omfg you have every right to be angry over that anon. What a condescending, arrogant ask. There's an extra level of insult, because people aren't just trying to dispute your opinion, they're trying to waste your time, energy, and thinking too. It's not an honest and equal debate, it's just pure entitlement.
Something for your perusal: I've been reading the ASOIAF books again and was curious when I came upon Catelyn's passage up the Eyrie in AGOTA, where she laments that Mya Stone won't be able to marry the boy she's in love with because she's a bastard. Then Catelyn muses that Mya reminds her of Sansa. I thought this was interesting because of how the information is introduced, and then the Mya-Sansa parallels. Sansa becomes a bastard when Jon is a secret prince sort of business. I haven't seen anybody mention this and thought it was curious.
Thank you! <3
And there's actually a lot of stuff in that Mya Stone moment.
For one, it happens at a time when we already know that Sansa's own dreams are as hopeless as Mya's, no matter that Sansa is trueborn, because Cat and Ned both agreed to marry her to House Lannister and at the Trident Joffrey took off his mask and nothing is being done about it regarding Sansa.
Then we have the parallel to Littlefinger, whose crush (trueborn but low status) was always as hopeless as Mya's.
Then we have the fact that Cat foregoes an obvious comparison (tomboyish Arya) by focusing on not one but two other people in regard to Mya. First the unpleasant association with Jon Snow, followed by a softening when she recognizes the resemblance to Sansa.
"Mya Stone, if it please you, my lady," the girl said. It did not please her; it was an effort for Catelyn to keep the smile on her face. Stone was a bastard's name in the Vale, as Snow was in the north, and Flowers in Highgarden; in each of the Seven Kingdoms, custom had fashioned a surname for children born with no names of their own. Catelyn had nothing against this girl, but suddenly she could not help but think of Ned's bastard on the Wall, and the thought made her angry and guilty, both at once. She struggled to find words for a reply. [...] "Mychel's my love," Mya explained. "Mychel Redfort. He's squire to Ser Lyn Corbray. We're to wed as soon as he becomes a knight, next year or the year after." She sounded so like Sansa, so happy and innocent with her dreams. Catelyn smiled, but the smile was tinged with sadness. The Redforts were an old name in the Vale, she knew, with the blood of the First Men in their veins. His love she might be, but no Redfort would ever wed a bastard. His family would arrange a more suitable match for him, to a Corbray or a Waynwood or a Royce, or perhaps a daughter of some greater house outside the Vale. If Mychel Redfort laid with this girl at all, it would be on the wrong side of the sheet. (AGOT, Catelyn VI)
Mya makes her feel guilty and angry when thinking of Jon Snow, but bittersweet when contemplating her similarity to Sansa and the impossibility of her dreams. It's easier to handle Mya's status when connecting her to Sansa, someone Cat knows how to love, rather than Jon, whose existence strips all romance from the veneer of the brutal society and the reality of patriarchy for Catelyn herself. She doesn't hate bastards, she even has sympathy for them. She only hates what Jon represents for herself.
Sansa ends up modeling her own bastard figure after Jon Snow (fourteen and bastard brave), and from what we have seen of Jon's own struggles with bastardy, his own unfullfilled dreams, it becomes easy to directly compare Sansa and Jon as similar souls, with similar hopes and disappointments, with their shared longing for something unattainable by the rules of their society.
Within the one mirroring scene coming down the mountain in AFFC, Sansa contemplates Mya Stone's lost virtue (after Cat's predictions have come to pass) and potential future husband of fitting status who would love her anyway, and she will also be reminded of Jon Snow. "I am a bastard too now, just like him. Oh, it would be so sweet, to see him once again. But of course that could never be."
The chapter ends with a proposed miracle transformation. Littlefinger paints the picture of a reveal of true identity: The bastard sheds their mask and is recognized for their true self. Something that can only happen to a false bastard. Like Sansa.
Who is so similar to Jon. With his impossible dreams.

lyn's note: so this is the lee know part! I hope you guys will enjoy it!! :))
8 days for Christmas masterlist
Tumblr media
“Hi, Y/N! Welcome to Pawlicious!” A young lady - Aeri - welcomes you in the cat café.
The café was decorated with Christmas decorations everywhere and their new special menu was on display, so you ordered a Hot Waffle with chocolate syrup and a candy cane coffee - your favorite order for Christmas. The personnel knew you well enough to speak to you informally, so your order was usually already done because of your weekly Saturday visits with your cat, Snowy.
You also knew the majority of the customers, so you saluted each one of them, including their cats. You then go to your table, but right when you want to sit down, you see a man sitted on your place. You huff and touch his shoulder, making the man look at you. His brown eyes were cat-like, a tiny button nose and a sharp jaw, his beauty making you forget for a few seconds that he was occupying your place.
“Is there any problem?” The man spoke before you, making you.
“Uh, yeah.” You come back to reality. “I wanted to say that this is my table-”
“Does it write somewhere that this is your table?” He interrupts you.
“I- No, why would it-”
“Exactly.” He interrupts you again. “Now, if you want to sit down at this table, you can, I don't have any problem with it. But me and the kids” he points to his three cats “won't move.” He says, finishing with an annoying - and beautiful - smirk. You huff, rolling your eyes, but, since he said that he won't move and that you can stay at the table, however, you sat in the opposite corner of the small table. Snowy meows, trying to beg for your attention and so, she sits down in your lap. You smile and catch a glimpse of the man's smile as he sees your cat.
“Her name is Snowy.” You quietly said as you patted the pet, allowing him to pet her as well. The cat purrs and makes both of you chuckle.
“They are Soonie, Doongie and Dori.” He points to the three sleeping cats around him. You smile at them. “And… I'm Minho.”
“I'm Y/N.” You say as well, smiling towards him. “Nice to meet you-”
“Oh, and sorry for being a… dick, before. I tend to pre-judge people and I thought you-”
“Don't worry.” You give him a smile.
You give in to the temptation of continuing the conversation between you and Minho, sometimes being interrupted by one of your cats. Honestly, you really felt a connection with the man before you, as the conversation went from cats to hobbies and what you did for work. As the clock striked 3 pm, you decided it was best for you to leave. The action saddened both you and him, not mentioning the cats who were playing all together in the corner of the cafe.
Tumblr media
“Hey mystery man!” You say as you come right in front of your table, the next week. Minho was sitting in the same spot as last week, smiling as you greeted him. He wouldn’t tell you this, but he did it on purpose, wanting to talk to you more.
“Hey pretty stranger.” He smiles, making you blush from the compliment, immediately looking somewhere else, for the blush to not be so visible to him. He gestures to take a seat and you immediately agree. “Sip.” He simply says, giving you his own order.
“But it’s-”
“Mine? No, it’s yours.” He smiles, slightly petting your hand. “See?” He shows you the candy cane coffee, hot and warm, making you smile.
“You really got this… only for me?” You blush, shying away from his gaze - failing to see his red ears and shy smile as well.
“Of course not, i- it was just that I remembered you sometimes come by and I also like this coff-”
“Thank you, Min.” You smile and stop his blabber, making him look at you. He almost choked on his Christmas coffee as well, eyes widened and blush across his face - all because of a nickname. He starts smiling like an idiot, but immediately brings himself together when Soonie and Snowy purr at his leg.
