CONCERT REPORT :D
so, i saw sim a japanese reggae metal band (i know) with two full screamo/metal bands opening and then one… idk bmth adjacent band opening???
my thoughts and experiences in no particular order
got stuck in line surrounded by Dudes and was like oh god oh no i’m gonna have no one to talk to and im gonna be here 3+ hours
met an Experiencer crowdsurfer dude who was like IM GONNA CROWD SURF SO HARD and i was like right on!!! go my dude!! and then i turned my head for a second and he disappeared
i was left with a tiny 20 year old boy who reminded me of an anxious lap dog and i was like well there’s no cute gay girls near me to talk to so i guess ill take you under my wing and made sure to drag him far up in the crowd with me (got him to third row)
every one in line was in attack on titan merch cause this band did ONE AOT song
pure evil vibes but i did find a girl with a kyuubi keychain (naruto) and complimented her on her good taste
two kids were in front of me in levi and ??? the brunette with the ponytail cosplay and they were SOOOOO scared of the screamo SOOOOO scared and so dead for every band like if you don’t fucking JUMP and SCREAM im gonna kill you???
emo/bmth adjacent band covered kyptonte by three doors down and it was so fun we all sang along
playlist between shows was soooo fun miku, george michael, rickroll… we all sang along to stuff like america FUCK YEAH and miss murder… i alone sang along to perfume
i really really really enjoy hardcore metal/screamo live but it’s so miserable to listen to studio versions??? is this anyone else
two girls left after the emo band went and gave me their spot which put me into the CROWD SURFER ZONE and i actually got tossed around by the crowd so badly i ended up dead center under even more crowd surfers and i could barely move and it was SO FUN
all of my recordings are just “here’s a perfect view of the lead singer, now it’s shaking because we’re all dancing, and now my camera and my face are pressed into a security guards tummy and pecs as he catches five surfers in a row” ANS THAYS SO FUNNT
i don’t even think any of the music tonight was like… good??! or liek it’s FINE but it’s cringe AND YET
the crowd was so clocked in and craaaaazy??? i’m covered in sweat that ain’t even mine we were all packed like sardines and flailing
and it’s more thrilling than kingda ka or the superman at six flags
i’m so alive
my feet are going to fall off cause i wore wedged boots m
i was thrown by the crowd so far i was completely separated from my shaking chihuahua boy i hope he’s alright he was so convinced he could get his merch shirt signed
even though i kept explaining throwing it on stage would just mean they kept his shirt
i hope he didn’t throw it lmao
woooo

Libby eAudiobook Spotlight: 2023 Debut Authors
Amazing Grace Adams by Fran Littlewood (read by Claire Skinner)
Grace Adams gave birth, blinked, and now suddenly she is forty-five, perimenopausal and stalled - the unhappiest age you can be, according to the Guardian. And today she’s really losing it. Stuck in traffic, she finally has had enough. To the astonishment of everyone, Grace gets out of her car and simply walks away.
Grace sets off across London, armed with a £200 cake, to win back her estranged teenage daughter on her sixteenth birthday. Because today is the day she’ll remind her daughter that no matter how far we fall, we can always get back up again. Because Grace Adams used to be amazing. Her husband thought so. Her daughter thought so. Even Grace thought so. But everyone seems to have forgotten. Grace is about to remind them... and, most important, remind herself.
Banyan Moon by Thao Thai (read by Cindy Kay)
When Ann Tran gets the call that her fiercely beloved grandmother, Minh, has passed away, her life is already at a crossroads. In the years since she’s last seen Minh, Ann has built a seemingly perfect life - a beautiful lake house, a charming professor boyfriend, and invites to elegant parties that bubble over with champagne and good taste - but it all crumbles with one positive pregnancy test. With both her relationship and carefully planned future now in question, Ann returns home to Florida to face her estranged mother, Huơng.
Back in Florida, Huơng is simultaneously mourning her mother and resenting her for having the relationship with Ann that she never did. Then Ann and Huơng learn that Minh has left them both the Banyan House, the crumbling old manor that was Ann’s childhood home, in all its strange, Gothic glory. Under the same roof for the first time in years, mother and daughter must face the simmering questions of their past and their uncertain futures, while trying to rebuild their relationship without the one person who’s always held them together.
