Okay, as a librarian in a major metropolitan area, I've seen this go around a bunch. I've had this sent to me several times as a fun joke. And while upstairs is DEFINITELY right that this is part of a massive ongoing anti-library smear campaign by the right (and if you just went, "wait, what," well. Have I got news for you), I have something else to say that I kind of keep waiting for someone else to say for me, but this post keeps going around and no one says it.
Yes. Fuck's sake. Yes. People are having sex and doing drugs at the library.
Ask any public librarian in, again, a major metropolitan area (possibly other areas, but I'm just not knowledgeable there), and they will go, "Yes, obviously. Yes, obviously, we do our best, but shit fucking sucks, please fund us better so we can better connect these people with helpful resources."
Fucking---this isn't really the point, but I have people at the library say things to me like, "You must have the easiest job in the world," because they assume all I do is, like, read at work or something. And no. No, I fucking do not. You are wrong about what libraries are.
And you're sort of wrong in a fun way, because libraries do a lot of incredible stuff you aren't aware of, like events and concerts and interlibrary loan and expungement clinics and tech loaning and makerspaces and so just so much more. Check out your local library. I guarantee you they do things you never would've thought.
But you're also wrong in a not-so-fun way, because being the third place that you don't have to pay to be in isn't always fucking pretty, okay. Public service and community spaces aren't the utopian bastions you imagine.
So, yes. People come in drunk off their asses. People do drugs in the bathrooms (so much that in some libraries, the librarians are getting Narcan training). People shit outside of the bathrooms, sometimes because they're drunk or high, but not always. People are having sex. They masturbate in the study rooms or the stacks or just out in the open until someone stops them, they watch porn on the public computers.
And yes, the library workers get to deal with that. And it fucking sucks.
But also FUCK Fox News, because the answer is not "libraries have become a problem," the question is when and why we became the only place everyone could go. Why we got stuck with all of it, becoming all things to all people. And the question isn't how we can force people out of libraries or close libraries (because clearly we're disgusting houses of iniquity, and if you remove the house, the iniquity evaporates with it), it's how we can actually fucking connect people with services that libraries can't (and shouldn't have to!) provide. Like housing. Medical assistance. Mental health services. Career services. So much more.
But yes. For the love of god. Libraries are drug-infested sex dens. Yes, we'd like to do something about that.
If someone could help us instead of laughing at the thought, that would be fantastic, thanks.
Tumblr media
So Fox News ran a story about how they think libraries are turning into drug-infested sex dens and I am shocked, shocked that I was never offered any drugs during my 15+ years working in libraries.

You might have answered this before but if Aurora showed up in the murder of sonic the hedgehog ( as Light, I'd persume) what would her 'role card' be? Sorry if you've answered this before, I digged around in the Aurora and mosth tag and I was surprised I didn't find anything considering it's your favorite (mine too ;-])
Oh this is such a fun question!
Tumblr media
Aurora would be the role of School Teacher. You'd think she'd be assigned to hang out in the Library Car, but for some reason she's posted in the Saloon Car! 🤔🤔🤔 She's extremely soft-spoken, shifty about what brings her on the train today and highly anxious which makes her a prime murder suspect! In reality, her lore card reveals that she played hooky from work for the day to audition for a singing competition show, but she was so quiet that the judges immediately voted her out! Now she's drowning her sorrows at the soda bar and worried that she'll lose her teaching job if anyone discovers she ditched work hehehe.
Thanks for the question, I had a blast thinking of a response and it was a fun challenge to draw in the TMOSTH style!

Tumblr media
It’s the little things. Rengoku isn’t stubborn. He doesn’t hide things and he’s not ashamed. He realizes quite early on that there is something about you. Something that draws his eye. You’re not someone flashy or boisterous. You’re just someone that makes his mind wander. He likes your smile, he’s told you so. He likes when you blush, something so rare because you are so seemingly serious to most. He likes your sword style and the way you fight. He likes your voice and how if he catches you late at night your voice has a softer edge to it because you’re tired. He likes making you laugh and buying you food. He likes that you eat just about as much as him and doesn't seem to mind his loud voice. So sure, all of those things could easily tell him that he’s in love with you but… but it was just one single thing that solidified it all in his mind.
Rengoku had a cold father. He had a warm mother and a kind little brother. He liked his family but part of him was… hesitant to start his own. His father never warmed to him. No matter what he did. He didn’t know if that was something he’d turn into. And he really didn’t want to take a chance. But… then he met you. And suddenly taking that chance seemed inevitable. Being with you seemed to weigh on his mind night and night again. He used to love winding down for the night until he met you, a cold demon slayer. Now he laid awake and thought of you. His father was cold and sometimes… you reminded him of him. Your coldness didn’t seem malicious but… it was still there. Still a gentle reminder that he needed more time to know you. His only glaring spiraling thought being; would you always be cold or would you warm to him?
“Lost in thought?” You interrupted his spiraling. He swallowed and smiled softly over at you.
“A bit.” He answered cheerfully but his smile faltered as you stared at him intently. That stare felt as though you could see straight into his soul, cutting through all the barriers and barricades he’s built.
“You’re not eating. That’s troubling.” You pointed out.
“I’m fine.” He lied with a smile, reaching for his chopsticks. Your eyes tracked his hands movement and he found himself blushing at how closely you were observing him.
“Is it the mission?” You asked, picking up and taking a sip of your warm green tea. Rengoku shook his head.
“I didn’t mean to worry you. Really I’m fine.”
“So it’s not the mission.” You concluded, crossing your arms over your chest in thought. He stared at you for a moment and you stared back. “Tell me what it is.” You said and although he’s heard you demand things of others before this was no demand. It was a gentle question with a soft tone.
There was a table between you two, a crowded restaurant with talking patrons but suddenly the room just felt empty, you being the only person his eyes wanted to see. He couldn’t just up and say he was thinking about you because it just wouldn’t come out right. He parted his lips to speak but nothing substantial crossed his mind. You observed all of it.
“Never mind. Tell me when you’re ready.” You said just as softly, and when he met your eyes there was no ounce of coldness in them. He felt warm all over. Nothing he’d ever felt before. He couldn’t believe he had ever for a single moment thought you were anything like his father. You chose your words wisely, no you didn’t smile much but that made your smiles that much more meaningful when he had to work for them.
”I’m in love with you.” Rengoku said without a second thought. Your hand paused, eyes stuck on the plate in front of you.
“Hm?” You asked, as though you hadn’t heard him loud and clear. Slowly your eyes rose to meet him. Those five words were written all over his face, his soft gaze, the slight smile on his lips. You blushed almost immediately.
”I’m in love with you.” Rengoku affirmed, no shyness. Your lips parted in silent surprise.
”Oh.” You said, unable to properly digest his words at this very moment. “You are?”
”I am.” He nodded his head, leaning back in his chair. You purse your lips, embarrassed. Rengoku didn’t push the subject, he paid for the meal and when you both stood he wrapped a shawl around you and you followed him out the door into the stinging winter morning.
You trailed behind him a few steps, walking in the indents of the snow he left. Rengoku stood out in the snow, like a sore thumb with his bright hair and fire eyes. He stood out everywhere. You reached out, barely grabbing the back of his cloak. He paused, barely turning, eyes holding that same soft gaze. There were a lot of things you weren’t sure of. Your place in the demon slayer corp for one, you standing with your peers, how this next mission was going to go. But there was one thing you were clear on.
“I love you too.” You said softly, snow falling around you two. Rengoku turned more, snow crunching underfoot. You could barely meet his eyes, blushing profusely, hoping he’d think it was from the cold. He reached for you, hand sliding around your hip, barely tugging you a step closer. He kissed you then, leaning into your space and meeting your lips with a gentle press of his own. He pulled back long enough to press a kiss to your forehead.
“Come on, let's get you somewhere warm.”
~
Tengen was quick to fall for you. He is not embarrassed or abashed by what he feels for you. He loves loudly. It was like the cliff was in sight and then suddenly he was toppling over it with reckless abandon. It's not like you paid him any extra attention. He was a lot and you were shy, you tried your hardest to dodge him if you were being honest. But he found you. He always found you. And more importantly he saw you. Saw through the shy, curt expressions you wore.
This time he found you at the butterfly mansion. He was recuperating from a recent mission when you were brought in, bloody and bruised. He could barely walk but he came to your bedside the first two nights. Or so you were told, you had been out for those two days. When you woke up the first day one of the girls changing your bandages told you about him staying with you and being forced away from your side.
The next morning you woke up and Tengen was dead asleep in the chair next to your bed. The sight was… something. He was a Hashira and you were a slayer. He was always put together when you’d see him but… he was disheveled, his white hair a mess from sleep, his face serene. It was… it took your breath away. Something about his vulnerability and sudden softness made your heart quicken in your chest.
You pushed up in your bed, it groaned gently under your weight and you paused as Tengen stirred. He moved just a bit before settling right back down. You pushed out of the bed after a moment. You’d overstayed your welcome at the mansion, you felt fine enough to travel and there was something… intimate about Tengen wasting so much time by your side when he should be focused on himself.
Gathering your things up you moved quietly through the room, you slung your bag over your shoulder and reached for the door.
“Leaving so soon?” His voice was smooth and rich from sleep. Your hand paused. Hoping in vain that you had heard things but then you heard him pushing up in the chair he was slouched in. You cleared your throat.
“I was assigned a new mission.”
“I’ll accompany you.” He says and you spin around, shaking your head.
“No need. You’re recovering.”
“And so are you.” He says, pushing to his feet and stretching like a giant animal. You purse your lips as he yawns.
“I’m fine. You’re a hashira, you shouldn’t waste time on low level missions.” You say as Tengen raises a brow.
“Low level?” He echoes, looking slightly amused. You nodded your head doubling down on your statement. He smiled at you, laughing slightly. He looked… entirely too handsome like this. You looked away, blushing. “Regardless of mission difficulty I’d still like to accompany you.” You swallowed, the room was small. Tengen’s hair was down, mussed a bit from sleep. Cheek still a bit red where he had fallen asleep leaning against his hand. You could barely look at him, your heart pounding in your chest.
“I’m sure you have more pressing things to do.” You offered and Tengen just brushed away your attempt with a wave of his hand. He walked towards the door where you stood and reached, brushing past you to pull open the door. He invaded your space, large and not entirely imposing. You felt startlingly comfortable this close to him yet at the same time your heart was in your mouth impeding your speech.
“Give me ten minutes to clean up. Don’t leave without me, little slayer.” He smirked, brushing past you to disappear down the hallway.
“Wait,” You called after him and he paused. You stood awkwardly halfway in the hallway and halfway in your room, the cold air of the hallway brushing against your flushed skin. He cocked his head at you. You bit your lip, leaning against the door jamb before sighing.
“I don’t… have a mission. I was just… trying to slip out.” You explained feeling guilty and a bit silly. Tengen didn’t look surprised, rather he just looked amused. He nodded his head.
“Is that so?” He asked, slowly walking towards you in the dim light of the hallway. You watched him approach, heat churning through you.
“Mister Uzui-”
“Oh, that’s nice.” He smirks at your attempt at professionalism.
“I’m sorry for lying.” You blushed as Tengen actually laughed.
“I forgive you.” Tengen drawled as he approached you. You watched with bated breath as he reached and tucked your hair back out of your face.
“Mister-”
“You can call me Tengen.” He cut in softly, his hand lingering on your cheek.
“Tengen…” You cooed and that was the moment. Like a twig snapping in the forest. Quick and precise. There is not a single other person in this world he’d rather hear his name spoken by. His eyes dropped to your mouth. Your lips moved but he hadn’t heard a word you said.
“I’m sorry,” He murmured. “I can’t focus.”
“Hm?”
“I’m going to kiss you.” He said sort of like a warning. You blushed to your bone and couldn’t find it in yourself to pretend you hadn’t been wanting that. You nodded your head and parted your lips to answer but Tengen ducked his head, lips cutting off your barely formed sentence.

