Why would a battle fought 54 years ago provide key insight on what Hamas' strategy is today?

Asymmetric Warfare. It's a term that most people don't really understand. Before I did this, I was a United States Army Green Beret and I did a couple of combat tours in Iraq. And needless to say, asymmetric warfare was kind of our thing.

So, in practical terms, it is a type of war between belligerents whose relative military power, strategy or tactics differ significantly. And as a result of this, the weaker opponent will use unconventional tactics in order to maximize one's strengths against a stronger opponent's weaknesses or vulnerabilities.

For instance, an Insurgent force does not have the freedom of movement or firepower necessary to attack a forward operating base or a heavily armed column. So instead, they focus on softer logistical targets. They may choose to use a remotely activated roadside bomb instead of engaging in direct fire.

In many situations, the weaker adversary has fewer personnel and resources. And so, a significant part of their strategy is to preserve those limited resources and use the munitions that they have to the greatest possible advantage.

But here's the thing. To pull this off long term, you generally need a consistent means of supply combined with enough territory to hit, run and then hide. And Hamas doesn't have these things, at least not in sufficient supply to win against the IDF.

So, what's their strategy? What can Hamas leverage that will allow them to conduct offensive operations against a much stronger opponent and then avoid getting destroyed by the IDF's vastly superior military capability?

And the answer to that question as horrific, as it is, is civilian casualties, but probably not the ones you're thinking.

To understand this, let's discuss that example 54 years ago. The Tet Offensive in the Vietnam War virtually wiped out the Viet Kong. It was by every objective measure, a complete tactical failure. But strategically, it was invaluable. Because while achieving none of its military objectives, the Tet Offensive shattered Americans' perspective on the situation on the ground.

Opponents of the war were able to effectively use the offensive as a demonstration of the futility of American involvement. Hollywood, Academia and many in the mainstream media went to work convincing the American people that the war couldn't be won. Or perhaps just shouldn't even be fought. And in a representative government, when the electorate decides that a war is lost, it is, regardless of the situation on the ground.

Now, understand something. I'm not making an argument for the pros or cons of fighting the Vietnam War. I'm merely illustrating a point about modern Asymmetric Warfare. The lesson of the Tet Offensive is when fighting the West, you don't defeat their military. You win their electorate. And the way to do that is through the institutions which shape culture in the West, namely Hollywood, the Media and Academia.

If Hamas had decided to engage in a conventional military attack directed at only legitimate military targets, the IDF would have effectively destroyed their war fighting capability within days, and Hamas knows it. So, they engaged in asymmetric strategy.

Once we understand this, their actions on October 7th, as horrific as they are, begin to make more sense. Hamas didn't just target civilians because they were easy targets or because they despise Jews, although both of those things are true. The attack and the subsequent taking of hostages was actually designed to elicit a major response from the IDF.

But why? Well, maybe it's because to achieve their strategic objectives, Hamas needs civilian casualties. And more specifically they need Palestinian civilian casualties. And this is why.

The two entities in this conflict that lose the most from a greater peace agreement in the Middle East are Iran and the terrorist organizations they support. Upsetting this process requires much more than the random launching of rockets into Israel or strikes against legitimate military targets. The IDF is more than capable of handling such incursions, and the Israeli people have become all too accustomed to weathering such attacks without demanding an overwhelming military response. something more significant was required.

And October 7th created the kind of conditions that demanded a significant and sustained response. They needed something so obscene that Israel would have no choice but to hit back hard.

And this is where the second component of Hamas' strategy plays out. How to get Palestinian casualties. Any government actually worried about civilian casualties dedicates resources to evacuating their own civilians from hostile areas and attempts to separate the civilian population from legitimate military targets. So what conclusion should we come to when a governing body decides to do the exact opposite?

In this asymmetric environment, Hamas is not only incentivized to kill Israeli civilians, they're incentivized to maximize their own civilian casualties in the short run in order to elicit Western intervention on their behalf. As easy as it might be to explain Hamas's strategy away as nothing but mindless bloodlust, it is actually more sinister than that.

