CALLING THEM MY LOVE + STRAW HATS
characters: luffy, zoro, sanji, nami, usopp, robin, franky, brook + jinbei
warnings: not proofread + commissions are open !
monkey d.luffy doesn't even care about pet names. you try to call him out by using "my love", but he doesn't even look at you; he only notices you're calling him when you use his name or a nickname. "oh, what's up?" he simply answers, his wide eyes staring at you with obvious happiness and joy – simply out of seeing you there. everyone in the crew smiles at the obliviousness of their captain and the situation just becomes a joke. (nami asks if you need her to punch him till he acknowledges the pet names)
roronoa zoro almost growls at you when those two words leave your lips if you two aren't alone. it's not that he hated those cute names, he likes them, but in private; he knows that if you two use any pet name, sanji and the others won't stop bothering him, so he prefers to keep everything behind closed doors. if you call him 'my love' before bed, he will softly smirk at you and kiss your forehead, holding you close to his body.
sanji feels like doing backflips when you call him by any cute name. "my love, do you need any help?", he didn't need it, but as his body hits the floor, his eyes having hearts on them, he ends up needing help. he begs you to call him like that again, saying that it makes him feel all warm and nice that his sweetie is giving him such cute nicknames.
nami scoffs anytime you come up with a new nickname. "i'm not going to give you more money", she always says, her arms crossed in front of her chest. when she notices you're just being soft and adorable, she will press light kisses all over your face and woo at you. "you're s' lovely, baby! c'mon, les' have a date!"
usopp waves between being embarrassed by the pet name and being cocky about it. he can and will go "heh, obviously 'm your love! 'm usopp, after all!"; but if you do it in private, he will bury his face on your neck and quietly ask "do ya really think that?". no matter what, he will hug you and spin you around, laughing with joy at your own giggles. usopp will want to be next to you the rest of the day, doing his silly little jokes and telling you more stories to hear you laugh at him.
robin tears up softly after hearing you call her 'my love' for the first time. she never felt like that before; the straw hats make her feel like she belongs somewhere, but you... you make her feel something greater than that. the tall woman will grab your hand and softly kiss your knuckles, bringing you closer to her body so her other hand can rest on your hips. "you are my love, too." she will softly whisper against the skin of your hand, her lips forming the softest smile.
franky will immediately pick you up so you can sit on his metallic shoulder. "aren't you proud that your love is super strong?", he would say with a wide smirk. he would make sure to tell everyone that pass you two that you're the best partner ever and that he's so lucky to have someone like you – even if all crew members know about that.
brook laughs loudly. looming over you, he would start giggling and tease you a little; "yohoho? 'm your love! oh, my dear! i am truly your love!" he would pull his violin out and start serenading you, singing all the songs that he wrote about you. if you sit and applaud him every single timehe finishes a song, he will fall even harder for you.
jinbei simply smiles and puts his hand on the top of your head, cautiously so he doesn't end up hurting you. he resumes on doing whatever he was doing before, but your words would ring in his ears and he would remain with a smile on his face the rest of the day. at night, before you went to sleep, he would kiss your forehead and murmur, "goodnight, my love."

Straw Hats x Fem Gardener S/O platonic fluff HCs! The main reason I request this? FLOWER CROWNS! But also, S/O is good at growing crops and flowers, so she must have a greenhouse on deck to grow fruits, tangerines, vegetables, any medicinal herbs, flowers, anything! So helpful and sweet! And also, FLOWER CROWNS!
★ WITH A FEM GARDENER CREWMATE! headcanons ★
── featuring. the strawhats.
── cw. f!reader. no pronouns used. platonic. very brief mention of homesickness. not proofread.
── notepad. sigh i love you platonic and domestic hcs of the strawhats. you complete me <333
never in all of your years did you think you would find yourself gardening on the sea with a group who had come like family to you, a group you couldn't see yourself living without
building your new greenhouse on the deck was a group effort because it was supposed to be a surprise for you
you loved being at sea with the strawhats, you wouldn't trade it for the world. but it didn't stop you from missing home
a spring island somewhere out there, where the love and life are just as plentiful as the beautiful green that covers it
to bring a piece of your home back to you, the strawhats all chip to help make you a greenhouse where you continue your gardening while on the sea. something you never thought you could do
you somehow didn't find out about what they were planning, despite a few of your crewmates being blabbermouths.
after a girl's day in the island port town, you landed on a few days ago with nami and robin, you finally see it.
"surprise!" your crewmates, your family, jumps out all covered in wood chips and paint of all colors. some were covered in more paint than others. you swore your captain was wearing a yellow shirt that day, but with the amount of blue on it, it may as well have been blue.
you love your greenhouse! well, it wasn't just your greenhouse anymore. it was another place for you and your crewmates to spend time together.
it's the perfect place to have early lunches on sunny days and a late dinner on calm and cool nights under warm string lights.
your extensive knowledge of plants and your natural green thumb make you a versatile member of the crew.
on one end of your greenhouse, you were growing medical herbs for chopper's research and medicines. on another side, you made a special place for nami's tangerine trees you helped her take great care of.
on another corner were many vegetables for sanji's amazing dishes. and close by were the sweetest fruits in all of the grand line that would sometimes go missing the next morning
which is why you have decided to start locking up the greenhouse at night.
but who can forget, the flower crowns !!
a small gesture that would have a lasting impact on each of them, all with their own flower that you believed best represented them based on the flowers' meanings and your crew's personalities.
luffy puts his crown around his hat. when the flowers start to die and lose their color, he will become sad and ask you to make another one for him to replace it.
zoro was confused as to what exactly you wanted him to do with it until you motioned for him to put it on his head. it's uhhh...definitely not for him. but you're like a sister to him so if you flash puppy eyes, he'll wear it
sanji finds the crown you made for him adorable. he finds you even more charming for going out of your way to make it for him. he doesn't deserve such gifts from you but he is happy to wear them to make you happy. he preserves them so he can hold onto them forever.
robin definitely helps you make the flower crowns with all those extra pairs of hands that she has. like sanji, robin preserves the flower crowns that you give her. she will take a piece of them and put them in resin to make homemade jewelry from.
jinbei is your favorite to make flower crowns for. with all of his long beautiful hair, you are constantly putting big, colorful flowers in his hair because he sits there and just lets you do it. sometimes he'll even put flowers in your hair. flower pals !!
brook, like jinbei, enjoys it when you put flower crowns and stick flowers in his hair over cups of tea.
usopp pretends that he doesn't want one, but he secretly does. so after he politely declines and you (pretend to) take his word for it and walk away, he's so sad. pls no, give it to him !!
chopper loves making flower crowns with you. he could make them all day. he loves wearing several of them on his antlers, so he can spin, turn, and dance and they flow in the wind.
nami loves extravagant flower crowns. the bigger and more colorful, the better. she will throw little hints that she really wants one made of sunflowers and roses, such as saying how much she really REALLY wants one, and will sigh out loud when she's in front of the flowers. so when you actually surprise her with one, she's so happy she could squeeze the life out of you. you're her favorite for a reason
franky is so gentle with his flower crown. he's terrified that he may accidentally break or bruise the flowers that you worked so hard to put together. he will pull out the tiny yellow hand to put it on or take it off. he is going to make this thing last !!

Not a Burden
Pairing: Robin x F Reader
Tags: Emotional Hurt/Comfort, Comfort, Vaginal Fingering, Scissoring, Kissing
Summary:
Back on the high seas after the defeat of Kaido, the crew takes a bit of time to relax. However, one member of the Straw Hats is noticeably missing – its archaeologist. Nami alerts y/n (female reader), and she seeks Robin out to get the bottom of it. You knew that fight with Black Maria was only over in one way.
Read on Ao3
The sun was beginning to set and the silhouette of the Land of Wano had disappeared behind the clouds as the crew continued on their way to their next destination. With one of the fiercest battles they’d ever fought now behind them, the Straw Hats were grateful to be settling back into their routines on the Sunny.
Zoro could be found napping on the lawn while Luffy, Chopper, and Usopp played (a little too loudly) on the swings near him. The soft notes of Brook’s music wafted throughout the ship; over the years he had discovered if he stood in a certain spot on the deck, the sea breeze would carry his voice so everyone could hear.
The aroma of burgers and an assortment of other delectable meats still lingered in the air from tonight’s dinner. Sanji remained in the kitchen, putting the dishes away and starting preparations for tomorrow’s meals.
Franky and Jinbei’s voices could be heard deep in conversation, as the cyborg wanted to get to know the newest member of the crew on a more personal level. The two men walked around the vessel as the shipwright started making blueprints to build accommodations for him.
As you quietly observe the scenes unfolding before you, you hear Nami’s soft steps approach. “Hey, y/n! Have you seen Robin? She isn’t in the library and was even more quiet than normal at dinner.”
“No…I was about to come see if she was with you. I’m sure she’s fine and just needed some alone time,” you reassure her.
Nami nodded and walked down to the lawn to join the others. You thought it was odd Robin wasn’t here enjoying the after-dinner festivities. The two of you would usually watch them from afar as you cuddled with a book. You knit your brow.
This isn’t like her…
Concerned, you decide to go check in on your girlfriend.
You and Robin had become a couple shortly after the crew saved her at Enies Lobby. Having joined a week after she did, you fell for her as soon as your eyes met. You could sense there was a deep yet indescribable pain in the way she looked not just at you, but at everyone else on the ship as well.
Hesitant to get too close too fast and scare her off, you opted to take your time in getting to know everything about her - where she came from, her likes and dislikes, and what she did for fun. It was through your time together you started to think you were out of your depth.
Not only were you naturally introverted, you had already resigned yourself to the idea someone as beautiful and intelligent as her could never feel the same way about you. Despite this, you were still able to bond over how much the two of you had in common. Little did you know…the love you grew to have for her was indeed reciprocated.
A confession didn’t occur until after the tumultuousness of her rescue. After almost having lost her once, there was no way you’d ever let her go through an experience like that again. You still remember it like it was yesterday.
Robin, I know you’ve been hurt, betrayed, and treated as if you were some kind of monster. While I can never truly understand how that feels and changes you as a person, I can make you a promise: For as long as we’re together, I will NEVER allow you to go through that again. I’m yours, forever and always…if you’ll have me.
Neither of you could stop crying at that point, but it didn’t matter. Words weren’t needed. The two of you embraced and the deal was sealed.
Not long after, Franky surprised the both of you. After returning from the two years of training every member of the crew underwent, he built a separate room for you to share. While bunking with Nami was always fun, being able to have a moment to yourselves was a nice option.
“Robin? I’m coming in…” you say as you knock on the door to alert her of your presence.
As you enter the room, you see her sitting on the bed still wearing the lilac kimono she had acquired in Wano. Your breath hitched each time you saw her in it and your heart began to race. You shut the door and walk toward her.
“Hey, beautiful! What are…” you stop mid-question at the sound of soft sniffles. Rushing to her side, you take a seat next to her.
“What’s wrong?” Concern obvious in the tone of your voice.
