Big TW for pet loss

Hey, clangen tumblr and those who just enjoy the silly cats on this blog. I know it's been a little bit of time since my last update, but unfortunately during the past few months, I have been caring for my closest friend, Comet.

She's been my best friend for 15 whole years, and on February 9th of 2024, I'm sad to say that she has passed. I won't lie when I say that this is one of the hardest posts I've ever made, but I want to continue this blog in her honor. Normally, I have a terrible habit of just letting projects like this slip by me and gather dust; however Comet was meant to play an integral part within the blog to immortalize her, and I refuse to let something meant just for her to go to waste.

I want to thank you all first of all for being such an amazing community. I've genuinely had so much joy come of this blog, and it pains me that I let it go stagnant for as long as I have. There are 568 of you now, which is so extremely wild to me; but I hope that from now on, you can all love Comet as much as I did, even if as a memory.

I hope to return to posting content both here and on my main, @mxssacre , but for now I still need time to grieve and come to terms with the loss of someone that was so incredibly intertwined with everything I've done since I was 9 years old.

Thank you for everything Comet, my heart, my soul, my love.

anyway for my actual answer: in terms of direct inspiration, it doesn't really happen much? the last two times i did art directly based on someone else's work is probably this one from this fic, and also that time i drew art of someone else's judgment au. oh! and there's that moriohpsycho art based on this comic! (filthyguts' work is so very. hgngngghh. very good.) nothing else really comes to mind, and when i think of the other things i've been into recently there hasn't been as much opportunity for that to happen...

flex and herds = strong fixation but lmao. almost nobody else made stuff about them. nobody is surprised umineko = surprisingly i don't read much umineko fanfiction? and in terms of illustration, i certainly picked up imagery and indirect inspiration but nothing concrete enough for me to give an example... now that i think about it, i did once draw andromalius from redaction/sunny, but that was years ago, and also mostly because i was acquainted with the writer. ...i don't have that artwork on hand right now death note = didn't really get involved with the fandom + i enjoyed my own ideas well enough! ...i can't recall if i drew long-hair-L art before or after seeing other artists do it. and as for everything else the same kind of reasoning applies. didn't really get involved with the fandom or wasn't really compelled to make art in response to stuff i saw, or i just don't remember anymore.

buuuuuuut if we're opening this up to just... pulling ideas from other people? then yeah, all the time, though that kind of goes without saying when you have a creative hobby. ...it's probably going to be hard to come up with examples of this since it's more ambiguous.

there's uhhhhhh... kuwana listens to nickelback which was a @/four-white-trees invention, wasn't it? (EDIT: and @/overdevelopedglasses!) (not tagging in this post so he doesn't feel obligated to read my big ass ask responses 💀) as of writing this, it's not posted but i did end up making kuwagami art based on a nickelback song so. yknow. there's that LMAO

for sawashiro and arakawa, i do sometimes go reference @/todayisafridaynight 's art to help me with my own. ("how did he draw this part of the suit? oh, like that huh? hmm" <- this kind of thing)

and um. i'm not trying to pander to you (at least not this time), but genuinely it's one of the few examples that come to mind at this moment. but when i was writing my first kuwagami fic, i could feel the influence of the ever-changing on my brain... was turning over some of your ideas there...

18. How about a relationship they have in canon with another character that you admire?

okay so i could go about this for HOURSSSS but kira and bianka's mentor/mentee relationship genuinely makes me want to eat bricks in the best possible way. oh so like okay kira probably held bianka as a baby and doesn't even know it until like. what. 5 years after their meeting in the dudu vn. and also during one of their first convos kira says that bianka "really knows how to encourage others, just like cecilia". and also the Bond between someone who comes from earth but after the second eruption was away from it for so long that she no longer really recognizes it, and someone who had all their memories wiped, any "inherent tie" she might've had to the world around her severed, and had to build her connection to it all by herself. and also the duty of a valkyrie vs the duty of an idol as expressed in the vn in this specific dialogue:

Kira: Idols are angels meant to convey love, and only a heart with the desire of "reaching the top" can carry such a heavy task. Kira: She needs to become the person that everyone needs. Kira: She needs to fight against her own shortcomings, immaturity, selfishness and prejudice. Kira: And more than that, in order to convey true love in the hearts of others she must be like an unbreakable diamond, shining forever. Bianka: ...How can someone do that? People can get hurt at any time! Kira: Even lions get hurt, but they don't let themselves be seen licking their wounds. Kira: Because a lion is a lion.

