i think what bothers me most about the anti-testing sentiment in norwegian breed communities is that testing doesn’t mean exclusion, even when results aren’t perfect
if we had widespread HD screening we could breed by index, which is made to rely on overall probability and average breed quality rather than individual scores on individual dogs
genetic CEA testing will literally let you breed an affected dog with minimal health risk to the offspring (they’ll be confirmed carriers, and that can be worked with). the same with MDR1.
every time this topic gets brought up, people start howling about the effects of exclusion on the gene pool and more ‘important factors’ like the strength of the rear or length of the back and how pressure from buyers to breed only perfect dogs will force breeders to drop stock that’s otherwise valuable and I’m?
you’re the breeders. when prospective puppy buyers need information, they come to you. and «one parent has poorer hips but comes from a line of good scores and paired with a good partner, the puppies have a higher than average chance of having healthy hips» sounds like a far more trustworthy answer than «we don’t need to know because even if it does have bad joints it’ll probably be okay for at least a few years.»
you’d think we test our dogs to death by the way many breeders in this country cry about it, but the fact is that many shelties - especially females - have one (1) eye screening at 8 weeks and call it a day. in Japanese spitzes, it’s a single squeeze around the knees and that’s it, the dog is healthy and good to go.
i’m tired.
#the oldest rant#but i mean it: i would rather take a HD A x HD C pairing with good documentation and a high index#than a HD A x HD B pairing with nothing to go on#we know HD is too complicated to go by singular scores#we know CEA and MDR1 are fairly easy to keep in check -if we know theyre there-#BONUS: a sheltie now costs about a months salary#thats standard price#regardless of titles or shows or testing#breeders literally entering their dogs in 2 shows each and checking eyes one time and breeds 4 litters#i hear u sayin u dont breed for profit but ppl out there doing three times the work for the same pay my man

Part one Part two Part three Part four Part five Part six Part seven Part eight Part nine Part ten (M) Part eleven Part twelve Part fourteen (M)
Simply put, you’re restless. No matter how hard you try to distract yourself, it just doesn’t seem to work. There’s always a part of you that circles back to what you’re trying to forget. It’s annoying – it’s infuriating – that even your own mind won’t let you catch break. But then again, it’s hard to forget someone who doesn’t let you do it. You aren’t sure what you exactly expected to happen after the lawsuit ended, but you sure as hell didn’t expect Yoongi to become a minor celebrity overnight.
You didn’t realize until after the trial just how much social media had been all over the cases that had been reported on, and since Mr. Park’s was the first one to go to court, the focus on it had been intense. While you used to spend your fair share of time online before, you just couldn’t find the time after you brought Yoongi home. You didn’t really have a need for it either, not when spending time with Yoongi sounded much more tempting than mindlessly scrolling down a page for hours.
But apparently, Yoongi had become a hot topic after he both testified against his mother’s murderer, and got his ownership nullified in just the span of a few hours. Ownership nullification is rare in itself, so combining those two together in one case was bound to become the talk of the town. Or more precisely - the whole country.
Mr. Yang had kindly told you to go home after the trial ended; that waiting for Yoongi at the courthouse would take too long. You had protested of course, saying that you didn’t mind it, but Mr. Yang seemed adamant that it would be the best thing to do. And so, reluctantly, you had gone home. You knew Yoongi was in capable hands, that your co-worker would help him sort through all the documents he needed to deal with and that he would bring him back home afterwards. Except .. that never happened.
You were practically hovering by your phone all day after you returned home just to make sure you knew when Yoongi would be coming home. It wasn’t until late in the evening that Mr. Yang had called you to say that the process was a little more complicated than they had first thought, and that Yoongi would need to get a lawyer of his own to make sure the nullification process went smoothly. And so, since it would take a few days and Mr. Yang’s organization had volunteered to help out, Yoongi would be staying with him until everything was finalized. You could tell it wasn’t up for debate when Mr. Yang told you – it was obvious that it was Yoongi’s decision.
So you agreed – of course. But it didn’t make it any easier. You had been desperately hoping that you could finally talk with Yoongi now that the trial was over, but for each day that passed, it just made you more and more anxious. Maybe Yoongi doesn’t want to see you again, maybe that’s why he’s not coming home, seemed to play on a loop inside your head. You had brushed it off at first, but the thought began to take up more space the longer the distance between you two went on.
Mr. Yang did keep you updated on the progress though, and you’re not ashamed to admit that you started tearing up the moment you got the message that told you that Yoongi was officially ownerless again. Even if he wasn’t a free hybrid just yet, it was a step in the right direction.
But, Yoongi still didn’t return home. It was after the nullification was official that he was contacted for interviews, and as Mr. Yang had told you, “This is an important step for people to understand that hybrids aren’t just their personal playthings. Seeing Yoongi represent himself on TV will be a huge step in the right direction.”
And it was. Because one interview turned into five, and those five turned into ten. And maybe you’ve watched every single one of them, and maybe your heart ached a little more every time you saw Yoongi’s face on the screen in front of you – so familiar, yet suddenly so untouchable. You had a small epiphany during the third interview you watched. There had been something you couldn’t put your finger on, but the realization came once the interviewer said something that made Yoongi’s gummy smile appear; something you only had seen a handful of times yourself.
Yoongi was happy.
He carried himself better, the slouch in his shoulders almost gone. The fur on his tail was shinier, and there was a sparkle in his eyes that had threatened to knock the breath out of your chest whenever he turned to look at the camera. You hadn’t seen Yoongi in a week, and he already looked so much lighter, better. You could tell a weight had been lifted off his shoulders. You were so happy for him. So, so happy. But as you laid awake at night, you couldn’t help but wonder .. what if you one of the things that had been weighing him down?
You collapse onto the couch with a groan, letting your eyes fall shut for just a moment as you take in the silence in your apartment. The quietness was something you used to look forward to after a long day of work, a small break from the hustle and bustle of working in an open landscape office. But now, the silence almost feels eerily quiet. Like all the noise has just been sucked out and you’re left with nothing.
You reach out a hand to search for the blanket you know you’ve thrown somewhere over the backrest, a pleased sound leaving your lips as your fingertips wrap around the soft material. You waste no time it wrapping yourself up, the extra warmth more than welcome in your chilly apartment. You snuggle down further into your hoodie, breathing in the calming scent of your detergent. You can pretend all you want that it’s just the scent of vanilla and flowers that relaxes you, but you know deep down that it’s more than that. It’s Yoongi’s hoodie. Well, technically it is yours, but he more or less stole it away from you, and it’s not like you minded it too much. It looked better on him anyway. Yoongi packed up most of his clothes when he left to stay with Mr. Yang, and maybe it’s silly – a little sad – but it makes you feel close to him. His scent is long gone, washed away weeks ago, but it still reminds you so much off him that it doesn’t matter. It’s still comforting.
You pick up the nearby remote; turning on the TV to make sure you won’t miss anything of Yoongi’s latest interview. The program begins at six, so you’re left to mindlessly watch the abundance of commercials that plays out before it starts. Your eyes snap to attention as the intro for the program begins, your feet tapping nervously against the side rest of the couch as the host appears.
You can’t help but feel anxious for Yoongi, always a little scared that he’ll get put in a situation that will make him uncomfortable. But the cat hybrid didn’t even bat an eye at the questions that made you scoff or feel annoyed, the small smile on face never leaving his lips despite the interviewers being too invasive. So, maybe you’re worried for nothing – but you still can’t help it.
You suck in a small breath as the camera finally pans to Yoongi, the remote clutched tightly to your chest. His dark tail glistens under the studio lights, and his pale complexion has a healthy glow to it, cheeks faintly flushed with pink. He grins at the host as she introduces him, the dark green turtleneck bringing out the golden hue in his eyes. The host doesn’t exactly ask any groundbreaking questions, most of them you’ve already heard before in the other interviews Yoongi has done. There’s always a lot of ‘How do you feel?’ and ‘What will you do moving forward?’ and perhaps the best one yet, ‘What’s your grooming routine?’
