Troll Watching (avi’li and erenville being strangers and making awkward jokes)

Avi’li nods along to Erenville’s words. He doesn’t think he’s ever seen a mushroom ooze before. Then again, he’s never paid much attention to mushrooms when they’re not on his plate or in his bowl. Do the giant mushroom men in Gridania count? But Erenville has him curious, so he asks, “And why do they do this?”

“It’s a way of relieving water pressure that builds up.”

“Like crying?”

Erenville considers, “I suppose that’s a fair comparison, though a little sad to think about a fungus crying bloody tears.”

“Certainly not the only one amongst us.” Ah.

It was meant as a joke but Avi’li’s words didn’t have that pep or punch to them, weighed down by a smidge too much truth. Erenville shifts, unsure how to interpret the “joke” so Avi’li laughs. Too soft to fully shake off the awkwardness, but it serves as a nice deflection.

“First you’re a frog expert, now you’re a mushroom expert?”

“Knowing a few facts doesn’t make an expert.”

Untiled/Dog Days (wip; surprise! avi’li adopted ninja dogs and he’s making it yugiri’s problem too)

Yugiri knew leaving her home would lead her to strange, incredible places. Thus far that remains true, though few things in life prepare you for a former flame (a handsome, still burning flame despite herself) returning to the Enclave with three small dogs in tow. Three dogs also inexplicably trained in the ninjutsu arts.

She watches the dogs, all at attention and watching her expectantly. They are well trained. She looks up at Avi’li for an explanation.

“They followed me from Mount Rokkon,” Avi’li answers, but stops himself. Yugiri’s eyes narrow, waiting.

Avi’li isn’t one to shy away from hard truths, but now he casts his eyes to the side, silvery strands of hair obscuring his gaze. Hesitating, Yugiri thinks, because his words might hurt her.

He shifts his weight between his feet, finally saying, “Their master is dead.”

By my hand, Yugiri finishes in her head.

“Hancock says her name was Yozakura.” Yugiri’s breath hitches. “I thought, both of you being shinobi, you may have known her.”

“Oh,” Yugiri breathes, “Yozakura…”

Light (wip; avi’li’s experience swallowing pure light aether)

Breathe in. Breathe out.

Not even the air tastes the same. What scant remnants of aether remain in this world burn to nothing in his lungs. He hesitates on every exhale. Light singes the tip of his tongue, aches behind his teeth, looking for a release.

Breathe in. Breathe out.

The distant shouts of children reach Avi’li’s ears from where he sits crumpled on the floor, back pressed firm against the wall in a tucked away corner of Sweetsieve. From here, he can at least enjoy the rain.

It takes more effort than he cares to admit to raise his head to the sky, green eyes narrowed against the soft pattering of rain. The Crystarium feels more alive when it rains. People are drawn out, marvel at the clouds, the cold in the air, the water from the sky, all novelties where once there was only oppressive Light. Avi’li fears, beyond his own wellbeing, the consequences of the Light escaping, that this rain might be the last that the First ever sees.

Breathe in…

For now, the rain is a small salve, a relief from the relentless prickling of Light inside of him, like a million dull knives across his skin, his heart, his ribs. It’s maddening, this sensation. His eyes slide shut.

Breathe out…

Azem (wip; avi’li asks themis about azem)

“Looking back I should have realized they would spare no effort in preventing the natural outcome. If it is in their power to relieve or prevent suffering, they will do so. That island had been evacuated of course, though the land and the homes of those people would have been entirely lost.” Themis shares a smile with Avi’li that feels like a secret. Avi’li leans in closer. “When I asked, they told me it was to protect the island’s delicious grapes, unique in their taste, and nothing more besides. Yet I suspect the true cause was to protect those homes loved by the people there.”

Avi’li smiles at that. He knows, by way of visions from Azem’s crystal, the truth in Apollo’s own words as remembered by Emet-Selch. That all that effort truly was for grapes, grapes that held enough meaning with the people, the land, to be worthy of preservation and protection all on their own.

“Why do you think they would lie about that?” Avi’li asks.

That gives Themis pause, and he taps on his chin. “Azem has a quiet sense of humor. It could be they were being coy as a tease.”

“Are they often like that? Coy.”

“Not at all. They are, in my opinion, refreshingly straightforward.”

Then why, Avi’li keeps this to himself, can you not accept this answer?

