Since my last post, I have been thinking about the dynamic that Dadi should have with Data and Geordi’s families! And I have decided that a character who is a combination of Data and Geordi would be quite responsible by nature, so he would definitely accept everyone in their families as his own!

That brings us to the art. I interpret Data as being quite patient with Lore, while staying suspicious and keeping his wits about him, because he values having a brother at all. I think adding Geordi’s feelings to the mix would add tension to their relationship, and result in Dadi having much less patience for Lore than Data does. He would take more of a self-preservation approach to the relationship than Data would, and would therefore be even more estranged from Lore. Ultimately, he views Lore as his very, very flawed brother who needs to get his shit together before they can spend more than a few minutes in the same room together! Similar things can be said about his relationship with Dr. Soong.

thank you! 💛💜💛 Rider's been near and dear to my heart for well over a decade now, and I'm always happy to suck more people into the void. >:)

Kamen Rider is a Japanese live-action superhero franchise; they come out with a new standalone show every year with brand new characters/story/etc. (so you typically don't need to have seen any of the others to understand it). because every show is often totally different, there's a big variety in tone and quality, but I have some personal recs in this post! and you can also take a look at the wikipedia list (under 'main series') and just see which ones might sound good to you. :D (there's also Ride Kamens, the Twstification-style game that I've really been enjoying, though it is only in Japanese right now.)

at its heart it's basically just a bunch of guys in superhero suits having emotions while swinging foam swords and questionable CGI at rubber monsters, and it's excellent.

Ohhh this is a tough one! I feel like Blake and Yang could fit all of these questions but I’ll add who I think would do what (doesn’t mean they both aren’t good for each answer though 🥹🖤💛)

1) At the beginning of their relationship I can see Blake being the more affectionate one; but after some time Yang gets more comfortable to show just as much affection back as Blake does 🖤💛

2) Blake carries Yang more but doesn’t mind because she loves to do it 🖤

3) Blake and Yang have a romantic picnic together in Menagerie, not too far from the beach. Yang expresses how much she loves Blake and proposes to her while the sun starts to set (Yang had been saving up for a long time to get a special ring for her 💍) 💛

4) I can imagine Yang being a fan of rock, alternative, and pop, while Blake loves pop, country, and jazz. I don’t see either of them having weird taste in music, just having different genres they prefer. I do like the idea of both Blake and Yang enjoying each other’s music after sharing what their favourite songs are, I think that would be really sweet 🖤💛

I would love for Ponyo AU to hear more about a) the seaside town where Edwin lives or b) how the Night Nurse and Kashi met (something which is never addressed in the Ponyo film actually, I think) - apologies if this constitutes a spoiler for future chapters!

Thank you, my friend! Apologies for the delay in answering, life sure keeps life-ing all over me 😑

I did think about choosing an actual British seaside town to set the story in -- we do have plenty of them to choose from -- but ultimately I decided that in the name of the sort of, dreamy imprecise magical whimsy of the piece, that having an exact town you can point to on a map wasn't really what was needed or wanted.

Edwin lives in a Pushing Daisies-esque small beach town named something whimsical like Bottleby-Upon-Tweed or West Wombling or some such achingly British nonsense, and it's all brightness and noise and candy striped colours in the summer and a desaturated frame of salt-roughened old celluloid in the winter. Those two mirroring states are sort of reflective of our POV characters. The POV of the overall fic is a little muddled, there may be parts where it leans more heavily into Edwin or Charles (the growing up sequence ended up almost entirely Edwin, which I regret a bit now!) but there will often be asides to both in the same section because in my mind they're sort of learning to see the world not just through their own eyes but through each other's; Edwin, who's tired of this grey old place and these grey, miserable people, and Charles, who sees the world on the shore as this big exciting adventure. It's an odd balance and one I defo didn't nail in chapter one because I was still sort of percolating ideas, but there's a tribute to both of their viewpoints in the way I'm trying to build this fictional town around them out of drab and dour things like cold cliffs and beach litter and panopticon-esque family homes that watch you with their beady window-eyes, and out of larger-than-life adventure set pieces like killer seagulls and travelling circuses (woops chapter 2 spoiler!) and the same house again but as a castle on the hill, a stronghold. Essentially, the town is a Frankensteined scrapbook of your quintessential English beachside town, cobbled together by two children with very different memories of how the summer holiday went!

And as for Night Nurse and Kashi, well, I won't go into what the later chapters hold for them, but I have no idea how much of their backstory will make it into the fic, so. In the interest of anyone who wants to keep that part of the fic a complete surprise I'll pop it under a cut!

N.N. and Kashi aren't the focus of the fic, so I wouldn't say I've thought through every aspect of their relationship/backstory, however as soon as their role in this fic revealed itself to me I did get way more invested in them than I planned! In this fic, N.N tends to be referred to as either the sea witch, or the witch of the waves (slight Howl's Moving Castle nod, there!), but she has another name, and a relatively well-known role in ancient Greek mythology. What her history is exactly has been somewhat lost to time, oral histories and retellings being what they are, but she was once a powerful sorceress with a gift for transforming people who crossed her into animals. She's had various romantic entanglements and a number of children, all lost to her now.

