loki took a moment to observe as stars and meteors whirred past them through the expanse of space. Flipping a switch, Loki placed the craft on autopilot and leaned back in his chair. and Tap, tap. Loki closed his eyes and shifted in his seat. Tap, tap.
“Can you please stop.” Loki sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. Turning in your seat you narrowed your eyes at him.
“Stop what?” Tap, tap. Loki’s eyes drifted to the pen in your hand.
“That incessant clicking.” Raising a brow, you rubbed the top of the pen and gave him a sly grin.
“Does it bother you, Loki?”
“Yes.”
“Oh.” Shrugging your shoulders, you turned back towards the monitor in front of you. Loki leaned back in his chair and regarded you suspiciously. As the seconds ticked by, and you did nothing more than reach for one of the tablets, Loki closed his eyes and relished the silence. Tap, tap.
“Honestly, Y/N.” Loki leapt from his chair and towered over you. “Is it absolutely necessary for you to make that awful noise.” You slowly placed down your pen and folded your arms. Leaning forward in your chair, you came nose to nose with Loki and challenged his glower with an equally scathing look of your own.
“Maybe.” It had been like this ever since the two had met. You couldn’t recall a single time that you’d seen eye to eye or agreed on anything. Raising a brow, you took in his measure and smirked. A muscle twitched in his jaw, and fire flashed in his eyes. Yes, you’d been at each other like cats and dogs since the beginning, and as far as you were concerned, it could stay like that.
“You know what you are, Y/N?” Loki eased back, folding his arms. You felt your confidence waiver as you watched his features go bland. Though his face remained impassive, it was the spark in his eyes that brought you to your feet in challenge.
“What, Loki?” The pair were so lost in your irritation that youfailed to notice a blip on the screen.
“A shrew.” He whispered leaning closer. Your jaw dropped and you took a step back.
“I’m sorry, did you just call me a shrew?!
“If the shrew fits.” Loki grinned down at you. “Oh, I’m sorry,” Placing a hand over his heart, he shook his head before looking back up at you slowly. “I do believe the expression goes, ‘if the shoe fits.” Folding your arms, you barked out a laugh.
“Oh, yeah, well, Loki, you know what you are?”
“I’m dying to know.” Loki chuckled in amusement. Stepping closer so you were chest to chest, you glanced down at where your arms almost touched and leaned your head back and narrowed your eyes until they were practically slits. Leaning forward, he all but brushed your nose with his. “I’m waiting, darling.” A hitching sound in your throat drew his attention from your eyes to your lips. He’d never noticed how soft they looked. He wondered how they might feel against his…
“You’re a pain in my-“A piercing whistle split the air around you, drawing you out of your little trance. The shuttle began violently shaking, and you locked eyes with Loki just before the lights flickered out. Taking in your frantic expression, Loki reached out towards you.
“Y/N, take my hand!” Stretching out his hand, he shouted over the rattling sound of something pelting the hull of the shuttle. Your eyes flickered towards the ceiling before locking back on Loki. He stood with his hand outstretched, face firmed into a reassuring expression. Feeling the shuttle lurch sharply to the left, you blindly fished for his hand. A strong grip enfolded your hand just as the shuttle lurched to the right, sending you straight into the admittedly firm form of your cabin mate. You’d hardly had time to think about the warm arms that were wrapped around you before the cabin was engulfed in a bright light.
Loki tensed, wrapping his arms more tightly about you. Burying your face in his shoulder, you wrapped your own arms about his waist and clung to him. The light seemed to be growing brighter, and as it brightened, a strange sensation flowed through your body. Peeling your face away from his shirt, you looked into Loki’s eyes to see your own panic mirrored in his.
“Did you,” He nodded wordlessly. With a final rattle, the bright light dissipated, and the shuttle came violently to a stop. It wasn’t until the lights began to flicker back on and the alarms stopped that either of you realized that you were still wrapped around each other. Jumping apart, each of you attempted to correct your appearances. Turning away, you fiddled with the buttons on your shirt, all the while keenly aware of Loki’s eyes on you.
“Are you alright, Y/N?” His voice was laced with concern.
“Fine.” Clearing your throat, you rested a hand on the back of your chair and began examining the monitors. Still sensing that he hadn’t taken his eyes off you, tentatively you turned and looked at him over your shoulder. A lump caught in your throat at the blank look on his face. “Are you fine?”
“Perfectly.” His eyes met yours again. Something new flickered in his eyes, and while you weren’t exactly sure what it was, it started something flickering in your stomach, and you didn’t like that.
“Don’t look at me like that.” That might have come out more sharply than you’d intended. Wincing, you turned away to look back at the monitors.
“Look at you like what?”
“Never mind, Loki.” Leaning over the back of the chair, you squinted at something blipping on the screen.
“I’ll not be brushed off like an insect, Y/N.” Loki hissed, wrapping his fingers around your arm and spinning you so that you were once again nose to nose. “Like what?” Narrowing your eyes, you glanced at his grip on your arm and jerked free of him.
“Loki? Y/N? Are you there?” Turning away again, you fumbled for the transmitter microphone.
“Tony, we’re here.” A relieved sigh could be heard from the other side.
“Thank God, are you alright?” Glancing over your shoulder you noticed Loki had taken up his position at the controls.
“Yeah, we should be back in a couple of hours.” Another sigh.
“See you then.” Flipping the switch, you leaned back in your chair and swiveled to look at Loki.
“Loki,” Holding up a hand he turned towards you.
“I am too exhausted for anymore of your prattle.”
“My prattle? What is that supposed to mean, Loki.”
“Y/N.” Ignoring the warning note in his voice, you rose from your chair, and along with you rose your voice.
“No, you know what, you’ve been on my case for months now.” Rushing forward you stopped short before him and jabbed a finger in his face. “What’s your problem, Odinson.” Loki looked cooly from your finger to your firey expression.
“Agent L/N, right now my problem is you and your soul sucking attempts at an argument.” Now it was his turn to rise from his seat. Taking a step forward, he pushed you back with his form looming menacingly over yours. Retreating you dropped into your chair. “Now, as to your problem, Agent L/N,” Pausing, Loki leaned forward resting his arm on the back of your chair.
“My problem?” You blinked incredulously, tensing as he brought his face centimeters from yours. The dark grin that crossed his face did nothing to ease your worries.
“Your problem, Agent,” You bristled when he brought his thumb to graze over your bottom lip. Watching the motion of his finger’s path, Loki continued. “Is that you clearly haven’t, shall we say, had your rice cooked in a while.” Pulling back, he gave you a triumphant smile. Flexing your jaw, you felt your face go florid.
“Loki Odinson are you suggesting that my problem is,” Sputtering, you couldn’t finish the sentiment.
“That you need a good romp in the sheets, darling, but as I said, that’s your problem.” Folding his arms, Loki shrugged and grinned again. Jumping from your seat you met him toe to toe and crossed your arms.
“And I suppose you think you’re the answer to my problem?” Loki’s eyes danced with amusement as he leaned towards you.
“Darling, I would dance for our colleagues in the nude while singing bawdy tavern songs before I would put my cock in you.”
“Why I never,” You sputtered.
“That’s obvious.” After several attempts to open and close you mouth with no sound coming out, you huffed and stomped back to your seat. Thankfully the next two hours passed with no more words exchanged between you. As soon as your shuttle landed, you stormed through the doors without a second look at Loki.
“Y/N!” You tensed before being lifted off the ground into a back breaking hug by Thor.
“Thor.” Gasping for air, you tapped several times on your friend’s arm. Quickly he placed you on the ground but didn’t completely release you.
“Duchess, glad to see you made it back in one piece.” Tony walked towards the shuttle, glancing up at you from his tablet.
“Glad to be back in one piece.” Glancing towards the shuttle you noticed Loki exiting and quickly averted your gaze.
“Once you two get cleared by Bruce, we’ll need to go over what happened up there.” Against your will, your eyes flickered back to Loki only to find his already trained on you.
“I’d like for those interviews to be separate if that’s all the same to you, Tony.” You gave Loki a final scathing look before turning back to Tony. Furrowing his brows, he tucked the tablet under his arm and hooked a hand into his pants pocket.
“Everything okay?” Again you glared at Loki.
“Ask him.” Turning you started towards the lab, Thor hot on you trail.
“Everything looks fine.” Bruce unwound the pressure cuff from your arm.
“The ‘zing’ I felt when the bright light flashed through the cabin?” You paused from swinging your legs over the edge of the med bed and cocked your head to the side. Folding the pressure cuff, Bruce stopped to look up at you.
“I didn’t see anything out of the ordinary, but if you develop new symptoms, come back to see me, okay?” Nodding your head, you gave him a warm smile.
“So I’m gonna live, doc?” Bruce chuckled.
“I’m afraid so, Y/N.” Groaning playfully, you swung off the side of the med bed, and as your feet hit the floor, Loki came strolling into the lab. Bristling, you diverted your attention back towards Bruce.
“Thanks, Bruce.”
“Of course, Y/N.” He’d turned his attention back to writing something on a clipboard. Averting your eyes, you started to pass Loki when you were overcome with a wave of lightheadedness.
“Careful, Y/N.” Loki whispered, reaching out to steady you with a hand on your arm. Narrowing your eyes up at him, you jerked away from his touch and staggered.
“You stay away from me, Odinson, and I’ll stay away from you.” Gritting your teeth, you pressed a hand to your head and glared at him.
"Fine by me." He hissed, clenching his fist by his side. Loki watched as you attempted to march out of the lab on unstable legs.
“By the Norns, Loki, what did you do to vex her so?” Thor broke the silence, sliding up behind his brother.
“It’s rude to eavesdrop, Thor.” Loki folded his arms and kept a concerned eye trained on your retreating form as the lab doors flapped shut.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The tears in your eyes cloud your vision. Loki stares at you in shock. All he can see is a shell of the woman he met before. The woman with fire and passion, cursing out a king, purely feeding off of bravery and survival instinct. He realizes that it was a defence mechanism created to hide her true pain beneath.
You feel the walls within you building back up, brick by brick around your heart. Closing yourself off from everything. Until you feel nothing again. The tears stop, your heart rate slows, your hands are dry. All you can do is blink and stare out the window. It's like your brain goes into autopilot; shielding you from the trauma and pain you've endured.