Sanemi’s love is consuming, it's possessive. He watched you from afar, eyes drinking in your every little movement. He watched you dive forwards, practice sword in hand as you evaded a clever strike from your opponent. You launched, foot forwards as you sent the boy sprawling backwards on the ground, dust kicking up around him. Sanemi set up, he couldn’t hide the smirk that stretched across his lips as you swung your sword forwards and pointed it at the boy.
Ruthlessness. That's something Sanemi didn’t see much. Your swordplay was exact and left no room for imagination. He could see you becoming a Hashira in no time.
The boy raised his hands in mock surrender and you reached a free hand out, pulling him to his feet. Sanemi’s eyes narrowed. The boy said something and the smile and laugh that sprung from you had Sanemi’s stomach in knots. He clapped his hands together in an instant.
“Training’s done. Leave my sight.” He called out to the group of you. “Except you. You stay.” He pointed to you. The smile died on your face as your sparring partner patted your shoulder as he walked by, good luck he mouthed before jogging to catch up with the other slayers. You swallowed dryly as you heard Sanemi approach you. You steeled your expression and turned.
“Do you think at the end of a fight with a demon you can extend your hand to them and yank them to their feet?” Sanemi asked as you furrowed your brows.
“Uh- um… no…” you answered confusedly. Sanemi stared hard at you for a moment.
“Um no? You sounded unsure.”
“No.” You answered, more sure this time.
“The point of sparring and winning isn’t to give up when your opponent raises their hands, it’s to have them tap out in submission.” Sanemi chided as you nodded your head. He didn’t like the playing around after the match it seemed.
“I understand.”
“So what was so funny?” Sanemi asked as you blinked slowly.
“Hm?”
“What was so funny? After your spat. What could that idiot possibly say to make you laugh?” You stared at him for a long… long moment. Not only could you not remember what your partner had said but also… Why did Sanemi seem to care so much? You shifted slightly, twirling your practice sword in the dirt.
“I’ll be better next time.” You said, hoping that would appease this strange attitude Sanemi was sporting. Sanemi looked you over for a minute.
“Has anyone asked you to be their tsuguko?”
“Yes, Mr. Shinazugawa.” You nodded your head and Sanemi moved a step closer.
“Ah. Is that so?” He asks, reaching up to run a hand through his unruly white hair.
“Just a few offers.”
“Who offered?”
“Um… Ms. Kanroji, Mr. Tengen, Mr. Rengoku, and Mr. Tomioka.” You name off, with each name Sanemi’s face gets a bit redder. You clear your throat. “T-that’s all.”
“Be my Tsuguko.” He says, his eyes connect with yours. You swallow. Out of all the Hashira… Sanemi was the only one you were wanting to train under. It was purely out of admiration and definitely not for anything… else.
“Is— is that a serious offer?” You asked, eyes lighting up. Sanemi nodded his head and you couldn’t help the smile that took over your whole face. “I accept.” You said graciously. Sanemi turned away.
“Good. We start in the morning.” He said over his shoulder. You nodded before realizing he couldn’t see you.
“Yes, Mr. Shinazugawa.”
“Sanemi.” He said and your lips parted, brows furrowing softly.
“Hm?”
“You don’t have to be so formal, we’re the same age.” He says before walking off. You watched him go, smile stuck to your lips.
Two months passed and Sanemi was a ruthless teacher. He ran you ragged everyday, but you could feel yourself improving. You could feel the power in your swing’s strengthening. You knew you made a good choice training under him. You kept your rampant feelings at bay in favor of professionalism but… it was hard. You felt guilty for having these feelings and so you decided to tell Sanemi you were going to become someone else’s tsuguko.
On Sanemi’s end there was something stirring. A sort of thorn in his side. He was… incredibly… stupidly… in love with you. He’d thought he’d just been fascinated with you at first and yeah… he is fascinated with you. But it’s much more than fascination at this point. Spending day and night, trading you up he could see why the other slayers would gather around you like a flock. He could see the appeal in telling stupid jokes just to see a smile. Ever since he’d asked you to be his tsuguko and you smiled at him he’d been chasing that high ever fucking since. It was addicting. Your smile, your laugh, your voice and smell and the way you fought it was all being captured and cataloged in his mind.
Even now as he swung his sword to meet yours his eyes swept over your face, full of concentration, his heart swayed unevenly in his chest. He stepped back.
“That’s good enough for tonight, good defense.” He commented as you breathed heavily.
“Thank you.” You said almost breathless, walking over to place your practice sword with the others.
“Wait,” Sanemi called after you. You passed, turning.
“Yes?” You asked. Sanemi looked at you, he turned, gathering his thoughts.
“You’ve… improved incredibly.” He says, scratching the back of his head. He wasn’t looking at you as he said it and for some reason you needed him to. You walked a bit closer, stepping in his eyeline.
“You’re a good teacher.”
“You’re a quick learner.”
“I.. don’t know about that.” You laughed slightly. He stepped closer, he never licked when you talked down about yourself and he wasn’t going to change that about himself now.
“You are. I wouldn’t lie to you.”
“I didn’t…” you cleared your throat. “I know that. Would you… give me some more truths?”
“Hm?” Sanemi hummed and met your eyes.
“Mr. Shina- er… Sanemi…” you steeled yourself. “At the… risk of making things awkward… I can’t really keep things… at bay much longer.”
“What are you saying?”
“I’m… in love with you. It’s… affecting my ability to be… ya know… professional.” You stumbled. Sanemi watched you, you watched his lips barely part in surprise and decided to prattle on. “You are under no obligation to say anything to me. I already spoke with Ms. Kanroji and she said she’ll take me off your hands-“
“Off my hands?” Sanemi echoed, taking a step closer to you.
“She’ll take me in as he tsuguko so you don’t have to deal with me and my… feelings.” You stumbled, red faced and embarrassed. You couldn't see his eyes anymore.
“You… you think I’d just kick you to the curb?” Sanemi asks as your eyes snap up to him.
“Well, I-“
“I don’t want anyone to take you off my hands. I want to keep you.” Sanemi declared. You were speechless. Sanemi reached for your hand. His hand was rough and scared but he held yours with gentleness. He brought it to his lips and pressed a soft kiss to the top of your knuckles. You watched this whole scene unfold… totally enraptured by this side of Sanemi. “Stay. I couldn’t stand to lose you.”
“Sanemi…”
“I love you. Stay.”
~
Giyu’s love is peaceful, it’s quiet, it’s soft blushes and special moments. You hated him. You had to hate him. You had to. Because anything else would be unacceptable. It would be a complete betrayal to yourself. To the you that first met the unpleasant Mr. Tomioka. The you with wide unburdened eyes. The you that ran deliveries for your family, in your small town. Completely unaware of the dangers and… complete unfairness of the world.
Mr. Tomioka came to your town. He was short with you, he didn’t talk much and had these… soulless eyes. The whole town talked about him. Apparently he was something called a Hashira. That’s what your aunt told you, apparently she’d gotten a few more words out of him then most. He was in town to investigate a few of the disappearances. You didn’t see much of the need for him here considering the three ladies that disappeared left notes. A lady at the local cafe you were delivering to had told you the girls had each run off with a guy they each met a town over. You were quick to believe because one of the girls had drunkenly told you two nights before her disappearance that she had met someone. Called him dark and handsome. She prattled on for a bit about him and seemed excited to see him again.
“You spoke with her?” Mr. Tomioka asked you. He’d asked to have a few words with you about the girls after a day or so of him in town. You were… less inclined to speak with him because he had rubbed you the wrong way when he first arrived. Though this was no time for pride.
“Yes, she was at the local bar. She was drunk and talked about a man she met.”
“When was this?” He asked, those soulless eyes on you as you fiddled with your hands.
“Two days before she left.”
“Before she left? You don’t think she disappeared?”
“I don’t… I don’t know. I guess I think she’s just with that guy.” You explained. Mr. Tomioka squinted his eyes at you, his face unchanging.
“Her parents are very worried about her. They say she’d never up and leave.” He explains as you purse your lips. You were going to argue with that. Her parents knew her better than anyone. “Is there anything else you can tell me?”
“Mhm… well… she said the man she was going to meet lived in a town over.”
“All of the ladies missing have told their friends and families the same thing. They’re meeting a guy a town over. Only they’re not seen again.” Mr. Tomioka explains. You sit up slightly.
“Really?”
“Don’t gossip about this. This stays between us. I mean it.”
“I wouldn’t.” You declared sharply, slightly offended he would insinuate that you’d run your mouth about this. You were a listener. Not a talker, things said to you always remained a secret.
“Everyone else in this town foams at the mouth to spread things across town.”
“It’s a small town, Mr. Tomioka. People care for each other.” You grumbled, crossing your arms. “They like to be in the know so they can help when needed.”
“They’re nosy.” He argues. Your eyes sharpen, lips pouting slightly.
“They’re good people.” You pushed up from your seat. “Now if that’s all, Mr. Tomioka, I have work to get back to.”
“That’s not all.” He responded coldly. You stared at him, you didn’t sit back down. “There’s a link between the girls and I have a feeling you’ll be the next to disappear.”
“What?” You croaked. Mr. Tomioka didn’t convey any special feelings, he just reached for his tea and took a careful sip. He kept you waiting.
“The three women missing share various traits. Age, eye color, hair color, and body type. I believe a demon has an appetite for a specific type of woman.” Mr. Tomioka explained. You stared at him. You stared some more. You parted your lips to speak and then shut them. Did he just say… demon?
“I… believe I misunderstood. Do you mean demon as in evil?”
“I mean demon as in demon. I believe the creature is hunting pretty women like you and…” you zoned out. Demon? A creature? You couldn’t focus. You slowly sunk back into your chair. After a moment Mr. Tomioka noticed you not taking in his words. He sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. “This is all a bit much for you.”
“Yes.” You nodded numbly.
“Miss, afford me your time. I believe you are in danger. Let me stick near you to keep you safe. I believe the demon will try something soon and I want to be there to intercept it.” He asks, leaning forwards.
“Whatever.” You waved him off. “I believe you are delusional but… I see no harm in humoring you at least till you figure out what happened to those girls.”
And stuck around Mr. Tomioka did. He walked you to and from work, assisted on your deliveries. As you slept he patrolled your cabin and watched out for your family. He ate with you at dinner and breakfast and lunch for at least a month and a half. Mr. Tomioka didn’t talk much and you tried getting anything out of him but he was all serious like. It was hard to get past that.
You had started to believe he was a mad man when suddenly you felt a cold hand around your wrist while you were walking to work. When you turned you saw the demon and then a flash of light as Mr. Tomioka’s sword arched and sliced the demon’s wrist into two. You stumbled back as Mr. Tomioka made quick work of the demon. His slice was clean and true and you watched, wide eyed and unblinking as the demon dusted to nothing. You could even muster a word, so utterly terrified and exhausted and completely at a loss. Mr. Tomioka sheathed his sword.
He was right. He was right about the creature about it coming for you. You fell to your knees. Mr. Tomioka was at your side in the blink of an eye.
“You hurt? I was quick to kill it, I thought.”
“Those girls?”
“Are resting easy now.” He says. Tears fill your eyes. You nod your head and look at the floor. You outlived those girls purely because of Mr. Tomioka. And you had been utterly and completely cold to him the moment he set foot in the town. Mr. Tomioka placed a careful hand on your back. “Can you stand?”
“Yes.” You answered shakily. Mr. Tomioka offered you a hand and you took it. His… his eyes didn’t look so soulless now. He held your cold hand in his warm hand. He didn’t let go. “Mr. Tomioka… Thank you. You… saved my life.”
“I’m glad you’re safe.” He answers you, his eyes connecting with yours. Your stomach dropped. A moment was shared. One where… you couldn’t believe for a moment you had despised this man.
The next morning you walked Mr. Tomioka to the train station. It was a quiet morning, dew stuck to the grass blades, a gentle fog rolled through the town. The train station was quiet, you two were the only ones there, even the train hadn’t arrived.
Giyu looked over at you. The way your dress swayed, the way you stayed directly beside him as you walked. Giyu… felt trouble the moment he arrived in this town and it wasn’t the demon lurking in the shadows. It was you. He felt it the moment he walked into your place of work and you smiled so brightly he had to look away. Talked so sweetly that he couldn't form a coherent thought. His words were clumsy and came out sharper than intended because he’d never been this nervous in front of a woman before. He’d saved you and still couldn’t manage to put to words the way you made him feel. He knew you’d come around on him. Knew he’d rubbed you the wrong way at first. But the warmth in your smile as you thanked him last night kept him from sleeping. And now he was leaving, a new mission in sight and three words dying to spring free from his lips.
“Quiet morning, it seems not many are leaving at this hour.” You observed as you stepped onto the train platform, Mr. Tomioka a step behind you.
“It’s nice.” He commented and you turned, smiling.
“It is.” The distant chugging of the train told you both that this little kinship you two had found with each other was coming to an end. “Oh! Mr. Tomioka… I can’t thank you enough for all you’ve done for us and for… saving me but I wanted to give you this as thanks.” Your hands brushed as you handed him over some homemade food for his train ride. He nodded in thanks as the train pulled into the station. He lingered for a moment, he looked down at the food. You watched him, glancing towards the train, passengers filtering off. “Mr. Tomioka? You’ll miss your train.”
“May I visit again?”
“Hm?” You responded almost immediately.
“May I… come and visit… again?”
The question lingered in the air for a moment. You blinked, lips parting.
“Of course. My family loves you. In fact the whole town has warmed to you. I’m sure they’d love to have you back again, no demon lingering this time.”
“And… What about you?”
“Me?” You echoed. He finally met your eyes. Your stomach dropped.
“Have you… warmed to me?”
“Ah.” You cleared your throat. You wouldn’t lie. Not now… it seemed important in this moment not to mince words. “Very much so, Mr. Tomioka.” There was a small stretch of silence between you two. He clearly had felt the effect of your words. “Mr. Tomioka?”
“Please… please call me Giyu.”
“Giyu…” you tried his name out… you liked it. “If it wasn’t incredibly selfish of me to ask, I'd ask you to stay.”
“If it wasn’t incredibly selfish of me I would.” He returns.
“So we’re… in agreement.” You say and watch the ever stoic Giyu Tomioka smile. It was a small, shy sort of smile but it was a smile nonetheless. You’d catalogue it. The train horn honked, signifying it was about to take off. Giyu stepped close, his hand gently hovering by your cheek.
“May I? As a goodbye?” He asks. He didn’t even need to. You nodded your head and he leaned into your space and pressed his lips to yours. Softly. His thumb caressed your cheek and he deepened the kiss, his free hand wrapping around your hip. He pulled back, hands still on your hip and cheek. He pressed a quick kiss to your forehead.
“I’ll come back.” He promised and with that… he was gone.
~
Haganezuka’s love is confusing, confounding, a bit frightening… to everyone else that is.
Oh boy. You had… broken your first sword. The only piece you were about to recover laid pathetically in your hands. You shook with tears. It was just a sword. Why were you so worked up?
“That’s tough.” Mitsuri’s hand patted your back. “But a right of passage as a demon slayer.”
“You’ve done this?”
“Many times. Before I was a Hashira I broke at least ten of my swords.” She explains as you grip the piece in your hand. Turning to look at her. She’s smiling but then she cringes. “You’re going to have to request a new sword.”
“A new one?” You echo as she nods her head.
“We can travel to the swordsmith village together.” She smiles. “Do you remember the smith who made your sword?”
“Um. I believe it was Mr. Haganezuka.” You said and that smile dropped again.
“Mr. Haganezuka?” She echos. You nod your head. “Haganezuka? With the sunflower patterned haori? The wind chimes on his woven hat?”
“Yes, Ms. Kanroji.” You say, interest and eyebrows piqued. She blows out, running a stressed hand through her hair.
“You’re absolutely sure? You spoke with him before? You know his… nature?”
“His nature? I only saw him in passing. Mr.Urokodaki spoke with him.” You sigh slightly. “Is something the matter?”
“Yes. This… I was hoping it’d be a relaxing trip for you after our mission. But… well…” She pats your head. “Get packed, we’ll leave for the village in the morning.”
“Um, alright.” You said cautiously. You watch Mitsuri pout slightly as she pushes to her feet and trudges back towards her room.
The trek to the village took about three days. When you arrived you were surprised to see so many swordsmiths bustling around. Mitsuri had explained to you that Mr. Haganezuka was a character. She said he was intense and to disregard his actions. To say the least she had you nervous as you trekked up the path to his house. Mitsuri had taken off to the hot springs the moment you two stepped into the village and stated for you to meet her. That after talking to Mr. Haganezuka you were going to need some time to relax.
You sucked in a breath, hand reaching up as you rapped your knuckles against his workshop. It was deathly silent since he lived a bit sways from the village. You could hear the distant bustling but not much else. The door creaked open and the first thing you saw was the mask. You sucked in a breath, eyes wide.
“Yes?” His voice was muffled behind the mask. You stared, lips parted. You had fought demons but this scene had your heart on edge. His workshop was dark, he towered over you, looking down at you through the crack in the door.
“M-Mr. Haganezuka?” You asked, voice shaky. He nodded. “I’m… a d-demon slayer. You… made me a sword.” You explained. He didn’t answer, just stared down at you. You wished you could see his expression, you read people well and behind a mask he was a mystery to you. “I was Urokodaki’s student.” You tried again. Again he just started. You instinctively stepped back and reached for your bag. You pulled out your broken sword and presented it to him. His head moved as he looked at the broken sword then moved again as he met your eyes.
“Ah. I remember you.” Was all he said as you swallowed dryly.
“I— I appreciated the s-word you made me. It… it was a great help. Unfortunately… I— b-broke it. I’m… still t-training and I was careless and uhm— and foolish.” You explained, you were unable to meet his eyes anymore. Your eyes glued to the broken sword in your hands. “I am terribly… terribly sorry for the inconvenience.”
“Not an inconvenience.” He said, and pulled the door open slightly. His workshop wasn’t as dark as you thought as you caught a glimpse of a fire churning in the hearth. You parted your lips, surprised by his words. “You’re alive. The sword fulfilled its purpose.” At that you finally raised your eyes just as he reached out, hand brushing yours as he grabbed the shattered remains. “Come back in three days. I’ll give you a new sword.”
“Really?” You asked softly. Haganezuka nods his head. “Well I appreciate-” The door clicks as he shuts it right in your face. Oh.
Three days later you visit again. This time with Mitsuri in tow. She would not believe your story of how your first interaction with Mr. Haganezuka went. She claimed he put her in a headlock the first time she broke her sword. She said he chased her till sunrise another time. Mr. Haganezuka seemed… apathetic to you.
You knocked on the door. No answer. You glanced at Mitsuri and she reached out and knocked. Nothing.
“Mr. Haganezuka?” You called through the door. You raised your hand again and this time the door cracked open. You jumped, startled as the man pulled open the door. You're not sure how you could tell because of the mask but something was wrong with Mr. Haganezuka. He leaned against the door heavily.
“Come in. I’ll fetch your sword.” He says as Mitsuri shoots you a confused look. You follow him as he walks laboriously through his workshop.
“Mr. Haganezuka?” You ask, he tilts his head slightly. “Are you alright?”
“Your sword took me night and day to forge.” He says as he walks you into the main room, Mitsuri close behind
“Day and night?” You echo. “Did you sleep? Eat?” You ask as Mitsuri warningly grabs your arm.
“Here it is.” Mr. Haganezuka presents the sword to you. Your eyes widen. It was… different from your last sword. The hilt was a beautiful shade of maroon with intricate carvings.
“Wow… this is… magnificent.” You were at a loss for words to describe it. Mitsuri sucked in a breath behind you, eyes bulging at the sight.
“It will suit you well.” He says, leaning on his work table.
“How much do I owe you, sir?”
“No.”
“N-no?” You echo. He just shakes his head.
“Make sure to treat it well.” Mitsuri says.
“I rather hope it treats her well.” He says, sliding into the seat.
“Mr. Haganezuka, as a thanks please allow me to treat you to something to eat.” You step closer to him. Mitsuri grabs your arm but you don’t let her deter you.
“Mr. Haganezuka is a busy man-“
“Alright.” He says to your surprise.
You whipped him up something and Mitsuri took her leave. You laid the food out for him and grabbed your sword.
“I’ll be taking my leave now.”
“You may stay. If you like.”
“I figured you wouldn’t want company… that you’d want privacy-“ he reached up and undid the tie to his mask, letting it drop in his hands. You blushed. It was an instant reaction, one you couldn’t hide. He was… handsome. Very handsome. With dark hair and dark eyes. But also he looked exhausted, dark circles beneath his eyes.
“I don’t mind your company, slayer.” He says and you swallow dryly.
“I’ll stay then.” You say and sit across from him, he pushes some of the food your way. “You eat. You need it more.” You say but he doesn’t pull the plate back. You sigh, and grab some food.
You spent a month in the village, recuperating from your prior mission, training with Mitsuri and occasionally seeking out Mr. Haganezuka. He was gentle, and kind. Mitsuri was unsettled when she saw how he treated you. Maybe unsettled isn’t the right word… more intrigued. She said she had never seen him act that way with anyone. Not even Rengoku. And everyone liked Rengoku. But you liked Mr. Haganezuka. He was an incredibly hard worker, almost working himself to the bone. He was diligent, he was… handsome. You’d never seen a man like him before.
On your last night you packed up your things. Mitsuri had headed out earlier that morning and you were to meet her later in the week. You tossed your bag over your shoulder and pulled open your door. You traced the same path back to Mr. Haganzuka’s and as you arrived Mr. Haganezuka was already pulling open the door.
“I cooked.”
“You did?” You ask, a smile forming on your lips. He hadn’t worn his mask since the first time you two met. He nodded his head and you followed him inside, setting your bags by the door. “I just wanted to stop by to say goodbye but I guess I can eat before going.” He stops, turning slightly, eyes intense.
“Hm? You’re leaving?”
“Yes, sir.” You nod your head. “Ms. Kanroji and I have a new mission a few towns over.”
“Ah.” He says, he turns away, still paused. You watch him from behind, blinking.
“Mr. Haganezuka?”
“Food’s getting cold, come on.” He says, walking towards the kitchen. You follow excitedly. The dinner was quiet, a little too quiet for your liking. You cleared your throat, glancing at the time.
“Well. Mr. Haganezuka-”
“Hotaru.” He says, not looking up from his plate. “Please call me Hotaru.”
“Hotaru… I should be taking my leave. Thank you kindly for dinner and… and your company this month. As well as my sword.” You name off, grateful, a soft smile on your face. Hotaru meets your eyes for a second before looking away quickly.
“You’re… very welcome.”
He walks you to the door as you bend to grab your bags.
“Must you leave so late?”
“I have a train to catch.” You say with a smile.
“Do you have… train fare?” He asks as you tilt your head.
“Hm?” You ask as Hotaru grabs some money, handing it to you. “Oh… Oh I can't accept this-”
“And it’s cold out. Don’t you have a scarf?” He asks, bustling out of your view again and reappearing, wrapping a scarf around your neck gently. You blush when his hands inadvertently brush your cheeks and again when he untucks your hair from beneath the scarf.
“Hotaru?”
“Ah! Let me pack you some food for the train and-- and some breakfast-” You catch his arm as he turns. He pauses, eyes darting to your hand.
“I’ll come and visit.” You say. He meets your eyes slowly.
“Please do.” He says softly. There’s a quiet, almost tension filled moment as his hand slides over yours, his thumb gently stroking the top of your hand before pulling it to his lips and pressing a kiss to your knuckles. “Break your sword as many times as you like.”

