HOW AND WHY AND WHEN DID THE BYLER REALISATION HIT ME - RANT

okay this is long so skip to S4 section for the more interesting stuff/when i found out about byler!

hii okay my first post on this blog! im still pretty new to tumblr but learned that u can have multiple blogs and my mind is blown. i also have an art blog i post on once a millenia @milkymetari !

Ive been a stranger things fan since 2019 when i was 13!

So i started watching stranger things in 2019 after season 3 had came out and the series peaked my interest, ive always been a fan of scifi stuff and oh boy stranger things is so cool and (mostly) well written!

When i say i LOVED mileven im not kidding, I WAS OBSESSED. On the outside theyre a picture perfect cute teenage couple, and my idealisation of that (and cmon guys eleven is like the coolest character ever) and els badassness and powers, i loved mileven.

I mean as a concept their relationship is really cute if we read it as that but yeah i do NOT ship them anymore like that 😭

Yeah i remember myself sometimes wondering about the weird things in their relationship (the way they dont share almost any interests, only kiss and mikes weird actions) but i think due to heteronormativity (toxic ships are wayy too normalized also in lgbt media) and how poorly usually female characters (but in this case mike lmao) and their relationships are written in media so i guess i had just grown to try not to care, and yeah i was just 13.

So honestly i didnt see/know byler back then AT ALL! I grew up as a semi homophobic kid because thats what i was taught, but around the time i started watching ST i grew as a person a lot and i realised maybe my ass isnt as straight as i thought ☠️ Honestly wish i did know about byler since i think seeing mikes struggles (and wills) wouldve helped me a lot! 💔

I didnt think too deeply about any media i consumed at that age, and i was already used to just not care about bad writing so i thought flaws in mileven were normal writing mistakes etc. Or how the byler fight was clearly more intense than the mileven break up 😭😭

But again i did not catch onto it.

ST 4 in 2022!!

So the year is 2022 and i excitesly watch season 4 part 1. I usually try to avoid spoilers etc on the internet so i kept myself away from st tiktok and other platforms. After i finished it i saw like a shit ton of edits of all the characters and speculation about the last 2 eps.. THEN somewhere around that time it happened, i stumbled upon byler.

okay first, i need to talk about mileven a bit, the first few episodes it was sweet, but it was obvious el was lying and unhappy, i was hoping that mike would grow and learn to be a better boyfriend and theyd end up back together.

so about byler, first i thought it was like any other ship as usual and i wasnt as blind to homoerotic chemistry anymore so it wasnt anything new or surpricing.

well, what was surpricing was HOW FUCKING BLIND I HAD BEEN TO HOW MIKE AND WILL ACTED

i mean i was confused while watching part 1 for the first time but closeness between the two was nothing unusual, and mike lashing out on will had already happened in s3 too, but yeah i was so flabbergasted and embarrased how i hadnt noticed 😭 like girl, the lip staring, yearning gazes and awkward conversations

down the rabbit hole i went and hehe😈 i got my bestie into it too and she was like omg ur so right we both agree they are endgame bbecause like theres so much evidence its not a coincidence.

ill probably make a separate post on some of the genious thoughts we had about mileven and byler in 2022 lol

@thequeensjester obviously gotta mention you because your graphics are out of this world gorgeous!!! the way you make the colors pop, your use of textures, your fontwork, etc. i can go on for a while. truly you're so talented!! choosing a fave is too difficult, i'm in love with everything you make.

@elena-gilbert yet another super talented creator! looove your coloring style so much. also love how you aren't afraid to try out different fonts, effects or transitions!! my fave set is this one i'm obsessed with the yellow and how it pops. the coloring is truly gorgeous and that glitch on the last gif is so cool. and the quote choice is obviously perfect for them <3

@rithe ohh the way i'm in love with your edits, the cropping is exquisite!!! and i love your coloring so much. my fave are your song edits tho, they're soooooo pretty to look at. (this one in particular) i'm in love with that font you use. and the caps you choose are SO fitting!! gah 😍

Another year, another same template.

This Last year was pretty packed; I managed to get back into commissions (still catching up with waiting list though) and draw some gifts for friends. ^_^ While still being able to draw for myself!

Happy new year y'all. May your dreams come true and all. I'm not big on speeches. No talking, only ART.