You rise from the chair quickly "I apologize, your highness. This has all been an overreaction. I am sorry for bothering you. I will now take my leave." You turn towards the door but you're met with a blank wall.
What?
You feel his hand gently grab your wrist.
"I know what you're doing. You're shielding yourself from the emotional pain. I know that look all too well. I mastered it, myself." He approaches you slightly, closing the gap between you.
"So you're solution is to lock me in here?!"
His eyes glistened as he spoke "Stop. Please, don't push me out, believe me. " Your breath hitches in your throat.
The king is pleading me to believe him?
Before you can answer you feel his thumb gently grasp your chin to lock in your gaze.
"I promise. He will pay for everything he did to you. I will seek it myself. However, I need to know what he did..." Loki softly says to you, his eyes burning with pure sincerity.
You don't know why but the glare in his eyes lit a fire in your heart you thought was extinguished and irreparable. When you looked at him, you could see a green aura surrounding him. You weren't afraid, you were enamoured by it. You felt this gravitational pull...You felt... warmth and tranquility; something you haven't felt in a very long time.
"Okay. I believe you." you breathe out.
The intensity of your words weighed heavy on Loki's heart. He knew a woman like you, trusted nobody but herself.
You don't know why but you feel this urge to tell him everything, from the moment you reached the castle until now. The abuse, the attempted rapes, the whipping, the pain and suffering.
When you finish explaining your truth, living as a maid, all Loki could do was listen to you intently, absorbing everything you say, never faltering. You had his undivided attention.
"Why didn't Banner ever mention it?......" Loki questions aloud.
"I told him not to. He promised he wouldn't. Banner keeps his word."
"Why didn't tell anyone? Why let yourself suffer all this time?" his green eyes are bright with emotion, almost as though he can feel your pain.
"Do you think anyone would believe me? Even if I did, Why would they say anything to oppose him? He is the pure essence of evil. Everybody fears him, nobody defies him without consequence. He says every action is ordered by YOU, the KING, might I remind you! Do you think ANY of us even THOUGHT of questioning that? Do you think anybody would bat and eyelash if I were to suddenly disappear? They would replace me the next day with no further thought. I've been gone for so long by now, they probably have done just that. We are enslaved to the crown. We have no rights. We are treated as objects who are easily replaceable. When you need this job to survive with basic necessities on a daily basis, you become numb to it all."
Loki stares at you, mouth slightly agape. His mind couldn't wrap itself around the fact that he failed you, he failed his people.
The king is speechless. That's a first.
Loki was calm on the outside but raging severely on the inside. He could not fathom how this could be happening within his castle walls without his knowledge.
He suddenly felt this uncontrollable rage bubbling up inside him. His hands began to glow green as he attempted to contain his emotions.
What is happening? I haven't reacted like this since I was a teenager.
Your story was replaying in his head, over and over again as he stared out his window, trying to contain his powers to not scare you away.
How DARE HE touch even one hair on her head. I will make him pay for this.
His hands grew brighter with every thought of you suffering by his hands. He felt this intense urge to protect you, to regain vengeance on the pain he has caused you.
He suddenly spins on his heel and walks towards you, placing a gentle hand your cheek. "Believe me when I say that none of this was my doing. I never ordered any of these commands. They are foolish dogs who managed to loosen their leashes without me noticing. I will make him pay. All of them." he hissed through gritted teeth.
Before you can retort he cuts you off.
"You shall stay in the chambers besides mine. You will be safe." he says before he disappears into the thin air and you appear into chambers you do not recognize.
What did I just do?

Who Did This To You?
Summary: You'd grown up with the Princes of Asgard. They were your friends. And sure, things weren't always as sweet as pie with the God of Mischief, but you could trust him.
I'm a slut for (vaguely) enemies to lovers and the "Who did this to you?" trope, but really, who isn't?
Of course, that means someone did something bad, so here's your warning for attempted sexual assault.
18+ only, MDNI.

Read on Ao3 // Part Two
The slap of your feet on the cool stone echoed around the palace walls, the familiarity of your surroundings lost as the fear distorted the maze in front of you. Their yells seemed to follow you even as the distance between you grew, your ragged breaths doing nothing to drown out their voices. You skidded around the corner, lifting the skirt of your dress as you ran up the stairs, up and up until at last you recognised the floor you were on. The rational part of your brain hadn’t caught up yet, you were moving purely on instinct as the tears spilled down your cheeks.
Finally, the dim light of the palace grew brighter, and you had to swallow down the bile in your throat as the guards turned to you, eyebrows drawn together as they took in your dishevelled appearance. Your lungs burned for air, your legs struggling to keep up with the fear driving you on. One of the guards reached out an arm to stop you, but you slipped past his grasp as he called out to you. The thud of boots behind you as they followed sent another wave of nausea through you, and you stumbled, your hands grazing the stone beneath you as they broke your fall.
The door ahead of you creaked open, and you lifted your head to meet the gaze of your prince.
—----
The trickle of blood was warm down your leg as you blinked back tears, trying your best to ignore the stinging of your knees as you pushed yourself to your feet. You rounded quickly on Loki, your palm connecting with his cheek with a satisfying CRACK.
He stumbled back, cradling his face in shock. “How dare you! I am your prince-”
“I don’t care if you’re a prince! You’re an arse, is what you are!”
Thor’s chuckle echoed from behind you and you spun around to him, embarrassment heating your face. The golden prince raised a brow at you. “You may be right, Y/N, but you probably shouldn’t say it quite so loudly.”
You bit your lip, looking up at the palace that sparkled in the sunlight. You flicked your eyes back down at Thor. “He pushed me.” You couldn’t help the petulance that laced your words.
Thor frowned at the boy behind you. “Brother, you shouldn’t hurt a Lady.”
You heard Loki’s snort. “Look at her, she certainly doesn’t look like one.”
It was your turn to frown, and you turned to him as you fumbled with the knot you had tied your skirts in around your thighs. “Well I couldn’t exactly race you if I was tripping over my dress, now could I?”
Loki sneered, crossing his arms over his chest. “You still lost.”
“Because you cheated!”
“Sshh!” Thor’s hushing stopped you mid-march towards Loki, and it was then that you heard the quiet chatter of your mother and the Queen.
You dipped into a low curtsey as the pair appeared along the path, arms linked together in friendship. “Your Majesty.”
“Lady Y/N.” Queen Frigga greeted with a smile, “We thought we might find you all out here.”
Your mother pulled away from the Queen, extending her hand to you. “Come, let us leave Her Majesty to talk to her sons.”
You took her hand with a well-practised smile, curtseying to the royals in turn. “Your Majesty, Your Royal Highness, Your Royal Highness.” Thor and Loki struggled to contain their amusement at your manners; having grown up together you only ever bothered to refer to them by their proper titles in the presence of others.
You walked away arm in arm with your mother, barely listening as she chatted enthusiastically about your closeness with the princes. Instead, your mind wandered to what bribes you could offer Thor to fill Loki’s bed with raw fish.
—--
You panted beneath Archer’s touch, his hands firm on your waist as he nipped at your throat. Your eyes flew open as you bit your lip to hide your smile in the moonlight. It was Archer, wasn’t it? Or was it Hunter? You swallowed your giggle as you considered the absurdity of your own forgetfulness, your distracted mind not noticing the glimmer of magic at the corner of your vision.
The boy pulled away, searching for your lips, but you planted your hands on his chest, batting your eyelashes at him. “I should get back before they notice I’m gone.” You murmured, smiling at his protests. “I’ll see you soon, okay?”
You pushed off the tree and out of his grasp before he could say another word, making your way back onto the path and up towards the palace. You managed to avoid anyone of importance, slipping into your chambers unnoticed.
You sighed as you took in Loki’s nonchalant expression as he reclined back on your couch, his feet propped up on the coffee table before him as he lifted a goblet to his lips. “It’s quite improper to let yourself into a Lady’s rooms, you know.”
The God of Mischief smiled wickedly at you, eyeing you up as you made your way over to the mirror, inspecting your reflection for any signs of dishevelment. “And you know how much I love all things improper.”
You rolled your eyes, choosing to ignore him. “Is Thor still walking me down to dinner?”
“Of course, who else would escort the birthday girl?” Loki sat up, resting his elbows on his knees as he watched you smooth out your dress. “Lady Y/N, finally of age… All of the Lords will be scrambling to court you.”
You snorted, turning to him with a smirk. “Let them. You know I’m not-”
“I wonder what they’ll say when they find out you’ve been whoring yourself out to a servant,” Loki said frankly, watching you over the rim of his goblet as he took a sip. You opened and closed your mouth in shock, before his visage shimmered and faded. A warm body pressed against your back as an arm wrapped around your waist, his other hand tucking your hair behind your ear as you stood frozen. Loki’s breath tickled your neck as he whispered in your ear, “You really should be more careful, darling, anyone could have happened upon your little meeting in the woods.”
You silently scolded your body for the reaction to his touch, a shiver creeping up your spine. He was teasing you, mocking you, enjoying the proximity of your bodies contrasting your mutual dislike for each other. You pulled away with a frown. He let you go, watching as you picked up his discarded goblet and downed the contents. You winced at the burn in your throat, coughing. “You’re such an arse.”
Loki smirked at your words, pulling a flask from his pocket as he made his way over to you. He poured the amber liquid into the goblet in your hand as you jabbed a finger into his chest. “Don’t you dare say a word to anyone.”
“Would I really do that?” He raised an eyebrow at you and reached for the goblet. You pulled it away from him with a pout.
“Promise me, Loki.”
“You have my word, darling,” He smiled, tracing his thumb over your cheek. You frowned once again at his mocking and stepped back, but he caught the hand that was wrapped around the goblet. “I think you’d better give that back.”
“Why?”
“It’s not meant for your delicate mortal body.”
“I’m not delicate-” Your childish rebuke cut off as all the blood seemed to rush to your head at once, and you swayed on the spot. Loki took the goblet from you, nudging you back onto the couch.
The prince hummed as he considered you, “I probably should have stopped you before you finished the glass.” He sat down next to you with a sigh and you bounced slightly. “Oh well.”
