Part 1.
Lemme cook....
Y'all I'm thinking of.... Royal army leader Toji whose life long goal was... You. Your kingdom.
He wanted it all. Ever since he met you when you first turned 18, he was infatuated. You were graceful, kind, beautiful, soft, generous....fuck.
But life wasn't fair. He was the head of the royal army, not some ditzy prince who'd meet you at a ball and fill your little head with compliments and promises of affection...only to take control over your kingdom as a husband should do.
And was the kingdoms only heir, that was what would happen. He even heard you crying to your lady's maid about it one night while he was heading to your father's study.
Poor little thing.
Toji wanted you. No...that was an understatement. He needed you. He needed you so bad It was painful. He'd treat you better than any of those annoying Princes. He would worship any breath you took....
But like he knew....life wasn't fair.
Little did Toji know....you had somewhat of a crush on him too.
On the day you turned 18 and had the most boring birthday party, most of it was spent sitting down on the third throne your parents had created for you. Or...paid for it to be created. They hated getting their hands dirty.
Comfortable but not too much. Pure gold they said. It was becoming boring. But you couldn't complain. You were blessed to be born as the princess. The only princess of your kingdom.
So, you sat straight, chin up with a soft smile as thousands of villagers and merchants came through, giving you different gifts, gold, jewellery... etcetera.
You wanted to use the excuse of needing the bathroom but just then, the trumpets sounded and in came the royal guards. Your eyes lightly widened when you saw him.
First lieutenant, Fushiguro Toji.
He was tall as shit and handsome as hell. 6ft and 2 inches of pure perfection....those forest green eyes, that scar that slashed against his lips...his muscular physique. He was more of a man then those princes your parents have been trying so hard to introduce you to.
He dropped to his knee to bow deeply to you, his men doing the same.
"it is my pleasure to finally meet you, your Highness." Toji greeted. "May I?"
You nodded slightly, stretching your hand out. Toji smirked in a way that had your heart skipping unhealthy beats as he moved closer, taking your gloved hand in his before pressing a gentle, almost tender kiss against your hand.
Your father noticed whatever was going on between you and cleared his throat, prompting Toji to gently let your hand down as if you were made of glass.
He gave one last bow before leaving .
Now that was a man you'd be fine with marrying....
.
That night, Toji was pulled aside by none other than the king himself.
"Lieutenant Fushiguro....I'd be grateful if you didn't openly ogle my daughter." Your father told him in a firm but calm way.
"ogle?" Toji raised a brow.
"Yes. Ogle. Besides I'll need your assistance. The Duke from the northern regions will be here this Sunday morning to meet my daughter. You'll guard them." Her father ordered.
Toji kept quiet. He knew what your dad was doing.
It was the royal and rich way of telling him to "mind his place."
But Toji stayed steely gazed and nodded.
"of course, your Highness." He spoke flatly.
Your father gave him one last lingering glance before walking off.
He sighed deeply and glanced at the way your father disappeared.
Sure, your father said he shouldn't ogle you...but he never said he couldn't talk to you. Plus, he'd be in the palace for a while...
What better than to acquaint himself?

THAT night marked the very beginning of the turn of your fate, though you didn’t know it yet— nightmares would soon manifest themselves before your very eyes. As for now, you were feeding into the false happiness that the universe was currently surrounding you with, making you believe that everything was going well in the best ways possible.
You appreciated some of the things Enji did but right now you were a little… unsure. Ever since you had hit the seventh-month mark of pregnancy with your first child he’s started breathing down your neck more and more, telling you not to move around as much. To stay in your shared bedroom, to let the maids take care of you so that his daughter wouldn’t be roughhoused inside of your swelling stomach. For some reason, you found yourself too tired to argue and seemed to enjoy staying sentient and without responsibility for quite some time until you got bored. You still weren’t able to leave too far from your room though, every time you tried to take a little stroll down the hallway Enji would come speeding down the opposite end, scold you, and send you back to your shared bedroom. It was almost like he could sense it when you left the bedroom. It was mildly creepy. Frankly, being treated like a child was really starting to irk you, sponsored by MILF hormones.
Today, however, he was out in the town for business, leaving you to do as you pleased which lead you to be a little more adventurous, as well as mischievous, than usual. You had shuffled your way to the kitchen, a hand under your belly to help ease some of the weight off of your spine, and went inside, greeted by a few familiar faces.
“Your majesty… The king won’t be pleased if he hears that you’ve wandered outside of the chambers,” Victor, one of the head servants says while raising an eyebrow at you. You offer him a sheepish grin and then gently press your hands together, “I know I know, which is why this will be our little secret! I want to go out today!! It’s been so long since I’ve been in the garden, and I haven’t had much time to spend with Dabi outside of my bedroom so I figured a little picnic would be nice.” Victor grunted and rubbed his temples like he was dealing with a dilemma before he finally gave in, sighing and moving aside, telling others to move as well to let you do as you please. You were the Queen after all, though you told them not to treat you any differently than they treat each other. You’ve become especially friendly with the majority of the staff, so friendly indeed that they don’t hesitate to scold you most times when you do something ridiculous or weird, behavior that’s usually induced by the hormonal imbalance going on in your body.
You quickly thank everyone and start to make up some picnic foods such as finger sandwiches, sliced fruit and cheese, some cut bread, and a few other things, carefully tucking them away in a basket that one of the servants offered to you. “Thank you, everyone! Ah, before I forget,” you sneakily grin and then reach into your dress pocket, pulling out a pouch of gold pieces, handing out a generous but equal amount to all of them, “Consider this a bribe.~” You curtsy innocently and then speedily leave the kitchen with the basket in hand, well as fast as you could with the extra weight on your front. Now it was time to find little Dabi, he was more than likely hanging out with Keigo.