Tumblr media
Two years. Two wonderful years since you and the mystery man, whose name is Lee Minho, have met. Two years since you and him became friends and started hanging out together. Two years since you had the fattest crush on your friend - that you were sure he only saw you as a friend. Every Saturday, you’d meet him at Pawlicious, with the cats. Snowy and you even found yourself at his apartment oftenly, for the cats to have some time to play, while you and Minho watched movies. You went with him to camping trips and even met his parents - a very normal thing to do between friends, right? - and met all of his friends, as he met yours. The world in which you and Minho lived was so peaceful that sometimes, you'd wish for a change. Not a big one, since, for you, the overstep of the boundaries between friends wasn't so far away. However, your insecurities and your fear of screwing up what you both had got to you, so you prefer to sit and only be his friend - no matter how painful it would have been.
It’s currently 24th december and it found you, again, in Minho’s arms, watching a sickening rom-com that you both agreed watching on this special night. Nothing compared to this tradition - although, some were pretty close - because of the intimacy it held. You often tried to not think about it, at least not when he was around, but you just couldn't stop thinking about how this would become a thing if you and him were… more.
“What's on your mind, pretty?” He asks, stroking your hair while you both cuddle.
“I- it's nothing really.” You smile.
“Hmm, I have known you for 2 years already, what's going on?” He puts a stop to the terrible Christmas rom-com and looks up at you. The strokes have stopped and his face is serious.
“I…” You try to think of something to say, but right then, Doongie jumps on Minho's lap, redirecting his attention to him. You sigh in relief.
“Don't think the talk is over, sweetheart.” He says, still patting the cat. You roll your eyes and go to the bathroom, trying to get some time before the man before you will make the truth reveal itself - the last thing you wanted to happen, really. Sure, you have some hopes that he'll be reasonable and won't break the friendship because, afterall, it's just a crush, you'll try to fight it - but losing Minho's friendship, no. Losing Minho would be the shittiest thing ever and you wouldn't want it to happen, not even in a million years. So, you think of inventing some guy - maybe one of your co-workers - to say that you have a crush. Sure, a big lie, but if it won't mean breaking the friendship, you'll say it. You sometimes think that maybe, he also feels the same, but there are too many thoughts that present you the version you wouldn't want - the one of him not reciprocating the feelings, the one that would leave you broken.
You leave the bathroom eventually to find the living room empty. He probably is in the kitchen feeding the kitties. So you lay down on the couch, taking your phone out to find a message from Minho.
My mean hoe: I'm outside.
My mean hoe: Come please.
My mean hie: The kitties are with me and we have a special surprise :)
You smile, leaving a comment with a smiley face, then turning your phone off. Putting your beanie on, one of the pairs of shoes you have at his, a scarf and one of his warmer jackets, you exit the apartment, not forgetting the keys. You take the elevator down and then you start searching for them. That's when you see the paw trail on the white snow and you recognize it as being Snowy's. Next to them are three other pairs of paw trails. Soonie, Doongie and Dori's. You follow them, curiosity written all over your face.
The trails get you to the Pawlicious café. But they can't be inside, the café is closed. So you just stay there, smiling in the direction of the table you firstly met Minho.
“Hey, lost kitty.” Minho says behind you, wrapping his arms around your waist. A blush creeps out on both of your faces, but none of you sees the other's face.
“Hi, pretty kitty.” You say, directing your gaze to Minho, only to see his red ears. ”Min?” You ask, thinking that his ears are freezing.
“Yeah?” He purrs.
“Are you cold? Your ears are red..?”
“I… am not.” He smiles and his arms hold you even tighter. “I… That's… uhm..”
“Hm.. they are hot.. so, you're not cold.” You notice.
“I.. I am not.” He whispers. “Hey, uhm, don't you want to know what your present is?” He asks, a smile slipping on his face.
You nod, smiling as well. He takes your hand and gets you behind the café. Your curious look makes Minho chuckle under his breath, but you immediately hit him - not enough to hurt him - and he stops, only remaining a smile. He puts a hand over your eyes, earning a huff from you.
“Shh, stay quiet for a bit.” He tells you.
Five minutes later, he takes his hand off your eyes. You are immediately met up with some beautiful lights, two cups of hot chocolate and a blanket on the little bench next to you. You smile, letting his hand slightly go as he stands right beside you.
“Min, you didn't have to-”
“Well, I mean… it's not entirely for you.” He jokes, rolling his eyes. “Uhm.. this is where I'll… Uhm.. Wait.” He looks around, finding Dori. He takes his cat in his arms and passes him to your arms. You smile as he purrs, but immediately notice a letter being attached to his collar.
”My dear Y/N,
I don't exactly know how to tell you this, but I have to be honest to you. Remember the day I sat at your table and then, we soon started talking. I wasn't a complete stranger to the café, to be honest. I've seen you one day and immediately liked you. Your gentleness, your way of doing things and your looks… You immediately put me under a spell. I want to thank you for all these years and I know that what I'm about to say might interfere with our friendship, but if I don't say it, I don't know how much longer I'll be able to bear it. I'm in love with you. there, I said it. I can't say exactly why, other than the pure reason that it's you. there's always a feeling I get whenever you're around me, whenever I feel your skin. I want to be your boyfriend and you to be my girlfriend. If you don't love me back - i know there might be a possibility because, afterall, it's you, the prettiest and kindest girl in the world - so ill change. i value our friendship way more than some feelings that might ruin this whole feeling.
With sincerity,
Minho”
“I love you too” You turn to look Minho in his eyes, voice barely higher than a whisper. He smiles and takes your cheeks into his hands.
“Can I..?” He asks for permission, making you nod. As fast as the confession happened, his lips landed on yours. The kiss was so affectionate that it made you both smile into it.

What your preferred Jasnah ships say about you
[Spoilers for Stormlight Archives through the KWOT preview chapters!]
Inspired in part by @moash's poll, let's consider people you might ship Jasnah with and what that says about you. It's all very scientific, I assure you. [Previously: Kaladin ships, Navani ships; also Moash ships by @cosmereplay]
Jasnah x Shallan You first developed your crush on Jasnah after seeing her described through Shallan's eyes, and now you feel like, if they could just kiss, well, it would be kinda like you're kissing Jasnah, right?
Jasnah x Wit That preview chapter made you feel a certain kind of way, huh? Either you're in it for the interesting and not-entirely-healthy dynamic, in which case you're pretty pleased, or you sincerely thought they were cute, in which case you're very worried.
Jasnah x Khriss You agree with Sanderson that Jasnah should date an ancient, incredibly knowledgeable, magic-obsessed World Hopper, but you disagree hardcore on the "heteroromantic" thing.
Jasnah x Kaladin You're cool with Jasnah being heteroromantic, but you'd prefer that she date someone else ace, so that they can connect more on an emotional level. But first, your fic needs to get Jasnah and Kaladin to see eye-to-eye...
Jasnah x Azure Smart sword ladies, yeah? A+, no notes.
Jasnah x Amarem Dude...why? Wait--I'm assuming Amarem is into Jasnah, like, walking over his naked back in very painful stilettos and Jasnah just wants to see how much torture she can get him to agree to, right? I dunno, man. Still messed up.
Jasnah x Lyn Yes, I've seen the theories that Lyn broke up with Kaladin for Jasnah and I agree, that would be hilarious.
Jasnah x Liss (the assassin she had on retainer) "They both like to hunt people down & kill them in cold blood!" you giggle, kicking your feet and doodling hearts around their names.
Jasnah x Aesudan "Hiring an assassin to spy on and/or potentially kill a woman is basically foreplay," you, a veteran of the Hannibal fandom, explain.
Jasnah x No one You don't need Jasnah to be shipped with anyone, thank you very much! You'd like to see her just be independent and awesome, and you cannot wait for her breakup arc.