How to Say Babylon by Safiya Sinclair (read by Safiya Sinclair)
Throughout her childhood, Safiya Sinclair’s father, a volatile reggae musician and militant adherent to a strict sect of Rastafari, became obsessed with her purity, in particular, with the threat of what Rastas call Babylon, the immoral and corrupting influences of the Western world outside their home. He worried that womanhood would make Safiya and her sisters morally weak and impure, and believed a woman’s highest virtue was her obedience.
In an effort to keep Babylon outside the gate, he forbade almost everything. In place of pants, the women in her family were made to wear long skirts and dresses to cover their arms and legs, head wraps to cover their hair, no make-up, no jewelry, no opinions, no friends. Safiya’s mother, while loyal to her father, nonetheless gave Safiya and her siblings the gift of books, including poetry, to which Safiya latched on for dear life. And as Safiya watched her mother struggle voicelessly for years under housework and the rigidity of her father’s beliefs, she increasingly used her education as a sharp tool with which to find her voice and break free. Inevitably, with her rebellion comes clashes with her father, whose rage and paranoia explodes in increasing violence. As Safiya’s voice grows, lyrically and poetically, a collision course is set between them.
The Collected Regrets of Clover by Mikki Brammer (read by Jennifer Pickens)
What’s the point of giving someone a beautiful death if you can’t give yourself a beautiful life?
From the day she watched her kindergarten teacher drop dead during a dramatic telling of Peter Rabbit, Clover Brooks has felt a stronger connection with the dying than she has with the living. After the beloved grandfather who raised her dies alone while she is traveling, Clover becomes a death doula in New York City, dedicating her life to ushering people peacefully through their end-of-life process.
Clover spends so much time with the dying that she has no life of her own, until the final wishes of a feisty old woman send Clover on a trip across the country to uncover a forgotten love story - and perhaps, her own happy ending. As she finds herself struggling to navigate the uncharted roads of romance and friendship, Clover is forced to examine what she really wants, and whether she’ll have the courage to go after it.

Hazafele menet a parton tekertünk hosszan, rózsaszínbe borult a táj a naplementétől. Este kicsit dolgoztunk, aztán a családommal telefonáltam, miközben egy összenyomott arcú, perzsa macska dagasztott kitartóan a ölemben.

Chiang Mai, the "Rose of the North," is a captivating city in Thailand that enthralls travelers with its rich cultural heritage, stunning natural beauty, and laid-back charm. This vibrant city serves as the perfect base for exploring northern Thailand's wonders, offering a delightful mix of ancient temples, bustling markets, and exciting adventures. But beyond the city walls, a hidden gem awaits – Pai, a small town nestled amidst rolling hills and lush valleys, beckons with its bohemian vibe and unique experiences. So, follow this guide as we delve into the must-sees of Chiang Mai and the must-dos in Pai, crafting your perfect itinerary for an unforgettable northern Thailand adventure.
Chiang Mai Travel Guide:
Start your Chiang Mai adventure by exploring its magnificent temples. Wat Phra Doi Suthep, perched atop Doi Suthep mountain, offers panoramic views of the city and houses a revered Buddha relic. Immerse yourself in the serene atmosphere of Wat Chiang Man, the city's oldest temple, and marvel at its intricate Lanna architecture. For a unique experience, visit Wat Phra That Doi Kham, a temple complex adorned with glittering white elephants.
Beyond temples, Chiang Mai boasts vibrant markets that are a feast for the senses. Wander through the sprawling Saturday Night Walking Street Market, a haven for handicrafts, souvenirs, and delicious street food. Explore the Warorot Market, a bustling daytime market where you can find everything from fresh produce to clothing and local spices. For a touch of history, head to the Sunday Walking Street Market, held within the historic walled city, and browse through antiques and local crafts.