The soft clatter of toys echoed through the living room as you adjusted the strap of your dress, glancing up just in time to see your daughter wrapped in a fluffy blanket like a burrito pouting from her spot on the couch.
“But why do you have to go, Mommy?” she whined, dramatically flopping onto her side. “I want to have a movie night with you and Jakey!”
A chuckle rumbled from across the room. “Jakey, huh?” Jake stood near the kitchen, arms crossed, grinning in amusement at his new nickname.
Your daughter giggled, momentarily distracted from her sulking.
You stood, smoothing your dress with a smile. “Sweetheart, I won’t be gone long. And the babysitter is super fun, remember? She said she’d even bring that princess coloring book you love.”
“But what about my bedtime story! You always read me my story! And she always forget!” Your daughter pouted, lips pursed.
Jake immediately stepped in to try and help. He made his way over to her and crouched beside her, tapping her nose lightly. “Tell you what, kiddo. While your mom finishes getting all fancy, how ‘bout we build the biggest pillow fort ever?”
Her eyes lit up. “Bigger than last time?”
Jake smirked. “Way bigger.”
That was enough to pull her attention away. As she scrambled off the couch to start gathering pillows, you mouthed a thank you to Jake before slipping down the hall to your bedroom.
You grabbed your earrings and slid them into place as you took one last glance in the mirror. You didn’t get nights like this often. Time to be you, and not just "Mommy."
You reached for your phone to check the time when a notification popped up. Babysitter: Hey, I am so, so sorry, but I have to cancel tonight. I’ve been feeling kind of sick all day and don’t want you guys to get it!.
“You’ve got to be kidding me.” You muttered to yourself. You immediately dialed her number, but it went straight to voicemail.
Okay. No big deal. You had other options. You scrolled through your contacts, calling the first backup. No answer. The next one was busy. One by one, your already limited options dwindled, and by the time you lowered your phone, a sigh slipped from your lips. There it was. Your long-awaited girls' night, slipping through your fingers.
You took a breath, pressing your fingers to your temple. Well, looks like I’m staying in tonight.
“Sweetheart? What’s wrong?” You turned to find Jake leaning against the doorframe, arms crossed, watching you with that familiar cocky tilt of his head.
You closed the distance between the two of you, stepping into his space and wrapping your arms around his torso. The moment your head fell against his chest his hands slid down your back resting there with a comforting squeeze.
He didn’t say anything at first, just held you. Let you take a second to breathe.
You let out a long sigh. “The babysitter cancelled.”
You felt Jake shift, glancing down at you. “Alright,” he said slowly. “Not ideal, but not the end of the world.”
“I called my backups. No one’s free.”
“Ah.” He nodded, like the picture was coming together. “So, what? You’re canceling your night?”
You pulled back just enough to look up at him, frustration flickering behind your eyes. “I mean, what else can I do? I can’t leave her here alone and I can’t take her with me.”
Jake’s response was instant, casual, like it was the simplest solution in the world. “I’ll watch her.”
You blinked. “What?”
He smirked. “I’ll stay. You go.”
You froze for a moment. You and Jake had been together for about six months now. And you had introduced them about a month ago. He was great with your daughter. He was sweet, playful, and patient in ways you hadn’t expected. But he’d never been alone with her before. And this was a whole night. Dinner, getting her ready for bed…
Jake must have noticed your hesitation because he let out a chuckle, squeezing your waist. “Come on, sweetheart. I can handle a tiny human for a few hours. How hard can it be?”
Before you could answer, the sound of little feet against the hardwood interrupted. You turned just as your daughter skidded into the doorway, her eyes wide with excitement.
“You’re staying with me, Jakey?!”
Jake grinned down at her. “If your mom says it’s okay.”
She gasped, spinning back to you. “Mommy! Please let him! Please, please, pleeeease?” She was practically bouncing on her toes, hands clasped under her chin like she was making the biggest wish in the world.
Jake arched a brow at you, the corner of his mouth twitching. “Well?”
You let out a slow breath, scanning his face. He looked so confident, so sure of himself. Your daughter adored him. And deep down, you knew you could trust him.
Still, you leveled him with a serious look. “Alright. But there are rules.”
Jake smirked. “Hit me.”
You started ticking things off on your fingers. “Bedtime is at eight. No more than one juice box. Snacks are in the pantry, but no chocolate after six.”
Jake held a hand over his heart. “Got it.”
You pointed toward the fridge. “Emergency numbers are on the fridge. If anything happens—”
Jake cut you off with a cocky little grin. “I’ll call you. But we’ll be just fine.” He leaned in, pressing a quick, warm kiss to your forehead before nudging you toward the door. “Go have fun, mama.”
Your daughter squealed, throwing her arms around Jake’s leg. “This is gonna be the best night ever!”
Jake laughed, ruffling her hair. “That’s what I like to hear, kiddo.”
And as you grabbed your purse and slipped on your coat, you couldn’t help but smile.
JAKE’S P.O.V.
A little later Jake leaned against the kitchen counter arms crossed, watching as your daughter stood on her tiptoes to peer into the fridge.
"Alright, kiddo. What sounds good for dinner?"
She spun around, her face scrunched in deep thought. “Mac and cheese.”
“Solid choice.” He nodded as he turned towards the pantry to go find the box of Kraft. “Anything else?”
A beat of silence. Then, with a completely straight face, she added, “With ketchup.”
Jake blinked. “With what now?”
“Ketchup,” she repeated, like it was the most normal thing in the world. She got the ketchup bottle out of the fridge and held it up like it was a trophy.
He squinted at her. “Is that good?”
She giggled. “Duh.”
Jake sighed running a hand down his face. “Alright, but if this is some kind of prank, I’m calling your mom.”
She gasped, clutching her chest like he’d just betrayed her. “No! You can’t tell Mommy.”
Jake smirked. “Why not?”
“Because…” She glanced around like she was about to spill classified intel. Then she leaned in, whispering, “She thinks it’s gross.”
Jake laughed, shaking his head. “Kid, I gotta be honest…she might be onto something.”
Your daughter gave him an unimpressed look. “Just try it.”
He sighed dramatically, pushing off the counter. “Fine, but if it tastes bad, I’m making you eat all of it.”
She beamed, already climbing onto one of the chairs at the kitchen table. “Deal!”
Jake got to work, boiling the pasta while she chattered away about everything that had been going on at preschool.
When the mac and cheese was ready, Jake slid a bowl in front of her, watching as she enthusiastically squeezed ketchup right on top. He tried not to wince.
“Try it Jakey!” She grinned, pushing the bowl toward him.
Jake hesitated, then took a bite. Chewed. Swallowed. And, to his surprise, it… wasn’t terrible.
Still, he scrunched his nose for dramatic effect. “Alright, I admit it’s…okay.”
She clapped. “Told you!”
He chuckled, ruffling her hair. “Alright, alright. You win this round.”
As she happily dug into her dinner she grabbed her juice box and started slurping away. Within minutes, it was empty. She held it up, shaking it a little.
Then, with the sweetest voice she could muster, she turned to Jake. “Jakey…Can I have another one?”
Jake leaned on the counter, arching a brow. “What’s the rule?”
She pouted. “One juice box.”
He smirked. “Mm-hmm.”
A pause. Then, she tried again with big, pleading eyes, bottom lip slightly pushed out.
Jake sighed, shaking his head. “Kid, that’s cheating.”
She didn’t answer. Just kept looking at him with those ridiculously cute eyes. The ones that were just like her mama’s.
Jake groaned, rubbing his temples. With a sigh of defeat, he grabbed another juice box from the fridge and slid it toward her.
She gasped, grinning. “Really?!”
He held up a finger. “On one condition.”
She nodded eagerly. “Anything!”
Jake lowered his voice like it was a top-secret mission. “This stays between us. Don't tell your mom or I'll be in big trouble.”
Your daughter’s eyes went wide. Then she grinned, holding out her tiny pinky. “Pinky promise.”
Jake smirked, locking his pinky around hers. “Pleasure doing business with you, kiddo.”
She giggled, grabbing the juice box and sipping it like it was the best secret in the world.
And Jake? Yeah, he was pretty sure he was screwed. Because this kid? She already had him wrapped around her little finger.
A while later it was 7:50, and Jake was starting to realize your daughter was a master at stalling.
“Alright, kiddo,” he said, leaning against the doorframe. “Bedtime’s at eight. You ready to hop in?”
She gasped dramatically. “But I need water!”
Jake narrowed his eyes. “Didn’t you just have a juice box?”
“Yes, but juice doesn’t count. I need water.”
With a sigh, Jake grabbed her cup from the nightstand and trudged to the kitchen. When he returned, she took the smallest possible sip before setting it down.
“Okay, now you’re ready for bed?” he asked.
She shook her head solemnly. “I can’t sleep without my stuffy.”
Jake looked around. “It’s right there.” He pointed to the pink rabbit sitting by her pillow.
She frowned. “No, not that one.”
He sighed, hands on his hips. “Alright. Which one are we talking about?”
Her brows scrunched in concentration. Then she pointed. “That one.”
Jake turned to where at least ten stuffed animals were piled in a corner. He groaned. “Kid, you got options. Just pick one.”
She hummed in thought, tapping her chin. “Mmm… maybe the bear.”
Jake grabbed the bear.
“No, wait! The unicorn.”
Jake grabbed the unicorn.
“…Actually, the bear and the unicorn.”
Jake huffed, tossing both onto the bed. “Alright, final answer?”
She nodded, satisfied, and finally scooted under the covers.
He checked the time. 7:55. Not bad.
With a sigh of victory, he sat on the edge of the bed, grabbing the book she’d picked.
“Alright, let’s do this. The Very Cranky Bear.” He opened to the first page. “In the Jingle Jangle Jungle on a cold and rainy day…”
He barely got through the first sentence before she giggled.
Jake frowned. “What?”
“You’re doing it wrong,” she said.
“…Doing what wrong?”
“The voices!” She gave him an expectant look. “You have to do the voices.”
Jake blinked. “There are voices?”
She nodded like this was common knowledge. “Duh.”
He sighed, rubbing a hand down his face. “Kid, I don’t do voices.”
She gasped, sitting up. “But that’s the best part!”
Jake huffed, glancing at the book. “Alright, alright. Show me how it’s done.”
She cleared her throat, then dramatically deepened her voice. “‘GRRRR!’ roared the bear!”
Jake arched a brow. “Okay, that was solid.”
She beamed. “Now you try.”
Jake rolled his shoulders, took a deep breath, and attempted his best bear voice.
“GRRRR!”
Your daughter giggled, but then shook her head. “Hmm. That was… okay.”
Jake scoffed. “Okay?”
She shrugged. “It could be scarier.”
Jake groaned. “Tough crowd.”
She giggled again, flopping back onto her pillow. “Keep going.”
YOUR P.O.V.
Stepping into the house, you braced yourself for the worst. Maybe some crayon drawings on the walls, a kitchen disaster, or maybe even Jake waving a white flag of surrender.
But instead, as you kicked off your heels and followed the soft murmur of voices, you were met with something entirely unexpected.
Leaning against the doorframe of your daughter’s room, you found Jake perched on the edge of her bed, actually reading her bedtime story.
Well, trying to.
Your daughter’s arms were crossed as she huffed dramatically. “Jake isn’t doing the voices right!”
Biting back a laugh, you stepped inside. “Oh no. That bad?”
Jake scoffed. “Excuse me, I think I was nailing it.”
Your daughter shook her head, clearly unimpressed. “The bear is supposed to sound grumpy!”
Jake shot you a look. “She’s a brutal critic.”
Grinning, you slid onto the bed beside them, gently plucking the book from his hands. “Alright, let me show you how it’s done.”
Jake sighed in mock defeat, leaning back against the headboard. “Please do.”
As you started reading your daughter snuggled into your side, eyes drooping with sleep. What surprised you though, was Jake—his arm rested lazily around your daughter’s tiny frame, fingers idly playing with the end of her blanket. He looked so at ease, so comfortable with her.
You stole a glance at him between sentences, your heart doing something warm and ridiculous in your chest.
This was Jake Seresin, the cocky, self-assured aviator. The man who walked like he owned the world, who threw out one-liners like they were effortless. And yet, here he was, cuddling a sleepy four year old like it was the most natural thing in the world. Your chest tightened, something deep and achingly fond settling in your bones.
By the time you finished the story, your daughter was barely awake. You kissed her forehead, tucking the blanket securely around her. “Goodnight, sweetheart.”
Jake ruffled her hair gently. “Night, kiddo.”
Just as you both stood to leave, your daughter’s sleepy voice piped up.
“Mommy…you forgot to give Jake a goodnight kiss.”
You froze.
That smug grin spread across Jake's face as he leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed, clearly relishing this moment.
Your face burned. “Oh. Uh—”
Your daughter blinked up at you expectantly. “What if he has a nightmare cause you didn’t give him a goodnight kiss?”
Jake, ever the menace, tilted his head. “Yeah, sweetheart. Don’t want me to have a nightmare.”
You shot him a glare before huffing out a laugh. Cocky bastard.
With your heart pounding far too fast for such a simple thing, you leaned up on your toes and pressed a quick, feather light kiss to his cheek.
Jake’s smirk softened, eyes warm as he murmured, “Sweet dreams, kiddo.”
Then with a hand at the small of your back, he guided you out of the room shutting the door behind you. The second your daughter’s door clicked shut, you exhaled, pressing your back against the hallway wall. Your heart was still beating faster than it had any right to.
Jake smirked, hands sliding into his pockets as he leaned against the opposite wall. “So, how’d I do?”
You gave him a teasing smile. “Well, given that there are two empty ones on the counter I think you caved and gave my child a second juice box, let her stall bedtime for as long as humanly possible, and butchered the voices in the bedtime story.”
Jake chuckled, completely unrepentant. “Okay, but I got her fed, kept her happy, and had her in bed by eight on the dot.” He arched a brow. “I’d say that earns me at least a B-plus.”
You hummed, pretending to consider. “Fine. Solid B-plus. Maybe even an A-minus.”
Jake grinned, stepping closer, his voice dropping to that lower range that always made your breath catch. “Careful, sweetheart. Keep talking me up, and I might start thinking I’m the favorite around here.”
You rolled your eyes, but the warmth in your chest was impossible to ignore. With a shake of your head, you pushed off the wall, heading toward the kitchen. “Come on. You at least earned a beer.”
Jake followed easily, eyes twinkling with amusement. “See, now that is a reward I can get behind.”
You grabbed two beers from the fridge, passing him one as you both leaned against the counter.
For a moment, there was only the quiet hum of the house around you. It was a different kind of silence than you were used to. Comfortable. Familiar. Easy.
Jake took a sip of his beer, then glanced at you, something softer in his gaze now. “You know,” he said, voice thoughtful, “tonight wasn’t so bad. She’s a good kid.”
Your chest tightened, that warmth curling deeper. “Yeah,” you murmured. “She is.”
And then, before you could stop it, your mind drifted. To the past. To him. To the man you thought you’d spend your life with. The man who had held your daughter when she was just minutes old, who had whispered promises into her tiny ear, who had loved her with everything he had.
The ache in your heart was always there. Some days it was dull, a quiet hum in the background. Other days it was sharper, catching you off guard when you least expected it.
For so long, you’d feared that no one would ever be able to step into that space he left behind. That no one could ever love your daughter the way he had.
But tonight seemed like something changed. Just a little. Because Jake hadn’t just stepped in. He hadn’t just babysat or kept her entertained.
He had been there. Patient and warm and soft in all the ways you hadn’t expected. He’d let her win their little battles, humored her bedtime stalling, and held her close like it was the most natural thing in the world.
It wasn’t the same. It never could be. But maybe he could be something else for you and your daughter. Something just as important.
Jake set his beer down, rubbing a hand over his jaw. “I meant what I said earlier,” he admitted. “I can handle a tiny human for a few hours. I’d do it again for you.”
Your grip tightened around your bottle as you looked up at him, searching his face. “You would?”
Jake’s gaze was steady, unwavering. “Yeah.” He smirked a little. “Even if she is a tough bedtime critic.”
You let out a breathy laugh, but there was something else behind it. Something more.
Jake tilted his head slightly, eyes narrowing just a fraction. He wasn’t smiling anymore, not like before. He could sense it. The shift in you, the way your thoughts had pulled you somewhere else. But he didn’t push.
He just reached for you, his fingers curling lightly around your wrist before sliding up to tangle with yours. He gave your hand a small squeeze. And that was all it took.
A shaky breath slipped from your lips as you let yourself lean into him, pressing your forehead against his shoulder. Jake didn’t say a word. He held you. He was solid and warm with one hand pressed against the small of your back.
For the first time in a long time, the ache in your chest didn’t feel quite so heavy. It didn’t disappear. It never would. But standing there in Jake’s arms feeling the quiet steadiness of him, you thought maybe you didn’t have to carry it alone anymore.
Jake pulled back slightly, just enough to look at you. His smirk was gone now, replaced by something softer, something real.
“What?” He murmured.
You shook your head, a smile tugging at your lips. “Nothing.”
But it wasn’t nothing. This was him choosing to be here. Choosing you. Choosing her. And maybe you weren’t ready to unpack all of that just yet, but standing here in your kitchen, with Jake Seresin drinking a beer and telling you he’d do it all over again?
Yeah. You could feel yourself falling. Hard.
But before he could press you on it, you took a step closer and pressed another kiss to his cheek, slower this time. Your lips lingering just a second longer.
When you pulled back Jake was watching you with something unreadable in his expression. Something softer than his usual bravado.
Then, ever so quietly, he murmured, “A-minus, huh?”
You laughed, swatting his chest as you turned away. “Drink your beer, Seresin.”
And as he chuckled, taking another sip, you had the distinct feeling that tonight was just the beginning of something much bigger.
Something that, for once, you weren’t afraid of.