You closed your eyes as the dizziness began to subside, reaching out a thump and meeting Loki’s arm with a satisfying thud. “Don’t pretend you’re sorry.” You could practically hear his smug grin.
A knock sounded at the door and you opened your eyes. “Come in.”
Thor strode into the room, bowing absurdly low before you. “Happy Birthday, Y/N.”
You giggled, standing up and offering your hand to him to kiss. He did so with a wink, pulling you to tuck your hand in the crook of his arm. “How are you this evening?”
“I’m well, thank you.”
“My brother hasn’t been pestering you, has he?”
You ignored Loki’s snort of indignation. “No more than usual.”
—--
Your mother fussed with your hair as you stood outside of the banquet hall, rowdy cheers echoing down the hallway from the feast. You batted her hands away. “It’s fine, mother. Let us go in, I’m dying to say hello to the Princes.”
“They only become more handsome with each new victory under their belt, don’t they?” She smiled as if she knew what you were thinking.
“Oh, do leave it be, mother.” You rolled your eyes.
“You’re not getting any younger, dear. You could do much worse than a Prince of Asgard.” She looked at you pointedly and you huffed, pulling her into the hall.
You curtseyed to the King and Queen, and left your mother with Frigga. You made your way down the hall, nodding to those that greeted you, until a familiar booming voice called your name. Thor waved you over, motioning away one of the lords to make room next to him and you curtseyed to him before sitting down. He pulled you under his arm in a hug and you laughed, thanking him as he poured you a glass of wine.
“How have you been, Lady Y/N?”
You took a sip of your wine, glancing at Loki as he sat opposite you, immersed in conversation. You were thankful to avoid his sneer at yours and Thor’s affections. “I’m well! I’m afraid I have nothing new to tell you,” you smiled at the golden prince, “I can imagine that you have plenty of stories to tell me, though.”
Thor needed no more encouragement than that, and launched into a battle story that was sure to become legend as you waved over a server to refill the jugs of wine.
You lost track of time as you listened to his stories, laughing with your friends. Loki joined in occasionally, barely sparing you a glance. You hated to admit that his lack of acknowledgement stung; it wasn’t as if you were best friends, but you had always thought you shared a unique understanding of each other, having spent most of your childhood together.
You flicked your gaze to the guards, who were trying their best to act as if they couldn’t hear the sounds of destruction coming from the prince’s chamber. You offered them a polite smile, asking them if they might give you some space.
When you entered Loki’s rooms, they looked as if they had been ransacked. Chairs were overturned, a vase of fresh flowers lay shattered on the ground, and a seething prince paced the length of the room. The various stacks of books lay untouched, you noticed, and you tried not to smile. Even when he was angry, Loki couldn’t bring himself to destroy anything of importance.
You picked up a chair, setting it down properly and taking a seat. You waited for him to speak.
“Their favouritism knows no bounds.” Loki hissed, mostly to himself.
You grimaced; of course it was this again. “What happened?”
“They’re throwing a feast! In his honour!” He spun towards you, lifting his arms in exasperation. “They didn’t even mutter a ‘thank you’ in my direction!” He laughed dryly. “He couldn’t even remember the ambassador’s name, the oaf. I had to step in and charm my way out of war. And then he somehow befriends them, turns the whole trip around, and I’m long forgotten, once again!”
“You shouldn’t call your brother an oaf.”
“Of course you’d take his side.” Loki sneered, stepping towards you.
“I’m not. I just don’t see the point in resenting him when it’s your Father that has angered you.” You didn’t break his gaze. Most would cower under the angry gaze of the god, but he didn’t scare you. You still remembered him pre-puberty. There was nothing scary about a spoiled little boy.
You looked around the room at the destruction. “You should clean this up before anyone sees.”
The god leaned over you, placing his hands on the arms of the chair and caging you in. “Don’t tell me what to do.”
You looked at him unwaveringly, and he held your gaze with fire in his eyes, until it eventually died down. He sighed, pulling away and waving his hand. The room righted itself, and you hid your self-satisfied smirk. Instead, you stood, making your way over to him and resting your hand on his arm.
“It’s not fair, Loki, I never said it was. But you can’t give them a reason to scold you. Continue being the best you can be, and eventually they’ll have to notice.”
Loki offered you a small smile. “I preferred it when you were annoying.”
Soon, the hall began to empty, and your mother took up an empty seat next to you as Loki excused himself. You watched him go, dropping your gaze to your mother.
She wasted no time in getting to the point. “Her Majesty says that she is keen to get her sons courting, to take them away from their laddish behaviour.”
You had to stop yourself from groaning. “They’re not as laddish as you think,” you said, ignoring her obvious point.
She looked at you, unamused. “Y/N, you can’t refuse to court forever-”
“I think I shall follow Prince Loki’s sense and retire for the night, I am rather tired.” You interrupted her, standing up and kissing her on the cheek. “Goodnight, mother.”
You strode from the room before she could stop you, leaning against the wall outside to take off your heels and give your aching feet a rest. It was late enough that you were unlikely to be seen carrying your shoes, and you padded contentedly down the corridor, thinking of your bed and a glass of warm milk.
Taking a detour, you hoped to bump into a servant to request the comforting drink. You took your time, but didn’t see anyone, and so decided to head down a floor in search of assistance. The sound of laughter greeted you as you descended and you hurried towards the sound, eager to get back to your room.
Two guards stood to attention when they saw you, stifling their smiles as they nodded. “Can we help you, M’Lady?” One asked.
You smiled at them and opened your mouth to speak, but the second guard interrupted you. “Or maybe you can help us.” He smirked, nudging the other one. They shared a look before turning to you.
You frowned in confusion as they stepped towards you, but you barely had time to process the predatory look in their eyes before they grabbed you, pulling you into a darkened alcove. One pulled you back against him, his hand over your mouth to muffle your screams as he used his other arm to pin your arms to your sides. You dropped your shoes as you struggled against him, squeezing your legs together as the other one lifted your skirt, his rough hands dragging against your thighs. Your heart thumped loudly in your chest as fear and disbelief coiled painfully in your stomach.
He pulled a dagger from its sheath, trailing the cold blade against the exposed skin on your chest, and you yelped against the hand on your mouth as he pressed it into your flesh, drawing blood. He collected it on the tip and brought it to his mouth, licking it off.
They both panted in excitement and the one in front of you chuckled quietly. “I’ve always wanted to fuck a real lady.” He shoved his leg between yours, pressing the dagger against your thigh. “Wonder if your cunt feels any better than the whore’s down the inn.”
You squeezed your eyes shut against his hungry gaze, tears cascading down your cheeks. This couldn’t be happening, it had to be some kind of awful dream. How had your wonderful night turned so awful so quickly? You were about to be raped, helpless against two armed men.
“Erik? Gunnar?” A voice called out, and the two men froze. Your eyes flew open and you watched as the guard in front of you slid the dagger back in its sheath, your skirt falling back down as he stepped out of the alcove.
The other guard held you tight, but your heart filled with hope and desperation. Surely you could take on one guard? You certainly couldn’t give up on what might be your only chance.
Slowly, you reached out your foot, searching for your shoes. When you found one, you slid it on, stamping on the guard's foot as hard as you could. It didn’t do as much as you’d wanted with him wearing boots, but it was enough that you could duck down out of his grasp. He latched onto your dress before you could make it more than a few feet away, and you spun around, digging your nails into any skin you could find, scratching until you drew blood. He swore loudly as his grip loosened.
You fled as fast as you could.
Finally, the dim light of the palace grew brighter, and you had to swallow down the bile in your throat as two guards turned to you, eyebrows drawn together as they took in your dishevelled appearance.
Loki took in the fear in your eyes, your tear-stained face, the bleeding cut on your chest, all in an instant. He moved quickly, silently helping you to stand before picking you up into his arms before your legs could give way. He cradled you to him as he moved you through his rooms and part of you wanted to lean into his warmth, the strangely comforting scent of him, but you couldn’t get the thought of the two guards out of your head.
He sat you on the edge of his bed and reached for your shaking hand. You let him take it, your sobs turning into shallow hiccups as you watch his thumb trace calming circles on your skin. As you calmed, you finally met his gaze, watching the storm behind his eyes.
He stood and you watched him through bleary eyes, waiting for him to laugh and make you leave. Your mind was racing, your heart hammering with adrenaline, and all you wanted to do was crawl into a corner and screw your eyes shut against the pain in your head.
Instead of laughing, Loki went to the bathroom, the sound of running water filling the room. When he returned, he pulled a chair over and sat opposite you.
“Who did this to you?” The words were quiet, but firm.
You couldn’t stop the sobs that wracked your body at his words, the terrible gasps you made for air as tears began to stream once again. You couldn’t see the pain on his face as he watched you shake, yearning to reach out and comfort you.
The images replayed in your head, and you cried harder as you realised that he was watching them too, searching your mind for the answers he wanted. You could feel his boiling rage before he closed the connection.
“Here’s what’s going to happen.” His words were cold, and some part of you knew that he was protecting you from his true emotions, but you couldn’t help the painful pang in your chest at the thought that his anger might be directed at you. You swallowed the sob in your throat to let him continue. “You will go and have a bath, and stay as long as you need. I will have a maid fetch your things and bring them to you. You will sleep here tonight, under my protection. Understood?”
You’d never taken orders from him, and normally you’d laugh at him for even trying to boss you around. But you ached to feel the warm envelopment of the water, and you knew there was nowhere safer to be.
You bit your lip and nodded, standing on shaky legs. Loki reached out a hand to steady you, but you flinched at his touch. He withdrew it immediately, watching you silently as you half-stumbled to the bathroom and closed the door.
You stripped as quickly as you could with your shaking hands, determined not to let yourself break until you were in the bath. The water was too hot, but you welcomed the burn as you sunk in, the tears streaming silently down your face.
You held yourself tightly, as if you could stop yourself from falling apart completely. When you noticed the blood caked under your nails, you had to swallow the bile in your throat, hiding your hands beneath the bubbles as you scrubbed them.
A quiet knock sounded at the door and you struggled to find your voice to call them in as you crossed your arms over your chest. You averted your eyes as the maid placed down your things, collecting your dress. She stopped at the door and you looked up at her.