Pockets Full of Gold
Characters: Thorin Oakenshield x town of Dale x dwarf company (Bilbo and Tauriel)
Fandom: The Hobbit - Richard Armitage
Lyn's Writing Event Day 6
Tumblr media
May 6th: Week 1: Leprechaun
Characters: Thorin x townsfolk of Dale x Dwarf company (including Tauriel and Bilbo)
Fandom: Thorin Oakenshield (HOBBIT) – Richard Armitage
(The character of Thorin Oakenshield was created by J.R.R. Tolkien)
Timeline: AU Post (BOFTA) – No one dies, everyone lives
Warnings: drunkenness, embarrassment, anxiety, disorientation, scorn, angst, unaidable hiccups, mild nudity, shape changing, leprechauns.
Word count: 2.1k
Disclaimer: I am aware that even in the AU this violates rules of Tolkien, so I am hoping the 2 ladies and guardians of this lore will forgive me a little prank story, because it is a little funny. Enjoy!
It was dusk, in Dale, the rebuilding was well underway, and part of the company was celebrating a workday well done. Thorin had been overseeing some of the reconstruction over Bard’s request. Bard offers the dwarf company ale and food to their fill for the evening. And of course, chaos ensues, this gives our prankster an opportunity to spike Thorin’s drink. (But who would want to embarrass or otherwise humiliate Thorin?) Bilbo steps away from the riotous eating, which he knew too well would end in a mess and walk out to the look out on the river leading to Lake Town.
Thorin was sitting watching the revelry and a wench set down some ale for him. He nodded at her and took a sip. Bofur winked at him and tipped his own ale to him, “To many more glasses of merriment” Bifur, Oin and Gloin, Nori and Dori and Fili also cheered. Kili was away towards the water with Tauriel, discussing plans for their new future. Thorin knew this would get out of hand if he didn’t stick around. Balin had already gone back to Erebor, leaving him to get his nephews and the rest of the company home. There wasn’t much to protect right now, and Thorin drank avidly letting the ale hit his palette and quench his thirst. He knew, now as King not to imbibe too much, but he was a dwarf that could hold his ale better than any man.
Bofur grabbed another tankard and set it before Thorin, “Come on brother, let’s have another!” Thorin looked at him, quizzically, “Are you trying to get your King drunk?” Bofur chuckled merrily, “No, I’m trying to get that grimace of your face, your far too serious” he chuckled, “Its nearly May day, spring has sprung!” Bofur started to sing and bang his fists on the table and the company joined in. Thorin sighed, at the end of the table and sipped again.
Bilbo came back into the inn, and sat next to Thorin, “So, Master Baggins, how long will you be staying with us?” Bilbo, nervously, “Oh, probably a few more weeks, ya?” Thorin finished his tankard and reached for the second one, a loud clatter from behind made him turn, and Bilbo moved across the table to grab some cheese off a platter, passing over Thorin’s tankard. Thorin looked back as he sat down. And started to drink the second tankard. He stood up to speak to the company, “I wanted to thank you all for working with the Children of Man, I know that we are a proud lot, and as your, official leader, I am confident we can maintain a fair relationship with them”. The company cheered again, creating others in the inn to reply in kind. Thorin sat down and spoke conspiratorially to Bilbo, “Master Baggins, do you think you can cover me, I, (burped audibly) need a moment outside”. Bilbo nodded, “of course, of course”.
Thorin rose and left the table, feeling a bit strange, but not drunk. He finished the second tankard and set it down on an empty table as he left the inn. The streets were darker now, alleyways stretched and bent in his vision. Thorin gripped the wall of a building, steadying himself, “I don’t *hic* feel well *hic*,” Then Thorin fell to his knees and passed out, landing face first.
---
No one passed that alleyway, and after some minutes Thorin groaned, and pushed himself back to rest on his knees. He looked at his hands and they were smaller, he was wearing a dark green coat, with intricate gold trim along the lapel and collar. He stood up and barely made the 4th brick, “What the –“ he murmured, and scratched his chin, only to find a thicker beard there, and a when he saw himself in the moon’s reflection of a puddle, he saw it his hair was reddened. Thorin hiccuped and put his hand to his face, “Oh, Dwalin,” muttering Khuzdul under his breath, “I’ll kill him”. His head throbbed and he couldn’t figure out why he was so short, so much shorter than he was when he passed out. He was also wearing dark green boots that had pointy toes, “This is nuts” he mumbled. And as he started to walk, he heard the jingle of coins and felt the weight of them in his pockets, “Oh no..” he muttered, and as he started to walk, he jingled, and hiccuped, and then jingled again, coins started to spill from his pockets, and he scrambled to quiet the sound and pick them up.
Two men ambled by, and nearly bumped into him, as he scrambled to grab a coin, the gold shone in the moonlight and flickering torches, “Hey what you got there little guy?” One asked, Thorin gritted his teeth up at him, “Woah! Nevermind” and they both walked swiftly away. Each step that Thorin took he made more and more noise, and gold coins still spilled out, leaving a trail behind him, “I’m going to kill him,” was all he said. Until some children peaked down from a window hearing the jingle, “Mama! Mama! Look it’s a leprechaun come to help us!” Thorin looked up, his fright palpable, “Oh no, Mahal" And several boisterous youth came bounding out of a hut and scooped him up shaking him wildly. Thorin hiccuped uncontrollably and shouted for them to set him down. They collected the coins and dropped him scurrying off. Thorin huffed, wiping off his pants and readjusting himself. His pockets felt lighter, and then suddenly refilled, weighing him down again, “Oh you’ve got to be kidding me”, he rolled his eyes.
Thorin attempted to make it back to the inn, but what would he do? How would he explain how he looked? Several more men and women came upon him, stooping down to his very small stature and inquiring to his gold. “You look like that King from the Mountain, is that where you got all that gold from little man?” Thorin gritted his teeth, “Surely” A women looked back at her husband, “Maybe this is his offering, a little lad that looks just like him, did the King have kids this quickly, or maybe he always had some tucked away”.  The women caressed Thorin’s scruffy beard and picked up some coins that were scattered around him, “Well don’t mind if I do your highness” She grinned and patted him on the head. Thorin hiccuped again, trying to quiet the queasiness in this stomach. He dug into his own pockets and threw handfuls of gold coins at the passersby. “Here! Just take it! I’m sick of this!” Thorin sounded like a petulant child to them with his shrunken form. But the more he emptied his pockets the more they refilled. And finally he just stormed off again towards the edge of the little lake, by the riverside.
Fili was walking back from the lake with Tauriel and stumbled past Thorin as he jingled and hiccuped heading towards the water, “Uncle?” Fili questioned. Thorin did not stop. He shucked the jacket, boots and pants and jumped headfirst into the river. Tauriel looked just as puzzled, “Was that Thorin?” Kili shrugged, “Sure looked like him, but why is his hair red, and look at these coins”, he picked up a handful. He picked up the clothes that Thorin had discarded, and more coins fell out of the pockets, “But well, to go the spoils, aye?” Tauriel rolled her eyes, “We should go after him, he seemed distressed”. Kili picked up more coins and pocketed them. Tossing the clothes back down on the walkway, “Right, right”. Kili’s sweet smile drooped when he saw Thorin wading in the water, at full size. The water was still cold and Thorin felt everything against his body, wearing only a shirt that hugged at his dwarven muscles. His diaphragm seized again, in hiccups, as he swam against the current of the river. Thorin pushed himself out of the water onto the fishing pier where Kili and Tauriel stood.
