Alcoholic beverages brewed by different races.
Elven wine is light and airy, brewed from sap and nectar and honey and berries and other fine forest ingredients, soft and subtle to the taste, they're not heavy drinkers but see it as elegant and high-class and fancy.
Dwarven wine is brewed from underground roots and tubers. Deep and rich, like more potent root beer. They prefer bolder flavors and occasionally bring in herbs and spices from above ground to experiment with different mixes.
Goblin wine is definitely an acquired taste for non-goblins. Their cuisine prominently features fermented food and so does their brewery. To the unfamiliar it might taste spoiled or rotten, but to goblin standards it's the finest stuff. Sours and bitters are the strongest hints in their brews, not exactly something most humans would find appealing.
Orc wine is extremely powerful and potent. They even have to come with warning labels to be marketed to other races. To orcs, even fine dining is seen as a glorious challenge, and some even put burning hot spices mixed with their drinks as a further test of will and strength.
Centaurs, fauns and satyrs, being part ruminant, typically stick to the usual grain-based beers. But like how many grazing animals have highly efficient livers that can process alcohol quickly, they can casually down large quantities of the stuff without getting intoxicated or having any ill effects.
Merfolk don't exactly drink, so the next best thing are very mildly toxic seafood to have a similar effect, something along the lines of dolphins tripping on pufferfish. They strictly control the use of these, however, as a misuse can be dangerous, and have a code against making landfolk try it as they don't have natural resistances like the merfolk do.
Oof I love all of this! I didn't know that about grazing animals having efficient livers... interesting fact. Now I'm picturing minos, centaurs, satyrs, and fauns etc. being real heavyweights.
(I would posit though that elven alcohol can also be breathtakingly strong (think fruity schnapps) too).

You meet a Hair Witch when you're out grocery shopping. She asked what brand of yogurt to buy, and you gave a very good recommendation. She now wants to sell you One Hair Wish Fulfillment ticket for the cheap, cheap price of forgetting the first time you flicked someone off. (Which is an interesting story, you think, but irrelevant for now) You agree to the bargain. The Hair Witch warns you that it's a permanent change. That some people decide to go full rainbow hair and then despair that they'll never go gray. Or that they have to spend a fortune to dye it black.
What do you use your One Hair Wish Fulfillment ticket for?
Oh damn what a great question ok my first thought is that I would love to know how to braid my hair/do fancy up-dos and stuff. I keep trying to learn and actually got a few really good and easy braids from a few people on here but to just know and be able to do a wide range of hair styles? I would love that, but that sounds more like knowledge than a One Hair Wish
so my second though is I used to have strawberry blonde hair and I miss it. Would love to have that again (but 🤔 even as an old lady? 🤔 perhaps I think I could rock that)
#asks#thank you so much for sending this#and your others as well it’s really really sweet and I’m very grateful for all silly lil distractions rn

