Ineffable May Day 11: Book of Job

[S2 Ep 2. A Companion to Owls minisode. Aziraphale and Crowley heading back after Job's house is destroyed.]

Crawly stumbled up the slight rise behind the angel, the extraordinary amounts of wine he had drunk through the night making him watch his feet carefully. 

"Oh, my God!" The angel spoke with a trill of fear. 

Crawly blinked to resolve the wavering landscape into stillness. "Blasphemy, angel? That's not like..." he squinted at the bright tableau before them "...you." 

"No, look. Ohhh," the angel breathed. "My God!" 

Crawly looked. Ahead stood Job, looking extremely confused, bathed in a beam of holy light. And there was a Voice.

It had been so long. A millennia and a half since he'd slithered up to Eden. And the unaccountable, timeless age before that, after his Fall. He was surprised he was even allowed to hear it. 

Crawly sobered up without even knowing it, rooted to the spot. "Is God actually..."

"I think so."

"...talking to him?"

"I don't suppose he's getting any answers," the angel hazarded. 

"No." It was hard to breathe. "But just to be able to ask the questions."

DO YOU KNOW THE RULES OF THE HEAVENS? DID YOU SET THE CONSTELLATIONS IN THE SKY?

His fists clenched, claws digging into his palms. He could feel the scales manifesting all over his corporation as he hissed. A rush of white noise flooded his ears, shutting out the sounds. His blood, rising in rebellion. Awe and anger tore at each other, under his skin, in his ears. His wings mantled in the ether and he barely kept them from manifesting. Dimly wondered why he cared if they did.  

The light winked out and Crawly watched, numbly, as this human who'd been a - a plaything as much as any of them started stumbling back toward his home. 

No answers. But no Fall either. 

And that was just it, wasn't it? If what they'd done was so terrible, why were they still here at all? Punishment, right, yes, but letting a bunch of rebels wander freely around the place wasn't exactly smart was it?

He was sent up from the very beginning of God's little Earth experiment to toss contaminants in the test tube. It was especially his job to cock things up for the other side. 

Why was he even allowed?

... and that made his head hurt even more. Because if it was his job to mess up Heaven's plans, and Heaven was all-in on killing kids for a lark, then... 

No. He squeezed his head with both hands, hoping to keep his brains from draining out. He'd still get in the way because fuck that but not... not for any Ineffable Plan. 

Not for HER. 

Dislocation rolled over him. All the implications and resolutions, condemnation and resignation and desolation  - 

He was swept up in the flood, nowhere to keep his balance - 

"I - I really must get on," the angel said quietly, his face soft with care. Reaching out a hand, not quite touching his sleeve. 

A tiny part of Crawly was thankful because it gave him something to push off against.

He pulled a sneer and waved a hand away in dismissal. "Yes, yes, better fly back to your flock. Don't want that prat Gabriel getting any ideas." He grinned. "Of course, it would take a lot to pound anything into that thick head. Who thought making him Supreme Archangel was a good idea... Oh, wait, I do know." It was easier now he had his feet. 

"Really, Crawly," the angel tutted, looking nervously back at where the holy beam of light had fallen.

"What more do you think She would do, angel?" He tried to keep the levity, but faltered. Spoke more gently than he meant. "Go on, your lot are due to come gloat about how great She is or something equally nauseating." 

The angel looked at him a moment more, looking like he wanted to speak, then just turned and picked his way through the scattered rubble to the doorway of Job's ruined barn. 

He should leave. It was risky to linger with all that holiness getting splashed around. But he trailed after, anyway.

He'd just... listen in by the door. Make sure those prats didn't do anything stupid.

Here, everyone joined in, shouting, “We thank you!” thrice. The words rolled meaninglessly from Delia’s tongue as she watched the Elder Mother gracefully circle the bonfire that dominated the center of their Gathering. It threw sparks up into the glimmering sky, like they would dare to add new stars of their own. Elara became nothing but a curved silhouette speaking from behind a veil of smoke, before eventually re-emerging into the cool, dark night.