Thorin flopped onto the pier and Fili stood over him, Tauriel looked away as Thorin was naked from the waist down, “Uncle what happened?” Thorin groaned and put his hand out to be pulled up, Kili responded immediately. Taking off his coat and offering it to him, “Thank you”, the hiccups subsiding, his hair and beard back to normal. “I drank something I shouldn’t have”, he looked towards the Inn, “apparently”. Tauriel looked concerned, “A potion of some kind, you looked like a Leprechaun, a faeish creature of the West”. Kili looked at her, “Do you think your kin did this to humiliate him?”  Tauriel looked shaken, “Oh my no, must have been someone around here, but who bears ill will towards you?” Thorin started to walk with them, back towards the Inn, “Only my men, and half the town, of course”. Tauriel looked embarrassed, “But surely not after you have made good on your claims to restore the towns”. Thorin smirked, “It doesn’t take much, you of all kind should know how fickle men can be”. Kili huffed, “Come on, don’t say that, I’m sure it was something harmless, a prank, maybe”. It is nearing May Day, we usually celebrate in surprising ways. Thorin looked down at him, “Well then maybe I should strip you down to your bares and let you dance under the full moon is that it?” Kili’s shoulders’ drooped, “I didn’t mean it like that,” Thorin ruffed up his hair, and hugged his shoulder warmly, “I’m kidding, kadan”, Kili warmed as they entered the inn.
Bilbo saw Thorin first and rushed over to him, “Thorin, my god! What happened?”  Thorin looked at him, eyes softening, “I would like to know, Master Baggins”. His smirk faded as Bofur turned towards him, “Oh.. look who decided to come back! And what pray tell has happened to your clothes?”  bangs on the table, “Look men, he's been robbed by a wee lass off the piers now,” Thorin gritted his teeth again at Bofur, and clamped his hand on his collar, lifting him to his face, “Did you do this to me?” Bofur put his hands up, “Never, never would I, I swear it”. Dwalin was keeping to the shadows, and he stood, approaching Thorin. Thorin looked to Dwalin an accusation at his lips, Dwalin cut him off, “I did not, my King, either”. Thorin set Bofur back down on the floor.
Thorin spoke to the company, “Does anyone know who put something in my ale?” The rest of the company was silent and looked contrite. Bilbo was still standing a few feet from Thorin, looking down, and mumbling. Thorin turned to Bilbo, “Did you do it?” his anger rising again, “You little pest!” Bilbo put his hands up, “Thorin I can explain, it was a,” Thorin grabbed him up by his shoulders and lifted him off the floor. “Don’t you realize what could have happened if I remained that way for longer than I had, do you?” Bilbo tried his best to explain in his soft tones, but all he could do was start to chuckle. Thorin’s eyes shifted from anger, to something akin to understanding as he set Bilbo back down to the floor. “You really are a pest you know that, what was that about anyways”. Bilbo, “Happy May Day?” he offered. And got a fresh tankard of ale. Thorin looked at him, “And what is this one going to do to me?” Bilbo’s eyes went wide as the King under the Mountain gulped it down strongly and wiped his mouth off with his sleeve. He let out a battle worthy cry, and slapped Bofur on the back, starting to sing along, “Come on, there once was a man..” then stomped his feet, still pants-less in the inn. Within a few moments Dwalin brought him some spare clothes from his saddle bag. Bilbo sat down, wiping the sweat off his brow, nervously as Tauriel stepped to him, “That was pretty risky, Bilbo, what was your plan?”  Bilbo placed his handkerchief back in his vest pocket, “Oh I just wanted him to feel smaller and maybe spread some cheer around”. Tauriel looked at him, “But why, he is your friend is he not?”
Bilbo looked at her, “yes of course, and sometimes in brotherly love we all need to be taught humility”. He chuffed, and she stood proudly again, “I see, well, your lucky that Thorin respects and cares for you, that you can play such pranks on him”. Bilbo looked at Thorin again, clothed and merry, “I am indeed yes, he is a good dwarf, as well as a good leader, I will remember that”. Tauriel spoke to him as she watched Kili and Thorin dance arm in arm, “But I see what you mean about him being so serious. Its nice to see him smiling with his kin”. Bilbo looked up to, “Yes, yes it is".
THE END.
Hope you all enjoyed.

@coolprofessorbagelwinner replied to your post “some recent ninjago arts first one is the skulkin...”:
Whoa!! Tell me about your bikers
OK so i don't know where the idea came from here, i just wanted a biker gang, and i don't have as many lady characters as i do dudes-i hyper focus in on fictional men way too easily its a problem-so i figured i should make em all ladies(or woman adjacent) to combat that problem.
Then i designed Vlatka and fell in love LOL
Tumblr media
So Vlatka(the long haired one) is the gangs leader, she has no special powers, shes a complete normie. But she knows the criminal underworld of Ninjago City well, and has been a thief and enforcer for years. The gang comes about as a result of her needing to pay off some debt, and a bunch of ladies she's worked with in the past-who all love her-join her to help out.
Then they get a taste for it, and keep going, then they get into a lot of trouble with a true big bad. They arent necessarily "villains" but they start off antagonistic-the ninja don't understand how a biker gang is giving them so much trouble its kind of embarrassing lol
The lady with short hair and the eyepatch is Rory, who is Vlatka's longtime girlfriend :3
Tumblr media
She likes guns and wears a mask on the job that allows her one useable eye infrared or x-ray vision-depending on the setting. Vlatka carries a small grappling hook to get around when not on her bike, and relies on seat of her pants decisions when fighting up close.
The other members either only have an initial lego art done, or no art yet as im still working on that ;u;
Next up is Eda
Tumblr media
Eda is a bit younger then the others-and on top of that has a very young face, and short build. She serves as the groups main Muscle-because. well. she has a huge battle arm. Eda's entire idea was "BIG ARM GO SLAM" and i think thats rather fun. You're going to notice that i have not put time yet into fleshing out all these characters oops
I feel like Eda would be fun as someone with a bodyguard dad who she hero worshipped and decided "well i can do that job too" and just. replaced an arm to make her more formidable. like a freak.
Tumblr media
Lyn is a singer at her employers bar, her playful outside is complimented by a vicious streak of tearing other people down to make sure she keeps this job(gaslight gatekeep girlboss). The microphone trinket around her neck heightens and amplifies her voice to allow sonic screams that tear through walls and shred peoples eardrums.
Tumblr media
Janet is where the lady adjacent part comes in, she's nonbirary and prefers she/they pronouns. They serve as the teams "guy in the chair" of sorts, staying behind to monitor Maps and how the team is handling it's missions. Her prosthetic eye allows them gps locating and searching right from in her head! They're a little no nonsense, being a corporate person herself who's actively a higher up in a tech company.
Tumblr media
Briona, or Bri as she prefers is the expert on Breaking and Entering, Scaling buildings, and really just getting in and out of tricky spots. She wanted to be an archaeologist in her youth but wanted to keep everything she dug up and took to crime instead. She's eternally miffed to some degree and will swear up and down that she's only in this gang because she "owes" Vlatka. She's a big softy who loves all her teammates underneath.
Tumblr media
The last biker is Torelei, an honest to god Elemental Master from an influential family. It's her uncle the team gets into hot water with. She feels responsible and pulls away emotionally from the others in response. She's the Elemental Master of Reflection. She chooses to take this literally as a Mirror Reflection(and not the other ways it could be interpreted that she's also totally capable of), and it's because of her that the girlies are able to avoid pursuit so easily. She fights with a metal fan.