Annie was loyal to a fault. For that reason, she was still skeptical about Soldier Boy—about Ben, even after Vought Tower collapsed.
You might’ve been living with him now, but that didn’t mean he was safe, or even a good enough man for you.
She watched you closely in concern while the team filed onto the small private plane. It was set to take you all from northern Pennsylvania back down to New York. You weren’t injured, but in a way, you were still walking wounded.
The rogue supe that the Supe Affairs team was called in to catch had destroyed an office building. You, M.M., and Frenchie had saved a handful of people while Ben and the rest of the team handled the supe. But a young woman slipped right through your fingers off a balcony, falling to the pavement from three stories high.
You still remembered the look of shock cross her face. It was frozen there, even after her body lay prone on the cement. Her blue eyes, perfect mirrors of didn’t see that coming.
That was the picture you couldn’t get out of your head.
Now, you were moving slow, your face tired and drawn. Annie was about to ask if you were okay, even though she knew the answer full well.
Ben reached out his hand to you first. He was ahead of you in the aisle, having put his carry-on bag and yours in the overhead bin. You looked at his hand, and then up at him.
“Come ‘ere,” he said, his voice deep and steady. It steadied you, along with his hand around yours. He guided you not into the seat next to him, but onto his lap. By now he’d changed out of his suit, leaving him in jeans and a dark gray sweater you picked out for him, rolled up to his elbows.
Annie sat with Hughie across the aisle, but she had you and Ben in the corner of her eye. She marveled at the way he was holding you, seeming to know you needed the contact. With a sigh, you allowed yourself to lay against his chest while his warm hand ran up and down your back. A simple touch was all you needed to relax in his arms.
“Don’t mind me. Just gonna sleep for about ten years,” you murmured against his chest. You laid a hand over his heart, silently thanking him as your fingers drifted back and forth.
Ben’s lips quirked upwards. “Just try not to drool on me. New shirt, you know.”
Despite yourself, that managed to make you smile, huffing a laugh. You shoved his shoulder in retaliation. “I don’t drool.”
He knew for a fact that you did, but he just smirked. He sunk his fingers into your hair and inhaled the familiar floral scent of your shampoo.
“Get some shut-eye,” he rumbled. “We’ll be home soon.”
His thumb brushed your cheek, encouraging you to rest. So you did. Your eyes closed on you after you let go of a deep, even breath.
In the grand scheme of things, it was a nothing moment. This was a man who had crumbled two skyscrapers and scarred Hughie for life. (He’d never be able to listen to Air Supply again, pretty much for as long as he lived.)
And yet, maybe it meant Annie could stop worrying so much about your judgment where Ben was concerned.
Only much later, she would realize that this was the moment she actually started to trust him.

Hello! Once again, I cannot believe that my three characters have been loved by so many people (or that I've already gained 20 something followers!!!) thank you <33
WARNING: Yandere behaviour, male reader intended
Green Green Dress
Tumblr media
Yan Jock, who you meet during his practice. You volenteered to bring water to the school's rugby team. He was the team's leader, praising the team for their hard work.
Yan Jock, who stops dead in his tracks when he sees you. He swears he felt his heart stop and start in one second. It was weird...
Yan Jock, who introduces himself soothly ("Stephen at your service, delivery boy ;)") all while his heart beats inside his heart like war drum
Yan Jock, who, from that day on, invites you to his table and sits next to you during lunch (you sadly don't share any classes). He chats to you about practice, his friends and family and whatever else he finds interesting enough
Yan Jock, who you form a friendship with! Well, at least that's how you view it. Stephen views it as a challenge and a punishment. No boy should look so attractive! So why do his eyes wander your body like he does the girls in the school...?
Yan Jock, who is just a dumb little buffed up puppy who is realising that maybe the way he looks at muscular men isn't fully platonic
Yan Jock, who, as you get closer, starts to treat you like he did the past girls he's dated. Giving you his jersey, putting his arm around your shoulders, asking for a good luck hug (it's supposed to be a kiss, but he can't :c)
Yan Jock, who really loves dancing. It's a basically fun exercise. He's not good in the professional sense, but he's still good! (100% asks you to dance when you two start dating, maybe even before)
Yan Jock, who glares dagers at anyone who approaches you with romantic intent (mind you, everything that isn't formal is considered romantic intent by him) before wrapping his arm around you and kindly (threatiningly) tells the other person to fuck off.
Yan Jock, who isn't above punching the person, but doesn't want you to be mad at him
Yan Jock, who melts when you two finally kiss. It wasn't at a big moment. No big game. No party. Just you two walking around your hometown. He leaned down to hear you better and you had enough of the dancing around he's been doing for months and kissed him. Safe to say he will be asking for kisses every day (he's not taking no for an answer)
Yan Jock, who physically holds you back from going somewhere. He's stronger than you. A lot stronger. So when he doesn't want you going somewhere, he will throw you over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes and happily skip away to cuddle under the bleachers. Stephen is the type of partner who asks to come with you to the bathroom
Yan Jock, who hates when someone yells at him or expresses their disappointment. He can't handle it. Stephen has been the "Golden boy" for so long. He can't lose that. So, if you ever want him to let go of you just use that! Don't worry, a little kiss on the lips will cheer the jock right up!
Yan Jock, who has the most perfect ass. Some of the girls at your school are jealous. And some guys question their sexualities because of it. And you? Oh, you're enjoying the whole damn bakery every day (not like Stephen minds)
Yan Jock, who, when meeting your parents, acts all anxious and worried, but that doesn't last long. 10 minutes later, he is talking with your dad about all types of sports while complimenting your mother's decor choices. He knocks it out of the park! You knew he would! (Stephen is definitely asking your dad for your hand in marriage. That's not negotiable for him.)
Yan Jock, who daydreams about having the picture-perfect family with you after school. White picket fence, a good home in a friendly neighbourhood with a huge backyard where your two kids and dog can run around in. Oh, it's the dream!
Yan Jock, who will carry you through life. He's trained all his life!...If only that emo nerd you insist on being friends with would just piss off already, then it would all be perfect...