They’re mostly shallow questions, and you have a feeling that the networks are more interested in having a hybrid on their show to spruce up their ratings, rather than actually advocate for any hybrid rights. But if it can at least make one more person understand that hybrid’s are as human as the rest of the population, then you suppose it’s worth it. You have a feeling that’s why Yoongi is keeping up with it too.
The next question the host asks is cut off as the screen starts stuttering, the image flickering on and off. You sit up on the couch, impatiently tapping your remote against your hand to see if that will somehow fix it. You try to switch back and fourth between channels, the screen finally going back to normal.
This isn’t the first time your TV is working against you, the thick screen severely out-dated and barely hanging on after years of use. But you refuse to switch it out until you absolutely have to – one because you’re not one for throwing away things while they still work, and two, you don’t have the money for it. You settle back against the couch as the host lets out an airy giggle, the sound making your stomach twist uncomfortably. You watch as she shifts forward in her seat, her dainty fingers touching Yoongi’s arm.
“Yoongi. Our viewers –“ Your screen goes black.
You scramble out of your blanket, kicking it away as you close the distance between the couch and the TV. You smack your hand against the side of the screen, cursing under your breath as it only begins to flicker with static. You need to hear that question. You could see it in the look the host gave him, that she was going to say something that hadn’t been asked before.
The pressure builds in your chest the longer the TV doesn’t cooperate, the force behind your hits growing stronger for each one. It can’t have been out for more than five seconds, but it’s five seconds too long. Please, please, please. You stumble back a step as the image flickers back in, the colours a little distorted but the sound working just fine. “–are you a taken hybrid?”
Yoongi’s smile falters, and then, “No.” He shakes his head, the corners of his mouth pinched, but the host doesn’t seem to notice.
“Oh? Such a handsome hybrid as yourself?” She laughs. You can feel something bubbling up your throat, your hands trembling as you retreat another step. She places her hand back on Yoongi’s arm; manicured fingers giving the fabric of his sweater a teasing tug.
“Well, do let me know if you want someone to fill that role.”
Yoongi’s ears twitch, looking like they might twist back at her words, but they don’t. And then the tightness in Yoongi’s face disappears, his eyes glittering as he grins back at the host, “I’ll keep that in mind.”
You inhale sharply, the rush of air forcing itself into your lungs making you choke as you slowly sink to the floor. The little thread of hope you were clutching on to seems to float away right before your eyes, a strangled noise leaving your lips as you watch Yoongi’s smiling face on the screen. Yoongi isn’t coming back. Why should he? You were nothing more than a glorified roommate, and after what you told him, you can’t blame him for not wanting to see you again.
A sob rips its way out of your throat, your heart feeling like it splits clean in two as the realization dawns on you. Yoongi has already let you go, so maybe it’s time that you do the same. You fumble around for your phone in your pocket; quickly pulling up your recent calls and dialling the only person that will know how to help you. You keep watching the TV screen until it grows too blurry, your tears burning against your skin as they start carving out paths down your cheeks.
The moment the call connects, you sob out a pitiful, “Jihyo? Can you please come over?”
.
“It’ll be okay,” Jihyo’s arms is wrapped tightly around your middle as she holds you close. Sana is snuggled up against your back, her careful fingers smoothing down your hair as you cry into Jihyo’s shoulder. You’re exhausted; the kind only crying for an hour straight can make you. You had blubbered out everything to Jihyo and Sana the moment they stepped inside your apartment, all the hurt and insecurities you had been bottling up for the last weeks spilling out like a waterfall.
You told them about the silence and the distance between you and Yoongi, how you had barely spoken to him even a week before the trial. And maybe the worst thing to admit, the words that you barely manage to squeeze out between your lips - is how much you like him. And how much it hurts that Yoongi doesn’t feel the same way.
Sana had let out an angry squeak at your words, her hands cupping your face as she sternly told you that it wasn’t true. That Yoongi would’ve never chosen you as a rut partner if he didn’t like you. And maybe that hurt even more, that he had liked you, your already broken heart fissuring and splintering into tiny pieces.
“Maybe he liked me then, but that was b-before he knew,” You sniffled, and Sana let out a whine in protest as she rubbed her face along your shoulders, desperate to calm you down. While scenting didn’t work for you, you still appreciated the sentiment all the same, a watery smile tugging on you lips as Sana muttered, “It doesn’t change that easily,” against you skin.
You’ve never been more thankful for your friends than you are right now. There’s still an ache in your chest you know will take a long time to heal, but having Jihyo and Sana wrapped around you makes the idea of facing it a little easier. You finally pull away once your breathing has evened out, your skin under your eyes swollen and tender.
“I’ll get us something to drink,” You wince at the hoarseness in your voice, ruffling your hand through Sana’s hair as you get up. The dog hybrid’s ears finally perk up as you give her a soft smile, the sad frown on her face melting into a blinding grin at how you seem to be feeling a little better.
You squeeze Jihyo’s shoulder as you shuffle past her on the couch, almost feeling a little unsteady on your feet from how much you’ve cried. Once you make it into the kitchen you pull out a few drinks from your fridge, always keeping a couple of bottles of Sana and Jihyo’s favourites in the back in case they come by. You ignore the growing stack of bills you pass by on your kitchen counter, pushing down the wave of helplessness that threatens to wash over you.
You’re already falling behind on your payments, and you have a sinking feeling that you might not be able to keep your job for much longer. By testifying in court you had put a target on your head, and you know your boss is more than ready to pull the trigger. He’s probably aware that you know about his corruption, and you’ve seen the nasty looks he’s been giving you over the last week. You don’t doubt he’ll be able to find something legal to fire you over, making it so that you can’t even complain about being wrongfully let go.
You shake yourself out of your thoughts before you can have another breakdown, grounding yourself in the chilled drinks pressed against your skin as you make your way back into the living room.
.
You sink back down on the couch after Jihyo and Sana leave, your dark apartment illuminated faintly by the moonlight that reaches your windows. Your back will probably kill you tomorrow, but you just can’t spend another night alone in your bed. It had always felt like just the right size before, but after sharing it with Yoongi for so long, it now just feels too big and cold. Empty.
You wrap yourself up in the same blanket as before, the emotional exhaustion of the day finally hitting you with full force as you try to make yourself comfortable. But despite it all, you still can’t fall asleep. While your body might feel tired, your mind is still working overtime, running through all the possible scenarios and thoughts it can get its hands on. You huff, pulling the blanket up even higher until it covers your nose. The living room really is too cold, but your limbs feel to heavy to attempt to move and do something about it. Just as you feel yourself begin to slip, your mind finally quieting down – your front door unlocks.
You squeeze your eyes shut, willing whomever it is to go away. God, why do you have to get robbed today of all days? You hear the door open and shut, the lock being twisted back into place. You grip the edges of the blanket tighter, hoping the intruder won’t be able to make out your form in the darkness. Your blood is rushing so loudly in your ears you can hardly make anything out, but then it feels like your body screeches to a halt the moment you hear something jiggle, the unmistakable sound of keys being dropped on the little shelf you have in your hallway. There’s only person you know off beside yourself who has a key to the apartment. Yoongi.
The familiar sound of Yoongi’s soft footsteps makes your eyes burn, the longing you thought you had managed to cry out earlier coming back tenfold as he moves closer. He pauses when he reaches the couch, your mind going blank as something plush and soft touches your forehead.
“I’m sorry,” Yoongi whispers, the soft exhale brushing over your skin before he pulls back. The words feel like lead in your stomach, the burning in your eyes almost unbearable as you keep them squeezed shut. The back of Yoongi’s hand trails gently down the side of your face once before it’s gone, and you listen as he makes his way into your bedroom, the door quietly clicking shut behind him.