(thank you for the compliment in the other reply <3)

I’ve always wondered how Sansa would leave the Vale. Will it be during the tourney? After the tourney? Will the mountain clans get to her and she escapes from them? Does ser shadrich get her?
And then there’s LF. I believe in the theory that Harold will be killed at the tourney, leaving LF to open the door for him marrying sansa herself. (That could be what “wakes her,”). On top of that, LF has been m*lesting her with his kisses 🤢Is there foreshadowing that he’ll go farther before Sansa escapes? If so, how far should we brace ourselves. I’m very fearful about it ngl
I think he's set enough of a precedent with previous tournaments (Harrenhal, Ashford, Hand's tourney), that it's safe to assume whatever is about to happen will happen during the tournament and not after.
I still don't have a cohesive theory, but I know the following:
You don't introduce Ser Shadrich to the story unless you intend on using him.
There's probably a reason the author gifted Brienne the knowledge of Ser Shadrich's appearance and objective, followed by an assessment of her ability to fight him.
If it was Ser Shadrich dogging her heels, she might well have a fight on her hands. She did not intend to partner with the man or let him follow her to Sansa. He had the sort of easy arrogance that comes with skill at arms, she thought, but he was small. I'll have the reach on him, and I should be stronger too.
[...]
"Men will always underestimate you," he said, "and their pride will make them want to vanquish you quickly, lest it be said that a woman tried them sorely." She had learned the truth of that once she went into the world. Even Jaime Lannister had come at her that way, in the woods by Maidenpool. If the gods were good, the Mad Mouse would make the same mistake. He may be a seasoned knight, she thought, but he is no Jaime Lannister. She slid her sword out of its scabbard. - Brienne II, AFFC
In her second chapter, George essentially lays out Brienne's journey: she will initially be led astray (for the right reasons), but will backtrack.
The Wall was too far, surely, and a bleak and bitter place besides. And to reach Riverrun the girl would need to cross the war-torn riverlands and pass through the Lannister siege lines. The Eyrie would be simpler, and Lady Lysa would surely welcome her sister's daughter . . .
Ahead, the alley bent. Somehow Brienne had taken a wrong turn. She found herself in a dead end, a small muddy yard where three pigs were rooting round a low stone well.
"I was looking for the Seven Swords."
"Back the way you come. Left at the sept."
"I thank you." Brienne turned to retrace her steps, and walked headfirst into someone hurrying round the bend.
We have every reason in the world to believe we will see Gulltown.
Brienne contemplates going to Gulltown roughly 34 times.
"Gulltown next," her captain told her, "thence around the Fingers to Sisterton and White Harbor, if the storms allow. She's a clean ship, 'Strider, not so many rats as most, and we'll have fresh eggs and new-churned butter aboard. Is m'lady seeking passage north?"
"No." Not yet. She was tempted, but . . .
Towards the end of ASOS and all throughout AFFC, George places excessive emphasis on how bold the mountain clans have become.
Sansa has identified Lyn Corbray as a problem, and Nostradamus is always right.
If I had to guess, I would say Lyn Corbray does something (Nostradamus), Harry is badly wounded or dies (à la Hugh of the Vale, and Humphrey Hardyng), Ser Shadrich seizes the opportunity to grab Sansa (2 + 2 = 4), and Brienne will have to intercept (because I said so).
I realize that doesn't sound possible, given Brienne's current location and injuries, but Alayne I is happening a long time after Jaime is brought to LSH.
Unfortunately, I couldn't even guess how characters like Myranda, Yohn, Lothor, and Timmet factor into all of this.
As for Littlefinger, I totally understand your fear, and I agree it's blatantly obvious his actual intention is to marry Sansa, but I'm hopeful we won't see her alone with him in the Vale for much longer. The pot is boiling over.

ghost/supernatural being concepts I would like to see
ghost of a YouTuber that died during a haunted house exploration video
• the funny thing is that the house was never haunted in the first place, but since the guy died it is now indeed, haunted,
• yes it is some 20 year old white guy with a million+ subs who talks like mister beast.
• legend has it that visitors who come to the haunted house see those stupid Mister Beast type Captions when they look in the mirror, usually they say something along the lines of “subscribe for a free trampoline” and “use code ILOVEMINORS for 50% on some expired cheese”
•he usually appears with a broken camera and bad lighting, scaring away visitors with the spookiest thing of all, Random Street Interviews.
•cause of death? That’s up for debate, I think maybe one of his lighting fixtures fell on top of him while he was filming the fake haunt
• misogynist, doesn’t appear for female ghost hunters >:(
• he has a podcast called “deathly triggering” and it’s the typical alpha male podcast, but he just talks about all the lady ghosts he tries to hit on and how they have such high standards and everyone just thinks he’s a really good method actor
Ghost of a 1970s female country singer
•needless to say, she’s a milf
• personally I love old country, so I’d be safe from her anger. But if you came on to her property and said “man I hate country, it’s all about trucks and girls and whatever” she would run you ever with a ghost horse.
• she died and haunts an old ranch somewhere in southern America, and if you listen very closely, you can hear Loretta Lyn playing over a broken radio
• she killed all three of her husbands because they were not very nice, which caused her execution. She is vengeful of men specifically, and if a poor girl stumbles upon her house she will usually take pity upon her
•will immediately kill any man who slightly offends a woman. •if somehow a little girl ends up in the old house, she will usually come out unharmed, a new stuffed animal (usually a horse or dog), braided hair, vintage cowgirl boots, and a dolly patron cassette.
they live in the same town
thanks for listening to my yapping :3

I'd love to hear about First Meetings and The Witch in the Woods from that WIP ask game!!
Thanks for the ask! (from this ask game)
First Meetings:
Info:
The first part of the scene is actually already up on tumblr! You can find that >>here. It's (currently) the opening scene for Fallen Breath, a story about a Lawful Good(tm) detective and a probably insane sailor lady investigating the supernatural curse that's sweeping through Santa Juliana. The idea already existed but it got solidified and made A Thing by Inklings Challenge 2022.
So this scene would be the first time they met, and also the hook for the mystery (Julia has info and she wants Crispin's help because he's not affiliated with the Detective's Guild, unlike most private investigators).
Snippet (this is from the document, after the scene on tumblr):
The day drew to a close, the black darkness of night smothering everything until the streetlights struggled to stay alight. Further toward the middle of Santa Juliana, loud peals from the belltower marked the time. 1800hs.  Crispin shrugged. Maybe she’d had to stay overnight in the hospital.  Turning up the collar of his coat and shoving his hat over his mop of red-gold curls—wondering wistfully if maybe the darkness meant it’d be socially acceptable to not wear a hat—he went out to call a cab for Ms. Hallifax, then began locking up. It didn’t take long.  For all that the monstrous and skeletal building of bronze and glass was large and sprawling, there weren’t many rooms and, consequently, not many doors. Most of them were on the second story, anyway, and there were only two stairways to that.  Clicking the locking mechanism closed and shoving the fold-key into his pocket, he thought for the twentieth time that week that it was time he got to cleaning the multitude of windows. Sometimes he regretted not having thought about that when he bought the place. Maybe that had been why it was so cheap; either that or the fact that it was constantly falling apart.
The Witch in the Woods:
Info:
This is a slightly different kind of project, since it's an AU of my ocs, but also it's canon. It gets complicated but (spoilers) basically a thing happens where reality gets fragmented and as a result a bunch of AUs happen with different versions of and different storylines for the four core Rifters (Kathryn, Benn, Lyn, and Zo).
