🍉 (Do you prefer to write short fics or long fics? Multichaptered works or single ones? Why?):

So, funny story: before I got the idea for Not till a hot January, which turned out to be ~25k words, I didn't think I was really capable of writing long things in general, and my writing strengths mostly lay (I just had to google the correct form for that) in short comedy pieces that made my love of Terry Pratchett books incredibly obvious (I'm still proud of those pieces, and might post them here someday!) as well as the occasional very gay short story.

All this to say, short fics are definitely a lot less stressful--I don't need to plan as much, I can write in a way that's closer to the comedic style I used to use more, and I will probably not question my ability to finish. But with long fics, it's really fun to build towards stuff over several chapters, and it's very satisfying to be like wow I wrote all that. So I'm not really sure which one I like better!

🍒 (What's your favorite character dynamic to write?):

I think I've given Spot and Race the most interesting (but wildly different) dynamics across everything I've written, so they've been really fun to write. I also like writing group dynamics, partially because the result is usually entertaining and partially because it's easier to move the conversation forward when there's more than two people.

🍊 (Who's a character you don't write for that often, but keep meaning to write for more?):

Crutchie's role in HIWB actually came in part from me realizing I hadn't incorporated him nearly enough into the other big AU I wrote! But now I think I should write more about Specs, because he's a fun guy but definitely a bit more in the background of HIWB.

🥝 (What's your favorite trope/AO3 tag to write?):

Enemies to lovers and Only One Bed/bedsharing in general have been the most fun, I think. This might be a little outside the scope of the question, but I absolutely love writing anything that has dramatic irony involved.

🍍 (What kind of AUs do you like? Are there any AUs you hate or just generally have beef with?):

I've read so many different types of AUs; I haven't written nearly as many. I tend to like writing things that give me a chance to use some of the random knowledge I've picked up over the years, because it makes the world/activities feel more real (and I'm not great at worldbuilding) and also because a major pet peeve of mine is when people butcher, say, rock climbing in a piece of media (I have a grudge against the movie Princess Diaries for this reason). Nothing I've written really falls into this category, but AUs where the authors ask weird, going-down-the-rabbit-hole questions about a common trope or variety of AU are really fun (I've seen this with soulmate AUs a few times, for example).

As for AUs I hate...well, the main thing that comes to mind is the omegaverse. I'm also not a big fan of student/teacher or anything with a similarly uneven power dynamic, but I haven't encountered that as much.

Alec paces impatiently in the Institute’s meeting chambers. He has Isabelle, Jace, and two security guards present for the arrival of the Seelie representative, standard procedure for meetings that are meant to hold any serious political weight. Honestly, the Nephilim are so generally untrusting of the Seelies that he’s surprised the Consul or Inquisitor themselves aren’t making an appearance just to keep an eye on things.

“Don’t be nervous,” Isabelle says. “Meliorn is no one to be afraid of. They’re harsh, but fair, at least in my experience.”

Alec wants to tell her that his nerves around Meliorn don’t stem from their political standpoints on any of the upcoming Cabinet discussions, but that would mean explaining that the entire reason for this Very Official Meeting is a facade. He dislikes keeping secrets from his siblings but he understands why he has to.

And it’s worth it for the moment Meliorn strides into the room, no hesitation, no questions asked. There’s no sneaking around, no fear of getting caught - they simply walk into the Institute surrounded by two guards on either side as if they owns the place.

“Mr. Lightwood,” Meliorn states with a formal inclination of their head in greeting.

“Meliorn,” Alec returns, ignoring the stutter of his heart and forcing his voice to be even and dry in his own greeting.

“As a sign of trust and good faith, I would like to dismiss my own guards and companions so that we may meet privately,” Alec says, with a dismissive motion towards the other Nephilim.

“Are you sure, Alec?” Jace asks, unable to hide the concern from his tone.

“Positive,” Alec confirms with the smallest of smiles.

Isabelle glances between Alec and Meliorn, eyes narrowed for a second before turning without another word and leaving the room, grabbing Jace by the arm on her way out. The two guards follow reluctantly behind.

