Vynter 2024 - Week 2, Hearth
"I'm cold." Tharaêl groans out.
"Put more clothes on." Teliora replies, not even lifting her eyes up from her tome. It's the dead of winter, the windows are frosted over, and yet… she's still in her usual linen shirts, while Tharaêl is halfway to becoming a walking icicle.
"I don't want to put more clothes on. Can't I just put more wood into the hearth?"
"Do I look like I'm made of money? No, I'm not going to buy more wood because you've burnt through all of it. Put a damn sweater on."
Unfortunately… Teliora is somewhat right. Tharaêl can barely hold down his job at the stables, and he doesn't even interact with people there, and Teliora is in between jobs for the Temple - money was on the scarce side.
But Teliora has an axe… somewhere around here, and there are plenty of trees he's allowed to cut outside of the city. So, wheelbarrow and axe in hand, a few scrolls of teleportation stuffed in his pocket, he gets to chopping down trees, all while cursing under his breath. It's freezing, there's snow sloshing in his boots, and he's both cold and hot at the same time.
"Fuck this," He grumbles under his breath. Still, there's a few good logs he's cut, enough for a few days.
"Hey," Teliora says, a faint shimmer of magic still floating around her when she appears in the woods, next to him. "You forgot this,"
Tharaêl mutters out a small 'thanks', taking the wool hat she hands him, tucking his ears underneath, reddened by the cold.
"So…" She starts, when he's nearing the end of what he's set out to do. "You know you're gonna have to wait until this dries out, or you'll burning soggy wood, right?"
What.
He stares at her. He stares at the freshly cut logs, covered in a thin layer of frost. He stares back at her. She stares at the logs, then back at him, before disappearing in a flash of magic, an amused look on her face.
Of course, he snaps. Two hours of strenuous work, all for naught - he grumbles and grunts and yells, kicking the tree stump he's been using to cut his logs on, evidently frustrated and tired and cold.
But Teliora isn't entirely cruel - when he comes back to their shared home, their tiny home, she's made soup, and tells him that she's struck a deal with a supplier to get more logs, dry ones, the next day. He groans again, telling her off and angrily grumbles at her all while accepting the bowl of soup as he pulls a stool up to the hearth, where he's finally warm and full.

Short answer for my main Prophetess: I do the questline after the Living Temple, in between Calia and Jespar's Black Stone quests. I feel like that's a good point for her to have enough of a mental breakdown that she'd participate in bloodsports and agree to a potential suicide mission amid a world-ending event that she's supposed to be trying to prevent.
Long answer with some spoiler-y ramblings:
So I feel like I'm the only one who isn't as attached to Tharaêl as most of the fandom seems to be. Maybe Nico's intent to make him a hateable character actually worked for me, lol. But maybe it's also just my "roleplay brain" because my Prophetess butts heads with him more often than not, and mostly just agrees to ally with him because she hates people who hurt kids and believes the Father has to die more. She empathizes and even agrees with Tharaêl sometimes, but finds his hypocrisy and how he judges others insufferable.
I do plan to do another run for my lycanthrope lady to take him in, so maybe I'll warm up to his character a little more someday... but in general I've never been a big Tharaêl fan and never really felt the emotional impact of his ending like many others have (I'd wonder if I was cold and heartless, but I cry each time during Esme's quest. The Rhalâta's quest is great, but not as emotionally impactful to me for some reason). After what he did to Zar'Ah, that was it for me, and my gut reaction was to just kill him... until my roleplay brain kicked in once again because my Prophetess would never side with a child killer. She had no qualms with killing Qalian, either.
That said, Tharaêl dies in her run, so no fun cozy roommate epilogue shenanigans for her. It ends up becoming one of her deepest regrets. Still, I feel like in her story, Tharaêl's death makes more sense than her trying to talk him down because suicidal ideation is also something she struggles with, and she wouldn't be able to think of some redemption speech for him.
It's just a shame she didn't know Jumper, or she could have done it. Probably.
Rhalata timeline data gathering
not sure if this will work, but hey, why not try Enderal Fans!! For the purposes of science, when do you personally complete Rhalata questline in regards to the main questline? My silly tgm-poisoned ass would always complete all dlc before even becoming the member of the Order, and now i'm curious when do you send your Prophets and Prophetesses to this particular torture?

I was testing a mod I made that restores Tharaêl's purple eye color with both versions of him (because he has separate IDs)... and then some crazy nonsense happened.

8 and 20 for Micah and Tharael?
8. What were their first impressions of each other?
Tharaêl was curious, perhaps a bit desperate to find someone with the right credentials to take on the task of killing the Father. It was part of his routine to watch over the Dust Pit, so wasn’t it just his luck that the odd Sun Child has won out of the four competitors? He originally had the task of antagonizing Rasha into paying the Shadow Tax, but this was looking to have some merit. If this Sun Child with the round face and the big eyes was able to handle the rest of them, then he might have found a good candidate. Hopefully, they were worth the investment. He’ll give them credit where credit is due.
Micah, on the other hand, was not expecting a member of the Rhalâta to compliment them. (Yes, they still remember that, and it is one of their most treasured memories.) Enderal had, in their terms, been a bit of a shitshow and a disappointment, but they had the mercenary who was willing to help with their fever. Outside of that? They felt this had been a terrible idea. That single compliment, somehow, made them feel like this was worth fighting for a second chance.
Without knowing it, both of them felt hopeful by that small instance of fate.
20. What is a promise they have made to each other?
There’s the obvious promise in the beginning (let’s kill the Father, we got this), but the one that had mattered the most to them was the one after the Father achieved Transcendence, where Tharaêl was a breath away from the ledge: redemption.
Part of this promise turned to Micah giving Tharaêl the space he needed for himself, but also giving him the ability to explore outside of Ark, on his own terms and with them supporting him all the way. Micah got the second chance they wanted, so why couldn’t Tharaêl have that too? Of course this had hiccups (Tharaêl learning the hard way Micah wasn’t great with reading maps, Micah having to be as patient as possible and trying to work out being the Prophet alongside that), but this meant more to the two of them than words could ever say.
Technically, there’s a third, but that one is a secret for the time being. :3c