Hamas is responding to the incentive structures certain elements within the West have created. Hamas understand that the real Battlefield is not in Gaza but in the streets, University halls and newsrooms of the West. And so that is their target. And while a ceasefire seems like a humanitarian response to the tragic death of civilians, leaving Hamas intact as an operational and governing body will ultimately just reinforce that the perverse incentive structure remains the same.

And that while the West may claim to "not negotiate with terrorists," they always seem to force Israel to as soon as it becomes politically inconvenient for them.

So here's the hard reality. If you actually want to achieve anything resembling a lasting peace in this part of the world, you're never going to achieve it by creating conditions where terrorists are incentivized to hurt both the civilians of their enemies, and their own in order to achieve their political objectives.

This, of course, was completely obvious from the moment of the al-Ahli Hospital hoax, where Western outlets worked overtime to spread Hamas propaganda without regard for truth, all the way through to the present-day "protests" which are anything but organic or grass-roots.

Got a question for you. About these rumors of Jenna removing her name from executive producer of WSSF. Thoughts on that?

From my research it’s mixed results. Wiki still has her listed as an EP but IMDB does not list her as EP for WSSF, but does for Wednesday. In all honesty, I don’t ever recall if it was ever on IMDB. So, I can’t say for sure if it not being on IMDB means anything.

I do not see any news outlets reporting that she has been removed as EP.

So overall I don’t think much because I don’t know much. lol

My first questions are where do the rumors originate? Are they from a credible source and/or are we corroborating it with IMDB? Are we simply inferring it because of IMDB? Or is this just speculation from her fans who seem to be obsessed with this narrative that she hates certain people and loves certain others?

Entertainment law is not my subject matter expertise, but I can speculate as a fan.

I think some context to the history of WSSF is needed for context/basis of my speculation.

WSSF is a small indie movie that has gone through delays because of Jenna and Percy’s commitments to Wednesday promo, COVID, and a very lengthy strike.

Jenna is also a much bigger star than when she first signed onto the movie and became EP.

My understanding (which admittedly is very little) of an EP, besides investing money, the title can come with certain responsibilities/commitments beyond being the star. This can include post-production responsibilities such as sales, marketing, and distribution. (Last visited 29/9/24 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Film_producer)

To try to cut off some less than flattering accusations towards Jenna or her costar:

She can’t divorce herself from the movie entirely. Even with removing herself as EP, she’s still the star. Her name is all over it. Her face is all over it. There is no getting around the fact she was part of it. If she is removing herself as EP, I do not believe distancing herself from the film itself is the reason. It would be a waste of money to break a contract if that was the reason because it’d be pointless.

Her invested money in it is already spent. The movie has been made and it’s premiered. There is no recouping it if she takes her name off it via EP. I do not believe it’s a money issue.

It really depends on what her actual contract says, but two things that are left as an EP are residuals and responsibilities. She still has the possibility to make money from streaming residuals. More so as an EP and a star than just the star.

My gut instinct says she would break the EP agreement because she doesn’t have the bandwidth to honor her responsibilities as EP and doesn’t believe any possible residuals is worth her time any longer.

Besides Wednesday and BJBJ taking obvious precedent over WSSF, I wouldn’t be surprised if she had other things in the works. I would totally believe that she has other big-ticket projects in the works that could easily pay to break her EP contract to get her out of it as part of her compensation package. If not, then she has certainly made several pretty pennies in the last two years that I think she could afford to break the contract herself. Again, WSSF is an indie movie and I'd be surprised if it had severe harsh monetary penalties.

Besides COVID and the strike, her co-star had unfortunate, baseless rumours spread about him. While I don’t think it’s the sole reason Jenna considered while de-prioritizing WSSF, it would be naive of me to think it wasn’t considered at all. This is another thing that works against potential residual numbers.

All of it together has really worked against the success of the film, and I think Jenna just doesn’t think it’s a worthwhile endeavor any longer. At least not to spend time and effort promoting a movie that basically missed its chance due to issues outside of its control.

