This is insane. I want my apt. to look like this one in Seattle, WA that's available to rent by the hour on Gigster. It's $75hr. and the minimum time that you can rent it for is 4hrs. You gotta see this. (At the end I'll show you an apt. that sold in this 1922 building for only $285k + $491mo. HOA.)
The lobby- it's just a regular apt. building and real people live here.
See? Nothing special. And, here we are at apt. #201.
Open the door.
Step into the foyer of a whole 'nother world.
Proceed to what I think is the living room.
Okay, they rent it out hourly for photoshoots, but does somebody live here full time? I see a washing machine. It's just a small apt. with a bedsitting room.
Let's proceed down the hall to the kitchen.
I wonder who spackled the top cabinets.
Oooh, love the red sink. Somebody must live here- look at the spices and stuff still out on the counter.
Look at the bedroom/living room. I'm beginning to think that this look may be easier to achieve than it seems. It's basically rope lights and faux trees.
Well, I have a decorating goal, now.
The bath is just a regular 3pc.
So, this is the apt. one floor below that has basically a similar layout. I'm so fascinated.
Interesting.
Here's the bed/sitting room combo.
The newly renovated kitchen.
And, the updated bath.

im not surprised that the owner of the house we're buying is still renting it out as an airbnb but I am mad that he's still doing it post-inspection. i'm gonna be such a stickler during this final walkthrough
#i mean like come on#we're having to wait to do the walkthrough cause there are people in the house right now doing airbnb#otherwise we could just... do it now. the paperwork is done. give me my house.#at least it's not gonna be short term rental anymore. its gonna be a lived in house owned by the occupants. as it should be

British Columbia’s minister of housing says he’s shocked and frustrated by an attempt to recruit people to take part in what he calls a fraud to get around new rules about short-term rentals. Ravi Kahlon shared a screenshot on social media showing a Vancouver-based rental management company offering $500 to people willing to change the address on their driver’s licence to match an address it selects, then apply for an Airbnb approval. That’s to skirt new rules coming next year that would allow people to offer short-term accommodation only if it’s at their principal residence. Kahlon says anyone considering the offer needs to understand that the scheme is illegal, and those taking part would find themselves in “a lot of trouble for really no gain.”

Hunger games simulator but it's just Kross aus
OH MY GOD you’re so right. hang on
#i ran out of aus and had to get kind of obscure so death’s doorstep and sondertale and like. dogfight and doomsday are there#also this got me thinking about like. legitimate hunger games with the kross aus so i’m gonna talk about that for a bit#excluding forces of nature and fear the forest i think the guys that have the best chance of winning are#the proximity guys. both of them#chains and rings#and *maybe* rental suits killer. both of them and their chances would be heightened if they worked together#my reasoning for proximity is just. think about it#they’ve basically been living the hunger games the whole time#they absolutely have the survival skills. and they’re bonded like shelter dogs so they’d definitely end up working together#chains and rings would be good at fighting i think. so at the start they’d just go ham and wreck people’s shit#but i doubt they’d have the survival skills for it#they fight in a controlled area and they’ve never needed to scavenge for resources like the aka guys have#so they could get places in terms of conflict but i doubt they’d be able to sustain themselves super long#but i dunno they still have a chance#and for rental suits i definitely think killer could go places#like. he already kinda scavenges for stuff. he’s had to fend for himself for the most part. he knows to get stuff. y’know what i mean#i’m doing a trash job of explaining it but like. you know#and if he and cross decided to like actually commit and work together they’d have more of a chance#cause cross is better with like. strategy and like. medical attention#so if killer did the fighting and cross was methodical about stuff like what could be safe to eat and first aid#they might kinda have a chance#i don’t think they have like. the strong relationship aka kross would have and they’re probably not that physically strong#cause they live generally normal modern lives#so i don’t think they’d win. but they could get somewhere#ANYWAY final thoughts i think aka cross and killer might win in those circumstances. out of the main aus anyway#answering asks#denieatsart asks#deni!!

ughhh I see we've hit the perennial 'but what if I did do a postdoc 🤔 ' period of wishful thinking
#i do miss a lot of things about academia#but fundamentally I don't want to go back to short-term rentals ever ever again#so i will remain strong#(also I'm sure that the higher up i got the more things i *wouldn't* enjoy.#what i *actually* want is to be paid a living wage to pursue all my disparate interests and hear about other people's#and - crucially - not spend five days a week on something i find mind-rottingly boring)

