this is an invitation to tell us all about your Barfies 🥺
My Barfies!!! Omg yes. I'll gladly tell you about them 🥹
They're called Lilla Fröet and Kott and they look like this!!
Lilla Fröet (also called Lillen) was a Christmas gift from my partner in 2012. His name means "the little seed" bc at the time me and my partner sometimes referred to each other as seeds that would eventually grow into flowers. (It was a way for us to deal with some rough stuff that was going on in our lives back then.) Also he's actually a wheat warmer so he kind of does contain seeds?
Lillen is extremely kind, but he's also a giggly mf and likes to do silly stuff/play harmless tricks on his friends. He's adventurous and loves to try new things, very open-minded and understanding. He's been there for me through a lot of hardships. His favorite music ever is the track "Danger! High Voltage" by Electric Six. If we put that on he HAS to dance. And then we ALL have to dance. Also, he has a precious collage of needles from various trees and bushes, which has been framed and hangs in our kitchen. (The collage can be pictured below.)
Then there's Kott, who joined us in 2016 after a random trip to IKEA. He's a hedgehog, which in Swedish is "igelkott", thus the name. Whereas Lillen is very calm and knows that things will always be OK in the end, Kott is a bit more neurotic. He squeaks if you press his belly and he often uses his squeaks to go on excitable rants or to scold us for not doing things according to our (or his) usual routine. His most precious thing in life is the strawberry on his belly, which he thinks he has to protect At All Cost. He doesn't really have any favorite music of his own but gets very excited when Lillen's fave track comes on.
Lillen is kind of a big brother to Kott and has taken him under his wings. He's taught him that the world isn't as scary as he thinks, and most people are friendly actually. This has allowed Kott to be brave enough to experience some of Lillen's adventures with him, and so they have a plethora of crazy stories about things they get up to while my partner and I are away or asleep. For example, they have apparently gone skateboarding with the neigbor's cat. My partner sometimes tells me about these adventures in the form of bedtime stories, if I ask nicely. (For some reason they tell him all about their adventures, but rarely share them with me...)
Anyway I love them and they are very important members of the family.
#ask a nerd#thank you for asking me about my barfies <3#i am an adult child who likes to be told bedtime stories about my plushies. you wish you were me.#Lilla Fröet & Kott

Reblogging this ask summons me! And yes, please for both your OC and "yourself!"
HERE WE GO!
⭐, 💬, 📜, ⚔, 🗺
^_^ hello there! thank you for making this fun ask game and for dropping by!!
⭐: What weapon/skill do you think you have hidden talent in? (Max 3)
for both of us, reason lol. and yes I just said my real self would have a proficiency in reason... literally only one talent. my OC would start with a weakness in reason. thinking is too much work.
💬: Byleth has to attain certain proficiencies to poach students to their house. But what more could they have also done if they want to convince you to join them?
I wasn't actually sure what this one meant, would this be like the stat they need a good ranking in? for my real self that would be magic, and for my OC it would be strength.
for other requirements, ghostly said earlier recruiting all the ashen wolves and yes this is extremely correct. I would also like this. or at least yuri and coco.
📜: What will your backstory in FE3H probably be? (as briefly as necessary!)
for my OC, I have this backstory in my head of how she got in through some sort of trickery involving cheating at a tournament by poisoning her final opponent. she is determined to get into the academy by any means necessary to escape her hometown and her family and hopefully never return.
I would also be escaping my hometown and family, but probably through much less underhanded means. I would probably be like Ignatz where I just have relatively rich merchant parents or something who pay for me to get in because education is very important to them.
⚔: What will your Crest Weapons/Divine Weapons/Personal Weapons theoretically be? If you like, elaborate on the effects or powers they possess! (Does not need to be FE-mechanism compliant)
I do not think either of us would have any! both of us would be crestless commoners. no personal weapons really come to mind, which I think is fine. I think it's kind of cool not to have any.
🗺: What will your paralogue be about? If you're sharing it with someone else, who will that be?
I mentioned this one earlier but it took me a bit to actually figure it out. it would definitely revolve around my dog, Barfie, the cutest sweetest smilingest baby boy in the universe. we have heard about some fantastic mythical treat that is the sweetest in all the land, and we are determined to get it for him!!! along the way we encounter some trouble, or maybe it's just guarded by monsters or whatever. the reward for the paralogue would be a consumable item that permanently increases all stats by a large amount!