It sucks, but from a completely business view, I totally get it and support it.

Lets also be honest, her fans, especially the Wenclairs, aren’t exactly tethered to reality. They do not support her projects where she is heterosexual. They constantly criticize her acting and her male leads when she has to portray a heterosexual.

Her fans are so bad that she feels she can’t debut ANY relationship in real life. (Vanity Fair, 6 August 2024).

I don’t think her “fans” understand when they keep harping on her “girl kisser energy” or “she has no chemistry with men” is a criticism of her acting and does not make it seem they think she’s a good actress. From their rancid behaviour, its clear they are more attracted to her physically than they admire her acting skills.

It’s really insulting, but they’re too narcissistic to ever actual think on their behaviour.

At bottom, I think Jenna sees the writing on the wall that WSSF for many reasons not her or anyone who worked on the film’s fault, missed its chance.

If she does remove herself as EP, then I think she will do it with the utmost respect and professionalism that she can. I don’t think she will ever speak poorly of the film or anyone who worked on the film.

All we will be able to do is speculate, but only Jenna and those she’s working with, will ever know the truth.

In Liu Kang’s new timeline, Tethys is much more headstrong than previous iterations. She still cares for those around her deeply, and would do anything to keep them safe, but can be a bit more reckless on how she deals with threats. She is still reliable, passionate and altruistic, but can be a bit intense at times. Tethys also enjoys the thrill of battle more than her previous iterations, and while fighting is almost never an option she would choose first, there is always the hope in the back of her mind that it ends up going that way. 

Tethys is also a bit more morally grey this time around, doing what’s best for her and those she is close to, regardless of laws or order. A downside to this, though, is she can be more easily persuaded or manipulated into doing something that may seem beneficial to her/her loved ones, but really only helps the benefactor. 

History: 

Tethys was born from an affair between her mother, Thalia, who was one of Liu Kang’s champions, and a powerful Edenian water mage, Zaid. She grew up among many people, but spent much of her time alongside the Lin Kuei. Her mother had been taken in after losing her family, as Tethys’ grandfather had been close to a previous Grandmaster, and in turn trained her daughter in a hybrid of their ways. 

Tethys was granted the ability to travel between Earthrealm and Outworld, being able to spend time with her father and his people. During a short visit, she found her affinity for water magics, and her ability to control and manipulate it. Her father trained her whenever they were together, whether they were alone or Rain joined them, due to Zaid being his uncle. During their training, she found herself a friendly rival in her cousin Rain. 

During her training with the Lin Kuei, she was mostly influenced by Bi-Han. She developed her abilities into a harsh, strong, more intense but still fluid style. She enjoyed the strength she felt with the fighting style, as it made her feel as though she could prove herself among the strongest of fighters. 

Because of their time spent together, Tethys developed feelings for Bi-Han. She kept them to herself, but eventually he found out. After a brief fling, the two had a falling out but remained professional due to their duties. Because of her tactical prowess and ability to assess situations quickly, she often found herself working with him anyway, so quickly had to shove her feelings out of the way, resulting in a sort of resentment for Bi-Han. She still cared deeply for him, but it was no longer in a romantic way.

As time went on, Tethys spent more time alongside the other two brothers, going on missions with both Kuai Liang and Tomas. While working with Tomas, she found that she had a knack for stealth work, and the two ended up getting along and working together quite well. At first, they bonded over their mutual feelings about Bi-Han, but eventually developed into an honest, good and wholesome friendship. It made their teamwork on missions that much more cohesive.

Tethys had worked and trained together with Tomas consistently for almost two years before she realized that she had fallen for him. She didn’t register it at first, but she eventually noticed when the two would hold eye contact for a little longer than necessary, the small touches between them- on the arm, their back or hands. Her mood rose when he was with her, and missed him when he wasn’t. She craved his laugh, his smile. 

The two hadn’t acted on their affections though until after a particularly rough mission where Tethys ended up injured. All feelings for each other came to a head and after sitting on it overnight, the two entered a relationship the next day. 