Club Support(RenéeSlegersXKyraCooneyCrossXSlegersReader)
Tumblr media
Summary: you go to a Game to support your Mom and the team. One of the Girls Starts flirting with you without knowing who you are.
You sat in the friend and family section during the Game against Aston Villa. Your moms Team won 4-1. You were quite proud of your Mom. She was the new headcoach for Arsenal, which always happened to be your favorite Team. Altough you weren't doing anything Football related. You were a firefighter/EMT. You just turned 23 and enjoyed working out. You did Basketball as a hobby.
After the game you walked onto the field. Before you could approach your Mom a brunette showed up right in front of you.
"well hello. Who do we have here? You must have fallen from heaven cause you look like an Angel!" Kyra said with a Mix of flirting and trying to Joke. You giggled a little.
"Not am Angel. Just a firefighter & EMT." You explained. "And my Name is y/n!" You added on. Renée was watching the whole interaction from a few feet away, standing next to Steph & Leah.
"does she know she is flirting with your daughter?" Leah asked.
"nope! She wasn't there when y/n picked me up after practice last time! She was in with the Physio." Your mom answered.
"Oh little pest is in for an emotional Rollercoaster once she finds out." Steph replied with a soft chuckle escaping her lips. Both Leah & your Mom were laughing. You glanced over to them. Knowing exactly what they were laughing about.
You then return to look at Kyra who then proceeded to flirt asking if she can buy a calender of you dressed in your firefighter gear.
"you can't buy a calender but if you play your cards right i can make you one!"you told her, winking at her. The face she made when you said this was priceless and you weren't the only one thinking that cause now your Mom, Leah and Steph where joined by Lia, Alessia, Katie , Caitlin & Beth.
"oh this Is fun to watch!" Beth said. Alessia and the others couldn't help but agree.
"even as one of her best friends i have to agree with you!" Alessia answered.
"this Is comedy gold!" Katie stated.
"can i take you on a date then. Cause i am sure i can Play my cards right!" Kyra let you know.
"i love your confidence!" You answered. Waiting for a few seconds to add something to your statement. "I mean it's so bold of you to just ask me out and flirt with me while my Mom is around!" You let her know.
"where is your Mom?" She asked and looked around. "What does she look like?" Kyra wanted to know. Which was your moms queue to walk over. The Girls from her team where excited about this like it was Christmas Eve.
"i see you have met my daughter." Your mom said and smiled amused. Patting Kyras shoulder and hugging you. You hug her back.
"hi Mom!" You replied. Laughing at kyras face. She stared at the two of you, mouth wide open and her eyes looked like they were gonna fall out of her skull. She was brought back to the Moment by all the Girls laughing. Katie was bend over, hitting her knees with her fists. She absolutly lost it.
"oh pest this Is hilarious!" Steph said in between laughs. Kyra flipped her off, she was about to walk away in embarrassment but you stopped her, gently holding her arm.
"so about that Date? how about i take you out tonight? Or you could come to my place and i can cook for you!" You suggested.
"but Renée, i mean your Mom is my Coach..." She started but your mom interrupted her before things would get awkward again.
"my daughter is an adult. So are you! If you want to go on a date i am all for it as long as it doesn't affect your performance in a negative way!" Your mom told her.
"thank you! It won't!" Kyra said with a smile. You kissed her cheek.
"Take a shower and then meet me in the parking lot. I am taking you home with me right away for Dinner and a movie!" You told her. She walked past the girls, now she was the one grinning and the Girls looked quite impressed that she actually managed to get a date with you after that.
Didn't take long for you to get together and you went to almost every Game. When you weren't working of course. Wearing an Arsenal Jersey with cooney-cross written on the back of course.

The Queen of Romantasy and the Race Car Prince - Chapter 4
Pairing: Lando Norris x Elizabeth "Lizzie" Treshton (Original Character)
Summary:
Elizabeth Treshton—bestselling romantasy author, queen of fae heartbreak, and sworn devotee of a carefully structured routine—never expected her service dog to abandon protocol and diagnose a Formula 1 driver with something. But that’s exactly what happens when Mara the wonder-dog ditches Lizzie’s side to aggressively alert to none other than Lando Norris in the middle of a coffee shop.
Warnings and Notes:
Mention of epilepsy, seizures and service animals. I don't myself suffer from epilepsy, so I asked my IRL friend, who thankfully was nice enough to let me ask her all the questions I could come up with. The rest I asked Reddit. So everything that's wrong...that's totally my fault and not on purpose.
As always big thanks to @llirawolf , who listens to me ramble

"I still can’t believe that you aren’t freaking out!?"
Lizzie didn't even bother to open her eyes at that question.
She was laying sprawled out on the massive garden swing her father had built nearly two decades ago, with Mara curled up on her stomach like a massive judgemental heating pad. It helped some against the muscle aches that her latest seizure had left her with, and not really at all with the the feeling of tiredness and like she had been hit by a bus.
Which was the reason why she was laying around on the garden swing and not actually help her father and Tasha’s mother with their…weekly gardening.
Tasha poked her and Lizzie just sighed.
Tasha was completely and utterly unapologetic about interrogating her and Lizzie wasn't in the mood to actually answer her best friend slash pseudo sister slash whatever the heck you called the daughter of your godmother when your father was also her godfather.
Their little family it was, even when it wasn't the most normal one. Lizzie's father and Aunt Lou had grown up down the street together...had gone to school together, later on to university...and had been best friends all throughout that. They had each gone on to get married, and had Lizzie and Natasha weeks apart. Tasha's father had been died when she had been 2...and Lizzie's parents marriage had spectacularly imploded by the time she was 6 and after that...well. It had always been just the four of them.
"Because I'm not freaking out," Lizzie finally said with a deep sigh. She was trying to take another nap, but Tasha's incessant questions weren't exactly helping.
"You should be freaking out," Tasha said, completely disregarding Lizzie's need for peace. "Lando Norris, formula one driver, is reading your book!“
"And he's probably just reading it as a curiosity," Lizzie said, trying to rationalize things. She didn’t think that lando was actually going to finish the book. Romantasy was not the kind of things that a guy like Lando Norris would read for fun…and maybe that would make their eventual break up easier.
Even when there was a part of Lizzie that was melting about the fact that he had wanted to get Mara a gift for her birthday.
Still.
She drew her fingernails through Mara’s short chocolate brown fur.
Tasha, however, wasn't having any of it. She gave Lizzie an unimpressed look. "Did you miss the part where Oscar Piastri is also reading it, because his girlfriend loves your series?"
Lizzie opened her mouth to respond but Tasha wasn't done yet. "We are talking about two formula 1 racers, who probably have tons of friends and maybe even more formula 1 drivers who are reading you book! They might even recommend it to the rest of the grid! And you don’t care! Who are you and what have you done to my Lizzie?!"
Lizzie couldn’t help but laugh at that, opening her eyes to look at Tasha energetically gesturing, blonde hair flying around as she twisted to look at Lizzie.
"Maybe I am freaking out a little bit," Lizzie admitted drily. “I just don’t have the energy to get all animated right now.”
Tasha harrumphed. “This is like the most interesting your life has been in years!“ Tasha said brightly. “First cafe guy, now F1 drivers that read your books! How is cafe guy by the way?”
"Fine," Lizzie said vaguely.
Tasha noticed and raised an eyebrow. "Just fine?" Lizzie could see the beginnings of a smirk in Tasha's eyes, and she already knew where this was going.
“He’s traveling for work,” she answered truthfully. It wasn’t a lie…and she wasn’t ready yet to admit to exactly who she was dating. She was pretty sure that Tasha was going to have a heart attack if Lizzie came around the corner with “Oh, you know the guy I am seeing? It’s Lando Norris.”.
“He saw me posting for Mara’s birthday and is now insisting that he’ll get her a gift,” Lizzie said softly.
Tasha's eyebrows shot up. "Wait, seriously? He's buying a gift for your dog’s birthday? That’s the cutest fucking thing I have ever heard."
Lizzie nodded, a small smile tugging at her lips. "Yeah, can you believe it? It's kind of sweet, actually."
"It's definitely sweet. So sweet that I am gonna throw up," Tasha agreed, a knowing glint in her eye. "And it definitely doesn't sound like just a fling to me."
Lizzie pressed her lips together at that.
“Uh oh,” Tasha said drily. “What’s going on in that head of yours Lizzie Lou?”
Lizzie sighed. “It’s not like it matters.”
“Why wouldn’t it matter?”
Lizzie hesitated again, scratching Mara’s ears as a distraction. “It’s just… my mum left when she couldn’t handle my epilepsy. If she couldn’t stick around, how can I expect anyone else to?”
Tasha’s whole face scrunched up in immediate protest. “First of all, fuck her. Second of all, that’s not on you.”
Lizzie shrugged. “Maybe it’s not fair to put that on someone else, though. What if I love someone, and then they realize it’s too much?”
Tasha poked her in the forehead. “Then they don’t deserve you.”
Lizzie let out a humorless laugh. “You say that like it’s that simple.”
“It is that simple.” Tasha flopped onto the swing beside her, throwing her legs over Lizzie’s lap. “Look, I stick around. Mara sticks around. Your dad sticks around. My mum sticks around. We don’t do that because it’s easy. We do it because we love you.”
Lizzie slumped against the swing cushions. "I know, I know. You all love me. But that's different."
Tasha rolled her eyes, reaching down to whack Lizzie on the head. "Don't be an idiot. It's not different. Not one bit. We love you, and that's why we stick around."
"But it's just you guys," Lizzie argued, her voice muffled against the pillow, she buried her head into."Family is different. This is like, romantically sticking around."
Tasha scoffed. "Oh, so family love is stronger than romantic love? Is that what you're trying to tell me?"
Lizzie lifted her head to give Tasha a look. “No, you idiot. It’s just...it’s different, alright? Family is supposed to stick around. It’s like...a given. Romantic love...is supposed to be fun, and easy, and not have all these...issues.”
Tasha rolled her eyes. "Oh, right. Because the perfect relationship is one where nothing ever goes wrong and everything is sunshine and roses. That sounds like a load of horseshit to me.”
Lizzie groaned, burying her face into the pillow again. "You know what I mean. Obviously, relationships aren't always going to be easy. But...epilepsy isn't just a minor issue. It's a pretty big deal. A lot to handle."
Tasha ran her fingers through Lizzie’s hair, her touch surprisingly soothing. “Look, I’m not going to pretend like epilepsy doesn’t complicate things. Of course it does. But you’re acting like you’re some kind of burden, like you’re less deserving of love than anyone else. That’s bullshit, Lizzie. And you know it.”
“It’s just a shitty deal for anybody to take,” Lizzie mumbled. “He could have any other girl, any other girl that doesn’t get seizures, that doesn’t need a service dog.”
Tasha smacked her upside the head again, harder this time. “Shut up. God, you’re so bloody stupid sometimes.”
Lizzie winced, rubbing the spot where Tasha had hit her. "Ouch, that hurt."
Tasha snorted. "Good. Maybe it’ll knock some sense into you."
Lizzie huffed, shoving Tasha’s legs off of her lap in retaliation. “I’m just being realistic here.”
“No, you’re being pessimistic,” Tasha retorted. “You’re basically assuming that this guy is going to run away as soon as things get difficult.”
“Well, what if he does?” Lizzie asked, her voice small. “What if he realizes that I’m not worth it?”
Tasha rolled her eyes. “Then he’s a total idiot, and he doesn’t deserve you anyway. And there is a million other good guys out there who would happily take his place.”
“I don’t want a million other guys,” Lizzie grumbled, feeling like a petulant child. “I want that one, I think.”
Tasha gave her a sympathetic look. “I know you do. But you’re sabotaging yourself before you’ve even given him a chance. Give him credit, yeah? Maybe he’s not as shallow as you think.”
Lizzie sighed, knowing that Tasha was right, but still feeling scared. "But what if he doesn't get it? What if he can't handle it when I have a seizure?"
Tasha shrugged. "That's a risk you take with any relationship, epilepsy or not. But you won't know until you give it a chance."
Lizzie opened her mouth to protest but Tasha cut her off. "Shut up. Don't give me any more of your stupid reasons. You just need to let it happen, alright?"
Lizzie rolled her eyes, but deep down she knew Tasha was right. "Alright, fine. I’ll try. But if it all goes to crap, I’m blaming you."
Tasha grinned. "Oh, I’ll gladly take the blame if that’s how it goes. But I think it’ll be fine. This guy already sounds way nicer than any of the guys you’ve dated in the past."
Aunt Lou’s laughter rang through the garden and Lizzie turned to watch her father and aunt laugh about something or other. They looked younger like that. Carefree. Unburdened.
“You think they’ll ever figure it out?” She asked Tasha with a sigh.
“Nah. They’ll be living in denial in 40 years when we visit them in their old people’s home,” Tasha said drily. “You know. Still having biweekly scrabble nights and making each other playlists filled with love songs…and sharing a vegetable garden.”
“Girls! What are we thinking for dinner?!” Her father called loudly as he helped aunt lou to her feet.
Tasha shot Lizzie a small grin, her eyes glittering with amusement. "Think we can con them into ordering takeaway?"
Lizzie snickered, the tension in her shoulders relaxing at the familiar banter. “Worth a try. You do the talking.”
“Always do,” Tasha said with a mock salute. She hopped off the swing, grabbing Lizzie’s hand and tugging her up as well. “Come on. Let’s go get some pepperoni pizza.”

