HmmCan I Get A Ganfic Of This Ship I Had In Mind? Of TFP Soundwave and a OC Of Mine. Her Original Name Eliah Lance. Or Eli For Short. She Had Lost her of her legs and her left arm from a brutal forest fire and Soundwave saw her and rescued her. And her purpose is to serve under the Con's will and being Soundwave's partner named "Screendeer". Can You Make That Happen Please? ((I never get any fanfics qmq))
So this is my first try at writing someone's OC, so it might not be very good. I don't know if I want to write anymore OC stuff, but it can be discussed.
The first time Soundwave saw her was in the middle of a forest fire he was flying over. He just hovered over the burning, almost unbearably hot forest for a while.
“She must already be dead” Soundwave thought, but something drew him to retrieve her body. If she was alive maybe she could be useful.
The next days she drifted in and out of consciousness. Someone was putting her back together and the pain was almost unbearable, and some moments, she thought for sure she would die. She wanted to scream and cry but nothing would come out.
When she finally woke up, she felt odd, her body felt odd. When she tried to move her left arm there was a metallic scraping sound against the surface she was laying on. Same with both her legs. It felt like she didn't have full control of her body.
"You're finally awake" a distorted voice said, it sounded like a partially broken recording.
"Where the hell am I?" Eli groaned, her throat feeling raspy, like it was made of sandpaper. She looked around and saw a giant purple robot standing by the door to the room, the whole room looked weird.
"You are on board of a Decepticon warship" the voice answered, it sounded different now, like the speaker wasn't quite the same, even though the voice clearly came from the purple robot now standing in front of her, it was like the lines it spoke were pieced together from multiple sources.
Eli sat up, supporting herself with her right arm and bringing her left to to touch her face, but when she did she flinched back. The fingers that touched her face were cold and metallic.
"Wha-what?" she muttered, and looked at her hand.
Eli looked at her hand, it was mechanical and clawed, made of cold hard metal. The transition from flesh to metal looked grotesque.
"What did you do to me?" she asked.
"We saved your life human and now, you owe us"
The next weeks were spent recovering and getting used to her new body and situation. She was trapped in a ginormous spaceship with an army of giant alien robots. She had also learned the name of the decepticon who had been there when she woke up, his name Soundwave and she couldn't help but fall for him, hard.
Eli intrigued Soundwave from the moment he saw her in that burning forest, helpless and dying. There was something about her, something that drew Soundwave to her, and it never quite left him alone. He watched her as she struggled with her new limbs and quite honestly with her whole new existence. Soundwave wasn’t sure what interested him so much about her, but he couldn’t stay away from Eli. Eventually the two became partners and Eli was bestowed the name Screendeer.
Even though Eli still had phantom pains in her lost limbs, it was nothing she couldn’t work through with Soundwave’s help.
“Are-you-in-pain?” he asked, putting together the sentence from his recordings.
“It isn’t that bad, I just need to adjust my legs again”
Soundwave didn’t say anything more, he just nodded in acknowledgement, and caressed Eli’s back with one of his digits. In moments like these, he wondered how much he would’ve missed if he hadn’t saved her from the forest fire. It hurt his spark to think he would’ve never known his Eli, his Screendeer, his love.

________________________________________________________________
Last week I read another one of @sagestreet 's wonderful metas. Darth Vader ('Sherlock')  In my comment I refered to the Klingons and the Cowboys in black hats, who are also mentioned in that scene in TFP. If 'Darth Vader' is of meaning (which I'm convinced of) then the Klingons and the Cowboys with the black hats are most likely of meaning too. This thought wouldn't leave my head. Until I remembered having already seen a Klingon wearing a black hat .... Lieutenant Commander Worf from the starship Enterprise. I rewatched the episode where this occurs and now I'm a bit blown away.
Some keywords ...