Placing the back of her hand to her mouth, she whimpers again, nodding her head in the negative. “It’s nothing, love, don’t worry,” she says, tears quietly streaming down her cheeks.
You rub her leg to comfort her. “Flower, please talk to me. You’ve been more quiet than usual since the battles ended. Are your injuries bothering you? I can go get Chopper,” you say, hoping she won’t be too proud to allow you to get her some help.
Wiping her tears away, she places her other hand atop yours, resting them together on her lap. She faces you, her eyes bluer than the waters of even the clearest ocean. The tears that linger make them glisten in a sadly stunning way. Even distraught she was a sight to behold.
“When I was fighting Black Maria, she called me a tramp and a burden to the crew. In the heat of the battle, none of that even registered. But now, those words…‘you’re a burden’… I can’t help but wonder sometimes if there’s some truth to that statement.”
You flip your hand over and hold hers tight. Giving it a reassuring squeeze, you wordlessly urge her to continue.
“At times, I do feel like I don’t belong. After spending years being treated like I wasn’t needed or that my existence itself was a crime…what if it’s all true and I’ve been lying to myself? I’m not proud of what I’ve done in the past, but I had to do it if I wanted any chance at survival…” tears burst forth once again, and you pull her into your lap and hold her close to your chest. You kiss the top of her head as you wait until she regains her composure.
Once she settles down, you caress her cheek as she listens to the steady rhythm of your heart. This grounds her and helps her clear her head.
“Robin, my love, you’re certainly not a burden and you shouldn’t be ashamed of what you had to do to survive. You said it yourself - you simply want to live.” Your soft smile brings a stop to her crying.
“You were alone for a very long time, and from such a young age, at that. The crew wouldn’t be the same if you weren’t here. We love and need you. Nami has someone she looks up to as an older sister, and the knowledge only you have helps her construct accurate maps. Usopp takes inspiration from your scary stories to come up with new weapons to protect himself.” You feel her chuckle against you at the humorous images this evokes.
“Zoro respects the strength and will you have, and only steps in to protect you when he feels it’s needed. Sanji cooks for all of us, but you know he’d make anything you asked of him to special order, just for you. I did actually feel a little bad when he cried when we told him we were together.” You both laugh at the memory of him sobbing on the kitchen counter after you revealed to the crew you were an item.
“Brook appreciates you for being one of the first crew members to accept a skeleton joining and seeing him as a person. Jinbei admires your battle ability and has mentioned to me he wouldn’t want to fight you. Franky has someone to talk to about Pluton and the potential of what the world government would do with it.” You pause for a moment to let her take in your words before continuing.
“Of course, Chopper sees you as a mother figure even if he doesn’t admit it. He’d be lost without your calm, steady presence amongst this rambunctious crew. Most importantly, there’s Luffy. You are the one who is going to help guide him and the rest of this crew to our dreams. He can only become king of the pirates with all of our help - everyone here has a role to play, and none of us are here by mistake. This crew is your nakama and they would never see you as a burden.”
Placing a finger gently under her chin, you tilt her head up to look at you. “As for me, you taught me how to love and that someone like me is worthy of being loved by someone like you. You allow me to be me and accept me without judgment. I would do anything for you, flower. If anything happened to you, I’d turn this world upside down to save you. Do you not remember what I told you when I confessed? I’m yours, forever and always. I love you, Robin,” you declare as you kiss her forehead. She smiles up at you as she leans in closer.
“You have no idea what that means to me. Thank you. You always know what to say to make me feel better. I love you, too, y/n,” she whispers as she leans in and gently brushes her lips against yours. You kiss for what seems like an eternity in the best way, but a sense of unease causes you to pull back.
Taking her hands in yours, you ask, “Wait…are you sure you want this? I didn’t say what I said for any other reason but to make you see how cherished you are and I don’t want you to feel li-”
“Shhh,” she places a finger to your lips before you can finish. “Trust me. I think this is something we both need right now.”
Who am I to argue?
She pulls you back to her and captures your mouth with hers. The soft sounds coming from both of you cause your body to thrum with need, but you don’t dare make a move. It’s her turn to feel empowered and what better way than to let her take the reins?
Her body weight shifts, and you move further back onto the bed you share with her. The scent of the freshly washed sheets underneath you mixed with the familiar smell of tea and old books on her skin is enough to drive you mad, but somehow you remain in control of your senses.
Robin slides on top of you, and your bodies fit together as if you were made for one another. The pad of her thumb now traces your bottom lip as if it were a page from her favorite story. Your tongue darts out for a taste, and you see the pupils of her gorgeous sapphire eyes dilate. Taking her hand and turning it slightly, you place a kiss on her palm. Your mouth meets her wrist and you can feel her pulse quicken against your lips.
She extracts herself from your grip and her hands seek the hem of your shirt. The feel of her fingertips on your flesh nearly sets you on fire. Despite having done this many times before, there’s a renewed sense of urgency to this moment. Your hands get lost in tangles of raven-black hair as you draw her into a deeper kiss.
The moan she lets out echoes throughout your body as she tugs at your top, coaxing you to assist her in shedding it. You pull it up and over your head, only to see she’s shedding her kimono. Your mouth runs dry. You’ve seen this play out before, but the sight never ceases to remind you just how lucky you are.
Eager to be as close as possible, you both quickly remove the remainder of your clothing.
Her tender kisses make you so dizzy you’re glad she’s the one on top. As she moves her hand to caress your breast, you can’t stop yourself from groaning her name.
“Robin…”
You feel her mouth form a grin against yours. She takes pride in knowing what you like and never fails to make your head spin.
“Yes, love…let me make you feel as good as you’ve made me feel tonight.” Her words are sweet and tender in tone, but erotic at the same time. You feel her fingers teasing at your nipple and your body arches into hers.
“Oh god…please…Robin…”
Her touches remain light, conveying the emotion of this delicate moment. She’s treating you as if you might break, and for all you know, she may be right. You feel her elegant hand brush past your belly, and your face flushes - not out of embarrassment, but out of knowledge and anticipation of what’s coming next.
Your arousal already coats the inside of your thighs, and you’re aching to feel her touch where it’s most needed. As if she’s read your mind, you feel her middle finger tease your entrance. Your head slams back into the pillow, and your reaction tells her you can easily take another finger. Robin meets no resistance as she slides into you.
“Ahhhhhh…Robin…”
“Mmmm…I love hearing you call out my name. You know I’ll always be there for you in any way you need me. Especially like this,” her movements are steady, practiced. You know each other’s bodies down to a science.
“Robin…going to…”
She dips her head down to your ear, the heat of her breath warming your skin. Her teeth graze the shell of your ear as her seductive voice - the voice that is both tender and teasing at the same time - whispers, “I know…let me hear you…”
And just like that, you shatter. Your eyes snap shut from the intensity of your orgasm, but the image of Robin’s beautiful smile remains etched in your mind.
She carefully moves to lay beside you and kisses your cheek as you bask in the afterglow of what’s just occurred. A strand of your hair sticks to your flushed face, and you feel her soft fingers brush it away as your breathing slows. When you turn your head to look over at her, you’re greeted by her gleaming smile.
“Welcome back, love,” she whispers coyly.
You lean over to kiss her and, in no time at all, your positions are now reversed. Words can only convey so much - now it’s her turn. When your lips part, you look into her eyes and say, “Now let me show you how loved you are.”
She wraps her arms around your neck and pulls you back down towards her, your mouths crashing together once more. You feel her tongue push past your lips and suddenly your chest feels like it’s on fire. Your hand hovers over her breast and you feel her hum in anticipation. Sliding your thumb back and forth over her hardening nipple, she sighs at your touch.
“I love how intelligent you are,” you murmur as you lean up to kiss her forehead. Making your way back to her lips, you continue, “I love your wit and humor, even when it’s dark and freaks out Usopp.” You feel her chuckle vibrate against your teeth. Knowing she’s now completely relaxed, you glide your hand from her breast to between her legs. She gasps as you lubricate your fingers with her slick.
As you kiss her neck, you whisper, “You are the bravest, strongest woman I know and it’s one of the many reasons I look up to you.” You mark her neck, leaving a reminder you know she’ll see in the morning and playfully chastise you for later.
Resting your chin on her chest, you watch as she closes her eyes in ecstasy at the feel of your fingertips on her bud. The beating of her heart is the most beautiful rhythm you’ve ever heard and reflects the vision that now lies beneath you.
“Your caring heart and selflessness are just a few of the many traits I adore.” You continue showering her in affirmations as you slide your finger up and down her slit.
“Y/n…I need you,” she whimpers.
“Of course, my flower. You know I’m always here to take care of you,” you reply as you sit up and gently part her legs. Positioning yourself between them, you place one hand next to her head for support. Your cores now aligned, you start to slowly thrust against her.
“Ohhhhhhh yes!” she moans.
You start to speed up your rhythm as the evidence of your arousal mixes with her own. With your other hand, you reach for hers and your fingers interlock.
Between ragged breaths, you somehow choke out, “I thank the universe every day for you. I love you, Robin.”
Her head snaps back and you feel her tremble under you. She moans your name between your whispers ‘I love you’ as her orgasm washes over her. You watch as she comes undone. As the only one who gets to see this side of her, you feel like the luckiest person in all of the Grand Line.
You grind out your own release and come once again, nearly toppling over. When you next open your eyes, a red-faced Robin is smiling back up at you. Bringing your face to hers, you nuzzle your nose against hers before lying down next to her. You pull her to you, her head pillowed comfortably against your chest. You run your hand through her hair and bring her hand to your chest where your heart steadily beats for her.
Kissing her forehead, you say, “I love you. You’re not a burden, and you’re not alone anymore. If you ever have these thoughts or feelings again, promise me you’ll come to me. We’ll talk it out. Or do this again,” you say with a wink.
You feel her burrow closer. “I promise. I love you, too. And…thank you.”

Straw hats x child! reader
Summary: Jinbei finally joined the straw hats crew, but he couldn't shake off the feeling of weariness. wc: 585 requested? <yes> <no> requests = open ft: Jinbei, Robin, Nami warning: stalkerism(?), tripping ppl (that's bad kids), not asking for permission
After a long and grueling battle, Kaido and Big Mom, the two most feared pirates in the world, were finally defeated. The crew let out a cheer of triumph and were all filled with relief and joy. During the celebration, we got a new member named Jinbei.
He was a big fella who wore a traditional kimono with pretty patterns. His hair looks fluffy, and his chest looks cuddly. The first thing that came to mind when you first saw him was a plushie!
You and your crew had recently left Wano. It was a beautiful country. The trees to the people. The plants to the extreme scenery. Jinbei, as the crew's helmsman, was steering the wheel, getting directions from Nami to the next destination.
Jinbei couldn't shake the feeling of a constant presence on the ship. Despite the loud noise of the crew's constant chatter, Jinbei's senses were heightened, and he felt like he was being watched. Although he couldn't pinpoint the source of the strange feeling, it was clear that something was amiss, and Jinbei couldn't ignore it.
"This is the perfect chance," you had thought. You had been eyeing Jinbei for quite some time now. The crew knows that you like sleeping in random places. And when you first saw Jinbei, you knew you had to do it.
