25. Character you'd like to come back?

LUCY she's so fun and i love her and she's also really hot and i know it's mostly due to scheduling conflicts but i really hope she can come back for an episode or two and we get her interacting with tommy since they're both air support and also ideally with ravi too because in my mind they're besties <3

ugh this is such a hard question cause i love literally every single of one of his looks but i think s5 was his best so far i loved the swoopy hair and the fact that he was constantly going through the horrors probably made him look better

in may day when may says she wants to go with bobby and calls him her dad and bobby is like "you didn't have to lie" and she's like "i didn't, i have two dads" 🥺 also bobby finding and protecting her in that episode

but also big shout out to any bobby/michael moment like from the very first time they meet to their shenanigans like tearing down their fireplace or them catching the guy doing the illegal surgeries. i just love and miss them so much <3

2023 Writing Wrap

Well. Let's see how I did for 2023 in terms of writing.

On a pure numbers look.

This is the first year I've actually started recording my hard number counts. So, I don't really have much of anything to compare aside from that. The last few years have been really bad for me to take anything beyond Nagamas gifts for my count.

Okay Monse, but how does this translate into actual fics you've written and published? Let's check!

On January 8th, at 2.4K words, I published "We're The Lucky Ones," a Julia-centric on her relationship with Julius. For Nagamas 2022.

On February 12th, I published another Julia & Julius-centric fic. "Silent Running" which has 1881 words. Also, a Nagamas gift for @memietroubadour.

I have the multi-chapter "Say So," last updated on April 25th, which is an NSFW body-swap slow-burn romance between Azel & Tailtiu. Mixed with serious explorations of patriarchy, gender, and sexuality.

And the last published fic of the year was "Spanish Bombs," published June 16th. A domestic Julius/Altena fic where Altena deals with the complications that come with a unified Thracia. Author frustrations about imperialism, colonialism, and IDGAF about Yakubians are very obvious in the text.

In terms of published material, 19,723 words were published out of 57,647. Or roughly 34.21%. Fall Semester frankly kicked my ass really, really hard. I didn't stop writing, but it's obvious my classes were so intense and time-consuming that I couldn't afford much time outside of them.

As for work still in progress, I have another Jultena fic "Lamento Boliviano" that will be NSFW and touches on the themes that Spanish Bombs had, but with Altena struggling to conceive a child. That's at 6.4K

Oops. Say So Chapter 3 who knows when.

And I have an "Anti-Quan, no Thracia is really badly written and if you don't see it you're probably racist" manifesto at 6.7 words...and in need of heavy citations. Expect it at 20K minimum.

Some words were used in drabbles or unbaked WIPs. Maybe they'll be fics. I don't know.

idk how even to start this post bc wile im using miles morales as an example his actual comic race differs and this is the fault of people just straight up not understanding how race in regard to us puerto ricans works. and its all thanks to racism colorism and the depiction and representation of latinos in media

to fully understand this and how deeply we are affected we need to go alllll the way back to the beginning

its 1490whatever and cristobal colon has just discovered the americas. and on one particular island, boriken, he discovers a tribe, the tainos <3. we brought him gold and showed him kindness. and to make a long story short he fucked us over immensely. if we didnt bring meet his gold quota it was chopped off hands. he killed us he raped us he did countless atrocities. we were given a new name: puerto rico “rich port”. most americans know what happened to the many indigenous nations on the mainland but not many are taught about us the indigenous islanders. los tainos. we spanned across el caribe: jamaica, cuba, haiti, dominican republic and puerto rico (where im from!)

but dont get it twisted we didnt just roll over and take it. the very first freedom fighter, cacique (chief) hatuey fought with many other tainos to be liberated. unfortunately, he was executed in 1512 and that was that

one year later, in 1513, what imma call ‘phase two’ began. with him this time, colón brought enslaved africans to work the fields alongside tainos. its over for us. we are miserable, malnourished, and theres no escape. and as one does when youre live and work and die together, you love together. and love we did!