Tumblr media
Okay, perhaps walking around the spacious castle grounds with a basket of food, a blanket, and a bulging belly filled with life wasn’t exactly the smartest thing to do. In fact, you found yourself having to pause every couple of minutes to catch your breath and hold your belly up. According to the castle’s doctor, you were pregnant with only one baby, yet it felt almost like you were carrying the entire next generation, as dramatic as that may sound. Maybe Enji was right about making you stay in your shared bedroom… No! You would not be giving up so easily, and who knows when the next time you’ll be able to go outside again would be anytime soon, considering how protective your husband had become over you and your unborn child.
With hard work, determination, and the occasional break, you’d made it outside and started heading towards the servant’s quarters, only to see Dabi and Keigo currently running around and attempting to capture frogs before releasing them again. You found it adorable and endearing, liking to see the two children do what children are supposed to be doing— playing and enjoying life with a smile on their faces. And so, with a last-minute thought and not wishing to disturb their time of making memories together, you quietly waddled your way over to a tree on the side of the servant’s quarters building and set the basket down to spread out the blanket before slowiy sitting on top of it with a content sigh. Taking the basket from the grassy ground beside you, you placed it down onto the center of the blanket and exhaled, relishing in the fresh air. The cool breeze raked its metaphorical fingers over your scalp, the smell of flowers nearby filled your nostrils, the sounds of giggling from the nearby children and the chattering of songbirds all clouded your senses. Fortunately, it was much more relaxing than overwhelming or overstimulating, a sense of peace and serendipity holding all of the pieces together.
It was utterly serene. You soon felt yourself slowly tilting your head back and peering up at the sky, mesmerized by the fluffy-looking clouds and the ocean-blue sky. Really, when was the last time you were able to go outside on your own? You couldn’t remember. Enji had made sure not to have you always sitting on your ass 25/8, but even then he was holding onto your hand and leading you with a hand on the small of your back through the courtyard placed in the middle of the castle. He was smothering you, but you knew he meant well, that’s as far as you could tell at least.
As you sat there, enjoying the nature that surrounded you, your sense of time seemed to diminish itself from your mind— probably for the better, seeing how at peace you seemed to be at the moment. And, oh! It seemed the baby liked the outside as well when you felt a sudden kick within your belly. Pressing a hand onto your stomach where the kick had landed, you chuckled in amusement, gently rubbing your hand over it through the fabric of your dress. “You like the outside too, I take it?” You quietly questioned, knowing that you wouldn’t receive an actual answer, not that that mattered to you.
“Mama?”
You nearly jumped out of your skin at the sound of the voice that had come out of nowhere, somewhere nearby. Your eyes wandered over to the source and you sighed, realizing that it was just Dabi who had come over after hearing your voice. Immediately, your gaze softened and you smiled at him, beckoning for him to come over to you with the use of your hand. “Dabi, my little flame, c’mere.” You cooed, to which the little boy had come over to you and blushed faintly, having gotten used to the cutesy pet name. And as a ritual of sorts, he leaned over a little to your seated position and you kissed his forehead. When he pulled away, you realized that Keigo wasn’t that far behind him and immediately waved at you. “Hello, your majesty! Haven’t seen you in a while! Oh!! May I touch your belly?”
Dabi, being the protective older brother that he was starting to develop into, huffed at his friend and waved his hand around dismissively at him. “No no no, you can’t. You might imprint on the baby and they won’t know that I’m e brother!!” Keigo gasped at that, seeming to be convinced by Dabi’s worries. You giggle at the two of them and shake your head. “Pffft. That won’t happen, Dabi. Only certain species imprint on their babies.” You explain and then pat the area on the blanket beside you. “How about you two come and sit with me? I made some lunch for us to eat. Of course, you can join Keigo, and I don’t mind if you touch my belly, just be gentle.” That seemed to make the blond’s eyes sparkle as he rushed over to sit beside you and began to rub your belly, Dabi followed suit, sitting on the other side of you. As happy as he was to see you out here and also quite happy at the prospect of having a picnic together, he had his own underlying fears, particularly having to deal with the direct wrath of his father.
“Mama…? Did Father say it was alright for us to have a picnic outside…?” He asked softly, looking at you with his brows scrunched together in the center of his forehead, his lips slightly poked forward into a pout. You laughed nervously at that, unsure of what to say to your adopted son. Finally, after some thinking, you realized that you were still a grown-ass woman, queen or not, married or unmarried, you weren’t going to let Enji boss you around even when he wasn’t around. You sighed and shook your head. “Well, no, but it’ll be okay. I wanted to have a picnic with my little flame and so, here I am!” You exclaimed rather excitedly, with a childish edge to your tone. “Don’t you want to see what I made for us to eat?” An array of emotions crossed over the little boy’s face, he wasn’t sure of how to feel, especially not when it came to disobeying his father in any way. However, when he looked at you, he felt nothing but trust, love, and safety, and so, he gave in, giving his own small smile before quickly nodding his head and watching as you started to show off your culinary skills. Despite being royalty, you always found time to learn basic skills such as, feeding yourself, so making sandwiches and cutting things up like fruits and such was pretty much a cake walk, though you did have times when you were a bit clumsy. Fortunately, this wasn’t one of those times.