If you're like actually interested in therapy I can suggest a couple of places that can be a good start! You're states local mhmr (mhmr is Texas specific but every state will have something similar. Mhmr stands for my health my resources and I don't remember what the hell the SC version is). Not every states version is good, however. Through mhmr I was able to get med help, which meant I didn't pay a single cent for my meds. I was also able to find help to get on disability or to find a job if I needed. Here in SC I can barely find a decent place for therapy, Just Therapy, let alone med management. Which isn't surprising. Ever want to see why a Christian Country wouldn't work just come to fucking SC. There is also an app called teladoc, it is NOT like BetterHelp, especially since it helps you find doctors in mental health, general health, and dermatologist, there's a fourth one I just can't remember what it is currently. I found a psychologist or the other thing?? Idk anyway I found someone to help me manage my meds through teladoc and w/out insurance it was 230. My first psyche even w/ insurance was 200. I've only had one app tho so that might change depending on the help I need lmfao, but therapy isn't usually Super Expensive. There's also the website psychologytoday.com that can help you find therapist in your area and sometimes they have the price listed and sometimes you have to call because they have to go through your insurance and such. The website also offers the ability to look for therapist that specialize in certain things, such as trauma, lgbt, depression, relationship issues, and basically anything else that is a specialization, which is everything lmfao. If you just wanted asks and this was stupid long winded way to get to it... sorry aha
What's your favorite sweet?
thank you so much anon, i wish i could actually use this, but i have parents who refuse to believe i'm neurodivergent even as i very clearly have ocd, anxiety, and show signs of depression, adhd and autism. and when i try to bring that up, they say that those are "serious issues" (as if i dont know that) and i'm being silly. so yes i am very much screwed but thank you again <3
hmm probably kaju barfi, idk if you know about that, it's like a cashew based sweet cut into a rhombus. what about yours?

I have loved everything you have written, thank you so much.
I was wondering if we could see Anthony and Kate telling the Bridgeton’s about the baby. And what either the sharma’s or bridgertons would say about hearing Kate said no to Anthony’s marriage request.
Would this also mean there would be a small (2/3 years) age gap between the baby and hyacinth?
Okay, I hesitate to ask this, but wuld anyone be interested in seeing this as an actual fic??
Like another AU of my AU?
Anyway!
Yes! So this would make little Edmund about 3 years younger than Hyacinth! And look, neither the Sheffield Sharmas or the Bridgertons love the timing of this pregnancy. Kate will be just 20 when Edmund is born and Anthony just turned 20 a month ago (Anthony might have been visiting for his birthday when this little slip up occurred, who can say) But it's done now. And shaming them about it isn't going to get them anywhere. They need support, not shame. To say the least, Mary was a little surprise when Kate hissed He asked me to marry him and I said no.
But let's see how Edmund and Violet take it.
Edmund had known the second he'd seen Anthony and Kate this morning, that something had happened. Anthony was hovering around Kate, which wasn't unusual, they always had an odd sort of magnetic reaction to one another, moving gently in time without the need to communicate. But this was different, he was hovering over her anxiously, forcing her to eat, to drink water, watching her so carefully, twitching even, whenever she went to the bathroom. And then there was the way Kate seemed to be watching Hyacinth so closely. Edmund's mind had wondered, racing, and then everything clicked, when Anthony said, so carefully to Kate
"Are you going to be okay, if I go?" When Violet had asked him to take Gregory to get an ice cream after lunch. Kate had nodded, though she looked a little alarmed. More timid than he'd seen her, even when she'd first shown up on their doorstep, embarassedly clutching her backpack and her stepmother's barfi.
Edmund cleared his throat as Violet and Anthony left, Gregory and Hyacinth trailing between them.
"How far along are you?" Even with his very gentle voice, her mouth dropped open, tears springing to her eyes. "How did you know?" Her voice shook a little, her hand resting likely subconsciously on her stomach. Edmund couldn't help but laugh. "Katie, I've got 8 children. Do you really think I wasn't every bit as anxious as Anthony every time?" She smiled weakly.
"I'm 8 weeks." Her voice so small, staring down at the table in front of her. "I feel like I've ruined Anthony's life." The admission seemed wrenched from her chest, tears rolling down her cheeks as she swiped at them. And Edmund couldn't help but ache for this young woman, who loved his son so much, and didn't know what to do. "I want this baby. I do, Mr. Bridgerton, but I've ruined everything, and I'm so sorry."
"You haven't ruined anything. If I know my son, he's absolutely thrilled to be a Dad." Edmund said, his heart leaping at the idea of his son, so serious already, as a father. Anthony would be beautiful, even now.
"He says he is. And I know he loves me, and I love him, but still, He wants to defer university so I don't have to and I don't know what to do... This wasn't supposed to happen I just... I don't know what to do?" Her tears were coming more heavily now.
"And I know I hurt him because I wouldn't marry him, and it all just feels like such a mess!" Edmund startled, Anthony had proposed? Oh he must be hurting. "Have you told your Dad sweetheart?" Kate nodded vigorously. "Last night. He says there's no point worrying now, and he's a bit excited to be Papa Tom." Edmund couldn't hep but laugh, Thomas Sheffield loved his daughters more than anything, of course he was this supportive. It made his job even easier.