 By the time the events of MK1 roll around, they’ve been together for almost a year. She assists in the assessment of Kung Lao and Raiden, fighting Raiden at first before taking the fall. After the potential champions get recruited to train with the monks, Tethys joins them to assist in teaching them to fight against people who have magical abilities. 

Once Raiden is chosen as champion she joins the group in Outworld, acting as a bodyguard/guide, and to pay a visit to old friends and family. After winning the tournament, Tethys returned to the Lin Kuei. Once learning about the soul stealers, she was tasked along with the brothers to destroy them. She stays outside with Tomas, watching over the soul stealers to make sure they weren’t activated. 

After meeting back with Kuai Liang and learning of Bi-Han’s betrayal, Tethys hesitated. She knew of Bi-Han’s want to turn the Lin Kuei into a ruling factor of Earthrealm, and saw his point of view behind it. But this was not the way she wanted to do it. She wanted to help lead, not rule. She didn’t want power over anyone. 

When running into Bi-Han on their way out, he tried to sway her to his side, persuading and telling her what she needed to hear to switch sides. If she was alone, it would have worked. But both Tomas and Kuai Liang grounded her back in reality and she rejected Bi-Han’s proposition. The three of them left after the quick fight, regrouping back with Liu Kang and informing him on the developments. 

Tethys joins the other champions during the fight against the dragon warriors, fighting on ground level to destroy as many as she could. She also fought alongside the group against their evil counterparts, and in turn met with the Tethys who was victorious against Shang Tsung in her own timeline. After a grueling battle for their timeline and a few life lessons from her prior self, she along with the others were successful in protecting their timeline. 

Once the dust had settled, she joined Kuai Liang, Harumi and Tomas in forming the new Shirai Ryu.

Back in November 1967, during the height of the Vietnam War, General William Westmoreland informed a gathering at the National Press Club that the war would be wrapped up in two year’s time. According to Westmoreland, who viewed the conflict in Vietnam as a war of attrition, the US had taken the number of soldiers available to the enemy (the National Liberation Front, NLF or Viet Cong, and the North Vietnamese Army, or NVA) down from 300,000 in 1966 to around 200,000 in 1967. Instead, 1968 saw the enemy launch the Tet Offensive, with the combined NLF/NVA strength estimated to be at around 600,000—twice the estimated number of troops the US assessed in 1966, and three times the order of battle assessed for 1967.

Sam Adams, a CIA intelligence analyst assigned to the Southeast Asia Branch of the Directorate of Intelligence, started questioning the assumptions being made by Westmoreland and the US military and political command about the enemy order of battle. What he found was that the US leadership was deliberately under-reporting enemy strength, and over-reporting enemy losses, in order to create the conditions on paper that assuaged the dictate from the White House to bring the Vietnam War to an end. Westmoreland himself had been briefed on the true state of affairs in May of 1967, but purposefully continued the deception, setting the US up for embarrassment and defeat. Thousands of American lives were lost as a result.

The 'Tet Offensive Survivor' Pin with the 'Combat Action Ribbon' Pin only ever seems to appear in the pilot episode where the journal is seen. Every other time we get a glimpse of the journal these two pins are no longer present. Since the show was running for 15 seasons and these two pins were only ever in the first episode, I decided I was going to go with using the 4 ribbons we see throughout the show excluding the pilot.

In terms of where you can purchase these pins varies. If you are in the US they seem to be widely available from what I can see with a simple Google Search. If however you are outside the US like myself, you will find that you can get them on sites like eBay with reasonable prices.

The 'US Marines Rifle Expert' on the other hand is very easy to get in my experience. A Google search landed me with a fair amount of results, and to my surprise, AliExpress who ships worldwide also with free delivery had these available at less than £6 GBP!

It's also worth noting that if like me you purchase the 'Con*Quest' Journal replica Deluxe Bundle; you'll also get a 'Pin Pack' containing 4 ribbon pins, Rifle Expert Pin and the US Army Aviation School Fort Rucker pin...However, all the pins/ribbons are different from that seen on the show.

