Graphic novel, comic book, or manga: Real Hero Shit by Kendra Wells. The Crown Prince of a fantasy kingdom decides to join a group of adventurers to cure his boredom.

Originally I was going to do a Saga reread, but my best friend suggested something new and I decided to go for it! It’s a quick read and a lot of fun, though the pacing is a bit weird at times. Hopefully there’s a continuation of it in the future!

Published in the aughts: Monstrous Regiment by Terry Pratchett (published 2003). The 31st Discworld book, a young woman disguises herself as a man in order to join the army of Borogravia and find her missing brother.

The first time I read Monstrous Regiment was in 2014 as a part of my “bet” with my local library that I couldn’t read 24 books in two weeks. I won, but at the cost of a lot of small details going over my head. Rereading this 11 years later was an absolute blast and jumped Monstrous Regiment up into my top 5 Discworld books.

Bookseller or Librarian Rec: Winter’s Orbit by Everina Maxwell. In order to secure the continuation of a longstanding treaty, Prince Kiem of the Iskat Empire is ordered to marry Count Jainan of Thea, the widower of Kiem's recently deceased cousin. The two discover a conspiracy while investigating the possible murder of Kiem's cousin that threatens the treaty.

A recommendation from my local bookstore, Winter's Orbit is a fun space opera that was published back in 2021. It took a bit for me to really get into it, there's a lot of detail about gender expression upfront that, while interesting, really detracts from the story, but once we got into the political intrigue I was hooked.

Read a Zine, Make a Zine: Trans(in)formation by Kelly Shortandqueer (Found on the Queer Zine Archive here), Tetsu & Koushi by Finn ravenqueensspecialboi (that's me!)

Trans(in)formation was first published in 2004 to be used in a workshop at the Madison Zine fest as a resource on genderqueer and transgender issues. It was a fascinating look at the kind of information that was available back in 2004 and what terminology was being used to define transness, which is noted in a definitions section at the front of the zine. It also had excerpts from other zines and contact information at the back, making for a very interesting time capsule.

For making my own zine, I decided to make a little zine about my cats, Tetsu and Koushi! It was pretty quick to make and it was fun to doodle my kiddos, even if (true to form), Tetsu yelled at me from the door to my office the whole time I was making it. I've included pictures of my beasts at the end for fun.

kuroo had a day. it started when you didn’t kiss him off to work like usual, then he spilled coffee on his trousers during a meeting, and then now, finally leaving the office well after his normal hours.

all he wanted to do was find you and hold you close to forget the horrors. but when he got home, he had never felt more betrayed in his life. his loving wife, his life partner, the love of his life, had left him for the comfort of his best friend.

pain struck his body as he walked into the room, ready to let you know how upset he was, how hurt you made him feel. but you barely looked bothered.

there you were, in your shared bedroom, curled up on the bed and cuddling a kodzuken cat plushie.

kuroo always insists that he’s a dog person but anytime you see him with a cat, you doubt him a little. he’s just so careful and soft around them. he’ll crouch down, gently holding out his hand for them to sniff, his eyes wide with hope that the little kitty will accept him. whenever they do and they rub it’s head over his hand, he will have the biggest, most authentic smile on his face. and before you know it, he’s cooing over the kitten, softly petting it, contentment easing over his shoulders as his takes in the small victory.

Before I am going to work on my requests and writing, I really wanted to finish the Hanamiya watercolor that I promised to make due to my Cat Event, an event that started in April and its almost July...

I realized I was pretty shitty in this regard, so I finished it!

I think I already mentioned this in comments about a cat related post, but cats are great at hunting snakes. It's part of why they were revered in Ancient Egypt.

So when the results were in, and I saw most people voted for a cat version of Hanamiya with snake coming in 2nd, I knew I was going to turn this into a snake-hunt spectacle.

Because someone already made a nice artwork of a cat version of Hanamiya in realistic colors, I decided to use the teal color of the Kirisaki Daiichi team as primary color for the snake and to use bits of teal alongside brown, greys and blacks for Hanamiya's fur to make the two animals into one cohesive piece.

Even when re-attempting the whiskers with acrylic paint, they still look pretty bad. I still need a bit of experience in painting whiskers LMAO