In this AU, the "Assassin AU," it takes place in a more medieval fantasy setting. Benn and Kathryn didn't come in and shut down the assassin program run by the government (well, its equivalent in this world), so Zo is never rescued out of that. Benn has disappeared, Kathryn is hiding in the woods because she's become bitter, and Lyn never gets friends who care about her and take care of her, so she's just fully letting the depression win.
The story for this timeline gets kickstarted when Zo is sent to assassinate Lyn (who, in every universe, knows far too much), and for the first time comes face to face with someone who *wants* him to kill them. This is too weird and intriguing and Wrong, so he refuses to kill her (to her frustration). Instead, he goes rogue and starts figuring out why she's supposed to be dead, dragging her along for the ride until she learns that life is worth living, and he learns to have a moral compass. They also meet Kathryn and Benn along the way :)
This scene takes place when Zo goes back to his "guild," expecting to find help after his clients double-crossed him, only to find out that, no, yeah, his guild also wants Lyn to be dead. His mentor tries to make it a lesson in "don't get attached to people--you're an assassin so you're supposed to be Smarter Than That," but Zo has gotten a Friend now and doesn't fall for it. They make it out, barely, but Lyn is mortally wounded, and they need help, now. So there's this borderline eldritch witch in the nearby woods that his guild has always feared and avoided, but like, he's left them, so, uh, maybe it could be a good idea to ask her for help.
Snippet:
“Go.” Lyn waved a weak hand at him. “I’ll be here when you get back.”  He set his jaw, curling his fingers around one of his knives, and set out deeper into the woods.  It was darker, more silent than ever, the tree trunks crowded closer, the roots more knobbed and scattered under foot, making walking more difficult and uncomfortable. But he wasn’t going far, anyway.  He unsheathed the oak-wood dagger he’d swiped on his way out of the castle--polished, worn, carved with letters he couldn’t read. He knew what they said, though. It was the title of the person he was summoning, and he remembered it clearly; it had been the day Julian had told him to never go into the woods. Fitting, then, that it'd be one of the first places he went after cutting ties. On one hand, the fact that he had stolen a magic artifact from the castle meant that [people from the castle] would definitely be after him, but on the other, it wasn’t like they were going leave him or Lyn alone anyway. He hadn’t told Lyn what he was planning to do, and unease churned in his gut. No matter which legend held truth, this was probably a stupid move. It wasn’t like he had anything to offer in return, and he was the last person who’d be able to appeal to someone’s humanity. Not that he’d really tried yet, but there was also the doubt as to whether or not whatever was here was human.  This was a fool’s hope, certainly.  But desperation had certainly made a fool of him.
(and one more because I couldn't resist)
The girl tilted her head, cloak fluttering about her in a wind he didn’t feel. “And why do you think I will do what you ask? Last I heard, the rumors were that I was a monster.” “Because those aren’t the only legends, are they?” He hoped Lyn was right. “At least that’s what she believes. That the old tales of a being who traveled throughout the land, in this region specifically, and gave aid to those who needed it.”  “Oh?” Her eyes narrowed. “Why is that me?” “I…  don’t know exactly.” He bit back his growing frustration with an effort. “Something about the legends ceasing around the time you showed up here, or some of the characteristics being the same. It’s not really my area of expertise.” “No, it wouldn’t be,” she said thoughtfully. She didn't sound judgmental, but, considering her earlier vague remarks about “Castle people,” Zo felt his efforts to check his irritation failing rapidly. “So what are you going to do?” Zo asked.  “Avoid history repeating itself,” she said.  The cloak fluttered a little more, and she vanished.

wind across the plains | blade lord
Your name is Lyn and you are your father's daughter. He is the chieftain of the Lorca, as well as your sword instructor. He is a reticent man, like the rest of the men in your tribe, but you admire him like no one else. One day, you hope to be even half as masterful as your father not only at the sword, but the bow as well.
Your name is Lyndis and you are your mother's daughter. She is gentle and graceful as the winds dancing over the plains on a summer night. You don't think yourself to compare to her beauty, but when you're older, people will look at you and think the same things of you.
Your name is Lyn and you are no one's daughter, because your family is gone. In one night, the only community you've ever known is reduced to corpses. You're a fool for thinking the others would follow you. You were your father's daughter, after all.
For six terribly lonely months, Lyn is all you are.
After a chance meeting in Bulgar, you reclaim a name you never thought you would hear again, only this time a title is attached: Lady Lyndis. Your mother had been the noble lady of Caelin and now you are the Marquess of Caelin's only granddaughter. Your quest for revenge against the Taliver bandits can wait for the time being.
You cling to this information like a lifeline; you have family left and he wants to meet you.
Filthy mongrel, the nobles sneer at you. They denounce you as an imposter — no real noble lady of Caelin would have her blood tainted with that of Sacae.
Despite this, your knights (your friends), your little ragtag team of mercenaries, unfailingly address you as their lady. Even if no one else will, they treat you with respect. They follow your orders and those of the enigmatic tactician by your side without question.
It's not until you stand covered in the blood of your granduncle that you can finally meet your grandfather. A sudden fear grips you. What if it's already too late? What if he doesn't recognize you? What if he too, upon finally seeing you, doesn't want a girl with Sacaen blood as his granddaughter?
"Thank you for living," is what he tells you, feeble body holding you tight, shaking with the effort of sitting upright.
You're so glad. You're glad to be alive. You're glad that he's alive. You're glad that your name is Lyndis.
For your grandfather, you will be Caelin's princess. You will cut down anyone who thinks to harm the last family you have. You will put aside the yearning in your heart for the plains so long as your grandfather still draws breath.
Only one year of happiness is all you can afford before your life is once again overturned by something greater than you. As much strife as it causes you, you must leave your grandfather behind to travel with two of the other Lycian lords.
Lyndis, is how the mild-mannered Pheraen boy calls you. Before meeting him, you had thought poorly of the nobles who had turned their backs on you for your heritage. Now, you look at him and see what a noble should be. Even in the face of his own tragedies, he holds his head high and pushes onward. He has not just strength of heart, but unfailing kindness, as well.
Lyn, is how the brash Ostian boy calls you. He is reckless and dependent on his raw strength; a threat to both himself and allies. You see yourself, before you had allowed people back into your heart, in him and you cannot stop yourself from quarreling with him. The two of you are far too similar at heart or perhaps you're just jealous that he's stronger than you are.
Lyn.
Lyndis.
Daughter of Roland.
Daughter of Hanon.
You are your father's daughter. You will wield both sword and bow to protect those that are dear to you.
You are your mother's daughter. You were born with the power to lead, regardless of what others think of you. You are the lady of Caelin.

For the asks.
Color My Mind, Bring Me Back The memory loss concept is fkkn brilliant and I love it!!! 💖Damn, I wish I would of thought of that! 😭
It's one of the best fics I've read. Love it!!!
I didn’t reblog the ask game-thing but of course I’ll still answer this Lyn my darling!
As for a fact about the fic:
Until Aemond screams at Lady Lannister to call him his name instead of ‘lord husband’ or ‘your grace’, he’s never referred to as only ‘Aemond’ in the story, since it’s from her perspective. The language describing him is never really familiar because she doesn’t feel familiar with him.
Thank you for indulging me, I love talking about fics 🥰

Defendant
Short story featuring @sm-baby's Piece by Piece world, Prosecutor Weiss and my oc, Kay.
Right after the court battle.
A/N: this idea has just been bouncing around for a minute and I wanted to indulge my own writing :] it's only like 300 or so words
~~♤~~♡~~◇~~♧~~
The case had ended.
The jury placed their verdict.