A FLOWIN training mat with pads. Apparently, professional footballer Yūto Nagatomo ⚽️ also uses them. Next are my voice training companions. These are textbooks for voice lessons. They are incredibly helpful. This is already my second Concone book. Then we have this English chat app. Here you can see Teacher Susan (AI). She says a lot of difficult things that I struggle to understand. Finally, these are my hair care and makeup products. I use most of them daily, depending on my mood. I mainly go for the pink one in the middle. And these are my latest top makeup products. The yellow ones look so cute. I bought the star-shaped shiny silver one to apply some of it to my décolletage at the Ghibli concert but then I completely forgot to do it.

This is a continuation from the Talk Corner in the latest issue of my fan club bulletin. My diagnosis story ended with me visiting an ENT specialist due to a feeling of pressure in my ears. There, I ended up receiving a shocking diagnosis from the doctor that I might be experiencing hay fever😇 Unable to accept this sudden reality, I grabbed my prescription and headed to the pharmacy, feeling anxious. When I entered the pharmacy feeling depressed, I was greeted by two female pharmacists with kind smiles.

Pharmacist 1 (hereinafter referred to as Pharma1): "This is a prescription for an allergy medicine. Do you suffer from hay fever?" Wakana (hereinafter referred to as W): "Yes…it seems like I'm making hay fever debut..." Pharma1+Pharma2: (with a big smile in unison) "Ohhh! Welcome to our world! \(^o^)／" 😂 Pharma1: "Don't worry. It will go away if you take this medicine. Also, the doctor didn't prescribe anything strong so I don't think you're struggling with serious symptoms." Pharma2: "These days, there are many ways to deal with hay fever so you really don’t need to worry!" W: "Thank you…😭" (What a relief *sobs* Along with the pressure in my ears, I sometimes got itchy eyes. I had been prescribed eye drops, but the pharmacists told me there was a ``eye drop-type eye wash'' that they recommended. I asked them to introduce it to me. ) Pharma1: "Well, that girl from one of the something-something~zaka bands is doing a commercial for it." Pharma2: "That’s right, the one from the ~Zaka group!." Pharma1: "What's their name again? There are too many already!" Pharma2: "Hmm, yes, I wonder which group it was…" W: " Ugh, sorry, I'm not familiar with the group...'' (← I wasn't able to follow their conversation and had to give a vague answer. The two of them kept trying to remember the group's name instead of trying to figure out the girl's name from the commercial. By the way, the correct answer was Erika Ikuta from the first group, Nogizaka46.)

This is the eyewash that was recommended. In the morning, usuallly use something else to wash my eyes but the two pharmacists said this eye wash was even better😳 Now, after washing my face in the morning and before putting in my contacts, I always use this "Well Wash EYE"! ←It kind of looks like in the commercial. Of course, you can also use it as a sort of eye drop when you are out and about, so I keep it in my bag 😊

Anyway, I was very anxious about experiencing my very first hay fever, but thanks to the two kind pharmacists my future is looking bright! ! 😊 . . . . As for my current condition, I think the hay fever has completely gone away🤣🤣🤣 I no longer need to take allergy medicine every night 😂 Sometimes my eyes mysteriously swell, when I went to the allergist, I was prescribed the same medicine as last time, so I think I'll keep it on hand in case something flares up again. It was a short experience with hay fever...🥺😂 However, it may be a seasonal thing and the symptoms may appear again in the future! If that happens, I will remember those kind pharmacists and get through it! ! ･:*+.\(( °ω° ))/.:+

1tbsp 'It's Very Loud' EP Gets Back to Basics

Technology is everywhere in music today, indie house is no exception. The technology that makes it possible for people to make music on their computers is also used by DJs and producers to create new sounds and musical ideas. This allows them to experiment with new sounds while still staying true to the house music genre. The result is a music that sounds both familiar and new. It’s a type of music that people can dance to, but also one that they can enjoy while just listening to their headphones.