everyone who lived in puerto rico loved and loved and every combination possible of taino, african, and spaniard was born. and this has continued for 500 years. a caste was created. and that caste still hurts and affects us to this day. because all it was is colorism and racism. and after seeing the horrid takes about latinos in the spiderverse fandom and beyond…. well here we are now because somebodys gotta say it

but hellbaby? why did you have to add all the history stuff?because the way miles’ family was portrayed could have been awesome representation for many afrolatinos. and they fumbled big time. its not bad representation so dont twist my words. it just could have been better

the representation of latino families in hollywood has always been a bit…. stereotypical. and not just sterotypical but homogenized and caricaturized. anyone remember george lopez (the show)? when someone thinks about latinos NOW, the household names are pedro pascal, gina rodriguez, or oscar isaac. pale people!!! and then as fame works, jenna ortega and all the other pasty latina biddies are who rise to fame and household name status. everyone recognizes them ofc

but what about gina torres, laz alonso, rosie perez, judy reyes, tatyana ali, selenis leyva, amara la negra and many more? how many of these actors can you recognize from name alone? did you know theyre all afrolatino? (and did you know theyre in extemely well known movies and tv?)

how many stories in television do you know in this day and age that have afrolatino characters whose latinidad isnt ignored? i can name one off the top of my head. monse from on my block. a show revolving latinos that was relentlessly made fun of. like i get it its a comedy and its funny and fun. but latinos may as well be synonymous with getting laughed at at this point and we are soooooo fucking tired of it

it all boils down to one simple message. the erasure of black and indigenousness from the latino community. “miles is latino because his mom is latina” “miles is black and latino” its not something you can put into two separate labels. miles is a black latino. he is afrolatino. and that means a lot of things for a lot of different people but until you can understand that black people can also just be latino we will always be stuck in this horrible era of people assuming that afrolatinos cant just literally be black hispanics…

when miles morales was first announced to be the protagonist of spiderverse so many rasict ass latinos were upset. “why does an afrolatino have to be the first representation we get of a latino spiderman?” and many other things like that were said about him. “well the reason hes latino is only because of his mom” and just like that, the knowledge of the existence of black people that have been latino for centuries has gone down the drain. a new (old) misconception was brought back to the surface and popularized. and its gutwrenching and heartbreaking and horrible. black latinos exist and miles morales is afropuertoriqueño

there are so many nuances when it comes to race and latinodad that ppl just dont bother learning more about and how racism and colorism plays into it. and it has had many negative effects to how real life afrolatinos and indijenolatinos are perceived and treated. we arent asking for the impossible we’re just asking for recognition and understanding

7. Your favourite ao3 tag. I really like tags that aren't necessarily tropes but are still standardized in different fandoms! Like "[Bad Parent]'s A+ Parenting" or "Good Babysitter Steve Harrington" in the Stranger Things fandom or "Christopher Diaz Has Two Dads" in the 911 fandom. I like seeing things that fandoms have decided to create tags for because they're common enough in fics, and how they have a distinctly human phrasing

9. Thoughts on cliffhangers. I don't like them at the end of fics. I'm fine with some open-endedness, but there's a way to do that without ending on a full cliffhanger. Because I only have one chaptered work right now, I personally have never written a cliffhanger (yet.... there may be one in unmute) and tbh i don't read many wips so i'm rarely left on cliffhangers for reading, either. i can see the appeal in one that's well done, though!

22. What is it about watching the same two idiots falling in love over and over again? the familiarity! you don't need to make room in your mind for new characters or new conventions, and you know that you're not going into the fic thinking ugh, they should really be with that other person instead :/ because you signed up for this! from a writer's perspective, it's nice to be able to write for fun and still be able to share it. with original works, it's much harder to find a place to post where people will read, and if i want to retain rights and stuff then it's wonky but i don't have the money to self-publish and etc etc etc. basically i feel like it can take a lot of the fun out of writing because there's different standards for original fiction than fan fiction (different genres, different expectations, etc), and if i don't want to write as a career (or don't think i could make it) then fanfiction feels like a nice, fun option to still be able to engage with other people over my writing. besides, there's always more to explore with the same two clowns without having to start from scratch creating new characters and/or situations!
