I forgot how absolutely sad and depressing that sounds to people who actually celebrate Thanksgiving. I didn’t want her to feel bad for me I swear I just don’t celebrate this holiday.

yesterday i became the weirdo who does a 5k on thanksgiving (i don't have any family where i live and also the proceeds went to a local food bank) and now i am paying the price by being in pain every time i move my legs

I'm a wasp, the holidays are a thing that we Endure through our repression and trauma etc. Best Thanksgiving I ever had was the one where I had strep, worked a very slow and hysterical night shift with my best friends the night before (...yes, with strep, and a fever) and then spend the holiday in my bed alone, napping, and eating a turkey sandwich that I seamlessed. No one spoke to me, perfect day, no notes.

I married someone who Loves Christmas, which you think would make me less of a grinch but lol no now it's actually way worse because she refuses to miss her very loving and fun holiday traditions to endure my family. And my mother is absurdly passive aggressive about the idea that her children might spend time with their inlaws over the holidays (or that her kids-in-law would want to spend Christmas with their own families). So I alternate, which is a very fair system to everyone who is not me.

It is, I remind you, currently Christmas 2023. And both of them are guilt tripping me about Christmas 2024.