While you’d offered Dabi and Keigo first dibs on what you’d made, you picked up a whole apple you’d brought, beginning to peel and cut it up for the two of them while simultaneously engaging in a conversation about their frog catching. And just as you’d thought, this was exactly what you needed after being stuck inside the castle for nearly an entire month, it was more than refreshing. Sure, the courtyard had a glass roof and their windows all throughout the castle that gave you all the sunlight you needed, but it didn’t hold a candle to actually being outside in the open. You could understand Enji’s protectiveness over your firstborn child together, but Dabi was technically your first kid and he didn’t seem all that protective towards him. It was probably due to the fact that in the eyes of the law your first conceived child was not illegitimate, but that didn’t stop you from loving Dabi like your very own. Having this baby, and maybe even more in the future, wouldn’t stop that.
Enjoying your picnic, you were unaware of the potential dangers that were about to present themselves in the form of your raging husband who had just recently returned from his outing for the day after handling business in town.
The King soon returned after dealing with some rather insufferable individuals who dared to steal from him and his kingdom, as well as the people inside of it. Naturally, he made an example of them in the middle of the town square with a public execution, hanged in front of hundreds of eyes to witness. Adults, children, and many different people of all ages had come to watch the execution since it was such a rarity. Not because crime was relatively low in the kingdom, but because people didn’t dare to do any crime that directly impacted the king, and so, the three who had committed treason against the King— having become double spies for an enemy kingdom— were sentenced to death without remorse or any a single feather of mercy. Enji had, immediately after the deed was done, gotten into the carriage and ordered the coach to rush back to the castle so that he could see his wife. Knowing her, she was probably up to no good with him not being in the vicinity to steer her back to their bedroom. Hopefully he would not have to discipline you too harshly.
Once he had arrived, he was greeted by his usual servants, to which he grunted in greeting them nonverbally, walking past them and up the stairs that led to the front doors. He had failed to notice a few nervous looks from the servants that bowed to him, seeming to know something he didn’t. He could care less about them, he was more interested in your whereabouts. And so, he marched his way straight to your shared chambers, walking much faster than expected of a man his size. When the large oak doors, decorated with gold trimmings, had come into view, the slightest bit of a smile appeared on his face as he picked up his pace, pushing open the doors in hopes of seeing your face. “My Queen, I’m home—“ He said, though, upon not seeing you anywhere in sight he paused, quirking an eyebrow whilst giving the sizeable room a quick glance around. Perhaps you were in the bathroom? However, you would have verbally responded to him if you were, which led him to a few conclusions, all of which had him equally almost foaming at the mouth. Turning on the balls of his feet, he trekked his way to find the nearest (unlucky) servant.
After a couple seconds of walking, he spots a maid, dusting a painting propped up on one of the hallway walls, and immediately furrowed his brows, barking out his words like a rabbid dog that’s just had its chew toy taken from him. “Hey, YOU! Where is she? Where is the Queen? Didn’t I tell you to make sure she stayed in her room? Are you and the rest of the idiots in this castle this useless??” He questioned, watching as the servant immediately straightened up and began to tremble, the feather duster in her hand beginning to shake along with her. It seemed that he was waiting for an answer, seeing how he had now moved to stand just a foot away from her, looking down at her with a burning gaze. The maid’s mouth gaped open and then closed, mirroring that of a gasping fish. With every second of her lack of response, he was beginning to grow even more irritated with every passing second. Finally, he spoke again since she didn’t seem to know how to speak. “Where. Is. She?” He asked, each word sounding more aggressive than the last. The maid stared at him for just a few seconds longer before finally stammering out. “O-o-outside! Near the s-s-servants quar-quarters, Your Majesty!!” She quickly answered and then bowed her head to him, hoping that he would spare her of any horrible punishment. Thankfully her prayers were answered when she was met with the sound of heavy footsteps that quickly faded away from her location, and when she dared to look up, she could barely make out the King’s form as he hurried down the hallway. And she slowly stood up, swallowing her nervousness before her eyes widened upon realizing something. Then she crossed her heart and shut her eyes before quietly mumbling a prayer for the Queen and anyone else within a foot of the King’s wrath.
The heat that radiated off of Enji’s body was not just a result of his quirk, no, he was absolutely enraged. You didn’t listen to him, you disobeyed his orders, and who knows what kind of situations you were putting yourself and his daughter through. And with that rage fueling his walking speed, he soon found himself at another set of doors that let outside and after some twists and turns and few minutes of walking, he stumbled across you, currently standing in the middle of the grass nearby the servant’s quarters, looking around almost as if you were looking for something. And as he got closer, he heard you speak.
“Come out, come out, wherever you are!”
At that moment, he realized you were playing that trivial children’s game— Hide and Seek. How dare you put your daughter’s life in danger just to play some stupid fucking game. Were you insane? His rage did have a tendency to blind him and make him act before thinking through things, and so, he wasn’t surprised when he suddenly stalked his way over to you, to which you turned to meet him and his hardening gaze, but a pained yelp jumped from your lips when he had suddenly struck you across the face with the back of his hand.
Enji didn’t mean to hit you so hard, but it seemed he couldn’t control his temper. He’d slapped you hard enough that it sent you rearing back, falling flat on your ass, thankfully the grass had cushioned your fall. The smack was so loud that it caused the birds in the trees nearby to flee, and you could have swore you had heard a duo of gasps as well. Even with your skin tone, the print of his hand was visible on your inflamed cheek. You’re stunned and go through the seven stages of grief in only a matter of milliseconds. Had he just hit you? The woman was too stunned to speak.