"Just so you know I am very excited to be Papa Edmund." Katie smiled gratefully, her tears slowing. "Why did you say no to Anthony?" She looked so young, so stricken as her shoulders heaved. "Because he did it because he thought he should. And I don't want him to feel forced into it. I want Anthony to marry me because he wants to. I love him Mr. Bridgerton. I love him so much it hurts and I already love this baby it's just... it's a lot."
Edmund nodded. Kate had always been a little too wise for her age, it was one of the reasons she was such a good match for Anthony, how could he begrudge her that now?
"Women who have my grandchildren get to call me Edmund." He nudged her shoulder with her own. "Your parents are going to be there with you every step of the way, Kate. And so are Violet and Me. We love you and Anthony and this baby is going to be so loved."
She nodded, relaxing as he wrapped her in a tight hug.
"And just by the way, I'm sure Anthony fumbled the question, but he wants to marry you, and when the timing's right, he'll ask again."
She nodded again, wiping at her eyes, a small smile on her face. "I'm kind of excited to be a Mum."
Edmund smiled brightly, "Tell me about it, Tom and I are going to be the hottest grandpas out there."
And finally, she laughed.

Okay, I think jinkook would be for desi-boyz, for 3-idiots maybe the maknae line or joon/jin as rancho, suga as raju and hobi as farhan.. I think jimin/tae would really suit any srk character because they have a very natural/genuine flirty charm with is a must for romance flicks.. 94 line for student of the year —munda 6 foot da *kukkad plays* that's our boy joon right there! Or even tae/jk? Or tae/jimin?
I don't why but suga or jin for lootera(?) Jin/joon for ra one —I've watched one too many chamak challo edit on instagram for the boys. Tae for jab we met.. koo for wake up sid and rockstar —i think jungkook really could take up any role because he's such a versatile personality in real life that I think it'd translate well over screen too. You can have him as a Don, as ranbir in yeh jawaani hai deewani or even barfi or tamaasha or rockstar or bachna ae haseeno. I think jungkook could pull off many ranbir kapoor movies. Joon/jin for Krish, those broad shoulders and physique is required for the very few superhero-ish movies that we have. Again Jin for Dhoom 2, I can see him being the white sculpture in that museum very clearly! Hobi or Jimin for Kaabil, Jinkook for war, Jin for guzaarish, Joon for ghajini, Jimin for fanaa, tae for Taare Zameen par!
I haven't really watched much bollywood movies in the recent years 😅 so all my thoughts are from older movies —but I'd like to know what you think, maybe on a later date I'll make a better list and send in another ask but this all from the top of my head!
I hope you are doing well and thank you giving me a good brain exercise while I commute to university 😂
OMG HELLO HI!! I just want to say, I appreciate how you went in on this ask and left no detail untouched! It was so much fun to read.
I'm gonna put my response to everything (yay!!) under the cut:
1) OKAY JINKOOK DESI BOYZ AU IS GONNA HAPPEN... AT SOME POINT
2) Rapline as the 3 idiots pls 🥺🥺🥺. I think Joon is perfect as Rancho... just the right amount of cute and awkward. I think Yoongi seems like more of a Farhan to me though!! I always see him as the introspective one.
3) YESSSS.... I always imagine Tae as Raj from DDLJ (this is partly based on that clip of him playing the violin in a beret lmao) but he fits the nostalgic romance vibes so well. I see Jimin as more of the flirty, fun SRK roles like Dil To Pagal Hai or KKHH!
4) 94s in SOTY would be so interesting! I can definitely see Joon in Sid's role, but I'm unsure about Hobi as Varun. I like to imagine Taekook in those roles haha... all the girls would go crazy over them LMAO
5) OK this is shameless self-promo but I've actually always loved Hobi for Lootera. So much so I even wrote an entire fic, Autumn Leaves with him as the protagonist in Varun's role (it's one of my favorite things I've ever written). I think Yoongi/Jin would also be great choices though.
6) Maybe I'm a diehard hyung line stan, but I want Namjoon as Aditya! I actually think Tae would be more perfect in Geet's role - how fun would it be to see the roles reversed between them!
7) Jungkook is so versatile - he'd be perfect for wake up sid... or even Rockstar (I am a secret devotee of that movie I think it's so underappreciated). I've also imagined Yoongi in the Rockstar role. The one role I think JK totally embodies is Bunny in YJHD though, so you hit the nail on the head with that (it's one of my favorite movies!)
8) JOON FOR KRRISHH!! We've all seen his body. Nuff said.