She bit her lip nervously and gestured to the dress. “His Royal Highness says to get rid of this, M’Lady.”
You swallowed hard and looked away. “Burn it.”
—----
Despite your protests, Loki insisted on you sleeping in his bed, and you watched as he settled himself on the couch. You fell asleep quickly, the lack of adrenaline leaving you both mentally and physically exhausted. It didn’t last as long as you’d hoped, and you woke up as the birds started singing, the sky still dark.
The tears leaked silently onto the pillow, and you found yourself afraid of your own thoughts. It’s as if you could still feel the two guards’ hands on you, and you absentmindedly traced your fingers over the cut on your chest. You sniffled, sitting up on the bed and wiping your nose.
You could make out Loki’s long form in the low light, his feet propped up over the edge of the couch as he slept. You didn’t think as you stood up, your aching legs carrying you gingerly over to him, stopping barely a foot away. You ran your eyes over his form, his dark hair splayed on the pillow, down to his softly parted lips. Your gaze lingered on the exposed skin of his chest as the top of his night shirt splayed open, watching the soft rise and fall of his breaths.
Why had you run here? Was this really where your subconscious had carried you? Why hadn’t you run to Thor? You bit your lip as you thought. You didn’t want Thor to see you like this. You’d never truly been vulnerable around him. And despite your best efforts, Loki had seen a side to you that most hadn’t, on more than one occasion.
You frowned down at your book as Loki sat down in the armchair opposite you, hoping that he would take the hint and leave you alone.
“I see you’ve already given up on the literature I recommended to you.”
You sighed, sparing him a glance. “I finished it.”
“All three novels?” He quirked an eyebrow at you.
“Yes.” You couldn’t hide your annoyance, trying once again to actually take in the passage in front of you.
“I didn’t know you could read so quickly.”
You knew he was only teasing, but the words stung, the comments from your tutor too fresh in your mind. You swallowed thickly, blinking back tears as you willed yourself not to cry in front of him.
Loki sighed. “I’m only winding you up, Y/N.”
“Well don’t!” You slammed your book shut, standing up with a huff. Loki caught your arm as you stormed past.
“What’s wrong?”
You bit your lip, knowing it was futile to pretend you were fine. Still, you didn’t particularly want to pour your heart out to him.
“My tutor says that we should stop our lessons. That I read too much and it doesn’t do a girl any good to be too smart.”
Loki dropped your arm and you sighed at his expression.
“I’ll be fine, Loki.” Your reassured him. “I’m just being over-dramatic.” You turned away and left the library quickly, sure that you’d embarrassed yourself enough for one day.
The next morning your mother informed you that Queen Frigga had recommended a new tutor, insisting that ‘young ladies should always be able to explore their potential’.
Despite your differences and your difficulties, you found you did trust Loki. You knew that he would never hurt you. You flicked your gaze back up to his face, your breath catching in your throat as you found him watching you.
“I can’t sleep.” You whispered.
He didn’t say anything, sitting up and gesturing for you to sit beside him. You sat, fiddling with the sleeve of your nightgown. Finally, he spoke.
“What do you need?” His words were soft, quiet.
You thought for a moment, your mind clinging to a ridiculous idea, a childish need for reassurance. You couldn’t bring yourself to say the words, instead looking at him and tapping your forehead with your finger.
He understood instantly, and you felt him searching your thoughts. Part of you expected him to laugh at the notion, but instead he offered you a small smile and reached out a gentle hand, tugging you to him.
You fell onto his chest, his arm around your shoulders, and your heart beat rapidly in your chest. It should have felt strange, being in Loki’s arms, but you found yourself melting into his warmth. You felt him rest his chin on your head, and realised just how comforting it was to be held by him.
—----
You didn’t realise you had fallen asleep until you woke to sunlight streaming in the windows. You blinked slowly, flicking your gaze to the couch to see it empty. Lifting your head, you found yourself resting on Loki’s chest, enveloped in his embrace. He must have carried you to the bed.
You wanted to be embarrassed, mortified even, but couldn’t find the energy to care as you stretched your muscles, finding yourself content in that moment.
Then, the memories of the night before came flooding back, and you breaths grew quicker. You felt like you couldn’t breathe, and you sat up quickly, gasping for breath as you hyperventilated. You crawled off the bed, sliding onto the floor as you held yourself, trying to catch your breath.
Loki moved to the edge of the bed silently, and you felt him spread his legs behind you. He pulled you back to him, your back to the edge of the bed as you sat between his legs. He tilted your head up, his fingers kneading at your temples.
“Close your eyes,” he said quietly, and you obeyed, focusing on the feeling of his fingers. Your breathing began to slow, and you tried to untense your shoulders as you allowed him to ground you.
You stayed like that for a while, until you felt relaxed enough to open your eyes. You tilted your head up, looking up at him.
He smiled, a rare smile that wasn’t cruel or mocking, and it fluttered something in your chest.
“You should go and get ready, I’ll have breakfast brought to your chambers.”
You instinctively grabbed his hand in an iron grip. “Come with me,” you whispered, the thought of being alone sending a shock of panic through you. You didn’t want to think about how quickly your dynamic had changed, how much you needed him all of a sudden.
“Of course.” He squeezed your hand, before sliding out from behind you. You watched him change before your eyes, a glimmer of magic, and he was now dressed for the day and looking as if he hadn’t slept on a couch for half the night.
He collected your robe from the back of the chair, offering it to you. You slid it on, thankful for your chambers not being too far, a perk of being the Queen’s favourites.
The walk seemed slow, your legs tired from the night before, and you kept your eyes down, willing to get there as quickly as possible. As you passed a couple of maids chatting on their way to the Prince’s rooms, you found yourself turning to them, something in their conversation tugging at your brain.
“What did you just say?” You interrupted, not realising you had stopped.
“Oh! Your Royal Highness!” They curtseyed to Loki before turning to you. “M’Lady,” they curtseyed again before sharing an anxious look.
“We were just saying what a shame it was, M’Lady.”
“What do you mean?” You asked, tilting your head. You felt Loki stop behind you.
“About the two guards. They were found this morning, ‘said they drank too much and went for a swim and were found washed up on the river bank.”
Loki must have gestured behind you because the maids dipped into a curtsey and hurried away. Your hands were shaking when you turned back to him. Loki gently tilted your chin up with his fingers, and you found his eyes dark and stormy.
“No one will ever hurt you again, my love.”

enemies to lovers au where the hero and the villain always seem to have a bit too much chemistry to the point that the fights seem to just be an excuse to see each other more often. they flirt while in battle. they go through very typical enemies to lover trope plot points where the villain stops other villains from hurting the hero, where the hero defends the villain against other heroes. eventually, villain becomes less evil and destructive because its not fun when the hero actually gets hurt. eventually, the hero puts down their suit because they want to rest and stop worrying their partner. eventually, they just become the story of a retired hero and a reformed villain. a superhero/supervillain enemies to lovers au with a happy ending.
then the au continues when, decades later, suddenly, one day, the villain is back being evil, causing destruction. doesn't seem to be actually causing harm to civilians, but reports are flooding in that it seems to be getting real close to hurting people.
the new band of heroes respond to the threat very quickly, but they're all quite determined to get close to the villain to actually talk to them. it was hard, so very difficult to pass through the number of challenges the villain has surrounded themself with, but one of the members of the team gets close enough.
"stop this!" the young hero begs
the villain turns with eyes red and tired. "you're not my hero"
"i'm not." the young hero was mentored by the old one though. years ago. so this young hero knew this reformed villain that wasnt acting quite reformed.
"i will stop when they get here." the villain answers. "they always stopped me, you know."
but the old hero won't come back. they're gone, passed away. not killed, because retribution would have been quick. blame is easier to place on its rightful owner. but one way or another, the old hero has died. in fact, the young heroes just came from the funeral that the villain failed to attend.
this would be the denial in the stages of grief. where the villain deludes themself into thinking the hero would just come back. a stage of desperation where they remember how they first met and try to recreate it so it happens again and they come back.
but they won't. because they're gone.

The Good Kind (President Loki x GN!Reader)
Summary: You and Loki are rivals. Then why did he never harm you? Why did he never truly want you dead? Loki is complicated, but underneath it all… Perhaps he was more simple than you expected. (Enemies to Lovers vibe, slow burn, kinda angsty?)
Rating: SFW, All ages
Warnings: Mentions of blood, stab wound
A/N: Okay, this took me far too long to finish. Don’t know if I’m completely satisfied but I just cannot give anymore brain power to this idea lmao. Probably would’ve worked better as a fic series but like I just can’t mentally give that! Hope you enjoy!
Surviving in the void was… Well, how do you think surviving in the void was?
Cruel, harsh, dangerous…
You get the idea.
But it was especially difficult when you had rivals. In a place where everything came to die, still there was time for such things. It all seemed rather futile and pointless… But… Perhaps it made the days go by a little faster - or ‘void days’ anyway. Funnily enough, time moved differently at the end of time.
One of the most common variants found in the Void were Loki’s. Truly, take a walk for a few minutes and eventually you’d come across one. But the problem with encountering a Loki is trying to figure out whether they were the ‘good kind’ or the ‘bad kind’.
Now, of course, that was a generalisation. An easy way to box them in your mind. You weren’t naive, you understood the nuisances of Loki’s, you lived with four of them.
They found you when they were out searching for supplies in the wasteland, and you were thankful they did. If they hadn’t, Alioth would’ve devoured you or worse… Someone else may have found you. Cassandra was someone who most Loki’s - if not all - stayed well away from. They weren’t stupid. In fact, there was a tale that one Loki was brave, or foolish, enough to try and face her… And well… Let’s just say, it wasn’t him who told the tale.
(Dead. He was dead.)
No, Loki’s tended to keep their fighting amongst themselves. It would be comical if you hadn’t witnessed their hostility and attempts at backstabbing first hand. Surely they could see how ridiculous and ironic it was? Even at the end of time, Loki’s were fighting against their greatest enemy…
Themselves.
The group you had been taken in by were just grateful to have someone who wasn’t a Loki variant around. You brought some sense of order to their self-created chaos. The older variant was the most visibly exasperated most of the time, and you could hardly blame him. You felt exasperated too and that was without the factor of constantly arguing with yourself.