“I can agree to that,” Meliorn says, motioning for their own guard to follow the Nephilim from the room. The Seelie Knights look like they want to disagree but follow the orders without hesitation from their superior.

The door closes behind the last of them, leaving Alec completely alone with Meliorn who glances around the corners of the room suspiciously as Alec walks to the door and draws a locking rune followed closely by a silencing rune.

“No cameras in here,” Alec promises. “We’re completely alone.”

“Well done, Alexander,” Meliorn says. “I must say, I didn’t think you had it in you.”

“We haven’t seen each other in weeks,” Alec says, wasting no time in crossing the room to press against Meliorn, chest-to-chest, their faces nearly touching. He isn’t proud of how much the sentence comes out sounding like a whine.

“You continue to surprise me. It doesn’t happen often when you’ve lived as long as I have,” Meliorn says, moving forward just enough to press into the length of Alec’s body, but still keeping their lips from touching Alec’s own in a torturous display of self-control.

It’s a control Alec doesn’t share. He leans in to press his lips forcefully against Meliorns, closing any remaining space between them. The kiss is hungry, desperate, and full of the longing that their weeks apart created in both of them. Hands roam idly up and down backs, fingers tangling in locks of hair, and moans brought on by quick bites are stifled by pressing lips into necks and shoulderblades.

When they pull away both are properly disheveled, and Alec knows they’ve only just begun.

“I think this is going to be a lengthy negotiation,” Alec warns. “I hope your men don’t mind waiting.”

“I’m not sure they’ll have to wait very long if your current eagerness is any sign,” Meliorn teases, a good-natured smirk on their face.

Alec scoffs but smiles as he pushes Meliorn back against the wall. “We’ll see about that,” he says, kissing them before they can say another word.

Age you get mistaken for: Usually my early 20's! People normally seem genuinely confused when they learn i'm 31.

what do I love most about myself: I see you're making me be nice to myself! Well there are a couple ways to answer this. But i think love the fact that I'm a fighter. I've survived a lot through my life and even though it's been hard i'm still here and i think that counts for something.

My idea of a perfect date: (I'm gonna answer this like first date i think) I think something more mellow. It's fall and just chilly enough for sweaters and maybe cute coats, we go to a nice small cafe and have warm drinks and get to talk about whatever pulls us along. Maybe we walk around holding hands and check out some fun shops after if it's a nice area and we lose track of time because we're just so enamored with talking to eachother.

what words make me feel the best about myself: Being told i've done well or that i'm enough. Feels a little sad to admit but i haven't been told those things a whole lot.

A random fact about anything: I'll stick to one about myself since that easier for me on the spot. But the town i half lived in until I was 11 is considered a ghost town now! Most people in my local area don't even know about it anymore. (I say half lived in because i went back and forth between my parents)

8. Have you ever met anyone outside of RP? I have! There's a handful of people that I've met up with IRL from tumblr before! I live in NYC if anyone wants to meet up with me :3 I promise I'm friendly.

12. What is your first language? Chinese - Cantonese specifically or rather, should I say Taishanese which is a regional dialect that is sort of a branch of Cantonese lol. I speak 3 dialects of Chinese total.

13. How many languages do you speak? I speak 3 dialects of Chinese and English fluently. Japanese I can get by with basic conversation. English has now become my most preferred language and the language I'm most comfortable conversing in. Honestly, sometimes they all evade me haha.

17. What is your favorite food? Noodles. No doubt about it. I love it in every form. I always get asked if I could to choose only one food to eat for the rest of my life, what would it be? And it would be noodles. SO many options. SO many varieties. You can have it cold, hot, room temp, spicy, non spicy, savory, sweet - the list is endless!

Probably the excessive gossping as well as his constant complaining - he'll bitch about literally everything and it can kill the vibe sometimes however his complaining isn't usually out of malice but is more out of being spoiled as a kid :/

Also I imagine him being very much nocturnal and walking very quietly (which can be scary) but then when he gets to the kitchen is just super loud with the clinking and the clanking.

