New Year's Ask Game for Fic Writers 🤍

I was tagged by a couple of pals to do this a few days ago, and i'm finally getting to it! thank you @ardent-fox @suzy-queued @energievie 🖤

To close out 2023…

1) What fic did you have the most fun writing this year and why? Or, if you can’t decide, what was most fun about writing this year for you?

the most fun i had was while writing honeycomb, because julissa @heymrspatel and i got to play with our horny psychic link again and it was the BEST.

2) What’s a scene/story that you finished and felt “wow, I really accomplished that, that actually went so well”?

let them see. writing ian and mickey fucking with an audience and making it believable was HARD. i'm still not sure how well i accomplished that, but i'm proud of it.

3) What helped provide the most inspiration for stories, if anything? Was it poetry? A song on repeat? A gorgeous gifset? A walk outside? A book you read that made you want to change everything? Whatever it was! Tell all.

i listened to infinite granite by deafheaven on repeat. i just think it's beautiful, and it's good music for zoning out and imagining. lyrics from that album sometimes serve as working titles for my fics before they get real titles, and in fact i did name a fic after lyrics from that album. waiting in the light

4) What is something you want to share about what you’ve written this year? A particular line, a comment that made you feel really good, a scene that was difficult to write — you get to choose! What do you wish someone would ask you about when it comes to what you’ve written?

i just wanna talk about feels like a dream. setting the atmosphere for that was so fun. i wrote it so quickly, i could see it all so clearly in my head. i wanna talk about ian sucking on mickey's tongue. i wanna talk about the moment ian puts the collar on mickey and how he gets him to tell him why he wants it. i wanna talk about how ian talks to him and takes care of him and makes him feel owned. i wanna talk about how mickey sucks ian's dick like he needs it to live. i wanna talk about how important the atmosphere is in that moment, how even they felt like they didn't want to move too quickly and disturb what they had built up that night. i wanna talk about how mickey's so sleepy while ian's fucking him that he wonders if his orgasm is going to jerk him awake or make him even more sleepy and blissed out. oh god, and mickey calling ian daddy throughout. i just think it's sexy. i wrote it in september but i posted it at the very end of kinktober when people were likely just burnt out on it, but it's there and it's dreamy and it's kinky and i like it.

And to start off 2024…

1) Do you have any writing/creation goals for the year? What are they?

yes! i just want to post more fics. i still want to participate in kinktober and i want to format it differently this year. i want to write a multichapter au as well.

2) Is there a fic or idea that you’re really excited to be able to continue to work on in the new year (shout out to my fellow fic writing folks who take forever to finish wips, sometimes it’s nice to be able to continue working on something even if you wish you’d gotten it done! Now you get even MORE time with it!)

yeah, that multichapter au idea! i had written quite a bit for it and i HATED the direction it was going in and it made me want to scrap the whole thing. i had a helpful conversation about it with bee a few weeks ago and i've got new ideas for it, so really i want to tackle that. it just feels daunting because i've written thousands of words that i feel like i need to get rid of. i basically need to start over to make it work. but it'll happen!

3) What’s something new in your writing you want to try/are going to try? A different writing style? Different fandom? Darker works? Fluffier? Longer or shorter?

baby's first au! also i think i mentioned this before but i wanna try writing destiel smut. like deeply emotional, feral, inhuman, otherworldly reunion fucking. we'll see if i ever get to it though.

4) What’s something you love about your own writing that you will continue to appreciate in the new year?

i think i'm good at writing physical sensation. i find smut really fun and i think i'm pretty good at it. not just because i'm good at describing physical sensation, but for all kinds of reasons. i think i'm reasonably good at keeping ian and mickey in character while they're doing all kinds of things, and i like that. i think i'm good at setting a tone and atmosphere. i don't know man i just like it to be a sensory experience, and i think it often is.

How was your day today? i'm only about halfway through the day right now (it's 2:30ish in the afternoon for me), but it's been good! productive, doing my tax spreadsheet stuff for work and cleaning my apartment with my partner on our day off 😊 i got some fun new pens for art programs that i'm going to swatch too 😍

30. What are you looking forward to in the near future? after work tomorrow my partner and i are having our little polycule over 💗 we're going to watch the queer ultimatum which is always good for talking shit, my fave activity lol

honestly my hand kind of has a mind of its own, like i can watch a show while doodling LOL but i love drawing my blorbos, esp girls

pretty often! i used to doodle everyday to keep my hand occupied but i don't really do it anymore. when there's a fandom event i would draw the whole day + i go to art class on sundays

1. Who was your first ever OC? Do you still “use” them? How have they evolved over time?

first ever oc was one i made when i was like 3-4 with my grandma and i called her nature girl. she was a superhero plant woman fairy thing—very inspired by that one green fairy from neopets as i got older lol. but i don’t use her at all she’s not really my style anymore tho i do still enjoy fairies. i think it’d be interesting to try and give her a form or design—a revamp of some sort, and i tried in like 2015 i think but i don’t feel like trying to find that sketchbook lol. it doesn’t do her justice but maybe i’ll try again one day.

6. Do you have any OCs without stories? Will you ever create one for them?

quite a bit but sorta—mostly bc all of my characters have at least a bare bones general gist about them? however between characters i only draw or characters that were abandoned from old wips with my ex/roleplays that i don’t do anymore i do have some. i usually try to repurpose these ocs; like di, toph, quill, red, hel (all came from the same now defunct universe for example) but there are some that just kind of exist in limbo bc they’re so tied to their stories i can’t figure out what to do with them (an example is aslin rou eliduel; a fae esque dude) or i just can’t think of much to do with them (like utah & gator as an example). soooo i wanna do stuff with all my ideas if i can but i’ve accepted that sometimes it takes time or maybe it won’t happen at all lol.

