Hello!!

6) What character do you have the most fun writing?

Probably Tony! I worry sometimes that his voice doesn't always come out properly, but when it does I always find he has a really interesting perspective to write from. I usually have to Google a lot of things since his mind goes in twenty different directions at once, but it's always worth it!

7) What do you think are the characteristics of your personal writing style? Would others agree?

I'm honestly not sure, but I guess I'd have to say writing from a place of emotional continuity over plot. Sometimes the connective tissue is in how the characters are feeling and not necessarily what's happening, and I usually have to go back and fill in the joints later. That being said, I also think people might point to my narration style; the third person omniscient will sometimes, not break, but poke the fourth wall with little asides meant for the audience. I would almost akin them to the old style ANs (though I was never an AN-in-the-middle-of-the-chapter writer, even back in the old days), but they add the same kind of flavor to the text while still being careful not to break the flow of the writing.

8) Is what you like to write the same as what you like to read?

Generally, yes; I have to have a happy ending, or I'll McLose it xD This goes for my work and the works that I read. I can stomach just about any angst, whump, trauma, anything you put the characters through - as long as I know it'll get fixed in the end. I wouldn't say I'm particularly good at writing fight scenes or whump myself, but I do like to indulge on occasion. I do like to read plotty-er stuff than what I write, and generally prefer to read longfic; even though I haven't written anything I would consider longfic myself (...yet.)

I have been feeling really insecure about my art for....a while now. Months, at least. I think the transition to art school was a big part of that. You know that thing where people who were used to being the smartest/most academically successful student in their class/school go to college and are suddenly surrounded by people who were all the smartest kid at their school, and have a crisis about not being exceptional anymore? Turns out that same thing can happen with artists. It's hard not to compare yourself. And I've been feeling like it's been so long since I got to make the kind of art i want to be making, and made it well.

Fortunately, this semester I've gotten some assignments that give me a little more freedom, and also some opportunities to do some illustration work, and I'm working on several things I'm really excited about right now! I'm starting to feel like maybe I'm dragging myself out of the self-pity hole. (unfortunately all of these projects are on tight deadlines and I'm also fighting off burnout with a shovel rn)

🧩 ⇢ what will make you click away from a fanfiction immediately?

Hmmmm...most stuff I don't like I manage to filter out based on tags and summaries. I think a fic that's trying to be funny, but doing it in a way that feels out of character or just isn't my brand of humor, is a pretty immediate nope for me. Likewise if it dips into intense social awkwardness. I have a painfully strong sense of secondhand embarrassment and I'm not putting myself through that XD

15. what do you think of when you hear the word “home”? home makes me think of sound, the kind i can settle into with ease. whenever i'm away from home (whatever notion that is for me), i'm always seeking out familiar noises. i like falling asleep while people are around me engaging in quiet conversation, hearing dogs barking in the distance or cars passing, cicadas!!! birdsong....

28. do you collect anything? yes! i have a growing collection of postcards (+ prints) and postage stamps. i have yet to figure out how to properly store them but yes. i also hoard trinkets, stickers, fabric scraps, memorabilia from just about anywhere.

30. what’s one thing that never fails to make you happy/happier? water is #1 forever and ever water is the antidote water is the savior... going for a long shower, dipping my feet in a body of water, etc always makes me feel lighter. that and sitting in the sun!

I love your demo and have combed through all the asks here—particularly for any info I could find on Percy. I have a few questions:

(1) The “book” on itch that was linked for Jamie’s birthday doesn’t appear when I follow the link and use the code. It just says that it’s broken into sections. And there’s no further text or links or files or anything. How do I get access please?

(2) can you show on Percy’s sprite which rings are the ones Elio gave him?

(3) Percy fixes his hair for a long time when you come up to Elio to accept his invite to play a game. Since he’s an introvert, is he kinda avoiding interaction? Recognizes you and is deciding how to handle it? Or is pretty boy just THAT much into his hair? 😅

(4) You said since they are college students and still exploring themselves, their sexual orientations may change over the course of the game. Might that be true for their gender identities as well? Percy gave me NB/genderfluid vibes when I started the game.