New Feelings (unpublished; avi’li crushing on aymeric and haurchefant having fun at his expense)

“Pray allow me privy to your thoughts?”

Avi’li answers with a shrug, “Thinking about Aymeric.”

“The Lord Commander?” Haurchefant raises an eyebrow. “What about him?”

“Ay’anno, just thinkin’ about him.”

“Did he request another meeting?”

“Wouldn’t you be the one to know that?”

Haurchefant purses his lips, “Then what?”

“Just…he’s an interesting man.” Avi’s eyes turn back towards the ceiling. “Just all…admirable and tall and collected…that stuff.”

“Uh huh.”

Avi’li frowns at the tone he hears and rolls onto his side to properly face Haurchefant, who’s trying and horrifically failing at hiding a crooked grin. “What?”

“What about?”

“Why’re you smiling like a spriggan?”

“Like a spriggan? Are you implying my teeth are anything similar to a creature who gnaws on rocks for a living?”

do u know what happened to Skylars art accounts ? It’s probs weird to ask but I know u guys were friends and I used to really love her art but can’t find her socials

skylar and me are still friends! I still text her everyday HAHA she just deleted all her social media and doesn't draw much anymore! She's actually working to become a dentist now and only draws maybe once every few months? She's pretty anti social media now and plans to eventually have a dumb phone (like a very minimal flip phone or something) so im not sure if she will ever have an art social media again. I'll ask her if she wants to say anything in response and if she does later, I'll add it to this post with an edit!

"I don’t have any social media anymore, whether for myself or my art. I honestly don’t draw much at all anymore. At the time I had my accounts, I was very ill and agoraphobic. I used my hobbies as a distraction from working on myself, and so I spent the entire day drawing, or playing video games, or doing some loser shit. I started drawing less once I started trying to be better. Got my GED, my license, a job. I’m in school now. Got accepted into my program of choice and I’m in therapy. It takes a long time to be properly diagnosed, but it seems like we’re working toward diagnosing me with c-PTSD lol, so yeah, that’s kinda fucking my life up. There is a part of me that misses drawing. I think about it a lot. I think about making an account and trying to indulge in it. But, honestly, I fear it, along with any hobby I used to have from that time. I hope that when I’m really, truly healthy I’ll be able to revisit it and engage with it and grow with it again. Right now, I kind of reject my love for it. I don’t really trust myself with, uh, joy? I get really addicted and obsessed with my escapism, and I’m trying not to lol. If I were to annoyingly quote a song at you: “I’ve been much better, but atleast I’m healing.” I’ll send Brandi some of my more recent drawings to add, but there’s nothing impressive or finished among them. Thank you for asking about me. That’s very sweet. I never had nearly as many followers as Brandi did/does (nor did I deserve them), so it’s funny to me that someone is still thinking about me. This has been an amazing experience, and I’ve been able to grow both as a person and with my writing thanks to all those who leave feedback and interact with me. I’m so grateful that I’ve been given this platform to share ideas I’m passionate about, so I’d like to give back with this small event I’ve made :)

Into the sea, my baby and me, we all fall down... One Piece: OC/Marco - It's not finished but my very first story I ever wrote is very near and dear to my heart! I'm like so swamped in stuff but one day I really would like to finish Carys' story. ;u;

who would trade that hum of night? for sunlight, sunlight, sunlight… Jujutsu Kaisen: Gojo/Yuuji - I have no idea what possessed me to write this but it was a fun journey. They are just so SOFT and I love how the story progresses.

being young and dipt in folly, I fell in love with melancholy Jujutsu Kaisen: Nanami/Yuuji - My first ever hanahaki fic! I honestly love their relationship in this and it spanned a whole series because I just really enjoyed writing their dynamic from this story.

Starling Days One Piece: Marco/Reader - I'm still so proud of the monster idea/world-building I did for this! It's very near and dear to my heart. It's just a really fun thing to write and I enjoy it everytime I'm able to revisit a "Starling" AU.

Midnight Dreams (every time you're next to me) Jujutsu Kaisen: Gojo/Yuuji - My first ever a/b/o fic and I threw sooo much into it! Little lore pieces that I really enjoy and it was such a fun experience and I feel like it's the fic that people (who like goyuu) know me as so it holds a special place in my heart, hehehe.

