Partly, yes. Price has been keeping her in the dark about The Capitol being upset with Reader & König in general. She’s entirely oblivious to them being in danger overall, and he knows she will worry herself to the point it might become its own separate issue. Price has that habit of carrying the burden and only handing them out when it is absolutely necessary.

Mostly, though, it’s because Price couldn’t bring himself to admit his own failure to her. I cannot emphasize just how churned up Price is over not being able to get the kids out of it. This is a man who volunteered his own life to protect the love of his life, and he failed. And in his eyes, even after everything he has done to ensure König & Reader’s safety, he failed them, too. Just like he failed every tribute he’s had in the last twenty years.

He can’t block it out or down play it - because he knows what they’re going through.

Price knows he should have told Ruby so that she could act sensitively around the kids, but he couldn’t bring himself to do it, so he lied. He could hardly work up the nerve to tell König and Reader - and since Ruby didn’t really need to know unlike the kids, he couldn’t bring himself to get the words out.

He assumed Reader would explode on Ruby and she’d find out that way instead, but she didn’t (preoccupied with getting felt up & stressing about their crimes) That should have been his first clue that something was amiss, but he was too busy choking on his own guilt and couldn’t even look them in the eye.

Just him and Price on leave during winter together and cuddling by a fire with both of them in big sweaters. So good. I don't think Nik gets cold easily but even he must be equipped for the harsh winters :3c

22: Give us a headcanon for Nikolai

Nikolai is good in many things but I don't think he'd be a great gardener, I think that's more of a Price's thing. He helps with the heavy lifting and stuff but when it comes to taking care of plants, he sucks. Something about wanting to take care of them too much and ending up killing them. Price takes care of their little garden and Nik cooks the veggies, perfectly balanced.

YES YES YES OMG OKAY HI. i have been Waiting for a chance to talk to her but its been so long since i've reread the books that specifically involve her that i feel like my knowledge of her as a character has dipped. still !!

favorite thing about them: her attitude, honestly. i LOVE a rude character, especially when that comes from a place of jealousy, and she is my Queen of jealous behavior <3

least favorite thing about her: difficult question, to be honest! anything i dislike is often sort of meta and aimed at derek landy's method of writing characters who have been "brainwashed."

fav line: DIFFICULT!!! "surprise," when she first goes to hunt valkyrie in db is a classic, but i thiiink. i think i'd have to go for a moment later in that conversation, when she talks about what it feels like to be a god.

like... she's so clearly desperate to convince herself just as much as she's desperate to convince val, and i love it so much. she's so SO messed up.

brOTP: i honestly don't look at mel as someone with a lot of friends, but one of my favorite dynamics i like to run over in my head is her and clarabelle. i think interactions between them could be so so funny and honestly really cute - mel's such a self-centered grump, it would be fun to see her against someone who's so constantly lighthearted.

OTP: val/melancholia has my heart . like literally forever. they're so awful to each other in the beginning but they establish this understanding that actually means so so much to me? their dynamic is so fun to play with, and i have an au where mel ends up near val during the post-dotl time skip that i think about All The Time.

nOTP: haven't seen anyone actually ship these two, but just one thing i would be decidedly uninterested in is mel and craven. for a lot of reasons overall, but idk. with the way derek writes their relationship i wouldn't be comfortable seeing them in anything outside of what they already are - which is uncomfortable in itself, to be honest.

random headcanon: i like to think she used to be a writer, when she had free time. i don't really have a basis for it, but i like to think about 15 yr old mel with a poetry journal, scribbling down edgy lines and dreaming about becoming the next sylvia plath. i just really like the idea of her with dreams before she became the death bringer.

unpopular opinion: um. i haven't really seen enough opinions About mel to necessarily have an 'unpopular' one? i guess mine is like... i would've actually liked to see more of her and the consequences of her failing on the necromancer community.

song i associate with them: okay. a song with both vibe and lyrics that fit her would be this but i have like. a whole list of specific val/mel songs and songs that mel would just break down upon hearing the lyrics of, including satisfied by MARINA, to be seen by searows, and drunk drivers/killer whales by carseat headrest. also, the line from the arcane s2 soundtrack goes CRAZY as a melancholia song, actually.