Hushed chatter echoed in the courtroom as the defending lawyer held her head in defeat.
Weiss put on his hat and made his way toward the door.
As he exited, the guard at the door cleared her throat.
He kept his head down, hoping to avoid exess conflict.
"Prosecutor."
He sighed. "...yes, captain?"
Kay frowned. "I won't try to convince you of anything. It would be out of place for me to have done such anyway." She sighed. "Please...do not pass judgement on Lady Lyn for what has happened today. She's defending a guilty cause...but not by choice. She doesn't want to be involved in this. None of us do, really."
She shook her head. "Please, don't misunderstand. I'm not asking you to pity her." She let out a sad chuckle, half-smiling. "She'd probably kill me if that were the case. Matter of fact, if she found out I was saying any of this, she'd ignore me for weeks." She smiled a bit more. "Lyn is the strongest woman I've ever met."
Weiss raised an eyebrow. "Is that so? A knight, one of the kingdom's captains, no less, commending the strength of a pawn? I'm impressed."
Kay nodded. "I mean it, though, truly. She fought, tooth and nail, worked her way up from nothing, to get to where she is. We met when we were children....and even then, she was just as determined and strong as she is now. To call it admirable is a severe understatement."
She sighed. "I dont wish to waste any more time. But you're a respectable man, and I'm sure you know innocence and insight when you see it. All I hope to ask..."
She looked at the pawn still knelt on the court floor.
"Please, don't hate her for what she's been forced to defend."
Weiss looked at the captain, back to his opponent, then simply let out a thoughtful hum as he walked out the door.
"We shall see."

Support System - Sain/Florina
This is just something I did for fun, because I really like the idea of Sain and Florina having a support, and it’d be nice if more of Sain’s supports ended with him being friends with them. I always imagined Sain as a ‘Knight in Shining Armor’ type, when he’s not relentlessly hitting on women, based on his ending. I think a character like Florina would bring that part out of him.
Not intended to be romantic, but if you wish to read it like that, that’s also fine.
C Support
Sain: Oh Florina, your hair is as colorful and as beautiful as a summer Liliac, your eyes a sparkling Oasis!
Florina: W-why thank you Sain, but I must be going…
Sain: Must you? Can you not spare me a few minutes of your time, so that I may continue to serenade you?
Florina: No I-
Sain: I only wish to speak of your subtle, yet captivating beauty, your voice blesses me like that of an angel!
*moves closer*
Florina: Ahhhhh!
*runs away*
Sain: Oh…
B Support
Florina: Oh h-hello again Sain, I have to go-
*begins to move away*
Sain: Wait, hold on! I would just like to say one thing before a Fair Maiden like you leaves me once again!
Florina: O-okay, just… take a few steps back… please.
Sain: Of course, I shall move 30 paces away from you, I can move farther back, if you would like?
Florina: No that is… that is fine.
Sain: Splendid! I would just like to say I apologize, for frightening you. I spoke with Lady Lyndis and… I overstepped
Florina: S-sain, it’s fine, just-
Sain: Do not cover for my folly! I am Sain, a Knight of Caelin! I chase after women because they are beauty incarnate, not because I wish for them to flee!
Florina: O-of course I just… when y-you’re so forward I feel… s-scared.
Sain: Those words are a stake upon my heart! By my honor as a knight, as long as you forgive me, I promise to never make you uncomfortable again!
Florina: Okay, I… I forgive you just… please d-don’t be so loud.
A Support
Sain: Greetings my lov- Florina… is this distance too close?
Florina: Oh! H-hello Sain, no this… this distance is fine. I’m s-sorry you need to walk around eggshells with me, i-it must be frustrating…
Sain: Oh nonsense! What type of Knight would I be if I brought fear to a Maiden?
Florina: Y-you’re much too generous for one such as me, I’m only being an inconvenience…
Sain: Don’t say such things! You’re far from an inconvenience! I shan’t mention your wondrous beauty, but your amazing traits hardly end at your appearance! I would be heartbroken to see you think yourself an inconvenience!
Florina: Amazing traits?
Sain: But of course! Your skill in the lance goes without saying, as does the way you command your Pegasus, but most notable of all is your impressive bravery!
Florina: My b-bravery? D-don’t give me such hollow compliments!
Sain: This is far from a hollow statement! It is easy for me to be brave, I was blessed with the skill and good fortune to be a knight of Caelin, I feel no fear in the face of battle. But you? Even more impressive than I is that you charge forward in spite of your fears!
Florina: That’s ridiculous… I’ve at times been so terrified that I’m tempted to flee…
Sain: Ah but you don’t! Instead of that you face your foes head on! Even now you’re speaking to me instead of cowering away, and soon after you’ll be skewering a foe on the edge of your lance with the skill of a seasoned veteran! You’re one of the bravest women I’ve had the pleasure of meeting, Florina.
Florina: …You sure have a lot to s-say about me…
Ending-
Once Lyn abdicated Caelin to Ostian rule, Sain resigned his commission and moved to Illia. There he began to work with Florina as a mercenary. While her fear of men still remained, Sain came to be one of her most trusted friends in the years to come.

Note
a kiss to convince the other to stay :)
//fe7 endgame au; sain has informed his lord that he wishes to resign from her service
"...!"
If there was ever a point in Sain's life where he failed Lady Lyndis as her knight, it's this very moment. Her kiss--the final reward of her lips pressed desperately against his--flips him inside out. Makes him a new man. Reverses everything he's ever stood for as Caelin's coolest casanova. He can't fulfill his duty to love her, to worship every inch of her body as though it were a masterpiece of its own. He cannot kiss her back; his jaw doesn't move. He is too stunned by the truth and shackled by the accursed knowledge that this isn't real to return any of her embrace. His hands remain at his side, clamped up and trembling--dreading the moment this would end.
Could he die now? So that his rest-laid soul might believe for eternity that they shared something genuine?
Reality is not so kind. She pulls away, slowly, and verbose Sain finds himself at a loss for words. Thousands of thoughts swarm through his head like a packed market square, but only fragments are vocalized, "Ahh... Lady Lyndis, you..." didn't mean that. "I can't..." stay with you. "Ah! m-my heart," it hurts, knowing what it can't ever have.
She would never understand.
He doesn't just want her in his arms like any old village girl; a simple kiss couldn't sway his heart. Lyn is different. Sain wants to be by her side, truly, till the end of his days. He wants to grow old with her, share memories and sweet words and food made from love. To wake up in the morning and see her gentle smile, to know that he--Sain--is her world: a vital part of her life she couldn't live without.
And it is that desire that burns an ever-gaping hole into his heart. He cannot fill it, not with his dedicated service, not with the wondrous smiles of the army's finest women. Ostia sounds nice, sure, but its beauty is tarnished by Sain's fate as 'just her knight'.
So he won't budge on his choice to leave. He has to grow into a new man, cast a new mold around his broken heart so that he may live in peace. Traveling on his own he might find someone new, and perhaps, succeed where he had once failed.
He strokes her cheek with the back of his finger, using a smile to fight off an onslaught of burning tears.
"My fair liege... I cannot be yours anymore. Castle life is ill-suited to one such as I, who must roam free in search of glory." It's the best excuse he can come up with, "Do not think of me as leaving. I'm a bird you must let fly through the open air, lest my wings begin to fail me."
He takes her hand into his, bringing it close to his chin for one last kiss. He hasn't earned another against her face.
"Thank you... For everything. Look after Kent for me, okay?"

Chapter 10: New Resolve (Section 1)
After their long search, Eliwood finally reunited with his father.