She'd always lived by the sea and done a number of dealings with some famous -- or infamous -- sea-dwellers, so it was a happy coincidence that one day she happened across a strange and friendly man on the docks. He was an odd man, seemingly totally unbothered by the pain and strife in the world; and she, being a woman who'd lived through a great deal of tiresome human loss and pettiness (of literally mythic proportions), found herself drawn to him. He turned out to be a minor god of the sea and a self-described inveterate wonderer, always swimming from ocean to ocean, never having had enough of all the world can show him, but his kindness and his refreshingly direct manner of speaking seduced her, and she gave up on the world of men for good to live on the bottom of the sea -- and grew to adore it so much that she's now quite sure that the world could do perfectly well without the land or the humans in the picture, actually. They love each other very dearly, in their strange way, they're honest with each other; and she's never begrudged him his lifestyle, or his adventures, or his infrequent and unpredictable visits.

...She does take SLIGHT issue when that ridiculous overgrown seahorse of a man blows back into her neck of the woods with a winsome smile and a fresh batch of magical immortal fish-children smuggled under his arm like souvenirs from abroad, but. Fortunately for him she's been a mother before and even finds herself missing it on occasion; although the sort of broods this man produces are FAR larger than any she's had to deal with in her human years. No wonder she's just a tad stressed.

What is your favorite scene w Data, Geordi, Lore (or any combination of the three), and why is it your favorite scene? I ask because I love to hear people talk abt what they love ❤️

For Lore it's the scene's in "Brother" after getting reactivated. Because we got to see Lore being an evil little gremlin 🖤 before.

But when confronted with his father he suddenly turns into a bratty teen. All the hurt suddenly resurfaces. There is such a desperation in him to be fixed, to be praised. I'm feral for character depth that feeds fandom. And to me this is the moment that really set the spark to write about him

Data and Geordi have a million wonderful scenes (think Holmes & Watson "Geordi? GEORDI?! GEEOORDI!" gay poetry Romulan adventures or Hugh, and any episode of Data adopting a kid AJUFHAJK)

But! the first one that came to mind was one from "the next phase".

The way Data is lost, standing socially awkward, almost on standby as Geordi gets welcomed back. And Geordi picking up Data exactly where he is, pulling him out of the group situation into a safe 1 on 1 and the way Data's voice turns all soft? 🫠🫠🫠🫠

I'm not as nice as Nami is. I'm not, so don't expect anything too flowery or sweet or diabetes inducing. But I am here for you if you ever need it. And you will undoubtedly need someone in the next two years, and beyond that.

I know you said you're not going on the usual charade of... Competitive exams, that most of the country likes. And that's already a good sign for you. But science is hard. It will be. Your grades might plummet into the fucking ground, or they might slightly waver. And that's OK. It's not the end of the world.

I don't really want to get too personal, but I was a pretty.. good student lmao. Until grade 11 I had a rep for being that student who got a 95+ on every single test without studying. I'd open my books the day before the exam, and pass with a 99 with no effort whatsoever. Yeah, I was that asshole.

You won't be able to do that in 11th and 12th. Or ever again, really. Prepare yourself for that. If you are like me, and don't study until the final day and expected to get a 99, change that right now. It won't happen.

Now, it's going to be about consistency. Smaller efforts, but good ones, spread across every day. Your routine matters. The amount of sleep you get, the stuff you eat, the way you work through your day, everything will matter now. And not just for now, for ahead, too. So make sure you take care of your body, and your mind.

Work, but don't overwork. Have fun, but don't ignore your responsibilities for it. Nami's message mentions chaotic fun— I wasn't that type of person, not really. My fun was cool writing or drawing. Chatting with the people I love. Video gaming. And it's lovely! I'm not going to tell you how to have fun. But you should, because those moments of laughter will carry you through these years.

You're going to make friends, lose friends, make enemies and forget enemies. It'll happen. But the connections you make now will impact the course of your life for the next two years. When you enter conversations, do so with conviction. Know what you think and feel, and don't sway. Listen to opinions but don't let them take over your brain without cross checking it with your own thoughts first.

I hope you have people you can depend on. If nobody else, you have me and Nami. We're here for you.

Adults will tell you a lot, over the course of these two years. Listen to everything, but listen to it with a critical ear. You're capable of knowing what is and isn't important to you, personally. Stick to your guns, but be open to new suggestions. People will make personal quips at you, and they will hurt. Let them. But don't let them stick onto your being and pollute your awareness of yourself.

Mmm.. I don't really have anything else to say, not in particular. I know South India is a lot different to where I'm at rn, so my experiences will not be the same as yours. But I get it. I do, and so you can shoot me an ask or a DM anytime. I will be more than happy to help. Whether it's homework or just a vent, go for it, okay?

And above all, don't look back at what used to be, and what might have been.

When you take decisions, take them with consideration of all the information you have on hand right now. And once you've taken it, don't look back. Maybe later, with extra information, you will regret what you chose. It can happen. But you should be able to look back, and tell yourself, "No. I made that decision after considering everything I knew then. And so I do not regret the choice I made then."

You'll hear this a lot, but a set routine really really helps. I disagree with Nami, I don't think you will need late nights or overworking if you set yourself a routine. My routine changed depending on my schedule for the next day, but always make sure you get a minimum of 6 hours of sleep and some exercise, okay? It'll take you a long way.

And above all.

Anything, really.

Nothing else matters.

But be kind to yourself.