9) I think maknae line would be so fun for Dhoom 2! Like maybe Vmin as Jai and Ali, and Kook as Hrithik?? I just see them being both comedic but also good eye candy for those high octane-action scenes.
10) I haven't watched Kaabil! I totally agree with JinKook for War though, that would be a great role, especially because they have such a good hyung-dongsaeng relationship, so it'd be interesting to turn that on its head.
11) JIN FOR GUZAARISH THO??? ARE YOU TRYING TO MAKE ME CRY (Seokjin angst is my fatal weakness).
12) Jimin would be so good for Fanaa... i'd love to see his transformation from the flirty tour guide to (no spoilers).
13) TAE IN TAARE ZAMEEN PAR YESSSS. I can't watch that movie without crying and now thinking of Tae makes me cry even more he'd be so perfect
Thank you so much for sharing all your thoughts, I appreciated the amount of effort you put into thinking this through and it made me happy to respond. Glad I could keep you occupied for a little bit with some fun <3
WHICH BOLLWOOD MOVIE WOULD YOU CAST BTS IN? ✨

2, 22 and 28 for the ask game
hello fellow buddy!!! thanks for the ask <3
2. an album you wish you could hear again for the first time
oh my god, okay so i think it would be my personal anoushka shankar's playlist that i made for emotional support, then it would be katyar kaljat ghusli (2015), balgandharva (2010), barfi (2012), and like a bunch of specific songs.
22. name a song that reminds you of one of your best memories
i answered 22 here, im basically yearning there for like multiple paragraphs so dont mind me.
but for a seperate answer, kaahe chhed (devdas 2002) has a lot of memories. like over almost a decade. so there's a lot to unpack there. from dance workshop juice breaks, to stubbed toes while the bed witnesses me dance, from stolen dance sessions when nobody watches, to enacting the dance in my bed and saving myself from breakdowns, from crying over missed opportunities and a long lost thread to dance, and to finally dancing to kaahe chhed in love, with love and for love. that song has history and i relive it every single time i listen to it and i blend into the flow.
28. name a song (or a few songs) that would need to be included in a movie about your life
most of the songs mentioned in the previous asks and this one are like extremely essential to get the goki juice right. yearning, love, a bit of indian classical, soft pop, you know the kind. but you dont have goki without the sarod theme (piku). @spiderrpcrker was right

If you get this, answer with 3 random facts about yourself and send it to the last 7 blogs in your notifications, anonymous or not! Let's get to know the person behind the blog!
1. I hate a lot of things most people apparently like...? I don’t really get that, but my friends say hating Reeces Peanut Butter Cups is disgraceful. I do not agree. I strongly dislike popcorn, white chocolate, honey, s’mores, gingerbread, marshmallows, cheez-its, Oreos, cheerios (also just cereal in general), chocolate ice cream, any type of pudding, donuts, peanut butter, sprinkles, and to all the Indian people, Kaju katli, rusgulla, and any barfi that does not contain coconut (I don’t know why, I just like coconut).
2. My name is Ashlesha- I have never met a single person who pronounced it right the first time, so I usually go by Ash.
3. I epically suck at basketball even though I’m kinda tall. It gets really annoying when people look at me and say, “Wow, you’re so tall, you must be great at basketball!” But I do play volleyball. (pretty well if I do say so myself)
Also, thanks for the ask @marvelpjostarwarsobssessed

And sometimes I get asks when I reblog a post or two and write in the notes that I’m sad or I’m having a rough time, like when it’s around exams, and then one or two sweet people come into my inbox and tell me that they like me/my blog and that they hope I feel better and Every Single Time I’m always so surprised and happy and I just aksjflsjkfdskjfksdfjsk

Barfi movie review and how I officially fell in love wtih Ranbir Kapoor
I gotta confess I heard about this movie A LOT but I only recently sat down to watch it because I was thirsting after Ranbir ( although tbh like a good 80% of the movies I’ve watched were because I was thirsting for some actor. I’m basic, I know moving on.)
This is obviously going to have spoilers so don’t read if you haven’t seen the movie
So basically the movie is about the love triangle between Barfi a deaf/mute man played by Ranbir Kapoor, Shruti a girl who is engaged played by Ileana D’Cruz and Jhilmil (which is suuuuuch a pretty name to me idk why I just think it’s really cute) an autistic girl and heriess to her grandfater’s fortune played by Priyanka Chopra. The movie is told largely through flashbacks and present day interviews with people who knew Barfi.
So in like the early 70s Shruti and her family moving to Darjeeling while she waits to get married in 3 months to this dude named Ranjit and she meets Barfi, the local troublemaker who instantly falls for her but at first Shruti is like fam you need to chill. Eventually he wins her over with his big personality and they end up making out by her lake which was v v sexy. Anyway homegirl’s hatin ass mom finds out about it and she basically tells her to dead the whole thing b/c she doesnt think Barfi will be able to provide a good life for her or her future children because of his disabilities (which was honestly soo rude).