Qs about the development process - how does the team structure for a given LI's route function? Does each route have an Artist-Writer-Programmer trio that collaborates to get a route completed, with the named Role Leads pulling everything together for consistency? With such a huge game, did y'all use version control and code repos to manage the scripts?

Hi, Game Lead kittleskittle here!

You're very close with the team structure! Each route has one or more writers, and the same goes for artists. Leads for each route were chosen by team members, and those leads report to the project leads. Whole project leads manage their specific department and collaborate with me to come up with standards and ensure route teams are adhering to them. It's a lot of work, but they've all done amazingly. Having such a structured team is a large part of why this project has been so successful!

As far as programming goes, I've coded the majority of the routes, the UI, and the background + other additional animations myself with support from other programmers on the team. This helps keep the standards I've designed for the game and the overall vision on track. However, we do make use of GitHub as a code repo for the project!

The biggest reason this project has worked, in my opinion, is our rock solid organization and standards. I've made these a huge priority from the start, because I believe that any project lives or dies based on the quality of its internal organization and leadership. We have many important documents in our project gdocs folders for just about everything you can think of, from the GDD (Game Design Document), to standards for sprites and scripts, to QA. We also have tracking documents for progress with assets such as backgrounds and audio, which have been a lifesaver in terms of measuring progress.

3. If they chose to multiclass, what does it reflect about them? If they did not, why? Story or player reasons.

Ariadne does have a multiclass, though it is game-mandated since she goes Legend! Since the max you can get in any class is 20, Ariadne had to change things up after hitting that for Grenadier. I chose Sword Saint mostly for meta reasons - I played the class in Kingmaker and loved it, and Ariadne already had the stats for it. It turned out to be a very complimentary build, with Ariadne's high INT giving her a huge bonus to AC and the added BAB making it so by level 40 Ariadne is getting to throw a whopping 8 bombs a round. Story-wise, I wrote this into Ariadne's backstory by making her stepfather, Elvandir, a Magus who's skills she's always admired.

Ok but, a tag that would apply that I wouldn’t want to use? Hmmm. I’m quite anti spoiling my works too much, so it might be quite story-specific. Like if a character dies and I know I’ll bring that back, I’m not sure I’d tag temporary character death?

32. Idk about a word or phrase but I have a sentence structure I always use and now I’ve spotted it in so conscious of it! I always follow a past tense verb with a present tense verb. Literally the opening line of one of my fics: “Peter flitted back and forth, straightening paper napkins and opening and closing cupboards”.

OK NO I realise a word / sound I always use: “argh” and also “ugh”. Shout out to @noxnthea for some excellent iterations of those in the pod of Waiting For Something More!

I think I’m pretty good at writing funny and sharp characters. I’m also really proud of the way that I share that across male and female characters - big fan of my Peter, MJ, and Steph in particular. I’m writing Jason at the moment and my style is fitting him so well. I like that I just try to become my characters for a bit - I think that authenticity comes across in the way they read.

1) Favourite song is either High School is Killing Me or Cool As I Think I Am! I could gush for a long time about how gorgeous they both are. NPMD actually takes the cake for my favourite music in the Hatchetfield trilogy - least skips, most bops! (Hatchetfield, compared to other Starkid musicals, doesn't always have music I like to listen to outside of watching the musical itself)

2) Jesus don't make me choose between my children...! Starkid are really so damn good at having a tight group of main characters. Hmmmmm the many years of starkid nostalgia means I always love a Joey protagonist so damn much, but you know what, I thought Richie was so great, I think he wins by a hairs breadth. He opened the musical beautifully, I was a little weeb at his age and hung out with a lot of kids like him so his dialogue was fuckin hilarious and hit me where I live, I had a lot of FeelingsTM, and he ended act 1 beautifully too.

7) Dirty Girl! Loved it in the musical (Angela's performance is just amazing, as was Will's) but used to skip it on the album coz it just wasn't really my genre of music. I think it's coz the opening verse doesn't really hit for me. But everything from that Grace verse onwards got me in the end.