7. What are your favourite relationships between your OCs? (romantic or platonic!)

i have a LOOOOT of favorite relationships across my wips. amon & hya are the obvious chief otp but here are some of my other favorites:

TCOL: by nature of having a huge cast i have a lot of favorite relationships but clear x forte, lath & ensio (i’m extremely not normal about them), piper & saith (ugh… the unrequited really hits the spot for me idk), erik x dion (THEM!!!!!), cameron x jihi (ouGhHh), and altair x charissa i’m not normal about

carlos & jenna from TLSS are my literal everything do not separate. also the polycule from donut wip of julissa, andres, saul, daisy, and joaquin is 🤌🏾🤌🏾. juls and juvia’s sisterhood makes me emo also

GOD EATER: not normal about naveah & little bear or taj x thei or the four of them in any aspect. also while lucifer x ava / lucifer x kyu is SLIGHT crack i’m still 👀

TGWD: definitely graves and dove but that’s obvious

VDTRT: aside from darren x gabe, dave x estel (crackish but it’s lowkey canon to me), corsel x blackpeak, and raymond x laurent (ESPECIALLY THESE TWO OHHHHHHHH MY GOD) do it for me

dead rites: i mean n x bibi for sure. you’ll notice the pattern that i make wips based on the relationships i’m not normal about 8 times out of 10

How did you first get into fandom? I think i got i more into the fandom culture in 2012 but i did take a break for like maybe 3 years bc I had no idea how the site worked or how to make friends haha. So i missed many of the iconic tumblr moments.

How long have you been engaging with fandom spaces? I remember reading animr fanfic since year six or year 7 so in 2008/2009 & I joined tumblr in 2012 as a more passive participant spam reblogging bc I had no idea how the site worked at first lol. Then I became a more active participant in the gallavich fandom in 2022 when I decided to post my first gallacrafts in feb 🥰

How often do you read fanfics? Every single day & every spare hour I can spare

first song lyrics that pop into your head? listen ok. I'm just not that guy. I rarely just have song lyrics in there. sometimes I'll have a song stuck in my head, but not often. so when I saw this I immediately panicked and tried to think of a song, and hand to God the first song that I thought of, for literally no logical reason because I haven't heard it in years, was the Arthur theme song. "everyday when you're walked down the street, everybody that you meet, has a different point of view and I say HEY hey! what a wonderful kind of day where you can learn to work and play and get a long with each other!"

favorite place you’ve traveled? mmmm probably PEI or St. John's, Newfoundland. I'm not very well traveled unfortunately but I've seen a good chunk of Canada. Those cliffs out east make you feel like you're at the edge of the world and it's breathtaking.

what’s the last movie you watched? Like in a theatre? Ummm it's been a while since I did that. I think it must have been The Green Knight several months ago. And I did not enjoy it.

what languages do you speak? english and arabic-ish

do you have any hobbies? reading, writing, planning fun events, cricuting, baking, watching endless amounts of television, sitting on my couch.

you can hang out with one fictional character for an hour, who do you choose? oooo this is good question! I think I'd like to have a drink with Leslie Knope. She probably needs one in this political climate.

“Shit. It’s really coming down out there.” Mickey said, stomping off the bits of snow clinging to his boots.

“Yeah, weather report said we could get 18 inches maybe even 2 feet just tonight.” Came Ian’s reply from the kitchen.

“I’m just glad we’ve got fuck all to do this weekend.” Ian already grinning at him as he walked around the corner.

“Did you get it?” Holding up the grocery bag made Ian’s eyes light up. “Fresh basil at your service.” Ian let the knife he was holding fall with a clatter; reaching to wrap his hands around Mickey’s head and give him a sound smack on the lips.

“What would I do without you?”

“Suffer.” Mickey answered, chuckling as Ian scrunched up his face and threw a piece of celery at him.

“Smells good.” He commented, moving to stand behind Ian.

“Thanks, new recipe. Ahhh, fuck!” Ian hissed when Mickey scrunched up his shirt at his waist, sliding ice cold fingers underneath it against his skin.

“You’re not funny.” He said, grabbing a hold of Mickey’s wrists and turning to face his snickering husband.

“Oh come on, man. I went to the store for you, warm me up.” Mickey replied with the corners of his mouth still turned up. Stepping closer to Ian, their chests almost touching and his voice lowered.

“Warm you up huh?” Ian said, smirking himself. Still holding onto Mickey he brought all of their hands together. His completely enveloping Mickey’s as he pressed them all together.

His eyes dancing, and Mickey rolling his, as he rubbed them together for a few seconds and huffed warm air into his opened palms.

It didn’t last long until he was dropping them and turning back to his cooking. Mickey already getting cold again in the empty space.

“Maybe if you’re nice to me I’ll warm the rest of you up later.” Ian gave Mickey a look over his shoulder.

Mickey took a step forward, back to his previous position. He could feel Ian’s shirt pushing up as he let his hands roam. Feel the firmness of his muscles in some places, the softness in others, fingertips lightly scratching at the strip of coarse hair in the middle. All of him warm under his hands.

Until he stopped. Not moving away, just resting there. Skin against skin in the simplest of ways.

Resting his forehead against Ian’s back he asked quietly. “Better?”

Ian leaned back into his embrace, placing one hand over one of his.

“Better.”