And then she takes Shruti to see some logger guy that she used to mess around with back in the day who she didnt marry for the same reason (like we really need to talk about older female characters in movies who dont marry the love of their lives and then up being bitter and hateful towards young people in love).
Anyway, Barfi comes over to Shruti’s house wanting to propose to her and ask for her parents’ blessing and honestly this scene had a young bitch in tears because he came in so confident and sure that everything was gonna go his way but Hatin Ass Mama gives him a cold dose of reality and completely shits on him. And then to make it worse he sees Shruti with her Flop Ass Fiancé and that breaks him even more. She tries making some weak ass excuse but anyway she marries Count Flopula and she and Barfi go separate ways.
Meanwhile shit just keeps getting worse for my homeboy Barfi. His dad’s kidneys are failing so he has to quickly hustle some dough to get him a surgery. Naturally he decides to rob a bank but when that doesn't go well he decides to kidnap Jhilmil for ransom which was funny b/c some-one else was already kidnapping her and he just comes along like well shit lucky break
So he actually gets the money for his dad’s operation but because this movie has no fucking chill his dad dies before Barfi can get to the hospital. Feelin all sad and shit Barfi decides to leave Jhilmil with one of her old caretakers and dip but Jhilmil just ends up following him so that doesnt work out. So then he ends up taking care of her and then they live together for 6 years which was so so sooo cute. Like honestly the scenes where he and Jhilmil were living together were honestly my favourite parts of the movie.
Anyway so one day he runs into Shruti who at this point is predictably depressed because her marriage to Count Flopula is dull as shit and the whole time she never stopped loving Barfi. Then she starts hanging out with Barfi and Jhilmil and basically visiting them everyday which was low-key awkward for me to watch because like Shruti sis, you had your chance with him girl now please stay in your lane.
So anyway one day they’re out at this festival and Barfi is paying way more attention to Shruti so Jhilmil just gets completely over it and dips (which, me too girl, you not going to pay more attention to your old thing in my face and just have me stand there like a lame). Finally realizing Jhilmil is missing, Barfi runs around trying to find her but can’t so Shruti reports her missing which ends up starting a whole bunch of bullshit b/c this cop that’s been looking for Jhilmil for 6 years shows up and arrests Barfi for kidnapping and they proceed to beat the shit outta my mans in jail trying to force him to confess (thanks a bunch Shruti).
So then they get another ransom letter while they’re interviewing Barfi, and while the cops and her dad were trying to hand off the money Jhilmil is somehow killed. Which I was in complete disbelief off like no tf they didnt. I was fr fr ready to swing on the director(Anurag Basu square tf up bitch!).
So then the head inspector wants to pin Jhilmil’s death on Barfi even though he clearly didnt do it but the cop that arrested Barfi tells Shruti to take him away so he can escape because he grew really found of Barfi over the years of chasing after him for other shit.
So Shruti does just that and at first she’s hella geeked b/c with Jhilmil “dead”, she now has Barfi all to herself (which Shruti girl get help b/c that is really messed up). But her time with Barfi ends up being not what she thought it would be at all because he’s (naturally) super depressed about what happened to Jhilmil. Like he doesn’t believe that she’s really dead so he keeps looking for her. Eventually they end up at the group home that Jhilmil spent most of her life at and they discover that she’s actually alive! (Yay Jhilmil!) And I really screamed at that part because he was so so happy when he saw her and the scene where they’re just standing with their foreheads touching like, I was so emotional.
Anyway we find out that the whole thing (the first attempted kidnapping and the ransom letter) was a scam between Jhilmil’s dad and the owner of the group home. Her dad wanted to get her inheritance b/c Jhilmil’s grandpa left him and her mom dust and they faked her death so they could get Jhilmil away from her alcoholic mother and make sure she was properly cared for which was sweet but still a little fucked if you ask me.