Klingons - black hats - fathers and sons - the android who desires to feel emotions - positronic brain malfunction - empath in the role of the mysterious stranger - the Wild West - a son in prison - a son abducted - crossdressing - inside a created story - suddenly it's not a game anymore - character shifting - reluctantly wearing a hat to play a role - no, no, no, this is too easy - Spot the cat ....
Favourite Quote: Data when asked about Geordi's slowly growíng beard:
"As is the case with many natural growth processes, it is difficult to envision the end product based on an intermediate stage."
In case you are interested, feel free to engage in Star Trek TNG, Season 6, Episode 8:
A Fistful of Datas
________________________________________________________________
About Lieutenant Commander Data
Data is an android - a machine - who desires nothing more than to become human one day and to experience emotions. Data is also a great admirer of Sherlock Holmes. Especially of his ability to solve mysteries by careful examination of the available evidence. He loves to quote Holmes (x  x) and he played that character on the holodeck (x) However, Sherlock Holmes doesn't feature in this episode .... but maybe the episode features in Sherlock BBC. Unless, of course, it's just coincidence ...
.
A sheduled appointment is postponed for two days. Many members of the Enterprise are taking advantage of the delay to pursue their own projects.
Tumblr media
La Forge and Data get the permission to experiment on a new interface between Data’s positronic brain and the ship’s computer. This would allow Data to act as an emergency backup in the event of a ship-wide systems failure. Soon it turns out that this experiment causes some computer problems. Parts of the ship’s computer get altered and are replaced by Data’s personal programming. Systems affected by the malfunction are the library, the replicator selection and the recreational programming ... the holodeck. Nothing critical, it would seem.
As a result ….
a piece of Mozart changes to Dvorak’s The Slavonic Dances, because Data had been analysing the collected works of Czech composer Antonin Dvorak.
a theatre play is replaced by Data’s poem 'Ode to Spot’, dedicated to his cat.
the replicators on some decks are producing nothing but the cat food Data had been formulating for Spot. (X)
an interaction between Data’s personal programming and the programming of  the holodeck occurs. It replaces parts of Data’s memory structures with the files that are currently activated. Files related to the nineteenth century American West. Suddenly Data's behaviour changes and he starts talking like someone out of that time, using terms like ... 'Howdy, Commander' ... 'You got it, partner' ... 'Vamoose, you little varmint' ... 'Commander. You just sit tight. We'll have this all fixed up in time for supper'

About Lieutenant Commander Worf and his son Alexander
The relationship between father and son is a difficult one. Alexander was raised by his mother K'Ehleyr, a half-human half-klingon embassador of the Klingon Empire. Worf, an orphan himself and raised by humans on Earth, didn’t know for years about the existance of his son. Soon after K'Ehleyr revealed the truth to Worf she got killed. Worf acknowleded his son but sent him away to Earth to be raised by his own former foster parents. Some time later Alexander is brought back to the Enterprise. Worf learns that there are difficulies, problems with adjusting, that his adoptive parents feel too old for the challenge to deal once again wth a Klingon child … in short, Alexander needs his father. At first Worf doesn’t feel ready nor competent enough to deal with the new situation. He decides to send Alexander away again. This time to a Klingon school. Then he reconsiders the decision and both - father and son - agree to face their relationship problems together. This is why - one day - Alexander programmes an adventurous play on the holodeck which he can take on together with his father …. who is not very enthusiastic about it.

Deadwood. Nineteenth century Earth. The Ancient West
WORF: What is our function here? ALEXANDER: You’re the Sheriff and I’m the deputy. WORF: So, we are in law enforcement. ALEXANDER: Right.
And so the programme starts like many Western stories …. a little town under a glaring sun ... a sheriff and his deputy are walking slowly down a deserted main street.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The sound of a gunshot from the saloon ... a man on the piano ... poker players ... a mysterious stranger ... some bad guys who aren’t really a match for sheriff Worf. Alexander doesn't like it.