You quickly press your hand against your mouth, muffling the sound of your cries. He must’ve come back to get the rest of his things. Why would he else get back to your apartment so late, and not wake you up? You use the sleeve of Yoongi’s hoodie to wipe away the tears from your face, not wanting him to know you’re awake when he leaves. If he wants to disappear into the night and not tell you, then fine. You’ll let him. You suppose it’s the least you can do.
You force your breathing to even out, trying you best to think of everything except for the hybrid in the next room. The spot Yoongi kissed on your forehead still tingles, and you can practically feel the ghost of his touch still trailing down your skin. You don’t want to be awake when he leaves. You know there’s no way you can go to sleep once you know he’s officially gone. If you fall asleep while he’s still here, well, maybe you can at least let yourself pretend one last time.
You can hear Yoongi quietly moving around in your bedroom, the mellow background noise and the knowledge that you aren’t alone proving to be just what you need to drift off to sleep.
.
You let out a confused grumble as you feel something heavy shift on your chest. The weight isn’t exactly uncomfortable, it’s just .. not something that’s supposed to be there. It must still in the middle of the night if the pitch darkness behind your eyelids is anything to go by, and the thing on top of your chest feels warm even through the blanket covering your body. Your eyes are almost glued shut from how swollen they are, and so it takes more effort than you would like to admit to get them to open up. You pry them open, slowly blinking up at the ceiling at few times to get them to focus in the darkness. You slowly tilt your head downwards, not sure what to think but definitely not expecting to find two golden eyes to be staring straight back at you.
You blink. The eyes blink back.
And then you scream.
You honestly shock yourself awake at your own volume, the creature letting out a loud hiss before something sharp swipes across your cheek. The sting makes the sound die in your throat, a strangled hiccup leaving your lips as you see the golden eyes widen in the darkness. The creature scrambles off your lap, claws skidding against the floor as it disappears into your bedroom. Hardly even a second passes before you hear a loud thud, and you twist your neck just in time to see Yoongi running out of your room – a sweater tugged halfway down his torso and a pair of sweatpants barely hanging on to his hips.
“Y/n, shit–“ Yoongi curses as he crashes into the coffee table, the sound making you wince even in your groggy state. He sinks down to his knees by the couch, fingers shaking as he reaches out to touch your cheek. Your mind feels like static, unable to comprehend what’s going on. Why is Yoongi still here? Why hasn’t he left– “Ouch,” You flinch as Yoongi’s fingers brush across the tender skin on your face. With your eyes finally adjusted to the darkness, you can see how Yoongi’s ears fall flat against his head as you pull away, his expression crumbling.
“I’m so sorry kitten, I didn’t mean to hurt you,” Yoongi’s posture slouches, his hand dropping back into his lap as he hangs his head. You run your fingers gingerly along the scratch on your cheek, wincing as it burns under your touch. You take a moment to watch the top of the cat hybrid’s head, trying to commit to memory how soft the fur on his ears look and how they seem to almost glow in the soft moonlight.
“It’s fine, I just .. why are you still here Yoongi?” You ask, your voice barely above a whisper. You shift around on the couch until you’re leaning against the backrest, facing the hybrid in front of you. If this is the last time you see him, you want to at least do it properly.
Yoongi raises his head to look up at you, dark eyebrows pulled tight in confusion as his gaze roams over your face, “Why wouldn’t I be?”
You swallow around the lump in your throat, hands digging nervously into the blanket around your waist. God, does he really need you to spell it out for him? You never pegged him for being so mean.
“I haven’t seen you in weeks, Yoongi. The only updates I got were from Mr. Yang and that’s only because I asked for them,” You huff, some of the annoyance and concern you had buried bubbling back up to the surface. Yoongi seems to shrink in on himself slightly, a look of remorse flashing across his face.
“And I watched the interview – you said you weren’t a taken hybrid,” You pause, gathering up whatever little courage you have left before you let the words spill out of your mouth. “I know I was only helping you with your rut, that we never agreed on anything more than that, but still I thought that .. I thought that maybe you liked me too,” Yoongi’s tail does a quick flick behind his back, his dark eyes staring back at your silently, prompting you to continue.
You let out a shaky breath, forcing out a tight smile across you lips. “But I was wrong, and I can see that now. It was my mistake for thinking that you would want to stay; I know Mr. Yang has provided you with other places to live – better places. You’re free to leave Yoongi.” Free to be with someone you want to be with.
“Leave?” Yoongi looks like he’s bitten into something sour as he echoes you word back at you, “I know I can leave whenever I want to, but I don’t. Is this your way of telling me you’re kicking me out?”
“What? No!” You sputter.
“Then stop telling me to leave,” Yoongi says, his chest rumbling with displeasure.
“But–“ Yoongi cuts you off with a shake to his head.
“No. I don’t know what you think you heard, but it’s wrong,” He grumbles. Yoongi snatches your phone up from the coffee table; the screen illuminating the hard set of his mouth as he quickly types something out. The host’s voice fills the room before it begins to cut in and out, Yoongi skipping through the interview until he finds what he’s looking for.
“Here,” He wraps your hand around your phone, fingers tightly closed around yours as he presses play on the screen. You squint against the light, watching with weary eyes as the host leans forward to touch his arm.
“Yoongi. Our viewers have been sending in questions, and what most people seem to be wondering about is what you’re going to do now that your previous ownership was nullified. They want to know whether you’ve found a new owner yet,” You suck in a surprised breath, dread filling your stomach as you watch her pouty lips curve around the next words, “So, are you a taken hybrid?”
Heat starts creeping up your neck, embarrassment blooming in your cheeks as you realize just how wrong you were. Fuck. Yoongi taps the screen to pause the video, his slender fingers removing the phone from your grasp.
“I’m not leaving and I don’t have a new owner yet,” Yoongi states, his hands finding yours again.
“I’m sorry it took me so long to come back home kitten,” Yoongi’s voice softens, “I needed some time to think, and I wanted to make sure that everything was in order before I did.”
“I never blamed you for what you told me Y/n, it was just a lot to process with everything else going on.” Something soft brushes against your wrist, Yoongi’s tail gently coaxing you to look up and meet his gaze, “You were a child, there wasn’t anything you could’ve done – if anything, I think I should be thanking you.”
“What? Don’t be ridiculous, why would you ever thank me for that?” Your eyes snap up to meet his, a frown settling on your face as you try to shake off Yoongi’s hands, but he doesn’t let you. He just tugs them closer to his body instead.
“Because at least someone cared enough about my mom to put her to rest. You cared,” Yoongi gives you a soft smile, his thumbs creating random patterns over your knuckles, “It’s fine if you don’t accept that right now, but I need you to know that I don’t blame you for what happened, and neither should you.”
A sense of relief washes over you at Yoongi’s words. Knowing that he doesn’t hate you, or blame you, for the actions you did or didn’t do, take what feels like a heavy weight off your shoulders.
“I– Okay,” You murmur. Even though you still feel guilty and not quite ready to accept it just yet, it’s still a comforting thing to know.
“Good,” Yoongi nods. “And the nullification took a little longer than expected, there wasn’t exactly anything that was done the right way in the original adoption,” He grimaces. “But now that I’m officially ownerless, we can finally do this right.” Yoongi releases your hands long enough to run and grab a stack of papers from your bedroom, flickering on a nearby light on his way back before he settles down next to you on the couch.
He hands you the documents silently, and you feel you eyes grow wide as you see the bold large font saying ‘Adoption request’ at the top of it. “Yoongi–“ You breathe, confusion colouring your expression as you turn to look at him uncertainly.
“I want you to,” Yoongi interjects, his dark eyes open and honest as he meets your gaze. You shake your head softly, biting down on your lip as you scan through the form. This one seems legit, pretty similar to the one Jihyo filled out when she adopted Sana.
“But you finally have the chance to be a free hybrid Yoongi, I don’t think this is right.”