Anyway Barfi and Jhilmil end up getting married in one of the cutest (i know i’m using cute a lot I promise I have a more advanced vocabularly) weddings ever and Shruti basically spends the rest of her life alone, regretting that she didn’t end up with Barfi (which is hella sad but, you made your choice sis) . So cut to the present where Barfi is old and really sick in the hospital and everyone is worried that he’s going to die. Jhilmil shows up and honestly she didnt even look that old, they literally just gave Priyanka a dusty salt and pepper wig and glasses and was like you’re old now. So she’s climbs into bed with him and then, Notebook-style with Shruti narrating, they..die? (Like really Anurag Basu?) I mean the credit roll with all the happy memories between Jhilmil and Barfi was everything so I guess it makes up for the ending (but next time do better hoe)
So finally thoughts; I fucking LOVED this movie. It was such a full adventure and it looked beautiful! It just made me feel so happy watching it despite some of the really sad parts. If you liked the movie Amelie (which is probably one of my favourite movies) you’ll definitely enjoy watching Barfi because they’re really similar in cinematography, soundtrack and tone. Like they both left me feeling very warm and hopeful. Also s/o to Ranbir for his acting in this like, my man really put his foot in that and also to Priyanka because bitch! What a change. Like when I started watching I had to google if that was really PC b/c I’ve literally never seen her look like that. Also it was really confusing too beause at first I wasn’t sure how old Jhilmil was supposed to be because she looks a smooth 13 years old and the thought of a love story line between her and between her and Barfi was like girl no, but then I understood she’s supposed to be like 18 or older. But anyway I’m glad I watched it and this just proves that sometimes thirst watching really can help you uncover something great!

Pregnancy Blog FAQ
Hello! It’s not really my style to directly address my supposed “readers” but a lot of things have changed in the last few months, so this is a different sort of blog.
I dropped off the map for awhile because 1. I am pregnant and 2. You’re not supposed to TELL anyone you’re pregnant until you’re like, 3 months along. My quiet, barfy misery was mine alone. My mom was like, “you should journal everything” but I was like “CAN’T. BUSY SLEEPING 12 HOURS A DAY” which, actually, still holds true today despite this rumor I heard about my energy returning in the 2nd trimester. Anyway, in the interest of SAVING some of my energy, I thought I would answer a few questions I’ve been getting asked since I announced.
^ Would’ve been a great “It’s a girl! announcement, no?
Q. Were you guys trying?
A. We weren’t NOT trying. It was just a matter of observing my Clue app and me being like, I don’t want to have a Pisces (sorry Mom, sorry Char - you’re just very emotional) baby so we can stop using condoms on this date.
Q. When did you find out?
A. It woke up really queasy a Saturday when Tim was in Thailand. I bought my *last meal at Gelson’s and a pack of three tests. The first one to know the news was technically Ryan and Charlene’s cat, Phil, who I was cat-sitting while they were away.
*The last meal was sushi, and I knew I couldn’t eat it if test came out positive.
Q. What is it?
A. An avocado! Just kidding, but that’s what size it is at 16 weeks now. It’s a boy.
Q. Did you want a boy?
A. I wanted a girl because I AM A GIRL and ALL I KNOW is girls, but you know what? That’s what I get for following Gwen Stefani’s family planning trajectory. Also, believe it or not, this process is so FRAGILE in the beginning (or all the way through?) that you really, truly get to a point where you’re like “does it have all the parts and is it breathing and is it healthy?!” Gender doesn’t quite matter as much. The fact that you GET to the week where you can ID it’s gender feels like an accomplishment of its own.
Q. Have you thought of names?
A. Fortunately, about 2 weeks before we actually found out it was a boy, Tim and I finally considered that it MIGHT actually NOT be a girl so we should discuss names. We have a short list. Our “hell no” list is a lot longer. We have a short list and when the Wilde One shows his face, we will pick from that list.
Q. How have you been feeling?
A. EXHAUSTED. I can get a *solid 10 hours of sleep and still find it IMPERATIVE that I take a nap at 2pm.
*I get up to pee at least 3 times
Q. Any weird cravings?
A. This baby has me eating totally different things then I did before. It’s like being bodysnatched. But these things have included: Pickles, peaches, potatoes in various forms, pasta, raisin bran, tapioca pudding, popsicles, jimmy john’s veggie subs, cheetos, chow mein, garlic bread, cheese and crackers, cucumbers, pluots, Del Taco quesadillas. As of week 14 I’ve been able to eat exactly 5 salads, and 2 of them have been from BJ’s. Olive Garden, you’re next.
Q. Aversions? A. Most vegetables. Vegan cheese. Fish. Hot eggs. The kind of salsa I like changes EVERY week. TACO BELL TASTED DIFFERENT UNTIL WEEK 15!
Q. Are you showing?
A. From my view, you BET. Such an odd question when you don’t necessarily start with admirably flat abs, know what I mean? And then there’s the hormones and bloating. Anyway, week 14 I had to spring for some maternity jeans. Rent The Runway has a pretty decent maternity selection and I have some very generous friends who’ve lent me their bella bands, maxi dresses and maternity tops. BLESS.
Q. Are you still doing yoga/hiking/working out?
A. Yoga, yes. Via yogaglo.com and some prenatal classes at One Down Dog, Kinship, The Yogi Tree. But the rest of my time is spent sleeping.