You approached the helmsman and spoke." "Hi, Mr. Jinbei. Ms. Nami said that the sea should be fine for now. So, you could leave your post and join us!"
"Is that so?" he replied,
You nodded in agreement and continued, "Let's go down Mr. Jinbei!"
You deftly dodged the thin rope you had placed earlier, then heard a thud as you turned around. Quickly, you climbed onto Jinbei's stomach and lay down, leaving the helmsman in shock.
The others, of course, heard the thud. Nami and Robin went up and saw you almost falling asleep on top of Jinbei.
Robin, who was quick to act, pulled you off of Jinbei, earning a little whine from you.
"Y/n, is that how we should act?" She said.
You frowned and didn't dare to look at the three's eyes. Though you have noticed that Jinbei finally got up.
"No…" you quietly muttered.
"And what is the right way?" Robin asked.
"I should ask first…" you answered.
"And what did you not do?" She asked once again.
"I didn't ask…b-but I just wanna know what it's like!" you started tearing up, and your voice started to crack, "I-I'm sorry, Mr. Jinbei!" you wiggled out of Robin's grasp and hugged the fishman's leg.
The fisherman only smiled and chuckled. He then patted your head and said, "No worries, Y/n. You should've asked."
Nami tapped your shoulders from behind, and you immediately turned around. One of her arms was behind her back while the other was squishing your cheek.
"Hey, Y/n, what do you think I got?" She grinned cheekily
"Uhm, candy!" you shouted.
"Boo,"
"Hm, a clip?"
"Boo, do you give up?"
You nodded hastily, excited for the surprise. There, Nami's right arm finally came into your view, and she gave you a medium-sized plushie.
"I noticed you looking at the stores and Jinbei, so I thought I'd get you one. You better be happy, alright?"
"Thank you so much, miss Nami!" You quickly ran from Nami and hugged her legs, thanking her.
"Now, you shouldn't bother Jinbei-san as much, ok? He's also busy. I know you wanted a cuddle buddy, so from now on. He'll be your cuddle buddy!"

Hello! May I request romantic/platonic headcanons for Brook from One Piece and fem!Tanjiro!reader?
When a Blood Demon Art transported the reader and Nezuko to the One Piece world, they are found by the Straw Hat Pirates.
-“Nezuko!!” you leapt at your sister, clenching your eyes tightly as you felt the claws of the demon slashed across your back and cheek, aiming for your now unconscious sister.
-The demon laughed loudly, seeing your action as foolish, “Idiot!” as you cried out, tumbling hard to the ground, clutching Nezuko tightly to your chest, rolling several feet from the force of the blow.
-He approached, hunched over, dragging his sword on the ground behind him, the metal scraping against the rocks.
-You couldn’t open your right eye, try as you might, as you could hear him coming closer and closer with each step before the sound of the sword on the rocks left as he lifted his sword up, swirling ribbons of black fire surrounding his sword.
-Nezuko’s eyes snapped open, feeling the blood lust and shot her hand up as the blade was coming down, ruby red flames instantly surrounding both you and her.
-As the two Demon Blood Arts collided, a massive explosion occurred, momentarily stunning the demon who was blown back and as the dust cleared, you and Nezuko were nowhere to be seen.
-On the main deck of The Thousand Sunny, the ship of the Straw Hat Pirates, the crew was enjoying a massive barbeque, celebrating the arrival of their newest crew member, Jinbei!
-Nami and Robin were sunbathing, enjoying the fruity drinks Sanji had prepared, along with Chopper who was laying under their umbrella, napping, surprisingly able to sleep with all of the noise of the men of the crew who were eating, laughing, drinking, and just having fun!
-Almost instantly, Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, and Jinbei all froze, turning, with Usopp sensing that they felt only moments later, all standing on guard, sensing intense blood lust as everyone else was quickly on edge as well.
-A swirling ball of black and ruby red flames suddenly appeared, hovering a few feet above the deck as Usopp, Chopper, and Nami panicked, screaming while Franky lifted his sunglasses off his eyes, “Oi-oi that better not burn my ship!!”
-Jinbei tucked his fist to his side, his other lifting as a ball of water appeared, ready to put it out while Brook had his sword at the ready, standing next to Robin who lifted her arms, stepping in front of Nami as she grabbed her Clima-Tact.
-The ball of fire dropped someone who landed hard on the ground in a heap, covered in wounds before the ball swirled out of existence.
-Eyes were wide, seeing these two people, one of them heavily injured while other looked to be only a child, a bamboo mouthpiece blocking her mouth, both of their clothes smoking from the remains of the fire.
-Jaws dropped all around as many called out in shock and fear, eyes shooting out of their heads, not understanding where they had come from.
-Zoro was quick to notice your sword by your side, having rolled out of your purple hand which was now broken, before Luffy approached, kneeling next to you with no fear, poking your side, receiving no response.
-That feeling of bloodlust was gone as the others were quick to approach, Chopper running over and had Robin and Nami help him pull you and your sister apart, laying you both on your backs.
-Sanji was immediately furious, seeing that two young ladies were heavily injured, you more than your sister, who shocked everyone as her wounds were rapidly healing, leaving only the blood that needed to be wiped away.
- Robin carefully cradled your head, helping to turn it so Chopper could look at the wounds across your neck and face, which looked like claw marks.
-Nezuko’s eyes instantly shot open when Luffy poked her belly, shocking them all as she instantly leapt up in a backflip, landing on all fours, growling darkly as her eyes seemed to narrow darkly.
-Zoro instantly drew one of his swords, ready to attack, before Nami and Sanji both kicked him hard, sending him flying, “That’s a child, you idiot!!”
-Nezuko was quick to approach, growling lowly at Robin, reminding her more of a wild animal rather than a child as her attention went to you, seeing you injured.
-Tears instantly welled in her eyes, one of her hands patting your uninjured cheek, wanting you to wake up.
-Luffy was quick to pick her up, sitting back with her in his arms, surprising her, but she felt like this man was someone she could trust, “So who are you?”
-She called out from behind her mouthpiece, unable to speak properly and instantly Usopp grinned, “Here, let me help.” He pulled her mouthpiece off, revealing her mouth of sharp teeth, making Usopp scream in fear leaping back.
-Chopped got attention back on you, “We need to get her into surgery. Robin will you help me?” she instantly agreed and after getting a stretcher, Sanji and Usopp carried your body into the infirmary, leaving the rest to take care of Nezuko, who was crying out, trying to get to you, her arms stretching towards you, unable to change forms at the moment, due to being a bit weak from the transport.
-Chopper and Robin were in surgery for almost three hours, getting you patched up, from the claw marks to a stab wound in your stomach, your broken hand, and your eye, which is what took the longest to deal with.
-Nezuko was running around, avoiding the crew who were playing tag with her, many amazed that she was so good at dodging them, making it look effortless, but she was having fun, after being cleaned up and her clothes washed.
-Zoro was as still as a statue while she sat on his lap as he was looking at your sword, seeing that it was very well forged, it was amazing! She beamed up at him, making his eyelid twitch lightly before she saw Robin and Chopper, running over to them.
-Chopper patted her head, being right about the same height as her, “She will be okay soon. She’s resting now.” While Robin inquired if they had managed to figure out who the two of you were.
-It was three days later when you finally woke up, scaring Chopper who leapt back in fear as you had shot straight up, “Nezuko?!”
-You flinched, hearing the scream and your eyes widened, seeing, “A…deer?” he instantly glared, talking, which surprised you, “Oi! I’m not a- wait what?! Yes, I’m a reindeer!” as he said this he leapt into your arms, startling you as he cried, lamenting that he was always called a tanuki!
-He then forced to lie back down, as he wanted to check to make sure you didn’t rip any stitches, while you were so confused, curious as to where you were, lifting a hand to the one eye you couldn’t open, finding a thick bandage over it.
-Once your exam was completed Chopper introduced himself to you and told you how you and your sister, Nezuko, came to be on their ship.
-You were in awe, unable to figure out how you were transported here, into what looked to be a new world completely before Chopper told you that Nezuko was completely fine, and was currently outside playing with Luffy and the others. You almost freaked, hearing that she was in the sun, but to hear that she was okay, the sun not doing anything to her, you calmed, but it did raise more questions.
-Luffy was ecstatic that you were finally awake, cheering loudly as he and Nezuko both ran into the infirmary, after Chopped told everyone that you were awake.
-Only moments later Luffy was being yelled at by both Nami and Chopper, covered in lumps as he and Nezuko leapt at you, tipping the bed over and by default, sending you to the ground.
-You weren’t bothered by it, not overly hurt as you held Nezuko, who was sobbing in your arms, her mouthpiece nearby, as Robin helped you back onto the bed.
-When all of the Straw Hats had arrived to the infirmary, you were initially wary of Brook and Jinbei, worried that they were demons, but Nezuko was completely fine with them, telling you that they were not a threat.
-Luffy was an unusual individual, his personality was so wild and warm, but you could sense he was incredibly strong at the same time, many of these people were strong, you could sense their auras that seemed to ooze power.
-You explained what the last thing you remembered was, fighting a demon who tried to attack Nezuko, taking the hit yourself instead and when he went to attack you both, Nezuko used her own Demon Blood Art to protect you both and that’s where everything went black.
-You answered all of their questions and they learned you were in the Demon Slayer Corps, and Nezuko was a demon, having been changed by another demon who slaughtered your whole family, and you were looking for a cure for her.
-Luffy immediately recruited the two of you into his crew, not taking no for an answer, and you weren’t able to refuse, as you had no clue about anything in this world, and you knew that Nezuko would be safe.
-The next month had been a bit rough on both you and Nezuko, as you were still healing, and dealing with these new people, Zoro being the only one who was a bit hostile towards you, at first, but according to Nami, he’s like that with everyone.
-Zoro came around when he saw you practicing your breathing techniques, instantly intrigued and asked to spar with you, but was quickly shut down by Franky and Usopp, as you were still injured, only allowed to practice a bit.
-When he tried to face you in a match, once you were completely better, you stunned everyone by taking him out, not with your sword, but with a brutal headbutt, as you had an opening to take him out and you took it.
-When Nezuko, after recharging for several days after you woke up, she shocked everyone by changing her form, from her child form she’s been stuck in since she first arrived, to her normal form, only a bit shorter than you, and after seeing how Sanji was with Robin, Nami, and you, you were concerned about him seeing her adult form, as he was a pervert.
-Sanji was respectful, treating you and Nezuko like the other girls on the ship, way better than the men, doting on all four of you by giving you food first and making sure you all had the most beautifully presented meals.
-It was a bit of a learning curve for you and Nezuko, as neither one of you knew how to use a fork and knife, growing up on chopsticks, so you had to learn how to use them.
-You were actually quite shy around Nami and Robin, who were quite liberated with their clothing, as you were raised in a more modest environment, however they both thought your shyness was rather endearing, thinking you were cute, which would fluster you even more.
-Nami taught you about this new world, showing you the naps and she would be the one you would go onto islands with, to show you around.