“Y/n,” Yoongi sighs. “I don’t want to be one. Sure, you get rights you didn’t have before, but at what cost? The law might say you’re supposed to be a full citizen but you’re not. You think Ki-woo would still feel the need to shed his tail if the society we live in were fair to hybrids?”
Your hesitance answers for itself. “Wait – You talked with Ki-woo?” You can’t help but ask.
“Of course. Ki-woo might be a free hybrid but he still depends on Mr. Yang for most things. We talked about it a lot, and I don’t want it. Another year of courtrooms isn’t exactly tempting after these last few weeks,” Yoongi’s ear twitch, his tail doing an annoyed flick against his thigh.
“I’m not going to force you to adopt me if you don’t want to kitten, I know you never wanted a hybrid in the first place. I just want to stay here, with you.” The sincerity in his voice makes something in your stomach flutter, a certain kind of nervous excitement you haven’t felt in years. “Of course, but I’ll .. own you Yoongi. You do realize that, right?” You grimace.
Yoongi snorts, his eyes sparkling dangerously in the low light as he tilts his head to look at you.
“And? If you’re worried about power imbalance, then don’t be,” He reaches out to slowly trail a finger down your arm, an amused smile appearing on his lips as you barely manage to suppress a shudder from his touch.
“We both know who the dominant person in this relationship is kitten, and it’s not you. You have nothing to worry about.” He grins at the half-hearted glare you give him, gummy smile at full display.
The sight makes your whole body feel pleasantly warm – the chill that you’ve been feeling in your bones for the last weeks finally chased out. But one word stands out, one that your heart desperately tries to cling to.
“Relationship?” You ask.
“Yeah. I think we did this a bit backwards kitten, but spending your rut with someone isn’t something you do lightly. There has to be a certain level of trust and attraction for a hybrid to even consider someone to be their rut partner,” Yoongi explains.
“I know it happened a little fast and that we didn’t have a chance to talk about it afterwards, but, I would like to be yours if you’ll have me Y/n. I really like you.” Your breath hitches at Yoongi’s confession, your body singing with excitement over the fact that Yoongi feels the same as you do.
You take the chance to shuffle closer, your knees knocking into Yoongi’s. Gentle hands immediately cup your face, careful to avoid the scratch on your cheek. Yoongi slowly closes the gap between you, his lips brushing so softly against yours. The gentle touch is enough to make your heart feel like it’s going to fly out of your chest. “I really like you too,” You smile against his lips, your grin widening as Yoongi hurriedly starts pressing quick pecks against any skin that isn’t covered by his hands.
“Good. It would’ve been awkward if you had changed your mind in the last ten minutes,” Yoongi huffs playfully. You let out a low snort as you pull back, grabbing one of Yoongi’s hands to intertwine your fingers. You can’t help but marvel at how perfectly you seem to fit together.
You glance at the papers in your lap, the prospect of actually adopting Yoongi legally as a hybrid and not a cat a little more daunting than you would like to admit. You give his hand a soft squeeze, his soft tail once again finding its way to your wrist. “Can you give me some time to think about it?” “Of course kitten. Take all the time you need.”
.
The couch isn’t that comfortable, and it definitely wasn’t made for two to sleep on, but cuddled up to Yoongi’s chest, his steady heartbeat underneath your ear and his arms wrapped around your waist, you think you’ll be willing to deal with a sore back for the rest of your life as long as you can continue to have this. You press your face deeper into the fabric of his sweater, drinking in the familiar scent.
You’ve almost drifted off to sleep when Yoongi lets out an annoyed hiss, a startled squeak escaping your mouth as your suddenly flipped around. Yoongi scrunches his nose as he hovers over you, a look of disgust flashing across his face.
“I’m sorry kitten, I’ve been trying to ignore it, but you absolutely reek of dog.”
The image of Sana rubbing her face along your neck earlier pops into your head, and you can’t help but giggle, Yoongi’s eyes narrowing at the teasing sound.
You open your arms wide, tilting your head to the side as you bare your neck, presenting the spot you know Sana was snuggled up against earlier.
“Do what you need to do,” The words have barely even left your mouth before Yoongi collapses against you with a grumble – and only a few seconds pass by before you start to feel soft vibrations against your chest, Yoongi purring happily as he finally gets to cover Sana’s scent with his own.
Yeah, you think you might even be able to move mountains as long as you can stay like this forever.
- - - - Only one chapter left to go! I know a lot of you wanted Yoongi to become a free hybrid, but Yoongi’s decision will be discussed even more in the next chapter, so don’t hate me too much just yet lol! And ah yes finally, the dorks are coming back together :)
PS. Something fun will be announced on August 1st, so remember to check back then!
As always, I hope you’re all well and my inbox is always open if you want to chat about the story or just fics or life in general! See you all soon! In case you maybe enjoy my stories and want to buy me a coffee, you can do so here! 💖

The best wig brands for natural-looking styles in 2019
When I discovered wigs, nothing was the same as before. (I'm sure Zendaya and Kylie would agree with Jenner.) They make it incredibly easy to experiment with virtually any look while keeping your natural strands away from the elements. More importantly, they do not require a long-term commitment or a hairdressing experience. I know that I speak for many when I say that they are the best kind of accessory, especially if you actually invest in the best wig brands. Besides, nothing feels better than being able to change his actions as often as changing his outfits, even if it puts a little time into everyday life.
Whether you're looking to invest in a new signature look or spice up a monotone mood, I recommend keeping some of these top notch devices available. You never know when a hair crisis comes up, but if you have a wig on hand, that's the least worry. From affordable shortcuts to long and luxurious locks, here are 14 of the most natural wigs that will make anyone think it's right.

While the real hair wigs are endowed with a hefty price tag, the synthetic wigs are like no other one you've ever tried. If you want to play with color and length, we recommend the Knight Ryder 26 inch synthetic wig. You have to make a statement no matter where you go.

Xiaomi Redmi 3s Review
INCREDULOUS
Xiaomi entered into the Indian market in 2014 through Redmi 1s, a low budget friendly device.Since then it has actually started to conquer the Indian market. Xiaomi is winning the hearts of the people mainly because it provides Top Notch Specs at Affordable Price.
In August 2016,Xiaomi launched the successor of Redmi 2 i.e. Redmi 3s.This mobile comes in two variants- 32gb+3gb@8999 and 16gb+2gb @6999.Lets dive into its full review-:
Overview
The Xiaomi redmi 3s sports a 5 inch HD 294 ppi pixel density IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen. It runs on MIUI 8 out of the box.It features Snapdragon 430 SOC chipset which is a Octa-core 1.4 GHz containing Cortex-A53 CPU and has Adreno 505 GPU.It comes with a massive battery of 4100 mah which can easily last for a day.The redmi 3s comes with all the important sensors like Accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass. It has a hybrid sim slot which can be mood spoiler for many people. The Redmi 3s version has 16GB internal memory and 2GB RAM,while the 3s Prime sports 32GB internal and 3GB RAM and a fingerprint scanner. It is Available in three colour variants-Gold, Dark Gray, Silver.
Design and Screen
After launching Redmi Note 3 and Mi Max,Xiaomi has finally settled for a pocket friendly device. Its 5inch HD display with a pixel density of 294ppi is a delight. It also has Reading mode, which prevents eye fatigue by reducing blue light rays from the screen. Color temperature can also be adjusted based on your preference - warm, standard, or cool.Frankly speaking, the Reading Mode is nothing special. It just turns your screen yellowish and I personally don't feel reduces eye fatigue.Plus the Auto Brightness sensor were not apt.The brightness adjustment took sometime to adjust which made me turn it off ultimately. Xiaomi also does not specify whether it uses Cornis Gorilla Glass or Asahi. So its recommended to use a tampered glass.
