The Comfort of You

Thank you for being there when you're busy or unwell, For listening to my rants, my stories to tell. Thank you for taking my feelings to heart, For showing me care right from the start.

Thank you for making me feel safe and secure, For effort and time that makes me feel sure. Thank you for being yourself, nothing more, It helps me feel comfy, lets my own heart soar.

Thank you for smiles on the days I might cry, For laughter that lingers when tears won't dry. Thank you for always just being you, For all that you give and all that you do.

Everything’s a mess My mind’s a blur My heart’s stuck in a cage Slowly starting to burst

Trapped in my place With my demons pulling me back Been trying to escape But there’s no way to attack

Sleepless nights And restless days You showed up Everything started to change

You saw me at my best Been there at my worst Taught me how to be strong Making me feel like I’m your first

I showed you my soul Love how you did too Now we know everything about each other Like how the ocean matches with the sky’s blue

Listening to your favorite song While writing this poem Can’t stop thinking About the things I long

Everything I wish for You’re wishing it too Praying that someday We’ll be able to do

Talking everyday saying We’ll reach to space Floating along with the stars Never getting out of the place

I’d do anything for you To fly you with me to the moon Cause you’re my best friend Hoping it will be more soon

Official end of tour photo⁣⁣⁣(!) exactly 1 month after our last show after this ⁣⁣⁣photo was taken I shared for them⁣⁣⁣ an 8 minute poem ⁣⁣⁣ of thanks & reflection⁣⁣⁣ of their humility & greatness with special moments galore⁣⁣ from my first tour I got plenty more to post⁣⁣⁣ but here's a quick toast⁣⁣⁣: to every hand on this deck⁣⁣⁣ to make a brilliant ship of a show⁣⁣⁣ a wonder of lights, sound creativity, heart, dedication experience, positive impact and lasting connection⁣⁣⁣ an honor dressed in a blessing to have worked with you and witness even a fraction of your total worth through your work & play across 40 cities each and every day Also, important to share: one of the best compliments from venues⁣⁣⁣ we went to⁣⁣⁣ the security would say⁣⁣⁣ "You guys are so nice!⁣⁣⁣ 5 years of working here⁣⁣⁣ and no band I remember ⁣⁣⁣ ever says hello to us!"⁣⁣⁣ and not just me⁣⁣⁣ from Andy, band, & crew⁣⁣⁣ the kindness⁣⁣⁣ the connection created⁣⁣⁣ the stories shared⁣⁣⁣ the listening ⁣⁣⁣ the beauty of community⁣⁣⁣ was incredibly palpable tangible from every hug with utter happiness tucked into every smile And Andy, Thanks for trusting me⁣⁣⁣ on your stage from opening the show to reflecting people's pain with the mirror of music to show them it's really gold in every way ...like gratitude forever ⁣⁣⁣ plus a week⁣⁣⁣... to you, your band⁣⁣⁣, drivers & crew the management team...⁣⁣⁣ all can really shred... brotherrrrr!⁣⁣⁣ 🤣 but sincerely⁣⁣⁣ now... The Gift

I hope when you read my words you know that I struggled over the ends of cigarettes,  filled ashtrays and hummed over two pots of coffee  or one bottle of wine, depending on what day of the week it is.

My fingers fumbled over thesauruses, I picked at my nail polish,  bit my lip.  I cleaned the lenses of my crooked glasses twice.  They are still bent from that time I fell asleep in them.

I hope you know, when I write, it is with you in mind. Every time, you are there.

I think of how it is when I am with you and when I am not.  I think of how each day since I met you, everything means something better than it did before.  Most of all I think of how I came to you.

I came in a package with a bow.  Tanned skin and long sleek hair.  I was fashioned from fine silk and shiny things.  Price tags and a done up face with blinding white teeth. I came with uncertainty that that would be enough.  But it was, it is, it has been.

And then you kissed me, just once. And made everything simple. And the music was low and I opened for you. And layer by layer the things I thought were important peeled away.  I lost my lipstick somewhere under your bed. My hair is in messy half-way curls. I am naked, And every freckle is there. And your eyes tell me it is perfectly perfect  to be exactly who we are. 

The only pressure I feel, is the weight  of your body on mine and it is something  I cannot put into words.  You move me.  You move me.  You move me.

Spending Saturday’s and Sunday’s face washed with just your flannel on.  Finding love is no longer something  that looks put together on the outside. It is the pull of the waves between us, and the synchronized hearts on the inside. And the rise of steam from our coffee cups. And you have built forests in me.

Do you know that darling? 

And after everything you have done, every bone in me that you have loved, being just as I am. All I can do is write of you, immortalized in pages in black and white,  that is the best gift I hope to give you.

And I wish it was more. 

God, I wish it was more.