-Robin was very mature and level-headed and became almost like a mother figure to you both, doting on you and she would always be willing to read to you, as you couldn’t read anything in this new world, until she started to teach you.
-Franky and Usopp were very patient with the two of you, showing you technology that you had no idea existed, showing you their inventions and weapons.
-Jinbei was one you were a little nervous around, as you had thought he was a demon, but after getting to know him and learning he was a fishman, not a demon, you relaxed and he became like a mentor to you, as he could tell, behind your warm smile, you were hiding a lot of pain.
-Luffy became like an older brother to you and Nezuko, adoring you both, cuddling you both senseless, and you became one of the only ones that he would listen to, mainly because you were share your food with him.
-Chopper had become your best friend, allowing you and Nezuko both to cuddle him as he was working on studying both yours and Nezuko’s blood, with hopes that he might be able to find a cure for you.
-Brook was…unusual to say the least, you had thought he was a demon as well, until he explained how he ate a Devil Fruit, which brought him back to life once he died, just as a skeleton.
-You also learned he was a pervert as well, as his first words to you, after introducing himself to you, was, “May I see your panties?” but Nami, Sanji, and Chopper were quick to beat him into submission.
-Brook was soothing if you had to choose a word, when he would play his violin for you and Nezuko, you both would always end up falling asleep, curled up with each other.
-He thought this was rather cute and despite the occasional panties request, he was so sweet and gentlemanly with you, but at the same time cracking jokes.
-When you would beam up at him, thanking him sweetly for a song, he would look stoic, “I would smile back, but alas, I have no lips, yo-ho-ho-ho-ho~”
-It was strange, becoming members on a pirate crew, as you had never imagined yourself in such a position, but at the same time, it felt so right, like it’s where you belonged.
-Nezuko was happy too, being able to run around and have fun, playing in the sunshine again, and just being free, away from others who would fear her just because she was a demon.
-After being on Sunny for two months, you felt like you belonged nowhere else than here with them, with your family.
-You were on the night watch, sitting up in the crow’s nest, Nezuko asleep with her head on your lap before you heard footsteps, turning to see Brook who greeted you warmly, “Hello Y/N-san, may I join you?”
-You smiled softly up at him, “Of course Brook.” He sat beside you and stared out across the horizon, illuminated by the almost full moon.
-Brook felt a kinship with you, as you were something not of this world, as was he, since he was dead, but still here, alive at the same time, that’s why he was so drawn to you, as well as your warm smile and kind heart, but also your fierce loyalty and determination. You were such a complex young lady but at the same time, you seemed so simple.
-You leaned your head against his shoulder, surprising him as he looked down at you before relaxing, “I apologize for not being very comfortable. I would be if I had some muscles, or maybe even some skin yo-ho-ho-ho-ho~”
-You smiled softly, giving a soft shake of your head, “You’re plenty comfortable Brook.” He relaxed a bit, leaning his cheek down on the top of your head.
-You sat in comfortable silence for a long while until Brook spoke, “Y/N-san, may I ask you a question?” you smiled, expecting to be asked about your panties again, “Sure.”
-He was silent for a moment or two, surprising you, before he spoke, his voice soft, almost hesitant, “May I hold your hand?”
-Your eyes widened for only a second before you slid your free hand to him, letting him take it, his bones gripping gently, and he seemed to relax, “It’s warm.”
-You said nothing and you and Brook both smiled as Nezuko woke up, reaching one of her hands over as well, placing her hand on top of his, making him chuckle softly.
-The night was quiet and beautiful.

“The resolution of this incident the following day would inflict a kind of shock the world never saw coming.” The words that set the stage for the event that will take place surrounding the Straw Hats beyond chapter 1078.
Each time we’ve seen a major battle where an Emperor has been involved, one side is usually completely devastated by the end. At Marineford, the Whitebeard Pirates lost their captain and a division commander. Kaido and Big Mom’s alliance was thoroughly torn down by the Ninja-Pirate-Mink-Samurai alliance.
As part of the lead up to Wano, chapter 909 gives a reminder of Marineford, before Marco tells Neko that the crew later regrouped to fight Blackbeard.
Forget Blackbeard having two devil fruits, the important thing is that going after an Emperor without allies or merely for the sake of revenge is asking to fail, as much as that stings. Recklessness or going it alone won’t work against an Emperor. I know it’s a joke in some parts of the fandom that Oda likes being mean to the Whitebeard Pirates, but it’s kinda true.
I love Whole Cake Island, though it is a miracle among miracles that the Straw Hats and co made it out of Totland with such few losses. There’s still a part of me that feels that things lined up a bit too well for them there at the end, even accounting for Luffy’s tremendous luck. My own thoughts on the escape from Whole Cake Island aside, the crew reaching Laughtale will feel much better the less allies all come out of the woodwork at the most convenient time.
Getting back to chapter 909, Marco’s words here likely resonated with the big kitty next to him, Neko being a retainer of Oden who is preparing to fight a big war and has a similar motive. Marco wanting to “make that ingrate pay,” sounds a lot like a dark version of returning a favor. Difference is, preparation for the raid on Onigashima has been building for the past 20 years for the characters, and since Punk Hazard for the readers. The samurai having the Straw Hats specifically on their side is a major boon too. I love Hyogoro’s line about the crew turning despair into hope.
The Straw Hats are folks who had no prior connections to Kaido, and who could go into the battle with clearer heads. Which allowed the samurai focus their energy where it was most needed, after their role in starting off the raid by getting the jump on Kaido in that very cool panel. Whether that be facing an opponent other than Kaido, overcoming a setback for the sake of others, or realizing there is a future for them beyond the battle. Several parts of Wano feel like they are subverting the Marineford War or the Payback War that the Whitebeard remnants fought. Especially in scenes where Luffy, Marco, or Izo are involved.
And that brings us to Law and Kidd this arc. One got into a battle against Blackbeard, the other Shanks. During Wano, both had an alliance to depend on, willingly or not. Though that is no longer the case for the two of them and I can’t say that I’ve got high hopes for either succeeding against the respective Emperor’s crew they are facing.
The Straw Hats are the Emperor’s crew now and have taken the time to gather allies who could assist them, or in the case of the Grand Fleet, had them join anyway. Major three are Fishman Island and Wano flying the crew’s Jolly Roger, and the Grand Fleet.
Jinbei is here as rep for Fishman Island/the Sun Pirates, the Grand Fleet appearing has been heavily foreshadowed, and given everything about Kiku during Wano’s conclusion, several members of Wano’s cast being directly mentioned by Straw Hats on Egghead, and the many ideas that play well with themes present in Kiku’s story, I find it difficult to come up with any solid counter points to the most floral member of the Akazaya joining the Straw Hats and filling a similar role to Jinbei in the story. I’m thinking Denjiro in 975 is a good example to look at for how parts of Kiku’s potential reveal could happen. Subduing a big threat, speaking of owing a great debt, leading reinforcements. Bonus points if the weather machine on Egghead gets broken and the snow surrounding the island slowly closes in.

Hello! May I please request a headcanon post about the Strawhats as travelling merchants?
Heyya! Sure thing 🍞 this was quite an interesting one to write! I won't deny that 90% of my merchant knowledge comes from Spice & Wolf 🤣🍀 hope you enjoy~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Headcanons: The Straw-Hat's being travelling merchants
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Straw-Hat Crew
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Robin📚 The researcher. Market research, audience studies, target market, trends, demand and supply. Robin takes care of all of it. She is precise and proficient that she can usually guess a good investment and stock up on things before a massive price boom. She knows the location they are going to visit beforehand, she research the markets, what they have and what they need. Handles all official paperwork such as travel permits and declaration forms of their products and wares.
Nami🍊 Money and maps. The books, the profits, the expenditure. Not a single beri escapes her gaze. She often works on the books and focuses on how to maximize those profits so that the zeros only grow positively in the bank. She's in it to win it and will work alongside Robin whenever she sniffs out a good chance to make some coin. Nami also plans out the most efficient routes to their next destination.
Brook 🎻 Handles the advertising, he uses his skills with music to attract people almost like a pied piper. The music creates a soothing and pleasant atmosphere for the people who come around to shop and peruse the Straw Hats various wares. He leaves his hat out as a welcome for tips, Nami's idea of course.
Franky 🤖 Franky mostly handles repairs for the various wagons and carts the group need when travelling. He is usually there to handle appraisals as well, having a very good eye to see through bad materials. He creates mechanical knickknacks for sale and offers repair services for all sorts of things.
Usopp 🏹 The salesman could probably sell your own liver back to you. He has a silver tongue and a great well of flattery up his sleeve. Ussop is the best man for the job as he chats up every product perfectly, so much so that nearly everything he proclaims the greatness of will sell out. For every product he has a tall tale to go with it. Customers want value and sensationalism which Ussop knows very well.
Luffy 🍖 An unusual and strange charm that tends to draw customers and trouble. Luffy is the head of their little band of merchants and dictates where they go. A bit inconvenient as Luffy is very erratic and his paths are never linear, usually leading them to the most random location. Usually results getting into arguments with other merchants. A territorial dispute you could say. Though Luffy usually convinces those merchants to just work alongside them.
Sanji 🍽 Sanji is in charge of cooking meals for the Straw Hats as well as trading spices, making food to draw more customers by offering snacks and samples. He calls the shots on rare ingredients and whether it's better to trade them or cook them. A lot of returning customers are there for Sanji's food and his ever so convenient mixed spice packs.
Zoro ⚔ Zoro is not well versed in the matters of trade, nor bookkeeping and even making something to sell. So what he does handle is the security. Brawn is his literal strong suit and he works hard to protect the merchants, their wares and any apparatus. There usually aren't any problems, because Zoro takes care of them quickly. If its too overwhelming a few others would step in but thus far a situation where it's been too much has not arisen.
Jinbei 🥋 Jinbei is in charge of driving the wagon and heading the wagon train. He coordinates the setting up of their little market area. Works closely with Nami when planning routes as Jinbei takes all the obstacles into account when travelling. Also being one of the more amicable and well versed members, he handles negotiations for locations and permissions to set up a campsite doubled traveling shop.
Chopper 🍭 Medicine and Animals. Chopper makes various salves, medicines, and ointments for a wide variety of things. In fact Miracle Medicine is not too far off to describe the health tonics he creates. They are one of the best sellers that the Straw Hat merchant group has to offer. Chopper also takes it upon himself to look after the animals that help with pulling the wagons when they travel on land, as well as offering free medical check ups for anyone that seeks one.
