kitchen kisses w/ osamu | wc: 336 masterlist | timeskip + 'oh my gosh you can't just say that'

    you hop onto one of osamu's kitchen counters, resting your palms on the edge of the marble. he stands a few feet beside you as he cautiously cuts up some radishes. his fingers rest close to the knife and yet he never has cuts on his fingers. you watch as he dumps them into a pot with an array of vegetables and spices, "thanks for dinner again.. i don't know what i'd do without you."

  "well, i could start making you dinner every night after work," osamu sets down his knife, taking a few steps towards you and resting his palm on the counter. 

  "yeah and how would that work out?" you lean forward slightly, fingers gripping at the bottom of the marble countertop, "i live a train ride away and it'd be cold by the time you get to my apartment."

  "move in with me."

  his wording is quick, and you almost completely miss what he says. staring over at him, lips parted just barely, you attempt to register what he said. 'move in with me' replays over and over in your mind as your gaze stays resting heavy on him. not in a bad way though. you'd move in with him in a heartbeat, it's just the way he said it.

  "oh my gosh 'samu, you can't just say that!" 

  he looks at you with wide eyes, "but c’mon, the atmosphere, the situation, it’s all a little too romantic for me not to say something.”

  “it was a little romantic,” you free one hand, narrowing the space between your thumb and index finger. 

  osamu reaches his hand up, grabbing yours, gently, he lowers it to your side. rubbing the back of your hand with his thumb, he takes another step towards you, “well is this a bit more romantic?”

  “yeah, yeah it is,” leaning down, you give him a quick kiss, pulling back to look into his deep grey eyes, “i’d love to move in with you. especially if it means onigiri miya leftovers.”

it's so good, Ollie zeroing in on Bruce not claiming his achievements as Bruce Wayne/a civilian and telling him 'don't talk shit about my friend/yourself or I'll kick your ass'.

He's such a good friend, and you can really see how he knows him here, even with all the decades of lies and misdirection, even with Bruce never wanting him to.

It's such great work. I love it. All the things that go unsaid and everything that they force out of their mouths because they need to say them or the other needs to hear it.

Yes! God, Bruce has so many identity issues. It's not just as simple as, well Bruce Wayne is the mask and Batman is the real him -- here, clearly it's all shades of truth. But Ollie knows enough to piece those bits together. He wants to piece them together, more than even Bruce does. He's saying hey, that Bruce Wayne you keep writing off and pretending isn't you? He is you, so stop this bullshit.

Ollie is fully himself in both identities, and I think that's what scares Bruce (and also makes him a tiny bit envious). Bruce is never wholly himself no matter which mask he's wearing. That must be disorienting.