Dimensions- 139.3mm(L)*69.6mm(W)*8.5mm(H)
We are looking at the fingerprint scanner at the back with plastic antennae bands at the top and bottom. The power and volume buttons are on right. It features a IR blaster which connects to all of devices easily. The 3.5mm jack is at the top and speakers are at the back. The speakers are not properly placed and do not sound good. They are in fact less louder than its predecessor Redmi 2.It looks in a lot of ways similar to Redmi Note 3.The weight distortion is perfect and gives a good premium in hand feel(although it is slippery).Overall the Redmi 3s(Also Prime)is a good looking device with a nice built. The only thing that's awful is the speaker.
Hardware and Performance-
This is one of the areas which matters the most to the users and believe me Xiaomi has done a commendable job in this area. For years the low budget mobile segment suffered from some lag issues and did not provide a smooth gaming experience but the tables have turned with the new Snapdragon 430 SOC 64 bit Octa Core chipset paired with ARM Cortex A57 and Adreno 505 GPU. Xiaomi has redefined the low budget mobile segment.Games like NOVA 3,Asphalt 8,Mortal Kombat X and FIFA 16 were running without any glitch on the Prime version.I tried playing these games on 2GB RAM version and i was not disappointed. The games were very much playable but there were some occasional lags.
Camera-
The Redmi 3s offers a 13mp camera with f/2.0 and PDAF and a 5mp front camera with f/2.2 aperture. Both the camera's allow 1080p recording. But the recording from front camera was more or less awful. But considering the price point of this mobie its not that bad.Due to lack of Optical Image Stabilisation And dual LED flash the images in low lighting conditions were not good. But images come out to be better in good lighting conditions. The HDR mode actually sucks on this mobile. It means that its not only gonna take longer time but also the image will be blurry. You have to actually take a lot of shots to actually get a decent photo. My advice don't use the HDR mode.
The front camera, I dont know why but always doubles my age.The selfies i took were okayish.Don't expect anything out of the blue.Overall i would say that the camera performance was good enough according to the price point.Avoid using the HDR mode and using the cam in low lighting conditions. Here are some actual shots-
Other Aspects-
Although camera was not something to brag about but the performance and the battery life on this device are praiseworthy. The battery could easily last a day even when i used the mobile intensively.Hats off to the battery life. But it takes around 2.5 hours to charge the battery from 0% to 100%.The MIUI 8 runs fluently without any glitches. The device wont disappoint you in overall day to day usage.Sometimes the pre-installed apps would crash occasionally(especially exlporer) which I reported to Xiaomi but nothing happened.Users cannot uninstall the pre installed apps. The 3.5mm jack on the top gives a flat output. It is inferior to its predecessor Redmi 2.The external spekaers are also not loud enough. The call and voice reception quality was fine and it supports voice over LTE.Bottomline-I would definitely advise you to buy this mobile but would recommend you to go for the 2gb RAM version and save your INR2000 bucks as there is a difference of only 1000 b/w Redmi 3s prime and Redmi Note 4.Frankly Redmi note 4 is a much much better deal. You can buy 3s prime only if don't prefer the big size of Redmi Note 4 otherwise stick to RN4.
PROS
Amazing Battery Life
Snapdragpn 430 offers excellent performance
Great built
Affordable and value for money
CONS
Average camera
3gb RAM version not well priced
Availabiliy Issues

Tokyo Stylez has made so many wigs for our favorites over the years, including Cardi B and Kylie Jenner. If you have ever wished that you could get even a touch of Touch by Tokyo Magic, you're in luck. Last summer Tokyo teamed up with Bellami Hair to create a line of synthetic and human hair wigs. While the real hair wigs are endowed with a hefty price tag, the synthetic wigs are like no other one you've ever tried. Nintendo has been around for a long time (over 127 years old) but it wasn’t until the early ‘80s, when they started to get into video games, specifically consoles.
Since then, we’ve had the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), then the Super NES, the Nintendo 64, the GameCube, the Wii, the Wii U and now we have the Nintendo Switch.
Each of Nintendo’s console offers something unique and with the Switch, Nintendo is blending the lines between home and portable console. Nintendo is in a league of their own, they’re not necessarily concerned with amazing graphics, they’re more focused on how people play games and making sure people are having fun using their systems.
In my time using the Nintendo Switch, I enjoyed using it with a few minor annoyances, which I’ll get back to.
Design & Hardware
The Nintendo Switch has an all-plastic body, just like previous consoles. The actual console is the size of a small tablet and that’s important because the Switch is meant to be taken with you.
The Switch can either be played as a handheld console, a traditional gaming console connected to your TV using the included dock or on your tabletop with the console on its kickstand and Joy-Con controllers used wirelessly.
In my testing, I did have a few issues with the left Joy-Con disconnecting from the console when using them wirelessly. As for battery life when using the Switch in Handheld Mode, it gets about 3 to 6 hours depending on the game (I mostly played Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Zelda). But since the console charges over USB Type-C, you can easily plug it into an external battery pack.
The screen on the Switch is a 6.2-inch capacitive touchscreen, which does get the job but there’s no comparing the quality of the screen to some of the smartphone screens on the market today. The Switch’s screen is good but not something that is going to blow you away.
On the back of the console, you’ll find the Nintendo Switch logo and a kickstand which was very flimsy and came off easily when just applying a bit of pressure. Beneath the kickstand is where you’ll find the microSD card slot, which you’ll need one because the Switch only comes with 32GB of internal storage and can fill up quickly.
The bottom of console, is where you’ll find the USB Type-C port, so you’ll be able to use a battery pack while taking the Switch on the go. The top of the console, is where you’ll find the headphone jack, the volume buttons and the power button.
On either size of the console, are the Joy-Con controllers which you can use in a variety of ways. Either attached to the Switch, being handheld, as two controllers for multiplayer or in the Grip that makes them more into a proper controller.
Both Joy-Con controllers have a joystick, four buttons that act as A, B, X & Y and a + & – button along with SL and SR shoulder buttons. They also have accelerometers, and gyro-sensors and HD rumble for independent left and right motion controls. The HD rumble can emulate the “sensation of ice cubes in a glass, as well as water being poured.”
The left Joy-Con has a capture button that you can use to capture screenshots (and soon videos too), the right Joy-Con has the home button and a NFC touchpoint for support for Nintendo’s amiibo figures and there is also a IR Motion Camera that can detect distance, shape and motion of nearby objects.
Overall, the Switch feels solid in the hands but nothing to get overly ecstatic about. The Nintendo Switch retails for $399 CAD and you have the option of getting it with a pair of grey Joy-Cons or one blue & red Joy-Con combo. More Joy-Cons can be purchased later on for $99.99 CAD for a pair of them, they come in Grey, Neon Blue, Neon Red, and Neon Yellow.
The Nintendo Switch is available from Best Buy, EB Games, Toys R Us, Wal-Mart and Amazon.ca (I wouldn’t recommend buying it from Amazon.ca right now because it’s not being shipped and sold by Amazon, it’s being sold by third-party retailers who are selling it for more than the $399 CAD MSRP) but it’s out of stock at all of these places.
In the box, you’ll receive the Nintendo Switch console, the Switch Dock, a Left and Right Joy Con, Joy Con wrist straps, the Joy Con grip, a HDMI cable, an AC adapter.
I also got to test out the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, which made playing games on the console so much easier.
The buttons on the Joy-Cons are too small for my liking, and my fingers started to hurt after a while using the Joy-Cons attached to the console while play Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. But the Pro Controller is expensive, at $89.99 CAD, which is more than an Xbox One or PS4 controller. The Pro Controller only comes in one colour option.
Individual left and right Grey Joy-Con controllers can be purchased for $64.99 CAD. The Joy-Con Charging Grip, which will allow you to charge the controllers while using them, goes for $39.99 CAD. If you have multiple TVs in your house and you want to be able to connect your Switch to them, you’ll need to get another Switch Dock set and includes the Dock, AC adapter and a HDMI cable.