Upon hearing the sound of a slap, Dabi quickly retreated from his hiding place, only to whimper in anxiety and fear seeing the position you were in. You were still sitting up on the grass, cradling your cheek that was no doubt going to be swollen for a couple hours, and his father— glaring down at you with his hand still risen in the air. The disgust on his face was apparent and it had the four year old’s knees beginning to shake. As much as he wishes to run over and protect his new mama and his sibling, he’s frozen with fear, watching the two of you just… stare at each other, neither of you speaking a word. Keigo, who was nearby and had flew up to sit in the high branches of a tree to hide, happened to see the entire thing unfold in front of his eyes. He wanted to yell out for you and tell you to watch out but he didn’t dare too, instead, he’s horrified, but he doesn’t move an inch from where he is, not wishing to be punished in a similar, most likely worse fashion.
“I told you not to leave our bedroom. How many times do I have to remind you that until you give birth to our child, you aren’t allowed to go outside without me? Do you not understand the dangers that go outside these castle walls? Are you that stupid? Do I need to constantly supervise you like a child?” He began to drone on and on, scolding you after he had slapped you across the face and had no shame or even a tinge of being apologetic. As you listened to him literally talk down at you, almost like you weren’t his equal and you weren’t the mother of his children, your shock began to ball up into anger, rage, and something… else.
His voice and his words had made something else swell up inside of you, aside from your growing baby, and before you knew it— your quirk had unleashed itself without you controlling it.
Your head, where hair used to be, engulfed in black flames and your eyes began to glow a ferocious green color. And then suddenly, those same black flames continued to manifest themselves, wrapping protectively around your body like a suit of pure shadowy flames. You can’t control it, and before you can even register what’s taken over you, one of your shadow-protected hands wraps around Enji’s throat, choking the living daylights out of your husband, lifting him off the ground with a newfound strength that you never once knew you had. This new form is far from human, standing at nearly ten feet tall, the shadow of its body waft in the sun like long grass on a breezy day, it has no mouth, and its eyes are not truly eyes, they were simply crescent-shaped green flames, tapered at the ends. It’s bodyshape was elongated and widened, making your human form disappear inside of it as it created a protection barrier over every inch of your body. It was almost as if you had been shrunken down into a protective ball within the creature. The creature was a defense mechanism that you had no idea about, however, inside of it… it felt incredibly safe, almost as if you were being swaddled in the world’s safest blanket inside of your mother’s arms, lulling you to sleep and just let it protect you and keep you safe. You knew that you could control shadows, but you never knew that shadows could protect you like /this/, almost as if it was sentient… While you remained calm and relaxed inside of it your cheek had began to heal at a much more rapid speed, in mere seconds, you could no longer feel the swelling or the stinging pain anymore. The shadow creature had squeezed your husband’s neck, watching as his face had been to burn red and then turn blue due to the lack of oxygen, he wasn’t even able to properly activate his quirk due to this. If this continued you would probably kill him. But was that necessarily a bad thing? You were starting to think otherwise.
author’s note: hello again! so sorry it took me so long to post another chapter, for some odd reason i decided to start writing other multi-chaptered stories because i like pain and suffering. hopefully i will start to update this bad boy more often! hope you enjoyed this latest chapter, stay tuned for the next one!

The Mound: A TADC FAERIE!AU
Hello, I'm Key. This is the first installment of my TADC AU. I'm not sure if anyone else has done a Faerie!AU for TADC yet, but I wanted to give it a go. I thought it'd be something fun to do. (Haven't published fanfiction on the internet in ages lol). Please enjoy! I might end up posting this on AO3.
TW: Slight depictions of blood and a mental breakdown
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Come away, O human child! To the waters and the wild With a faery, hand in hand, For the world's more full of weeping than you can understand. - W.B. Yeats
The young woman wasn’t sure if it was the pain drumming in her skull or the scent of…flowers? Decay? Both? That woke her up. Her eyes hazily drifted open.
Twinkling lights greeted her with loud hues, much to her annoyance. All of these colors and smells tore at her senses. It also didn’t help that her mind was still groggy. She curled into a ball, hoping and praying this tidal wave of sensations would pass.
She clutched the dirt beneath her. The cool, softness of it settled between her fingers and under her nails. Slowly but surely, she focused and breathed in the sweet, earthy scent. Somewhere in the distance, the sound of gentle music played. Her body finally relaxed.
“The transformation is complete! Everyone please welcome our new member to The Mound!” A booming voice filled the unfamiliar air. Panic stirred in her blood as she bolted up. Reality bit her suddenly- she didn’t know where she was. And she wasn’t alone.
Not too far from her, shining beneath the gaudy lights, a man in a cherry leather suit stepped into view. A sleek top hat sat on top of his fiery hair. His long, messy locks reminded the young woman of a lion’s mane. His gait seemed to imitate a lion approaching unsuspecting prey too. She tried to keep herself from shuddering  under his wild gaze. But what stood out most was his too wide grin. Perhaps it was an attempt to be friendly-the naïve thought crossed her mind- yet the sight of his unsettling smile made her stomach churn.
Something was off about this man.
“That was some nap she took, eh, boss?” a small orb of light zipped into view. It looked like a blue fire with dark eyes and sharp, flamey teeth. She blinked a few times to make sure she was actually seeing the strange creature.
“Quite the nap, indeed, Bubble! Transformations do take a while. How are you feeling, dear?” The smiling man held a hand towards her. Even from where she was on the ground, she could tell he towered over her significantly.
“Who…who are you?” she asked weakly. She hated how dazed she was. Her body felt like it was dipped in honey, slow and heavy.
“Why I’m the King of the Mound!” The  man’s smile, surprisingly, widened even more. Before she could protest, he pulled her up and twirled her. She held back a gag from the sudden,  jerky motions.
“But you can call me Caine,” the man chirped when he finally stopped twirling her.