Hi! Do you have any romcom (movie) recs? I feel like i hypothetically like the genre, but have a lot of trouble finding ones i enjoy. So many romcoms feel so formulaic (in a dead way) and misogynistic and stale to me. I think they’re a lot easier to do well in the context of a series because there’s actually time to build. Recently i thought rye lane and fire island were fun. I like kdramas when i have the time for all the episodes because i appreciate the build. I need chemistry— people who both convincingly like each other and seem like actual human beings. I thought you might have some good ideas! Thanks <3

I hope you weren't waiting on my recs all day haha i have been. hm. hungover af <3 (i'm going to leave kdramas off this list for now but if you would like specific recs for kdrama romcoms send me another ask and i can try to do them justice!)

I think this is a genre with underrated range! So one thing that I find very interesting about the genre of romcoms is that I think there tends to be a split between romcoms whose goal is, like, to be a fun lighthearted movie with a central romance, vs romcoms whose goal is to Say Something About Love in the vehicle of a funny movie. Both of these categories are represented on this list but for giggles i will not be saying which i think are which <3

anyway recs under the cut <3 i will link my tags for these movies if you want to take a look but be warned for spoilers ofc

I think for your purposes my primary rec would be Lovesick (aka Scrotal Recall). It's a (short) tv show so it would likely give you the chance to get to know the characters and see a slower build. In contrast to the frustration you've had with some more "formulaic" romcoms the writing in this show is very deliberately in conversation with romcoms of the past. Also it's just one of my favorite romcoms ever made so I rec it to everyone. The premise is that a young man, Dylan, is diagnosed with chlamydia and instructed to tell his past partners. Being a hopeless romantic (emphasis on hopeless), he decides to try to turn this into an opportunity to revisit relationships that didn't work out, and try to figure out where he's been going wrong. Two simultaneous storylines play out in each episode, the flashbacks to the exes (and breakups) and the present, where Dylan's best friend is getting married.

Older romcoms: When Harry Met Sally (ive heard this is divisive? but idc its SO funny and so well made), Moonstruck (a romantic-comedy in the operatic sense. also cher <3), The Philadelphia Story (katharine hepburn the woman u r. tw for a classic 1940s gag about punching ur wife in the face), Bringing Up Baby (screwball comedy my beloved), Roman Holiday (audrey hepburn is lethally charming in this movie), Dirty Dancing (someday ill write something this good and then You Will Realize), Much Ado About Nothing (i tend to enjoy either the danielle brooks shakespeare in the park version or the classic tennant/tate combo)

Teen romcoms: 10 things I hate about you (young heath ledger and young julia stiles ur welcome), to all the boys i;ve loved before (lana condor is ADORABLE), The Half of It (my other favorite sort-of romcom of the decade)

More recent-ish: Speed (like its keanu and sandra what more do you want), Strictly Ballroom (i used to watch this literally weekly as a child and I WAS RIGHT TO), Miss Congeniality (sandra bullock what u did for us all <3), Fire Island (thank u 4 my LYFE), The sandra bullock/channing tatum movie that came out last year (i forget what its called but he's so funny in it), Mamma Mia AND Mamma Mia Here We Go Again (beautiful greek islands, abba, cher, what more can you ask for?)

Indian/bollywood: Jab We Met (after dramatically quitting his job, Local Man somehow ends up escorting a woman he meets on the train while she attempts to elope with her boyfriend. aka classic screwball comedy heroine and Guy She Dragged Along For The Ride), khabie khushi khabi gham (multiple generations of romance and family drama featuring Kajol, the Most Beautiful Woman In the World), Band Baaja Baaraat (two wedding planners fall in love--great choice if you want to watch idiots ambushed by their feelings)

Other tv recs: Selfie (john cho and karen gillian in a show canceled far too soon)

im still sick with grief but i have been working nonstop in real life so i havent been able to really read the chhapters with the attention they deserve but i have been keeping up

you write so well and you create such rich characters and this causes me to actually get so angry about vale sometimes i have to pace around the room. i update my sister who does not gaf about rosquez or motogp at all on this fic constantly and about motogp happenings and she HATES vale she wants him dead she wants santi to get rid of him. she loves dovi tho. she thinks jorge is funny. she also thinks alex deserves to punch valentino in the face just once.

anyway marc crashing out and running to dovi is so iconic like babygirl have you reacted appropriately or normally to a situation in your life i think not. dovis begrudging acceptance of marcs antics is so in character for him and vale getting so mad about marcs slutty pics he makes everyone block marc is sending me like girl you are CRAZY. tfw u make ur students/employees/children/brother block your 22 year old ex boyfriend bc they MIGHT be lusting after him. very healthy vale you got it big dog.

also real talk is marc ever going to just full on cry in someones arms like he really deserves it and i want him to have catharsis and he seems to cry a lot irl but also hes never reacted to anything like a normal person. love him thats my beautiful wife. sorry this is incoherent im trying to remember if i had anything else to say.