like do you GET me. obviously this is a part of schicksal rhetoric that kira herself is a victim of [do not get me started on kira's savior complex i will Not stop talking] but it's also one of the first GENUINE, not schicksal-arranged role models bianka had in her life. kira was a valkyrie, sure, but she has Seen Shit and persevered and i think tiny bian needed to meet someone like that. okay hold on im rambling lets move onnnnn ^-^

19. How about a relationship they have in canon that you don't like?

im gonna be entirely honest i cant think of anything.... though there Are a couple i would've liked to get more. Elaboration on. specifically:

1. human niggurath. i wonder if they were close. i mean like, yeah they WERE close because all of the snowwolves were close with each other but i wanna know more about these 2 specifically!! in 2e we get much more of a focus on niggurath's relationship with salome [which is delicious do not get me wrong] but i wonder what it was like between her and kira, with brown sugar's later bodyhopping i mean. speaking of which i wonder how naturally similar to niggurath brown sugar is.... cause like, we know that she continued using her previous host's name and form because thats how kira referred to her but i wonder how much of it is genuine and how much of it is "wearing a red shirt at walmart" type of situation. because in my mind it could be either that a) shub and brown sugar are really just that alike by themselves, b) brown sugar kind of melded shub's personality with her own when she lived in her body, or c) she only developed that after being with kira. which. i believe the latter is the closest to canon since in dudu vn kira mentions brown sugar not being entirely Sentient (yet?). which. has implications. yes im psychoanalyzing her comic relief alien best friend dont even worry about it

2. siegfried but SPECIFICALLY post-sshc arc. because yeah yeah we know that before 2e she fucking DESPISED him [which btw i find hysterically funny. never stop being a hater] and while ik that she has Not improved her opinion after that it still must be. strange. like oh okay theyre one of the only people who remember cecilia for who she was. and the snowwolves for who they were. and they were both away from their home universe for most of the time between 2e and sshc. like that must fuck you up. but at the same time its also "i miss my wife" "i miss your wife too"

3. THE WOMAN THE LEGENDARY LADY CECILIA SCHARIAC HERSELF. jesus christ every time i think about kira and cecilias relationship i want to jump into the ocean never to be seen again. kira loved her sooooo so much but also she loved her before cecilia met siegfried. it had to be jarring to see her become suddenly so. happy. but she loved her in a very idealized way, i think? to me at least its very obvious it couldnt Ever have been mutual simply because kira never quite managed to get as close to cecilia as such a relationship would require... in the end, she was just. her fan. cecilia was her friend, yes, but she was also that shining star in the distance that marked kira's way, that drove her to become a valkyrie and an idol... which is another topic in on itself because. kira is prickly! kira isnt the type of person who finds it easy to be that perfect idol, thats all a conscious effort!! but i digress. kira loved cecilia in the way that she adored her, but then suddenly cecilia was gone and the snowwolves were gone and kira had to find her own way in the dark. which is also why i think it could be such a fun thing to explore her dynamic with miste[I AM SUDDENLY AND REPEATEDLY SHOT. MY CORPSE IS DRAGGED AWAY AND THROWN OFF A BRIDGE.]

24. What other character from another fandom of yours that reminds you of them?

OH UHM I DONT KNOW ACTUALLY. i find it that pretty often with hi3rd chars specifically, i have a lot of trouble finding characters that really "remind" me of them from other media simply because each and every one has a string of such strangely specific mental problems that even if at first glance two characters appear similar, i think about it for 3 seconds more and decide "never mind actually" so. im sorry but i actually cant think of anything 😭😭

Hohoho strap in (this is obv about Jesse, for those who are just joining us)

What triggers nostalgia for them, most often? Do they enjoy that feeling? I would say… calmness? When things are slow and there's not much to worry about. Stuff like quiet nights around the campfire, going on pointless rides etc. It reminds him of childhood and being back home, but he does not enjoy it. Not with all of it having been ripped away from him as forcefully as it was. It might feel nice, however the thoughts that come later are not.

What lie do they most frequently remember telling? Does it haunt them? Oh definitely the one where when asked by one of his brothers (the wording different) "Are you a queer?" he said "No." and it does haunt the absolute shit out of him. It's very much not a "I wish I said the truth" thing, though. It's more the entire situation surrounding the lie that is a massive motivator for the way that he acts and the way that he does, in a negative way. A bit not what the question is about, I guess, but he really is not a liar so I don't have much else…

How does envy manifest itself in them (they take what they want, they become resentful, etc)? Take what he wants? Hell no, he's totally the opposite type of person. He won't take shit unless he's explicitly allowed to take it or told to steal it (he's an outlaw after all lol even if only out of necessity). Resentful, though… totally. He can be a little bitch when things that he wants are unattainable. Especially after he's gotten older and starts to feel a bit like he's just… owed some of them? For the shitty life he's had? Still he'd rather seethe in silence than do something about it. He's not a risk taker unless he has to and stealing taking what you want is always risky.