“This is Bubble!” The tiny creature steadied her back. Although she wouldn’t admit it, she was thankful the little flame stopped her spinning. But there was still the matter of the smiling man.
“Why am I here?” the young woman asked with a little more strength this time. His teeth gleamed beneath the gaudy lights. Her mind reeled at the possibilities of his intentions.
“You’re my new subject, and we’re all here to welcome you to your new home!” Caine gestured to the space above them. Stalactites and stalagmites were a little more obvious to her amidst the galaxy-like cavern. She squinted between the shadows to where Caine was pointing. Had he not pointed them out, she would’ve missed the five silhouettes lingering among the lights.
“Honestly, I just wanted to see the new sucker meltdown,” one of the figures said.
“Of course that’s the reason,” another figure responded sarcastically.
“Why do you have to be so mean?” one cried.
“Guys, not so loud. We don’t want to overwhelm her,” said a much kinder voice.
“What’s this about an insect collection?” said one of the taller shadows.
She turned her attention back to Caine.
“New home? I’ve been kidnapped!?” she cried.
“Oh, goodness no! Lemme explain, I’ll get right to it!” She let out a little gasp as the man began floating. These curious sights and unknowns were getting overwhelming. She wasn’t sure how to take in all of these oddities.
“We’ll start off with your name,” declared Caine with a twinkle in his eye.
“Name? My name is…” she wracked her brain. Somehow the sounds and letters of her name slipped out her mind like runny wax.
“You don’t have a name currently, my dear. At least, not since you gave me your old name,” he said.
“I gave you my name?” the young woman said incredulously.
“That is correct! Your old name in exchange for an eternity of mind bending wonder, joy, and adventure! Isn’t that exciting?”
Her mind hazily tried to piece everything together- a mushroom circle, a grinning man, and the overwhelming need to escape her life. Had she really chosen this? What was going on in her  life that made her desperate for escape? The memories and answers seemed like a distant light that was growing ever dimmer. She needed to hold onto it.
“Could I…have it back?” she asked a lot more awkwardly than intended. Part of her hoped that Caine would be reasonable and agree. Then again, is there any reason in this place? She thought somewhere in the back of her mind. Her thoughts were cut short.
Howling laughter sounded from one of the upper corners of the cavern.
“Did you hear that? She wants her name back!” A slap echoed through the air.
“Shut up, Jax.”
“Unfortunately, the deal has already been made. You willingly gave me your old name, so it’s mine now.  Such a small price for all this excitement!” Caine twirled in the air gleefully.
“Could we reverse the deal?” she asked.
“I’m afraid not. As you’ll soon learn, we faerie folk are very tenacious when it comes to promises.” He floated uncomfortably close. “You could say we’re cosmically bound by them,” he whispered in her ear.
The young woman stumbled back. The air was suddenly too sweet and sticky in her lungs. She was certain she’d vomit this time. She clenched her hands, nails digging  into her palm. Then it clicked.
“Dream,” she mumbled.
“What was that, dear?”
“Yes, yes. It all makes sense now,” she said with assurance rising in her voice. It would explain the unusualness of the place and why she couldn’t remember her name. She didn’t need to fear. That comfort nestled in her heart while she gave Caine a determined look.
“This is a dream! I was reading a book…I think… about…about never mind! I’ll wake up soon enough, but please, carry on.”
Caine gave her a quizzical look before donning his smile again.
He reached into his cost and pulled out what looked like sticks. Yet these sticks shined a brilliant gold underneath the cavern lights. Its remaining leaves were studded with dainty diamonds resembling dew. With the flick of his wrists, Caine tossed the sticks high in the air. They came crashing down in an array of letters.
“Xddc?” he scratched his head. Bubble flew over to his side. He gave the sticks a quick glance.
“Would you like the honest or nice opinion, boss?” he asked.
“Neither, Bubble! Your opinion is irrelevant anyway!” Caine said jovially. The little flame gave a gesture similar to a shrug before picking up the sticks with his mouth. He plopped them into Caine’s gloved hands.
The young woman watched intently as Caine tossed the sticks once more. They gleamed beautifully in the air before thunking to the ground.
Somehow, looking at that name felt like something branded in her. A door locked into place. A point of no return crossed. She didn’t like the feeling. That saccharine stench gripped her lungs again.
“Pomni! What an excellent name! Everyone give three cheers to Pomni!”
Silence. Then the unkept beat of awkward clapping. A delayed yelp sounded from a silhouette.
Dream
Dream
Dream
Her mind kept screaming. Pomni clung to those thoughts desperately. She pressed her fingernails against her palm. The pain would make her wake up soon, she reasoned.
Caine’s smile dimmed as he looked over at Pomni. His face was filled with uncharacteristic concern.
“My dear, you’re bleeding,” he said gently.
“No one bleeds dreaming,” she snapped. This sick imagination had gone long enough. Forget being polite. She wanted this nightmare to be over.
“But you are, Pomni,” he held her wrist and delicately lifted her hand.
She looked at her fingertips. Bright and horribly true, blood covered them. Only then was she aware of the pain eating at her palm. She was without a shadow of terrible doubt, awake. This was happening.
She couldn’t take it anymore. Turning away, Pomni ran desperately. In her frantic state, she failed to notice the rocks and large puddle. She tripped and crashed into shallow water. Pomni coughed as she shakily propped herself up in the puddle.
The ripples settled. Pomni saw a creature stare at her in the water.
Its eyes alternated in a spiral of blue and red. The vibrant irises were a stark contrast to its ghostly skin. The surprised expression it displayed was framed by short, dark hair.  A red mushroom hat dotted with yellows and blues sat on top of its head.
