i want to make one of those tumblr communities for only the most unreadable books. no rf kuang. no sjm. no ali hazelwoods or magnolia parks or john grisham or percy jackson. i want recommendations of the books only you and four other freaks have reviewed and with an average rating of 3.27
#personal#saw a book club community and hated all the books recommended in the first ten posts#where are the freaks. where are the ones who will recommend me an out of print poetry collection you can only find on the internet archive#not that i hate all the things mentioned above btw those are just like. the things that cropped up more than once

helo artists and anatomy students. need to study anatomy??? wanna see actual real muscles on an actual real body and how they move? there's a video atlas for that which is recommended by my professor and what i personally use to study.
and it's available for free instantly on the internet archive, no borrowing or login or anything
#unfort the timestamps on the official site i use through uni access is different so you're just gonna have to skip around#but there's broader timestamps on that internet archive by upper/lower extremities; head/neck; trunk; and internal organs#its a lot more helpful to me than flat illustrations tbh#if you want a paid app of 3d models that all my classmates are using: complete anatomy by elsevier. it gives a lot of more control#but tbh i just watch the videos#redstrewn talks#not touchstarved

Callback to when I was in school and the internet there was just really, really bad
(shout out to all the schools out there who attempted to block out all internet and cell service in the halls in an attempt to keep students off their damn phones, but only succeeded in tossing out a very very large and messy net of dead zones across the entire building)
And so every single day on the bus going to school I would be frantically "select all"-ing copy pasting fics off of ff.net, chapter by painful chapter bc there was no "show all chapter" button to use, into my Google docs so I could read them in school without fear of the page reloading and my precious stories being lost
#extra loud shout out to my girlies who memorized all the little corners in school that still had internet#my favorite was this one very specific corner right outside the choir room#but the “spot” was actually more directly IN the wall than out of it#so you just had to lean in reeeallly close#and also hope and pray#i ended up having to skip class once bc I was having a really serious talk w one of my struggling friends online#and knew the class had no internet#so I was like#yeah ok fuck it#time for the choir hall corner#i got caught tho but the choir teacher covered for me#thank u choir teacher#im p sure I still have one or three of those docs buried somewhere#eventually I learned u can just straight up download fics tho thats what I do now#that and like. yk. keeping the page open.#birds rambles#fanfiction#ao3#fanfic#fanfic.net#archive of our own

new gender loading...
pasdreamian!
(pronounced pause-dream-ian)
pasdreamian is defined as a gender that was felt or identified with in a dream and now is part or all of the user's gender!
i.e. you had a dream wherein you identified as pupgender and now you identify as pasdreamian because that experience is still a part of your gender! (hope that makes sense lol)

After LITERALLY 30 years, I have found a movie I recorded off USA's UP All Night, but the tape ran out, so I have NEVER seen the last fifteen minutes or so.
It is a dumb DUMB movie, but having that missing ending has bugged the SHIT out of me for literal decades. This was an obscure, nothing of a movie, that probably aired this one time, has never been on anything other than VHS, not even on streaming...look, if you know me, you know if *I* couldn't find it...

I’ve seen people freaking out that the Internet Archive’s various sites (archive.org, wayback machine, etc) will cease to exist following the recent court ruling.
I’m a librarian and I have been following this case and while I’m incredibly disheartened and concerned by the ruling, I’m here to assure you that archive.org will continue to exist as a website. And the Internet Archive will continue to exist as an organization.
The court ruling only applies to some of the material hosted on archive.org and open library. Namely, books that are still under copyright. A ton of what is currently hosted on these sites is no longer protected by copyright. And anything that is no longer protected by copyright under US law (IA is based in the US) can be legally reproduced as much as they want. None of that content will be affected.
So yes, absolutely download and backup the things that are personally important to you if you’re concerned about losing access to those. But don’t panic that the whole site is going to shut down. That’s simply not going to happen, and it doesn’t help the situation.
The Internet Archive has already announced that they’re going to appeal to decision. We’re still fighting this! And you can help! Donate money to cover court costs (IA is a non-profit), tell your representatives to support legislation that supports libraries, and sign the petition at BattleForLibraries.com.
#internet archive#archive.org#open library#wayback machine#also did you know ebooks often cost more than physical books for libraries?#that's a rant for another day