I neeeeeeed to know about "luffy slips into an alternate timeline/dimension where he "died" instead of sabo and meets an older ace/sabo" I live for stuff like this please
sorry this took me so long! i. didn't realize you had sent an ask rip (that stupid sanji post has annihilated my activity page im in hell)
omg this one is actually one that i'm least likely to actually write because it has the potential to be Long (as you can see with the giant outline), but i wanted to kind of play around with the idea of luffy-less world in the post-timeskip era, because i really like time travel/redo fics where everyone is better/stronger but i think it would be NEAT if the straw hats had to fix things that might have happened if luffy died as a kid. think "doomed timeline" (if that means anything to you). even though the premise is technically ASL i am a straw hat bitch through and through so it's actually more of straw hat fic than the original idea.
here's a copy/paste under the cut (you will see that i write a lot of notes to myself in these things)
takes place post-timeskip era
sabo has no connection to the revolutionary war; he and ace set out as pirates together. because of this, they are not associated with whitebeard (therefore no marineford); instead, they are associated with shanks somehow (maybe; not subordinates tho)
they're no longer two captains one ship, two captains (allied) on two ships (SEE ALT 2)
straw hats have all experienced some form of "bad" ending that leaves them jaded, cynical, or (for some) borderline evil
luffy = strength, joy, freedom optimism; most arcs involve rescues, but i dont think any of the straw hats are "weak" enough to die during their initial crises without luffy, otherwise they wouldnt be straw hats--just win at a massive cost and the next three years would be significantly harder
zoro - frees himself from the courtyard and continues being the demon of the east blue but--
nami - gets the money to free her village, arlong refuses to free cocoyashi; nami seeks out the demon of the east blue in order to take out arlong (in exchange for the money she earned and that arlong has stashed). fight is brutal but they kill arlong; nojiko dies, nami ends up traveling with zoro afterwards bc she has no reason to stay behind with nojiko gone.
they become a well-known, ruthless, and efficient bounty hunting duo on the grand line (bc it earns money and zoro wouldnt make it out of the east blue without her); both are jaded as FUCK bc zoro's dream is stagnant and nami is still wrestling with the guilt of failing her family years later, they're also bloodthirsty because money + power fills the void
usopp - kaya dies in the initial plot to kill her, usopp is blamed and flees the village; gets picked up by the buggy pirates (please this could be so funny please but remember this is supposed to be sad but think of how funny this could be though circus sharpshooter usopp he and buggy would be. so funny in the same room together)
sanji - stays at the baratie until the vinsmokes have a use for him. "wedding"/WCI goes through(?) and/or sanji is a member of the big mom pirates; pudding refuses to kill sanji, big mom is going to kill her but sanji bargains for her life; germa mods are awakened; in order to protect zeff+etc, pretends to be emotionless like his brothers, ends up working as a germa agent instead of staying on WCI because now pudding is as much of a liability as zeff or smth (pudding tho??? pls be nice to her but figure smth out). sanji war crimes
chopper/brook/jinbei remain stagnant
franky - whore do not forget this man was a gang leader who did actual violence; franky family is bigger and badder than ever, babyy
robin - can't stay with crocodile (boring bland unoriginal) put her somewhere she can experience problems; maybe she leaves, ends up on water 7, encounters franky; joins franky family(?) for protection but since she's no longer under a warlord's protection she's fair game for marines/bounty hunters; continues to work as an assassin tho and doesn't stay around much to protect the franky family from the people after her
franky family could potentially work as an alt strawhats "maybe i dont want to die actually" environment for robin; franky helps robin stabilize a little but since they're both kind of Messed Up it's less of a "we're fine actually" and more like "we're fucked up but at least we're fucked up together". they run a Criminal Organization together. they are a gang. robin is an assassin. no one is happy go lucky here even if they have found measure of """"""peace""""""
luffy encounters ace/sabo, it's emotional (obvs; this is self-indulgent)
however his brothers are both fundamentally fine, they are thriving and alive--there's nothing here to fix. you know who isn't fine? his crew.
convinces ace/sabo that they need to find them--whether it's to convince them to join their crew or just to make sure they're okay (whats the motivation here besides luffy wanting them to be happy because they're his family? does he need one? does it even matter?)
ALT 1 are luffy's crew here or did luffy enter the doomed timeline alone. if so--everyone? or just a few
interesting interactions: doomed/real zoro (consider the implications of a zoro who has stagnated/given up on his dream; this guy's got issues but our guy has no self-preservation however maybe they both have no self preservation. interesting convo about worth or value of life without drive)
doomed/real nami (LOTS of grief here babes, but maybe an interesting convo here about strength vs vulnerability)
doomed/real sanji (ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh my god can you imagine. can you imagine how much that would mess him up to see himself become Sanji Vinsmoke)
luffy has fundamentally changed all of their lives for the better but the straw hats are all strong as individuals (physically and emotionally) even before they join the straw hats. that's the point
even if the "doomed" straw hats encounter/join luffy would their lives fundamentally change for the better or are the experiences they accumulate as straw hats what changes them--it's not just luffy going "ur mine now you're happy" it's the development they go through during events/by interacting with each other; maybe some choose to stay where they are but have a shift in perspective of some kind
at least try with asl here
is sabo still kind of unstable? is ace still depressed? how does luffy's absence change them?
ALT 2 consider that they drift apart without luffy to hold them together; luffy makes an effort to reunite them?
#answers#oh my god this is so long#some of my outlines are like this unfortunately#the one i am using for my current fic is just under 8k words#bc it has whole convos and stuff in it and like half a dozen alts#doomed timeline au#gyro.odt
I decided to Sonic style characters again, and yep, I decided to Sonic style the Straw Hat pirates from One Piece. My OP obsession is still coming in at full force and I had the idea to Sonic style the main cast after doing a sketch of Chopper in this style. I kind of happen to enjoy Sonic styling characters I like you know? It's fun to draw in the Sonic style. Here's all ten:
Luffy is a hedgehog for obvious reasons so no explanation needed. I also decided to convert Luffy's Fifth Gear from the Wano Country arc into a Super form for my Sonic styled version of the Straw Hat captain. Gears Second, Third, and Fourth would alter his body while Fifth is his Super form. I always get Hyper Sonic vibes from Gear Five Luffy in general and yet I tend to call it Luffy's Super form lol.
I'm not the best at drawing blades, so that's why I didn't draw them on my Sonic design for Zoro. Just letting you all know as a heads up. Roronoa Zoro was easy to choose a species for: a wolf. It just suits his fighting spirit and rough around the edge personality.
Like Luffy, Nami is also a hedgehog. She was interesting to design since I don't exactly put inappropriate content onto my page. I gave her justice though, and that's all that matters!
Originally I was gonna do something else for the sniper god himself, but after watching Water 7 and see the man go through an Infinite phase before rejoining his friends as his altered ego Sogeking to help rescue Nico Robin from Enies Lobby, I knew that Usopp(aka my second favorite character with Chopper being my first)had to be a jackal. He was fun to design, but was just as complex as Franky.
The last of the East Blue crew is Sanji, and he was the most fun to design out of all of them. He happens to be my favorite that I've done, and I'm too proud of his design! If you're wondering, he's a bat.
I did two designs for my Sonic version of Chopper, my favorite One Piece character. The left one is my first sketch, and the right is one I did of him in one of his iconic Rumble Ball poses. It would of been a crime if I didn't do him in a Rumble Ball pose of some kind; he works really well in the Sonic style in my opinion!
A bit more on the simple side, but I couldn't get the thought of Nico Robin being a cat out of my mind. Here she is in advance! Of course I had to pull off her iconic pose as well.
I'm gonna be real. Franky was the hardest to design. I couldn't at first think of an animal that best suited him, but I chose a fox to be his species due to his intelligence as a shipwright. I was gonna do him in his iconic pose, but oh well. I'll try again next time.
I don't know why but Brook is always so hard for me to come up with because of him being the skeletal musician of the Straw Hats. I ended up choosing an owl for this guy because I figured a nocturnal animal of some kind would best suit him. He actually turned out to be easy to design, so that's less pressure on me.
The final Straw Hat member Sonic styled is Jinbei! I know he's not like Arlong and his men, but you have to remember that Jinbei is also a fishman and that any kind of sea predator would suit him. A shark especially. That's what I designed him as. This also is my first attempt at designing a Sonic shark as well.
That's about everything I have to share, but I'll be Sonic styling some Chopper forms next!
The One Piece anime belongs to Toei Animation; the Sonic style designs for the Straw Hat pirates belongs to me(Thunderheart)
For me its always been something like:
Crossover - characters from x media, with their full x backstory, end up in y media world through whatever plot contrivances are necessary.
(Buffy the Vampire Slayer jumps thru the portal at the end of the 5th season, but instead of going to heaven she ends up in Middle Earth BTVSxLOTR)
But also 'crossover' can be used as a catchall term for any meeting of media x and y in any way
AU: characters from x media are in y media and always have been. They have y media backstories and might be replacing the main cast of y media.
(The Vongola Decimo is a ship on the grand line, and Tsuna has been shanghai-ed by Reborn as her unwilling captain. All flame powers are translated to haki or devil's fruit powers, all other mafia families are pirates too. The straw hats are still out there somewhere. KHR One Piece!AU) and
(Luffy is the next Vongola Decimo, his grandpa sent experienced hitman Jinbei to teach him how to be a mafia boss. His powers are flame powers, and his crew ends up being the Volgola Guardians. The original vongola is not a part of this story. One Piece KHR!AU)
Fusion: x media and y media share the same world, and x lore and y lore have been blended fairly equally, so the fusion is a blend of both worlds. Works best for media with similar genres but doesn't have to be if ur not a coward.
(Tony Stark and Bruce Wayne went to boarding school together and were best friends, both being wierdo nerds, but now the secrets they keep are tearing them apart. The Justice League and the Avengers are both active, and get along fairly well barring some weird tension between Spooky and the Tin Can. SHIELD and Checkmate are bitter rivals, especially in the covert agency intramural softball league. Back in the 40s Steve Rogers and the Howling Commandos did joint exercises with the Losers and got on like a house on fire. Captain America ran missions with and was a part time member of the Justice Society of America. DCxMarvel fusion)
what’s the actual difference between like, fusions, crossovers and aus (where x media is in the universe of y media)??