10) I'm such a basic bitch and l tend to love the canon ships (Lautski are so damn cute, and Holy Ghost are insane for each other /pos), so I'm reading this question as what NON canon ships do I like! I love Trevor and Rudolph, but also I wanna see Ruth (my sweet baby bisexual) have a happy flirty moment. Is anyone shipping Ruth with Brooke?? I don't think they'd be together long, but I think they'd have some adventures (or y'know, Brooke setting fire to shit and Ruth too flustered to stop her) before they went their separate ways. Or maybe Ruth and Caitlyn would be cute, a short theatre kid romance while they work on a show together!

for the longest time, i've tossed around the idea of writing fic but only really pursued it when i rewatched band of brothers earlier this year. my google drive and notes app are collapsing under the strain of docs and txt posts that remain 'untitled' and because i haven't answered your wip game ask about the liebgott and nixon haircut fic, i'll talk about that here! i really love the anecdote of lieb snagging a weekend pass from dick after each haircut, and you already know how much i love your liebgott gives haircuts fic. initially, i wanted it to be liebgott asking dick for advice on how in the ever living fuck to talk to an ivy leaguer, seeing as he has so much experience in the department. but eventually switched it up to lieb asking nixon because in my head: 1) dick would be so stilted, lieb being one of his men. say 'hang tough' and call it a day. 2) liebgott just wouldn't expose a soft part of his belly to winters like that. the switch to nix, just felt like giving myself room for more flexible dialogue.

w. what's an hbo war url that you like/would change to? if you have an hbo war url, why did you choose it?

if i had to change it to an hbo war url, would definitely be prop-blast. rolls off the tongue, raised hell (and parachutes) for the paratroops. good stuff.

y. what's a wip (edits, art, fic, etc.) you have for any of the shows that will never see the light of day?

god, i have several docs where i just imagine dick/nix dying tragically, lots of bleeding, general hopelessness etc. that i write when i want a good cry but will never want to inflict on anyone else. lol! some of them very heavily influenced by anecdotes from coming out under fire.

What can I say, I instantly loved him for his mean gay tendencies lmao, no but really - he's witty, inteligent, sassy, has a dark, traumatic past, cares a ton about his friends, is actually incredibly kind and caring, he's gay and struggling with it, is as a magnet for supernatural boys in his area, George did and INCREDIBLE job portraying him, I stood no chance

3. A character you think is underrated/ underappreciated - maybe Jenny?

I'm pretty sure most of the fandom likes her, myself included, but she's only a side character and not a part of the main gang, is only able to see the boys in ep 8, and we don't know that much about her for those same reasons, so I understand why there's not that much content being made about her, though I thought they'd be more Jenny fanart bc of how cool her whole design is

6 (something you see in art a lot and love) - ........ oh lord im so sorry artists everywhere i cannot think of Anything. brain blank as hell. this fandom has some damn good anatomy though, and badass aesthetic. and any art emphasizing their android nature (goes w fic as well)..... hell yeah 👀 once again my issue is at least partially the requirement by the phrasing of the q that it is both smth i see a LOT and smth i LOVE lol

7 (your favorite tropes to read/write/draw) - ok ok ik i already answered this one in the prev one but why shut up when i can keep talking ok. uhhhh as stated above i love when androids are treated as androids, and as such here i love this sorta "interspecies" dynamic it makes. the trope of a normal guy trying to understand this foreign, incomprehensible sort of person... i love when their differences aren't downplayed or erased but rather accepted and adjusted to, even if with difficulty. brings about a unique kind of relationship i can't get enough of (not specifically talking ship).

31. Do you start with the characters or the plot when writing?

Characters, always! The plot kind of comes out of me as I go. I usually have a premise like "these guys are partners but they hate each other" and then as I'm writing, I'm like oooooh that's why they hate each other, etc.

42. What's the last fic you read? Do you recommend it?

OMG honestly it's been chaos around here and I haven't been able to read anything good in SO LONG that I don't even remember! I know that I'm anticipating sitting down to read the newest installment of Torn which I'll always recommend. And the newest installment of Orange Juice too!

As far as other fandoms, I just read this Rust Cohle (from True Detective) fic that like was out of this world on Ao3. If I can find it again, I'll link it. OR I'll actually start that fic rec blog and link it there.