The Joy-Con Grip
The Joy-Con Grip
One thing to note, is that you will have trouble finding a Nintendo Switch in stock as it’s out of stock everywhere and same goes for some of the accessories. Also, that the Switch does not come with a pack-in game, so make sure to pick a game up when buying the Switch.
Software
As of writing this review, there aren’t that many games currently out for the Switch. Right now, there’s The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and 1-2 Switch and a couple of indie games on the Nintendo e-shop.
Since the Switch is a portable console, it uses game cartridges, which are similar to the ones for the Nintendo 3DS. Also, under no circumstance, try to taste the game cards, they are coated with benzoate, which is a non-toxic bitterant. This is used to help prevent little kids from accidentally eating them. I was sent three games to test out on the Switch, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and 1-2 Switch.
1-2 Switch is a good way to show-off the Switch and the Joy-Cons’ capabilities and may be lots of fun with friends and family but the game should have been included in the box as a pack-in game. It doesn’t make sense to me that Nintendo is selling 1-2 Switch separately for $64.99 (which is slightly lower than the cost of other Switch games which go for $79.99 CAD).
Out of the three, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was by far my favourite, as I’m not the biggest Zelda fan.
Playing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is similar to previous Mario Kart games and being able to play it on the go, made it all more enjoyable.
One of the biggest thing that has plagued Nintendo consoles, most recently with the Wii U, is the lack of support from third-party developers but Nintendo says that they were “more aggressive” in trying to bring third-party developers to the Switch. There are about 100 third-party games in development from over 50 developers and publishers from such companies as Ubisoft, Sega, Square Enix and EA.
There will be specific versions of games like The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and a new FIFA game coming to the Switch.
The software on the Switch itself, is very simple, with the games you last played or installed on the main screen and then things like e-Shop, settings, news, power below that.
I had no trouble getting around the Switch’s interface and in you have the option of a light or dark theme. The Switch supports up to 8 user profiles and each can be tied to a Nintendo account.
Each profile can choose either a pre-made Mii or make their own using the Mii creator. The Switch does have an online service or multiplayer or download and purchasing games from the Nintendo eShop. Right now, Nintendo isn’t charging for their online service which gets you access to things like multiplayer, lobby and voice chats but they will start this fall as a subscription.
Right now, the Switch doesn’t have any apps that you can download or even a web browser, which seems like a missed opportunity. Even though Nintendo has said that these things are coming soon.
One thing that really bothered me is the ability to add friends because Nintendo has retained the Friend Codes from the Wii U. It would be so much easier, if you could just enter your friend’s’ username or Nintendo ID to add them. The Switch is region-free, so you’ll be able to use game cartridges or download content from anywhere in the world.
Final Thoughts
Overall, I had a great time with the Nintendo Switch. It’s a good system and offers a unique experience compared to the Xbox One and PS4. But as of right now, I wouldn’t wholeheartedly recommend getting a Nintendo Switch right now, the biggest reasons being the lack of games and it’s hard to get one right now.
I would recommend waiting until the fall to get a Switch, partly because by Black Friday and Boxing Day, you can get a much better deal. Right now, Nintendo is selling the Switch as just the console without any pack-in games (which Nintendo says it to “keep costs down”) but I guarantee that but the time Black Friday or Boxing Day rolls around, you’ll be able to get the Nintendo Switch for the $399 CAD retail price along with a game included in that price.
Right now, stores are selling the console by itself or the console plus a game at the cost of $479 CAD, which may save you a bit of money than buying both separately but I would highly suggest waiting (if you can). Plus you’re bound to see discount on games for the Switch by the fall. Also, by this same time, there will be more Nintendo Switch consoles in stock and it will be easier to get one.
But if you absolutely, have to have the Switch right now, then by all means, go ahead and try to get your hands on one.
Pros
Easy to use
Solid build
Easily switches from portable to home console
Great screen
Unique design
Cons
Lack of games
Flimsy kickstand
Accessories are expensive
No pack-in game
Joy-Con can get uncomfortable to use
Left Joy-Con connection issues

Part one Part two Part three Part four Part five Part six Part seven Part eight Part nine Part ten (M) Part twelve Part thirteen Part fourteen (M)
(A/N: I realized I had accidentally named both the older co-worker and Yoongi’s first owner as “Mr. Park”, so I have gone back to change Y/n’s co-worker’s name to Mr. Yang lol) “Yoongi?” You call out, your voice barely audible above the heavy showers thundering down against the asphalt. You skid to a stop as you see a dark figure round a corner, the silhouette barely visible against the imposing darkness of the alleyways. There’s no way of knowing if it’s even Yoongi, but you’re grasping at straws at this point.
You’ve lost track of where you are, the brick walls and cement structures all blending together into a concrete jungle you’re not sure you’ll ever make it out of. You’ve never strayed so far from your own neighbourhood before, and the tightness in the back of your neck reminds you that maybe it’s better to keep moving. You can’t help but feel like you’re being watched, every fleeting shadow making your skin crawl.
Your soaked shoes hit the pavement loudly as you turn to run after the figure, the sound echoing between the high walls. You managed to slip on a pair of shoes and a jacket before you braved the horrible autumn weather, but Yoongi didn’t, and you don’t even want to imagine how drenched he must be by now.
You’re panting by the time you make it to the end of the alleyway, the closed space suddenly opening up into a small park. It’s raining so heavy you can hardly see anything that’s further away than your hand, and a loud crack of thunder sends you scurrying across the open patch of grass until you’re huddled underneath a big tree. The red leaves that are still clinging on provides a little bit of shelter against the harsh weather, and you lean heavily against the trunk, exhausted after running up and down the streets for hours.
You just need to take a little breather before you start searching for him again, you’re not going home until you find him. You wince as raindrops start trickling down your neck, obviously your coat won’t provide you with much protection anymore. You let your eyes glide across the small park, surprised that it seems to be pretty well maintained despite the rough area you’re in. Even the little kids area seems to have been left alone, you can’t even spot a trace of graffiti on the playground equipment.
All of you attention is on the bright red tubes, and you swear you catch something move inside one of them as you squint to get a better look. You hesitate – unsure if checking it out is a good idea or not considering you’re all alone in an area you’re not familiar with. But the sense of what if wins over your anxiety of what might be lurking inside. You’ve already come this far; you might as well just sneak a peak to calm your mind.
Despite the rain, you take your time moving across the grounds. The wet gravel crunches obnoxiously loud underneath your shoes as you get closer to the tubes, and it must be alerting whatever is inside of them of your presence.
“Hello?” You carefully call out, but nothing greets you back aside from the insistent thrumming of rain against plastic. The tubes are a little higher up than you expected, and your hands are shaking with nerves by the time you use them to lift yourself up to get a peek inside. It takes your eyes a moment to adjust; the tubes pitch black from the lack of light outside. Nothing.
You feel your stomach tighten with disappointment at the empty space. You’re ready to let go and leave when a flash of lightening sends you rushing inside, your heart nearly jumping out of your chest in fright as the sky lets out another loud crack of thunder directly over you head.
You bring your knees to your chest, your shaky breaths echoing down the tube as you try to get your pulse under control. You think you’ve just about managed to get it back to normal when you hear a sound further down the tunnel, just around the sharp turn you can’t see anything past.
Your mind is screaming at you to leave– to brave the rain and thunder instead of staying cooped up in here with god knows what. But you can’t help but feel that there’s a pull, something that’s urging your body to move deeper into the tubes. Your muscles are locked up and stiff with fear as you begin to crawl further into it, but it’s still not enough to stop you. Your fingers scrape against the plastic as you move closer to the sharp turn, your body already aching from the cramped space. You’re too scared to breathe; it feels like the pitch darkness is going to swallow you up the moment you make a sound.
As you reach the turn, an unknown whimper makes you freeze in your tracks. It’s hard to make out over the loud raindrops pelting against the plastic above your head, but if you strain your ears enough, you can just about make out the low noise.