#its best when powers get balanced sorta realitically#you can always tell when the author likes x media more than y media
someone, who requested to not be named, asked me to try to convince them in a post as to why Jinbei should join the Straw Hat crew. first, i’d like to start off by saying that i, personally, have been rooting for Jinbei to join the Straw Hats ever since Luffy popped the question back on Fishman Island. and there was no doubt in my mind that Jinbei would eventually be a part of the Straw Hat crew, and it really only became a matter of when will he join since then.
so... to those who oppose to or express their dislike of Jinbei as the next Straw Hat member for reasons such as, “he’s not ‘straw hat material’!!” or “he’s too serious to be a Straw Hat...” or “Character A, B, or C should join the Straw Hats instead of Jinbei!!” blah blah blah... and to that, my initial reaction is:
but on a more serious note, when some of you say Jinbei’s not ‘straw hat material’, what exactly do you mean by ‘straw hat material’?? last i checked, there was never a specific set of qualities a character had to have in order for them to become a Straw Hat member. literally, and i mean LITERALLY, the only thing that made one a Straw Hat is based on whether Luffy had invited you to join his crew or not (with Robin being a special case, but that’s not the point here). everyone in the crew has very distinct personalities, so i don’t get this whole ‘straw hat material’ reasoning.
and let me just break this down for those who come up with the reason of not wanting Jinbei to join because he’s “too serious” to be a member of the Straw Hats. so, we were first officially introduced to Jinbei’s character back in Impel Down, and learned that he was imprisoned because he was opposed to the impending war between the Marines and the Whitebeard Pirates. being surrounded in such a grim situation, where you’re trying to prevent a whole damn war from happening, there was no time for Jinbei to even be fooling around. then next, the story delved more deeply into his character during the Fishman Island arc. however, this time he’s found in a sort of similar situation where he’s trying to prevent history from repeating itself. so yes, to some, he may have come across as being a rather serious character up to this point. but if you think about it, there haven’t really been many instances where Jinbei could let loose and show other less serious sides of himself, but that doesn’t mean that his seriousness is all there is to him. in fact, Jinbei has shown that he can be kind of a dork at times too, and his devil-may-care attitude. (***SPOILER ALERT!!!*** for those who haven’t read the manga) we hear from Aladdin that Jinbei has been talking incessantly about Luffy for over the past 2 years since the timeskip, to which Jinbei actually BLUSHED when he realizes he’s been talking about Luffy that often (reminds me of two certain older brothers of Luffy who can’t stop talking about their lil bro either...). and Jinbei also literally laughed in the face of danger while blatantly telling Nami that he’s rebelling against Big Mom. it’s been mentioned time and time again throughout the current arc that no one who ever walked away from Big Mom’s crew has ever lived to tell the tale, and yet here Jinbei is, LAUGHING as he outright declares he’s rebelling against Big Mom. (***END SPOILERS***) so yeah, Jinbei has often showed his serious side when it’s time to be serious, but that’s definitely not all there is to him. and frankly speaking, i think when it comes down to it, if there has to be one absolute requirement to become a Straw Hat, it should be based on whether one is an inherently good person or not; it should go without saying that Jinbei is probably one of the most selfless characters in One Piece.
oh, and let’s not forget how many times Jinbei has saved Luffy’s life too. not once, when he tried to protect an already unconscious Luffy, who just lost Ace, from a direct attack by Akainu... not twice, when he stayed by Luffy’s side during his lowest point and reminded Luffy that he still had reason to live despite just losing Ace in the war... not thrice, when he donated his blood to Luffy, who at the time desperately needed a blood transfusion after losing a large amount of blood back on Fishman Island... and (*SPOILER ALERT*) last but not least, when he saved Luffy from ripping his arms off in a desperate attempt to get out of Mont D’or’s book... (*END SPOILERS*) all in all, Jinbei has saved Luffy 4 times in total... has anyone else saved Luffy from the brink of death more than 4 times, HMMM??? yeah, i didn’t think so.
if you ask me, i honestly think Jinbei is MORE than qualified to be a Straw Hat... like can you just imagine, despite being such a small crew, how much their strength as a whole would multiply with an ex-shichibukai joining them??? what’s more, he can call upon whale sharks too. that’ll surely come in handy with 4 DF users on board, though i’m sure Jinbei is more than capable of easily saving all of them if they were to ever be thrown overboard. and with Jinbei joining, he’ll take over Brook and become the tallest among the crew! Brook will finally have someone to literally look up to. it’ll also be very interesting to see someone like Jinbei being part of the Straw Hat shenanigans!! but most importantly... LARGE FISH UNCLE GIVING HIS TINY (by comparison) CREW MEMBERS A RIDE ON HIS BACK/SHOULDERS!!!
#JINBEI FOR NAKAMA 2K17!!!!!
#One Piece#Jinbei#long post#i hope this convinces you if even just so slightly#i mean sooner or later...#some of you are just gonna have to learn to accept the facts#that Jinbei will likely be the next Straw Hat member#i don't make the rules man#Jinbei's fate was already sealed the moment Luffy popped the question
Hello again!
I LOVE YOUR WORK ABOUT QUITE Y/N WITH STRAWHAT PIRATES! It's just so accurate and I really liked the part with Luffy and Jimbei-
Also, I know it may be to much but-
Can I ask headcanon with same Y/n but she got kidnapped and she almost died because of how much the kidnappers tortured her. Of course, Strawhats came for her on time and..I wonder, will their behavior change or..?
Again, if you feel uncomfortable with it - please ignore this.
Have a great day!
Sorry for the late response!
Everyone is distraught
They let the youngest and weakest member get caught, and you ended up hurt because of them
And for once on the ship, everything is quiet
The only thing that can be heard is the splash of waves against the ship, and the sound of the wind whistling past the ship’s mast
Everyone feels guilty
After you recover, you notice that everyone talks in softer voices and tones
Are more mindful when they are rough-housing
And Robin makes you train with everyone now so that you never have to experience the same thing again
Jinbei is training you more intensely than ever. He also starts to get frustrated when you can’t do a move right, but once he sees you getting upset, he’ll call for training for the day
Zoro is keeping his eye on you now. Even when he is sleeping, you can always feel his gaze
He went up to Robin to ask if it was okay for him to try and teach you how to use swords. And after a bit of silence, she said it was okay
Sanji is ramping up the nutrition in your food and tries to teach you some basic kicks
Luffy tries to make everyone laugh because the morale of the ship has been low ever since you were kidnapped
Usopp makes you a weapon that is based on your skills, and I think that it gives everyone a little bit of comfort
Franky tries to cheer you up. He tries not to treat you any differently (so you don’t feel bad), but you notice that he steers you away from more of the dangerous stuff in the workshop that you two used to mess around with
Chopper is always on his toes about your health now. Seeing as you were almost killed, he has been super attentive since
Nami also keeps an eye on you. And when she can she likes to be near you to make sure nothing happens
Brook is very sympathetic. He understands that you feel as if you are being babied, but he also shows you the straw hat’s side
I think it gets to a point where you feel so suffocated that you would run away on the next island
This of course reminds the crew of when you were kidnapped, so they start to panic
But when they find you alone, safe, and crying they realize that they messed up
You guys have to try to rebuild the environment on the ship
But it’s hard for them because they almost lost a crew member
After discussing it for a long while, you guys all decided that it would be best if you trained for a while on land
And if you refuse, then your training with Jinbei is going to get intense
Straw Hats x Fem reader familial fluff! I wanna see the Straw Hats reactions when they find out their sweet stemstress crew member actually secretly made plushies of all of them, including different cute outfits! BTW, Chopper plushie has a LOT more different cute costumes!
⟡ ֺ 𓂂 headcanons , with a seamstress/seamster crewmate who made them plushies.
✸ characters! . . . the straw hats.
✸ cw(s)! . . . platonic. the request says seamstress, but this is gn! no pronouns used. not proofread.
✸ notes! . . . loved this sm !! i hope i did it justice. thank you so much for requesting !!
luffy absolutely LOVES his, hardly even letting you finish talking before grabbing onto the plushie that looks just like him and running out the door to fly it around like an action figure
he can be a little rough with it. he teared up seeing that he broke the little plushie’s arm off within the first few hours of having it.
you reassure him that it’s okay and that you can just sew it back on and it’s good as new
chopper, like luffy, loves his plushie. he gives you a lot of compliments about how it looks just like him. he gives you the tightest hug
chopper brings his mini-me with him everywhere. because of all the cute outfits that you’ve made for it, he is always matching outfits with the plushie
the reindeer doctor definitely sleeps with the plushie right by his side
usopp keeps his plushie on his workshop desk between his lamp and a cup of pencils and pens where he can always see it
he has developed an unintentional habit of talking to the plushie and showing it his blueprints and new weapons as if it was a real person. there’s something comforting about it
nami keeps hers in the vanity of the girls’ room, so she can see it in every room when she’s getting ready for the day in the morning and when she’s getting ready for bed at night
she loves changing her plushie’s outfit every day. it becomes part of her daily routine
like usopp, nami definitely talks to hers from time to time, ranting about her day or what crazy things luffy has managed to get them into
robin finds her mini-me quite adorable. you know she loves cute things. she couldn’t have asked for a better gift
she keeps her plushie on the nightstand next to her bed, wanting it to be the first thing she sees in the morning and the last thing she sees at night
there are nights were she can’t sleep, her mind refusing to let her relax. she holds onto her plushie and is reminded of you and the rest of the crew, her family
franky adores his mini-me. you even gave it, its own little bottle of cola ?? he could just hug you forever
he adds a little voice box (with your permission of course) to his plushie and records himself saying a few of his catchphrases. so when he does squeeze it, it lets out a little “super!!”
that’s his little son :,)
just when jinbei thought there was no way you could get any more precious, you place the plushie version of himself in his hand
he takes such great care of his mini-me. it’s so nice to see him eating with his plushie sitting on his shoulder. or when he’s going for a swim and his mini-me is sitting on a beach chair not too far behind
brook thinks his little skeleton plushie is so precious. he loves your attention to detail. he finds you including his scar very endearing
you even made it a little tea cup that matches his tea cup
he definitely has tea parties with his mini-me and invites you <3
it’s a gift from you, of course, sanji loves it !! how thoughtful of you to make something for him
he’s not really sure how to explain it. it gives him a mirror of how you see him and you care for him. it’s really comforting. he can’t help but smile and every time he sees little plushie him
zoro is not really vocal in his appreciation for his plushie. he’s not really one for plushies. it worries you that he doesn’t like it at first because he’s just looking at it without saying anything :((
but he does love it !! he does !! he even loves that you made his swords to match. you’ll see him from time to time napping on the deck with little plushie zoro in his lap or right next to him
After seeing the last episode on the YouTube channel GrandLineReview, I wanted to comment about a thing I hate about One Piece, but it was too long (as all my writtings tend to be), so I’m posting it here.
I apologise for all gramatical mistakes that will inevitabely appear.
I hate how female characters either don’t appear as much as males or are left as background characters while the males duke it out.
Marines: I can remember about three female characters from the top of my head (Tashigi, Tsuru and Hina) and even though there are more (Tsuru’s crew) there is nowhere near enough to counter the males. Additionally, we know of two former Fleet Admirals (Sengoku and Kong), one current (Sakazuki), and five Admirals (Akainu [former], Aokiji [former], Kizaru, Fujitora and Ryokugyu). Notice a trend? All males.
Cipher Pol: While writting about the Marines, I thought that maybe the reason for the lack of females was that the society at large expected women to not fight and simply take care of the house. With that being the case, it would make sense for Marines to promote the idea, since it would fit with the world at large. It would also make sense for the lack of female characters in CP1-8, since those are known to public (maybe even CP0, since they work mainly for the World Nobles and need to keep up the appearances). But it would not explain CP9, which is an allegedly assassination organisation unknown to the world. In that case a female would be more inconspicuous and thus better at assassination. So, either my idea is wrong and the Marines and CP0-8 have no real explanation for their lack of females or CP9 has no good explanation for only having Kalifa out of at least 8 known characters.
Pirates: Even if theory of misogyny mentioned above is true, pirates, who rebel against the World Government should have a better track record.