Idk why every time I have a project that involves using the Register of the Great Seal for something even slightly more complex than looking up a single isolated charter, I always have a lovely plan where I think it will only take me a couple of hours to go in, check the index, and take the numbers I need down. And then I end up having to skimread the whole damn volume.
#No I know why#It's because the index is fucked up that's why#All due respect to those Victorian and Edwardian lads who went to the tremendous trouble of compiling all these sources#But this particular method of indexing leaves a lot to be desired#Does NOT have everything I need in it#And by the time you realise that some lands might pop up where least expected you start to convince yourself it would be safer#Just to read the whole thing#It's 800 pages long#I have been at this since 4 and I'm not even an eighth of the way through#Would be much quicker if I had the physical volume but it's a very old rare book so the library have it under strict control#Fortunately of course it HAS been digitised which is fantastic#Lots of sources for mediaeval Scottish history that were compiled into printed editions in the nineteenth century have been digitised#They are very easy to get ahold of and in my biased opinion it is easier to do online primary source research for Scotland than England#But 800 pages staring at a screen (which is NOT a format I can easily retain information from even if it didn't make my eyes hurt)#Having to physically scroll down the page rather than just flip a page#Is just not ideal#And this is the only volume in the series which is on Hathi rather than Internet Archive and personally I find indexes more difficult to us#On Hathi than internet archive#Anyway#That's how you end up making the bad decision to work your way through an 800 page volume and make yourself go blind#Just to find some charters#But I've already sunk several hours into this so can't give up now! I always vastly underestimate the amount of time it takes too#Also a certain degree of Ill as well. Like I feel I have to Suffer For My Craft-suffering being back problems and 19th century antiquarians#Alright this is officially the most boring rant I have ever had

So hows it going 😀
TMAGP 7 is a WILD ride
#First we're already starting off with the end of tmagp 6 with Celia Ripley being the new hire#(And having the same voice actress as a extremely side tma character who started calling herself Celia post-change)#Then you get fucking hit with#“I mean it's an old system but it could have been worse. It's not like we're wrestling with tape recorders and manila folders.”#AND CELIA ASKING IF THERE'S A WAY TO SEARCH FOR SPECIFIC THINGS. LIKE BEING BURIED ALIVE OR MEAT.#I.E. THE BURIED AND THE FLESH#I'm much more inclined to believe that the Celia's memories are seeping into each other than bit characters full on universe hopping#(Oh yeah The Magnus Protocol is set in a world that's parallel to The Magnus Archives; not technically a direct sequel)#[But like they are chronologically. I think.]#Anyway CELIA KNOWS WHAT THE FUCK IS UP#And you'd think things might calm down with today's incident report; it's just Chester (“ai”/“automated voice” also voiced by Jonathan Sims#[who voices character Jonathan Sims. Creative genius we know.]#with another internet-based statement#(HE'S TRAPPED IN THE FUCKING WEB)#Except know it's about a charity shop ON HILLTOP ROAD#For context: EVERY ELDRITCH ENTITY AND THEIR MOTHER FUCK AROUND WITH HILLTOP ROAD#PRIMARILY THE AFOREMENTIONED WEB#WHICH HARBORED THE MESSIAH OF THE CULT OF THE LIGHTLESS FLAME#AND THE CHARITY SHOP *BURNED DOWN* BY THE END OF THE INCIDENT REPORT#We then cut to the other new hire Sam going to talk to Colin the IT guy#Colin's definitely going to be the first to die he's in DEEP in trying to understand the mess of of system that is the OIAR#And he's been adamant against Alice giving the computers any sense of a personality#And what does Sam go to ask Colin? WHO JON IS#BECUASE HE GOT A NONSENSICAL EMAIL FROM A RANDOM USER WHO CALLED HIMSELF JON BUT IT LOOKED LIKE IT WAS AN INTERNAL EMAIL#Obviously Colin's to steeped in paranoia to react well to anything; but what is he hung up on?#That Sam brought his phone into the IT room; and that “it” has probably recorded too much already *!!!!!!!*#Oh and also their boss was like contracted to kill a guy but she failed and Gwen is using a video of it to blackmail her#tmagp spoilers