You learn two things at once.
One, you’re definitely not alone in here, and two, the other person in here with you is crying. It’s obvious they want to be left alone if they’ve hid themselves away so well, but what if they’re hurt? Or what if ..
You peek around the corner, the darkness making it hard to make out the shape of the person further down the tunnel. They’re curled into on themselves, hands covering their face as their low sobs ring through the enclosed space. The sobs are just so desperately sad that it makes your own eyes sting, and you’re trying to blink away the tears when another boom of thunder sounds just over your heads, the sky flashing white as lightening strikes. The light is enough to illuminate the tube from the other side, and it doesn’t last longer than a second, but it’s enough.
You scramble forward, the metal bolts on the floor digging into your palms as you hurry over to the huddled form.
“Yoongi,” You choke, your voice alerting the cat hybrid of your presence.
He jerks, head bumping against the top of the tube as he lets out a garbled hiss. You can see the outline of his puffed out tail as it trashes back and forth, his narrowed eyes looking almost golden in the poor light.
“It’s me, Y/n,” You breathe as you crawl closer, the tight space making it hard to move as fast as you want to. The wild look in Yoongi’s eyes passes as he recognizes your voice, and another garbled noise escapes his lips. The cat hybrid’s posture still screams hostility, but you don’t even pause before throwing your shaking arms around his shoulders, bringing him flush against your body.
Yoongi stiffens at the contact, his tail nearly whacking you in the face as it continues to whip wildly behind his back. The space you’re in is awkward and cramped, but Yoongi doesn’t seem to mind it as he melts against your warmth, his face tucked into your neck as he lets out a harsh breath.
You hug him closer, wrapping your body around his as much as possible. Yoongi is more drenched than you, his shirt clinging to his body like a second skin. Your fingers skim across his neck as you bring them up to his hair, and he’s absolutely freezing to the touch.
“Yoongi, we need to get you warmed up,” You murmur, wincing at the scratchiness in your throat from all the yelling. Yoongi doesn’t answer; only buries his face deeper into your neck as you gently run your fingers through his hair. And then something wet hits your collarbone. It takes you a second to figure out how you even noticed it considering you’re already soaking wet, but the realization hits you as it happens again. It’s not icy raindrops falling against your skin, no– it’s tears.
It dawns on you just as Yoongi lets out a heart wrenching sob, his whole body shaking in your hold. You tug him closer, biting back a startled gasp as he presses his ice-cold nose into your neck. Your heart absolutely shatters from the choked sobs that leave Yoongi’s lips. You’re desperate to make him feel better, but how is that even possible given what he just learned? His mother had been murdered. You feel bile rise in your throat as you’re reminded of the mug shot of your old neighbour. You never suspected a thing.
You’ve had nothing but time to think in the last hours searching for him, your mind whirring through all the information you’ve ever stored about Park Geunho. It was almost too easy to connect the dots – Yoongi’s story matching up with your memories perfectly.
Mr. Park hardly ever left his house, but he always had new people coming to visit him. At the time you thought it was weird, but for all you knew, maybe he just had a lot of friends and didn’t like to socialize outside of his own home. Fluffball’s weight seemed to always dramatically change too, you swear he seemed to suddenly gain a lot of weight and then go back to normal way too quickly. The times you didn’t see him for weeks you would ask Mr. Park where he was, and the man would usually answer that Fluffball was just too lazy to go outside. It didn’t make sense back then, but it does now.
It’s not like you checked if Fluffball was ever a boy or a girl, your young mind just assumed the black cat was a boy and left it at that. Mr. Park just called Fluffball “cat”, so it wasn’t like he ever gave you any pointers to what the gender might have been. The sudden weight gain and loss doesn’t add up if Fluffball was a boy, but if it was a girl, it could’ve been pregnancy. If Mr. Park was illegally breeding hybrids and selling them off like the reporter said, then .. it matches up.
It would make sense if Fluffball gained weight because she was pregnant, and then lost the weight once her children were born. The random people visiting him must have been buyers, and you suppose he hardly ever left home in fear that the hybrids would either escape, or someone would figure it out. You’re honestly surprised Fluffball was even allowed to go outside, but come to think of it, you probably weren’t much of a threat, as young as you were. You had always thought of Mr. Park as too stern and a little scary, but looking back at it now, it wasn’t just sternness in his voice whenever he called for Fluffball, it was animosity.
But, what makes you the most sick to your stomach, is that you now know why Fluffball passed away so suddenly. Mr. Park had killed her. And you had helped him bury her in his garden. He hadn’t even looked remotely sad, his face a blank canvas while you cried your eyes out for the sweet cuddly cat you’d grown so fond of. There’s no wonder you thought you saw a ghost when you visited the shelter and found Yoongi. He’s a splitting image of Fluffball – his mom.
You squeeze your eyes shut as you rest your head on top of Yoongi’s, your own tears silently sliding down your cheeks as you press your lips to his hair. All of this had been going on next door and you didn’t even know. You had been standing next to murderer and you didn’t ever realize that something was even remotely off. It makes you feel disgusted with yourself. It makes you feel guilty.
Do you even have the right to comfort Yoongi? Should you even be allowed to touch him?
“I’m so sorry,” You whisper. You’re sorry Yoongi ever had to experience something like this in the first place, that his life has been nothing but pain and uncertainty. You’re sorry you couldn’t stop it. And you’re sorry that even now, you let yourself feel relived that you found him, that you even dare to feel happy to have him in your arms.
You’re not sure how long it takes before Yoongi’s sobs turn softer, the steady stream of tears running down your neck calming down to a few stray droplets as he takes deep, shaky breaths. You loosen your grip around his back once he starts pulling away, your hands moving up to cup his cheeks instead. His pale skin is blotchy, the white in his eyes rimmed red from all the crying. You press soft pecks to the apple of his cheeks, your thumbs running slowly back and forth over his cold skin.
“Do you want to go home?” You ask. Your soaking wet clothes have dried up a little, but it’s not enough to warn off the bone chilling cold that has settled into your body. You’re not sure how much time has passed since you first set out to follow him, but it’s enough for the temperature to have dropped drastically. You can stay out in the frigid weather all night if Yoongi needs you to, but you’re honestly more worried about him than yourself. He’s way too cold.
“Yeah, lets go home,” The hollow tone in his voice breaks you all over again, so you just settle for a nod, and a soft smile to mask the guilt forcing itself up your throat.
You slip your coat around Yoongi’s shoulders once you both crawl outside of the tubes, the cat hybrid not making a sound as you gently grasp his hand to lead him back home. The rain has let up from a heavy downpour to a light drizzle, and it makes it a little easier for you to spot certain buildings you think might lead you in the right direction. Your phone is dead, so there’s no use trying to look up anything there. You wince for every step Yoongi takes on the cold ground, his bare feet red and bruised from all the walking.
You let out a sigh of relief as you finally see your building, the tall structure looking like beacon of light in the darkness. Yoongi doesn’t make a sound as you tug him back upstairs, nor does he protest when you help him peel the freezing clothes of his ice-cold body. You leave him to take a shower as you hurry into the kitchen, heating up some canned soup you find stuffed into the back of your pantry. It might not be the best, but it just needs to serve its purpose, and that is to heat Yoongi back up.
Your hands hurt as you carefully ladle the soup into a deep bowl, the warm air in your apartment making your fingers burn as they start to thaw from the cold. You make it into the living room with the food just as Yoongi emerges from the bathroom, and you quickly usher him over to the couch to eat.
“I’ll just go get changed real quick, okay?” You say, not really moving from Yoongi’s side until the cat hybrid gives you a stiff nod in response. You make fast work of snatching up warm clothes from your room, wasting no time as you hurry over to the bathroom.
You swear you could almost cry out of relief as you freezing body steps in under the warm cascading water, your numb limbs finally regaining feeling. But you don’t stay there for very long. The moment you’re sure you can move all your body parts normally; you’re out of there – hastily drying yourself off before tugging on the dry clothes.
