Eniko was originally supposed to be, like, vaguely gay? Mostly because I knew that it played into his Tragic Backstory and he’s ostensibly fine with casual hookups but not emotional stuff. But the more I got into him and everything the more I realized he was a-spec, and it wasn’t a gender thing as much as it was a Being Open Around Other People thing. It really slotted a lot of stuff into place about him as a character and I’m pleased I figured it out

Okay, so here’s the thing about Elide—she has about 200 Imagine Dragons songs that fit her (actual math don’t look up how many songs they have), so it’s always a journey trying to choose one for her and this time I’m gonna go with this bad boy. This song encapsulates how Elide was raised on Lansing in a way that did not at all prepare her for how different things were off the island, and to pile on top of that her first experience with things off the island was almost being murdered by the Clandestine Providence for reasons unknown. It was an earthshattering wake-up call, and the darkness of the world only kept adding up and up as she went until all she could see around her were the terrible things that people had and were going to do. But in the end, she understands why her parents tried to shelter her (even though they couldn’t warn her about the cult bc of zero knowledge on it), and she has dedicated however much of her life it will take to clean up the mess that’s been made by those who commit evil acts.

I have too many Elide ships so we’re gonna go with the truest otp of them all and once again cry over the theme that fits them so damn perfectly. It is the epitome of everything that Elide has been telling Tyrus for years (that he’s already been through so much, he deserves to heal, he doesn’t have to be alone and he shouldn’t be alone, just let her in), and all that he does finally come to believe is true. Listening to the song, I always hear it from the perspective of Elide telling him all of these things as Joy sings, and Tyrus echoing them back to her to show that he’s listening and believing when John does. This song never fails to fuck me up with feelings for these two and I’m gonna go listen to it and cry after I finish this post tbh

JULIET — Horns by Bryce Fox

Now I could go and pick a song that shows Juliet’s softer side,, but how about instead we go with a song that suits her very well when it comes to her having a knack for wrapping men around her finger?? She’s too powerful. This particular song leans towards a Juliet/Luther sort of vibe, but in general it’s very good for how she goes full-on “I’m here to take what I want without mercy” mode and somehow still has these fuckin’ fools dropping to their knees for her. (They’re entirely valid for it and she knows it because she too would go weak in the knees watching a guy kill someone without hesitation to protect others, but let her tease them about it alright) She simply has a wild amount of control over the men in her life, and they seem to love it. It also lowkey references her fucked up heart and soul but don’t look into that, it’s her childhood trauma

So, considering I kinda cheated with the Juliet/Luther vibes in the song above here goes the other ship. I believe I’ve said before that this is their theme, and I’m sticking to it. Hozier’s explanation of it really does lay it out the best: “this song is about watching the world burn and realising that the person next to you is completely unfazed by it – and may have even been the one to start the fire themselves”. These two were made for each other, flaws and all, and would support the other in whatever decision they may choose to take, no matter how crazy it may seem to people that aren’t them. Also holds the very obvious theme of them being willing and able to put the smackdown on anyone who talks badly of the other, or sometimes even look at them the wrong way if they’re already feeling fighty. 

VICTORIA — Class Fight by Melanie Martinez

I shocked myself with how many songs I actually have for Victoria because I haven’t thought about her in a while, and this was more difficult than everyone else’s surprisingly. This song just reminds me so much of the dynamic with Ulrich: Victoria being in a vulnerable and fragile state that leaves her open to influence, and him taking it as the in he needs to push her further towards being one of the “bad” Westenras. Be ruthless, be efficient, if someone is trying to keep something that you want away from you then take it by any means necessary. Also to mention would be the line of and my one true love called me a monster. Victoria doesn’t have a true love really, but it’s a good nod towards her unwittingly pushing people away because of how she Is as a person and the negative influence encouraged by her father.

11. What are your character’s coping mechanisms? 

KEL — meditation. tea. long periods of reflection and then action, if action is possible, and working towards acceptance if it isn’t.

DAI — prayer, once, but he doesn’t do that so much any more. more like meditation, aimless but still calming. he likes to do things he can focus on as well: writing letters, laundry, mending, cooking. things he has control over. he tries to acknowledge things and let them go but it’s so much harder to do these days. the things are so much bigger. he doesn’t know where to put them down.

12. Do they like to suffer? Like to see other people suffering? 

KEL — no, and no.

DAI — no and absolutely not. he’d rather suffer, if there’s suffering to be had.