After writing that long post about Cade and Jalen's rivalry, I couldn't help myself but attempt to write one. It's sitting in my Scrivener docs, unfinished, mainly because I'm still sorting out a player/coach fic that I hope to finish and put into the @nbagediff collection one day.

But anyway, back to the draft. I spent most of this regular season writing fic about the Pistons (mostly Cade/Duren/Ivey and then Beasley/Hardaway side plot) while writing Jabari/Alperen and then various Jalen Green ships which I will talk about in a different ask post and then link here.

Cade and Jalen's opposing energies are soooo fascinating to me because Cade is like "single father of the Pistons" and then Jalen is like "this is how I win (loses)". Cade is responsible and grounded, Jalen is like a fiery free spirit.

Their playing styles are different, the way they carry their teams, even the way they move and talk. Cade is methodical, serious (don't be fooled though, his humour/love language is roasting), and then Jalen is bouncy, spacey, mean, and impulsive (on a side note I do think it's kind of funny how I learned a bunch of Jalen's past lore through @jrueships posts).

In the unfinished draft, Cade meets up with Jalen after losing to the Rockets, and they head down to the club (where they eventually make out or something like that...I didn't write that part yet). Jalen is always one-upping him in the story, while Cade has already centered himself as top dawg. That's why I wondered which one was top or bottom then realized that for me there was no bottom:

Even irl, Jalen was picked second, and Cade first, but Jalen still treats himself as "second place" because he has that chip on his shoulder, while Cade comfortably sits at first place in their dynamic (and also has proved it multiple times by carrying the Pistons, something that Jalen can only do inconsistently with the Rockets).

And I think this is the crux of their dynamic to me: the fact that Jalen is always fighting to be in first place while Cade already knows that he is in first place. Jalen is always trying to prove himself, he's never quite good enough in some way – he wants Cade's spot. It kind of creates this dynamic that is self-inflicted (but is also an irl situation because Jalen was picked second).

^^ From a different draft, which I've been meaning to finish for so long but every time I look at it, I feel like I'll implode if I let anyone read it. But this was the first Cade/Green fic I wrote, intertwined inside a Cade/Duren fic. It's outside of what I normally write, but in this version, Cade/Green ended up being a summer (league) fling that Cade had a good old toxic time in and then ultimately was like, "No, I can't be with JG and also carry the Pistons to victory".

I think it's really cool that you share your art even when you're not quite feeling it or leave stuff up when you regret posting. It's a nice reminder that not everything has to be perfect and people will still enjoy stuff when the artist has doubts. idk I find it encouraging in a way But also sending vibes that your next piece won't be one of those and you'll get to be happy with it

That is a very sweet thing to say, thank you! Like I don't know, your ask made me think about the reasons why I do post the drawings I'm not super happy about etc. I think it comes down to a few things:

1: I'm stubborn and if I've spent time on a drawing, I want to publish it so that I feel like I didn't waste my time drawing it.

2: I always think about my favorite artists and how sometimes they post things they're unsure of, and how those pieces end up being some of my favorite. Just because I'm not personally happy with it doesn't mean other people won't love it. Like you said, not everything has to be perfect !

3: This part is the part I'm working on the most, but sometimes I just feel like I need to keep posting constantly, even if I'm not super happy with what I'm making. As much as I would like to say that I draw for myself only and for no other reasons, truth be told, sometimes I like getting feedback on my art, I love seeing big numbers next to my art, and I attach my worth to my art a lot (in a "if I keep making art, people will like me, right?" kind of way), which isn't a good thing to do. I'm getting better at not caring about the numbers though, even if it's tough. Balancing creativity and social medias isn't always easy.

Sorry for the ramblings, I just think it's good for us creative minds to be honest with ourselves and everyone else sometimes ! Especially since most of us struggle with this kind of thoughts, and social medias can be extremely alienating in the way that we only see the best version of everyone. It makes it easy to forget that we all face the same struggles.