ALEXANDER: No, no, no. Computer, freeze programme. WORF: What is wrong? ALEXANDER: That was too easy. It has to be harder to beat the bad guys. Otherwise, it’s no fun. Computer, increase programme difficulty to level four. Go back to where my father and I first walked into the saloon. Come on, Father.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alexander and Worf leave the saloon and the programme starts once more. This time the bad guys are clearly more dangerous and not as easy to subdue. The owner of the saloon is a woman called Annie.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Unexpected for Worf - not for Alexander - they receive help from a woman with a gun. She is DeannaTroi, who serves as  ship’s councelor aboard the Enterprise. As a half-Betazoid, Deanna Troi is capable of extra-sensory empathy. Alexander asked her to join them because Counsellor Troi loves Western stories.
TROI: My father used to read me stories from the Ancient West when I was a little girl. I must admit, I always wanted to play the part of the mysterious stranger.
Tumblr media
Eli Hollander, the bad guy, gets arrested. Sheriff Worf, deputy Alexander and Durango, the mysterious stranger, lock him up in the prison cell. As it turns out, Eli Hollander has a dad as well.
ELI: Frankly, I don’t think I’ll be around here that long. Not after my old man hears about this. WORF: What old man are you referring to? ELI: My pa. When he breaks me out of this tin can, the gravedigger’ll be working overtime.
At this point things start getting out of hand because of the experiment Data and La Forge are cónducteding. Deputy Alexander goes missing.
Tumblr media
In the saloon sheriff Worf meets Frank Hollander, Eli’s dad, and learns that the man has abducted his deputy. Most alarming is the fact that Frank Hollander looks like Commander Data.
DATA-FRANK: I ain’t in the mood for games, Sheriff.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And indeed, this isn’t a game anymore. The holodeck safeguards are out of order. Worf gets shot in the arm and is actually injured. They are in trouble and it gets worse. When Worf comes back to the prison, Eli Hollander has also transformed into Data.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Desperately but without success they try to end the programme. There is only one hope.
TROI: We have to remember, even though the holodeck safeguards may be off, this is still a programme. If we can just get to the end of this story the way it was designed to play out, the programme will automatically terminate.
And so they play along as best they can. Data-Frank Hollander visits his son Data-Eli in prison to comfort him and to propose an exchange with the abducted deputy Alexander.
Tumblr media
DATA-FRANK: You sit tight, boy. I’ll have you home in time for supper. (to Sheriff Worf) I’m going to give you one more opportunity, Sheriff, to avoid a ugly situation. Release my boy. WORF: I have reconsidered your offer. I will release your son in exchange for my deputy. DATA-FRANK: I thought you might have a change of heart. Meet me in two hours. You be in front of the saloon. I’ll be in front of the livery station. Strangers ain’t invited.
Two fathers and two sons meet under the glaring sunshine in the middle of a deserted main street.
Tumblr media
Deanna Troi’s warning words turn out to be true … that villains in Western stories can’t ever be trusted.
TROI: They’re not concerned with honour, Worf. This is the Ancient West. There’s a gunfighter out there who has the speed and accuracy of an android. And in two hours, he’s going to try to kill you.
Data-Frank Hollander doesn’t come alone to reclaim his son. Another two outlaws are lurking near the street … behind a door, on top of a roof … waiting to interfere. And both of them have turned into Data’s as well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then the gunfight is over. As mentioned by Deanna Troi, the computer programme should automatically end now. Surprisingly, it doesn’t. It seems the story isn’t quite over yet.
To Worf’s utter shock and surprise, Annie, the lady who owns the saloon, approaches him. She hugs and kisses the sheriff enthusiastically …. and she too looks now like Data ….
Tumblr media Tumblr media
DATA-ANNIE: Sheriff! You’re as handy with a shooting iron as you are with a woman’s heart. WORF: (panic-stricken) Computer, end programme! Computer! Now!
Tumblr media
After that strange adventure Alexander heavily doubts that his father will ever again engage with him in a similar play on the holodeck. Turns out … he is mistaken …
WORF: The town of Deadwood may face danger once again. If they do, they will need a sheriff and a deputy.