13. What does it take to make your character cry? 

KEL — mmmm honestly I’m not? sure? order 66 lol

DAI — apparently!! watching a party member get sucked into the void when you’re powerless to help them resist the pull! that’ll do it to you!!! (moments of unexpected connection, really? the things that connect people no matter time and place, the ones he feels deep in the meat of himself. he doesn’t cry easily, but sometimes things get to him)

26. What, in your character’s life, puts the most pressure on them? 

KEL — her responsibilities to the order, I think. she used to find it a burden but it’s become more of a steadying weight, the older she gets and the more she comes to understand what that responsibility means

DAI — definitely himself, by way of the expectations he assumes. he’s incredibly ready to take on responsibilities because he feels he should, and then beat himself up for not fulfilling them to the degree he thinks he should. it’s like an older sibling complex except he’s an only child

27.  What would be the worst way to die, in your character’s opinion?

KEL — betraying her morals, or abandoning/harming somebody in need. she’s not afraid of death, just afraid of failing herself and those who need her (leaving Ilar alone again would do it for her, tbh)

DAI — helpless, failing, in front of people who need him. I think he’d be more frightened to die alone, but at least if he were alone he wouldn’t be putting that on anyone else’s shoulders. (on the other hand, the thought of the party (izzy) coming across him too late—fuck, that’s brutal)

4.) who gets the most emotional seeing their children grow older?

Honestly??? Probably Tyrus. Elide gets plenty emotional and isn't afraid to hide it, but she's more excited than anything to see them grow and spends a lot of time encouraging the different directions they want to take. Meanwhile we have Papa Tyrus who wants them to stay young forever and never leave because he can't Protect them if they're not at Home in his Arms. It’s valid of him though, really, given all that he and Elide have seen and been through. They’re both the type who will be Sobbing at the first wedding for their kids, how embarrassing for them. (And every wedding thereafter, if there are any. They’re soft.)

9.) who is the most protective of their children? what makes them both shift into overprotective mode?

They're both very protective, as fighters are wont to be, but Tyrus definitely takes the cake here. The kids bringing dates home immediately launches Tyrus into overprotective mode, and for Elide it's when she hears another kid is giving theirs a tough time. Both of them go into protective overdrive the moment a child is hurt, be it physically or emotionally.

13. what is their name(s)? is there any significance to it? any nicknames they go by? or cute pet names their parents give them?

Oh boy, here we go with their hoard of children. Now listen,,, only some of them have justifications for their names in canon, because they were all chosen by me based on the fact that they sound different in Elide's accent depending on if she's happy or angry while addressing them all.

Sansa didn't get her name from anything overly significant, Elide (AKA I) just thought it sounded pretty and Tyrus agreed. The pet name she has from both of them is “flower”, taken from what Elide’s own mama has called her since she was little.

Dorian was named after the main character of the story that was always Elide’s favorite while growing up, that she in turn read to her kids often (which always made Dorian smile and giggle excitedly about his name being spoken). His siblings like to call him Dori, especially when they're teasing him. Hears “darling boy” and “little gunslinger” the most, even when he’s grown. 

Okay, so for Elaine, Elijah and Eloise, they’re all given names that start with ‘El’ as a nod to a Westenra tradition. And a bonus meaning comes with Elaine, who was named after Tyrus’s mother. (Elide suggested the name and they totally didn’t spend numerous minutes crying and holding each other over it, dunno what you’re implying.) Elaine's nickname is El, Elijah's is Eli, and Eloise's is Ellie. Elide and Tyrus like to call Elaine their "sentinel" because of how she'd watch over her siblings as they slept, and with her continued protective instincts as she grew older. Elide calls Elijah her "little tinkerer" because he fell in love with clockmaking after sitting with her and her own papa, Mikael, as they repaired the family clock. They called Eloise a "little fiend" while she was younger because of how absolutely Wild she was, always running around and bumping into things causing chaos. Changed into “acrobat” at some point because of her insane stunts.

Alexandra was a funny little case, because they’d had the name Alexander chosen for a baby boy but surprise!! She came along, so they did a small alteration there. Her middle name Vina has meaning tho. Vina was a Harker ancestor of Elide's, a pirate queen who helped found the Lansing archipelago! Her nickname is Alexa from pretty much everyone. Greer and Cormac like to call her Lexi on occasion. Elide and Tyrus called her their "bard" because of her fascination for tales and how she started reading along with them for bedtime stories, then eventually started telling her own to them. “Songbird” is another one!! Because she likes to hum or sing often.

Greer and Cormac have no significance, Tyrus just came up with the name Greer and Elide loved it. Cormac's nickname is Cormie. Aside from "papa's girl" and "mama's boy", they're sometimes referred to as the “koalas” because of how Greer clings to papa and Cormac to mama. 

Julian might be named after a Westenra or Rhogar ancestor, maybe, idk the name is just cute and I liked it. He has two nicknames, Julie and Jules. Elide likes to call him her “little inquisitor” because of how he observes and then rattles off a whole list of questions, hungry for that Knowledge.