OH!!! so happy we will be revisiting the bite mark because THAT was crazy. imagine permanently scarring your ex and then being like oh he never really loved me he was manipulating and lying the whole time. oh yeah i bet he was old man what the hell is wrong with this guy genuinely he pisses me off. i just need a series of confrontations on marcs behalf i dream of it. like someone sticking up for him. also cal coming back i miss him. anyway anyway i keep saying as if my next sentence will be the last thing i say. unlikely. is someone going to be like hey baby he was crazy controlling and toxic about vale to marc bc someone needs to set him straight on how a relationship should work. like theyll never be a normal couple but i think someone should have good communication skills in this fic idk. i had more to say but ill stop bothering you now ily. also fuck uccio why is he treating marc like a witch in the 16th century. marc marquez male victim of misogyny. how many chapters will this be do you know i need to emotionally prepare

Hello! I’ve recently found ur works and man wow!! You are Amazing!!!! I really love how u write the perspective and characterize each character (gonna applaud ur gojo because I love how u write his internal monologue showing his darker sides)! RipMc is definitely baby and I love love how u write her perspective and her everything. Sending her love and kisses! My favorite ripverse work (and the first series I read from you) is the exposure therapy line. Her relationship with toji and shoko is everything to me (especially shoko giving her a lecture on consent and toji and her being like yeah u nearly killed me thats cool kaksksk) and also rikos texts showing that she is Alive and Happy bless. I’m also a huge fan of irlyx6 because I too am a shojo fanatic. Irlyx6 mc is so funny I love her and I love her distinct happy crackhead energy and relationship with megumi. dearest julie, i am an admirer from afar but i wanted to say thank you for all the stories you share with us! particular chapters in smother and PLW are big big big time comfort reads for me. i revisit them when i am feeling stressed or down. i was so dead and out of commission on wednesday but yesterday, for instance, i re-read dawning and liberation plus meet cute and crazy 4 u. i just started closer, it has been a busy time for me but i am so so so excited to read it each night before sleep. there is so much negativity and hate in the world and i appreciate you sharing your creative expression—it is a light in the darkness! maybe it’s dramatic but i feel like communities like this little fandom and all the amazing writing output truly give people spaces where, on one hand, we are being entertained and have fun getting horned up lol but it also is a space where people connect and learn and grow. i’m so glad to have found you and a handful of other authors on here. yes, on one hand i live for the smut and that is a big pull, but i am truly moved by the worlds you and others create, they’ve kind of taught me some stuff about myself! hope i do not sound like a crazy person. even if it were all to disappear (which i very very much hope it doesn’t but the vibes are dark right now), i am just so glad to have ever found it all. i am sending you a BIG hug. hope you have a restful and wonderful weekend ahead.

i think i’ve rbed almost all the individual parts if ur interested in my more specific thoughts but this series has been an absolute comfort series for me for a while !! the relationships between the members and the reader - both platonic and romantic have been so lovely to read !! it’s such a genuinely warm series and the worldbuilding is also just soso fantastic !! it is a fantasy sort of au,, so it’s a bit daunting to get into just because the logic of the universes created in this genre is a bit difficult to grasp,, but uts has such an easy to comprehend world and everything is explained so clearly !! it’s genuinely one of the most comforting fics i’ve read this year and one that i’d highly recommend to pretty much everyone,, even if u aren’t a carat :D

APARTMENT A5C - @suhnshinehaos (smau - college au)

my favorite svt smau that combines some of my fav tropes/aus (housemates and uni) !! ++ i’d argue there’s a found family aspect that just melts my heart soso much,, like the reader’s relationship with the 96 line, both platonic and romantic are insanely heartwarming and comforting !! the banter is so entertaining && all of the additional friendships are just to die for !! esp sana and yuta with the reader !! but honestly this smau is just soso sweet and a story where u really root for the main couple to get together bc they just fit each other so well !! def another fic i’d recommend to anyone !!