Tumblr media
And back in the main room ..... in front of the mirror .... :)))
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
.... while the Enterprise flys off into the sunset of an alien star ....

Some intersting background information
The director of this episode is Patrick Stewart.
The episode title is an homage to the Clint Eastwood film A Fistful of Dollars.
The original title was The Good, the Bad and the Klingon, a paraphrase of the title of Leone's The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.
The plot is a homage to Rio Bravo.
In an interview Stewart mentions that for this episode he watched the movie Shane for inspiration regarding westerns. A scene from Shane was taken by Stewart and copied as the one where Alexander looks out of the bottom of the saloon doors.

I leave you to your own deductions.

This is my weekly roundup of things I am up to. Topics include anthropocentrism, modularity and risk, minimum lot sizes, and the Great Stagnation.
Flavors of Anthropocentrism
This Twitter thread was helpful to me in clarifying different notions of anthropocentrism that are common in philosophical discourse. While there are many such definitions, two in particular I think are important.
1) The belief that humans (and human values, if you’re a weak anthropocentrist) have high or exclusive moral weight relative to ecosystems or other organisms.
2) The belief that humans are special in the kingdom of life and have unique roles and responsibilities.
In the thread, Nils Gilman conflates the two definitions, while Wolf Tivy decouples them, as does the original piece linked; David Grinspoon on the Sapiezoic. David comes fairly close to defining a view that is similar to what I want to advocate. My view has two main components: first, that civilization, as a unique form of emergent complexity, does deserve special (though by no means exclusive) moral consideration, and second, that scientific advancement allows us to play positive-sum games between values systems and thus is something to be pursued.
Wolf also referenced Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, an early 20th Century French Jesuit priest who is best known (at least by me) for introducing Omega Point cosmology and the idea of the noosphere. But I know little about his broader work. Now I want to investigate more thoroughly.
Modularity and Risk Reduction
The main tradeoff in urban design is between economies (good things) and diseconomies (bad things) that come with scale. The diseconomies of scale tend to grow faster than economies, but from a smaller base, and from a sufficiently large size. For this reason, there tends to be an optimum city size, though this optimum varies widely based on the city’s economic specialization, transportation infrastructure, and other factors. I am interested in the question of whether and how these principles might be extended to networks of cities (e.g. civilization). While there are clearly economies of scale, there also seem to be observable diseconomies of scale. One such diseconomy is what the Effective Altruist community identifies as existential risk, or its slightly less severe cousin, global catastrophic risk.
For this reason, there is great interest in tools that reduce risk without also harming economies of scale. That’s where this article on mitigating x-risk through modularity comes in. It calls for forms of modular civilization design to decouple risks across regions. An example would be cities that are better able to prevent arrival and departure to control infectious disease outbreaks. The article mentions space colonization as a form of modularity but notes that this is not a practical option for the foreseeable future.
The ideas here are interesting, but I’m not sure how they would work in practice. The article also doesn’t note the scale/risk tradeoff mentioned earlier, which I think has to be a central consideration of any risk reduction measure.
Relative to the EA community, I am more concerned about technological stagnation and demographic decline, and less about nuclear war, AI run amok, etc. (though I acknowledge that these are serious issues as well). This makes me think about modularity in somewhat different terms. For example, charter, private, and homeschooling as a way of reducing the ideological pressures that are prevalent in public schooling; decentralized social media; charter cities, quantified health; and so forth. These areas too require rigor in terms of social polyculture gained versus the costs of decentralization.
Minimum Lot Size
This week the Oregon Legislature considered a bill, HB 2655, that would put a statewide cap of 1 acre on minimum lot sizes for residential areas that countries can impose. The cap is currently 5 acres. According to research that Urban Cruise Ship has done, minimum lot size regulations are the most impactful regulation, per housing unit affected, of widely used zoning rules on land use. There are 13 pieces of written testimony submitted against the bill, 2 asking for clarification, and 1 (namely, mine) in favor (on Twitter I said there are 15 testimonies against, but I mistakenly double-counted two of them).
