Surgery Day Recap :D

Day of Surgery

May 4, 2023 I went into the hospital for a right hip arthroscopy & Osteochondroplasty. Read my last post to get the 4-1-1 on what all that means.

The only surgery I’ve ever gotten were my wisdom teeth so I barely count that lol. I was super nervous that something would go wrong, or I would wake up during the surgery, or that I would be in excruciating pain after the surgery, but none of that happened #thankthelord. All of the hospital staff were super nice and made me feel very comfortable.

I woke up from surgery with some pain and soreness, but it was mainly at the incision site. They gave me oxycodone for that pain, but honestly it didn’t do much. Icing it helped the most. ALSO, these hoes had me sitting up like 30 minutes after I woke up from surgery! I was like forreal? I can sit up?? And they were like yeah!! So I was like OKAY! Lmao

For people worried about getting up and down steps, you’ll be fine. I was SO SCARED about going up and down stairs because the dysplasia in my left hip is actually WORSE than my right hip and I was afraid of hurting my left leg by hopping on it. I need to rely on my left leg during this recovery and I can’t be down bad in both of my legs lol. But getting up and down the stairs was much easier than I thought it would be (with assistance of course).

For anyone reading this who is getting any hip surgery, before leaving the hospital, MAKE SURE THEY GIVE YOU A HIP KIT. When I spoke with the hospital social work team to order items for recovery, they told me I should be receiving a Hip Kit which would include items to help me grab things, lift my leg, and put on clothes without having to overly bend or twist my hips. These items have been a LIFESAVER. When I was being discharged though, everyone was confused about this hip kit, but I was not leaving without it. Thankfully, they were able to get someone from OT to put my kit together real quick. 

Overall though, I felt pretty good after surgery. I was tired from the anesthesia, but happy overall that I wasn’t in much pain. (Probably because there was no actual labral tear which I explain in my last post). My actual joint felt fine, even while sitting up. The most pain I felt were from the incisions. Also, my throat was dry and sore from the breathing tube so I drank tea to help with that. For the rest of the evening, I iced my hip and thigh and relaxed.

Mac Miller

R.I.P I remember a lot of times Mac Miller has helped the kid realize his demons. I’m not a man of judgement. What I say isn’t as important as Gods’ word but I am so infatuated by the Lord that I have no other choice left but to try and understand you. I thank the Lord for what he has made me to be. I am taking this time to express my appreciation for his mercy and grace by reaching out to not only the righteous but also the people who are sinners. Covid, The Aftermath Part 3

I don’t know what they gave Fred in the hospital in that iv, but whatever it was seems to have kicked the illness to the curb. I got a call on Saturday, the 20th to pick Fred up. He was no longer on oxygen. He was hungry when I got him and he looked really good.

We went to Cracker Barrel and ate an early dinner. He ate a cup of soup, a piece of cornbread and two biscuits with gravy. That amount of food was more than I had seen him eat since he had gotten ill. He looked good on the ride hom, too. Later that evening he walked around on the deck and he sure seemed to be doing better.

Today, Sunday the 22nd- I cannot believe this is the same man I dropped off at the hospital on Friday with sugar levels in the upper 300′s, oxygen level in the low 80′s, with pneumonia, and so weak he could hardly walk. 

We drove to Livingston this evening and ate dinner at Joe’s Italian Restaurant and shared a small cheese pizza. He ate 5 of the 8 pieces, had a salad and ate a roll. This is amazing. He drove. I was surprised by that because even now I have a hard time driving with the weakness in my arms and legs. My arms don’t want to hold the wheel and my foot just doesn’t have much strength to stay on the pedal. So- I’ve got to give the hospital props for whatever it was they had in that iv. 

We are in bed now watching a movie and his body is warm. His fingers are not like ice and laying next to me, he seems just like he did before he was sick. 

I also have to give thanks for all the prayers. I know God heard them. There were hundreds of people we know praying for him. That had to be part of it, too. I am now praying for complete healing for the both of us and my son- who now has Covid and has underlying medical conditions. Luckily, we live just two houses down, so if he needs anything- I can be right there. 

Fred is going back to work tomorrow. I really hope it is an easy day for him so he can continue to get his strength back.
