okay okay okay
if jack picard-crusher and sidney laforge had a kid (a picard-crusher-laforge) and (if only!) thaddeus troi-riker was alive and had a kid with soji asha soong (a troi-riker-soong) and if their two kids had a kid, then we would have the Ultimate TNG Kid:
a picard-crusher-laforge-troi-riker-soong.

Deanna taking away Will's grief after their son's death
I just wrote a short fic about this from Deanna's perspective that I posted on Ao3, but can we talk about this?
When I first read the interview about Deanna/Will's estrangement, I got the sense that Will isolated himself from Deanna so she wouldn't feel his pain. Will even said on the show "Deanna feels everything" So, I'm like "okay, he wanted to keep her from feeling his pain.' and that led to problems between them.
But per the conversation on the Shrike, that's not what happened. Deanna took his pain away. So, she basically used her empathic powers, and their psychic bond, to manipulate his feelings. Yes, I'm sure she was doing it for his own good, but still, it's such a total violation.
Not only was what she did completely unethical from a counseling standpoint, she knows what it's like to have someone inside her head manipulating her emotions--Ambassador Alkar did it to her in "Man of the People"
Frankly, I like my idea of what caused the rift a lot better. I think Will avoiding Deanna is more plausible, plus it's relatable. It makes Will sympathetic. But to have Deanna directly use her empathic abilities, it has her crossing a line that shouldn't be crossed.
Unfortunately, that's what the show gave us. I wished they hadn't, but I'm not about to villainize Deanna. Sometimes grief causes people to do things they normally wouldn't. She obviously was in pain herself and it must have hurt to know Will was in pain also.
So, I guess she let her grief cloud her judgement.

this is what the people want
nutrek writers b like 'if we dont find someone to oppress RIGHT NOW nobody is gonna watch star trek' which fr isnt the case bc if star trek: picard had been about picards life on the vineyard and literally did nothing but be a story about him making the most delicious wines and characters from other treks occasionally visiting him i would have watched the whole damn thing multiple times over

Ok, so that episode of Picard was a lot.
But I think the story they're trying to tell us is one about grief. It has always been about grief for Data. The first season of Picard underscored that, and we are getting the bigger picture of how each character has been changed by it. Data's sacrifice fractured this family, but it also told us that given the chance they would have each taken his place, and I think that's what they all grapple with when they return.
It makes total sense to me that Thad and Jack were born back-to-back after Data's death, and in that timeframe, none of these characters have processed their loss. In the aftermath, Picard threw himself into life-threatening situations that didn't inspire a lot of faith in Beverly, certainly when her whole life has been painted by loss and abandonment. Was she absolutely wrong for taking that choice away from him? Yes. I don't think Beverly thought herself big enough to ask Picard to drastically change his life to fit around her and this baby. But she could do it for Jack, she can give up everything to protect him. Grief doesn't always sound rational or feel right to other people.
The end of the episode shows us exactly why Picard's stand-your-ground and fight mentality frightens them all. For Troi and Riker and Beverly and I'm sure Geordi, the emotional stakes were too high after Data. When Thad got sick, Riker and Troi left Starfleet. When Beverly and Jack were being hunted they ran. It takes Picard seventeen seconds to get to sickbay and watch Beverly revive Jack to fully understand why a parent would grab their children and run when danger is knocking on their door. The Next Generation has always been a story about legacy, of course, they're going to tell one more for its title character. Just as the story has weaved through Alexander, Thad, and Kestra. Just as we know Dahj and Soji and Elnor. We will know Sydney and Alandra. Just as it has always been about Wesley. This too is about Jack Crusher. It has always been about family.

the way will riker must be thinking, on top of everything else, that his friend's daughter is aboard the titan, and if he fails, if he falters, he'll be subjecting geordi to the same pain he's been carrying since thad died.

Borrowed Time (WIP Ask game)
ohhh boy this behemoth will never see the light of day but I'm so happy you asked about this one bc as complicated as it is I love thinking and talking about it lol
so this was meant to be a fix-it for the ending of the star trek novelverse. some important background info: the coda trilogy wrapped up the novelverse basically by retroactively wiping that timeline from existence to avert a threat to the entire multiverse, because apparently with all the new shows and tie-in novels people thought it would be too confusing to also keep the novelverse books going. well that made me pissed as hell so I wrote this short fic, The Forgotten Splinter, bringing back one of my favorite and criminally underused characters, Riker and Troi's daughter Tasha, and Borrowed Time was meant to be a follow up to that.
I have a partial outline complete with chapter titles and extensive notes on what I wanted to happen, but at some point the idea just got too complicated and overwhelming for me to contemplate lol. the short of it is that Tasha gets her memories back from the First Splinter Timeline as well as the other timeline branches that were erased, and she and the gang work together to restore that timeline while also eliminating the threat from the Devidians.
I ended up not writing very much of it except for a list of chapter titles (in rough chronological order) and one passage:
Weddings and Funerals
Sole Survivor
The Reflecting Game
Unsung Heroes
After the Silence
Out of the Silent Wormhole
We Seek the Paradox
What's Good for the Goose
Sound and Fury
More than Memory
There but for the Grace of God
Hail Mary Ex-Machina
Roll for Initiative
The Thousandth Knife
When the Dealing's Done
“The First Splinter Timeline.” Tasha laughed bitterly. “You have no idea what we did for you. What we sacrificed… and this timeline? This timeline is shit! Your version of the Federation literally banned an entire class of life-forms, and didn’t even bother to make an exception when the child of two Starfleet heroes’ life was at stake!” The Troi-Rikers visibly blanched. “And you!” Tasha exclaimed, swiveling toward Picard. “You’re a bloody admiral! Whatever happened to ‘don’t let them promote you, don’t let them transfer you, don’t let them do anything that takes you off the bridge of that ship, because while you’re there, you can make a difference’?” She paused to take a deep breath. “And why didn’t you tell Beverly you love her? She wanted you to go after her, fight for her, not let her go!” Picard was stunned speechless. Tasha continued her rant unabated. “Our timeline wasn’t perfect, but it was better than this! What kind of multiverse is this, where the timeline in which things go mostly right has to be erased from causation, while this shit timeline with all the unnecessary angst and dramatic tension gets to live on? It’s not fair, dammit!” By this point Tasha was nearly hysterical, and the tears poured in a seemingly endless flood down her cheeks. The multiple timelines’ worth of trauma she had been suppressing for six years had finally burst forth from the dam of her subconscious. Deanna’s soul cried out in pure and complete empathy. She had entertained similar thoughts ever since Thad’s diagnosis. Why did their timeline have to be the one where he died? The whole thing had made absolutely no sense, as if whoever was writing the story of their lives got a kick out of torturing their characters.
I came up with this after Picard season one aired but before two and three, so I didn't incorporate any of that into this idea lol, anyway I had some vague notion that this would be the first installment of an epic trilogy, but almost no one read my novelverse fic when I was actively writing and posting about it so I don't really have much motivation to make it happen

