so a therian is someone who identifies as an animal on any level, spiritual, physical, mental, psychological etc! i'm a psychological therian, and i believe that i am one because of neurodivergency, but there are many reasons why someone's a therian, like a past or parallel life, misplaced soul, imprinting by a childhood animal, it's subjective.

tbh everything about therianthropy is subjective, so i'll talk about my experience.

i was in denial about being a therian for years, i thought that i just found them cool. to add to that, i also don't remember my childhood, like, at all, and most therians seem to do animal-like stuff as kids so i was unsure. then over summer i had a whole identity crisis and then figured out i was a dog! yay!

honestly my experience has two sides. either im really happy about not being human, bark (only at home when im alone, i don't bark at random ppl) and play like a dog, or i lay on my bed curled up and cry about being in the wrong body-that's called species dysphoria. i don't have mental shifts often, but when i do they're normally quite pleasant. i'm just a silly little puppy lol. mental shifts are when someone thinks and behaves more like their theriotype (the animal they are) by the way, just to clear things up. i do have a permament phantom shift of dog ears, and sometimes a tail but that's really rare and only happens when i'm really happy and wagging my phantom tail. a phantom shift is when someone feels parts that aren't physically there like ears, a tail, a snout, fangs etc. think like how amputees sometimes feel like their amputated limb is still there. i had a phantom shift of a snout once and i have a constant phantom shift of vampire fangs (i'm also a vampire otherkin)

a lot of therians wear gear like tails, masks, ears etc. to ease their species dysphoria. i don't really do that, i find that it doesnt really help, but i wear a tail for aesthetic purposes cuz it looks cool lolz, and i made masks just for fun. but gear can be anything, even a flowy wing-like shirt for winged therians!

if you want to learn more please for the love of dog do NOT read the therian wiki. i have beef with it. it claims stuff that isn't true like therianthropy only being spiritual or psychological or that it's strictly involuntary. there are labels like otherlink that mean a chosen identity but these were created a long time after the term 'therian' which at first included chosen identities. also sometimes it's hard to tell if an identity is chosen or not. my brain is fucked up, for example my special interest is sharks and i'm also a shark therian, but i don't know if it's involuntary or just my brain thinking sharks are cool and deciding that i am now one. i do identify as a shark fully and that identity was not consciously chosen by me, so that's weird.

sorry for the really long rant, if you do want to know more i recommend scrolling through the therian tag on tumblr, that's how i learned a bunch of stuff :P

I did a really cool thing recently (u know, Gaul thingz) and I’m currently dressing to flex about it. For example today I was wearing a laurel wreath and a toga picta and a tunica palmata. I was walking through Rome. It was not the Ides of March, which I was very happy about. A lot of plebs stared at me. I put up my middle finger at them.

“Hey Caes’ar!!” shouted a voice. I looked up… it was Marcus Junius Brutus!

Im having it peer-reviewed on saturday night and then I still need to get some thumbs up from some people about certain parts of the fic so when I get an "all clear" i will probably put it here or on my AO3 or both and then I will spectacularly die from shame that something like that came from me.

Hi my name is Ivory Light’ness Rememberance Swan Path and I have midbac long ivory hair (that’s how I got my name) with pink streaks and my eyes are blue like Gornag’s corruption. I am a werewolf but not ugly like a nornwolf but a cute one. I’m also a smart girl and I go to Queensdale Academy in Kryta and I will graduate soon - I’m nineteen. Im a prep and I am also a furry if you didn’t know - I am a werewolf with a cute ivory tail and I like Rytlock Brimstone, but that’s a secret so keep it to yourself you fucking goth trash :) Today I put on a white-ish green shirt with pink and orange flowers with puffed up sleeves at the bottom, white-ish green thigh highs and a pink skirt that is way too short for a decent lady from a good household such as myself, but I was on a mission - a mission to steal hearts. With pink lipstick on, i walked across the courtyard of the academy. I saw that shitty goth logan thaceray stare at me so i seductively flipped my hair at him. You can watch but you can’t touch. Also, logan was known for dating queen jennah, the founder of the academy, so i dont know why he was checking me out. Dirty homewrecker will be smitten by gods one day, for that I pray! I continued walking.

“Hey Ivory!” i heard and looked over my shoulder. I couldnt believe. It was… canach!!!!

“Oh, hello Canoch” i said and in2uired “how are you on this lovely day”

Canach is a hot goth-turned prep. I am so happy for him. Even a sinner like canak can be saved by the six. Yes, he is bald, but i dont mind thay/t. For me he will wear a wig. Some pink sylvari was shaved recently so there will be plenty of leaves for a wig for canach. 

“I’m blessed by the six and my beloved mother,” he smiled at me like a gentleman he was. I blushed.