Aside from the usual NIMBY stuff, the most prevalent argument against the bill is that it would encourage rural development and hence sprawl. Rather upset at the time, I marveled on Twitter how minimum lot size regulations could be packaged as anti-sprawl tools. I guess the rationale is a sort of Simpson’s Paradox situation: while the new rules should densify rural development, they would increase rural development relative to urban development and lower density overall. In theory at least. I’d have to do some calculations to know whether this argument holds water. I haven’t done so, and I am quite certain that the opponents of the bill haven’t done so either. At any rate, in my testimony I was more concerned with affordability than density, and the rules would indisputably improve affordability.
I only became aware of the bill because of some comments that Randy Tucker, Oregon Metro’s state lobbyist, made in a work session. Randy, presumably representing Metro’s official position, is against the bill, apparently concerned primarily about retaining local control over land use decisions. I am bothered that (what appears to be) Metro’s official position would make housing less affordable, which clearly goes against my interest, though I don’t think this is something worth making a stink to my representative about.
Another big question in my mind is where the state’s pro-housing establishment was. They got a major land use reform bill, HB 2001, through the legislature a couple years ago. I get it that it’s hard to trawl through everything that the legislature does. A person almost has to be a full-time lobbyist to keep track of everything, and I certainly don’t keep track of everything. But even with this dynamic accounted for, the pro-housing movement seems to be very selective about what they will and won’t support, and housing affordability is at best one of several priorities that they bring to the table.
Great Stagnation
There were several pieces in the last few weeks about whether the world is in a “Great Stagnation”, and what, if anything, we can reasonably do about it. For the sake of clarity, I consider the Great Stagnation to be the observed secular slowdown in growth of Total Factor Productivity, but the term has a somewhat broader meaning.
Discussion was kicked off by this Jason Crawford post, where he seems to have come around to the idea that there is in fact a secular TFP slowdown. Crawford points out that we are currently seeing significant progress in information technology, but in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, we were seeing significant progress across the board.
Eli Dourado breaks down technology growth here, and he calls specifically for innovation in areas that make up the lion’s share of the budget for poor households: housing, energy, food, and health care (education isn’t mentioned but that is another important area). He calls for a progressive supply-side approach to these issues, which he rightly identifies as much superior to simply writing checks, which has become a sort of default option for dealing with social challenges.
The Nintel blog added this piece, arguing two points. First, there is no evidence of a technological slowdown. Second, trying to identify a unified theory for stagnation is not very helpful, and we should focus on reforms that we know will raise TFP, like raising birth rates. The piece is interesting. I would be inclined to agree with the second point but disagree with the first; it seems to me that there really is a slowdown in basic science, though the jury is still out on my mind whether this is something that can be reversed.
I’ve been thinking about this issue for a long time without any clear answers, and I wonder if I have reached a point of diminishing returns. One final observation: to say that there is a slowdown in TFP is to use a fixed annual percentage rate of TFP growth (or exponential growth in the economy) as a baseline expectation. But why should we expect that? In a different context, I’ve criticized the emissions/GDP (carbon intensity) metric as one that implicitly expects these two quantities to be proportional and then seeks to explain deviation from proportionality. But I think there are inherent reasons to not expect them to be proportional, and so declining carbon intensity is not a thing that needs to be explained, at least in that form. Maybe declining TFP is in the same boat.