kang sae-byeok felt a strain in her muscles walking out into the arena. floodlights illuminating her sweaty face and slender frame. she slapped her muscles and shook of any weight she had in her body, flexing her tatted arms and back, cracking her neck, popping her knees and punching in her exposed stomach.
the crowds chanting got louder and louder by each second, frothing in anticipation. each and every one of them placing their bets on their biased boxer. a restless tide crashing against the shores of the fighters' silence.
she felt around inside the foam boxing gloves, getting used to the tight space. punching and swishing her hand in the air to break it in. her sports bra beginning to tighten around her, suffocating her.
sae-byeok glared at the woman standing in front of her. tall, lean, poised and unshaken. her crazy hair going in all sorts of directions. a sharp disgusted look painted her opponents face.
a silence stretched between them.
sae-byeok tilted her chin. perceptibly flexing her fingers as the muscles under her skin move. a silent but deadly action, sending a clear message to her opponent:
i don't fear you.
the bell rang through the thick air. there was no going back now.
sae-byeok's opponent strided towards her, covering her face with her red gloves. a jab snapped towards sae-byeok's face sending electric shocks throughout her lower jaw.
sae-byeok had barely ducked in time, taking a half-blow to her cheek.
she was not going to give up. the woman's eyes were unreadable in the dim lighting of the ring. sae-byeok saw the glint in her teeth. the subtle action of the woman smirking fueled sae-byeok's desire to win.
sae-byeok struck the woman in the nose, a trail of crimson ran down her lips. the impact sent her into a whiplash for a second before sae-byeok continued hooking on her ribs. the collision was rock solid, a satisfying crunch of leather and flesh rang throughout the arena.
her rival didn't back down, however. instead, she pressed forward, forcing the short-haired girl back with low-blows, the rhythm of the fight shifted, both fighters were relentless.
sae-byeok managed to send a punch to her underarm, disabling it from pushing her forward.
the berserk woman stumbled but didn’t fall. Instead, she spat onto the canvas, rolling her jaw with a grim, almost amused smirk.
sweat trickled down sae-byeok's spine. tracing her visible back tattoo. she wasn't going to give up now.
they were now circling each other, the back to back coming to a halt as they put their gloves up, footsteps light and calculated.
sae-byeok watched the expression of the woman creeping before her change, this made her curl her fists inside the gloves tighter. ready for any attack the woman had against her, waiting for the next strike.
the woman took two quick and heavy steps before her arms flailed into the air, ready to knock out the slender girl infront of her.
an opening.
sae-byeok ducked low before her opposition could lay a hand on her, her weight shifting onto her front foot before driving an uppercut right under the crazed woman's jaw, knocking the air out of her and snapping her head back.
with this advantage, sae-byeok gave her a low-blow. making her crash into the plush ground.
3..
2..
1..
the crowds were split in two, the roars of victory overtaking the disappointed, angry sighs and complaints.
sae-byeok sighed deeply, relishing in her triumph before looking back at her rival who was on all floors, clutching her jaw in grimaced pain.
"good game." sae-byeok taunted, her voice low, just for the woman to hear and stare daggers up at her, before spitting on the ground next to her and walking off, wiping away the dried blood on her temple.
Tumblr media
the atmosphere at the children's home was.. serene. it was too quiet. too unusual for sae-byeok. she could hear the faint rustling of oak trees outside and the light chirping from house sparrows, circling the air.
she crouched on the small red chair of the visitor's room, her pouty lips were pressed into a line, studying her brother, cheol's mannerisms as he picked on his food, swishing and splashing the miyeokguk with his wooden spork beside her.
"stop doing that will you?.. you know, something's up with you today." sae-byeok doted, brushing off the hair that covered his cheek, revealing a freshly placed bandage.
before sae-byeok could question and pry at her brother for answers, cheol started :
"you went back didn't you?"
"what?"
"to fighting, in the place with bad people in it." cheol reminded sae-byeok. his face was stern and solemn.
"i told you i didn't like seeing you get hurt, and i don't like seeing you hurt others."
her usual apathetic expression quickly turned into a slight frown that shined in the golden haze of the afternoon.
"cheol, i've told you this a million times.. that place.. it gets us the money we need." the short-haired girl ducked to catch her brother's gaze.
when she noticed cheol avoid eye contact with her, she frustratedly ran her slender fingers through her hair.
"cheol." the north-korean cleared her throat, biting and licking on her chapped lips.
"the money that i've earned from today alone.. it could pay for all of this week's meals and necessities. it's a huge sum. if we are able to save up and spend our money wisely, i would be able to get mom out of the north, i'd be able to get you a real home, cheol. you, me, mom."
cheol lifted his gaze from the seaweed soup. his teary eyes caught sae-byeok's tired ones.
"all the kids say that you're lying. that you're just making fake promises." his voice broke, tears started to run down his puffy cheeks.
sae-byeok couldn't believe what his brother was saying, shaking her head frantically before wrapping him in a bear hug.
"don't listen to them. what they say doesn't matter, they don't know the reality of our situation."
sae-byeok could feel her brother shake under her arms. quiet sobs escaping from his quivering lips. her grip on him tightened.
her tough heart saddened at the condition of her brother. echoes of apologies directed to her brother invaded her mind.
"how about we go to that favorite night market of yours? with the kind auntie who sells tteokbokki?" the short-haired girl whispered into his ears, the mention of his favorite dish made him quirk up his head.
Tumblr media
the pair were hand in hand. sae-byeok's left hand was holding a folded envelope full of money she had earned from the fight, her opposite hand was intertwined with cheol's tiny hand.
the streets was quieter than usual, a few cars and tour buses had passed by them, the vehicles hummed under the red traffic lights.
sae-byeok admired the horizon as she strolled. you would've thought the gradient afternoon sky was made for a humid, sunny day, but it was freezing outside. a gust of wind past by them, the cold breeze made sae-byeok zip up her jacket close.
the sister-brother duo was quiet throughout the walk to the station, they both enjoyed the silence, however.
the quietness was just a gesture of comfort and reassurance to them.
they entered the sterile looking train station, sae-byeok's boots and cheol's sneakers squeaked at the slippery floor, the noise pierced through the barren entrance of the station.
cheol was curiously admiring the colorful, tattered posters that decorated the station's wall, his eyes following the pattern of colorful posters as they walked.
the trance that cheol was in was interrupted by a long hallway of the train station coming into view beside him. a man walking behind a girl suspiciously close to her.
cheol stopped in his tracks.
the man was dressed in an all black tux, he was following behind the girl, his phone was sneaked right under her skirt.
you instinctively turned your head back, feeling somebody's presence behind you. your weary eyes met with the disgusting face of a man, maybe in his 30s, in a full tux, his saggy eyes bore unto the camera he held under your skirt.
you panicked at the man's action, quickly slapping his phone to the ground, a shatter rang through the narrow hallway.
you stumbled back as you interrogated the man, your expression grimaced.
"ya! what do you think you're doing?!" your grip tightened around your briefcase. your high-pitched yelling startled cheol, who was frantically tugging at sae-byeok.
sae-byeok eventually noticed the scene that was unfolding in the long hallway beside the pair. her eyes narrowed, finding your stiff body, backed against the wall by a drunk businessman. a feeling bubbled up in sae-byeok's chest, an ugly feeling that she's never felt before. her jaw ticked.
"noona, what's wrong with them?" cheol questioned, looking up at his agitated sister.
fear and disgust clawed your skin.
your lips that held a content smile from the great work day you had today turn into a harsh scowl.
"oh baby, don't tell me that you don't like it when i do that." the man slurred, his steps slow and wobbly as he cornered you into the cold walls of the station, kneeing you against the wall.
"go away!? seriously you people are disgusting!" your voice gruff, shoving the man away from you with your hands with a hundred percent of your power.
the force may have made the man stumble back, but it had made him even angrier, he charged towards you.
"crazy bitch!" he barked, gripping your shoulders shoving you aggressively into the wall, making your back arch in pain.
sae-byeok bolted towards the commotion, her face sour.
she stuffed the brown envelope on her hand into the pocket of her bomber jacket, replacing it with her swiss army knife, her grip on it tightened as she flicked it open, the blade reflected the white lights of the station.
her ears rang, drowning out cheol’s shouts as she walked away. each step was deliberate and heavy, the sound of her feet striking the slick floor shifting from a faint squeak to sharp, forceful stomps.
you cowered under the drunk man's grip. shutting your eyes, accepting your fate.
suddenly, you felt the weight of the man that was leaning towards you being lifted off. you gasped for air before frantically averting your gaze to a tall short-haired girl pinning the man down beside you, gripping the collar of his cheap tuxedo with her other hand handling the knife, pressing it under his chin.
"didn't you hear what she said? go away, bastard." sae-byeok's voice grumbled, threatening the sloppy man infront of her. "mess with her, you mess with my knife."
"what is wrong with girls nowadays? i can take on both of you." his croaky voice mocked you.
you were in disbelief, your mouth agape. how could someone be such a disgrace..? you thought.
with that comment, sae-byeok harshly kneed the creep's diaphragm, causing him to spasm. she grasped his shoulder blades before throwing him on the ground, a loud groan escaping his mouth.
you stared in shock at the scene, covering your mouth as you winced at every time the girl landed a punch or a slap on the man.
the man managed to violently strike sae-byeok to the ground, making her lose touch of the blade, the swiss army knife skidded away to the opposite side of the wall.
before the man could kick sae-byeok's curled up frame, you decided to help by throwing in a measly punch on his nose, you felt his cartilage shift at the force of your knuckles on his nose, making his eyes water.
you had never punched anyone before, so with the impact, a jolt of electricity ran throughout your body, making you yelp in pain, your knuckles reddened.
"gosh, that hurts!"
the punch worked, making the man trip over his own foot.
he scoured back on the ground seeing that sae-byeok had already gotten up, eyes firing with rage. the blade held firm on her hand.
sae-byeok kneeled down and reached for the man's head of hair, grasping it, making him lean his head back.
the chilling blade ran through his neck, the force wasn't enough to cut through.
you watched in fear as you saw the kneeled down girl run her knife across the man's neck as he pleaded.
was she actually going to kill him?
you closed your eyes with a heavy sigh when you watched her merely slash the knife on his cheek.
blood dripped down his oily, defined cheekbone as he winced in pain.
"consider this a warning, yeah?" sae-byeok gave him a cold, manic smile. she relished in the fear that gleamed in the man's eyes.
the man nodded frantically before scrambling and picking himself up, retreating to the other side of the station.
"noona!" cheol gasped at the sight of his sister's bloody knife and bruised knuckles. "are you okay?"
you softened at the sight of the little boy running towards the older girl, your gaze travelled upwards to find her face.
your savior.
you couldn't've imagined what would happen if she wasn't there in your defense. your heart swelled with gratitude.
your hands reached for the taller girl's shoulders, "oh my. are you okay? thank you so much for saving—"
you were cut off by the sight of the girl fully ignoring you, her expression turned cold, hastily darting around the corner with her brother.
you were at such a state of confusion that your face scrunched.
what just happened?
you wanted answers to the unsolved mystery of the girl that had saved you. you felt an unfamiliar magnetic pull towards her, it made you trail behind her, your steps light and breezy.
sae-byeok quickly noticed you following her.
the agitated feeling quickly crawled up the back of her neck again, shooting you a look that screamed : leave us alone.
but you were persistent. without a word, you followed her to the faregates. swiping your metro card to whatever place she was going to. strutting past the open gates to continue pursuing her.
cheol looked back at you, slightly worried at the sight of your determined face.
"noona, i think the lady wants to talk to you." he whispered innocently. "is she okay?"
"don't look back, cheol." sae-byeok demanded, her face grim. her subtle walking turned into long strides.
just in time, the train pulled up to the station, waves of people pool out the just barren platform and sae-byeok was quick to enter the last car.
you picked up your pace and pushed your way through the sea of people, stubbornness evident in every step.
you manage to squeeze in the last second before the train doors closed, cramped in a crowd of businessman, high school students and office workers.
you squeezed your way right in front of the tall girl. furrowing your brows as you looked up to her.
she was already staring at you as you make your way to her, her head slightly tilted upwards, expressionless. the little boy hid behind his sister, his tiny hands held the hem of the sleeves of her jacket.
"what was that?" you asked, batting your eyelashes in dismay.
radio silence.
you waved your manicured hands in front of her face. "helloo? you just saved me?"
"it was nothing."
"nothing..? oh right, nothing. now imagine what would've happened to me if you weren't there."
your words made sae-byeok stiff, she loosened the grip she had on her brother. she couldn't imagine what would've happened to you, she seethed at the thought.
you frowned at the change in her expression.
"at least let me thank you, please. where are you guys headed?" you diverted your gaze to the girl's brother, who was shyly peeking out his sister's back.
cheol looked up at sae-byeok, looking for signs he was still cowering behind her.
she gave him a look, signing him to not answer to you. but cheol being cheol, mistook it for the opposite.
"we're going to the.. uh.. street food market." cheol mumbled fixing his puffer jacket that was too big on him.
sae-byeok mentally facepalmed at her brother's response, throwing her head back, before instinctively looking through the train's windows into the abyss.
"gwangjang? the one in jongno district..?" you questioned, earning a nod from the little boy. "i live in that area, please as a sign of gratitude, let me treat you both to lunch!"
cheol looked up at his deeply troubled sister, catching her tired, narrowed eyes.
he had realized his mistake now, pressing his lips into a thin line and hung his head in embarrassment.
she took a deep sigh looking at her moping little brother, pinching her nose bridge, "if we accept would you please leave us alone?.."
"yes! yes, of course, i will get out of your hair." you smiled sweetly from victory, the taller girl's face twitched.
so with that, she looked you dead in the eye before her eyes trailed up and down your body. making you shift in your position.
"whatever." sae-byeok mumbled, too hungry to argue back.
gotcha.
you squealed internally, a wave of relief washed over you.
you turned towards the trains windows, your right hand steadily held the train car handles, you left arm cradled your briefcase, your face brightened up with a satisfied smile, pleased with the short-haired girl's reply.
sae-byeok's head was still turned towards you. observing every inch of you, the way you smiled and hummed to yourself, the way your eyes flickered from the ground then to her brother, the way you lowered your head after sae-byeok finally accepted your offer..
amongst the deep irritation inside of her towards you, there was also a sprinkle of curiosity.
why were you so determined to thank her?.. if sae-byeok was in your shoes, she would've definitely just went back in the comfort of her own home.
the north-korean rolled her eyes, not wanting her thoughts to be clouded with you. instead, she put all of her attention to cheol who was also inquisitively staring at you, furrowing her eyebrows at the sight.
like sister, like brother i guess.