Aside from Alioth, pirates and the general savages of the void, your groups biggest rival was another group of Loki’s, lead by the variant who was known as ‘The President’. A title that you always refused to use. Even with the child, you never called him ‘King’ or ‘My Liege’. Although, he didn’t seem to mind so much, knowing you had no interest in acquiring the throne or any interest is the chaotic politics of the void. It all seemed rather pointless in such a place. Or maybe that was the real problem, that unlike the world you came from, trying to implement any form of order or system seemed like a moot point, especially when so many fought over wanting control over the wasteland.
You were currently sat on the edge of the manhole, your boots resting on the ladder. You knew not to go far, and being in such a position allowed you to warn the others of any danger and make your own quick retreat back inside your hideout. You sighed, the breeze brushing your skin as you enjoyed a moment of peace - or at least what you considered ‘peace’ in the void. However, you quickly spotted an approaching figure in the near distance, walking over a grassy mound as your eyes narrowed.
Your hand moved to rest on the hilt of your dagger in your belt, a precaution, ready to defend yourself if need be. However, you relaxed slightly as you realised it was the one who you refused to address as ‘The President’. He was alone, and he hadn’t seen you yet. You pursed your lips, thinking for a moment before shifting, turning your body so you could push yourself to stand on the grass, quietly closing the manhole cover. The last thing you needed was him finding your newest hideout spot after he discovered and recked your last one.
You made the decision to follow him, keeping a safe distance, your curiosity getting the better of you. It was rare you ever saw him without his little gang of followers. And something told you that something was amiss.
After a minute of following the variant, he came to a halt, spinning around as his icy eyes narrowed in on you. Shit. You quickly reached for your dagger, the metal making a slight noise as you removed it from your belt, seeing him conjuring his own dagger as you both began to stalk towards one another.
“Did you really think you could sneak up on me?” President Loki asked lowly, arrogance colouring his tone, that familiar sly glint in his eye.
“I wasn’t sneaking, I was following.” You replied, your own voice steady, your steps slowing as you both came to a stop, a few feet between you.
“Hm, either way-“ Loki raised his dagger, pointing the tip towards you. “You failed. You are rather bad at being inconspicuous.” He quipped, a faint smirk tugging at his lips.
“Why are you out here alone?” You ignored his comment, raising a curious brow. “Where’s your loyal possy?” Loki’s eyes narrowed further, darting around you both briefly to check for any sign of your own group, ensuring this wasn’t an ambush.
“They’re busy.” He simply stated, raising his chin as his gaze fell on you once more. “And what of yours?”
“Also busy.” You shrugged faintly, your fingers twitching around the hilt of your dagger. A tense moment of silence fell between you both before Loki lowered his dagger, satisfied it was safe to do so. Well, safe for now. With a flick of his wrist, the dagger disappeared in a green shimmer, allowing you to relax slightly.
“Do you have a death wish?” He asked, a hint of amusement on his features.
“In this place? Probably.” You said wryly, sheathing your dagger back into your belt as you let out a sigh. “Trouble in Loki paradise?” You asked, raising a brow. Loki’s jaw twitched faintly. “Oh dear, did one of your own try to backstab you?” You continued, voice filled with mock sympathy. “Even you can’t keep yourself in line it seems.”
“Watch your tongue, mortal.” Loki hissed, taking a step closer, his hands moving behind his back. “Or I won’t hesitate to cut it out.”
You couldn’t help but roll your eyes. Maybe it was because of how much of your time you spent surrounded by Loki’s, but any threat given had lost its effect after hearing so many of them. You folded your arms over your chest, tilting your head as you regarded him.
“Have you ever just… tried to talk it out? Instead of threatening your… followers?” You asked, making Loki blink before a breathy, mocking laugh left him.
“Threats invoke fear and fear makes others more… cooperative.” He replied smoothly, his own head tilting faintly. “Kings do not get their thrones by simply ‘talking’.”
“Maybe not, but Kings don’t get to keep their thrones without it.” You countered, the distant rumble of Alioth sounding through the air. Your eyes flickered over to the left, seeing the giant cloud monster lurking, searching for its next meal. Loki’s eyes lingered on your profile, a look of thought passing over his features before his gaze followed yours.
“I suggest you head back.” He muttered lowly, turning on his heel, facing away from you. “Before Alioth decides he fancies a rather defiant-tasting dinner.” You bit your lower lip lightly, knowing he was right. You looked back at him, seeing him beginning to walk away, continuing on his original path.
Good kind or bad kind? You were still figuring him out.
You’d had a few run-ins with him, and never once did he harm you. Never one did he even attempt to take you, use you as bait for the other Loki’s, or at all factor you into his schemes. It was confusing. Why? He had plenty of chances, this being one of them. Perhaps he just didn’t think you were worth his time. You were just a mortal after all, he had bigger fish to fry.
Unbeknownst to you, President Loki did indeed keep you alive for a reason… Probably the same reason as his fellow variants…
You weren’t a Loki.
Spending so long in the void with only himself, literally… Well, having someone who wasn’t him was… a strange comfort. He’d never admit it, of course. You were the potential of a different perspective, a different way of thinking, a different attitude. Even if you were just a mere mortal. But most mortals perished within the first few minutes of their arrival, and you… You survived. That was the only thing about you that was even remotely close to a Loki. Survival.
If he had stumbled across you when you first arrived, he was sure he would’ve killed you, or left you to Alioth. But his other variants had taken pity. But perhaps his way would’ve also been him taking pity, stopping you from being subjected to the harsh reality of the void. Maybe his cruelty would’ve been a kindness.
And maybe, he did hold a… tiny spec of respect for you. Not in the typical sense, but in twisted way. Perhaps he respected you, because you weren’t one of him. He didn’t even fully understand it himself. And he didn’t care to.
“You did what…?”
President Loki’s voice held a dangerous edge, his back straightening as he turned to look at the two fools before him. The two Loki variants shared a look of confusion at their leaders tone, clearly expecting him to be pleased with their actions. Loki took a slow step closer, his golden horns making him look even more intimidating as they glinted in the dim light of their hideout.
“Speak!” Loki’s voice barked, command lacing the simple word as one of the variants obeyed.
“W-we caught the mortal.” The woman Loki variant spoke, her blue eyes darting to her accomplice. “They were split from the others, and we saw an opportunity…” She paused. “For you, my liege.” She quickly added, brows furrowing faintly. Loki exhaled a deep breath, his eyes fluttering shut for a moment as his hand moved to pinch to bridge of his nose. “We can use them to lure the others, ambush them!”
Another Loki variant walked past, holding an old chalice of wine in his hand as the President whirled around, smacking it from his hand, the cup clattering to the ground. He didn’t pay the innocent variants offence any mind, his hands moving to his hips, pushing back the hem of his blazer as they settled there.
“You beef-witted… Oafs!” Loki insulted them, irritation clear on his face as he whirled back around to face them. “You were sent to survey them! Not capture one of them!”
“We saw an opportunity for the upper hand and took it!” The other variant finally spoke, stepping forwards. “Which is more than you have been doing as of late.” As soon as the words left his mouth, he knew he had made a mistake. But it was too late for apologies, Loki had summoned his dagger in a heartbeat, advancing on his idiotic variant, grabbing him by his makeshift armour. His dagger moved to press against the variants throat, his followers all pausing their chatter in the decrepit room as they watched with half amusement and half caution.
“You undermine me?” Loki growled, a snarl curling at his lip. “Your fierce leader? Your future King? The superior Loki?” He pressed the blade of the dagger closer to his variants neck, making his variant try and move his head further back, trying to put space between him and the cold metal.
Loki knew there had been whispers amongst his ranks, doubts about his leadership, his resolve for the throne… And he knew it wouldn’t be long before those whispers turned into action, a rebellion… And he couldn’t have that. No. He worked too hard to get here.
With a low sound of frustration, Loki pushed the variant back, the dagger disappearing in a flash of green. The variant took a breath, composing himself as he glared at his leader.
“If I hear any more treacherous words, any more doubt about my ability to lead us to victory…” Loki turned slowly, eyeing all of his followers, ensuring each one felt the gravity of his words. “And I’ll make sure Alioth is well fed.” He threatened, tense silence following. Satisfied he had made his point, he turned on his heel, stalking off towards the stock kept further inside the hideout, leaving his variants to stew over his warning.
Pushing aside the tatty curtain, Loki’s eyes fell upon you. You were sat on a crate, wrists and ankles bound with rope and tape over your mouth and you were… glaring at him. He could hardly blame you.
“Shoddy workmanship.” Loki remarked, raising a brow as he nodded towards the ropes, a hint of a smirk on his lips despite the lingering irritation. “I personally would’ve used magic, but some of my variants lack… finesse.” He added, letting out a short sigh before stepping through the curtain into the small room. It was filled with random scraps of metal and wood, cans of food and other items that could be useful to their survival.
Quite frankly, you were pissed.
Loki summoned his dagger once more, twirling casually between his fingers, his eyes narrowing. You eyed the dagger, feeling a hint of uncertainty creeping in. You had heard part of the disagreement that had just taken place, and couldn’t help but worry that… perhaps he would use this to his advantage now. He may as well, right? You were right there. Maybe he would use you to lure out the others or maybe he would just kill you, just to make a point to his doubters that he was still as fierce as he once was.
Silently, he stepped closer, your breaths quickening as you felt your heartbeat pound in your chest. He held your gaze, an unreadable expression on his face. He lifted the dagger, moving it towards you, making you squeeze your eyes shut, waiting for the harm to befall you.
But instead…
You heard the sound of rope being sliced through, the slight tug of your wrists before they fell free. Your brows creased, confused as your eyes reopened, looking down to see the rope in your lap. Your wrists were in fact now free.
“I assume you’re capable of untying your ankles yourself.” Loki commented casually, as if he hadn’t just toyed with you, once again sending his dagger back into his pocket dimension. “I don’t want to get my trousers dirty.” He added wryly, gesturing towards the stone floor, well aware that his trousers were already rather tatty.
He was… letting you free? Or at least, free from your restraints?