Yoongi hasn’t moved an inch since you left him, the spoon you laid out for him still perched next to the bowl on the table. His hands are clasped together tightly between his knees, eyes staring mindlessly at a spot on your wall. You slowly slide down next to him on the couch, his ears not even twitching in your direction. You’ve noticed his cat ears seem work on pure instinct, immediately moving to follow whatever sound they pick up on. So the fact that they don’t even stir when you’re so close is worrying – because that means Yoongi is too deep into his own thoughts to hear you, and that’s probably not the best place for him to get lost in right now.
“Yoongi,” You softly call his name as you reach out for his intertwined fingers. You carefully pry his hands apart to place the spoon in his palm, nudging the bowl closer to the edge of the table. Yoongi blinks, his gaze moving from the wall to his hand, his fingers slowly closing around the utensil. His eyes trail over to you; the confused and empty look on his face making your stomach lurch.
“You need to eat,” You remind him. Yoongi watches you for another moment before he nods, his gaze moving back to the steaming soup in front of him. If the situation were different you would’ve felt like a creep just sitting there and watching Yoongi eat, but truthfully, you are pretty sure he never would have taken a bite unless he knew you were.
You wait until the bowl is half empty before you ask the question that’s been on the tip of your tongue all night.
“Why did you leave?”
Yoongi places the spoon back into the soup with a small shrug, his ears falling back into his hair as he stares down at the steaming food.
“I don’t know,” Yoongi’s voice is hoarse and raw. “The only thing I could think of was just that I needed to find that fucker and hurt him in the same way he hurt my mom,” The last few words slips out as a hiss, Yoongi’s lips twisting into a snarl as he remembers the report.
“I still do,” He adds, “I can’t let him get away with this.”
“I’ll help you,” Yoongi is shocked at the conviction in your voice, his eyes flying up to meet yours in surprise. You didn’t only have time to think about Mr. Park and Yoongi’s mom, but also why the other cases in the news report had felt so familiar. They were all from your company.
There’s no cases you have worked on yourself, but you know that one of them was Jihyo’s, and you’ve heard bits and pieces about the others from your co-workers. You had no idea about Mr. Park, his case must’ve been dealt with before you started working there, but you’re certain that the conveniently timed breaches the office has been having these last weeks has to be tied to this.
Jihyo’s case still leaves a sour taste in your mouth, and you can remember how distraught she was when her client’s claim got overruled. That’s probably the hardest aspect of your job, the fact that you can’t do anything else after you hand over all the information and evidence you’ve collected to the lawyer in charge. Jihyo was convinced something was off about it, but neither of you are in a position where your opinion matters, and so it wouldn’t have made a difference. If only, it probably would’ve made the cases of Jihyo’s future clients even more difficult to win, if members of the court already disliked her because she had voiced her concerns.
You’re certain your company is connected to all of this, and your suspect hasn’t exactly been subtle with how he’s been sneaking around on your floor lately. But there’s only one way to find out for sure, and you’re more than ready to get to the bottom of this. You already made a promise to yourself that you would make the ones who had hurt Yoongi pay – and you sure as hell intend to keep it.
.
You’re not surprised at how quiet the office is the following day, it seems like a good chunk of your co-workers must have seen the news and arrived at the same conclusion. Well, maybe not exactly the same, but at least that your company was targeted for a reason. You had texted Jihyo about her case yesterday as well, and your friend looks like she hasn’t slept a wink. She has deep circles underneath her eyes, her usually bright and glowy skin looking dull and tired. Frowning, you take your seat, making a mental note to pick something up for her on your break.
You’re honestly not doing much better yourself. You kept waking up all night to make sure Yoongi was still curled up at the bottom of your bed, the black lump of fur soothing your anxiety just enough to fall back asleep, but not enough that it lasted for more than an hour. You were apprehensive about leaving him at home all by himself, but you quickly shut down that train of thought. Yoongi is an adult. He can leave your apartment whenever he wants to, and he’s more than capable to take care of himself.
You sigh, trying your best to ignore the gnawing worry in your stomach. After all, you have an important mission you need to do today. The day trickles by slowly, your anxiety only growing for each passing hour you’re left alone with your thoughts. You have no guarantee that your hunch is right, but you’re honestly not sure what terrifies you more – cornering the lanky guy from the IT department only to find out he has nothing to do with it, or finding out that he does. You don’t know what lengths this hacker group is willing to go to, or what this guy might be capable of doing. It would be easy to pretend you never noticed anything, but you can’t. This isn’t about you, this is about Yoongi.
You wave Jihyo off when she offers to stay back and wait for you at the end of the day, your nerves at an all time high as your co-workers start leaving one by one. You’re basically bouncing in your seat as you bid the last one goodbye; the floor suddenly plunged into silence. You swallow hard, your phone clutched tightly in your hand as you rise to your feet. You still haven’t figured out the best way to approach him, but you figure you can always use your computer as an excuse.
The stairwell is silent as you make your way down, and it’s only the sound of your footsteps bouncing of the walls that is keeping you company. You pause to take a deep breath once you reach the door to the IT department, trying your best to convince your fried nerves that he might not even be in today.
But of course, that gets thrown out the window as soon as you step inside. There’s only one desk that’s still on, and it’s his. The man startles as the door slams shut behind you, and he jumps out of his seat as you get closer. He hovers awkwardly behind his chair, tongue wetting his lips nervously as he sees your gaze flicker over to the cat-formed sticky notes pad he still has on his desk.
”Did you do it?” The words tumble out of your lips before you can zip them shut, and you groan inwardly at your lack of tact. Well, that’s one way to do it.
“I-I don’t know what you’re t-talking about,” The man stutters, his eyes flickering to the door behind you.
“The breach. I’ve seen you sneaking around our floor upstairs, and it just doesn’t feel like a coincidence that so many of our files suddenly ended up on the news yesterday,” You try to keep your voice level, desperately hoping that he can’t hear the slight tremor in it as you speak.
The man’s face grows white as you take a step closer, his throat bobbling as he grips the back of his chair tighter.
“N-no, I d-don’t have anything to d-do with it,” He vigorously shakes his head, his long hair flying side to side from the movement. Your eyes zero in on the weird pattern you noticed last time, and you feel like everything finally clicks into place as you realize what it is.
Scales.
This man must be a hybrid too. And he’s probably terrified of being found out. It’s pretty much unheard of that hybrids work along side humans without their owners, and he must’ve been putting himself into grave danger by showing up here every day for work.
“Oh okay, my mistake then,” You take a hesitant step back, the extra space seemingly calming the hybrid down.
You don’t believe him. If anything, you’re now more sure than ever that he has to have something to do with this, but the added uncertainty of not knowing what kind of hybrid he is, and what he’ll do if you corner him further isn’t worth it. You’ll have to come up with a better plan.
“I have some information on one of the files, but I see I was mistaken. My apologies,” You smile gently, hoping he’ll take the bait. That seems to make him pause, his eyes once again flickering over to something behind you before his tense posture suddenly relaxes.
“And what kind of information might that be, Y/n?” The deep voice behind your back nearly gives you a heart attack. You whip around to find Mr. Yang standing there with his arms crossed, an amused smile on his lips as he takes in your shocked expression.
“What?” You gape, dumbfounded at his sudden appearance.
“I don’t think Ki-won is the person you’re looking for,” Mr. Yang gestures to the hybrid.
“If you have anything you want to share, then you should do so with me. I’m the one who orchestrated the breach.”
You open and close your mouth, no words leaving your lips as you stare back at the older man. Even in your wildest dreams you would’ve never expected Mr. Yang to be behind it, not when he’s one of the few workers who’s been with the company for the longest time. Maybe you’re a little out of your depth.
“And I suppose you’re here because of your cat hybrid?” Scratch that. You’re definitely way out of your depth.