Or, well. Some talking. Ramble again, like last year, under the cut.

January: ko-fi limited palette sketch commission overdue many years of mutual's OC. <3 Thankfully everyone's been so patient with my lack of speed. I'll do better next time, I promise!

February: COTL brainrot... I had an Anassy art I was thinking about putting in here but COTL was really so big in my life in February, I had to put my low-effort fanart in there... which surprisingly blew up in numbers. (Thank you 🛐)

March: didn't really draw anything in March except this OC art and a small fanart doodle, so decided to go with this one, with which I experimented with textures. I haven't shared this before and I don't think I will (sorry), but it's on Dia's (depicted OC) toyhouse.

April: birhday gift for friend I haven't talked to in years. This was a perfect opportunity to get back in contact and it worked out nicely. ^_^ In the art are her OCs from her story still in progress. Lineart and painting together works surprisingly well!

May: fun little drawing I had depicting my inkling OC as a human. ^_^ Sorry not sorry for the eyestrain-

June: boy, this month was THE OC month. I created so many here, I don't know what happened. The characters in here are one of them, my beloved Mortis Twins. They are an asura (Guild Wars 2) musical duo who play darkwave music about death and dying. ^_^ (<-Glitch stop writing this emoticon every time pls) Goth siblings beloved. This art is a promo shoot for their new era and album. Get yours signed at a local show now!!!

July: another birthday gift for a long time no contact/talk friend/mutual! Was super happy how this came out and for the recipient's reaction. <3 It's her VTuber! (Check her out at ChiikaboomTV on twitch)! I prefer not uploading birthday gifts and only sharing them privately to who I'm drawing them for but I might share this one sometime cuz I'm really prou of this one. I experimented with a new shading technique even, and it worked out just fine~

August: would you guess it? Another birthday gift for a long time no contact- ok you get the drill. Same shading technique, same-ly happy friend. ^_^ It's her main OC, Persephone Eddington, whom I love very much. <3

September: another overdue ko-fi commission! Despite the overwhelming details, I like how it came out~ I've always been so bad with great amount of detail and mecha stuff. x_x

October: birthday gift for my bestie leeche, depicting their Dragon Heist dragonborn character, Nephintaad Morzavur, whom I also love very much. <3

November: Guild Wars 2 Tyria Pride giveaway art! I offered a bust and wanted to go back to painting again, and the recipient loved it very much. The biggest compliment. <3 Included a lot of things important to the "commissioner's" player character and had a blast!

December: normal commission! I'm finally catching up with the waiting list. A bit saucy hehe but that's just icing, I swear!

My favourite setting is canon divergence (aged up Sakura but preserving their age gap) enemies to lovers. This is the reason I love Burning Daylight, Its canon for me ahah

I think it's crucial that Sasori acknowledges Sakura's power. I love when they fight, when they bicker, when they tease each other. Until they're so deep in love there's no way back and they join their sides. Sakura makes Sasori feel everything. Sasori makes Sakura accept her dark desires.

How is it already almost March omfg.

Anyways Happy Valentine's Day month!!! This year, I was swamped with work, so I didn't get a chance to make Valentine's Day art. I did make a Valentine's piece last year though.

BUT we did have beloved @magunalafay make these Valentine's Day cards this year for the community!!! <3 If you missed it, well Happy Valentine's Day!!!!!

She made these as a gift, and I love her very much. Maguna u r so talented

This month was pretty busy for me, but I'm super happy with the progress made this month ^^ I feel like I've started the year off in a pretty good groove after it being all over the place for a hot second, yay!!!

This past month, Etza and Druk's routes. With the revamped demo finishing its revisions, it left a lot more time for me to focus writing on full route development.

If you missed the announcement, I FINISHED Etza's first draft!!! YAAAYYY!!!! FINALLY!!!!!!

That means 4/6 routes are finished in terms of the base writing, which is so exciting to MEEEEE. I've always seen Etza's draft as The Milestone because with their route finished, it would mean the four Central routes are done writing. And to me, while there's a good chuck of writing left, we are nearing the end of it.