Against her better judgment, Pomni reached out.
Hands against face.
Hands against face.
Hands against face.
Blood smeared on the face now.
It was her.
Her toothy grin reflected on the water’s surface. Someone’s laughter echoing in her ears. A symphony of blissful hysteria drowning out every other sound. It morphed into some wretched cry that pierced the cavern walls.
Pomni kept screaming.

Glancing at something on Ao3 -
What kind of feelings Jerry was supposed to evoke, actually?
FE16 pushes the player - through Billy - to consider Jerry as a good parent, because it plays with the red herring about the evil lizard lady being evil.
And yet, even with all of his misgivings about his kid, Jerry is still the one who calls Flamey's bullshit and wonders if running away from GM wasn't the stupidest decision he ever made, just before kicking the bucket.
Being the cheap copy of the Ike'n'Greil relationship, Jerry's presence and death is supposed to be important to Billy - even in Tru Piss where they look pissed at seeing Emile and working with Uncle'n'pals.
And yet, unlike what we learn about Greil being the chadest amongst chads with 1 (one!) blackspot to his record, whenever you talk to characters about Jerry you're met with... less than rosy thoughts, even if the characters apparently handwave it away.
Let it be with Leonie, or even Alois, Billy learns that their dad wasn't the chadest of chads like Greil, but a drunkard (before Citrus' death, since Alois was a kid!) who apparently played dangerous games with people who idolised him, left his kid alone to be showered with praise by Leonie's village as he dealt with bandits, and left bar tabs all around the continent for his "apprentices" to pay.
Come the "journal" where, imo, we learn that dude was so afraid of his baby not being "normal" than he ran away from the odd lady who saved them "a long time" ago and who's pretty much not normal himself, and the place where his own wife, who displayed - partly - the same "abnormality" as their baby grew up and lived.
Then Nopes happened and did a number on poor Jerry - from mocking their kid's potential aspirations at being something else than a sword for hire, to their singing (done to cheer him up!) and actually learning he at times apparently let them go without food while he never invited them to the "thank you" parties throwns by the people his company saved...
Billy still loves their dad, but is he a good dad by any means?
With all that knowledge, after playing both FE16 and Nopes, can we really feel upset when Jerry kicks the bucket? For Billy maybe, because Jerry is important for them, but does it has the same echo as Greil's death, or even, to remain in Fodlan, Rodrigue's?
I guess if in Nopes, Jerry acted on his heel-face turn (or suddenly growing a brain) from his penultimate FE16 dialogue, we could have had a character growing beyond the red herring and the "unreliable narrator" stuff FE16's first part gave us, and maybe make for a more grounded-complete character, like confessing that he panicked after Citrus' death and worried for Billy, but regrets not being able to bring them the best life they dreamt of, and willing to apologise and let Billy grow in the same environment Citrus did.
Or maybe even explore what Jerry did in 300 years, if he never bothered to wonder why the fuck was he living to be as old as the elites, or his thoughts and feelings about Rhea periodically using hairdye to pretend to be someone else and "aging" even less than him...
Given how - or maybe i'm tainted by the fandom - FE16 thrived on the playerbase feeling characters/situation "relatable" from a doylist pov, I guess Jerry running away with bby!Billy because they weren't "normal" wasn't as weird as it sounds, babies should rightfully have a beating heart!
Bernie is a hikkikomori (forget the part where she's supposed to be the heir of one of the most important lands in Adrestia which would rightfully make her father disappointed with her (lbr, Greg would either have tried to get another kid with Bernie's mom, or got a second wife/bastard, or picked a branch member of his house to take his succession), Linhardt falls asleep and doesn't want to do his job as the next minister of Finances/whatever his dad does and prefers to hyperfocus on academic research ? How lol (please ignore the implications of House Hervring's heir being, uh, not interested in whatever his father does and how he is supposed to inherit his job (at least before Supreme Leader starts her war and pulls out her "reforms")).
Between the brackets are the first arguments that come to mind, if we consider the world those characters live in, aka Watsonian wise.
Jerry is worried about his baby's heart not beating and them not being normal? Jerry, you're not "normal" per Fodlan's standards yourself, you're over 300! Your wife had the same difficulties to emote than your kid and she might or not have had the same "heart not beating" syndrome given how it's her own heart that was transplanted in your kid
You know that what is "normal" for regular humans in Fodlan do not apply to you, your wife or your boss who oddly looks like your wife. So why was that argument even considered when you decided to run away and condemn your child to a life of "sword for hire" and danger at each day ending with a -y ?
IDK, it's as if, in BK, Kalas' bro, born without wings - which is an oddity since apparently everyone is born with some in this verse - finds Kalas weird for only having "one wing" and not two like everyone. It would be the pot calling the keetle back (but since BK is a game with coherent writing, this never happened).
Jerry runs away with the baby because the baby isn't normal despite the midwife assuring everyone they are?
Legit
300 yo Jerry runs away with the baby because the baby has the same condition as their mother despite the "immortal lady who saved his life" assuring him the baby is alright?
WTF
So, in the end, what are we supposed to think of Jerry?
Was he a character who made the best situation out of the shitty cards he was handed regarding their kid?
Or a character who swallowed an idiot plot ball to play with the doylist red herring, made errors but ultimately saw the light before being Clownya'd?
Or, given his supports and Nopes, a shitty character whose only redeeming point is to be Billy's dad, and who receives a lot of leeway by virtue of being Billy's dad by the writing team (given two fans) and the first game being from Billy's POV?