All in all, it’s a very interesting but peculiar time, especially for someone who’s had a tumultuous relationship with their own body. Pregnancy is a time in your life you literally CAN’T NOT listen to your body, because it always COMMUNICATING SO LOUDLY. Sleep! Peaches! Barf! Bad smells! Nap! Headache! Uncomfortable! Carbs! Nap!
Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

Blind Date Gaming: Donkey Kong Land 2
So, following last week's date, let's revisit the concept of dating a well-known person. This time, though, let's put a spin on it by saying you're dating a famous person's...what, brother or sister? Or would this just be some similarly-named person? I have no idea; there's kind of no need to make some coy introduction to this week's date. It's Donkey Kong Land 2!
The Donkey Kong Country (DKC) games are popular SNES titles. So popular, in fact, they spurred the Donkey Kong Land titles, handheld versions of the same sidescrolling, platforming fun. I had Donkey Kong Land as a kid myself, though I've never played the others. Where the original had new level concepts and enemies, this sequel seems to be more of a port. The levels are thankfully redesigned a bit to take the Game Boy's limited screen real estate into mind, though; the level concepts are the same with different layouts of obstacles and such. As such, it felt kind of like a ROMhack of DKC2.
After playing some of these levels, all I can say is: man, King K.Rool has some really looooong ships
Luckily this game is MUCH more visually clear than its Game Boy predecessor. The prequel tried to wow players with their fancy 3-D graphics so bad that it was impossible to tell the background from the foreground. Having a palette of 4 colors will do that. Here, they usually reserve black for important actors or objects, so everything is easily discernible. The backgrounds are usually only light colors, which is a godsend.
Well, usually
So how was the game, then? Well, it was amazingly fun! I had a leg up since I've played through DKC2 a few times, so the levels' gimmicks were already known to me. However, I very infrequently found things unfair. Hit detection was forgiving, the enemy placement was fine, the platforming was good, and the controls were tight. There were some programming deviations from the original, though, that took some getting used to. I feel like Dixie's ponytail was nerfed a bit, as I swear you used to be able to use it any time you were in the air. Here, you can only use it if you start a jump (not if you fall off a platform). The jumps all seem to have a given height, too, so there's less control over short hops and such.
Do...do you see that face in the background? It stares into my soul....
The bosses were a bit different, which was fine. They seemed just the right level of toughness and killed me a few times getting used to their patterns. They're a bit stiffly-animated, though, probably due to the limited space on the Game Boy carts. Like, you can bust a half-dozen eggs against the one pirate bird and she doesn't flinch. I swear I saw shell shrapnels sticking out of her bulging eyes and the lass just kept truckin'. Or, uhh...pirate shippin’? Guess that's how she became captain.
Can't make an omelette without...sacrificing your own young?
An interesting addition I feel I must mention is the merging of the swamp and lava worlds. I get it -- you had no space for the one boss fight against Capt. Clubface. But why does the seeping lava just kind of turn into a muddy swampland? I don't think that's how Earth Science works? Like according to several crafting games, there should be some obsidian layer or something there.
Yeah, no, the water's all the same color anyway. Stop asking questions.
I got about halfway through, to the spooooky forest world. I had to nip my completionist tendencies in the bud halfway through the second world when I found myself going back into levels to find all the DK coins and secrets. I kept forgetting that I only had one night to play this! But, like, finding the secret objects was fun, so it was a struggle!
Thanks to the Super Game Boy palette, the swamps retain the original barfy green color!
Anyway, that should be a clear indication that I would definitely go on another date with this one. I wasn't sure this would be the case going in with my prior Donkey Kong Land experience, but I was pleasantly surprised by how coherent this title was. I'd be interested what it's like to someone who hadn't played DKC2. Good luck finding someone fitting that bill with how popular DKC2 was, though!
I'm interested in the laws of Kremland here. Are Kremlings forced to attend a schooling system? Do they have vocational school that allow them to become pirates? Must they pay their college loans back with banana coins?
Thus concludes my limited time with one of the classic titles. Thanks for going on this odd new trip down memory lane with me, despite that not making sense! For sticking through, I'll grant you this Sprite of Passage. Use it to get a free college credit at Kong Kollege. Get a second Bachelors of Science degree or somethin'. Then you, too, can exit into the work force with a bunch of BS!
awww, he just wants a hug

Hello my Readers,
We are already in the mid of January and with it begins the festive season of the calendar 2017. My entire nation (well by nation here I am referring India) is pumped up with the glory of celebrating the winter harvest festivals. Whether it is Lohri in the North, or Sankranti in the West, East and Central, or Magh Bihu in the North-East or Pongal / Bhogi down the South; whatever be the name, it’s indeed the season of joy and feasting across the country. I find a common bond in all these winter festivals – and that is – ‘Food’ !! With food I remember all those yummy Ladoos, Barfis, Kheer/Payasam, Chikkis, Rabri, Malpowas, Pithas, Halwas, Jamuns ….. (I can go on and on !!!)