What causes them to feel dread? Better question would be what doesn't lmao Since in modern times he would definitely be considered to have some sort of an anxiety disorder (just like me wahoo) -- he's always on his toes, anticipating the worst possible outcome. I'd go as far as to say dread sparsely leaves him.

What do you feel when you think of your OC (pride, excitement, frustration, etc)? Excitement!! I get so freaking giddy when I think of my silly little cowboy… Sadness sometimes too, because his story is tragic and fucked up, but it's that enjoyable type.

What trait of theirs bothers you the most? I'm gonna take this in a "if I met him" way because I'm in full control of his personality and actions so if something actually bothered me, I'd just change it 😅 In that case the answer is: that he's a pussy. It's not that he's not brave, a coward that would rather hide away from the danger than to jump into action. I'm talking more inter-personally, emotionally. If you read any of the stuff I wrote about him, you know what I mean. If he were my bestie, just hearing him talk about his life and relationships would make me want to beat the shit out of him.

Wait

Metal hand tapping against the floor, Johnny turned his gaze away from her. If she didn't know better, she'd have recognised shame on his face.

"Worst thing they can do to you, take who you are..." Johnny hit his head against the wall, metal fingers clenching in a fist. "Don't have any more answers than you do, doll. For what it's worth, don't fuckin' want this any more than you."

Johnny shifted, turning round to fully face her, steeled expression as he leaned into her space, Valerie tensing at the intrusion. "You want an out? Oughta take it now. Not how I'd do it, but you wanna go out on your terms? Do us both a favour an' make it quick." He gestured to the gun on the table beside her. An out. One last act she could make. Preserve her integrity to her last moment.

It would be easier. God knows that gun felt like it had been pressed to her head since the day she was born, always waiting for an excuse to pull the trigger. A cold, unloveable creature. Waiting for the day someone put her down. At least this way it would be in her hands. Her choice.

Wind

She'd felt the wind knocked out of her when Johnny asked to go on a date with Rogue. Which was unfair. She'd just told him how important it was to have connections with the people in your life, and now she was bitter because he wanted to fix the ones he had?

It wasn't just that though. There was something more with Rogue, the 'what if that always hung in the air around them. She wanted him to do this, to get some closure, but it felt like signing her own death warrant. She knew the moment Rogue was back in the picture she might as well be gone.

Teeth

"And what, you think you're somethin'? Got news for you old man, you've been dead 50 years, nobody gives a fuck about Johnny Silverhand anymore, not even Arasaka. There's no score to settle, they've forgotten you and it's time you moved on and fucked off."

She gritted her teeth when his metal hand tugged hard on her hair, dragging her back round to face him. His face was so close she could feel his hair brushing against her, his expression menacing and teeth bared, his breath hot against her face.

"What, and you think you're gonna go out in some 'blaze of glory? Not in this fuckin' life Princess. Look at your choom Jackie-"

"Dont say his name you fuckin' asshole." She spat. The grip on her hair tightened, causing her to grimace, pushing down a small sound of pain that threatened to escape. She wouldn't give the bastard the satisfaction.

"look where he is now. Bleedin' out in the back of a cab your idea of a blaze of glory? That ain't happenin'. Not for you. You're no Night City legend darlin', you're gonna end up right there alongside your choom in the long list of nobodies who died thinkin' they could be somthin' in this city.”

Hope

"Can we stay here for a bit longer? I know we have shit to-"

He silenced her with the press of his lips against her own, moving in tandem as they twined themselves round one another. She felt him relax into the mattress and allowed herself to do the same, any desire to move from that spot vanishing with the soft touch of his hand trailing down her arm.

"Stayin' here long as you want Darlin'."

She let her eyes drift shut, tentatively reaching out to his mind with her own. What she found there lay any worry she may have had to rest, complete and overwhelming devotion tangling with her own, indistinguishable from each other.

As they lay there, basking in the faint glow of the setting sun over the pacific as it encompassed them in it's warmth, she realised for the first time since Jackie died, she felt hope. Hope for a different future, for them to stay like this forever, wrapped up in each other's warmth, feeling like for the first time, they had both found their way home.