The New ep “It’s Very Loud” from Brisbane music creator 1tbsp is all about self-expression and making music that excites him. He creates music for his DJ sets played in popular clubs in Australia.

The title-track, ‘It's Very Loud’, which was co-written with his friend Squidgenini who also featured on his 2022 single ‘Seasons’ has a unique slow burn with lots of layers to entertain both club groups and headphone listeners.

I love this track because it’s got a very catchy melody, but also has a great rhythm. I feel like it could get stuck in my head for days. The track itself is a reflection of the artists need to create something new by going back to the basics. You need to start with what you know and then build on that. This is a great message for artists who are just starting out in their careers. It’s also a great reminder that even if other people think your ideas are crazy, they probably aren’t right because they haven’t tried them yet!

1tbsp is a project by Australian Grammy Award Nominated artist Maxwell Byrne (aka Golden Vessel) which has a sound that can be likened to a mix between Daphni, Four Tet and DJ Koze.

Over the last few weeks Maxwell has given us three exceptional new 1tbsp singles - “Pioneer Digital Plastic Sound”, “No Nein (feat. Mietze Conte)” and “Four Tet Is My Godmother” - which also came with news of a whole new ep coming our way very soon.

“I built this around a bass line that Squidgenini played the first time we met up to write. I scraped everything else we made and cut in some samples from tracklib. This is sort of the b-side on the EP, and I tried to make it a bit of a slower burn / dubby. The main vocal in the track is this trashy pop vocal but the way I cut it created new lyrics which weren’t there originally resulting in the repeating “It’s Very Loud”.” ~ 1tbsp

Maxwell also gives us some insight into the ep which he says was really all about self-expression and making music that excites him.

Maxwell is also very excited to announce that he has teamed up with Alba Martin from Earth Agency for bookings & tours across the UK & Europe.

Aging Gracefully

On December 8, 2024, I interviewed “Tita Tet”. She is 56 years old and has been a Teacher for 20 years already and is currently teaching at SPED Bangkal.Her Husband is a Soldier and she has 3 children. Tita told me that her life was really a hard one before she got into that profession. “Sauna nag minyo mi ni Tito Roger nimo, walang wala jud mi, Guard pa sya ato sa usa ka factory unya isa pa amoang anak grabe jud intawon kalisod sa kinabuhi sauna dai”. As our conversation goes by, she told me that “Gipaeskwela jud intawon ko ni Tito nimo kay di sya gusto mag dako amoang mga anak na dli namo mahatag ilang gusto” and I was speechless when she told me that because they valued providing a better future for their children. Despite the difficulties they faced, they did what was best for their family. ”Grabe jud ang kalisod sauna labi na sakoang pag maistra, ika duha pako nakatake ug board exam bago naka pasar sa kadaghan problema gi agian, pero kung ihatag gyud saimo sa ginoo, aw ihatag jud niya” I really adore how Tita Tet managed everything despite of the circumstance she faced that time. “Na assign kos bukid pagka maistra sauna, jusko mutabok pakog sapa mka adtos eskwelahan” and realize that her previous life was really difficult, based on the experiences she had. She has experienced previous traumas as well, especially because her husband is a soldier. When she gave birth to her third child, the infant was premature and just 7 months old. “Stress kaayo ko nag buntis niya dai kay nag sagol-sagol pud akong problema siguro ato”. Her first child is already a police officer, the second is awaiting the board exam results to become a licensed professional teacher, and the third is a fourth-year mechanical engineering student. Tita Tet expressed her happiness that, even though her first and second-born children are both teenage parents, they can still do what is best for their own family. 

I asked her regarding the physical changes she experienced when she was getting older. She told me that “Nah naniguwang na jud kay nagka wrinkles na” She even admitted to me that she is still attractive despite having wrinkles on her face, which made me giggle.At the age of 56, you cannot really predict the right age for her based on her physical appearance because Tita Tet was physically fit and does not have a lot of wrinkled skin. I asked her what was her secret to that kind of appearance, she told me that “Balance rajud sa sugar dai tapos hilig baya jud ko ug gulay nya less rice kay mao jud nay mka pangayayat sa lawas”. I learned how important it is to take care of oneself so that you may remain healthy as you age.