There's only two routes left and that means it's about ~100k words which is CRAZY compared to when I had ~300k to write (:cries:). Even if that sounds like a lot, once I start chipping away at those routes, that 100k goes into the "double digits" aka 90k...80k... etc. and that makes me want to pee my pants

We also finished editing Druk's route, yay!!! So we reached a lot of milestones this month ^^

We are nearing the end of the Vui background commissions. It's very bittersweet; I'm so used to mentioning him in my devlogs now </3 There's only like 3(?) more BGs left for him to make, and then all of the BGs for the game will be finished. Very Wild! I think Alaris will have 25ish BGs, and they are all Stunning.

It's been a while since I showed you all a BG, so I'll give you all a preview of one I just got in!

I personally have been doing a lot of sprite work this month to finish the final art assets for the demo. I added some expressions to Druk and Aisa that I'd been procrastinating (I don't even know why I was procrastinating them). And I finally finished Mom and Kimura's updated sprites! Patreon already saw them, but I'll show the new versions here too ^^

Aside from sprite work, much of my "art" time has been on finishing up/putting together the last of the screens for the GUI. Specifically, I got THIS BABY up and running. She is my crowning glory.

Oh my god.... You all have NO IDEA how much of a pain this was to code. There is a transparency gradient going on in the left and right B&W previews (courtesy of community programming angel feniks/shawna).

And then the effort to have the Titles and Descriptions of the Previewed Date change tilted me on Multiple Occasions. But we finally got it to work thanks to bestie @siyo-koy pointing out I just coded one stupid "if" statement wrong LJAFSLIEFJIEJ. But the effort was WORTH IT because I'm so proud of her!!! I hope you all like it too as a way to relive Free Time Dates. I had a lot of fun with the Titles and descriptions.

I also put together the Stats and Affection Screens

So I coded both of them a bit differently from each other. The Personality Screen shows you a breakdown of your traits so far. Think of it like a pie graph! So in the preview picture, your choices indicate you are 33% Brave, 16% Charismatic, etc. I felt like this was a more natural way to portray personality rather than how many bravery points you've collected so far!

And then for Affection, it works in a more traditional way, where it counts it based on how many you've gotten out of the total amount you can get. This way, as the story progresses, how close you are to the person reflects how much your relationship as developed!

I've also added little descriptions underneath each that change depending on the percentage. So for example, if you have gotten 82% of the affection points for Kuna'a, the description of your relationship might change as well hehe

Other than that, I've mainly focused on getting the demo together. We released the beta demo earlier this month (? LOL). And the feedback has been so kind!!

A lot of this month was spent polishing so that the demo can be ready for early access and eventually public release. I updated sprites, made sure music crossfades with each other so that transitions between soundtracks feel smoother, I added/polished all of the screens I needed to (e.g., Memory Room, Full Credits, Cleaning Music Room, Adding Stats Screens), and I FINALLY as of yesterday added the Voiced Lines!!

One thing I added in the Extended Demo that I'm really happy with is the use of Extended Pronouns (courtesy of Angel Feniks). Below is a preview of how it works now!

Basically, you can choose multiple pronouns for yourself, including custom pronouns (e.g., xe/xem, fae/faer, etc.). On top of that, you can choose how often you'd like the pronouns to alternate (e.g., every line versus every scene) and what kind of terms you'd like to be used for you (e.g., neutral vs. masculine vs. feminine)!

Overall, the demo is getting closer and closer to release!!! Early Access will hopefully be ready by the end of this week or next, so if you all would like access to it, please feel free to subscribe to my Patreon for this upcoming month! Available to Wyvern tier ($5) and up.

I didn't have any time to really play any games this month because I was drowning in work LMFAOSLJIEF. I did play the Threads of Bay demo by @lavendeerstudios and it was GORGEOUS! Very cute game with lovable characters and charming visuals. Andrew, I will have your number

Every other section was really long, so I'm going to throw it here even though it's not market research. But Intertwine recently hit 600 ratings, which is crazy. Even better" that's just so funny and silly, Luigi and Daisy as Carl and Ellie from Up, the one of them playing tennis, that Christmas one in which they look so cozy, and OF COURSE, your Luaisy wedding post that's just SO inspiring. I still want to write an entire story based on it 🤭💚🧡