You felt suspicion and skepticism rise as you reached up to remove the tape from your lips, pulling at it as the sound filled the small space before a ‘fuck’ left your lips at the sting of it pulling at your skin. You took a breath, throwing the tape aside with distain before leaning forwards to eagerly untie your ankles.
“Think of this as a… I scratch your back, you scratch mine situation.” Loki continued, stepping back to give you some space, his eyes flickering around the stock.
Of course, there was an angle. There always was with a Loki.
“I’d rather you just killed me.” You muttered with a huff, making Loki’s lips tug into a brief smile - one that was toothy and sly.
“You see… Not everything I do involves a threat.” He mused, leaning against a nearby rickety shelving unit. “It’s a fair bargain, is it not? Your freedom for a favour. A favour which I can call upon at any time.”
You kicked the rope from your boots, pushing yourself to stand, an ache in your muscles from the fight you’d tried to put up against his two lackeys. “And by favour you mean betrayal.” You said lowly, narrowing your eyes. “Let me guess… I rat out my group, help you scheme your way to the boys throne?” Loki averted his gaze for a second, giving you your answer. Scoffing, you shake your head in disbelief, beginning to move towards the tatty curtain, giving him your own answer.
Smirking, Loki pushed off of the rickety shelving unit, watching as you shoved the curtain aside, features frowning. “I take that as a ‘we have a deal’?” Loki called after you in amusement, hands moving to clasp behind his back. He swore he heard you mutter a ‘asshole’ under your breath as you disappeared from view, and it only made his smirk widen. After a second, he followed you out, heading back into the din of his followers, seeing them all watching you stride confidently away, unfazed by their eyes all watching you. Loki’s gaze flickered over his group, a scowl forming on his face.
“Let them go.” He ordered lowly, sending one last warning glance before turning on his heel and venturing further into the hideout, away from prying eyes. As soon as he disappeared, a few members of the group shared glances with one another, seemingly skeptical of their leaders decision to let you walk free… Only adding to their suspicions that, perhaps, their leader wasn’t as ruthless as he made them believe.
Loki lounged on his makeshift throne, his mind elsewhere as his variants chatted amongst themselves. He really did grow tired of his own company. It was the same routine over and over - bickering, fights, backstabbing… Maybe his brother had a point to be irritated by his antics. He was disrupted from his thoughts by three of his followers rushing into the hideout, the three he had sent to do a perimeter check. Loki straightened in his throne, eyes narrowing. Something was wrong.
“My Liege-“ One of them began, a little breathless. “We spotted a group of Cassandra’s ruffians.” They informed him, making Loki’s grip on the arms of his seat tighten, irritation flaring. How dare they trespass on his land? But what another one of them said next, only heightened his attention.
“The mortal was there.”
Loki didn’t need a name, he knew exactly who they were referring to… And much to his own surprise, his blood ran cold. You were capable, yes, you had survived this long in the void… But Cassandra’s lot… They were a whole other level of savage.
Loki pushed himself to his feet, the variants that were sat instantly following suit, awaiting orders. He took a sharp breath, trying to remain calm despite the tug of concern that nagged at him in his chest, still clinging to that composure and strength he knew his followers needed to see from him.
“Gather your weapons and secure the perimeter.” Loki ordered, his voice steady and commanding. “Ensure they do not find our hideout.” Loki stepped down the few steps, his shoes clicking on the stone floor as his followers did as he commanded, adjusting the cuff of his suit jacket - a habit he had when he was on edge or anxious. “If any of those savages get close, you strike.”
As his variants moved about the hideout, Loki strode towards the three who had brought the news, a determined look in his eye. Stopping before one of them, he leaned in, eyes boring into theirs. “Where was the mortal?” He asked lowly, his tone holding no room for arguments or questions. The female variant raised her chin slightly, glancing at the other two before meeting his gaze again.
Leaving his variants to secure their hideout, Loki traipsed through the wasteland of the void, determination sharpening his features. Why did he care? Why was he so determined to ensure you were unharmed? He let out a sound of frustration, irritated at his own mind for stirring such thoughts. Caring was a weakness, especially in a place like this, in his position. Yet, something about you stirred memories of a simpler time. A time before everything went… to shit. Memories of connection… Connection to his mother, his brother… His father. Everything in Loki’s life had been complicated, at least to him, but something about you was… simple. And even that managed to stir such complex emotions he hadn’t felt in… centuries.
“Useless.” Loki muttered under his breath, shaking his head faintly. “Mortals. Weak and feeble.” He tried to remind himself, yet his eyes continued to scan the land around him for any sign of you. Maybe letting you go to the chaos of the void would be a kindness… Even as that thought went through his mind, his heart - something rather dusty - tugged in discontent.
He couldn’t.
Movement caught the corner of his eye, his head snapping towards it as he prepared to summon his seidr, to protect his territory from the enemy. But his posture relaxed as he recognised the figure.
You.
And you were wounded.
His feet moved quicker than his head as he strode towards you, his brows creased. As he neared, he saw your hand clutching your side, seeing the scrapes and cuts on your face. You had survived. That familiar flicker of respect appeared in his chest at that fact.
“You’re resilient.” Loki called steadily. “I’ll give you that.” Your gaze lifted, eyes meeting his when he stopped a few feet away. You watched as his gaze drifted over you, clearly assessing your current state. You were hunched faintly, clearly in pain, and Loki mentally cursed himself before he drew closer, stopping right next to you. “Why do you insist on wandering alone?” He sighed, shaking his head.
“Why do you?” You quipped back, voice strained. Loki let out a sharp breath, pursing his lips. Of course, the answer was peace. A bit of solace from the chaos you both found yourselves surrounded by - Loki variants. Clicking his tongue, Loki’s slender fingers reached towards your hand at your side, prying it away so he could take a better look. His jaw tensed as he took in the damage, feeling a wave of anger at Cassandra’s savages for harming you.
“You’re losing blood.” He stated lowly, making you scoff. Loki sent a warning glare, but you missed it, busy trying to remain on your feet. “Come.” His hand fell from yours, allowing you to once again grip your side as he began to head in the opposite direction to his hideout. Your brows furrowed in confusion. Where was he going? “Hurry up.” Loki snapped. “Unless you truly do have a death wish.”
With a sigh, you began to follow, Loki making no move to slow down. Perhaps this was it. Perhaps he was going to lure you away, out of sight and finally finish you off. You stumbled slightly, wincing at the jolting action of your body, making Loki halt and whip round to look back at you. He saw the way your face scrunched in pain, noticing the exhaustion in your breaths. With a deep breath of his own, he headed back towards you.
Without saying a word, he moved to your side, an arm wrapping around your shoulders before he bent his knees, his other arm slipping behind your knees. You barely had time to register what was happening as he lifted you easily, holding you in his arms. Your eyes widened faintly, looking up at his face. He refused to meet your eyes, keeping his own ahead.
“Do try not to bleed on my suit.” He muttered lowly, continuing to walk once again.
This was a strange way to lead someone to their death…
Loki kicked open the rickety shacks door, the wood creaking as he did so, stirring you from your half lulled state. He hadn’t taken you far, but it was definitely not his hideout you were at. Lifting your head from his shoulder, he walked you both inside, heading towards a tatty cot in the corner of the room as he set you down - a lot gentler than you had expected. Your brows furrowed, watching him as he straightened, still not meeting your gaze. He turned away from you, striding gracefully towards the other side of the room, giving you a chance to take in your new surroundings.
It was dimly lit, a shattered window being the only light source, dusty books were littered on the rickety furnishings along with a few odd trinkets and such. It was only when you noticed the familiar splash of emerald green of a blanket at the end of the cot that you realised…
This was his space. His own personal hideout… Away from prying eyes.
“Yes.” Loki finally spoke, breaking the silence. “This is my… personal haven.” He added wryly over his shoulder, finally turning to look at you. When your eyes finally landed on him again, you noticed the lack of his signature horns that usually sat upon his head, now set aside on the old, small writing desk. Without it, he looked less… sharp. His features weren’t accentuated by the shadows from his horns, now looking much softer. In his hands were medical supplies, bandages and gauze.
He was… offering help?
“Don’t look so surprised.” Loki quipped, a hint of a smirk playing at his lips. “Even I need a break from myself from time to time.” He mused, raising a brow. Purposefully, he approached, his shoes making the wood beneath his feet creak with each step, before he placed the supplies on the cot beside you, elegantly lowering himself to kneel on one knee before you. You had yet to say a word, still taking in the situation you found yourself in.
“No one else knows about this place.” Loki continued, his voice calm. “And I’d like to keep it that way.” His eyes held yours for a moment, searching yours - it was almost a silent plea. Reaching for the gauze, he gestured for you to lift your leathers slightly, a hint of tentativeness in the request. He wasn’t used to patching up others. This was… new for him. Shifting on the cot, you twisted yourself slightly so he could access your side easier, your bloodied fingers slowly peeling the leather up, revealing the stab wound you have received. Thankfully, you had managed to angle yourself defensively during the scuffle, making the attacker miss anything vital, but leaving a rather nasty gash. Loki’s azure eyes flickered to the wound, his jaw tensing again, and you swore you saw a flicker of anger go through his gaze.
“It could be worse.” He uttered through gritted teeth, moving to carefully press the gauze against your wound, making you hiss, body tensing. Loki felt a flair of regret, but he knew it was necessary. “Bear in mind… I’m not a healer.” He murmured. Being this close to Loki, you could see every detail of his face - the faint scars, the flecks of green in his eyes, the lines around his brows and mouth. He looked… human. It was as if Loki could sense you staring, his eyes snapping up from his hands to meet yours. “Hasn’t anyone ever told you it’s rude to stare?”
“Sorry.” You found yourself muttering, finally speaking again, averting your gaze quickly. Loki’s lips tugged upwards briefly, eyes dropping back to his hands. After a few moments of silence, he spoke again.
“I didn’t say stop.”
You couldn’t help but let out a huff of amusement, which shifted into a wince. “Asshole.” You shook your head, missing the way Loki’s smirk widened into a quick grin. Within these walls, Loki could let his guard down - if only a little. This was his safe space, a place where he could hang up the role of fierce leader and trickster, just for a short while.