Shichibukai (including former, but not Blackbeard, since he’ll be a bit down with the Yonko): Admitedly, Shichibukai work for the World Government, but they’re more of independant contractors than actual employees. So, from all the know Shichibukai Mihawk, Kuma and Weevil get a pass, since they don’t have a crew. Boa Hancock gets one as well, since she does have an all female crew, but her whole crew (present, past and future, since Kija Pirates just seem to pass from generation to generation) is made of Kuja women only and doesn’t seem inclined to recruit out of her island. Which kind of makes sense, but is also discriminatory of every non-Kuja woman. Now to the rest. Crocodile had a bounty hunter organisation that employed both males and females, most notably current Straw Hat Nico Robin, who, once they got up high enough on the ladder worked in male-female duos. That sounds good, but (while I am not going to go back to manga/anime) I remember that, when explaining the structure of Baroque Works to Straw Hats, Vivi said that the number agents are the strongest men in the organisation, who then get a female partner with complementary skill set. Enough said. Next, Moria. But, there’s not much to say, since he basically had 3 living crew members and with that number it’s either man-man-woman or man-woman-woman, so it’s good enough that he didn’t have three men. Jinbei and honestly Fisher Tiger (who I still love and cry when I see him die) did a terrible job at gender equality, since there are no fishwomen or mermaids on the crew of Sun Pirates (there’s Praline, but she’s Aladins wife and joins during time-skip as a part of alliance with Big Mom, so I’m not really counting her). And we have no evidence that fishwomen or mermaids would be any worse at fighting than mermen or fishmen. Trafalgar Law does a bit better, but with one woman out of 20 crew members it’s still not much. Buggy (a guy I totally forgot was a part of this group, sorry Buggy fans) has a huge crew, but out of the well known ones, I’m pretty sure that only Alvida is female, but I cannot be certain that he doesn’t have more. And lastly, Doflamingo. Here I only count the Donquixote Family, since counting every minion would take too long. Out of his Elite Officers (the guys that stood for heart, club, diamond and spade) there were five (Roscinante and Vergo both standing for heart) and all male. Each of them could have subordinates which were: Giolla, Sugar, Violet, Lao G, Senor Pink, Dellinger, Machvise, Gladius, Buffalo, Baby 5. Then there was Monet, who was part of the family, but neither as an elite officer or an official subordinate of one. In total, out of 16 there are 5 females. Like with Moria, it is roughly one third, but better than some other and Doflamingo could have had more females. My main concern nere were the Elite Officers, but they were in general much harder to defeat than the other. Those that jump out would be Sugar (as being hard to defeat, but we need to take into consideration that she was being actively protected by Trebol), Vergo (being easier to defeat than other Elite Officers [in my oppinion], but that took Laws genuinly OP Devil Fruit] and Roscinante (since he didn’t seem to do much and his Devil Fruit was kind of useless, so he either had hidden skill we didn’t see or nepotism).
Yonko: Since this is much lower on the list, I actually thought through the order of writting (from most women inclusive to least) and am not winging it like the rest. Firstly, Big Mom (Charlotte Linlin). She is a female and her crew is greatly inclusive to both genders and all races (species?), though the higher ups (Sweet Commanders, Ministers) seem to be ONLY her children. That means that unless a blood relative of hers a character has little to no chance of mattering. But that could be due to both her and her children, in general, being stronger than at least humans, as well as most of her crew being made up of Homies (if I remember correctly). Out of her three (formerly four) Sweet Commanders one, Smoothie, is female and, while she is weaker than Katakuri (like most of her family), her bounty is higher than Crackers, so she presents a bigger threat according to the World Government. Taking her and Crackers Devil Fruits into consideration, it is likely that Smoothie is more powerful than Cracker (without Devil Fruit), since Cracker can use his whenever he feels like but Smoothie seems to need to get close up, making her fruit harder to use against many enemies at once and thus needing to rely on other abilities. Like Big Mom, Kaido does employ many females, but not as much where it counts. For me, the characters from the Beast Pirates that I remember are Kaido, the All Stars and the Tobiroppo and from those 9, 2 are female (only Ulti and Black Maria). Not to say that those two aren’t awsome, I love both, especially Ulti, but I don’t think that it’s enough. On top of that, the All Stars (which are basically the Beast Pirates version of the Sweet Comanders) are all male, so not even the one third. Then we get onto Blackbeard, from who’s crew we know only the 10 Titanic Captains, where only one (Catarina Devon) is female. That could certainly be better and I will not comment much further, since the 10 Captains themselves show that Blackbeard has a gigant crew, most of who we don’t know, but having a few more females there would be better, since any Blackbeard female shown from now on will most likely be weaker than any of the captains. Next is Whitebeard, whose crew I genuinely hate. I honestly think that Whitebeard is cool and I support the idea of blood not making a family, but any and all females on his crew are nurses. No fighters, let alone a female being one of the 16 Divison Commanders (I checked and Haruta is male. I also heard some people mention Whity Bay, but she’s an ally and a captain of her own crew, not a Whitebeard pirate). So, while there are females, it showes them as damsels in distres rather than foghters. Nothing more to say. Lastly, the worst offender, Shanks. No females. That’s it. There is not a single female character that would be a known member of the Red Haired pirates, not even as a nurse. Grantes, we still don’t know much about Shanks or the Red Haired pirates, but we’ve seen them at Marinefort and I think that if at least one female from the crew was an important fighter, she would be there. So, there could be some, but either not strong or not a fighter at all.
Straw Hats: Let’s be honest, we all love Straw Hats, but they’ve got problems. There are females, but it’s still only two out of then, neither of the two is part of the three strongest (until the time skip Nami was actually seen as one of the weaker members and before Alabasta she didn’t even fight) and even their fighting styles show a problem. This is something I wanted to also point out (before this rant became longer than some of my essays [and I didn’t even research here, just checked to make sure some of the things I wrote were actually true and to check the names]), but another thing I don’t like is how even when female characters are shown, they are not fighters, not GOOD fighters (or in general tend to be weaker than men) or are long distance fighters. Nami and Robin are a great mple of the last. Both of them attack from a distance, which makes sense with their weapon/Devil Fruit, but all the other Straw Hats (excluding Usopp) fight at close or mid distance. That makes the Straw Hats balances, but it doesn’t make sense that neither of them are close combat (at least statistically), especially since Nami DIDN’T FIGHT until Alabasta (and even there her combat with Miss Doublefinger was pretty close range) so her fighting style could have been thought of for a long time. And Robin DOES have some close ranged attacks (shown in Alabasta and Skypiea arcs) but just doesn’t use them (especially post time-skip). And that’s not even talking about Haki. Logicaly speaking, it would make all sense in the world for Robin to have at least Arnament, since it would give her already OP (if used correctly) Devil Fruit a way to more effectively attack other Devil Fruit users and even normal enemies (since Arnament also seems to make attacks stronger, not only allow Devil Fruit users to be hurt) and, unlike basicaly all the other Straw Hats, who didn’t learn Haki during the time-skip, Robin was surrounded by people who knew Haki and could have taught her.
Thank you, for reading my rant. I hope you enjoyed. Additionally, I suck at tagging, so please let me know, if you can think of any.
Broken (Tales From The Heart)
Fandom: One Piece Rating: Gen Warnings: None Characters: Penguin, Law, Shachi
Penguin surveyed the damage and wanted to cry. Law was going to be furious. Not with him, or any of the other members of the crew, he hoped, but that almost made it worse, because without a clear target he didn't know where was safe to escape to. He tentatively rested a hand on the crackling machine in the corner, flinching whenever its flying sparks of electricity landed on his unguarded skin, and hoped vainly that there was some way to fix it.
Why couldn't Mugiwara have woken up like a normal person, regaining consciousness yet no immediate motor functions, giving him time to calm down before he jumped out of the bed. With injuries like his, he really shouldn't have been able to move, let alone create a new exit out of both the infirmary and the Polar Tang itself. The submarine worked perfectly well without a hole in the roof and while carrying equipment for repairs was a must, Penguin wasn't totally confident they had enough to do more than patch up the external damage to make it watertight again. Certainly they didn't have the necessary equipment to repair such extensive damage to their infirmary, because it was in the safest place on the ship. If an external attach reached it, then they'd be sunk anyway.
They'd never expected an internal attack, and now the machinery was paying a heavy price. It was going to cost a fortune to replace it all, and Law was notoriously picky about his equipment. Penguin wasn't even certain they knew of anywhere in the Grand Line that could meet the required standards, let alone affordably. They were going to have to go on some uncharacteristic raids to get the funds, weren't they?
The shouts of his fellow crewmates had died down, and in their place Penguin could hear the sound of repairs beginning – all external, as he'd expected. With a sigh, he left the decimated infirmary to check up on his nakama. Mugiwara had hardly been gentle in his bid for suicidal freedom, and he'd seen more than a few of the crew fall trying to restrain him. Law was presumably busy making sure Mugiwara wasn't undoing the last two weeks' of work, or dealing with Jinbei (or both), as he appeared to still be on the shore, rather than investigating the damage to the Polar Tang himself.
Penguin was not looking forwards to playing the messenger.
Helping his injured crewmates – admittedly most of them were dazed rather than hurt although there were a couple of concussions – was a valid form of procrastination, right? With the infirmary hardly in a state for patients, he corralled his nakama towards the recreation room, convincing them to take a break on the sofas rather than jumping straight into the repairs. Law had probably dealt with anyone that had been in the way of the Mugiwara-tornado on the shore, but Penguin couldn't in good conscious not check. After all, if Mugiwara really had driven himself back to the brink of death, Law was going to have to prioritise him.
Poking his head out of the door, Penguin could see no further casualties. Annoyingly, before he could slip back inside to return to those he'd already treated, he was spotted by an irate Shachi, who was leading the repair effort.
"Hey, what's the damage?"
Penguin winced, wishing he hadn't yelled that from the other end of the ship. There was no way to avoid Law's attention, especially as his captain was still sitting on the same rock, straw hat once again in hand. A torn divider explained why he wasn't with Mugiwara, although didn't explain Jinbei's absence unless he'd braved the wrath of the Kuja to follow.
"Three concussions and another four dazed," he hedged, knowing full well that Shachi had been asking about the Polar Tang and not their nakama.
"And the Tang?" Law pressed, joining in the conversation. Penguin tried to bury his face in the collar of his clothes with little success.
"The infirmary's totally wrecked," he mumbled, pointedly looking at the horizon, away from his nakama. The surrounding temperature seemed to drop, and Penguin hastily vacated the threshold, shuffling across the deck as far away from the door as he could get.
"I didn't quite catch that, Penguin," Law lied. Penguin knew he'd heard just fine. "I could have sworn you said Mugiwara-ya wrecked the infirmary." Hiding would do him no good, so with one last sigh, and a prayer to anything benevolent that might be listening that Law wouldn't go completely crazy, turned to face his captain.
"The ceiling is obliterated," he reported. "All the machines are shattered, as are half the beds and the operating table. The electrics fried, leaving it with no steady power supply."
Straw hat still clenched in his hand, Law sprinted inside. Less than a minute later there was a cry of outrage, followed by the tell-tale blue glow of a Room, presumably as Law attempted to piece back together anything that could be saved. Penguin decided a safer place to be was joining the loud-mouth ginger in leading the external repairs.