for the wizblr ask meme: your wizard's relationship(s) with morganthe, dyvim, and their school's ravenwood professor! /from dyvimwhitehart :3
Malorn & Dworgyn
Very positive. They came back to Wizard City after Krokotopia and was immediately fuming upon seeing Malorn still teaching younger students. Y'know, after the Death School had been found again. By them.
Years later, after Nico's graduated, Malorn looks at them and sees the bright-eyed child they used to be. He remembers answering their never-ending questions on how the summons worked. How fascinated they were at the idea that the creatures didn't exist outside of when they were cast, and how they promised their Dark Sprite that they'd summon her even outside of battle so she could ee the world. How that promise was kept, as Nico could often be seen with the Dark Fairy on their shoulder.
Dworgyn, even with nothing left to teach them, still sees them often. They visit to make sure that Ambrose has stopped sending new students to Malorn. Not once interrupting the class until Dworgyn calls them to the front to demonstrate the lesson. He does this to give them a brief break from... everything. They can't find it in them to say no. He always brings them a snack when he catches them in Mortis' branches.
And, well... Malistaire kind of counts, right? They never really knew him, outside of what they'd heard from everybody else. He was great, he was terrible, he was evil, insane, amazing- Not once had they ever met him outside of conversations they weren't a part of.
But they knew his story. And god- what they'd have given to have a proper conversation about grief with the poor man. But it never happened, because he was hell-bent on his goal. And they killed him. Still only a pre-teen, they killed the teacher their peers still somewhat idolized. They stopped feeling, after that. Decided it'd be easier to do everyone's dirty work if they weren't emotionally invested.
But then Morganthe used him on Xibalba.
Morganthe
In the beginning, it wasn't personal. They were going through the motions. Another day another villain, right? Fuck- and to think they were actually enjoying learning Sun and Star spells.
They were just... tired. Going through the motions. Save Celestia, save Zafaria, save Avalon, save-
Azteca.
It wasn't personal. Until Xibalba. She made a mockery of the man who went insane out of grief. Either that, or she summoned his soul from the afterlife and is denying him his final rest. The man they put to rest. If not a mockery of him, it's a mockery of Necromancy.
When they killed her, they didn't cry. They didn't fall apart at the seams and have a panic attack over yet another death by their hands. They asked Grandmother Raven - the goddess in their head, who they've known to be the Raven for a while, now - to show them. To let them watch as she was torn apart by her butchered song. To be naught but energy.
And they leave.
Dyvim Whitehart
The first person in a while that Nico felt he could actually trust. The first to ever fight alongside them with some amount of skill. The first to not just say "thanks" and move on. The first to actually ask them questions and get to know them as a person.
Their first actual friend in... a long while. Someone who actually took the time to learn the ASL alphabet from them, and was patient enough for them to fingerspell out whole sentences. The one to suggest shorter signs for certain words they used often. He was the first person they gave a Sign Name to. (they made sure to incorporate their sign for Shield into it)
Then they watched him die. They shouted, loudly, and it was the first time anyone nearby had even heard their voice. The first time they'd heard their voice, after so long. It came out wheezy and cracked and high and - god they couldn't even laugh without feeling immeasurable pain, let alone mourn. The coughing fit afterwards was such a mess, they were shocked to see there was no blood. They honestly wished there was.
Maybe then Ambrose or anyone would step in.
But why would he? Why would those bastards even think to let them mourn their first real friend when Morganthe was on the loose.
So they did their best to just... forget about it. To distract themself with more Quests and more busywork. To find the mindset they had before ever even meeting him.
And when he comes back they sob - as much as it hurts them to, they do - and borderline tackle him. And they're a teary-eyed, coughing-sobbing, emotional mess as everything they'd suppressed comes flooding to the surface. None of it comes out anything even vaguely word-like but they're scolding him and mourning him and loving him (platonically) all in the same sentence
And wow showing emotions after repressing them for nearly three years was... well... painful. (I think arc two is way longer than arc 1, in universe. Arc 1 would be maybe 1.5 years? so they're around 16-17 now) But Dyvim helped them through it all. Through every emotion they'd felt and now struggled to even name. Through making their way to Morganthe and how they felt about feeling nothing about it. Through everything.
They visit Khrysalis often, throughout their next adventures. Whenever there's no sense of urgency. Just to talk to the one person who actually listens.
#HAHA OW THIS HURT#Thank you so much for sending this#I really enjoyed writing all this out#every new ask gives me new ideas for Nico#wizard101#nico lore#malorn ashthorn#dworgyn#malistaire drake#morganthe#dyvim whitehart#ask game

@disneybucks sent: Girl, you look so cute in 3-D! I love the hair. Looks amazing on you. You got any slots for mentors left? Not that I'm offering-- I'm, haha, gee, a real piece of work-- but I think my step-daughter who doesn't know she's my step-daughter yet would love to help you with hero stuff. She has claws and anger issues. We're working on them, though. | Unprompted Asks - Forever Accepting !
"Woah!" The sudden voice came out of nowhere (at least to her), startling her. Quickly turning around, fists clenched - but relaxed when she saw the...that was quite an interesting suit.
She looked at him up and down until a sheepish smile would be seen. "Oh, uhm. Thanks." She rarely received any compliments, but would always appreciate when the compliment would be on her hair color. Secretly, she hated the color -- but sometimes when people took notice, it made her appreciate her hair a bit more.
"A mentor? Uhm...sure, I guess. I -- well, never really had much thought of having one.." She mumbled, but the mention of this so called 'step-daughter' caused her to raise a brow, curious. "Is she aware that you're advertising her to other heroines?"

@wexarethewalkingxdead asked: 12﹕ sender invites receiver to dance . (from Carol to Jamie)
Jamie sat on the half crumbled retaining wall with his back to the door. The contradicting coolness and warmth of the setting sun dug its heels in deep to the soft fleshy pain of nostalgia and regret. Everything always faded away; there was always a messenger of loss waiting for him at every avenue, intersection, and crossroads. Why wasn’t he any good at this? Why couldn’t he wrench out whatever stubborn- weak minded and cowardly heart his father had beaten into him? Why did he always mess up and end up hurting the people he wanted to care about— the ones he did care about? He didn't hear the metal creak of the doors hinges or her feet padding silently across the gravel.
The ache of his sore skin didn’t allow Jamie the slightest kindness of forgetting the whisperers. Rather it was a constant reminder of how he’d broken Carol’s rule and went back for something easily replaced; he put her in danger; risked her life for his stupid pride. He dropped his chin to his chest and dragged his bandaged hand over his eyes- trying to get the angry tears to dry on their own; but when the sudden warmth of Carol resting a hand on his shoulder registered it startled Jamie enough that he nearly toppled backwards off the short wall.
He didn't expect her soft fingers to grasp his face and turn his head so he'd look at her, unable to hide teary eyes or his splotchy, red cheeks. "I'm sor--"
Her lips pressed in a firm line and her steady eyes that stared right past his continual self loathing seemed to crack through his dam of repression. His lips trembled slightly and his eyes welled up with tears so heavy they drowned his lashes flat against his skin. "Dance with me." her voice was gentle, understanding and kind in a moment when he was too willing to refuse gentleness annd deny himself any semblance of kindness. "Come on, you and me, the sunset and this... busted up cd player, whatd'ya say?" she used her thumb to brush a tear from his cheek then took his hand in hers and tugged him down from the wall into the dirt and gravel alongside her. She fiddled with the buttons for a while, trying to get the music to work.
"I've... I don't really know how to dance." Jamie's voice cracked softly, but Carol didn't seem to mind, she just focused on placing one of his hands at her hip like necessary, further instructing him to move it so that it was more so against her back, the other still holding onto his.
"There, now you just move with me, come on." she smiled at him, reaching out a few times to tilt his chin back up when he'd begin to look down and watch their shoes. "Just look at me, Jamie, just keep your eyes on mine and dance with me." her tone was warm, encouraging in a way Jamie wasn't used to and when she smiled at him again-- he smiled back; feeling the grief peel itself off like a winter coat ready to be returned to the wardrobe.