The Gotobeds Interview
The Gotobeds
The Gotobeds return to the fray with their third full length, ‘Debt Begins at 30’. The esprit de corps and anxiety-free joy that permeates their other LPs and EPs remains intact. The octane is high-test, the engine still has knocks and pings and the battery is overcharged. The Gotobeds - as Pittsburgh as it gets, the folk music of the Steel City - have more tar for us to swallow. ‘Debt Begins at 30’ is an old-fashioned blast furnace and the liquid iron flows. The album's first single, Calquer the Hound, features guest performances by Kim Phuc singer Rob Henry, and Evan Richards of The City Buses. (The album has guests on all eleven tracks. The song has euphony, a sly bridge, plenty of trademark bash, and a spacey outro. It's a sanguine album opener, more Al Oliver than Starling Marte, to put it in Pittsburgh Pirates terms. ‘Debt Begins at 30’ is an old-fashioned blast furnace and the liquid iron flows… We talk to Eli Kasan about writers block, 80s nostalgia and YouTube binges…
TSH: For your current record ‘Debt Begins at 30’, what sort of experiences and perspectives were you mostly impacted by in the lead-up to this release?
Eli: Most of life’s real shit happened to the four of us both cumulatively and independently. Death, divorce, debt, alcoholism, fatherhood, surprise fatherhood were all on the table before this record. It became a time of great reckoning for us, and one that I’m not sure how we’ll top. It did however come together as a group triumph: we’ve managed to hit the 10 year mark of some of us playing together (in various forms). We also managed to try to distil the feeling of adulthood and its horrors and high-points in a punk record.
TSH: You guys recruited a ton of guests to sing and play alongside you on this release, how pleasing was it to have collaborations leading to such amazing results?
Eli: Well, very pleased that you said amazing results – it still boggles our minds that we were able to pull this off. It always makes it more interesting when you can have some outside assistance from folks you admire so highly. It really began as a joke: we had Joe from Protomartyr sing on a song, the idea being when we would tour together, as we often did, that you would be able to hear that song live with the two voices. While writing this LP, we were all listening to trap mixes, Cary suggested guests on every song and I set about carving space for folks to contribute, both big and small. Every person asked said yes, sans John Sharkey who got busy and missed his deadline - though missed, the song made it out alive.
TSH: Also, which collaboration would you say was most intense and unique?
Eli: Hard to say, as I’m loathe to pick a favourite as they all contribute something worthwhile, though Victoria from Downtown Boys’ contribution is notable here because she was the only person who got a blank check to make something. I gave her the song and my lyric inspiration and told her to make her version, so that was thrilling getting such a killer vocal performance back of which we didn’t direct.
TSH: You’ve previously touched on having a preconceived notion of what you want the band to sound like. How has this outlook evolved over time?
Eli: Interesting question and not one I think we or I’ve ever kept top of mind here. Writing interesting pop songs with junk on top ala the Swell Maps was the only real lodestar, so we’ve maintained that through-and-through. Gavin (our bassist) did describe one thing helpful here: Tfp is our third guitarist and changed the sound markedly because he contributes to songwriting and has a different process than mine. Gavin described Tfp as liturgous and scientific in his chasing down iterations of song before “perfecting” the final product (he is a scientist professionally so this is not a stretch), and I’m much more haphazard to which he called “lightning in a bottle”. Harder to do every time, but a thrill when you do.
TSH: What’s the backstory regarding a track like ‘Bleached Midnight’?
Eli: Funny you ask about this track because it relates to the previous question. This track is all Tfp’s baby as he wrote the entirety of it. It came to us mostly fully formed (sans ending) and we had it earmarked from day one that it would bookened the LP. Alex from Protomartyr heard us playing it on tour with them when it was new and would request it off us, which was very kind. The other interesting thing to note here is that it on the surface lacks a guest contributor. I had writers block shortly before entering the studio, but I chanced upon a book written by a friend of mine. He lived with me off and on, and is a brilliant writer. The title and the chorus are his words – words about being addicted to heroin, but seemed perfect for my “war” story (war on the world, war on the self, war internally, etc.). Think the final track was 4 takes – we had it down.
TSH: Also, what sort of memories come to mind when you assess the track ‘On Loan’?
