horror franchise knockout 🥊💥: results!

this is it! after 9 bloody, brutal rounds, we have our one lone survivor. it was a close fight between a formidable pairing - saw, a 19 year, nine movie franchise with a film coming out in october, and evil dead, a 42 year, four film and 3 season franchise with a film coming out in april! saw almost got eliminated in about half the rounds of the poll, but fought tooth and nail to make it to the finals. evil dead won the least votes every single round, skating all the way through to the last faceoff. in the end, only one can win this knockout game.

the winner of the horror franchise knockout tournament is….

evil dead!

the final matchup was pretty tight, especially given the total sweep evil dead had the entire game, with 53.3% of the votes for saw, and 46.7% of the votes for evil dead. thanks everyone for playing along, congrats to ash williams for being the least hated franchise babygirl on tumblr!

i wanted to look at what proportion of votes the eliminated franchises got relative to how many options there were, so that we could compare each round equivalently despite the differing numbers of options. these numbers are essentially the percent of votes divided by (1/number of films in the round), both as a whole number (so times 100).

based on that, the order from most severe sweep to closest-to-even result was:

- final destination (2.21)

- friday the 13th (2.20)

- child’s play (2.03)

- texas chainsaw massacre (1.90)

- nightmare on elm street (1.65)

- psycho (1.50)

- halloween (1.48)

- scream (1.13)

- saw (1.07)

- evil dead (.93)

and the result of the bonus round, from worst/least liked to best/favorite:

- psycho (3.4%)

theres some pretty interesting differences between these orders! the final three in the knockout game (relatively close last two rounds) were also the most liked franchises by a landslide in the bonus round, (though saw managed to eek out the win there!) and the closest results by proportional numbers. but, the first two eliminated franchises (final destination and evil dead) fared better than the rest when i asked people to vote for what the liked most. of course, the fun of the game was seeing how the choices left impacted the votes, so the independent bonus round isnt the same at all, but its fun to look at

NYCFSA at The Lesser Players

On Monday, November 11, 2024, my pinball team New York City Flipper Sport Association visited Barcade Chelsea for a match against The Lesser Players. We came in 8-0 in first place among Monday teams in the Pinball NYC league, while they were 1-7 in last. It looked like an easy matchup on our schedule, but knowing the oddball machines at this location, I was wary.

To wit: Looney Tunes is brand new, and no one really knows how to play it. It has a second flipper button on the right that doesn’t seem to do anything! (I think it might be like a mode selector.) I have played a Texas Chainsaw Massacre a few times, so I had an inkling of how to play. I’m a little surprised they didn’t pick it—but not that surprised. Apollo 13 has the persistent-across-players-and-games BLASTOFF spell-out that grants thirteen-ball multiball; not suitable for serious competitive play, but in this case we made good use of it to take 3 of the 4 points contested on that machine. Black Knight 2000’s upper flipper was not working well, ugh. Future Spa is more or less a luck box. At first glance, the only machine in the lineup that presented our Association an advantage looked to be Stranger Things—for our roster I like to see a modern Stern.

I performed miserably in the first round, and decided to sit myself following that. Splitting nearly every round, we won 9-7 which is just about as close as it can get.

We have now secured a bye for the playoffs!

I did get to play the thirteen-ball multiball on Apollo 13 during warmup, so that was fun.

Hello! I saw matchups are open... could I get a yandere and a regular mtmte matchup? (Just yandere is fine if you can't do both).

I am a very anxious introvert (20/she-her/INFP) and find myself worrying about everything. I am a bisexual and I would describe my style as 'soft goth'. I love video games and movies and tend to love/fixate more on the villains in both (I also aspire to be a film maker one day or at least work in the industry as an editor). -so uhh to start off with i use they/them pronouns and am AFAB (assigned female at birth) and have not gotten any transition surgeries so i still look more feminine (which causes some gender dysphoria around the time of my period and on some days i find it really hard to make myself shower because i don't like to look at my body)

- very much a fan of animes (like Haikyuu, The Promised Neverland (i cried a bunch), Demon Slayer, Blue Exorcist, Hunter x Hunter, OHSHC, FairyTail, Bungou Stray Dogs, etc) and video games (like Danganronpa, YTTD, Ayakashi Akaashi, Until Dawn, Undertale, Detriot Become Human, Minecraft, Genshin Impact (obviously) and FNAF (yes i'm a Game Theory fan))

- whilst i do enjoy horror i prefer psychological horror to slasher films and straight up gore (i have a lot of nightmares from the time i was dared to watch Texas Chainsaw Massacre and either screamed, cried or sat petrified in fear for almost the entire time)

- i get really emotionally attached to characters in books/TV Shows/movies which i know is a problem and they're not real but i cant stop myself

- i'm definitely an English History person instead of a Science Math person (i'm terrible at math please help me-)

- i forget to sleep and/or eat a lot, and im a huge hypocrite who preaches self-care but doesn't do any self-care for myself (i take the self out of self-care if you will)

- i ramble a lot as well about anything and everything that interests me and will not shut up for awhile

- i'm not too short but also not too tall at 5"8" with long brown hair and blue-grey eyes. whilst i do wear glasses usually i've recently started using contact lenses which i think are neat

- i adore musical theater and music, i sing, play piano, and know some guitar and cello. i think i'm an okay singer but people tell me i'm really good and my voice is really cool because i'm able to sing a lot of different styles (i primarily do musical theater and jazz music but i can also sing classical Italian pieces)

- i speak Polish, Spanish, French and English but i would love to learn Russian and/or Italian fluently.

- i hate having photos taken of myself, but love taking pictures of my friends for memories

- i have a sticker and pin addiction i'm such a little gremlin who hoards them

- my music style is pretty diverse because i usually listen to musicals or Paramore as well as classical music (i've been listening to a string quartet version of Howl's Moving Castle on repeat for weeks and it sounds like a gypsy romance which i adore, the version i listen to is by the Vitamin String Quartet) and metal

Adam Driver - Okay so I recently watched the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre for the first time and even though I cannot stand this character I kept thinking the crazy hitchhiker looked A LOT LIKE ADAM FROM CERTAIN ANGLES so I’m like “okay but WHAT IF this character were SUBTLE” and there’s Adam in all his ‘looks gorgeous in flannel without even trying’ glory XD BUT neither the original nor the remake are high on my list of faves SO I’m giving Adam mother! instead :P Because much like JLaw, while he’s definitely pretty on the outside, the real appeal comes from what he’s capable of as an actor; the raw intensity paralleling that of the downward spiral the corresponding film takes.