Things to Do in Pai:
After soaking up the cultural richness of Chiang Mai, take a day trip or extend your stay in Pai, a haven for nature lovers and free spirits. Nestled amidst breathtaking scenery, Pai offers a slower pace of life compared to Chiang Mai. Rent a motorbike and explore the surrounding countryside, stopping at cascading waterfalls like Pai Waterfall or the scenic viewpoint at Pai Canyon.
For the adventurous soul, Pai offers exciting activities like white water rafting on the Pai River or ziplining through the lush jungles. Challenge yourself with a challenging trek to Pai Caves, a network of limestone caves adorned with stalactites and stalagmites. Embrace the bohemian spirit of Pai by taking a yoga class or learning about traditional Thai massage techniques.
In the evenings, Pai's vibrant night market comes alive with delicious street food stalls and local handicrafts. Sample the local specialty, Khao Soi, a flavorful curry noodle dish, or indulge in fresh fruit shakes. Head to one of Pai's many reggae bars and enjoy live music under the starry sky.
Planning Your Trip:
Chiang Mai is well-connected by air and train from Bangkok and other major cities in Thailand. Pai is a two-hour drive from Chiang Mai, and several affordable transportation options are available, including minivans and motorbikes. The best time to visit Chiang Mai and Pai is during the cool and dry season, from November to April.
A Glimpse into Northern Thailand's Soul:
Chiang Mai and Pai offer a captivating glimpse into the soul of northern Thailand. From the cultural treasures of Chiang Mai to the laid-back charm of Pai, this region promises an unforgettable experience. So, pack your bags, embrace the warmth of northern Thai hospitality, and embark on your own adventure through this captivating corner of Thailand.

✨ Reflecting on the Past Year:
What were your three most significant moments of the past year?
Definitely for me it was: Mighty Crown Final Reggae Festival My guy friend sharing a hotel room with me and nothing happening Graduation
2. What lessons did you learn in the last year?
Communication is important in every friendship - just because you can personally go through gaps without speaking to someone without a friendship decay doesn't mean unanswered messages and lack of likes on posts isn't personal from their side.
Stop stressing over things that aren't in alignment with your ultimate purpose. Side quests can be helpful in getting you there but don't let others take priority over your goals.
Binge-consumption is normalised in society. Recognise it when it happens and avoid it at all costs.
Just because other people see a committed relationship as The Goal doesn't mean you should feel shame for enjoying being single. It doesn't make you a statistic, it doesn't mean you're 'broken', it doesn't mean you can't change your mind later.
3. Which achievements are you most proud of from the past year?
Graduation Surviving a whole year in Japan Reporting my stalker once again
✨ Gratitude:
What are you most thankful for as you look back over the past year?
The scholarships I earned that I managed well.
2. Who made the biggest impact on your life last year, and why?
One of my friends who I met in Japan. It sounds cheesy af but he showed me what I needed in a friendship that I'd never gotten at any other point in my life.
✨ Setting Goals and Intentions:
What are your top three goals for the New Year?
Lose the weight Get a job Get another international opportunity
2. How do you plan to step out of your comfort zone this year?
By fixing the habits I've gained that have contributed to my lack of energy and weight gain.
3. What new skills or hobbies would you like to explore?
Co-ordination through dancing and yoga
✨ Personal Growth:
How do you want to grow personally in the coming year?
I want to become more confident in using my body for things that benefit me. I abuse my body all the time in the form of physical labour, booze and junk food. I don't stick to skin care routines and neglect my looks if I'm not going anywhere. When I had motives nearly every day, I was permanently using cocoa butter and keeping myself fresh between the sports and clubbing. Now, I don't bother as much and I want to change that.
2. What daily habits do you want to cultivate or change?
Shower, shave, moisturise every day. No more showers and not using lotions if I'm indoors.
Exercise routines.
Any type of routine other than job searching.
✨ Challenges:
What challenges from the past year are you still dealing with, and how do you plan to overcome them?
At current, I've done well to curb most of my unhealthy habits since I recognised them last month. But I still have work to do with my lack of exercise now that I'm not walking everywhere.
I want to do more home workouts and actually travel to campus for Muay Thai twice a week.