the cold afternoon breeze felt comforting on your skin, even though a piercing silence went on between you and the girl next to you.
cheol skipped ahead of you both, admiring the city scene since he hasn't really had the chance to be in the city ever since he was enrolled in the children's home.
his eyes wandered around the tall buildings, the high-end department stores, worn-down shop houses and hole-in-the-wall fast food stores.
you and sae-byeok strolled right behind the boy. your eyes were fixated at his amazed demeanor, smiling at the heart-warming scene in front of you.
sae-byeok was just bitterly walking in brooding silence, deep in thought.
the silence between you two was awkward, the only thing breaking the ice was cheol's frequent "what's that building?" and "look it's tayo!" commentary.
"what's your name?" you asked gently looking up at sae-byeok, testing the waters. wondering if it's safe enough to ask questions to the stone-cold girl.
"none of your business."
"what? so do you want me to call you blade girl then?" you teased, flicking your hair.
she shot you an annoyed, stern look. "please don't."
"tell me your name then!" you whined, looking at her properly this time. your eyes lost in sae-byeok's brown ones, the shared gaze lingering for a little too long.
the taller girl contemplated, clearing her throat before she tore her eyes away from you, now looking at cheol who was speeding up his pace.
"noona, we're here!"
she looked back at you still waiting for an answer, and instead of giving you what you want, she repositioned herself next to her brother, leaving you asking more questions in your mind.
you entered the market right behind the duo, taking in the vibrant hue of warm lighting. the air was thick with the scent of mouth-watering street food.
the market wasn't as packed as it usually was, but you could see that there was still crowds of people sitting by the stalls, stuffing themselves with comfort food. the hum of conversations blends with the rhythmic chopping of knives and the sizzle of oil.
you followed the pair to a more secluded side of the street food stalls, they stopped to take a seat in a bench in front of a cozy stall, a kind-faced auntie greeted them with such gentleness.
sae-byeok looked at you, she looked hesitant, pressing her lips together before starting.
"can.. can we eat here?"
you were surprised at the sudden vulnerableness the girl had, you would've thought she'd just grab and take whatever she wants, drain out your bank account.
not that the food was that expensive, though.
"yeah.. of course." your voice softened, nodding in assurance before smiling at the boy next to her, "get anything you want, okay?"
cheol's eyes lit up, taking a seat, sandwiched between you and sae-byeok before asking the auntie for the usual and some other dishes.
sae-byeok couldn't lie, but your gesture has brought an excited expression to cheol that she has rarely ever seen, and it tugged on her heartstrings.
sae-byeok nodded in appreciation, "thank you."
"it was nothing." you giggled, mimicking the girl's words from before, earning an awkward, tight-lipped smile from sae-byeok.
you smiled at her sweetly before ordering a twigim platter and a glass of sikhye.
it was humid inside the market, especially in the narrow space you three were crammed in, so you took of your gloomy, grey, cropped work blazer and placed it beside you, on top of your work briefcase.
sae-byeok mimicked your actions, zipping open her bomber jacket, rolling up her black, loose t-shirt's sleeves to reveal her tatted upper arm.
your eyes widened while your cheeks flushed at the sight of the pretty red ink trailing down her arm, the girl's arm flexed as she stretched. a red dragon tattoo wrapped around her biceps, it somewhat matched the short-haired girl.
"i like your tattoo." you commented, wiping your hands with sanitary wipes before using the steel chopsticks to take a bite of tempura seaweed roll.
sae-byeok looked up from her plate of kimbap, her eyes caught yours that was reflecting the gold hue from the single bulb that hung above the stall, before shyly looking down at her arms.
"thank you." she mumbled, tying her hair into a half up half down style.
you nodded, taking a sip of your rice punch. an unfamiliar comfortable silence appeared between the group.
you'd hate to admit, but the raven-haired girl beside you was attractive. you went dry mouth when you saw her jaw tick open, taking a bite of her food. the way her freckled nose twitched at the scent of cheol's tteokbokki being cooked, the way she gave him a delighted slight smirk when he excitedly retrieved the styrofoam plate full with tteokbokki from the auntie.
"excuse me, noona?" cheol looked up at you breaking your trance, his hands hung in the air, holding a spoonful of tteok. the boy was still a tiny bit skeptical about you, but his curiosity pushed him to his limits.
"yes.. uhh?" you trailed off, quirking your eyebrow up.
"cheol.." he hummed, you nodded, "what's inside your bag?"
"oh, my briefcase?" you quipped, shifting to place the briefcase on your lap, clicking the lock open.
the brother-sister duo looked at you curiously with a similar expression on their face. sae-byeok's eyes lingering on you a bit longer as she chewed on her food.
"i study architecture, so i'd have to have my tools with me you know." you smiled, voice like honey.
your hands trailed on the neatly stored scale rulers, cutting knife case and tracing papers.
the pair's eyes followed your hands as you flipped the case over, another section of books and a colorful array of pens and pencils were revealed.
"wow! so many colors.." the little boy gasped in awe.
you giggled at his reaction, finding it cute. you slipped out your thick sketchbook and flip through the pages, bringing it close to cheol so he could see.
"mhm, i also draw from time to time, they're mostly of sceneries around me." you explained gently. sae-byeok took quick glances at you and cheol from time to time, in between bites.
she wondered how cheol was so open to talking to you, he was typically a quiet kid at the children's home, reserved. he kept to himself, if someone insults him, he'd go hard on them.
"i also really like drawing, but i don't think i'm as good as you, noona." he acknowledged. his eyes stuck on a sketch of a stray cat by a tree.
your heart swelled at the compliment, how could someone sweet like cheol have a tough-hearted sister like blade girl? you thought.
"it takes practice, you know. i could teach you if you want." you offered, his mouth curved upwards,
"really? thank you noona.." cheol's eyes crinkled at you before digging into his plate of tteokbokki once again.
the market lights flickered, casting long shadows through the plastic tarps that lined the food stalls.
occasionally, sae-byeok would glance up, as if about to say something, only to decide against it, instead nudging a piece of her kimbap towards you.
you eyed it for a moment before taking it without a word. a silent acceptance.
sae-byeok could feel her guard slipping away from her every second, but she rebuilt that wall over and over again throughout the evening.
the afternoon turned evening turned in to a warm conversation, mostly between you and cheol about your shared interest of drawing, cheol's dream of going to a public school and all of "your favorite.."s
"what's your favorite insect, noona?" cheol asked innocently.
"do you seriously want me to answer that?"
sae-byeok also joined the conversation when you asked where'd she learn self defense from, you were clearly amazed on how she handled the creep the way she did.
"so.. where did you learn how to fight like that?" you queried, swishing a prawn tempura around the styrofoam plate.
sae-byeok nudged cheol, giving him a stony glare. his mouth was already opened wide to answer the question for her but he was quickly reminded of his place, so he slumped back into his seat before he stole a single kimbap from sae-byeok's plate.
"i..i do taekwondo."
you raised your eyebrow at the odd interaction of the two strangers, but quickly shrugged it off.
to you,
there was no need to fill the space with words.
the warmth of the meal, the quiet sounds of chopsticks clinking against bowls, the soft presence of a brother and sister duo who wasn’t asking for much—
it was enough.
you thought about why did you insist on having lunch with them for a second as you sipped the remnants of your sikhye and realized that you're having the sweet indirect family time you've always longed for.
the simple act of sharing food—none of it was grand or dramatic, but it filled a space inside you that had always been empty.
you have been dismissed by your parents your whole life, they say it's to train your independence skills but that clearly did nothing.
instead, it made you deprived of social.. heck, any interaction.
but being next to the mysterious girl you had deemed your savior and her adorable little brother, they simply existed beside you, allowing you to take up space by answering your questions without asking for anything in return. they'd even spark up conversations of their own.
you stared down at your empty cup, tracing the rim with your thumb.
“thanks,” you murmured, barely above a whisper.
sae-byeok looked up, chopsticks pausing mid-air, her face still stuffed. "for what?"
you hesitated, then shrugged. "for not telling me to shut up."
she blinked, then snorted softly, her tough exterior breaking for a second. “you barely talk.”
"no, i know, it's just.." you let out a breathy laugh, trailing off.
sae-byeok shared a silent understanding that you didn't want to continue with the subject of the conversation, going back to her food, the corner of her lips twitched up ever so slightly.
"kang sae-byeok."
"hm?"
"my name."
"oh." you muttered, nodding your head, trying to fight the excitement that burned in your chest at the sound of her name.
"kang sae-byeok." you repeated, testing her name on the tip of your tongue.
the sun began to set in the horizon, the air had grown colder, crisp enough that you unrolled the sleeves of your blouse, letting the last traces of warmth from the meal linger in your chest.
sae-byeok stood up first, letting cheol intertwine his fingers with hers.
"we should go. he has curfew." the short-haired girl mumbled, "thank you.. for the food."
you nodded, remembering how cheol talking about how he was staying at a children's home while sae-byeok worked.
sae-byeok bowed lowly first, cheol following shortly after.
"ah~ no need to thank me so formally, besides, you saved my ass back then." you shook your head, deep inside, you wished time would stretch just a little longer.
"thank you, noona! i hope we can play again." cheol gave a shy smile, waving his hands.
"see you, cheol." your voice softened at the sight of cheol, waving.
sae-byeok wrapped her arm around her little brother, before looking back for the last time, pausing.
"you should head home."
you huffed out a quiet laugh. “are you worried about me now?”
she didn’t answer immediately, just glanced at you, her expression unreadable beneath the market's glow. then, with a small shake of her head, she turned. “goodnight.”
it was just one, singular word. but it held weight, something unspoken hung in the air—an acknowledgment that the time spent between three strangers together mattered.
you watched as the pair merged in to the crowd of visitors.
you sighed softly before turning your heels towards the other direction, disappearing to the night yourself. the loneliness you had grown so used to didn’t feel quite as heavy tonight.
maybe you weren't as alone as you thought.

“When do you think you can be here, Carlos?”
His voice is tight on the other end of the line, knowing that you won’t like the answer. “An hour. Ninety minutes tops.”
You want to scream out and repeat his answer back to him so loudly that he can hear from the balcony of your shared apartment. It’ll let all of Monaco know how ridiculous he sounds. The flight attendant’s presence at the other end of the cabin helps you keep your composure. “And you’re sure that’s it? One hour?”
“Yes cariño, I promise.”
“Don’t call me that when I’m annoyed with you.”
“Can’t help it.” Carlos smiles cheekily, you can hear it in his voice. You can’t help but roll your eyes, feeling that he’s not taking you seriously. Postponing time spent together, sometimes venturing into canceling dates altogether, was becoming too frequent for your liking. But patience had to be your strong suit dating Carlos. “I’ll see you soon, okay?”
“Yeah. See you soon.” You end the call abruptly, leaving him to a last minute business meeting while you’re sitting here, awaiting your boyfriend on the private jet he has abandoned. Then again it would only be considered abandoned had he shown up on time to begin with.
He’d returned home from training yesterday exhausted as ever, yet reassured you with the promise that you two would spend a few days on a quiet getaway for your anniversary. Just the two of you, alone together. A trip you’d been planning for weeks now, with the need to make it an anniversary you’d always remember. If getting away was what it took to get Carlos to relax again, to be with you free of any distractions from work, you’d do that.
Carlos regards his career with a dedicated spirit, diligently organizing his schedule to make sure nothing falls between the cracks. His training, his sponsorships, his future at Williams… As badly as he feels to leave you waiting, duty calls. A last minute Zoom meeting with a new sponsor held him back at the apartment for longer than he anticipated. While most people have already resigned themselves to the fact that they can’t have it all, Carlos Sainz is not most people. He’ll either have everything, or die trying. It’s one of the many traits you love about him. Your heart aches at the thought of it being what tears you apart.
“Champagne?” The flight attendant offers you the drink, one of two that was meant for your celebratory toast with Carlos to kick off your anniversary trip.
“Thank you, it’s been a long day.” The flight attendant gives you a sympathetic smile, watching you down the drink with no effort. If this keeps up, it’ll be a long weekend too.
Once Carlos finally joins you on the plane, his ask for forgiveness is difficult to deny. He brought you a bouquet of flowers so large they took up their own seat on the plane, and he hadn’t stopped showering you with love since he arrived. Something about making up for lost time, he’d mumbled into your ear when you questioned his overwhelming affection. The colors of the flowers tied in beautifully with your outfit; Carlos was sure to capture it with a few photographs.
His attention to detail was another thing that you loved about him, it drew you in everytime. When you’re together like this, free of the outside noise, you wish it could last forever. Always on the other end of the phone or outside the airplane window is something ready to whisk him away. Ideally, an anniversary spent with him would consist of a lazy morning making breakfast together, simply basking in each other’s company.
His company was hard to enjoy when you were barely experiencing it, now sitting alone at your anniversary dinner hours later. Your mood turned sour when Carlos excused himself to take a call, walking away from the table before you had a chance to express your distaste. The tension that had been simmering between you two was bound to bubble over once again as Carlos returned to your table with a guilty look, phone to his ear as he ended his call with his cousin/manager.
You didn’t bother to look up, taking your anger out on your meal instead, poking and prodding the food with your silverware. It was a delicious meal that did nothing to deserve a brutal assault by fork and knife, ruining its picturesque presentation.
“Mi amor, I’m sorry.”
“Did you know that the more you say those words, the more they lose their significance each time?”
He sighs, running a stressed hand through his dark hair. “You know the kind of pressure that I’m under right now, cariño. How much this year has worn on me in general. Please, I just need you to be a little more-”
“Understanding? Yeah, I’ve been doing a lot of that lately.” You cut him off harshly, and the look you give him across the table is worth flinching from.
“You have. And I feel terrible, but it won’t last forever.” He attempts to soothe your worries, reaching for your hand. You don’t accept or deny his touch, you’re just still. It sends a shiver down his spine.
“You’re right, Carlos. It won’t last forever. You’ll make sure of it.”
“What do you mean by that? You think we’re going to break up?”
“I’m saying that if you don’t make time to nurture our relationship, there won’t be a relationship left! I’ve been here, Carlos. For you, for us, while juggling my own life and career, so don’t tell me it’s impossible. There was a time when you balanced it all before, when you weren’t working yourself to the bone because you decided you have something more to prove to the world.”
“I’m trying to balance everything, but it’s not always going to be smooth sailing. You know it’s not easy.”
“I know it’s not. I don’t need it to be, but I miss the days when you felt like our relationship was worth making time for. When I wasn’t the last of your priorities.”
“Maybe I miss the days when you understood that I’m not always going to be available for you 24/7.” Carlos rants, feeling defensive at how this time, the gloves are off, you’re finally letting Carlos feel the weight of the burden you’ve been carrying– loving enough for the two of you. Your pounding heart reminds you that it’s impossible to carry on like this. Something has to give. “Do you realize how much time I’m spending away from training to be with you? Is that not making time for our relationship?”
Tears prick your eyes in frustration, the air suddenly feeling warmer than before. Your nervous system begs you to get out of there, to leave the conversation before either of you say something you’ll regret. If it hasn’t been said already. “You still don’t get it, do you? I don’t even need any of this! I just want you! I remember the days when that wasn’t too much to ask for.”
Your hand has long dropped his, and Carlos’ eyes widen in panic as he watches you move out of your chair. “Amor, stay. Please, I didn’t mean it like that.”
Confliction moves through you like a strike of lightning, torn between staying to talk it through or taking a moment of space, after pouring out the feelings you’d spent so much time locking away. The last straw is when your waiter approaches your table, holding a small cake in his hands. On the top of it is a picture of you and Carlos together on your first anniversary, more content and in love than ever. A candle burns on the cake and wax melts down the sides, resembling the tears that wish to fall. Carlos’ eyes plead with guilt, begging you to stay and forget. Smile and pretend that right now, you’re still that happy couple printed on the cake.
Instead, you throw your napkin to your plate. “I need some air.”
Carlos watches you go, he doesn’t stop you. A timeout will do you both some good right now. He tries to tell himself that it’s not that bad. Couples fight. But he sits there, sullen, knowing that he’s fucked up this time. His heart burns as he stares at the picture of you two on the cake. It’s unbearable, and that little surprise he orchestrated now feels like a pointed joke at his expense. He blows out the candle and the light goes out. But closing his eyes won’t help his fear of the dark. Even he can’t run from this.
He finds you outside of the restaurant, sitting on a bench, staring down into the renewing waters of the fountain. It’s mesmerizing, the way you can drown in the sight and get lost in the calming sound. He slides his jacket off and wraps it around your shoulders.
“I’m sorry, mi amor. I didn’t mean to hurt your feelings, I just have a lot on my plate. But that’s no excuse to put our relationship on the backburner. I’m so, so sorry.” Carlos presses a chaste kiss to your temple, and feels comforted by how you subtly lean into his space. It’s a step. “I love you, and I’m going to listen to you. I want to make this better because there’s not a life for me without you in it. I need you, cariño. I want to be with you, always.”
“I’ve felt so disconnected from you lately and being here on our anniversary, reminded of all the happier times we’ve shared, I just… that scares me. I’m scared we won’t get back there if there’s any more distance between us.”
“I should’ve seen it sooner. The truth is, I am able to do what I do because you’re always there. You support me when things are up, when they’re down. When I lost my seat, when I got sick with appendicitis, when I won races… you’re there for it all. I took you for granted thinking that I could give everything I have to my career, when it’s you who deserves it.”
“You do give it everything, but I think you’ve lost sight of things a little bit. Usually you give me everything you have too, I mean the little cake with us on it… I love that you did that for me, Carlos. I’m only so upset because I love you too.”
Those words haven’t stopped echoing in his mind. He swears he’ll engrave them into his brain forever, as long as you’re happy. “Maybe I have been overcompensating a little bit, feeling pressure to make things perfect in my career. The year has been difficult, but I couldn’t have gotten through without you.”
You kiss his cheek, warming up to his affectionate words. He’s sincere, he truly means them. “You’re more than enough, Carlos. Just the way you are. Weathering the storm isn’t always easy but there’s nobody else I’d rather be with either.”
“Can we start over?”
“I’d love nothing more.”
“I have an idea. Should I throw my phone into the fountain, cariño? You’ll have my undivided attention for days.”
“Tempting, but no. Keep your phone dry, my love. Would you be opposed to going back to the villa? Enjoying the rest of the night in?”
Carlos wiggles his brows, as he recognizes that familiar glint in your eyes. One that shimmers with hope and longing. “We do have a pretty sweet cake being boxed up as we speak.”
“Maybe we can light the candle again? I promise I won’t leave the room this time.” Your hearts soar at the thought of blowing out your candle together, hands held as you make a new promise to each other. The past years together have been bliss and the rainbows have always shined through the cloudy skies. The next years together, you will wish for the same and even more.
“Anything for you, cariño. Happy Anniversary.” He presses a kiss to your cheek, leaving you with no choice but to cup his jaw and bring your lips to his. The cool breeze outside is no match for either of you– you’ve got your love to keep you warm.
“Happy Anniversary, Carlos.”