She is still delighted with the profession she chose and plans to retire when she is 60. She enjoys going out of town with her friends and family and spoiling her grandchildren. It was great to hear her stories since I have learnt so much from her, and she even gave me advice on how to live my life. She encouraged me to be brave because everything would pay off someday.“Dai, dli rajud nimo mamalayan, maabot naka sa imong mga ginapangandoy sa kinabuhi basta kay mag kugi lang ka” and that really hit me hard. 

Middle adulthood is a time when individuals often find themselves reflecting on their accomplishments, reassessing their goals, and making adjustments to their life paths. This phase is characterized by various physical, cognitive, emotional, and social changes that contribute to personal development and growth.

About this John says:

32 The Pharisees heard the crowd whispering such things about him. Then the chief priests and the Pharisees sent temple guards to arrest him.

33 Jesus said, “I am with you for only a short time, and then I am going to the one who sent me. 34 You will look for me, but you will not find me; and where I am, you cannot come.”

The Values in Gematria are:

v. 32: They heard whispering. The Number is ודצט‎, dzet, "the certainty of timber."

Forests, wild trees become instruments of man when they are carved into timber. Timber is the weight bearing substance of the temples of the Lord. "Youths Captured After Exciting Motor Car Chase," Ottawa Journal. October 3, 1932. Page 15. --- Police "Prowler" Car and Pursued Machine Make Some Thrilling Turns on Lindenlea Streets. --- Chased through the winding streets of Lindenlea and New Edinburgh by a police prowler car, four youths accused of stealing the automobile in which they tried to elude their pursuers were captured at 2.30 o'clock. Sunday morning and arrested on a charge of theft.

The prisoners were: Arthur Seguin, 17, of 45 Springfield road; Fernand Villeneuve, 17, of 90 Catherine street, Eastview: Gerard Cardinal, 16, of 30 Douglas avenue, and Royal Legault, 17, of 25 Durocher street.

Arraigned in Police Court this morning the quartet was remanded until tomorrow without pleading.

While patrolling the eastern sector of the city and rambling around New Edinburgh, Constables Leopold Goyette and John Cavan noticed an automobile cross Beechwood avenue. the boundary between Ottawa and Eastview, at Putman avenue, at high speed.

Put On Speed. Deciding to get close enough to take the license number, the police headed their car towards the direction the others had taken and turned into Putman avenue in pursuit. When they realized they were being followed and overtaken, the occupants of the car ahead increased the speed and darted into the labyrinth of streets in Lindenlea.

Hot in pursuit, the police saw the lights of their quarry's machine go out and realized they could not slacken their pace an instant if they were to catch up.

Around sharp bends, hair-pin twists and right angle corners, the two automobiles roared. the police car steadily gaining. After 10 minutes of dodging, swerving and mad racing. Constable Goyette guided the prowler car past and ahead of the other automobile and forced its passengers to stop at Rideau Terrace and Noel street.

Inspector of Detectives Mortimer Culver said the four boys had a number of articles in the car which they will be asked to explain. They include a loaded black-jack, nine flashlights, a wrench, two pairs of pliers. a tennis racket, a gallon jar and a length of rubber tubing smelling strongly of gasoline, and several bottles of soft drink.

Car Was Stolen. The automobile they were driving, the police said, belonged to Peter Bance, 37 Daly avenue, and was stolen from Nelson street between 9 and 10 p.m., Saturday. It was not damaged in the chase and subsequent capture.

Both Inspector Culver and Chief Inspector George McLeod were warm in their praise of the work which resulted in the arrest of the quin- tet and the recovery of the stolen car. They reiterated their belief that the prowler car system put into operation in recent months had more than justified its existence and was one of the best and most efficient means of crime prevention and detection in use. Lucien Barnabe, 642 St. Patrick street, was among the youths held last night but he was not charged, as he entered the car after it had been stolen.