2. What fears or obstacles do you want to conquer this year?
There's probably a fear of regaining my health only to lose it again. I don't ever want my effort to be in vain like it was during my second year of university.
✨ Future:
What are you most looking forward to in the New Year?
Starting a new job
2. How do you envision your life one year from now?
I'd better be focusing on assignment deadlines in the New Year lol
✨ Creative:
Write a letter to your future self, describing your hopes and expectations for the year.
Dear future me,
I hope that you've finally rediscovered that feeling of loving being in your body. And I don't just mean looking good. I mean finally being able to move your hips without feeling stodgy and in pain from inflammation and a lack of exercise. You're capable of undoing the damage your upbringing brought upon you. It's not shameful to learn how to move your body to feel less awkward. You've always wanted to learn to dance.
Hopefully, your education is going in the direction you wish for too. Data science and law... Those are two areas you are interested in and they can both take you far. Focus on enjoyment in the subject and don't stress about 'doing things right' for the time being.
2. Create a vision board in your journal for the New Year.
I already did this - it's my screensaver lol.
✨ Relationships:
How do you wish to strengthen your relationships this year?
By having less of them and caring less about them. Treat friends more like how you treat men - if they wanted to they would.
2. Are there new connections or communities you wish to be part of?
Not really. Although I would like to meet new legals when I'm ready.
✨ Health and Wellness:
What are your health goals for the year?
Lose weight, get stronger, work on my flexibility in my hips.
2. How do you plan to take care of your mental and physical well-being?
By cutting the dead weight off - kilos and relationships. More focus on things that matter only to me instead of this self-sacrificial desire to succeed in the eyes of others.
✨ Experiences:
What new experiences do you want to have this year?
I want to go back to the Caribbean, find another physical hobby, attend at least a month's worth of Muay Thai sessions without missing one, get a new job that I enjoy, take myself to a retreat.
2. Is there a place you wish to visit or an adventure you’re dreaming of?
Jamaica and a retreat in the middle of nowhere.
Journal Prompts To Welcome The New Year 🤍✨

RIP George Oban obituary by Dave Hucker. Very sad to report the death of local legend and founder member of Aswad, bass player George Oban. Aswad formed in 1975, but George left in 1979, to continue his subtle but melodic tough bass playing on a multitude of records and for various artists operating in a wide area of music - reggae, lovers rock, rock and experimental. After leaving Aswad he formed a band called Motion, he then was a mainstay of Adrian Sherwood’s On-U Sound label, recording with New Age Steppers, Dub Syndicate, African Head Charge. Other reggae artists he recorded with included Lee Scratch Perry and Burning Spear. His playing also graced recordings from local journo turned musician Vivien Goldman and her band Chantage, Bristol’s Mark Stewart and the Maffia, artist Judy Nylon and Patti Paladin. One of his last recordings, he played on a new upcoming album from reggae star Horace Andy. A true gentleman and very sweet person he will be missed greatly. I used to enjoy bumping into him on the street and having a catch up.
George Oban recalled during Bob Marley and the Wailers’ ‘Exodus’ sessions, ‘Basing Street was a home from home. I was there when Carl Peterson, Bro’ Bob Marley and Blackwell was mixing ‘Exodus’. I ask Blackwell for a spliff from his Thai sticks, and when he refused Bob said, “Give the yout a spliff.” It was like a club house at times. I recorded bass with the Royal Rass, who gave me two hours at the end of his session, and we - Drummie Tony Robinson, Mike Campbell and Ann Howard who sang ‘No Man is an Island Motion’, we were like the SAS, in and out in the allotted time. What’s on the vinyl is the monitor mix, and the second Aswad album was recorded there. Lucky Gordon would cook for the Wailers and Blackwell, Bob had his own chef.’ During the 1976 Carnival (or 77?) George said they had a mini-stage set up on Basing Street outside the Island studios, when ‘we could hear this roar coming from Acklam Road - the start of the riots - so we picked up all the gear and went to the Metro club, set up our gear and started to do the set - gig again, when we look in the audience it was Bob, Family Man and Carlton Barrett, talk about bricking it.’