Was considering buying (ridiculously overpriced) Sunny blu-rays to (very, very legally) rip them (for Personal Use archival purposes), decided to test on a blu-ray I already own, realized my external drive only reads DVDs, successfully ripped a DVD, but then was sent down a rabbit hole trying to see if I could use my (again, very, very legally) hacked PS3 to rip the .iso (I can) since it is indeed a blu-ray player with an attached PC-adjacent machine...
Long story short. If you see me spending $70 on seasons 1-5 on DVD and 6 on blu-ray, no you didn't, but also expect a 1080p season 6 bloopers upload in the near future.
definitely not from me, though. no way. i would never do that. i'm not a pirate. i'm just a good ole upstanding wiki admin.
#i need season 8 so bad but the price of it on bluray is ATROCIOUS#THESE MFERS ARE ASKING FOR EIGHTY WHOLE DOLLARS. FOR ONE BLURAY. and i'm NOT about to get fucked over with a bootleg so options are limited#i mmmmight hold off on the earlier season dvds because i think i might actually have some luck finding them in local stores#but who the FUCK has season 8 on bluray. im convinced there are only like 5 legit copies out there.#afaik a good chunk of the season 1-4 extras are out there already but the interlacing on them is disgusting#so if i can. i'm going to attempt to deinterlace them properly and then stick em on the internet archive#ada speaks#actually i should probably... see if anyone is interested in donating to help cover this lol#the episodes are out there and there arent any official blurays after season 8 (so like why even bother with 9 to 11's subpar 720p DVDs)#but 6-8 extras are all shit quality if theyre even available online at all#youtube doesnt cut it for me either#YEAH Y'ALL REMEMBER MACDEN BREAK UP BEAUTIFUL LIPS SCENE. ITS GONE. NOWHERE TO BE FOUND OTHER THAN TUMBLR.#and i. will change that singlehandedly if its the last thing i do#also like i need the cereal defense scene in hq i literally attempted to upscale the shitty youtube copy i was desperate#this is for me. the fact that im able to download every fucking dvd extra for THE X FILES. a series as old as me. but not for sunny.#FX why do you hate sunny so bad. go on. rerelease these dvds. release a fucking season 15 blu ray. bitch.#its so horrific that season 10 only has a gag reel and 11 has NOTHING included on the disc for bonuses#season 6 has a wholeass trivia game#what happened#its not even like the bonus feature stuff doesnt exist its just on youtube#and MOST of the shit is privated. because FX sucks.#low quality compressed youtube videos that ppl have downloaded and reuploaded and crunched to shit all over again#at least some of them are archived. but. fuck

hi catie ❤️
I’m sure you’ve answered this before but where do you watch the older races?
thank you and thank you for your lovely gifs im still emotional about Germany 2009
Hallo :D
I watch older races on F1TV! But you can also watch races on websites like overtakefans. I usually just watch races on F1TV, just to make sure the footage is good quality y'know, but overtakefans sometimes has the pre-race show included as well(which I'm so in love with bcs you learn so much history and context), so I always check for that as well whenever I watch races. I think I mentioned this before but I accidentally have 2 F1 accounts(I was very stupid with subscriptions), and the secondary one is just the archived races and not the live stuff, so if any mutuals would like to watch older races, pls hmu :DD
I am also still very emotional about Germany 2009, I was like actually crying over it last night LOL. That was such a good post-race as well, so many good Mark clips!! Also a very interesting race as well, it was very technical and strategy based. I think 2009 is a very interesting season strategy-wise, you just have a lot to consider(i.e. all the different tires, fuel strategy, KERS, etc)
#f1tv is very good!!#but tbh it bothers me bcs i know they have quali and fp footage *somewhere*#like no way they dont have that footage when theres literally archives of it elsewhere on the internet#and i think they should add those as well to the archive#basically anything before 2018 you have to go on a wild goose chase to find anything other than the race#but otherwise very good!#they have the archived stuff but also documentaries and stuff#thats where i watch the current season as well bcs its very nice easy access to a lot of content#catie.asks.

this is your monthly reminder that hacking your 3ds and downloading old games is totally radical and people should do it more often
#i've always wanted to play hamtaro ham-ham heartbreak#but i'm not spending $100 on a game cartridge that might not even work to play in a handheld console that definitely doesnt work#i want to replay detective pikachu before the sequel comes out but UH OH! I can't remember where my copy is?!#that's okay because the beautiful archives of the internet can give me the file and i can put it in my 3ds and go!#it's dead easy too way easier than hacking your switch tbh#and since they've shut down the servers you dont have to worry about bricking! i think at least...#anyway...go hack your 3ds. do it. download whatever games you want.