Gently, he pulled away the gauze, the material having soaked up some of the blood so he could see the wound clearer. “You’ll live.” He told you quietly, discarding the bloodied gauze to reach for another. “For now.” With a quiet sigh, he once again pressed the new gauze against your side.
“That sounds like a threat.” You murmured wryly, glancing at him. Loki met your gaze, letting your words hang in the air for a moment. It felt like there was a shift between you both, the underlying tension that had always been present bubbling to the surface. Ever so slightly, your breath hitched, suddenly feeling nervous - but not in the usual way the void elicited.
“No.” The word came from Loki’s lips, barely above a whisper, his head ever so faintly shaking. A pause. “It’s a promise.”
The statement was spoken with a softness that you hadn’t seen from Loki before, a level of acceptance. Loki was complicated, yet in these moments he felt… simple. No matter how reluctant he tried to appear, or how aloof and cold… Beneath it all, he did care… In his own way. And it showed, in his own way too. It wasn’t an outright confession, but it was as close as you would get… That he did have a reason for keeping you alive, for not harming you, for not wanting harm to befall you…
Finally, Loki tore his gaze away, feeling the weight of the moment in his chest. It became a little too much, a little too intense. But… it didn’t feel wrong. Delicately, he once again removed the gauze, reaching for a new one so he could finally wrap your wound.
“When you get back to your group, it will need properly cleaning.” Loki cleared his throat, voice clear once more. “And try to avoid any more sharp objects.” He added wryly, raising a brow and giving a pointed look. “It would be… a shame if my rival were to perish from such a boring form of death.” And just like that, your usual dynamic clicked back into place, making your lips curl into a faint smirk.
“I shall aim for something more adventurous next time.” You quipped, a softer edge to your voice.
The good kind.
He was definitely the good kind.

Adventures on a Foreign Planet | Chapter 1
Summary: After narrowly escaping Thanos, Loki is given a chance for a new life. The Avengers allow Loki to live in New Asgard with his brother, Thor. However, The Avengers are not quick to put their trust into Loki. SHIELD Director Nick Fury recruits an Agent who was once said to be one of the most promising SHIELD Agents, to follow Loki and ensure that he has no plans to harm Earth. Pairing: Loki Laufeyson x Reader A/N: Hello! This is a new series I've been working on and I'm excited to finally be publishing it. This is just the first chapter, so I hope you stick around to see the full story. [ Masterlist | AO3 ]
Every Asgardian knew the stories of the land that was now supposed to be their home. Many celebrations that were full of food and wine also included the Allfather Odin reminding them of the battle in a small village on Midgard called Tønsberg. The audience would shiver, their shoulders tense as Odin described the land being frozen over by the Frost Giants and their malicious leader, King Laufey; the monsters with blood red eyes and physiques that tower over Asgardians.
The story was always told the same way, with Odin leading the Asgardian army into battle without fear. The War eventually ended in the Frost Giants own realm Jotunheim. But the Midgardian village that eventually grew into a city was still remembered as years later, Odin would ask for the Asgardian worshippers to protect the Tesseract.
At the end of the story, Odin would yell “Asgard will always prevail,” and the crowds would cheer as loud as they could and some would chant the phrase before filling their drinks once more.
Now, their home that they had for centuries was gone. The prophesized apocalypse, Ragnarok, had happened. The Asgardians had needed refuge and their new King Valkyrie, with the advice from the formerly Crown Prince Thor, decided the city from their stories could be their new home. The Asgardians knew there would be no grand celebrations for a long time.
However, most Asgardians were simply grateful to have a chance to continue their lives. Hela’s takeover of Asgard caused many lives to be lost. But their challenges were not over yet, as Thanos had come for the Tesseract.
Thanos originally went for another infinity stone on a planet called Xander. But decided against it as rumors his daughters Gamora and Nebula knew of his plans stopped him. Little did he know that his daughters and their friends knew of his new plan to go after the Tesseract. The Guardians of the Galaxy, as they referred to themselves as, followed him. With the help of the Nova Corp and some Ravagers, they were able to fight Thanos. The new legend says Nebula performed the final attack, killing The Mad Titan.
Not every Asgardian survived the Thanos attack. Most were able to escape quickly in a smaller ship with Valkyrie and Korg. Some decided to stay behind and fight. To ensure Asgard had a future.
Everyday since the Asgardians arrived on Midgard three months ago and renamed the city of Tønsberg to New Asgard, the younger prince of Asgard wondered if it would be the day he was sent to a different realm or was executed.
Loki's last visit to Midgard resulted in a strange wizard putting him in a strange portal where he fell for thirty minutes while Thor was told to take Loki from Earth. Thor easily agreed that his brother was a threat to Earth. The Battle of New York was far from forgotten.
But, now Thor was telling anyone who would listen that Loki had changed and was a hero for the Asgardians. The Avengers did not trust this supposed change of heart and decided to lock up Loki in the Avengers Compound until they decided what they would do with him. Loki did not put up a fight. What was the point?
Thor attempted to make his brother's living situation as comfortable as possible, requesting that he was not put in a cell but rather an apartment like the ones the other Avengers lived in; Tony Stark's AI FRIDAY, ensuring tight security.
During the months living in the compound, Loki was questioned on a regular basis, mostly by the Avengers but occasionally by military and government officials. But ultimately, everyone agreed that it was up to the Avengers to make the final decision.
“Why are you here Loki? Planning another massacre in an attempt to be some King? I wanna know what tricks you got up your sleeve this time cause the mind stuff was really impressive but you don’t seem like the person to enjoy repeating tricks?” asked Clint Barton, a man Loki remembers well. He was always one of the harshest interviewers and for understandable reasons.
The two men are sitting across from each other at a table in Loki’s temporary apartment. Unlike the others, Loki has not been able to add any personal touches. The walls are plain and all the tabletops bare.
“I do not plan on conquering. My return to your planet is simply because it is where my brother and our people are,” Loki responds. He sounded casual and almost bored, as if this was a phrase he repeated many times.
Most of his life, Asgard gave him no attention except when he was causing tricks on them. Why would they when they could instead idolize Thor, the golden prince. Now he is constantly trying to convince others that he is a part of Asgard. That he is wanted by the Asgardians. Loki knew it was a lie, but the silvertongue always knew how to lie.
“Your people? The people who did not want you to become their king so you decided it would be fun to destroy Earth,” Clint almost laughs.
“Fun is not how I would describe my past experience here.”
The dark haired God never once broke eye contact with Clint as he said “There is much you don’t know about how that attack came to be. I was not the main person who lost that day.”
Clint leaned back in his chair, sighing. The details given by Loki about his side of the Battle of New York always felt incomplete. He needed to hold back. The truth of those events and what he experienced because of that Mad Titan is something the Avengers didn’t need to know about.
Knowing it was a lost cause, Clint decided to move on.
“New Asgard is starting to settle down. People are getting used to the situation, more homes are being built. They are starting work and the children are taking lessons again,” Clint offers.
“So I’ve heard.”
“You helped Asgardians escape Ragnarok, " he leaned against the table, "You think you could create a new life?”
Loki only nodded.
Mission Assignment Update: Report to Nick Fury at Base 018
You groan as you put your phone back on the nightstand. It was only 6am, but of course the bastard Fury didn’t care that you only got to your apartment past midnight after finishing your latest mission.
It wasn’t an exciting one. There was a rumor that a “dangerous group” in New Jersey was developing technology that could hack anyone including Tony Stark himself.
And of course like always it was nothing. Just a group of grad students who got pretentious about some of the programs were developing and exaggerated the truth to some of their friends.
Yet, SHIELD still never wanted to take any risks so you were the ever so lucky agent that had to investigate then write a riveting report about how it was nothing.
The notification didn’t include a meeting time, meaning that Fury wants you to be there as soon as possible and no matter what time you arrive, he will complain about you being late.
Your eyelids still feel heavy as you will yourself to get out of bed. As you slowly gain consciousness you wonder why you even have to go to Fury for your mission assignment. Most of the time you are messaged the directions of the missions and complete it all on your own.
Eventually you manage to get dressed and run out of your apartment to head to the SHIELD base. It wasn’t a very big one, though most of the facilities weren’t anymore. SHIELD didn’t have much now after the Hydra infiltration. Many resources were gone and so were many agents.
This base was hidden in plain sight. It was just another skyscraper in New York full of many businesses that each rented a couple floors. As far as the other workers in the building knew, “Secure and Shield Surveillance” was a small technology company that possibly made security cameras or computer protection software.
No one ever really cared enough to investigate further.
You enter the building and take the elevator to the 8th floor. When the doors open and there you are greeted by the hostile stare of the secretary, Bernadette who has half-moon glasses and dresses as though she is working in the 1950s. Her gray hair is in its usual tight updo that never allows any piece of hair to move from its assigned position.
“Well look who decided to grace us with her presence today.”
Bernadette had been a part of SHIELD longer than anyone else (you didn’t know how long because no one would ever risk asking her age). You sometimes wondered if she was always a secretary or if her past jobs were more like yours.
All you did know was Bernadette believed that SHIELD would be best run if everyone obeyed orders and that she hated you because you always did the exact opposite.
You roll your eyes and respond, “Always nice seeing you too. If I knew you missed me so much I would have visited more often.”
“How generous.” Bernadette returns to her work, attempting to ignore you still being in the room.
“I know, when I die I’ll be treated like a saint,” you smile to yourself, knowing that you probably annoyed her enough that she will be irritated for the rest of the day.
She continues to type on her computer, attempting to maintain a bored face, but you are still pleased because you can see the slight furrow in her brow and her frown deepen. “Director Fury is waiting in his office. A reminder on basic manners dear, don’t leave your boss waiting.”
“Didn’t plan on it Bernadette, I’m always polite.” You are already walking down the hall when you respond, while you attempt to hold your small laugh.
As you enter the office, you see Fury but there was another figure with him. Steve Rogers. You’ve met before many times albeit the encounters were usually very short.
He has been involved with SHIELD for many years and after the infiltration was revealed, it was he who heavily promoted the idea of reforming SHIELD in hopes of maintaining its legacy. However, he was still most committed to the Avengers and most SHIELD operations were handled by others.
But now the two men are standing around Fury’s desk, staring at you while you still stand in the doorway.