However, at that very same time, he also had to say goodbye.
He and his allies had now escaped from the Dread Isle, returned to the port city of Badon, and sought out an inn to rest their tired bodies.
After taking some time to rest at the inn, Lyn approached Ninian, who had been freed from Nergal’s spell and returned to her normal, calm self. “...Ninian, are you feeling better?”
“Yes…”
“Really…? That’s great!” She said, but anyone could see the worry in Lyn's eyes as she looked at Ninian.
Ninian was sitting in a chair with a dispirited expression on her face, so sad that it hurt just to look at her.
While still keeping her eye on Ninian, Lyn turned towards Nils. “...Long time, no see, Nils. You’ve gotten bigger!”
“Is it really you, Lady Lyn? Seeing you brings me back!” Nils said with a smile on his face.
“Even though only a year has passed?’
“...A lot has happened since we parted ways.”
“Hey, tell us what happened, too!” Hector cut in, as he knew nothing at all about Ninian and Nils.
But having his warm reunion interrupted annoyed Nils, even if only slightly. “Who’re they?” He asked, his face twisted into a pout.
While looking at him with a pained smile on her face, Lyn introduced Hector. “He’s Hector, the younger brother of Marquess Ostia. He’s got a bit of a mouth,  but… he’s a surprisingly good guy.”
“You could have just said I’m a good guy!”
“And you probably remember him. He’s…”
Lyn started to introduce Eliwood, but Nils said “I remember,” went over to him, and looked up at him. “You’re Lord Elbert’s son, right? Your red hair, kind blue eyes, and voice… are all the same as his were.”
“...Where did you meet my father?” Eliwood asked, forcing himself to act calm.
Though he was still in shock over his father’s death, he wanted to avoid showing it and worrying his friends. Still, despite his best efforts, it was written all over his face that he was trying to keep his overwhelming emotions bottled up.
Hector and Lyn of course both noticed that, but out consideration for his feelings, they could not even mention the subject.
“At the… Dragon’s Gate. After we were captured, he helped us escape…” Nils began to explain everything they had experienced until this point.
Thanks to Elbert, he and Ninian were able to escape from the Dragon’s Gate. Then, he found a small boat docked at the shrine that the Black Fang had used, and escaped to the seas.
But the high waves caused Nils to fall into the sea.
“When I came to… I was back on the Valor Isle. After that, I was alone all this time… I hid in the ruins on the isle. Then… I suddenly sensed a great danger, and rushed to the Dragon’s Gate… where I saw everything."
“...Nils.” Ninian’s expression became darker still.
“When we saved Ninian on our ship… she had lost her memory. Even after you both worked so hard to escape, we brought her back here, of all places… It was completely foolish of me to do that. …I’m sorry.” Lyn apologized.
'If I hadn’t insisted on bringing Ninian with us, then…' Lyn thought that it was all because of her decision that this happened, and her expression was one of deep regret.
Seeing Lyn like that made Ninian shake her head no. "...Lady Lyn. You didn't do anything wrong… When Nils fell into the sea, I… didn't know what I should do… and closed off my heart. If I had just kept myself together, then… all of this could have been avoided… I… apologize…"
"...Ninian's power is stronger than mine, but in exchange, her heart and body are that much weaker. …Nergal took advantage of that…" Nils explained.
Everything after that was the same as Eliwood and his army had witnessed.
For a moment, silence fell over them.
A ray of light coming through the window bathed them in a vermillion glow.
They all thought back on their experience at the shrine, and were overwhelmed by their complex feelings, a mixture of anger, fear, and sadness.
Eliwood was the first to break this silence. "...They were targeting you two because… you have the power to summon dragons?"
"...To be exact, you could say that we have the power to open the Dragon’s Gate. If he just wanted to summon dragons, Nergal could do that himself."
"You're kidding." Hector’s eyes widened at Nils' answer.
"...But however he does it, he needs a lot of quintessence."
"Quintessence?" Lyn asked, having never heard the word before.
"That's what Nergal called it. It is the strength of a person’s heart, their will to live. Nergal steals this quintessence from them."
"What happens to the people who have their quintessence stolen?" Hector asked.
"...They die soon after…"
Eliwood understood. That in that moment, his father had his quintessence stolen… and it was the cause of his death.
"It's not that Ninian and I are particularly powerful. Lyn knows as well that all we have is our special power… So Nergal needs a very large amount of quintessence. That is why he first had Ephidel, his right hand man, get close to the greedy Marquess Laus and plant a seed of war across Lycia in his heart."
"...For what purpose did he do that?" Quintessence and war. Lyn asked about them, not knowing how the two were connected.
"The strength of one's quintessence is completely different from person to person. Those with a strong heart and body seem to have several hundred times more quintessence than that of the average person. But the number of people with such great quintessence is small… Nergal was always saying that finding them would be too much trouble. …And that though it would take much work, the best way to gather quintessence would be to cause a war…"
"...So he intended to start a civil war and gather quantity over quality!? Curse him! How dare he think so little of our country!!" Hector's anger could not have been greater.
For his own ambitions, Nergal hadn’t hesitated for even a moment to start a war. He was a man most dangerous and sinister.
Nils continued, "...Ephidel brought Lord Elbert to the Dragon's Gate, saying he'd found someone that possessed ideal quintessence… Nergal was very pleased to reduce his efforts in starting a war. Because he gathered a lot of quintessence from the knights with Lord Elbert, and even stronger quintessence from Lord Elbert himself, he…"
"Nils!" Lyn cut Nils off.
Nils realized why she did so, and quickly apologized to Eliwood. "Ah, my apologies… Lord Eliwood."
"It's fine… When I found Father at the Dragon's Gate, I knew that his soldiers… probably weren't alive anymore…"
The unit of knights that had gone missing with Elbert was Pherae's best. Even before Eliwood and his allies arrived on the Dread Isle, they'd already had their quintessence stolen from them and breathed their last.
Though he'd feared such an outcome, Eliwood initially decided he would be ready to accept it.
But that was all meaningless now. They would never return home. Neither would his father…
He'd desperately tried to hide his anguish until now, but his face finally darkened.
Nils said to him, "...Lord Elbert said that he had a son. Who despite his great talent with the sword, hates war… And has a kind heart that can understand people's pain, so he will become an even greater marquess than himself…"
As he remembered each thing Elbert told him one-by-one, Nils continued, "If it meant that Lycia, the land where his family lived, would become embroiled in the flames of war… then even if he had to sacrifice himself, he would do whatever it took to stop it…"
"...He…" His father’s resolution left Eliwood at a loss for words.
"We had lost all hope of survival at the Dragon’s Gate… but he always talked so cheerfully to us. He spoke only of his beautiful wife and son he was so proud of, but Ninian and I… we both loved him. His stories about his family… gave us great courage."
His father had been a truly honorable man, and done whatever it took to be kind to the siblings and form a bond with them. If telling Eliwood that would at the very least console him… then Nils wanted to share everything he could, and that was why he talked about Elbert.
"F… Father…" Though Eliwood thought he had no more tears to cry, his eyes watered again.
As Nils talked, his memories of his father came back to him one by one, and made his chest feel tight.
But he couldn't. He couldn't cry right here, right now.
Eliwood was trying as hard as he could to keep his sadness contained.
Hector realized that and whispered to Lyn, "We should leave him alone for now…"
"...We should. Let's go Ninian, Nils."
"...Yes."
As they were all leaving the room out of consideration for Eliwood, Ninian paused where she stood for a moment, and looked at him.
His body, shoulders shaking, were reflected in her sad ruby-like eyes.