Vedra has chronic pain and it affects her wrists the most which is why she often isn't seen playing any instruments!

Miloš also has chronic pain which affects his back and it's from an injury! This is why he wears that little corset thing (also for slut reasons as well but those are p obvious!)

It's pretty noticable even though he fully tries to act aloof and super chill about it - but he will like make up excuses to be with them and they can often catch his blue as fuck eyes just staring at them like 🧿w🧿

When in love it's more of a compainonship to him - in less intimate settings you would be hard pressed to see him and this person even have anything going on beside loving little glances he shoots them or little touches. Unless he's drunk in which case he gets a bit more bold and touchy!

mahonia ⇢ what place, thing, activity inspires you most and how do you express yourself when it does?

I've never outgrown the age old "looking out the window and listening to music" inspiration. Especially when traveling by air. I do a lot of flying, and something about airports and planes just hits me. A lot of my personal, non fandom writing comes to me when I'm looking out at the world below, stretching for endless miles, or covered in the most magnanimous cloud sculptures. Usually, if inspiration strikes, I'm scrambling to the notes app on my phone to write it all down before it escapes me.

There have been things I've watched or read that I, more by chance, haven't ever seen or read again, but I seldom do so on purpose. I think the only two things I can think of are a handful of history books that I read in uni that were deeply important but also terribly sad (I don't ever want to read them again, but I keep them because they are important and need to be remembered) and the movie Gladiator, not because it was bad, but because I bawled my eyes out while watching it and I don't often reach for something that illicits that strong of a reaction from me.

I have some ideas for longer, standalone stories on the back burner, but I haven't worked on them seriously for a long time. Doesn't seem like the right season for it. But yeah I'd love to write a book sometime.

I'm looking for people I can vibe with. If someone's close to my age range & writes scifi/fantasy stuff, that starts to look promising! I'm also on the lookout for people who write in the Dune universe. I write about Weird People, so I'm reassured by any hints I see that my characters will probably be allowed on the furniture if me and someone else write a thread. I also tend to gravitate towards dark or heavy themes, so I also want to make sure I'm not knocking over all the furniture for someone else.

12. what roleplay trends do you remember from the year you started tumblr rp? how did you feel about those trends?

I dunno! I feel like it was busier and also more chill, but I'm not sure if that's accurate.

13. what themes/motifs do you hope other people notice most about your character?

Hmm, I really hope that people are willing to let lots of things be true at the same time! Like, Piter is evil and rich, but he's also critical of the Empire & hateful towards it as one of its many victims. He's a comedic character who's also feral and terrible, but he also has the same inherent dignity that all people do & it's tragedy that he lives this way. He's very smart and dangerous and capable, but plans completely blow up in his face too. You can find all of that in the novel. The character just completely stops working if you try and force one side of things to overpower or cancel out the other.

If I had to pick one big thing I wanted people to notice, maybe it's that the Mentat role in Dune seems to be written as a cool & prestigious smart guy thing (or at very least a mundane and wallpapery aspect of scifi worldbuilding), but in reality it seems more to me like a dystopian way of commodifying neurodivergence for capitalism feudalism. I make up that there's a saying whispered among Mentats, that Mentat stands for Managing Eminent Neurotypicals' Tasks, Albeit Thanklessly.

About ten and a half years ago. I think Ed's blog turned 10 last April. I remember seeing a Roy Mustang rp blog come across my dash, and Ed immediately wanted to interact with him. So I made Ed's blog and the rest is history.

10﹕ is  there  a  piece  of  your  character’s  canon  that  you  refuse  to  accept ?

I have a hard time believing Ed gave up with alchemy without it having any kind of real emotional impact on him given how gifted he was at it and how much it meant to him, and I feel like canon really did a disservice to his character by playing it off as if it wasn't a big deal. That's one of the reasons why I rp Ed without his alchemy. To explore what kind of emotional impact it ended up having on him.