hi! can you tell me about mercury conjunct mars in synastry? thank you so much <33
Flirtyness!! It may feel like you two can go back and forth for hours. Incentives are always firing and running here. Mental sparks are flying. It can be problematic when you start naturally responding to each other with tension, because that can create defensiveness and hostility. You stimulate each other’s minds. It really depends what sign this is in. In scorpio, for example, this creates undeniable sexual tension but also suspicion, since mercury is so deeply sharp here and mars can more easily get to the point of mercury’s thoughts. They can offend each other. In gemini this aspect is extremely flirty. In pisces this aspect is almost therapeutic, like two flamey philosophers meeting.

I love your fic There's Not a Word Yet SO MUCH. that's the kind of story that I'd sink hours into reading. I'm enjoying what you've written so much.
the memory loss, and the little changes between the empires folks and their double life selves, tango getting overwhelmed and flamey!! agh it's so good, I keep reading their meeting scene again it hurts me in a good way
:]
Oh gosh thank you so much! Welcome to the amnesia party! :D
(And true, same, the moment they meet - that little bit of dialogue, of Tango getting excited and Jimmy politely asking “Who are you?” and not realizing how much that question just hurt this overly friendly “stranger” - gods. That was the spark that started this whole AU ;-; I cri)
I can’t wait to continue working on TNaWY (and trust me, the next chapter IS DEFINITELY in progress) though knowing how busy the holidays are in my family, an update may not appear until after the New Year. But it’s coming! There are certain…reasons…why everyone on Empires is acting the way they are, and it’ll all be revealed soon enough, don’t worry! ;) It’s part mystery, part heartbreak, part Rancher fluff-n-angst, part world-building magic, with a decent heap of Protective/Love Sick Tango and Good Friend Impulse on top to finish off this chaos cake. Keep an eye out! The minute I finish Chapter 3, it’s getting published!

YES EXACTLY WHAT THOSE PEOPLE ARE SAYING!!! I am hereby announcing AFO my favorite character because he's the only one in this whole manga whose actually acknowledging Hawks' efforts. He singles him out as responsible for why the villains couldn't destroy as much as they wanted to, the reason they were forced on the defense, and tells him he made the right choice in focusing on Twice. (Which I'm a little lol at because Dabi thought Hawks should've been watching him. Nah man, yeah you're controversial but your shirtless broadcast isn't taking any lives.) Everyone else needs to get on AFO's level, such a good employer who understands the value his employees bring to the table. Work benefits include uhhh, a few forest mansions and caves to take a nap in with bonus quirks that may turn you into a Nomu. With Kinder egg surprise explosives.
That's really funny though. Imagine you're AFO. You just woke up inside Shigaraki, found out you came out of the oven a little too early, find your main body, and have to tell him that Shigaraki basically lost half the League, all of PLF except like 100-300 goons, all the high-ends, because Dabi let in a spy that went and killed the guy that could've made up a good number of your forces. Dabi is lucky he made up for it or else he'd be getting his flaming butt fired XD Pity they didn't lose Spinner and Toga too. Would've loved to see AFO make do with just one flamey boi. They would clash funny too. AFO going all "now Touya-kun" as Dabi stomps his feet like "I can't stand that old man spending another day walking around under the sun" (actual canon interaction) poor AFO, now how's he gonna get to Kurogiri and take down all the heroes without someone to do it for him. Canon AFO got lucky. It's the only way his smug "lmao, the man willing to burn down everyone gave a femm fatale a shiny new weapon" speech works. Otherwise he'd be making a "I only have Dabi on my side and he's kinda like a hyperactive puppy-cat who runs away on his own but fear him" speech.
I'm laughing at the thought of AFO advertising his side now like an owner of a company XD
Thank you for the mental image, nonnie, I love it. In fact this whole ask is hilarious and I'm never going to be able to look at AFO in any other way.
LMAO love Dabi thinking he's such hot shit only for AFO to disagree though, damn boy even the demon king doesn't agree with you, sad times.
It is a little sad though that AFO is the one who acknowledges all of Hawks efforts T-T Like damn, the villain noticed but he didn't get the same kind of praise from the heroes or civilians but instead Hawks felt like he had to apologise for his actions...
I am surprised that Dabi's actions aren't acknowledged by anyone though, he nearly fucked up everything because he allowed Hawks into the PLF. It's not the first time that Dabi has fucked things up as well (I still laugh that it's because people saw him come and go from the bar that the heroes were able to locate their hideout originally). Like damn, this boy is like a cat, he's got nine lives.
Or maybe AFO is just like "I invested a lot in this little shit too so I'm not going to kill you just yet" and to be fair, Dabi did come through with Twice's blood...

you know what could have been nice? If Whodislava had gotten some spotlight in Nopes, instead of Mistake... Like I still don't get who she's supposed to be (never played CF but i've heard there isn't much more about her there anyway?), but she's /established/. She's part of Supreme Leader's commanders, she's one of the closest she has, supposedly one of the best? (else SL wouldn't keep her) and she's loyal to the death to SL.
She's loyal to her, ready to die for her, but she's not a simp, the way Mistake is! She'd have been 100% more palatable than Mistake, while still being clearly blinded by her loyalty.
She'd also have been excellent to show SL's hypocrisy when it comes to her soldiers vs Faerghus's knights; Whodislava IS the equivalent of a Faerghus knight, and I'm pretty sure she'd go as far as Dedue is willing to go for SL (aka, burn a village if asked, kill children, etc).
I forgot where i was going with this, but i just think it's a missed opportunity not to have developped Whodislava, instead of propping up groupie #2397 of SL who counts the number of breaths her beloved emperor takes every minute
(Randomlph is a lot cause though)
Who?