NEW MALE YANDERE GAME ALERT 🚨 ‼️ 🔔
You guys should try applying if ever, if you want to beta test and help in the game development.
Don’t pressure yourself, just answer what feels natural to you and enjoy the process. Whether you get picked or not, it never hurts to try.
The creator worked hard on this, so go and support them. And besides, you’ll have fun too.
I mean c’mon it’s male yandere + horror content. What more could you want?
If you do have wants, then as a beta tester, you would be able to share your inputs and thoughts to further improve the game more. It’s about mutual exchange and cooperation.
Either way, just remember to have fun :)) and special thanks to the Creator of this game. Your hard work is appreciated. Literally food for the community.
❤️Online Obsession Beta Test: DEMO
Tumblr media
Hey there, after much thought I decided to release a demo for Online Obsession, letting everyone have a taste of the game before the official release. However, the existing beta testers pool is too small for the amount of content being added to the game, which is why I'm announcing the new wave of beta test applications.
As a beta tester you:
Will be joining a group of around 25 already existing beta testers
Will get to playtest the Demo build and builds published after it
Will get free game keys for Steam and Itch upon the game's official release
Will have your name in credits of the game as a beta tester
The application process will last for around three days, after which you can still apply in the back-up pool for a few days. I will be accepting a very limited group of beta testers but everyone has a chance, so feel free to apply!
❤️ Reblogs are very much appreciated!

Hey Siffrin. Do you happen to know what a cat is? If not, try and ask Loop this when they start flirting with you. Should get under their skin.
Oh. And for future reference, just drop lore about your world on Loop whenever they act uppity so as to shut them up.

Seventeen - Their S/O feeling sad because they overwork and spend less time with them
S.Coups
You barely get the words out before he’s already pulling you into a tight hug. His grip is warm and steady, almost like he’s afraid you’ll slip away if he lets go. "I’m so sorry," he whispers, his voice thick with guilt. "I didn’t realize how much I’ve been missing with you." He pulls back and cups your face, his eyes searching yours. "From now on, no more late-night meetings without a call. And this weekend? It’s just us." He kisses your forehead softly. "You’re my priority."
Tumblr media
Jeonghan
He notices the sadness in your voice even before you finish speaking, his playful smile fading. "Oh no, I’ve messed up, haven’t I?" Jeonghan sighs, tugging you down onto the couch beside him. His fingers intertwine with yours as he leans his head on your shoulder. "I’m sorry, love. I got caught up with everything... but nothing’s more important than you." A sly grin tugs at the corner of his mouth. "How about we ditch everything and have a lazy day tomorrow? Just us, blankets, and snacks."
Tumblr media
Joshua
Joshua listens carefully, his face calm but his eyes full of concern. When you finish, he gently takes your hand and gives it a squeeze. "I’m really sorry you felt this way," he says softly. "I’ve been so focused on work that I forgot to focus on us." He pauses, a small smile forming. "How about a date night? Like, a proper one. Dinner, music, and then a walk under the stars?" His voice is full of warmth. "We’ll make it a weekly thing, I promise."
Tumblr media
Jun
Jun’s eyes widen as you tell him how you’ve been feeling. "Why didn’t you tell me sooner?" he says, his voice full of concern. Without waiting for an answer, he grabs your hand and pulls you into a spontaneous hug. "We’re fixing this right now." The next thing you know, he’s planning a whole day of fun—roller skating, ice cream, and watching silly movies until you’re both laughing too hard to breathe.
Tumblr media
Hoshi
The moment he realizes you’ve been sad, Hoshi’s face falls. "Wait, wait, you’ve been feeling like that because of me?" He practically throws his phone on the table and rushes to sit beside you. "I’m such a fool," he mutters, hugging you tightly. "I don’t care how busy things get. I’ll always make time for you." His next plan? A surprise adventure date filled with random dancing, stuffed animals, and your favorite food.
Tumblr media
Wonwoo
Wonwoo doesn’t say much at first, but you can tell he’s taking every word to heart. He nods slowly, his brow furrowing as he processes everything. "I didn’t mean to make you feel that way," he says quietly. "Thank you for telling me." Later that evening, he invites you to a calm, quiet bookstore date and insists on buying you whatever catches your eye.
Tumblr media
Woozi
Woozi’s eyes flicker with surprise, and then... guilt. "I’ve really been that absent?" he asks, almost to himself. He runs a hand through his hair and sighs. "I’ve been so focused on music… but you’re the song I should never forget." He takes your hand. "I’ll do better." True to his word, you find yourself spending more time in his studio—together, side by side—and he even writes a sweet little tune just for you.
Tumblr media
DK (Seokmin)
His eyes immediately fill with worry. "Wait, really? Oh no, I’ve been a terrible boyfriend!" He wraps you in the biggest hug, his warmth practically melting your sadness. "I’ll make it up to you, I swear!" He’s already grabbing his phone to plan a full day of fun—picnics, karaoke, and the cheesiest rom-com marathon you’ve ever seen. All while sneaking kisses and making sure you never stop smiling.
Tumblr media
Mingyu
Mingyu looks heartbroken as you speak, his face falling with each word. "I’ve really hurt you without meaning to," he says, his voice low. "I hate that." He stands up and heads to the kitchen, returning with your favorite comfort food. "Eat first. Then, we’ll talk about how to fix this." He sits beside you, his hand never leaving yours. "We’re a team, okay? I’ll do better."
Tumblr media
The8 (Minghao)
Minghao listens carefully, his expression thoughtful. He doesn’t interrupt once. "Thank you for telling me how you feel," he says calmly. "I didn’t realize how distant I’d been." He takes your hand and looks you in the eyes. "Let’s take a break together. A little escape. Just us." A couple of days later, you’re strolling through an art gallery, his fingers brushing yours every so often, a peaceful silence settling between you.
Tumblr media
Seungkwan
"Oh no, no, no," Seungkwan says, his eyes already shining with tears. "You’ve been sad because of me?" He pulls you into a warm hug, patting your back soothingly. "I’m so sorry! That’s not okay. I’ll make it up to you." True to his word, the next day, you wake up to flowers, your favorite snacks, and a whole day of pampering. He won’t stop reminding you how much he loves you.
Tumblr media
Vernon
Vernon’s quiet for a moment, thinking carefully before he speaks. "I’m really sorry you felt that way," he says softly. "I didn’t mean for work to take over." He gives you a shy smile and pulls you into a gentle hug. "Let’s set some time aside every week for just us, yeah? Like a standing date?" He’s already making a mental note to stick to it.
Tumblr media
Dino
Dino’s eyes widen in shock. "You’ve been feeling like that? Why didn’t you tell me earlier?" He grabs both your hands and squeezes them tightly. "I’m so sorry. I’ll do better, I promise." He grins suddenly. "Let’s go out right now. Anywhere you want." Before you know it, you’re singing your hearts out at karaoke, laughing so hard it hurts, and feeling like the most important person in the world again.

Insomnia - Lighter x gn!Reader
Summary -> 888 words on the DOT. Lighter helps you fall asleep Warnings -> None. Self indulgent tho. I am so tired and in desperate need for some warm cuddles right now
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You shift underneath the scratchy knitted blanket, roll on the mattress pad that was too thin, move the pillow that was somehow too warm even when you flipped it over, trying so hard to fall asleep, but nothing was working. This wasn’t your cushy New Eridu apartment, this was a guest… shack… in Blazewood. You were thankful you were able to spend the night after losing track of time taste testing Nitro Fuel with Burnice. The problem? You taste tested Nitro Fuel with Burnice. It was 3 in the morning, the sun long set, and the chill across the desert settled in comfortably, and your chest hurt.
You can’t take it anymore, rolling out of the bed and stepping out into cold air. A nice little walk to calm your racing heart and jittery body. You didn’t realize you were just pacing in circles until you felt a hand on your shoulder.
“You alright?” The low voice asked from behind you, barely above the breeze in the night.
You practically jumped out of your skin, whipping around to see the large man who had somehow snuck up on you. “Oh! Lighter, don’t scare me like that.” You punched his shoulder playfully and he dramatically rubbed it, acting like you hurt him.
“I am wearing a leather jacket that creaks when I walk. If I snuck up on you, that’s your fault.” He flicks your forehead, his eyes hidden behind the thick sunglasses even if it was the middle of the night.
You roll your eyes and look up to the sky for a brief moment before looking back. “I was distracted. And before you give me the whole ‘you can’t let your guard down in the outer ring’ bullshit, I know. I’m just…”
“Antsy.” He responds, arms holding your shoulders as he watches how your body jitters and shakes. “Burnice get you?” “Yea- Hey wait! Is that why you ran off today!?”
“No comment.” He smirks wider as you huff and pout. “Thanks for taking the fall.” He holds out his hand for a fist bump, which you begrudgingly return.
“You owe me. Because my chest hurts and I can’t sleep.” You grumble, missing the look of empathy that washed over his face.
“Back when I was a merc, I learned how to fall asleep anywhere fast. I can give you some advice?”
You try not to smile at the offer. Honestly with how he looks, you often forget how sweet of a man he really was. “That would be really nice, yeah.”
He places his hand on your back between your shoulders and guides you back into the guest house you were staying in. “Get in bed. That’s always the first step.”
“You’re so funny, ya know?” You scoff and lay down, getting under the blanket, the fibers scratching your skin.
“I know. Now take a few deep breaths, but don’t move any other part of your body.” He got up and started turning off the lights around you as you breathe. “Just try not to move too much, you want your body to relax, and tossing and turning will make you even more awake.” His voice drops, like he was trying to soothe you to sleep.
“My heart feels like it’s going to explode. This isn’t helping, Lighter.” You sigh, defeated.
“What normally helps you sleep?”
You think for a moment, only coming up with an embarrassing answer. “Well… With my last partner, whenever they’d cuddle me it always helped me fall asleep faster.”
The silence was deafening, your heart now racing from the awkwardness of the situation, you didn’t even hear the sound of a zipper, buckles, and of leather moving.
“I know that’s weird but I-” Your words cut off when you felt the mattress dip, a wall of warmth cupping against your back, a strong arm keeping the scratchy blanket off of your skin. “Lighter?”
“I’ve had Burnice, Lucy, and Ceaser hanging off of me for fun for too damn long now. This is nothing.” He said almost proudly. “I’ve got you. You can sleep now.” His voice was softer than you had ever heard it as he moved to place his sunglasses on the nightstand.
“You’re a lot more soft than I expected.” You roll over in his grip to face him, seeing him in that black, torn up t shirt he wore under his leather jacket, his eyes unblocked for once. “Like… in the emotional sense, not in the… muscles way.” You cough awkwardly and he chuckles.
“Call me overprotective.” He responded and pulled your head to his chest, holding you close.
“I’m not even part of the Sons of Calydon.”
“Eh. Honorary member.”
“...Can I borrow Red Moccus-”
“No.”
It didn’t take long for you to fall asleep with his hand tracing your spine through your sleep shirt. He was warm, sturdy, and a wonderful rock in the sea of insomnia. Your sleep was the most restful you had gotten in a long time, your dreams peaceful, your sleep uninterrupted. All thanks to Lighter…
**********
…Well… Until the next morning. You were woken up by what you thought must have been an earthquake, or a train somehow passing by with the way the walls practically shook, only to realize it was a loud snoring coming from the chest beneath your head.

Ask Masterpost #5 -- 2/8/2025
Summary:
Permissibility of Friday Night Funkin' Mods (Allowed) with update about Rhythm Heaven songs
Permissibility of Lego Batman/Lego series games (Allowed if original compositions or remixes)
Permissibility of fansongs that eventually end up inside the game (Highly situational; Leaning towards not allowed)
Permissibility of licensed music from external/unaffiliated sources (Not allowed)
April Fools plans
Note about attribution corrections
Permissibility of scrapped songs (Not allowed)
Permissibility of songs officially posted by developers before game release (Allowed)
----------
no rush on answering this bc i know requests wont be open for a hot minute, but i have a question if u dont mind!
are songs from friday night funkin mods allowed? and if so, would it be the same as rhythm heaven songs, where you said just an instrumental should be submitted since the "vocals" are pretty distinct? thank u!! :]
Yes, they're allowed as long as you can credit the original creators and the mod is/was publicly playable in some capacity, not just existing as a youtube video. It's okay to have the vocals as well if you'd like! I think I misunderstood the rhythm heaven case (I thought it would be the menu music that plays after you complete the song/level, not the sfx that plays DURING the song) and will clarify that accordingly.
----------
What's the verdict on songs from games like Lego Batman? Where the music is at least partially based on (if not entirely the same as) music from films or television?
Totally fine if they're created or remixed for the video game, but I'm going to say no if they weren't originally made for the video game.
----------
@cloudyskies4 asked: if a song is fanmade but ended up getting used officially in a kinda fanmade modernization how would the source for that be handled?
I think this is HIGHLY situational and I would probably need to know the exact song this is referring to. Overall, I'm inclined to say no, because it wasn't an original composition for the game (by the team behind the game, that is).
----------
is music that was licensed for use in video games allowed? like if some rock song from the 80s was used in a game that came out in 2010. pretty sure it's a no on that front, but i wanted to double check. thank you!
No, because it wasn't composed for the game itself. Appreciate you double checking though! (I'm assuming this is referring to songs that are unchanged when included in the video game and not 'xyz franchise song remixed for xyz franchise video game' sort of thing)
----------
hi! i absolutely love this blog. and i appreciate the organizational work you're putting in! so thanks for not only running this blog but also introducing so many people to some damn good music.
since these are never official tracks, one event i think you could do for like, april fool's day or something is maybe using silvagunner rips under the same format. i think it'd be pretty fun!
I probably won't do anything for april fools simply because I don't really care for it :'). Thank you for enjoying the blog so much!!!
----------
[Any ask that's correcting me on an incorrect credit for a song]
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THESE. SERIOUSLY. If you put them in the notes it might be a hit or miss if I see them but if you send me an ask I WILL SEE IT and I WILL CORRECT IT IMMEDIATELY. Proper attribution is important to me and I appreciate everyone who helps me stick to that! This isn't an ask, but I wanted to address it anyways.
----------
might be a silly question but are scrapped video game songs allowed? i know submissions are closed, im just asking so that i dont send something thats not allowed when submissions open :]
I'm going to say no, just because they were scrapped and therefore not intended for the final product :'). No such thing as a silly question!
----------
If the game hasn't been released yet, but a song from the game *has* been officially posted by the devs beforehand, is that okay to submit? I figured it's a yes but I just wanted to be extra sure for when Jan 1st submissions roll around :)
If the song has been officially posted by the devs (and is the full song, not the BGM for a trailer) and you can credit the composer than absolutely!! (assuming the song is going to be in the game, of course). And I'm sorry there were no submissions on Jan 1st... I'm still trying to clear through the ones we have already :')

And Four poor guy, idk where I saw that headcanon but thanks, now he's scared of throwing up :***, like, he could take any hit or have a really ugly wound but don't even mention that thing in front of him. I can see it XD.
Thank you so much for the ask (double ask :·3¿) it was really fun doing both doodles and I hope you like them hehehe!!!!💖💖🥹