Another possibility:
The Titan crew tries to do this with Will and Deanna. They get Thad and Kestra in on it.
The crew conspires with their captain and counselor’s children.
The Bluey smoochy-kiss episode, but it’s Sabine and Ezra and Zeb trying to get Kanan and Hera to kiss.

Here’s a quick edit for how they could have avoided making Deanna the nagging mother telling Riker to come home to his kid in Picard S3E3:
Picard is visiting the Troi-Riker’s. Riker tells him the story while holding Thad in his arms. It’s all really heartfelt, same dialogue. Then pan over to Deanna with a bottle of whisky “yeah I’m sure that 17 seconds was really painful while I was in labour.” She takes back a shot without wincing. “Finally I can drink again”
-
Sirtis is a pro at humour, she still gets the beat about wanting whisky and we get shown Riker as a father rather than told about it. The room could even still be dark and moody like they love by having Thad taking a nap in a dark room.

Ranted about this a ton on Twitter already but I’m so hoping the Thad & Jack parallels aren’t going to be strictly used to explore the Riker & Picard relationship at the expense of Deanna & Beverly. Terry has said we’re going to get the former, but he has also mentioned he wanted to explore what losing Wesley would do to Beverly as a mother.
Despite the icky problems with TNG’s “The Child”, I hate that Beverly wasn’t there to relate to Deanna as a parent. You have the parallel of two single mothers struggling to parent firstborn children with special qualities beyond their understanding, who they must inevitably relinquish to a higher cosmic power.
And then years later to both have second sons, both facing some kind of peril that threatens their lives, and for both mothers to leave Starfleet and try to make a life somewhere new in the hopes of hanging on to this child as long as possible.
Will and Picard both bonded with Ian and Wesley in their own way, but that added dimension of having already experienced the loss of one child (especially when that loss isn’t as straightforward as the natural death of a mortal child) and then having to face it again and what desperation that would cause is so interesting, and I don’t think we’ll get to see Marina and Gates explore it fully. :(

This is Episode 7 of Season 1. I heard Riker and Troi would appear in this show back when it was airing, but that didn't hold much appeal to me. Of course they'd pepper this thing with as many guest stars and cameos as possible. But now that I'm sitting through this series, now that I'm astonished by how breathtakingly awful it is, this visit to the Troi-Riker homestead is like finding water in the desert.
(There's this old legend, more of a fairy tale, really, about a magical lake, one that appears and disappears in different places. This "roaming lake" is said to reveal itself to weary travelers and others in need of respite. I never expected it to follow me here, but I wonder...)
Will and Deanna's basic competence as cool TV characters allows them to size of the plot of the last six episodes in record time. They also aren't salty, bitter assholes like everyone else in 2399 or whatever year this is supposed to be. There's some tragedy in their past, as one of their children died from an incurable disease, but it's a believable, genuine kind of sadness, and they don't allow it to define them.
Compare this to Rios, the dull as dirt pilot Picard hired in Episode 3. The dude has barely done anything in this show except act sullen and read a book that might as well have printed on the cover "THIS IS A BOOK THAT SULLEN PEOPLE READ" He smokes cigars like that's his personality, and I guess he's right because I sure can't think of anything else to say about him. As characters, Riker and Troi run laps around him. They're engaged in the story, understand the situation quickly, and provide insight and assistance. Hell, their daughter, Kestra, is a way cooler character than Rios. Hell, their son Thaddeus is a cooler character than Rios, and he's not even in this show because he died before it takes place. Kid invented 12 languages for his fictional homeworld. Most people make their own OC's, and Thad's making original planets. Respect.
This episode still sucks, don't get me wrong. It's like the Troi-Riker appearance was designed to taunt me with hints of what a good TNG-emeritus show might resemble if they had actually made one. There's a moment where it seems like Riker and Picard are gonna tell Soji all about how much they loved serving with her cool robot dad, but it never actually manifests. Most of the rest of the visit is spent getting Picard to pull his head out of his ass, and reminding everyone that Soji is having an identity crisis, because apparently someone might have forgotten.
The rest of the episode is devoted to the usual bullshit. The Romulan spies do cheap Star Wars action stuff with Elnor, Jurati coughs up various fluids, and they almost provide some context for Raffi's whole deal, but then they cut away to some other shit. It's just weak, weak stuff.