Official: Eden Hazard is leaving Real Madrid!

Another departure today, but this time definitely unexpected. "It's not how it suppose to be". These are the words that run through my mind in the context of Eden. One injury, one moment that destroyed everything. I don't know if the problem was in the head or the body couldn't take it anymore, but after that he wasn't the same player as before. I respect Eden for making this decision because we all knew perfectly well that another season wouldn't make any sense from a sporting point of view. I suspect it was also difficult because of his son Leo, who has found his place in Valdebebas in one of Real Madrid's junior teams and is already scoring beautiful goals. So we say goodbye to the Hazard family, who stole our hearts. His lovely wife Natacha and five wonderful boys Yannis, Leo, Samy, Santi and Ivan :) I'm keeping my fingers crossed that one of his sons will play at the Santiago Bernabeu and do what his dad didn't have a chance to do. Thank you Eden :)

The “in context” of Hazards statement doesn’t make it any better. Human rights aren’t a political issue. You’re just trying to make yourself feel better because you run an account dedicated to him/he’s your favorite. It was a shitty thing for him to say. And just to make it clear for you, him (which he’ll never see) and your followers;

HUMAN RIGHTS AREN’T A POLITICAL ISSUE.

Seems like you don't really know me or this blog at all. Otherwise you would know that I fully agree with "human rights aren't a political issue". I've criticised both FIFA for how they handle, well, pretty much everything tbh. Or the UEFA or the FIA for that matter bc I've been vocal on sports associations' shitty handling on homophobia, racism and other human rights issues long before this tournament started. And I've also criticised the DFB for having no backbone and not going through with the OL-armband. While I think that the DFBs gesture during the team photo was better than nothing, I still think they're fucking cowards and pretentious for bowing down to FIFA. You can believe me when I say that my disappointment and anger is immeasurable, especially as a queer mixed-raced woman.

Did I say it was a good thing for him to joke about it at all? No. Did I say that I agree with every word he said? No. I am disappointed he and the other captains did not wear the armband after all. My point when I shared the full interview was that I think it does paint a different picture, even if it's still not what you and I would have wanted to hear. I think that if we criticise someone for a quote, that we should at least know the whole context. The shortened version, made it look like he went to criticise the German national team for their gesture, maybe even unprompted, and as if he thinks they shouldn't have done it because he's against making a "political message". But it wasn't unprompted, he was asked about it. He said he actually liked the gesture. He said HE does not feel comfortable talking about "political" issues and that he thinks there are other people out there who are better suited for speaking out. And even though I would love to see more athletes speak out, I do not think it is every athlete's responsibility to do so. My focus on this issue is mainly on FIFA, UEFA and the national football associations who all have written in their statutes to condemn homophobia, racism and any other forms of discrimation, but still don't take action.

Also, I'm fine with you criticising me for something you think you can read from one single post of mine. But I suggest you don't make any assumptions about my followers not being on the right side when it comes to human rights violations.

And finally, now that we've covered the important issues, I want to thank you for amusing me by saying I'm running a blog dedicated to Eden Hazard and that he's my favourite. Quite frankly, before this issue, I can't remember the last time I mentioned his ass and I hate his club. Not that I would have to justify myself to anyone, especially not to someone hiding on anon, for being a fan of any athlete. I do have problematic faves, but Eden is not one of them.

Eden Hazard retires

Edenhazard announced his retirement at the age of 32 and made it official on Instagram with a message that said You must listen to yourself and say enough at the right time and thanked his former teams Lille, Chelsea and Real Madrid as well as the national team. Belgium. This has caused a lot of impact on soccer fans because Eden Hazard was considered one of the best players in the world. In an interview they asked him why he believed he was not playing well for Real Madrid and he answered that because More than he tried, he didn't know why he couldn't play well. In my opinion, there are times where things don't go well or you can be very good at something and then life doesn't take many turns anymore and you just have to understand that we are humano. And just because you stop being a good soccer player doesn't mean you are no longer a good human being.