i just booked to view two flats (to buy) (i'm probably not going to buy them) (i would only be co-buying them even if i did bc i can't afford a mortgage) (they're in a good location though it would be way nearer to useful things even if there's still no bus) and they asked me no questions beyond contact details when i called them about a viewing. is that normal. shouldn't they have tried to check i'm serious. i had all my answers prepared re: the finances and they didn't care
#essentially my parents had a flat but they hate being a landlord so they've sold it (subject to contract)#and in terms of what to do with the money etc at their age it makes more sense to co-buy somewhere manageable and accessible with me#and then in future if they get old and decrepit and i want to move north (and particularly if there's only one of them tho i hate that idea#they can live in the smaller accessible house/flat instead of their larger and less manageable house#so i wouldn't be tied to it but also in the meantime only have to contribute like 30k ('only') which is <3 years' rent#since my current house is 950/mo and smaller than the flats we're looking at#the rental market here is so awful and my accessibility needs are increasing so buying somewhere is beginning to look like my only option#bc i can't make changes to my rented house to make it wheelchair accessible (it has a FUCKING SPIRAL STAIRCASE)#so we're looking at ground-floor flats without carpet and i could get a ramp for the front doorstep and stuff#essentially future-proofing for my disabilities is also future-proofing for my parents getting old#the only thing i don't like about these flats is that they don't have a garden#they've got communal gardens which is something. but still nowhere private to hang your pants to dry

i bought a used wheelchair off ebay and it's supposed to arrive on monday and tbh im so excited !! ik it's gonna take awhile to build up more arm strength but im so much wagging my tail at the idea of being able to do short lil mental health walks with it
#borbtalks#im also in the process of getting a wheelchair through insurance but alas#it takes a lot of time#my dme company's tracker page is like 'yeah boss we're still collecting all your medical documentation. it's gonna take us til october.'#plus adding time for submitting to insurance + any appeals + and then for the company to actually build the chair...#originally they estimated i would get my chair approx sept-oct. with a lil delay i caused i thought it would be nov#but besties im uhh slightly worried that this chair isn't gonna get to me until the holidays 😅#anyway. buying a used chair off ebay seems like an even greater decision#not only for having a backup chair#but also for having a chair asap#(dme company didn't have any loaners + they directed me to a rental company that just does hospital style chairs...#... and it's bad to use hospital style chairs long term bc their wheel axle is too far back + will fuck up ur shoulders)

I've got a very unusual opportunity to present to you today. This is a recently remodeled 1965 6-Plex, Units 1-6, in Ocean Shores, WA. It's a turn-key short term rental business and you get the whole complex of 9bds, 6ba for $1,399,950. The fun, themed bedrooms aren't exactly for families, if you get my drift.
I'm a little confused though. Anyway, the locals supposedly call the town of Ocean Shores, "Open Sores," b/c the tourists leave so much trash on an otherwise beautiful stretch of shoreline, that you’re bound to cut your foot on something.
As usual, the photos are all jumbled, so it's unclear. This, however, is clearly an Egyptian-themed unit. Also, the town gets some Furry and Swingers conventions (I think that furry refers to the people that wear outfits that look like cute stuffed animals). The nearby town of Westport is host to more of these conventions, however.
It appears that the actual bedrooms are in the A-Frame sections.
I don't know what the spiral stairs lead to. It looks like the units have basements. Anyway, this one looks like a castle theme.
Every castle needs a sex dungeon and this one looks like it has 2 bedrooms. No, they don't show them.
They show the bath for this unit. So, they have small standard 3pc. baths.
And, this is the Viking themed unit. The table and benches in the dining area look like a Viking ship.
This looks like a larger unit with a desk and small sitting room.
The Viking bedroom.
There's a center court where the renters can socialize.
They even have a couple of grills.
This is a play area for family fun. I don't think that this corner property is for the short term renters.
There are at least 2 units that have decks on the back, and I'm thinking that either the owner lives in one, or there are 2 long-term rentals.
It looks like a very commercial area. There's the convention center on the left where the swingers must meet.

Changes could be coming to Winnipeg’s short-term rental regulations after city council voted to bring in new rules earlier this year.
A new report before the city’s property and development committee is recommending amendments to the city’s zoning bylaws. These changes would establish a framework for regulating short-term rentals, including establishing them as a land use under certain zoning districts.
Under the new amendments, bed and breakfasts would be included under the designation. These businesses are currently categorized as home-based businesses.
The report also states that short-term rentals will be licensed and enforced through the community safety business licensing bylaw.

Problem 1: my dumbass friends decided to get married and have three different wedding events on three different days on LABOUR DAY WEEKEND. Alexa, kill these clowns.
Problem 2: almost every member of the wedding party is people who DO NOT live in their city but DO all know each other. except me (I also don’t live in their city but EYE don’t know any of these people).
“Solution” 1: the entire wedding party is either crashing together in an Airbnb or staying with the bride and groom.
Solution 2: rather than say ‘fuck you and perhaps die’ to the rest of the wedding party and get a hotel room on my own for three (3) nights [expensive, I don’t like hotels, someone would have to watch the cat] I went to Amtrak, booked three (3) round trip tickets from NY to [this nearby eastern seaboard city]. 185$ total.
Solution 3: take Tuesday off because I have the PTO at work and these fucks are eating up my entire long weekend with their wedding. Oh perhaps I will go to the Met
#I’m particularly salty about this because I can’t bring a date but mainly because I truly deeply madly hate weddings#I’m not gonna find a hotel in a big city for under 150 a night so this is a steal#bride was like I know this short term rental apartment that’s 110/night and has a kitchenette!#you know what else has a kitchen? my apartment. leave me alone#Egg solves problems