Eli: I can instantly picture the river by Electrical Audio studio in Chicago where I wrote ½ the lyrics. Writers block and nerves had rendered me useless writing the lyrics to it – I knew the theme was being out on loan as a counterpoint to the theme of ‘debt’. I think I had to sing it in like 20 minutes and I sat down and saw our overflowed ashtray - and wrote damn near all of it. We took a break and walked to the river to try and climb down into some weird tunnel (just for fun) and I wrote the end “the radios thrown in the deep // can’t let the dead see you weep // I want a future worth more than mine” and had to keep reciting them on the walk back to not forget them. Another one of Tfp’s solo writing ventures and a very fine one indeed.
TSH: How key has it been to be humorous and not take yourselves too seriously as a band over the years?
Eli: We take the music and writing seriously but not ourselves, I think it has helped us not develop into entitled assholes. Also, the sheer joy we get from writing and playing live I’d hope comes through since we aren’t people taking themselves too seriously – cause that shit is painful.
TSH: Does it feel at times like you’re competing with the best version of yourselves to get the best possible output?
Eli: More like I’m competing with the best LPs I own and their looking over their shoulder the whole time wondering how much of the store they’re gonna let me steal before stopping me. Trying to top your influences is a heady goal and one you likely will always fail at – but that failure is what makes the interesting stuff happen. I sometimes think the opposite of our best selves: in some ways we’re our worst selves when we’re in the band, having Peter Pan syndrome trying to avoid ageing, drinking heavily as a crutch, and playing loudly to cathartically escape whatever ails us.
TSH: ‘Twin Cities’ was shot entirely on VHS. When you think of 90s nostalgia and VCR reminiscences, what comes to mind?
Eli: That was a happy accident and one that makes sense for 30 year old dudes. Though I’ll quote Lou Reed that “I don’t like anyone’s nostalgia but mine” – I think it’s important to shut the fuck up about this point and I’ll tell you why: when I was a young buck working in a record store I had a friend always chiding us over our 80s hero worship. He would joke “you’re freaking me out! You’re dressed like you went to my high school and you’re buying all these records” – but when you’re a kid that perspective does not matter at all to you, so I try to temper my worst impulses to hate on the current trend of 90s revivalism. My opinion on youth culture is unimportant.
TSH: Speaking of VCR, what led to the following tweet ‘If I had a derby horse I’d name it “My Parents VCR”…
Eli: Haha! Twitter is great, it’s like a landfill, all my old thoughts go there to die, though I’m glad that trivial synapse registered with you, even though I have no idea what I meant by it…
TSH: Whilst on tour, how does the band like to chill out?
Eli: We’re preternaturally mischievous so we’re always getting into some shit to make each other laugh. I’ve had friends in different cities note that when we go somewhere together that “it looks like you like each other” which is something I didn’t realise was missing in other bands. Alcohol is a good lubricant in the van – passes the time. Our van has a high ceiling so you can kind of stand up in the wheel-well by the door - so we stand up and dance a lot. The driver gets choice of music and it’s too varied to note, however, we do have these strange ingrained rituals where when we get 20 minutes out from the venue we have to put on rap music and you have to drink a beer – brings the energy up. We have tons of these strange rituals that spring forth from nowhere and only make sense to us, kind of like a bunch of kids who grew up on a dead-end. If only Azzerad or Bob Mehr would contact us to write a book, we could fill that fucking thing with hilarity and tragedy.
TSH: What did you watch on your last YouTube binge?
Eli: It’s been mainly live Leonard Cohen, Nick Cave interviews and Scatman John’s ‘Scat-man’s World’ which is an insane video that Cary has me obsessed with. Watch it, it’s germane in the way it grows on you and you’ll piss your pants laughing at his scat solo!
TSH: Finally, what’s the most important dynamic you feel as a band you’d like to maintain heading forward?
Eli: Managing interpersonal bullshit to keep the squad getting along (which is fairly easy). We all like and buy new music and aren’t curmudgeons about the best stuff already being written, so I think that keeps us vital. Wouldn’t hire a member that didn’t do that.