🤲✨
🤲 Would you please share a snippet of a wip?
“You said on the way here that this place is old—they’re probably just nostalgic and don’t mean anything by it.”
Caroline scoffed, “At least they have a past they can be nostalgic about.”
✨ Give you and your writing a compliment. Go on now. You know you deserve it. 😉
Ngl I’m an awesome person and I think my writing absolutely slaps. I don’t even know where to start honestly when it comes to complimenting myself… I love that I just took a cool idea and spun it into what is now Schrödinger’s Cave, which has proven to be one helluva ride so far… I’m good at putting my favorite characters through it, and I’m very proud of myself for not giving up writing no matter what lemons life tries to give me!
(Ask a question from the list here!)

54 with pretty much anyone you like and Morgana romantic or not
okay. so. here's the thing. i struggled with this one a little bit, wasn't quite sure where i wanted to go with it and somehow landed on inner turmoil rather than conflict/exchange? there's still a sort of conversation happening, but i guess it's more my interpretation of morgana's thoughts, feelings. sorry if it's not what you wanted, though i still hope you'll like it,
54. “I don’t hate you. I could never hate you. That’s the problem.” (merlin and morgana/no explicit romance)
send me prompts!
The two of them had gone back and forth for a while, never quite mentioning anything out loud, though it was clear that Merlin knew what was becoming of her, as much as Morgana knew - at least partly - what was becoming of him. It was bound to come to a breaking point, so it wasn't really a surprise when Merlin followed her as she snuck through the castle, as she left, as she headed for the woods. Once they were far enough Morgana stopped, waiting only a moment before speaking: "What do you want, Merlin?" she kept her tone steady, quiet.
Merlin approached slowly, though she could not call it hesitation - caution, perhaps. "Just wanted to make sure you don't do anything stupid." She closed her eyes, something of a storm behind her eyelids with its dark clouds, furious thunder, and waves crashing against the shore. Morgana was never quite sure what to hope for - that her anger would take over completely, making her blind to those she could never deem evil on her own accord, or that the blood-red sharpness in her head would let up just a bit, allowing her the reminder of love, of what she once thought was most important, permitting her to seek out those dear to her again, hoping to make them understand. The thoughts of it never seemed to last long enough to reach a conclusion, however. Something in her would build until there was almost a tangible voice, awful close to her own, telling her that she should not be hoping for utter misery or senseless weakness. There was no use dwelling on it, and yet: "I don't expect you to understand, but I am asking you not to stand in my way," she said, careful not to let it sound like a plead. "Morgana-," "No. No, I don't want to hear it. I cannot let this continue, Merlin, I can't, why won't you see that?" she stepped closer to him, skin tingling. "And you think this is the way to do it? Do you honestly think fighting fire with fire will make things better? Like your hate isn't going to burn the same as-," Merlin stopped himself, though it was clear what he was insinuating, Morgana's eyes growing wider. It wasn't anything she hadn't considered before - her anger, the way it reminded her of flames, bright and hot and quick to spread once they started. As much as Morgana understood why it had to be this way, why her anger was so important, the idea of comparing it to fire made her sick - so she tried to think of it as water instead - a flood, a wave, drowning, pulling. And yet. "It is not the same," she snarled. There was something almost sad about the way Merlin looked at her. "Yeah? Then why do you carry such hatred for people you used to love? People who have not had a hand in the things Uther has done." Morgana could only stare back at him. "I don’t hate you. I could never hate you. That’s the problem.” Merlin did not seem to have a response to that. She wished she could ask him if he knew what she meant. If he could understand the two sides, if he could honestly tell her which one was better. Merlin was always someone who knew more than was assumed of him, she had come to learn that. Maybe if the situation had been different. Maybe if she could bear to be honest for a little while longer, she could ask - is it better to live with the hurt or to not feel anything at all?
#thank you so much for sending this#definitely was a bit of a challenge but i'm very happy i got to explore it so!!!!! really truly appreciate it#kisses#q's#merlin and morgana#ask game#prompts