“Director, Captain, I hope you plan on explaining to me why we are all here.”
Fury steps forward towards you, his arms crossed, “Agent, I assumed you would know from the dispatch that we need to talk about your new mission.”
“Yes, message that provided no details except to meet you here which we both know is irregular. We both don’t have time for this and I assume your other guest, who was not even mentioned on my invitation, doesn’t either.”
Steve looks apologetic as he says “I apologize that I caught you off guard, that wasn’t my intention.”
“It was absolutely my intention. Why are you complaining so much? I thought you loved surprises and it's really a shame we don’t see each other more often,” Fury interrupts.
You force yourself to laugh, “Not my fault you didn’t wanna go on a coffee date with me,” you close the door behind you, fully entering Fury’s office “Captain, are you willing to finally tell me about this mission?”
Steve sighs and sits down in the chair beside the desk, “As you know Thor has brought the Asgardians here to Earth, they’ve been rebuilding their home in Norway.”
You nod. Asgard’s destruction and refuge wasn’t unknown. You heard about some missions of agents being sent to deliver resources and technology to the Asgardians, in an attempt to help them adapt to their new lifestyle.
But doesn’t explain why Fury and Steve, themselves need to personally explain your mission to you.
Steve continues, “Thor also brought some of his companions with him,” he pauses, “Including his brother Loki.”
You feel your heart drop to your stomach and breaths stop.
Loki is back on Earth? It has been years since the attack on New York, but no one has forgotten it. At one moment you are sparring with your fellow SHIELD trainees, placing bets on who was going to get assigned a real mission first, then in the next moment it doesn’t matter. SHIELDs Helicarrier was attacked and the perpetrator had escaped.
Everything you learn about their menacing leader was after the attack. SHIELD was able to collect some footage of the tall dark god. The footage was blurry, but yet you can still see the God enjoying himself. The attack was no accident.
“You let Loki back on Earth? The Asgardians have been on Earth for months, are you trying to tell me you’ve allowed him to be here the whole time. What the fu-”
“Our reasons for allowing him to be here are complicated, Agent. Please try to stay quiet and listen.” Fury starts sounding more and more exhausted, whether by you or the entire situation is debatable.
Steve looks at Fury then back at you, “When we saw Loki had arrived with Thor, we immediately put him in custody. Thor was upset with this decision and tried to explain to us that- well he believes his brother is good now.”
Thor believes his brother is good?
Fury explains, “Loki apparently did some hero shit when they were escaping Asgard and now Thor believes that his little dream of fighting alongside his brother is possible.”
The story they are telling you feels like a dream. Or maybe this is a nightmare. It is too unbelievable to be real.
“Do you believe that? This is ridiculous-”
You are interrupted again by Fury “What did I say about you saying quiet and listening. We haven’t even gotten to the best part yet.”
“We decided to investigate Thor’s claims about his brother. We needed to decide what to do with Loki and we finally came to a conclusion,” Steve stares at me “Loki is moving to New Asgard.”
Steve continues, “New Asgard is where Thor is and maybe eventually after a while, he might even help the Avengers out. This is a dangerous move we know, but it’s one we believe in,” he pauses. “I believe we can give him a second chance.”
Steve Rogers, or Captain America as the world knew he always wanted to do the right thing. To believe there is still good in the world even if it felt like it was all following apart.
And somehow he could even see good in Loki.
You are lost in your thoughts when Fury's voice sneaks into your head. “This is where you come in, Agent.”
Your head whips around to stare at Fury, your mouth slightly agape. During this meeting, you had become so distracted by this absurd story that you forgot the original reason for you being here.
"Thor promises to keep an eye on his brother, but we want to be safe," Steve said, "Fury recommended you for the job.”
You stare at Fury. He was always a calculated man
"Why did you choose me for this mission?"
"Loki annoys the hell out of me and so do you,” Fury shugs.
“Ha, very funny,” you say completely expressionless.
This whole situation was ridiculous.
But, maybe it was time for a challenge. For years now, every mission you’ve received always felt the same and never truly needed a SHIELD agent to handle it.
“So, you’re telling me my new mission is to babysit a God?” They both nod cautiously. You pause, making sure you have made up your mind, “So when do I start?”

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You wake to the sun shining in from the small square window and the caws of a raven.
Sitting up slowly, you head directly to the bathroom to bathe. No thoughts have crossed your mind as you’re functioning on autopilot.
You look at your reflection and see nothing. In the deepest parts of your mind you can hear the locked chest rattling and moving to get out, much like Pandora's box, but you push it further.
Not anymore. Just focus on your job. I can’t do this anymore. For your own sanity, push them out.
You get ready for the day and head out to your first destination: the King’s bedroom.
As you perform your duties, it feels as though you’re floating. The world around you seems hazy, almost as if somebody else is controlling your body as you watch through your eyes.
You’re cleaning the room robotically, as you move around sweeping and dusting. You hear nothing besides this constant deep buzzing.
Suddenly you feel a hand wrap around your forearm and makes you turn around. You show no reaction as you’re turned to face Loki, staring at you with squinted eyes.
He’s saying something but you can’t hear until you shake your head out of the haze and focus again. You curtsy low and address him “Hello, my king. How may I be of assistance?”
He stares at you, searching your eyes. “Are you well?” he asks.
“How do you mean, my king?” you reply stoically.
He can’t find that fire behind your eyes that used to burn with defiance, nor that snarkiness he loves to see when you challenge him. He only sees empty eyes staring back at him.
“What happened?” he demands rather than asking.
“I'm unsure what you are referring to, my king. I am simply doing my job, as your maid. I’m doing as you said, your highness. I know my place.” Your eyes look sunken and void of anything.
He frowns at your reply when you turn around and continue your work as he stares at you in confusion and worry.
He steps in front of you “Stop.”
You immediately obey “Yes, my king.” and you stand there waiting for his next order.
He continues to search your eyes, not understanding how a woman with such strong character, the woman he met a few days prior who would rather be beaten than to obey an order, suddenly accept a command so easily.
He sits you down on a chair and analyzes you. He can’t sense any foreign or dark magic on you. There is no curse he can identify. He’s bewildered by your drastic change in character, until he notices this dark purple aura surrounding your body. He doesn’t understand how he hadn’t felt the presence of this magic before, but he quickly realizes that it isn’t foreign. Its coming from within you.
Thinking out loud he says "You're not supposed to have magic. How is this possible?"
Then, he remembers something his mother had told him years ago when he was a boy:
~~~
"Mother, what do the colours I see around people mean? Everybody has a different one. Why is that?" Young Loki asks.
"My son, those colours are called auras. Everybody has a different aura depending on their type of magic that they have and use. Sometimes, people may have dormant magic, subdued from years of being unused. Those auras, are much different, however. They are usually a deep orange, which can eventually turn into another colour when and if they start using their magic again." The Allmother explains to her eldest child.
"But what about dark purple? I was reading a book in the library that mentioned dark purple auras but I wasn't able to find any details about it." the curious boy questions.
"Dark purple? That is a very rare aura... one I have not seen since our last Great War, centuries ago. A dark purple aura happens when somebody born with magic, has suffered greatly. As a result, their magic is naturally subdued, because the most dangerous and volatile person is one who uses and grows their magic through hate and pain. The dark purple aura reflects the pain and trauma they've endured and almost acts as a warning to others. It is well known by all experts of magic that a dark purple aura cannot be cleared without the affected person healing themselves fully from their trauma." she explains.
"How do you heal them?"
"That is where the issue lays, my sweet boy. Over the years we have learned that this can only happen one way: True love and complete trust. It has been noted that the only thing that can break such pain, sadness and anguish, is unconditional love. Very few cases have been recorded where one with a dark purple aura has found such love and managed to free themselves and accept their true aura, stemming from their true, healed, self." she grabs ahold of her sons hand and guides him through her garden.
"This type of magic is the most powerful and the most difficult to attain as it is not really magic at all. Nobody can simply enchant another to fall in love. The love must be true. This means, it cannot be influenced by any unnatural forces. It cannot be forced or tricked, which is why it is the most difficult ailment to cure, unfortunately. Even more so as times passes because true love has lost its meaning over the years. No book or magical spell can tell you what true love is because there is no singular definition. For a mother, it may be the love she has for her child, for another it may be their significant other, or their sibling...It differs from person to person. Sometimes, an act of true love by the affected person themselves or the one that they love, can break the dark purple aura. Unfortunately, at times, those acts of unconditional love, are fatal; sacrificing yourself for another. True love is a very fragile and fickle thing. Extremely difficult to attain but very easy to break." she sighs sadly as she walks through the mazes of her garden.
Young Loki remained silent the rest of their walk, mind reeling trying to understand what true love really means.
~~~
At that moment he decides to do the one thing he promised himself he would never do without one’s consent.
He places two fingers on your forehead, and you feel a tingle as he begins to read your mind and replay your memories. He starts from last night, with the intention of going back as far as possible to understand who you really are.
When he begins, he can see the box of emotions hidden deep within your subconscious, locked with chains and kept hidden well beyond. He replays your memories in your room and the bathroom.
He pulls back in surprise. “How did you do that?” he asks you.
You do not reply to him and stare blankly through him.
"But... if your magic is supposedly dormant, how are you able to dissociate yourself and psychologically lock your emotions away?... Can I reverse it?" he asks himself, thinking out loud.
He taps once again into your memories and chases after the locked chest hidden in the furthest part of your mind. As he begins to approach it, it moves again, further away every time. Finally, Loki decides to try halting it in its spot with his magic. When he tries to do so, a sudden intense wave of fire scorches around him. Confused, he touches it and to his surprise, he can feel the heat from the fire within your mind. As he tries to step through, a phoenix emerges and screams as it flies at him. He feels the power of the phoenix throw him backwards and he inhales deeply as he staggers back on the table in his room. He's breathing heavily, heart racing as stares at you in disbelief.
What just happened? Did she throw me out of her mind? How is that possible... that has never happened... Who are you?
"May I resume my work, my king?" you asks monotonously.
Loki shakes his head incredulously and waves his hand in the air "Yes, yes, continue. I must take my leave."
He quickly walks to the door and looks behind his shoulder before leaving, watching you broom the floor as if nothing happened.