Still, I'd say my top 3 Luaisy from you is: the suggestive one that you drew based on one of your fave celeb couples, the autumn comic of Daisy lending Luigi her scarf, and of course, the absolutely STUNNING piece you made for Vulpix's fic "A moment together." And I was just so HONORED the very first time you drew them reading together when I first shared this headcanon through an ask that I got on my old blog 🥹 Needless to say I cherish that drawing and the one from your friendship doodle like the treasures they are. Among your other pieces, I freaking LOVE the one you made of Mario wearing his Odyssey wedding dress and Luigi looking so mad he wasn't inviting him to the event 🤭 As well as Peach wearing her wedding tux and making Balloon Luigi spin in the air!! So so SO adorable and beautiful, and the one of ALL the characters dressed as Luigi is also PEAK 😂💚

I also remember fondly your Mar10 Day piece from last year and how PERFECT it was, as well as the post of Luigi being the sexiest man which is the greatest truth ever told 😌👌 And I think one of the first posts of yours that I saw was also a Luigi doodle in which he was surrounded by Daisy, Peasley and Bowser. LOVE that one, my friend 😂👏

Continuing with the bros, I love the one of Luigi being sleepy and Gooigi imitiating him, as well as your sketches of Mario, especially when he's SO angry 😳 The one of them wearing the raincoats is SO CUTE, and what can I say about them cuddling together in their hammock 🥹🥹 It warms my heart so much ❤️💚

Your recent trio doodle was SO COOL 👏👏👏 Luigi "sitting" like Charlie Day is so freaking hilarious 😂 I'm still not over the Chris Pratt joke OMG, I swear I'm still laughing to this day 💀 The princesses' picnic is so beautiful and delightful to look at, and even if it's older, I do like your drawing of Luigi and Toad from LM3!!

Sure, but not in the sci-fi kind of way. I think it is absurd to think Earth is the only planet in the infinity of space that met the right conditions for life to develop. But I doubt these forms looks like... humanoid-green/grey skin beings or that they look anything as we know on Earth. I don't even know if there's any 'developed' (in human's terms) form of life, but definitely things that feed and live. (Once again, I doubt they come on Earth with super technology and such... if they do, I really hope they see their mistakes before making first contact and go far far away, before getting involved with the toxic humanity...)

OMG! I'm really proud of this piece! So this was something I worked on for oof some time ago, I wanted to draw an outfit for Violet and then my bestie showed me a mask that she saw and well, it got a little crazy lol I swear don't give ideas on what outfit to draw my ocs in or design them, because I will go crazy with it XD It was a lot of fun designing Violet's outfit, I really wanted to make the outfit go with her powers, that being the user of Orochi hehe ;3 So you can see the skirt have a longer skirt cape with all eight pieces of fabric representing the heads of Orochi. They are all different elements in each of the piece, Poison, Wind, Lightning, Fire, Water, Earth, Darkness and Light. :3 And also, I of course added the moons and stars for her. You may also see a little feather on her earring, it represents her lover (You know who) and a scale of the eight headed serpent dragon. I have to thank my bestie @gorefolk the mask she sent me, I really love it and it looks so beautiful on her. Honestly, it's my new headcanon that this mask belonged to her mother Sorrow and she passed on to her youngest daughter. and that's a cool question! lemme answer ya real quick:

when anyone sends me an ask through the inbox, i'll usually draw stuff in my doodlebob artstyle, and the specifics of how the doodles are drawn will also depend on me. there's also no guarantee i'll draw the requests either for two (2) reasons:

1) if i've already drawn the same/similar idea. 2) if the ask is something i can answer in text form.

whereas if someone wants a commission, they pay the artist (me in this scenario) to draw the idea they have and they can be as detailed as they want since they're paying for the content they want to see from the artist!

AND MY FAV CHARACTERS AHHHHHHH tengen obviously like that’s Husband… <333 and i love all my babies like tanjiro and inosuke and zenitsu and nezuko are literally my children sniffles i love them so much……. same w muichiro! that’s my SON! i love giyuu & rengoku too! & OBVIOUSLY I LOVE YORIICHI TOO!!! AND UBUYASHIKI!! i love all the characters in the show i think they’re so well-developed and different from each other! demon slayer is soooooooo good i remember BINGING the manga until like 3 am bc i needed to know what was gonna happen like… WOW it’s so well written IMO <3