To my readers, as you all know I hail from the north-eastern part of India called Assam, I have been celebrating Magh Bihu since my early childhood. This festival used to give me an aura of joyfulness and jubilation along with the sense of satisfying my hunger and taste buds with scrumptious eateries thereby giving me a gourmet meal !! Sounds delicious right ?
Let me first introduce you to the much under-rated winter harvest festival of India – Bihu. Why I quote this under-rated ? You might have not heard much about this festival but trust me it is as colorful and joyous as any other harvest festival of India. Bihu is the regional festival of Assam. It is generally celebrated 3 times in a year – One in January along with Lohri and Pongal, another in April along with Vishu and Easter and the third one in November. The one celebrated in January is called Magh Bihu, the one in April is called Bohag Bihu and the one in November is known as Kati Bihu. This classification is primarily based on the crop cycle or the cycle of harvest.
Each Bihu has its own significance : With the Magh Bihu signifying more of feasting and merry-making, to the Bohag Bihu implying more of dancing, singing and welcoming the Spring to the Kati Bihu indicating lesser merriment and an atmosphere of constrain and solemnity. So you see, with each Bihu is associated the sentiments of the people of Assam. Bihu is not just a festival; to us, it is an association of our emotions and temperaments to the soil of our state.
This Magh Bihu (which is today), I prepared few homemade sweets and delicacies which I love to hog anytime of the day. Literally, I can finish an entire bowl of Kheer in a matter of no time say 5-10 minutes max !! Sounds crazy right ! I am a big fat all-time foodie ! I am never a pro in cooking and so I always like to cook dishes that are simple and can be done within a lesser span of time. Kheer, Malpowa with Rabri, Patishapta and Ladoos are what I can cook with ease – reason being I have been practicing them over years now and eventually I manage to cook them pretty well… I think I can !!!
This Bihu is all about yummy tummy…when the granaries are all stuffed and all the yummy food gets to enter your tummy, it is a sight of gastronomic delight for you ! So, foodies keep an eye on this festive time of the year when you get a chance to indulge yourself with all sorts of Good Food ! Slurrppp :-D
Magh Bihu, in many terms, is similar to Lohri of North India wherein we burn Bonfire and offer prayers to Fire and Sun God. A day before this Bihu, huge Bonfires, called Meji, are made out of hay in open fields or in the front yards of the houses. Let me tell you, people usually here have small houses and not high-raised building because this part of the Himalayan belt is so prone to earthquakes. The following day, people wake up early in the morning before the sunrise, take bath in water soaked with sesame seeds, put on new clothes and gather in open fields to burn the Meji. The bonfires are lit, people circle around the bonfire and throw puffed rice and betel nuts into it, and worship the Sun God and the God of Fire asking for protection and thanking Him for giving a colorful harvest season. I remember running to the paddy fields (near my house) early in the morning only to catch a glimpse of this huge Meji burning down to ashes. This used to give me cheap thrills and excitement to jump start the day on a positive note !!
Pic source : Google
To me, this time of the year would, most importantly, mean eating a lot of sweets and delicacies prepared by my grandma (my maternal grandma who is no longer alive and I terribly miss her quite often; she was so very closely associated with me…! Well emotions apart) and hoping from one house to another in my neighborhood just to fill my pockets with the Ladoos ! I would stuff my tummy to the maximum extend I could…yes, you heard me right… I used to eat as much as I could, those were the days… little was I bothered about my weight ! Anyways, I am now on a strict diet :-D This saga of eating and merry-making used to continue for week long along with many other wild sports like buffalo fights, cock fights, nightingale fights and so on.
Thus, we see India is truly a land of diversity and culture not only in terms of language, customs and traditions but also in festivals, food habits and celebrations. How many of us ever knew that there is a winter harvest festival quietly celebrated in the North-Eastern part of India (Assam) along with Lohri, Sankranti and Pongal ? How many of us ever paid a close attention to the festival Bihu? How many of us have known Assam to be a state of India ? Well, not many ! Let me tell you, Assam not only has the festival Bihu, but also a whole lot of greenery and natural beauty that will make you go ‘WoW’, and I am pretty sure you would be bowled over by its tourism and tranquility — be it the one-horned Rhino of Kaziranga or the aromatic tea leaves of the hills — you ought to visit this place to discover its beauty !!!
Happy Harvesting Week to all my readers. Have a luminous feasting and indulge yourself completely in merry-making !
Love and Peace from me to you on this occasion.
Nabanita
As India Celebrates Winter Harvest ! Hello my Readers, We are already in the mid of January and with it begins the festive season of the calendar 2017.