Apparently Ladislava is supposed to be someone who became general without having the "adequate" family background, so she thanks Supreme Leader for giving her a chance to become the general she is.
Which is good, and an example of the meritocracy she wants to promote... except that, as you said, Ladislava is a general who, whose death is as mourned as Paul's the loldier.
Monica is interesting though, if only for her Hubert support where she shows a modicum of awareness about her duty as a noble, only to ditch it completely when Hubert assures her that with Supreme Leader's reforms, she won't need to give a fuck about her randoms anymore, and will be able to go to the Imperial capital to uwu about her idol all day long.
TBH Whodislava could have been someone like Avlora in TS - who ultimately has to confront her ideals about Supreme Leader and the truth of Flamey, and in the end, we off her (like a Camus archetype?) but that would have soured your cup of Hresvelg Grey :(
So she remains a litteral who instead.

This is probably gonna be weird AF (which is why it's on anon) but I just wanted to thank you. I read your "ask" you had sent to another writer about the issues you have about the reader forgiving a character after bringing another girl around. This is something I was absolutely terrified to say about a story they wrote, despite the fact that I was upset about it... Although it was moreso about the idea in general and not their specific story, because a lot of authors (in many different fandoms) use this plot device. I've even wanted to make posts about it on my page asking about it, but was worried it'd be received as "flamey" because I was taking it to a more negative place than it was meant, I guess? I just really struggle to see the romanticism with it and always assumed that was a me problem because so many people are a fan. So, reading that ask genuinely made me tear up in relief, that someone else out there had similar thoughts and was brave enough to say it. I don't expect a response or anything, I just really wanted to let you know how much I appreciated seeing it.
I don't know if you're hanging around on my blog after this, but this made me feel all warm and fuzzy. Happy to hear you found some comfort/ felt seen/understood, etc - however you'd like to phrase it!
If you are around, and would be willing to talk in PM a bit more, I'd be totally open to doing that! .xo

👏KOTLC👏CHARACTERS’👏LOVE👏LANGUAGES👏
if you’re curious as to what the heck that even is... here’s a linkie boi
Sophie Foster: Words of Affirmation. All those years of constantly hearing people hate on her internally really sucked. Like, honestly, she just wanted someone to tell her she was doing a good job, that she was a good kid-- like she didn’t get a lot of that. Twas rough. It’s better now. But seriously, tell this girl that she’s doing things right and you’re proud of her and she might burst into tears.
Keefe Sencen: Physical Touch. He’d be doing a lot better emotionally if he weren’t so absolutely frigging touch-starved. He really just needs someone, anyone at this point, to hold him very close and tight and let him know that he is loved.
Fitz Vacker: Acts of service. He is tired of having to do all the things. The things are too much. It is a lot of things. If someone could do the things for him, he would be so happy. He might cry.
Biana Vacker: Receiving Gifts. She likes things. Things are real, things are physical, she can hold them to her chest, and look back at them when she isn’t quite certain in whether or not people actually care about her. It’s not a lot of things, she only keeps a couple. But when people give her a gift, and say things like, “Here! This made me think of you!” You’d be hard pressed to find something she doesn’t like. If you tell her you thought of her when you first saw it, she’ll smile wider than the sky, and tell you “thank you” with such honesty that you feel slightly awkward because that’s a big emotion in two little words. But she means it. She will smile at that rock for the rest of her life, because you said it matched the color of her bracelet that day.
Dex Diznee: Quality Time. He wants to be around people. Not a lot, and not constantly. He likes his space, certainly. But he likes being around people. He likes talking with people aimlessly for hours, he likes spending time on the floors of his friends’ bedrooms listening to music. They don’t have to talk about much. He just wants to be around them. He might be sitting next to them, reading or working or something, but he’s with someone. So it’s good. It’s really good.
Marella Redek: Physical Touch. Give the fire girl cuddles. Sometimes she feels like no one wants to be close to her because she radiates heat like Linh radiates kindness. But then her mom, or her dad, or one of her friends will swoop her into a hug, not worried about all the harm she could do with her touch, or the flames she could bring into existence, and tell her that she’s a human heater or that she gives the best hugs and this flamey girl will melt. It’s literally the cutest thing.
Linh Song: Words of Affirmation. Tam is the only reason she’s felt loved for so long, if only because he’s the only person for most of her childhood who would tell her that she was good, she was worth it, she was loved. It’s rough, wanting people to tell you good things your whole life, and only ever receiving bad, except in a few scant places.
Tam Song: Words of Affirmation. He is the same as Linh, except for one thing. Where Linh got her love from Tam, he couldn’t get that same kind of love from her. If only because she was little, she was small, and she depended on him, and older siblings cannot depend on their little siblings. You cannot. You need to protect, defend, and it is not their job.
Stina Heks: Quality Time. Sit next to her during lunch willingly? She’d die for you. Hang out with her for more than a 90 minutes at a time? She’ll swoon. Make a concerted effort to be around her at little to no benefit to yourself other than the fact that you’re spending time with her? She’ll marry you.
Wylie Endal: Acts of Service. He likes coming home from work or school and seeing that someone made dinner, and that it’s his favorite. It warms up the corners of his soul that had gotten cold over the day. Maybe his friend helps him clean his room, without him asking, and his grin will make you wonder how such small things mean so much. Linh once copied out a letter for him(he hates writing letters like you hate emailing your teacher because it’s three weeks into the semester and you still can’t find the syllabus) and his eyes lit up brighter than the stars. He never expects it, and that’s probably why it always floors him.