When the Room disappeared, and Law emerged from the door, he made a beeline straight for Penguin and Shachi, who both froze. He bore the tell-tale signs of frustration, and while their captain wasn't one for emotional outbursts, that didn't mean they didn't sometimes happen.
"You two," he started, and they stood a little straighter, not in the slightest bit reassured by his tone. "Next time I think it's a good idea to bring a rival pirate into the infirmary, stop me."
Character War: Zoro vs Sanji
Trying to put my own bias aside, and because I’m bored here in quarantine, I was thinking about how I could fairly break down parts of Zoro and Sanji’s characters and compare them. I want to see if I can analytically decide which character is more well realised or well written (just because there’s always that rivalry between both the characters and the fans, you often can’t help but ask yourself these kinds of questions).
EDIT: OH, and SPOILERS if you wish to read this and are not up to date
If the question was “Who’s the more popular character?” though, Zoro wins hands down, no contest.
So, I broke the two characters down into categories:
– Design
– Fighting Style
– Fights/Achievements
– Coolness
– Backstory
– Gag
– Development
Design: Neither Zoro or Sanji have designs that particularly stand out to me, not within their own universe or in anime in general. Seriously, think of some crazy-ass looking characters you've seen in other anime and Zoro and Sanji simply pale in comparison. Heck, they pale in comparison to some of their fellow crewmates (Usopp, Chopper, Franky, Brook etc.) and over time their designs have probably been... how to put this... made more attractive as time goes on? Cause you know, you gotta let the female fans have some eye candy too. And with attractiveness tends to come more “normalness” (not a word but whatever) cause you can't go too crazy with the overall design in case it becomes off-putting. The only thing that really stands out for Zoro and Sanji respectively is hair colour and eyebrows.
– Still if I had to declare one of them the winner... I'd have to say Sanji, just for his more 'unique' eyebrows. We've seen plenty of anime/manga featuring characters with hair colours that match every colour in the rainbow, so it's commonplace for someone to have green or pink hair and no-one really bats an eye. Peculiar eyebrows however are less common, although not rare (as far as I can tell), but for anime fans, it's something I think people still instantly notice more so than a character's hair colour. So.... point to SANJI! But barely, and it’s not much of a win.
Sanji 1/0 Zoro
Fighting Style: Again, neither a sword fighting style or kicking fight style is exactly uncommon, but I am edging towards Sanji's fighting style and I'll try to justify why, even if it is due to my own personal preferences. To me, sword fighting is often the go-to 'bad-ass' method of fighting, cause, come on, SWORDS ARE COOL (can't help but think about the overwhelming popularity of Pokemon Sword vs Pokemon Shield for example). Sword fights/fighters are iconic and that’s the issue at times for me because I feel like I've seen enough sword fights at this point, and not just in anime. So, while they're fun, their overexposure makes me appreciate something different a lot more.
– To me, Sanji's style has a bit more 'kick' to it (oh yes!) and his reasons for using a kicking style are a bit more unique and interesting as well (being that he’s a cook and can’t damage his hands, the tools to his craft). His style is fun to watch, requires a bit more imagination when designing his moves, but it also has a strange kind of elegance to it which I appreciate. Not that sword fighting can't look elegant (Hello, ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’), but I love that people often joke that some shots of Sanji make it look like he could be a dancer which I find amusing, because it’s true. Plus, I admire the fact that he's the only Straw-hat that fights without either a magic power/devil fruit or a literal weapon (though he has now grown accustomed to the raid suit, so…). But, for the majority of the story so far, the dude has just used his legs and that’s it. And is the 3rd (or fourth if you count Jinbei now) most powerful member of the crew, and still impressively strong overall amongst a massive cast of crazy powerful characters. Also, dude can fly. Actually fly. He can fight in the skies, sing “Walking in the Air” and it would not seem completely ridiculous. So, people reading this may not agree, but, point to SANJI!
Sanji 2/0 Zoro
Fights/Achievements: I feel that most fans prefer Zoro's fights as he tends to take on the second strongest villains of each arc (with Luffy obviously taking on the strongest), which is automatic epicness. I know some fans even argue that Zoro would have no problems taking on the strongest villains in Luffy's place anyway, though I would disagree simply due to the fact that if Luffy were weaker/equal in strength to Zoro then why would he even be captain? The guy who's gonna be the Pirate King can hardly be weaker than one of his own crewmates, it ain't right!
– Anyway, Zoro's battles tend to be straight-up badass one-on-one feats of strength, while Sanji's can be a mix of badass and sometimes plain goofy (thinking of Sanji vs Mr. 2 here or Sanji vs Wanze). And I do think Oda makes it clear that Zoro is the more powerful of the two, making his wins a lot more impressive, awe-inspiring, and show how physically far he’ll go in order to succeed (man should really have no blood left in his body). For me personally though, I often found many of Zoro’s fights a bit dull, like his fight with Mr. 1 for e.g. (ha, ironic), and when I watch his big battle with Kaku, while I like Kaku as a character, I had a hard time taking the image of Zoro fighting a sword-wielding Giraffe seriously. Sanji fighting a wolf with a moustache often looks goofy as well, but at least wolves come across as a bit more threatening (unless you have been on a scary Safari tour o__O…).
– Alas, I would give Zoro the point for fights simply because I know how much the fandom appreciates them and the effort he puts in, BUT.... as for achievements... Maybe I'm being sneaky with this, but for me, while Sanji's fights maybe aren't considered as iconic as Zoro's, his actions towards helping the crew solidified Sanji's usefulness to the crew as not only a fighter but a tactician, and without him at a certain point, there wouldn't be any epic Zoro fights to appreciate. Sanji's rescue of the crew in Alabasta was pretty damn awesome, the fact they wouldn't have even reached Alabasta in the first place if Sanji hadn't gotten a hold of the Alabasta eternal log pose is hilarious, his saving of Usopp and Nami in Skypeia, his enabling of the Merry to escape without being blown to smithereens in the Enies Lobby arc, it's all just undeniably awesome. And to me, just as equally iconic and important as Zoro's fights, sooooo... I'm calling it a TIE!
Sanji 3/1 Zoro
Coolness: HAHA! Ok, come on, I love Sanji, but Oda's portrayal of him can get a bit ridiculous at times and sometimes rob him of his dignity, whereas with Zoro, Oda really doesn't humiliate him that much. He's usually always cool and epic and never seems to leave a negative impression in the eyes of fans. So, no question about it, point to ZORO!
Sanji 3/2 Zoro
Backstory: Ok, maybe it's just me, but I don't think many are gonna argue that Sanji has the better backstory? There's just more of it, it's better fleshed out, it establishes his character relationships and motives far better, it's just... better? Zoro's backstory perhaps is still to be further developed, but as it stands...
– Zoro = Wants to become the greatest swordsman because of a promise he made to his dead rival/childhood friend. Nice, but doesn’t feel very original or special. Where did he come from before all that? Where/who is Zoro's family? Why did he want to be a swordsman in the first place? Cause it's cool? It just leaves me feeling annoyed because there’s these gaps and things left unanswered within his story and I can't tell if Oda's even going to give us any answers! But with a possibility that Zoro is from Wano, maybe something is eventually going to be explained? Still, I feel like Oda needs to be careful he doesn't make a repetitive tragic backstory, cause I worry that at some point he's going to run out of ideas on how to make each new backstory more uniquely depressing than the last, to the point where it's gonna be a 'been there, done that' kind of deal. Or maybe he’ll actually reveal that Zoro has a DUN-DUN-DUN living mother. I mean, that’s rarely done in this series, so that would be pretty shocking.
– Sanji = Born as a quadruplet (still so weird to me) to a royal family, kind mother but douche-bag father. Mother dies saving Sanji's humanity because said douche-bag father violated mother and children by tampering with them before birth in order to make his children into sociopathic weapons. Sanji grew up emotionally and physically abused by father and brothers because he had kindness and compassion, and the abuse got so bad that he was even locked in a jail cell with an iron mask on his face because his father was ashamed of his existence. Mother, of course, dies, leaving Sanji with only an older sister to turn to, who could only be nice to him in secret and laugh at him in public. He decided to become a chef during imprisonment due to his mother giving him the only praise he had ever received and he enjoyed making her happy. Finally escapes douche-bag family thanks to decent sister freeing him, but only after promising to never admit he was related to his douche-bag father, further destroying him emotionally. Next, the ship he worked on was destroyed in a tidal wave, killing all his friends at the time, and left him alone on a rock with little food and a pirate who recently kicked the crap out of him. Went months without food only to find out that the pirate he hated had given him all the food, forcing him to cannibalize himself to survive. And all this happened before he was just 10 years old. So, from then on Sanji grew up with a fixed dedication/appreciation for food, but a clearly messed up self-image due to years of abuse and being told he was a failure by his biological father. Not to mention the man who saved his life, while a good man at heart, kinda has a messed up moral compass of his own, and kinda f**ked up Sanji's head in his own way (seriously, Sanji can't bring himself to hit a woman to save his own life cause he can't bear disappointing/disobeying Zeff, the man who actually loved him like a son? Jeez).
– For real, Sanji's story is a doozy, and Zoro's just doesn't compare (at least not at the moment). Sorry, but clear point goes to SANJI!
Sanji 4/2 Zoro
Gag: Possibly debatable again, but I honestly do prefer (and the fandom majority seem to prefer) Zoro's whole getting lost gag to Sanji being a looney tunes pervert (some of the faces Oda draws, I swear!) I don't mind anime perverts so long as they have some substance to their character, but Oda places ‘Pervert Sanji’ in some situations where you're left screaming, “NOW'S NOT THE TIME DAMMIT!” Some moments can be thrown off kilter by the perverseness and/or fanservice to the point where you're just left face-palming. Arguably, the same can be said for Zoro, especially with his wandering off and getting lost in Wano right before Luffy faced off against Kaido (not that Zoro could do much about that anyway if he hadn't gotten lost), but just how easily he gets lost is so ridiculous that it veers right around from being annoying and returns straight back to being hilarious because of how mind-boggling it is. xD So, point to ZZZZZORO!
Sanji 4/3 Zoro
Development: Once again, another debatable one. Too debatable! There's no way around it; some may say Sanji's ‘self-rediscovery’ arc in Whole Cake Island made him the better developed character (or didn’t develop him at all) and some will say that Zoro's “Nothing happened” moment is the pinnacle of character development in One Piece, and to me, too much of it comes down to preference and I find it hard to justify why one is potentially better developed than the other. Especially when there could still be further development for them to come. So.... yeah, another TIE!
Sanji 5/4 Zoro
So, there it is, I killed some great time in quarantine with this(!) Maybe there’s more ‘categories’ I could have added, but with what I came up with, I really did try not to be bias here. I do think it’s important to have a character that can hit ‘all the beats’, deliver in terms of action scenes, comedy and the emotional hard-hitting moments too. I can’t help but appreciate the male characters who are more in touch with their emotions and show vulnerability, which is what I appreciate with Sanji, and why I probably don’t connect with Zoro as much as I’d like to?
Going through all of this however has made me think that I'm actually fairer than I thought I was. No? Yes? Close call anyway.