Antisocial Personality Disorder Treatment Market : Review with Forecast Research Report 2018 - 2026
Antisocial personality disorder (ASPD or APD), also known as cluster-B personality disorder, is a neurological health disorder. A person with the disorder is characterized by dramatic and unpredictable behavior and thinking and overly emotional interactions with others. People with antisocial personality disorder do not conform to societal and cultural norms. This disorder is also known as sociopathy. Common signs and symptoms of this disorder may include recklessness, impulsiveness, deceitfulness, violation of the physical or emotional rights of others, irritability and aggressiveness, consistent irresponsibility, a childhood diagnosis (or symptoms consistent with) of conduct disorder, lack of remorse, disregard for society’s laws, and lack of stability in job and home life.
Read Report Overview: https://www.transparencymarketresearch.com/antisocial-personality-disorder-treatment-market.html
Currently, there is no single cause of this disorder. ASPD can be caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Neurotransmitters are brain chemical messengers that transmit essential information throughout the brain and body and responsible for ASPD caused by genetic factors. The incidence of ASPD is higher in people with an antisocial biological parent as compared to the incidence of the disorder due to environmental factors. Spouse abuse or child abuse or neglect; gang participation; homicidal or suicidal behavior; alcohol or substance abuse, usually as a result of violence; premature death, usually as a result of violence; and having other mental health disorders such as depression or anxiety are major complications of antisocial personality disorder.
People suffering from antisocial personality disorder are unlikely to believe they need help. It is difficult to diagnose accurate patterns in patients with antisocial personality disorder. The key factor in diagnosing antisocial personality disorder is how the affected person relates to others. Currently, there is no cure for ASPD. However, a few marketed drugs (antidepressants, mood stabilizers, and antipsychotics) are expected to help improve the symptoms of the disorder.
Increase in the prevalence of ASPD across the globe is expected to drive the antisocial personality disorder treatment market. Additionally, rise in awareness about the disorder globally is anticipated to fuel the growth of the market. However, the multifactorial etiology and complex pathophysiology of the disorder are likely to be major restraints for the antisocial personality disorder treatment market in the coming years.

The global antisocial personality disorder treatment market can be segmented based on treatment, end-user, and region. In terms of treatment, the antisocial personality disorder treatment market can be categorized into psychotherapy and medications. Antisocial personality disorder is primarily treated with psychotherapy. Psychotherapy is also known as talk therapy, which is the fundamental treatment approach for this disorder. Psychotherapy helps restore the current ability to function, manage emotions, and improve relationships. The psychotherapy segment can be further divided into dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), mentalization-based therapy (MBT), schema-focused therapy, transference-focused therapy (TFP), and others. Psychotherapy is not always effective in case of antisocial personality disorder patients, especially if the symptoms are severe. There is no approved drug for antisocial personality disorder. However, certain drugs could help reduce symptoms or co-occurring problems such as anxiety and depression. Medications could include antipsychotics or mood stabilizers and antidepressants.
Based on end-user, the antisocial personality disorder treatment market can be segmented into psychiatric hospital and home health care. In terms of revenue, the psychiatric hospital segment held a significant share of the market in 2017.

In terms of region, the global antisocial personality disorder treatment market can be segmented into North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia Pacific, and Middle East & Africa. North America accounted for a significant share of the global antisocial personality disorder treatment market in 2017, followed by Europe and Asia Pacific. The U.S. held a major share of the market in North America in terms of revenue. The market in Asia Pacific is expanding rapidly due to an increase in the number of patients. Moreover, Asia Pacific is projected to be a highly attractive region of the antisocial personality disorder treatment market in the near future. This is due to the presence of emerging economies such as India, China, and Japan; better health care infrastructure; economic growth; rise in the number of insurance payers; expanding and developing private health care sector; and increase in awareness among people.
Key players in the global antisocial personality disorder treatment market include Bristol-Myers Squibb, AstraZeneca plc, Eli Lilly and Company, GlaxoSmithKline plc, Novartis AG, Johnson & Johnson, and Pfizer Inc..
